Hello Everyone - it is so good to be back on this site and catch up on all your lives. It has been a busy week our quilt show was a great success and I am very tired. I have posted pictures of my two quilts on my spark page for you to check out - They are both panel quilts.

I am so looking forward to the fall challenge - I have to get busy and read up on that as I don't know when it starts. I noticed that someone commented that it was being postponed for a bit.

Anyway I am going to say "Good Night for now" and will chat more as I get caught up on my sleep. Have a happy, healthy and enjoyable week! - Pat emoticon

emoticon emoticon emoticon All three kitties present & accounted for. Miss Peanut appeared on the porch this morning, cleaned up two bowls of food & slept all day. DH picked up a deluxe cat tower today from some friends who are downsizing - quite the construction - over 5 feet of carpeted platforms, columns and hidey holes. Hopefully, it will suit their majesties!

ush - I'm very sensitive to touch and I find bee stings to be a horrendous pain - probably why I fear them so much, that and the fact that they seem to be drawn to me.

emoticon emoticon Two cats came back. Mr. Brian appeared on the step at suppertime - lots of eating & purring - finally got him topped up and settled down. I think they both are going to be contented house cats for awhile. Miss Peanut is still AWOL, but this is her pattern - she's been gone before for over a week. I think she has a second family somewhere.
Another week till the next 5% challenge. I find I'm falling to a "take a break" mindset & have been making a few poor choices as a result. Still have a diet mentality I guess, even after all these years on SP. Very insidious.
Rainy day today - busy with phone calls, computer work & cleaning the kitchen floor. DH away all day helping a friend bring in his cattle from various summer pastures. All went well.

charlotte.. glad Mr. Mike came back.. hope the other two follow soon

Lin... even after being stung twice, I don't have any fear of them.... just thinking I need to be a bit more cautious.... it hurts when they sting but it settles down after a while and it's not intolerable... I worry more about developing an allergy which I've been told can happen after one has been stung several times....
I'm glad things went well for the time being with your sister and brother in law and hope things continue to go well...

Pat.. I would love to see pics of your quilts if you have them... post them on your page...

I think it's awesome to be able to run even half a marathon never mind running the entire thing and then winning!

Hope everyone has a wonderful evening...

Usi - 2 stings in a month - ykes. I'm terrified of the darn things. I hope the antibiotics cleared up the streaks - not nice!

Speaking of bees and hornets - I learned today that I can still run - not fast and not far but in a pinch - I was going to our neighbourhood pharmacy to get my shopping bag of prescriptions, walking along slowly with my cane so I wouldn't get out of breath, and hornet lands on my upper arm and proceeds to walk around. OMG I hate these things. I brushed him off as my DH would do but he dive bombed me 3 times and I hightailed it out of there. I had to stay in the pharmacy for awhile to get my breath back and tonight I'm paying for my little adventure.,

It was beautiful here today too - about 21/72 - and I got some more of my plants ready for the spring sale. It takes me about an hour and a half to accomplish what I used to in about a half an hour but I definitely made progress potting up 14 plants and thinning out some of my dwarf irises and replanting them. Thank heavens for wheel barrows so I don't have to carry stuff and cushions for kneeling and sitting on my butt while I work, lol. I'm worn out tonight after aquafit this am, the running from the hornet, and the gardening. I want to do my housework tomorrow and then I can rest all weekend as we are going to Belleville to my DHs military association annual reunion. We'll have Sat to shop or go in the hotel pool or just sit and read, and a dinner in the evening (I usually can't eat most of what's served and go hungry.) There is a store I love to go to when in Belleville - A Taste of Country - everything from baked goods, frozen foods, and giftware. Sun morning I can swim (by that I mean do some exercises) while he has his annual meeting and then we'll all head up to the Armouries and hold a memorial service at the Cenotaph there. Then home to our kitty cat.

I was hoping to hear more about my sister and her husband's progress after yesterdays very successful kidney transplants but they say no news is good news. We aren't allowed to visit so have to wait for text messages and such when she is able.

