Hello Everyone!!

I am still where I am when I started. I lose then gain 4 then lose than gain 4 on and on and on and on.

I went to see a doctor about it. I am still trying and will not give up but some days I feel so defeated. I am going to try to get on and read some messages and blogs at least once a week. I like them but sometimes I do not feel like I have the time.

White flour is my downfall. In cakes, cookies, pastries, tortillas, pita, naan, you name it, if it's got white flour in it, I can't eat just one.

My problem is not really losing the weight but keeping it off...I lose the same 25lbs over and over again! How do we keep it off?

Hi RYMKES, I started SP with modest weight loss goals stretched out over a whole year. It gave me a chance to work into the SP way of doing things and have lots of small successes. After I figured out how it basically worked, I had the confidence to move my goals up by half a year and take on bigger challenges in the nutrition and fitness trackers. However, I don't know if I would have stuck with it, if I had set the bar too high in the beginning, if you know what I mean.

The future starts now.

Hi!

I haven't been very active on this team yet, but i would like to start :)

I haven't been losing weight either, but i have to! I just changed my weight loss goals to a much slower speed which might help me to not be so disappointed. Just signed up for a fantastic dance-workshop/holiday next summer so if I get to my goal weight before that I would be thrilled.

I could really use the help of teammembers to stay on track, and i will try to do the same for others

Thanks for the link to that helpful information on drinking water and plateaus -C_A_W- . Learned a lot from my reading.

Still in awe of having been without a functioning computer, which meant I was also without SP access, over 4 days. Somehow I managed not to just abandon any hopes of losing weight this time, but instead to try to choose the best options from the foods available. Even had 3 glasses of wine on the evening of my birthday! Because I knew I would be back on SP as soon as my computer was back in action, I wanted to be able to say I had at least tried to stay on the straight and narrow. Never imagined I'd still manage to lose 2bls. while doing so. Proof that SP has changed my life, so far as I'm concerned.

I deserve to be healthy and happy, and no one can do that for me but myself!

I'm going to be "up" this week too. I put the up in quotations because it is most likely that our large losses in the first week or two was all water weight.

I know that until I restarted with SP I had a very difficult time drinking water. Most days my only fluid intake was a cup or two of coffee...maybe some wine in the evening. We all know that those are not hydrating drinks.

So my first couple weeks here on SP have been concentrating on drinking water. That, in turn, flushes out all the water that my body was desperately trying to hang onto to counteract the fact that I didn't take in enough fluids.

This means that you are not "UP" per se, your body is catching up...you lost water weight in the first week or two...now your body is burning fat. That is why it is so important to keep drinking that water...because as soon as you stop, your body will start retaining it again.

You could also be retaining water if you had a couple particularly high sodium days. Added sodium/salt in your diet will create water retention.

Don't worry about a "plateau". A plateau can only truly be called if you've stayed within the same couple pounds range over a series of weeks despite making changes to your Caloric intake and output.

Give your body time to adjust. It'll get there...

Check here for more information on drinking water and plateaus:

Have you tried measuring your waist and hips and all of that and using that as an extra form of tracking? I haven't lost any weight this week either, in spite of faithfully following the eating plan and working out regularly. But when I measure my waist and hips I have lost over an inch to each, so I know that the plan is making changes to my body even though the scale isn't showing anything good at all.

I don't get it. As you know, we're only a few weeks into this. And here I am, having a plateau or something already. I went from 191 to 187, only to find myself at 187.6 this morning. Up 0.6. Great.

The only things I can think of are:

I started working out this week. Perhaps I converted some muscle already?

I DO tend towards the high range of my calories. Perhaps I really need to lower my range.

Trying really hard not to get discouraged, but it is a little depressing after a week of saying no and working out.

Sometimes I find myself feeling snacky in the evenings...usually while watching "my shows"...

Since my hubby has been away, though, I've been drawing a bubble bath for myself in the evenings once the kids are in bed. I take my book and my bottle of water...occasionally a cup of tea...and I just relax and take some "me" time. I've found that I'm snacking less when I pamper myself more.

I guess we have to ask ourselves, "What are you REALLY hungry for?" Apparently I'm hungry for "me" time.

To stop from losing focus in the evenings, stay busy. Do something you enjoy that keeps your hands and mind occupied. I like to do crafts. Sitting in front of the computer or tv is deadly for impulsive snacking!

When I feel my focus slipping away, that's when I head to my computer and Spark People. Just the fact I am doing something such as planning another day's meals, reading a team member's blog or posting something on the message boards of the team I'm a member of is enough to remind me why I decided to take this journey in the first place. During the day when I'm more focused, I basically only come online here when I need to check meals, etc. I have planned for my day.
Works for me, hope that it may help you too. Just hang in there, and remember we all have those moments.

Just another suggestion for ARICANDY --
Maybe a small tub of low fat fruit yoghurt would help if that 'need' for something sweet transforms itself into a need for something sweet and creamy. As soon as I started feeling a little flat, mid afternoon, I would head on down to my local bakery and buy myself a big slice of rich, creamy cheesecake, enjoy eating every last crumb, then feel bad about it for the rest of the day.
The yoghurt - I started on cheesecake flavour yoghurt - is a guilt free sweet, creamy treat, and lifts my energy levels back up where i need them to be to get through the rest of my day.
Hope this helps.

Aricandy,

Maybe you could try having an orange or a banana as a mid afternoon snack. That will give you the energy boost you are looking for...and it'll have some vitamins and potassium that your body needs.

As for the eating out part...there is no reason you should feel like you can't go...it'll be hard, I know, but the key is to look over the menu and try to make the BEST choice you can in any given situation. So maybe fill up on a big salad as an appetizer before your meal, look for items described as "roasted" or "grilled" or "pan seared" rather than "fried", "battered" and "sauteed".

Making the healthier choices is a learning process. Eventually, if you do it often enough, it becomes habit.

Remember, babysteps babysteps babysteps. Rather than looking at your day as messed up, celebrate the victories. Did you journal everything that passed your lips? If so, give yourself a pat on the back!

I've found, in the past, journaling everything I eat, good and bad, is such a HUGE tool...because I can look back later and say: "Oh yeah, I ate those things cuz I was PMSing" or "I have a history of reaching for cake when I get stressed" or "ooh, that lunch wasn't a good choice but that is because I didn't eat breakfast"

The first couple weeks of Spark People (Fast Break stage) is to just help you get in the mindset of the journey. To help you start the healthy habits.

Each and every moment has infinite potential and infinite energy, so approach life one moment at a time.

I let myself get too hungry today. I had a coffee date with a friend today that led me to not eating lunch until 2pm. By then I was starving! So I ended up making a bad choice for lunch rather than a healthy one because I let my stomach rule me.

emoticon Almost 1000 Calories and nearly 60g fat in 2 chicken pot pies!!!!!! emoticon

No wonder I feel emoticon this afternoon!

I'm going to drink lots of water and go for another walk tonight, maybe a little run, just to help lessen the damage.

OY! emoticon
