My resolutions for 2012 are:

~Lose 73 pounds to meet my weight loss goal
~Continue to eat healthy (I'm 3 days in, so far so good!)
~Become more active (I could happily sit on the couch all day)
~Drink at least 8 glasses of water (I know I have water gain)
~Take the time to make myself presentable (I've kind of given up until recently)

It sounds like a lot of us have similar resolutions. I know we can do it! Best of luck, everyone! emoticon

UKCANNUK - I think I might add your 3rd goal re: appearance...I used to take a great deal of pride in mine (dress nicely, styled my hair, some make-up - not a lot since I don't wear it often), but not so much lately. I think it would be a great confidence booster!

Mini Goal#2: 175 - new running shoes
Mini Goal #3: 160 - mani/pedi

My goals for 2012 are...
1. lose 2 pounds per week, consistently.
2. eat/drink more healthily
you think these two would go hand in hand but I lost 60 lbs in 7 months back in 2007 , I spent a lot of time at the gym but was binge eating rubbish.
3. make an effort with my appearance EVERY DAY

If you doubt you can accomplish something, then you can't accomplish it.
You have to have confidence in your ability and then be tough enough to follow through.

Happy New Year!!!

My goals for the new year are to (1) stop negative thinking, (2) try harder, (3) treat myself better, and (4) remind myself daily that I do matter!!!!

My weight is only a number and doesn't define who I am as a woman, wife, and mother. I need to start TODAY putting myself first. If I focus on my goals, I truly believe everything else will fall into place.

I owe it to myself.........

Resolutions Resolutions - I'm not sure about them! I'm the same, as soon as I've said them, I've broken them!! This year I would like to work on myself a bit. I have a demanding husband who is very critical about my size/shape/energy level, and a wonderful 11 year old who'd never say it, but would love to have a slimmer mummy. I have listened too much to my husband and lost confidence and I have certainly put family and career before myself - or are those just excuses for not going to the gym?!! At Christmas, one of my nieces did my make up and I realised how little i bother now. When I put in my ear rings, I realised I haven't worn any for ages... I think this is called "letting yourself go"! I really want this, and I am so happy to find a site/book that concentrates on the psychology of losing weight. I personally have known it would take more than a simple diet for me. I wish you all a great year and I hope we are all still together this time next year! G XX

Put myself first :) and just to continue to live life to the fullest :)

You swore and said,
"We are not,
We are not shining stars"
This I know,
I never said we are

Though I've never been through hell like that
I've closed enough windows to know you can never look back

If you're lost and alone
Or you're sinking like a stone
Carry on
May your past be the sound
Of your feet upon the ground
Carry on

Carry on, carry on

I don't do resolutions. I do however pick one job on Christmas Day that I don't want to go into the NY having it hang over my head and then finish it. I accomplished that yesterday, it was cleaning out my office. Did you know that there is a FLOOR in the office emoticon

I'm inspired by all of your resolutions! I usually have pages of resolutions, and then they fizzle the first time I have a bad day. This year- I really like the idea of monthly habits- thanks! So, January I will drink a glass of water before each meal (I know that's not 8 a day, but a huge improvement for me!), will exercise at least 10 minutes a day, and will wake up at 6 (sounds hard, but that's when my husband gets up so I CAN do it). Waking up on time is the only way I go to sleep on time- so hopefully that will nudge me closer to 8 hours of sleep.

That's all- water (3), move (10 minutes), and get up on time! I can absolutely do that.

In 2012 I would like to:
- Get a position in a career that I love...I have had this before, so think I can do it again. Also, unemployment has slowed me down and extra weight has resulted;
- Work out at least 3-5 x a week and record it in the fitness tracker;
- Eat within the prescribed calorie allotment and track what I am eating;
- Drink 8 glasses of water a day;
- Lose ~4 lbs a month;
- Help my overweight Maine Coon to lose weight ;-)
-Not forget some of the lovely things that this time out of work has brought once work starts...

Happy New Years Eve to the 12/25-31 SP Class!

I would like to realistically lose 15 lbs. each month. With exercise and watching what I eat, I believe that is a goal that I can make happen.

I would also like to be able to walk at least two miles without tiring, or having to divide the walk up.

Drink 8 glasses of water every day.

Work out three times a week.

Change the way I eat, and let all of the old habits die out, and bring in all new eating habits.

For my New Year's Resolution, I am not going to say, "loose 100lbs!" or "Never Eat Junk Food AGAIN!" All I'm promising my self is to eat some lettuce a few times a week. Get some activity done a few times a week, and reward my self for every goal I set for myself. I know I'm setting my bar pretty low, but If I can do these then the rest should be easy!

I found a great article that breaks down some stuff about New Year's resolutions (a bit crude... it's from a comedy site... so if you're easily offended I wouldn't read it... but it made some really good points). It talks about resolutions in general, but it leans heavily on weight loss, and it has tips to actually make your resolutions work.

http://www.cracked.com/blog/5-reasons-yo
ur-new-years-resolution-going-to-fail/

My New Year's resolution is to take some of the tips a few of you have suggested (love the "monthly habit" suggestion), and try to avoid all the factors that make resolutions fail... and REALLY make it work this year.

I think my New Year's resolution this year is going to be to not make a New Year's resolution. Instead I think I'll go with Flylady's idea of making a new habit monthly, and on that note, I'll start with:

For January 2012, I am going to make a concerted effort to keep my house cleaner every day. Cleaner house = more activity, healthier me, healthier family.