Have a good weekend and let's hope I can find low carb, low sodium foods while having to eat out all weekend, ya like that's gonna be possible! I'm heading into another session of heart failure and this should speed things up. I'll just have to try and be careful.

Hi all... hope everyone is having a good week so far...
Pat... good luck with the quilt show
Donna ... glad you enjoyed the wedding....

Our nephew's wedding was lovely with some "unplanned" moments adding laughter and good memories...
it started off rainy but turned sunny just before the ceremony so we were able to hold it outside... however.. it was windy enough to spill the two columns over that were holding large vases of flowers... lol.. they tried staking them down but didn't work and at one point, my husband was standing spread eagle between the two columns trying to hold them upright until the ceremony starts... which started late... my mother in law goodnaturedly complaining about the late start (so far it was only 5 min late) and freezing our petunias off ...we were hungry of course as the wedding was supposed to be at 4:30 and I think it finally started just shortly before 5pm.... by the time it was done... everyone was starving.... the poor girls serving hor d oerves couldn't get past the front door of the tent...

trying to resist the amazing appetizers... lamb chops ... omg they were good but somehow I managed to restrain myself to having only one... and one slider... and one mushroom packet... and one chicken on a stick thingie... lol... and then finally! dinner.... sigh...

thank goodness for heaters ....lol... the floor of course was crooked and oh my goodness... my mother in law and I were just waiting for everyone to get drunk so we could watch them roll around the floor trying to keep upright... in fact.. a few were having trouble staying upright even before they'd had drinks... lol lol... I love my mother in law's sense of humour.. she always has me laughing hard enough to worry about peeing myself...

and then of course breakfast with everyone the next day at the hotel's restaurant... and back to reality the next morning as I realize I gained a few pounds!... lol.. luckily it was temporary and I lost two by today.. so in the end gained only one... thank goodness....
and in the afternoon to add injury to the insult of gaining weight?

I got stung by a bee or wasp or something again while gardening.. omg... haven't been stung in 25 yrs and then get stung twice in the last month.... lol... must be something in the air.. this time however I ended up going to the walk in clinic as the welt was getting bigger and bigger and there are red streaks running down (up?) the inside of my arm... doc gave me some antibiotics and antihistamines today and should be better in a few days....

okay I'm rambling now and could go on and on but will cut it short here... lol...

have a wonderful evening and a great week ladies...

LIN..I hope all goes well this week

emoticon

Hoping you have a great turnout at your quilt show, Pat. Such artistry goes into them - will we see any photos of your contributions?
Busy day trying to catch up on church work. The building inspector says we can start using the main floor again, as most of the foundation repairs etc. are done & he's pretty sure the building won't fall down around our ears! So Sunday service will be back "home" altho we have had fun holding the services in the Curling Club lounge, the cemetery chapel and the community hall since early August. Now to get the word out.
Haven't seen hide nor hair of my kitties for nearly 2 days. They're around, but not interested or hungry enough to come in the house. Too many outdoor attractions, I guess.

Hi Everyone - yes I am still alive and kicking. I made it through another challenge. I did not lose all the weight that I had hoped to lose but once again I came down a little further than when I started. I am looking forward to the next challenge - I might eventually reach my goal.

I am not going to be on here long but I did want to say "hi" to all of you. I am getting ready for our Quilt Guild's Quilt show this weekend. My friend and I are in charge of the Tea room so I have lots to do to get ready for that. I have three quilts and one quilt bag to display at this show. I only had one small quilt 2 years ago when we had our show so I am excited to have a little more to display.

So I am going to say goodnight - I don't think I will be checking in before this week is over so I hope everyone has a great week. I will try and get caught up with you all next week. - Pat emoticon emoticon

