Thanks again for sharing, Sue! The day I started (and a day or two before) my personal trainer certification course, I had put myself on bed rest until it was time to go as I had injured my ankle so badly. I'd been dealing with this ankle for most of my life and had at one time thought I recovered enough to run from one street lamp post to the next and felt so good, I ran to the next THREE before realizing that I had run too far. Another two-week setback. I'd been learning to take Baby Steps the hard way, but now I may have learned my lesson! Finally making some progress! (^_^)

I'm tracking every day, now.
I think my biggest challenge is getting the exercise in. Some days are really harder than others. I have to really push myself to just do that five minutes on the rebounder. Other days I can add other exercises. I want to get back to walking two miles a day. Right now, I haven't been around the block in three years.

Was directed to a very helpful blog today. If any of you have a lot of weight to lose or have some physical challenges, as I do, then you might also find it helpful and very practical.

Have a great day!

I have a very busy week ahead but I have a few minutes now before my ride gets here and instead of just twiddling my thumbs while I wait, I'm going to go and do some of my strength training exercises! (^_^) Even if I get no more done today, some is better than none!

eta: I got 14 sets, 7 x 2 done plus stretching! Woohoo! and the garbage is now put out and a healthy lunch ready to go - fruit, lettuce salad, herbal tea, yogurt... (^_^)

journaling online or on hard copy paper?

I've been homeschooling my children for the last 14 years and part of our educational journey has included some fun journaling - markers and doodle picture or even painted pictures have made it even more fun! I've done my own along with the kids - I really do enjoy it. Now, my "journaling" is searching back on fb or here to see what I've posted! LOL

Back to work, juggling two jobs, sometimes a third job, on call. I need to Baby Step my way through to keep up and even try to get enough sleep in between! Plus still home-schooling my son, so I need to be sure he keeps up. Our first report cards are due this month! I also need to be sure to eat as healthy as possible to be sure to have the strength needed to do all of this.

I got cut from training for one company but another company now wants to train me. I came back home, last Friday and now I'm headed back to Winnipeg, this Sunday and there until next Friday night.

I need to recover from the first three weeks of training.

I need my house to recover from my three weeks of being away.

I need to be ready for the next round.

In case that's not enough, I'm being offered two jobs, one to work around the other and they'd like to train me for four different positions - cook, dietician, dietary aide and bus driver. Of course! Awesome opportunities, but I'm going to have to make sure I'm up to the challenges ahead! (^_^) Baby Stepping all the way looks like the only way!

it's almost 5 am and I've been up for about 3 1/2 hrs and now my work out and orange juice are not so effective in keeping me going. Off to walk another mile or so. Hmmm, wondering if I can take a short nap before 8am cab arrival and still be able to nap this afternoon so that I can do my all night driving tonight. Choices, choices. I do know we're doing at least two night shifts in a row, but don't know more than that. :p

has been having a difficult time with learning to drive the bus up to some of the highest standards on the continent. I have been given another chance and the past two days have been so much better, but whether or not I will make the cut is still difficult to say. Tomorrow is a new day and so tonight, I'll say a prayer and get some sleep and start fresh. :-)

is learning to find balance between low blood sugar crash and sugar-induced migraine!

next up is learning to randomly switch from day shift to night shift. I'm a morning person. I went to bed last night about 9 (got home from work at 8, so an hour to unwind, etc), slept until about 3:00 am, will give myself a busy morning and hopefully have a good nap this afternoon. Start driving coach bus at around 8pm, perhaps 10 to 12 hour drive - hopefully taking good turns with other student and maybe even the instructor. This is our first trip like this, at night, in a standard-transmission bus, longest drive, so far. We've only been driving standards for two days! I think return trip is tomorrow night. PLEASE PRAY!!! :-D

Now life gets tricky!

It's Payday, which means I can get some groceries! That should be liberating, right? Not so much. I need to buy food that travels well as we're gone for an average of about 11 hrs per day with no scheduled lunch or snack breaks. Moments do come and go throughout the day which allow for a quick snack. With such a demanding schedule and the fact that I'm learning to drive a 54' bus, I NEED to try to try to stay away from foods that can cause allergic reactions, which for me are killer migraines. The stress level is already high enough that I don't need to add dietary stress.

