Hey everybody - I am Jeanne and I heard about the book last week - Dr Roizen was being interviewed on the radio that morning and all I could remember was to measure your waist, walk for 30 minutes everyday and the last two of his books displaced Harry Potter on teh bes sellers list! I called the radio station but the person who answered the phone didn't know what I was talking about but I emailed the producer. In the meantime I used my sleuthing skills and foudn the information myself! I orderd the book though the library but the waitling list is too long so I had my daughter buy me a copy a the mall last night.

I have been walking or exercising for 30 minutes every day since I heard aobut the book last week.

Can someone tell me about the discovery program? I would like to see it.

Jeanne

Ok now that I have already put my 2 cents in on some of the discussions, let me introduce myself....
My name is Dee and I live in Columbus Ohio home of the Buckeyes(THE GAME is on Saturday at 3:30!!!) I have been on every diet in the world as most of us have and this book is so concise and motivating that I really feel it's gonna kick me into gear once and for all.
I just retired in July with 30 years of service to our university medical center's radiology department and have politley put on 20 pounds. Happened right before my very eyes. I cannot fit into anything without it being so constrictive that I can barely breathe. Guess what??!! No more!
Thanks for starting this!! I appreciate the opportunity to hang out with all of you!!!

Ellen - no problem!

The Sweet and Low and Aspartame stuff is probably fine - I'm not sure what Dr. Oz says about that, I just decided to stop using that stuff based on other things I've read. One being that artificial sweeteners tend to make you hungrier, some study said that people who drank diet sodas had a tendency to be overweight (could it be that they make you hungry, or that us overweight people are the ones drinking all the diet soda because we want to lose!). I will try to see if I can find that study and post the link here.

Good luck!

Thank you! I am going to do a better job reading my packages.

Guess that means I need to stay away from things like sweet and low too?

I don't use much, but like a sprinkle in my coffee and maybe on my cereal.

These sweetened yogurts...aspurtame(sp?)...how bad are they?

Guess I better get reading!

Thanks again for the HFCS definition.

HFCS = High Fructose Corn Syrup - a big No-No according to Doctor Oz - it keeps your hunger hormones from turning off, causing you to over eat!!

You wouldn't believe how many reduced calorie bread and cracker products have it, as well as 100% whole grain breads that you think are good for you!

Hi Anne, welcome!

What is HFCS?

I am encouraged to have this group and I am looking forward to applying what Dr. Oz encourages. I really appreciate the way he explains things and his knowledge.

Welcome aboard Ash! We're glad you've joined us!

I've heard that Dr. Oz said to suck it in. I didn't suck it in though, I just exhaled normally and took the measurement that way.

Hi Everyone! I just picked up this book. I also have YOU: The owner's manual, which I really enjoyed reading and reference it all the time.

I have a question - when you measure your waist, do you suck it in or do you just kind of relax?

Thanks!

Hi everyone! I'm so excited about this! Thanks for starting this team, Kimgonzo!!

My name is Anne, and I've really been struggling with a plateau for the last year!

I have You:The Owner's Manual - I've incorporated a lot of the same things, but based on the changes I've made so far, I'm goint to get the book and incorporate the rest of it to see what happens!

I must say that I am feeling really good - the last two weeks I have cut out the HFCS, and am trying to get rid of as much extra "chemical" stuff as possible. I've been eating "light" for so long, I didn't realize how much junk I was putting in my body! Watch out for some of these "light" or even "100% whole grain." Really read your labels!

I've completely cut out diet sodas and even Splenda (I'm using Stevia). Also any refined white breads and pastas.

After my first week, I felt great! I've had a week with no more late afternoon dips in my energy level, and my brain is "awake" all day (after I finish my morning coffee, of course). Now, if I could just start losing waist...I measured this morning and I'm at 35 1/2 inches, so not too far from the healthy #!

Nice to meet all of you!

Anne

Hi everyone. My name is Nana and I live in upstate NY. I just finished listening to the book on CD although I haven't printed off the actual diet plan yet that is on the DVD... I saw Dr. Oz on Oprah and also saw their special on Discovery Health Channel. I love the way they explain "WHY" things are the way they are in your body and metabolism. I also like how they are interested in waist management and not so fixated on the scale. A whole new approach that makes perfect sense to me. I have lost 11 lbs. and 11 inches since I started in September. Hope to to get know you all better and looking forward to our discussions.

I purchased the book two weeks ago and have read it a few times. The book is filled with great information...some things I've read before but all the info is put it a way that make me more motivated to put it into practice.

I hate that ad. The first two times it tinkled, the balls were off-screen so I sat here staring at my computer for a couple minutes trying to figure out why it made this noise at me. Finally I made the connection between that ad and the noise. Now that I know what it is, it's "only" annoying, but it was driving me crazy before I made the connection!

Oh, and edited to ask: Am I the only one that is driven nuts by the "tinkle" on the "eatbetteramerica" ads?

Hi everyone, my name is Ellen. I am so happy that someone started this team. I love Dr. Oz and try to catch him on Oprah whenever I can.

I bought the book yesterday and started reading it this morning. I read ahead to the food plan and recipes and it sounds really good to me. He always has such good advice to offer and as a world renowned heart surgeon, he has seen it all!

I would love to team up with people following his plan.

Thanks again for starting the team.

I'm trying to let go a little and just log my foods into my Spark diary without looking at calories or macronutrients. I'm trying to focus on "clean" eating and exercise and working on moderation in both.

I'm only on Chapter Two right now. I think the book is a lot of good common sense, but some of the concepts are pretty hard for me to deal with....like losing weight without counting calories or weighing and measuring all my food.

I haven't finished reading the book, so I don't know, but I think the idea is that they want to help you change the way you eat permanently so that maintenance becomes natural. I remember they said something about your body wanting to maintain its optimal weight (and we all know from plateaus that often your body just wants to maintain whatever weight it's at now!) so theoretically, if we learn how to short-circuit our bad habits, maintenance will come naturally.

Hi
I'm Melanie and I live in Pa. I ordered the book from Amazon right before it was released last Tuesday. I've been reading some of it already. I really wish they included more on maintenance and what to do when you loose the weight you need.

Looking forward to chatting.

Welcome to all the new people!

I half-way introduced myself before. I'm Beth in my late 30s and trying to lose weight so I'm in better shape to chase after my son.

I am still waiting, semi-patiently, for my book. I really liked Dr. Oz and his energy on Oprah. Heck, my husband even liked him, so I'm hoping that he's going to consider working with me on the program.

Jennie,

First, welcome aboard! We're glad to have you join us!

Second, don't be discouraged about gaining the weight back. I started out around the same weight you're at now, lost thirty pounds, gained it back, but I lost it again. My weight loss has come off in fits-and-starts, and I've had to take entire months and years "off" when dieting triggered eating disorders I've battled my entire life. It's been a long journey, but I've finally lost a hundred pounds and I'm confident that I'll be able to keep it off with what we're learning from the YOU book and our friends at SparkPeople.

Hi! I just got the book this morning. I watched their special on Discovery Health Channel after I had ordered the book, so I was pretty anxious to get it.
Does anyone know of a CD that accompanies the book? Someone was saying in a thread that the copies from Amazon have a partner CD. Hmmm.....
Anyway, I'd like to read and join in. I am in dire need of some "waist management" as I weigh 270 lbs. I'm diabetic (T2) and have PCOS.
In 2004-2005 I went from 257 to 191, only to gain it all back. I need to find someway to stay on track and maintain a weight loss.
Hope this helps!