Welcome back home, Donna. Glad to hear the wedding & visiting went well.
Another beautiful fall day here - all the trees & shrubs are changing rapidly - this will be the best week for the autumn colour tour probably. Spent the morning doing errands, grocery shopping, getting a haircut. Hope to get outside for awhile later - lots of yard cleanup to do. All exercise - a good thing. emoticon emoticon

emoticon SP doesn't seem to have an emoticon of an apple, so here's a pumpkin which is also found on u-pick farms this time of year. Picking either one & enjoying all the other attractions is a super way to enjoy a crisp autumn day. The closest thing we have nearby is a corn maze which is also very popular. The feed corn and soybean harvest is in full swing - the last crops to be harvested. Then all the farmers take the winter off... NOT!
Found a new (to me) apple variety called "Sweetie" - anyone heard of it? Tasted great.
Sunday was a musical day - sang a solo emoticon at a special church service welcoming our new minister & family - it went well, especially since I remembered to breathe in all the right places. That evening was my dinner theatre choir's regular practice - so am just about "warbled" out. emoticon

Today was a gorgeous day for apple picking..the little ones had fun on the hay rides, bouncing air castles, toddler train rides and then eating apple fritters, candied apples, home made apple juice.....but now I have a bushel of mixed apples...all varieties...red & golden delicious, gala, empire, jonagolds, macintosh.....so I'll be busy next week making apple crisp, apple coffee cakes, apple muffins, applesauce (for my mom), etc.....and thanks Lyn for that tip on adding butterscotch topping...I've made them in the micro wave with splenda sprinkled on top but your topping sounds sooo yummmmy!

Hope everyone had a great weekend.....take care.

Lynchd - good thing you didn't have trouble on the highway as you say! Nails and screws can sure play havoc with tires.,

Stephanie - thanks will do. My latest apple recipe may be too low cal but here it is - slice up apples into fairly small pieces and place in a custard cup or something that can go in the microwave. Sprinkle sugar replacement (I use Steevia from a natural plant source) and cinnamon. Bake in the microwave until soft, gooey and tender. I miss the oatmeal topping of a crisp but when I'm seriously working on my weight, it is very satisfying for my sweet tooth and my love of apples. The only calories are the apple itself. I was bad one night and put a tsp of butterscotch topping sauce on it - it was even better but of course, more calories, lol.

MM - yes - I go to Sunnybrook Hospital 24 and 25 Oct to have 2 procedures done. If they discover they can fix the leaking valve, I'll go on a waiting list for the main procedure to close it up with a clip - they rely on donations to pay for it hence the waiting list - it costs $36,000.

Honouraria - don't worry about the stories about the gowns, I know I looked forward to hearing how you were progressing and enjoyed each time you wrote about them. Good for you to finish the repairs they way you have! Do you have another project of some kind in mind? I bet you are a lot better than I am at altering your clothes as you lose weight, lol. My mother would probably shudder if she saw some of them, lol.

My DH starts one of his hockey leagues (he's in 3) tomorrow night. Sat. we will be working the Militaria Show put on by his Regimental Association. He'll be on the floor making sure the sellers have everything they need and I'll be in the canteen of sorts. We have an annual Ball Team party to go to in the evening if we aren't too tired. Sun will be taken up with laundry and grocery shopping which around here involves more time than the shopping to wash, weigh, measure, package and store everything we get - most of it in single serving sizes. Hmm, better get some laundry done tomorrow. I have a feeling I'm going to be whipped long before the end of this weekend so I'll have to pace myself.

Dull, cool and threatening rain all day - a good one to spend indoors. Spent some time down at the church assembling little prizes for the Fish Pond we're running at the community fall festival on Sat. The Rec Centre puts on a free pancake breakfast, all the clubs & home based businesses have info/registration tables, games & entertainment for the kids & generally a lot of coffee drinking & socializing. Always a fun morning. The rest of today hasn't been as productive as I'd hoped however, always tomorrow.
Ushi was wondering about more flavourful chicken broth. I make my own stock by simmering a roasted chicken carcass in enough water to cover & adding chunks of celery, carrot & onion. The longer it simmers the better it gets, & the wonderful smell drives the cats crazy for miles around. Adding the pan drippings (fat skimmed off) ups the flavour too. After a couple hours, I strain it, cool it & skim off the fat that rises to the top, & if not making soup right away, freeze it in 2-4 cup portions. emoticon
emoticon Honouria. You're well qualified now to open up a clothing conservation repair studio - but no more choir gowns for awhile, I suspect. I sure admire your tenacity.
Donna - hope you had fun at the wedding.
Hope everyone reads Anjay's latest blog on eating according to the KISS principle. Very interesting. Don't be surprised if we all turn up at your doorstep for dinner, Anjay.
Hi to Judith, Heather & Dana. emoticon
Pat - how are you doing on the last week of the 5% challenge? I'm being very naughty & not tracking sodium - don't add salt to anything anyway & don't eat processed food - still, it can be surprising how much a person does get.
Lin - hope you got the dates for your procedure settled. Your positive outlook is so inspiring.
Stephanie, Florence & all the Canadian crew - let's all get outdoors this w/e & enjoy - fall is such a beautiful season. emoticon emoticon