I'd like to lose about 50 lbs this year, but I'm not making it a resolution. I lost 40 last year, gained about 3 back between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Losing weight seems to work better for me when I focus more on making healthy eating changes and less on exactly how many calories I'm eating and what the number on the scale is. And I ditched some of my healthier habits between Thanksgiving and Christmas. So, the sugar is back out, the fiber is back in. Good luck everyone, and have a happy New Year :D

Hello everyone! This is my first post so I hope I am doing it right! :-) I enjoyed reading others' goals for the year and thought I would put mine out there too.

Short term goals: 8 glasses of water a day, track my intake daily, journal three times weekly and do ten minutes of cardio daily and three sets of the beginners exercises a week.

Long term goals: lose 79 lbs this year (that is about 1.5 lbs per week), go tubing this summer (an activity I really enjoy, but haven't done recently because of my weight) and start dating again this year (as my weight has gone up, my confidence and willingness to put myself out there in the dating world has gone down.)

Every year I make these firm Resolutions and within 6 months they are out the window and I am upset with myself again. So this year I plan on taking everyday slowly. My first goal was to re-join Sparkpeople. My second is to make a conscious effort to live a healthier lifestyle. I wish all my fellow Sparkers the best for 2012. Here is to a positive year.

Starting out slowly. I signed up the other night and then haven't been back until today. I really want to lose weight this year and get back into life again. I had a health issue pull me out of my life a year and a half ago. I was in bed for two months and lost my job. I struggle with depression and anxiety which are two things I never really believed in until it happened to me. Right now I have a foot that is in an air cast and will probably be having surgery in a couple of weeks to repair a tendon. I am really wanting to be active and it's hard to stay off my foot. I have been tracking my blood sugar and I believe I will probably have a Diabetes 2 diagnosis at the next doctor appointment if I don't get this under control with diet. My year resolutions are to lose 50 pounds; become mobile and make exercise a priority every day; plan my meals weekly so we can shop smart; and organize my house starting with my office. I will be more specific with my exercise goals once I know what I can and can't do with my foot repair.
January's specific goals are to track my food intake at least 4 times a week and drink 8 glasses of water every day.
Good luck everyone!

I haven't set my new years resolution yet. I know that setting a goal is the way to go, but I don't want to set one unrealistic that I never will achieve it. So I will set small ones and go from there. Rejoining sparkpeople one one of them so right now I'm on the right path to success!

I've enjoyed reading all your resolutions! We CAN do this together!

I have ONE major goal this year and I believe that by working toward this goal many positive changes will naturally take place. This year I want to run my first 10K.
I'm going to start by focusing on my "spark" recommendations for nutrition and fitness.

Good luck everyone...looking forward to getting to know you!!

My goal for the year is to not have to take blood pressure medication.
In order to do that, I will:

1. Walk every day - even if it's just a quick walk around the block.
2. Cut salt out of my diet (yes, especially potato chips).
3. Drink 8 glasses of water every day.
4. Manage my stress levels better.

Hello Everyone! I look forward to getting to know some of you and hopefully we can work together.

1. Stop smoking. I only smoke a couple of cigarettes a week but even that is bad.
2. Cut out all soda. Even diet.
3. Run a 5k.
4. Hike Pikes Peak in August
5. Get my photography business going!

my long term goal is to end this new and coming year much healthier than I am now.

short term goals for month of January
1) actually eat the fresh fruit and fresh veggies I buy for my family... currently I lie to myself saying if I eat it there wont be any for them .

2) I really need to learn to drink water and or green tea, not just live on soda and drive through smoothies.

3) add fish to my and my families meals at least 3 to 5 times a week.... told family they can either eat it or make their own food... they are old enough

4) this one is the most important one... I want to look.. actuallly look at myself in the mirror every day and start each day positive with I can do this for me... I am worth making healthy life style changes .... and tell myself that today is my day .... I will make the choices I make for me today not for others... I will tell those that in the past and current time frame have joked and sabataged my "dieting efforts" "exercise choices" etc that they are sabators and to please turn and go away from me... and if they wont I will turn and go away from them and not let my feelings of each incounter to change those positivce steps of eatting and exercise I have planned for the day...

Never been a fan of New Year Resolutions usually but have opted for two this year.

To read more and to get back into my music.

The rest of my goals have been an ongoing process in my lifestyle change.

Wishing everyone a fantastic 2012.

Well, this time of year brings a lot of thoughts about where we’ve been, and where we want to go. We come up with our “New Year’s resolutions”, charge full force into making them happen, and then about two to three weeks into January, reality that we’ve “over-goaled” ourselves sets in, and those resolutions fall away, bit by bit.

SparkPeople has shown that goals (resolutions, as they are known this time of year) are fantastic, wonderful, and a great way to accomplish something. The reason New Year's resolutions don’t normally last is that the change you are trying to make it too large all at once. Start small, and slowly work your way to your goals.

So this year, and your new start on SparkPeople:

Write down your goals for your long-term health (not for the year, month, next week – FOR LIFE). Then, and this is so important, write down some small habits you can change now to get you started. Some ideas may be:

Drink 8 glasses of water a day
Don’t drink soda today
Grab a bag of pretzels instead of potato chips for your snack
Eat two veggie servings today
Walk to the end of the block (driveway, road, other) once a day
Take the stairs instead of the elevator once a day

Again, these are just some ideas. Look around the website, or come up with your own. Challenge yourself. Write it down (you can use the “own goals” tab here if you wish – just let us know if you need help) and/or reply to this message board. We can help you along your way!
