Hi Kevin,

Thanks for clearing that up. I was wondering where these "other" people were going to come from! I look forward to helping other make a healthy choice to get screened.

Chris

Hi all,

Thanks for joining the team and posting your stories! In the next week or so, the SP administrators will invite members who are 50 or older to complete a questionnaire about colon cancer screening. Allison and I will invite those who are NOT up to date with screening to enroll in the study. Some of those members will be invited to join this private team. That's when you'll first interact with them as they read your stories. Allison and I will send them questionnaires 1 month and 6 months after the start of the study in order to see if their attitudes and knowledge about colon cancer screening have changed, and whether they have been screened since the start of the study.

I, too, look forward to encouraging others, however these stories are shared. I'm SO glad SP and others are looking for more ways to help others.

Knowing how important these screenings are and telling our stories will help others. Most of us have known someone who has suffered and many who have died from this disease that can be prevented with the screenings. We are all stressing how easy the procedure was and I know that will help tremendously. When I had my first procedure, I know I would have done it sooner if I could read these stories. Let's face it...10 years ago, it was still something that was rarely discussed. These discussions used to be so private and now they are commonplace. I read all the stories, too.

Kate hiw will others see these stories if this is a closed team? I don't recall if that was explained. I look forward to be able to help others get their screenings done.

I was the one who was working with Dr. Hwang to get these narratives pulled together. My experience with this project was very valuable and made me see how vital it is to do so.

It is my feeling that we will be helpful in encouraging others. After all, these procedures are life saving. I need to feel this way as I care so much about screenings in general. I've seen, first hand, how crucial they are in fighting disease and thwarting severe diagnoses, scary as both are.

I agree that the stories are varied, but so are the experiences of the people we are trying to encourage to get the screening done. The common thread about each of the stories is that everyone, at least with their latest colonoscopy, seemed to have a similar and relatively "pleasant" experience -- the worst part being the prep the day before. My hope is that people reading these stories can identify with one or more of us, feel comfortable contacting us for additional information and benefit by getting the screening done.