Well hello....just to update everyone - yet again.
Are you ready for this???? They are now saying the gowns will not be ready until Tuesday! See, didn't I mention chickens and hatching? I had this funny feeling.

I actually did it. After I got that phone call I sat down at the machine and got them all done. It wasn't easy. It was hard. It looks great on the outside, and not too too bad inside either. Tomorrow I will need to iron them and take them to the church...but that's me done with this job. WHAT a nerve wracking experience. Must be why I didn't sleep last night.

Sorry to ramble. Thanks for putting up with my diatribes.

Honouria - can't say I blame you for not wanting to go back to that Home Group - doesn't sound too inviting.

It sounds like you do fantastic things with that sewing machine of yours. You laughed when I told you I wasn't always matching thread colours with clothing colours in some of my alterations. I got one outfit all done and looked closely at it and I had big long (long for a seam) stitches more suitable for basting, lol and had to redo it. Another one I had the stitch way way too short and tight. I was glad the thread colour didn't match the material so good - I was able to see what I had to rip out. I can never make it out perfectly but it meant I didn't have any, or as many, pulls pulling on the threads in the cloth rather than the seam, lol. I hope your gowns are in in time and you don't have an awful drive.

Ok - hello all.
Sheesh. Well, to bring you up to date. I have been doing piles of research because you can't really screw up on this job. I have had to learn about interfacing and sewing concealed French seams. Had to drive to get the special interfacing, and then use my artistry to cut out the shapes and iron them on because the fabric is thin and stressed. And it is tough because of the location of the rips (underarms!)

So, got those all cut out and ironed on and called the gown folks today. Would you believe that it looks like the gowns are done and in final production, and that they will be finished before the end of the week?????? This of course means I have to study the map and do city driving (I HATE CITY DRIVING! Urgh!) Please God let the sun be shining. It's a 2 hour drive there.

Meanwhile - I am one person who doesn't count chickens before they hatch. I have my sewing machine all set up and I did a trial on scrap poly satin just to be sure the thread-tension etc. work, and everything is a go. If the gowns DON'T get done for any reason, I just might be able to do this.

Oh, and just to give a status report - I took a huge risk joining a "home group" this season, which was a big step out for reserved introverted me. Well - it's just supposed to be a study right? Two women broke down sobbing (one says she does this all the time), one had an attitude and looked like the last place she wanted to be was there, and one started making derogatory remarks. Um...I made it through the meeting and you better believe I am not going back. Hey, I was just trying to find some socable buds. Sheesh. Maybe I'd have better luck with hobby focused interest groups.

Choir tonight. It is going to be REALLY interesting to see what happens between now and Sunday, and Sunday. :o)

thanks everyone for the warm thoughts. I just got an e-mail from Sunnybrook Hospital a few minutes ago. My first 2 procedures are booked for Thurs., 24 Oct at 7 am and Fri., 25 Oct at 10:30 a.m. They are still trying to set up an appt. with the surgeon for one of those days and I wrote back and said since it hasnít been booked yet, can they try for the Thurs. As Murphyís Law would have it, weíve paid for Paulís Horshoe Club Banquet on the Fri. night and if we can get back in time, if Iím not up to it, he could at least go. On the Sat. weíve also paid to go to the Trenton Air Museum for his Regimentís 150th Birthday Dinner and Ball. I will be ok for that one Ė just a sore throat they say.

