The first things I'd purchase are a kitchen scale, some measuring cups and measuring spoons.
You'll also need plastic containers in different sizes - it helps sort out your food in the correct serving size.
You'll also need a good non-stick frying pan as well as a saucepan. This way you'll only need to use 1 or 2 sprays from a non-stick spray.
It may seem silly to say it, but a good kitchen knife and chopping board are essential to deal with all those freggies!
As far as gadgets go, I have a hand-held blender (love it!), juicer/smoothie maker, steamer, George Foreman grill and a kitchen robot that mixes, grates and chops.
I have quite a few herbs and spices I use on a regular basis: thyme, oregano, Herbes de Provence, cumin, chili powder, cinnamon, ginger to name but a few.
I also always have garlic and use it a lot in my cooking. Lemon are also good to have to season your food or use a squeeze to flavour water.
