Have good run tomorrow (9-Oct 2011) RUSSELLHARTZEL . I was just reading about the Galloway training the other day. I did 26+ training run before the AFM, for me, I just wanted to know I could go the distance. I do agree with Galloway that, 20 miles for the long run, may be too short. It is one of the reasons I do 20+ runs.
Tomorrow will doing a fun 1/2 marathon I decide Wednesday to run it because of the course, it winds along the river here in Dayton, very scenic . My last long will be the 16th planning a 20+ run, before cutting back.
LOVE the new group LOGO! GREAT LOGO emoticon

No that was not a typo. I am running a 28 mile LSD on Sunday. I am following the Galloway Plan which tops out at 28 miles.

Please tell me that's a typo, and you're not actually running 28 miles?

Ditto on the cold weather, although I was a little more excited! I got to break out some cooler-weather stuff I'd scored on sale at the beginning of the summer, and this was the first chance I had to wear it! (yes, I'm such a girl!)

I have a one last long run of 28 miles this coming sunday and then I will taper to the MCM. I will be glad when it is over. I am now starting to think that I am going to focus on some shorter races through nw til spring. I would like to focus on speed and loosing weight.

Just looked at the calendar, 28 days and counting, three more long runs and we are doing the run. Had my first cold weather run today, it was weird after all the hot weather running this summer. Had hard time deciding what to wear, finally when with lightest thing I could wear and still handle the cold. Worked out, only had couple places where, start to lose core temp, from the wind. I think all the "form" training is starting to payoff, held pace for most of the run. I've switch out my course now so the finish is now mile plus 3% grade,at the end, to handle that final hill of MCM. Planning more speed work this week, maybe doing 1/2 marathon this coming weekend. Have mix feeling about that because it cuts into my training for this marathon, just not sure I want mess with the training schedule.

I ran my weekend mileage past some trusted ladies (Run Like a Mother on Facebook), and they also suggested I throw in a stepback this week, then do another 20 or 22-er next weekend, then begin my taper.

Additionally, that 20 miler last weekend kicked my bootay! I had to back off on my strength training this week, and I couldn't believe how much I didn't care! Normally I would be climbing the walls if I didn't get in some muscle-blasting ST, but I was really feeling those 20 miles.

Taking it easier this week totally paid off on today's long run. RB and I did 18, and he had to keep reminding me to slow down! I couldn't believe how great I felt! Even some of the joint soreness I've been feeling around the later miles didn't bug me much today. My feet are a little sore, as I broke in the new Brooks today, but everything else is copacetic!
Looking forward to 20 or 22 next weekend (we'll see how it goes), then ready for Taper Town!

You really can trust your training, I've learned some great things in the past few weeks:

- I used to just ACHE when I finished a run. Mind you, I don't feel like running victory laps, but I do shake it off and get on with the day. There was a time when I would be amazed if you'd told me I could run 20 miles, and go on to have a normal day afterwards! I know that I'll be able to do 26.2 on race day and I won't be a mess afterwards. I'm taking it slow and shooting to finish, running 95% of the way (walking for water / fuel stops).
- All of this training really is making my body tougher and less prone to the ouchies. I remember doing 10 and 12 milers, and if we slowed down to walk for more than 30 seconds, it would be a good minute or so before my muscles loosened back.. they tightened up QUICK! Now that doesn't happen until the upper teen miles. Also, no real soreness today. It takes time, you CANNOT rush marathon training, but your body will eventually adapt.
- The taper is not going to have me climbing the walls, and really will help me on race day. Just one week of taking it a little easier, and I crushed today's run. I also needed that slight reduction in training this week, after the 20 miler last weekend. I'm going to need it again after I do (fingers crossed!) 22 this coming weekend. That taper is going to be a relief, and I'm going to rock this marathon!
- Running Buddy says he's going to tie a 50 pound bag of dog food around me to slow me down during the first few miles on race day! I need to get better about pacing at the beginning, regardless of how great I feel!

Counting down to MCM!!!

I'm always worried before any race, but now that I've move up to full marathons, and just finished my first one, I know what is coming :-~ I did light week of running last week, post marathon, but stepping up the mileage this week. No issues in terms of injuries, did 23 mile run Sunday, this week just doing the mileage. Main thing is working on running form, right now, hoping that helps, with holding a good pace to the end. I was happy with the AFM marathon time, but my big surprise is, at about 20 mile, lost my pace, when from 9:10 miles to 10:00 miles. Hoping I can clean up my form enough to bring in the MCM in at 4hrs.
(Not sure if I'm being realistic about that my last time was 4hr 12min) But either way pumped to do this!

Hang in there you can do it. I am looking forward to the taper as well. Also if you are looking at new shoes prior to the race now is the time to be getting them. Becareful running a 20 miler and a 22 miler on back to back weekends.

Exhausted! Just did my 20 miles yesterday, and I was so sore when I finished! I've actually strained my hamstrings a bit, and have really been trying to take it easier on them over the last 2 weeks.. I was surprised that I didn't feel as bad yesterday as I thought I would. Planning on 22 this coming weekend, then very much looking forward to the taper. Man!

I have been struggling this last week with motivation and being worn out. It got me thinking that I am probably not the only one. I am at the point where I am ready to be done. Am I the only one. I learned an important lesson in the training for this marathon, when I traini for my
next marathon i will not start so early and as intense. I also need a running buddy next time because I have trained completely on my own and I think that has hurt me.

how is everyone else doing?