I better get a move on here Ė Iíve got a seminar at the Y my Nurse arranged for me to go to from 2-4. Itís on Living with Congestive Heart Failure and is being run by the dietician from my Nurseís Clinic. The dietician is also a Personal Trainer so I'm hoping it's about diet and exercise.

Busy , newsy group as usual. First of all Lin, you have so much on your plate right now. You are absolutely amazing how you handle this with such a great attitude.de. I sincerely hope it all works out for you and that they can alleviate your problems. I know this is all very scary but we are here for you.
I have an eye appointment today, going to the gym this morning and then have to pack for our out of town wedding. We are leaving tomorrow morning so don't know how much I will be on in the next few days. It is the end of the challenge and I know this has not been the best for me. Yesterday before our seminar DH and I went our for lunch.....A and W.....you know whose choice that was!!!!! All that sodium!!! He quote to me was it is not going to kill you you know. Well he is right and it has been a very long time since I had a burger that was not homemade. Had to admit it tasted pretty good!!! And I am still here to tell the tale.

Lin, I sent you an email. I'm going to continue to pray you are a candidate for the procedure.

It's chilly again this morning and for some reason, while it was temperature wise, warmer than yesterday morning by a degree or two, it felt colder. The breeze on the train platform likely helped with that... brrrrrrrr

It's a workout day today ...am getting a bit frustrated with the up and down trend of my weight.. down one day up the next ... it would be really nice if it would just stay stable .. even if I don't lose anything ... guess that's asking a bit much? ...

Hope everyone has a wonderful day today... the sun is shining here and while it's chilly, it's a beautiful day.

Ush - Saw my own Cardiologist today and he did already have a report from Sunnybrook Hospital. He reviewed what was covered a week ago, they did another EKG and blood pressure and stuff and he wants to see me again as soon as I get a date for the procedures to come. In the Hospital report, he said they would try to set them up in the next few weeks so I don't expect to hear from them for a couple of weeks now. My Cardiologist did caution that if I'm not a candidate for the clip to be put in the valve that I may have to consider open heart surgery after all and weigh the pros and cons of which is best - the danger with my heart condition or getting worse and worse without. He was able to actually hear the regurgitation/leak today with his stethoscope. He's pleased with my weight loss and wants me to continue but is going to have my nurse practitioner check my potassium levels monthly while I'm losing the weight. He didn't say much about the change in the meds he had prescribed that were changed by the Kidney specialist. I go back to that specialist on the 11th of Oct and we are hoping he'll give the ok for one of the meds I'm to stay off of so I can kick the heart failures when they occur.

Hi Everyone

It seems I have missed out on a lot these last few days! First of all welcome to Heather and Dana - all the best as you work toward your weight loss goals. This is a good group to be part of.

Belated emoticon to Donna - I hope your day was extra special.

Charlotte, Donna, Stephanie, Gini all the best in your last week of the challenge. I gained pt. 2 lbs. this past week - it was enough to knock me off the Last Fire Cracker Standing list. At least a lost some weight again on this challenge - that is what counts. Maybe I get rid of the rest during the next challenge.

Yesterday when I walked to work it was 0 C - I had to wear a light coat - today I wore the coat but a sweater would have done. It is so much warmer this evening - I don't think it is going to get so cold tonight. Certainly can't get bored with all these ups/downs.

To everyone who is reading this post have a great evening and a wonderful Wednesday. - Pat emoticon

Welcome Heather and Dana.... this is a great group and it's awesome just being able to "drop in" when you have a moment to chat....
Stephanie...thank you... the migraines seems to have passed now knock wood.. took enough medication this morning to knock a horse out... lol... unfortunately it took every ounce of self discipline to keep moving and not fall asleep too..especially in rounds... lol lol...

I need a good recipe for chicken soup.... I make broth but for some reason mine always tastes watery.. I prefer home stock to store bought but have resorted to using store bought and adding chicken to make a stronger stock.... any ideas ladies?

Lin... let us know how things went at the cardiologist today...

It's cool here too.... 4 C when I left the house this morning... ouch! its warmed up a bit but was still nice to walk home from the train station (40 min brisk walk). It's not my work out day so I like to walk... get my hubby to drop me at the station in the morning.... I'm loving the cooler fall weather and hope it stays cool... time for oatmeal with cinnamon in the mornings and gingerbread spice tea.....

