Just "regular" brown rice? I'm going to check out some of these other kinds, too.

On another one of our threads, I'm about to post a rice SMOOTHIE recipe, from chef Rachel Ray. Of course I'm gonna make it with whole-grain rice!

I just joined this team and I just have to jump in right away. I also love the Brown Rice Medley from Trader Joe's. It's my favorite.

I had a rare chance to leisurely go through Co$tco yesterday and came across a new thing to me : Great Valley Healthy Expectations Multigrain rice Blend--7grain medley with cranberries and almonds. Ingredients (because I know you want to know) Long grain parboiled rice, Gen ji Mai Calrose brown rice, rye berries, hulless barley, basmati, white rice, medium grain red rice, dried cranberries, (sugar, sunflower oil), dry roasted almonds and California wild rice.

Now that I look at that closely, the 'whole grains' are not that enticing but I like the cranberry/almond idea. I can't wait to try this, but I think I could just add cranberries and almonds to my TJ medley mix.

Has anyone else tried this?

Today I am experimenting with a mixture of 1/4c (all measurements are of dry, uncooked rice) organic long grain brown rice, 1/4c organic germinated brown rice, and 1/4c forbidden rice, along with 1.5 cups of no sodium broth and water, all in my rice cooker, happily cooking as I type this!

LOL! Love that phrase, "now that I've broken up with butter." !!

I've held back on getting the Bhutanese red...might have to.

I'm not caring that much for the black (forbidden) rice. I liked it in a salad that Whole Foods made, and it's okay when I put it on a lettuce salad I make here, but I don't care for it to eat like i do brown rice.

We had Bhutanese Red Rice last night. I cooked it so it got really dry and it was a bit crunchy and nutty. Really excellent.

I like rice plain but I also sometimes add a tad of hummus or salsa for variety now that I've broken up with butter.

At our house, Trader Joe's Brown Rice Medley is a fave. It's a combination of long grain brown rice, black barley and daikon radish seed. Love the texture.

Tonight I had some deliciously crunchy, nutty red Camargue rice. I got it via mail order from a place in Michigan. I've never seen it sold near where I live.

it was excellent.

I'm so excited. I was able to go a few towns away to an Asian market/mini mall, and I bought purple rice and also black rice!!! These will be fun to try....or at least make a very colorful plate!!!

I love brown rice, but I am experimenting with different kinds of rices, and making my own blends, such as 50% long grain with 50% sweet brown (which is a short grain and makes the long grain sticky enough to eat with chopsticks, but not TOO sticky!)

I also have organic quinoa and several different organic rices to play arond with int he coming weeks!

And of course, where would I be without my beloved rice cooker??? LOVE LOVE LOVE my rice cooker!!!

So, what's your favorite rice or rice blend?