SOOOO, what are these foods that I can eat? LOL Brown rice or brown rice pasta, some cooked vegetables, sour dough spelt bread ( have no idea of where to buy any around here, but will check the yellow pages to see if there's any where near here - walking everywhere that I'm not driving or riding a bus at the company's expense), almonds and almond butter, eggs, plain yogurt, cooked tomatoes, turkey, water. Running out of options.

NO fruit, NO starchy veggies, including root veggies, NO onions, NO mushrooms, NO soy, NO dairy except for previously mentioned yogurt, NO chocolate, NO sugar, NO vinegar, NO alcohol, NO yeast, NO wheat, NO meat other than turkey...... when I first saw the list, I just read "NO FOOD" and nearly cried.

The next dilemma is that I'm living in a motel for five more weeks. I have a bar fridge with the very tiny freezer compartment that's half full of un-defrosted ice, and a microwave.

Obviously something has to give. I'll have to make some compromises in my food choices. The big problem is that shopping with these food allergies is like shopping with a ticking time bomb in hand. Buying foods on my yes list buys me mintues (or days) and buying foods on my no list takes migraine-free time away from me. If I could find a place to buy sour dough spelt bread and almond butter, I can live quite happily on that for some time. The biggest trick with it then would be the fact that it must be kept frozen and it won't fit in my freezer unless perhaps I get some zipper sandwhich bags and portion the whole loaf out. (thinking on the keyboard is sometimes quite beneficial!)

ACK! Thankfully, I don't start work today until 12 noon. Cab is coming at 11:15. We're giving them extra time as the cabbie had us late, yesterday. :-( I only had less than 4 hrs sleep, so I will need to try to get some rest before we leave. I'm only going to have so much time to chase down my groceries before Sunday and health food stores may not even be open on Sundays. :-(

I'll have to look for "instant" brown rice or a way to microwave it or something. The package I do have doesn't say any thing about being microwaveable. Rice and some veggies and perhaps a bit of olive oil might be ok. Then I need a way to package it. LOL I have a couple of small containers and some dish soap - I might try to wash my dishes in the hand sink. (not crazy about that idea, but might be better than nothing.)

Obviously I have my work cut out for me. :p

Today I found the sewing needle! It was here on the desk that my laptop is on! LOL :p

I am leaving tomorrow for a month for training for my new job. I have had so many things to take care of before leaving that I've been busy, getting stuff done, walking miles and miles every day but...

I don't get any of it posted. While I'm gone, my family duties will be less (no dishes to wash! and I can even send my laundry home for washing if I want to! LOL) but I will be intensely busy. My diet will be quite simple, so I should be able to track it, as long as I don't come back to my room every night and just pass out from exhaustion. (though I can see the benefit of doing that, too!)

I'm taking my laptop so I'll have Sparking to do, plus some music to work on (I play bagpipes), might take some reading and some cross stitch or something, etc, etc, etc.

ACK! I need to find a sewing needle! I am making some cross stitch thank you gifts, need to finish one or two today and the last I remember having a needle was sticking through my fleece vest. Did I wash it? lose it? is it at risk of being a danger to someone? :-( I've been looking for it, looking for one to use for now and can't find any! The good news is, I'm getting lots of other things sorted, found, unpacked, etc. Still some lemonade in this lemon of a situation. Sometimes, I drive myself crazy! :p

another posting issue - one of my Baby Steps goals is to eat more veggies. I've been doing a lot of oven roasted vegetables, lately and they're sooo yummy, but I keep forgetting to post what I've eaten. The good news is I do seem to be losing weight! I also don't own a scale.

my life is still a little in hiatus, so my biggest hang up is still just posting here on Spark People. I'm walking an average of ten miles per day. If I'd claim my points, I'd be doing really well! I've had some technical issues, too, so that's slowed me down here a lot. Hopefully getting those all sorted out, now!

Let's get Stepping! :-D