Honouria...how are the gowns coming along???

Hope everyone is having a wonderful day.. .I'm off to brush my teeth and get ready for bed..

Thanks formthembirthday wishes. Had a good day yesterday and dinner out tonight so all is good.

Hi All

I;m brand new to SP. just finished the 7 day Cabbage Soup Diet as an intro to healthy eating. finding it hard today to not devour everything in sight. being a control freak, i think tracking what i eat and how active i am and seeing it in front of me will really help me to reach my goal. i am really excited about this journey. having two teenage daughters, i really want to set a good example and being over weight, tired and irritable is just not working for me. wish me luck.

Hi Folks!
First time here - but used SP about 3 years ago. I work weird shifts as a restaurant manager so today is my Saturday!
Been cooking up a storm for dinner tonight, Funny how the challenge of making delicious healthier meals has fired up my creative side - I had moved away from cooking due to burnout from work.
So is everyone getting into the fall groove?
Cheers!

emoticon Happy Birthday from me too Donna.

Don't you hate those expiry dates on milk - I've found paying more and getting Truetaste or Natrel and it lasts way beyond the posted due date.

Minimoe - thanks for the soup thought.

I go to see my own Cardiologist here in Peterborough today - he probably hasn't received a report yet from my visit to Sunnybrook.

It's really cool here today - only about 6 so far, brrrr. It's supposed to get up to 16 but that's still too cool for my liking. We got a heavy frost last night,. I haven't yet been down to look at the veggie garden.

Soup making day at my house too, Stephanie...using up bits of frozen chicken broth and the "a little past their best" veggies; past its best - that's the theme of my day so far - the last carton of milk, best before date Sept. 19 - is sour emoticon so guess it's time to make biscuits & sour cream cookies, & give the rest to the barn cats. (They'll be in kittie heaven.) Time for a grocery run too this afternoon.

Lin - wish I could bring you some real chicken soup... some pretty serious stuff you're dealing with right now. Definitely sending lots of positive vibes your way. emoticon

emoticon from me too, Donna - a day late..altho I did try to send you a goodie yesterday, but the cyber gremlins were at work it seems. Hope you had a good celebration.

Pat - good luck on the final week of the 5% challenge. emoticon

Hope everyone else has a Sparkling week. emoticon

Morning ladies....at home today and already put a pot of soup on for the day......love the fall weather and having a simmering pot of soup on the stove.....my 6 grand kids will all be here for supper so that and a home made bread and a salad will be our supper tonight....

Yes Lin good luck with all your procedures and being nervous is understandable.....hope your wait isn't too long to have them done, please keep us posted when you can.....my dd goes to Toronto to see a cardiologist once a year because of a heart murmur she has (balance of the time she sees a local cardiologist).....it always makes me nervous until she and her dh get back with the results...so far its been OK but she still is young.

Donna.... emoticon you are doing so well with your weight.....the gym is a great workout.....

Anjay hope you get everything done during your busy day.....

Ush thanks for the anniversary wishes.....hope you are not in pain with migraines today...I love the fall weather but my appetite seems to increase the cooler it gets outdoors....

Honouria...glad to hear from you...hope your gown sewing project is near the end.....you have really done an awesome job on them......

Well better call my 92 yr old mom...she has been battling a persistent cough that doesn't seem to want to go away.......take care all.

Hi all, nice to,hear from you Anjay. Busy is good.
Today was a busy day for me too. Had a great workout at the gym then spent the afternoon chatting with friends and relatives calling with birthday wishes. Yikes another birthday. DH was not feeling great so we will be going out for supper tomorrow. That will be fun.
So have a good evening all!!!!!

thanks Anjay - wonder how long I'll have to wait for dates for the procedures to be done - the longer it is, the more nervous I will get.

My goodness Lin you sound busy!....
Happy anniversary Stephanie... that's wonderful....

The weather has cooled since the rain hit.. while I'm not a big fan of rain, I"m grateful it's cooled... the weather changes seem to produce migraines and while I love the fall and spring, it's usually somewhat uncomfortable..

