I'm a little late joining in here but I actually have the opposite happen to me. I can usually get the things I came for and throw in a few extra goodies and I almost never go over $25. Its like a bargain wonderland for me. It seems like everything I want or need is around $2.50.

I *heart* Trader Joe's!

Went twice last week went for the second time yesterday. I bought the garlic chicken stir fry and had that for dinner and again today for lunch. I also love their garlic humus and I was running low so that is why I had to go back. emoticon I purchased that nice little blue surfer bag. I did not see orchids, but I will look next time. Would make a nice gift for Easter. Oh well, I guess I have to force myself to go again midweek.

Dropped $54 not bad for two bags?

Hi - about the orchids - a friend gave me one from there - 4 years ago and it has blossomed again this spring - as it has every spring since I got it. For this one wonderful plant, my thumb has turned green! As of today, it has 14 blossoms - love it - love it, love it. . .Meri

I went for my 2nd visit on Wednesday and I dropped $112! LOL The first time it was $98. I think Trader Joes is taking over my Target addiction. I get so much more food than I would from a regular grocery store or from Whole Foods (they have good variety but they are expensive).

Organicchick, I had the tilapia and veggies last night with the frozen jasmine rice! OMG! It's the best dinner I've had in WEEKS! I'm going to finish off the rest tonight for dinner. Trader Joes ROCKS! I'm so glad I've discovered it!

I like to use the cart for support, but I have a shopping bag that hooks onto each side of the cart basket, neat!

That's what I do--take my TJ's bag and put stuff in there as I shop. I started doing it because the stores are so cramped that trying to negotiate a shopping cart is insane!

When I'm on a budget and trying to be careful, I've learned a trick: I carry in a bag and don't use the baskets or the carts. I load up my one bag, and when it is full, I have to leave. It makes me a bit more aware of how much I'm buying, plus I get a good ST session with carrying it around!

Doesn't always work, though. It is amazing how much $ you can fit in one shopping bag of groceries, even at TJ's!

I have the ability to go in and come out with exactly what I went for! One thing that helps me is that I have a food allergy to sunflower seeds/oil and you would be amazed at how many foods contain it.

Costco and TJ's aren't side by side but they're within half a mile of eachother. It's a pain because I have to drive 45 minutes to get there but once i'm there, It's great. I just take the coolers and it's fine.

I find the drive difficult and only get there a couple of times a year and the last trip I dropped over $300 and it's all for just me! emoticon emoticon Well, I do like to have special goodies when my friend from LA comes to visit and it's nice to have special TJ's fixings to enhance whatever I bring to my potlucks and Bible studies! emoticon

I like the 2% but don't bother with the non-fat. Bleh. I can actually find the greek yogurt at a couple of local markets if I run out but it's so much cheaper at TJ's. I make my own sometimes but buying it is easier if not cheaper.

Interesting that you have a Trader Joe's next to a Costco like I do here in the Minneapolis area. I don't usu. spend a ton of money, but last week, it was $130 at Trader Joe's. I got hooked on their Fage Greek yogurt and I add their frozen blueberries to it for my lunch. This time, I bought the 2% instead of the really high fat one, so shall see. I just bought their NEW chocolat chip/choc. cake ice cream cake for $7.99 to have on hand for drop by visitors. LOVE TRADER JOE'S and all the people that work there. BUT, now I must lose those nasty 18 pounds still lingering since I joined Spark People in 2008.

To make it worse, I usually do Trader Joes and Costco in the same run since they're close together and both in Indianapolis so we're actually talking about a $500-600 run but fortunately it's only once a month. I bring two big coolers and fill them both plus the back end of van full.

Oh, I live toooo close! There is always something, some one thing, I need (want?) If I'm lucky I come out with 5 to 10 items - and that is every week - sometimes twice a week. Working on a budget right now - sob, sob - and will have to have some self-discipline this year! I wish us all luck!

Have fallen in love with his Garlic Hummus and the Greek yogurt (try the blueberry!) which I had never tried anywhere before.
Oh, and his almond butter - and - cashew butter! I must admit, the first jar of almond butter I got never made it any farther than my full spoon - an honest to goodness, almond butter "lolly pop".
Sorry, wasn't going to add that - but - I do love Trader Joe's! Meri

Does this happen to anyone else?

But, I got some great things today. Some rice, jellies, fruits and veggies, Trader Os, fish (the biggie), sushi for a quick lunch, nuts, cheese, etc. Some new finds: frozen tilapia and veggies, flavored frozen green beans, and three flavors of simmer sauces. Yum, yum, yum!

I make the excuse to go to TJ's whenever I am nearby -- "Oh, since I'm on that side of town anyway..." I can't help myself!