I admire anyone who can sew Honoria but I can see why you are stressed... I hope you're able to get the gowns done in time...

Hope everyone has a wonderful day

Honouria - good to hear from you - too bad it wasn't better news. You are so stressed out. I bet no one else at the Church is even close to worrying the way you are over these gowns. Wouldn't you just like to slap those at the suppliers for bumping your order!! We'll be thinking of you and I hope it goes well for you.

Oh Anjays - my heart goes out to you! Mom has been gone 3 years now and Dad 3 and a 1/2. I only had a 2 1/2 hr drive to get up to see them but the less I could drive, the more stressful it got. I can't imagine being as far away as you are and handling it. One thing I was able to do that helped Mom tremendously was to get a phone plan that allowed me to call her every evening. Dad had to be put in the Veteran's wing of Sunnybrook Hospital about 3 years before he passed and it was the first they'd been separated in many years. Her hearing was bad and her sight and she had sciatica so travelling by bus or even taxi to see him in the hospital was a real chore for her - and she thought at first we would all expect her to go every day - we finally convinced her that wasn't necessary and with his stroke, Dad didn't know one way or the other. But, she felt she was anchored again with our nightly calls. I was always amazed at the number of things she did or talked about but forgot to tell me and I'd learn from one of my sisters. You'd think with a nightly call I'd be the one with the information, lol. I'll be thinking of you and your situation. emoticon

Happy Anniversary Stephanie!

It was bright and sunny here today in Peterborough - cool wind breeze at times though. We didn't get the predicted rain.

Not sure what the fall will hold for me healtwise so I won't be signing up for the fall challenge. I have committed though to redoing the Vitality Diet I did last spring/summer. I'd like to lose another 30 lbs. - would be nice before some of my procedures but I have no idea on dates for those so we'll see. Being on the diet, and my DH as well, I won't have need for making up casseroles and soups like I usually do in the fall.

I have a couple of single servings of some wishy washy stuff he can have that fit into the diet - personally, I don't like my foods mixed together. I love a good stew but not on a regular basis and I seldom eat soups or cook veggies in with my meat in a crockpot - I don't like beef flavoured carrots or onion flavoured potatoes, etc. Once a week though, I cook up a pork tenderloin or a roast of beef or chicken for us to have as luncheon meat. We can't have deli meats diet or no diet because of the sodium levels so we have to make our own up.

I hope everyone has a great week. I must check the calendar and see what's up. I know I go and get my hair done tomorrow (thank heavens!) Oh, poop - it's full of appointments! Tues. I see my own Cardiologist and my Chiropractor and have to go to the Police Station to pick up my Police Check so I can volunteer at my DGS's school. Wed. I have to go to a seminar at the Y put on by the Dietician associated with the clinic where my nurse practitioner is - she's doing a session on "Living with Heart Failure." Apparently she's also a personal trainer so I'm guessing it will be diet (no salt) and exercise (working out) according to your heart health. Thurs. I have a long appt. at the dentist prepping a cracked tooth for a cap and checking on the bridge she put in 2 weeks ago on the other side. Joy o Joy! Fri's free so far! On the weekend my DH and I will be working at his Regimental Association's Militaria Show and Sale at the Armouries (I man the canteen) from early am to mid to late afternoon and following that, if we aren't too tired, is the annual fall party for his ball team held at one of the guys houses that is a converted cottage in a wonderful setting. Then, it starts all over again.

We usually don't have much on on the weekends but this month and next seem to be full. We have 2 train shows (we built a model train layout 2 years ago); the Militaria show and ball party I mentioned; his annual Regimental Reunion which involves an overnight stay in Belleville with a dinner, meeting the next day and a ceremony at the cenotaph at their Armouries; and the 150th Birthday dinner and ball for the same Regiment. Unfortunately I still have a dress suitable that still fits me that I can wear to the ball - no excuse for a new one. With the new clothes I've had to buy and hope to buy in the future I'd rather wear what I have for now and get new when thinner still. My daughter and I were in a shop today advertising summer tops for 1/2 price. 1/2 price was still about $50 a top and the bras I saw were $94.00 each. I thought when I paid $50 that was bad! I guess I don't get out enough, lol.

Hello. I've been seriously busy. And now....wouldn't you know the new gowns haven't been made because somebody with a huge order bumped me.

This means that I have two gowns with SERIOUS underarm rips that I don't even know how to approach. It is complicated. I have to use my machine. There are four seams meeting, and the fabric is stressed. I have 3 days to do them and get them to the church before Sunday - when everyone needs to be wearing gowns. I am totally stressed. And google has zero tips for this. I checked.
bye for now,

Lin yes we are an ocean apart I in Canada, he in Scotland, I got the final prognosis from both his doctors, the Parkinson specialist and the ward doctor, it was not good, he has a diseased heart from his Parkinson's, they have given him a couple of years, if he responds to these new meds maybe a bit longer, but if he has another one of these spells he had last week, they will only try to restart his heart once. They restarted his heart twice in the ambulance last week. As I said not a good prognosis

I really am going to read one of her books.....Louise Penny......Just keep reminding me and one of these days I will remember.
Steph, congrats on the 41st wedding anniversary. It surely is one to celebrate.
Today i did my gym class then came home and made borscht soup for dinner. I love to make this at this time of year when everything is so fresh. Also made a matrimonial cake (date cake) which I am not going to eat!
It is one of those days, cloudy a little cooler so you feel like soup.
Have a good evening all!

emoticon beautiful fall day. Just back from church & brunch, later heading to the city for supper with the Elliot Clan Society (DH grandmother was an Elliot). One of the members is doing a travelogue on the clan's ancestral home on the "Borders" between Scotland & England. Visiting there and my ancestral home on the Isle of Mull is on both of our bucket lists.

Great to catch up on everyone's posts. The 5% challenge has taken up much of my Sparking time it seems, but am still lurking around even if not posting as often. Have signed up for the fall challenge & am working on losing the last of my 13 lb goal in the summer one. Last week I lost 1.5 lbs, but SP rounded it up to 2 lbs. Guess they don't do fractions well.

Finished the latest Louise Penny mystery "How the Light Gets In" - not quite up to the standard of the previous two, but a good read nonetheless. What did you think of it, Honouria?

Hi to Pat, Donna, Lin. Ushi, Stephanie, Anjay - hope you're happy, busy and enjoying life.

Hi ladies, not sure why I have not been getting the messages.....but I am here and will try to catchup.
First if all Lin, you are sure going through some scary stuff aren't you. I think you are amazing how you handle all this. Thanks for explaining it so well. I am so surprised that your procedure is not covered. Hopefully it will be soon. Keep us posted on how the angiogram goes. Stents are so common nowadays and they usually do them while you have the angiogram. You have so much to deal with........amazing lady.
Anjay, I an happy to hear your Dad is out of the hospital. My Dad had Parkinson's too. It is an ugly disease. Our prayers are with you....
Pat, glad to hear you are going into the challenge again....me too. They sure keep me focused so I don't want to quit!!!!!
Steph, good to hear from you too. Lucky you with all those kiddies so close by!!!!
Charlotte, you are one busy lady but I guess that is life on the farm. I remember going out to my DH's uncle farm in Manitoba. We use to go out in Aug/Sept and help with the having. Auntie would be busy like you can ing freezing, working in the garden and cooking these large meals all day long. It sure is not a life for malingerers!!!! I remember getting up one day and Uncle Bill had prepared pork chops for breakfast!! Not for this city girl....but you had to eat it!!!

emoticon
Has anyone heard from Honouria lately? Been missing her!!!
Well ladies I have been up to my usual, going to the gym, golfing and doing the usual around home. One more week ,eft of the challenge......next week is my birthday....and we are heading to Kananaskis for a wedding next Thursday. It's a family get together so we are really looking forward to it. T ignt we are off to a friends for dinner so yeah, I don't have to cook!
Have a good day all and I do miss you guys when I don't catch up daily!

that is great news. It is difficult to support family members when you do not live near them. Are you very far away?
