I am not new to juicing, although I do it with the blender instead of extraction, but am very interested in also reading the posts here. I don't have a lot to contribute in the way of info and daily support right now. Just found this team and really love the links and old posts.

Moving in new directions.

anyone have some good tips on shopping? Safeway clearly is out of the question at $50 a day.

Welcome Back Kyrazy... I have read that even one day of juice fasting is better than none. It may not be a complete detox but I am sure your efforts are good. I think it need not be all or nothing but that's just my opinion.

I'm new to this team. I did my first juice fast a month ago. I'm starting my second one today. It might not be the healthiest way to do it but I'm going to fast up to Thanksgiving then eat light on Thanksgiving and back to fasting on Friday for a few more days. I too was looking for an active juice group.

I am the co-leader of the team, and have been on vacation for the past two weeks. This team is not popping as it was. I even posted a thread about such. We are here and I suspect that it will get busier during the holidays becasue last year, we have several juicefeasters.

I have a 20 year journey with juicing and ask away.

I have read that a number of people have problems with juicing root vegetables. I will check them out. I do have some books but sometimes it's nice to have personal recommendations. I do alternate day type juice fasting starting with dinner. I skip Sundays so I have consistency in my days. It works out to 3 days a week and I think I can maintain that. Not sure I could with longer fasts. Seems a lot of folks have trouble. I read that even one day of fasting is good for you as you give your digestion a rest and put in so many nutrients when juicing. At some point, may decide to increase it but for now I don't get tired of it.

juicing allows you to take in a lot more live nutrients than you could if you had to eat all that fiber. You can juice far more than would be practical and comfortable to eat. Juicing gives your digestion a break...even if for just a day so the nutrients in juice form go right into your system. No need to break them down. If you have all that fiber, your body has to work on digesting it. My focus is on both getting the concentrated nutrition as well as weight loss from overall less calories. Watching and planning what I eat every day drives me a bit crazy and I get lazy. I like the switch off with eating and juicing. Right now not sure I would want to juice every meal every day. This may change as I go on though. Also with this method I am not too worried about muscle breakdown...... Not all that knowledgeable though...

yeah I am not too worried about the sugar, i dont have any sugar issues, and despite the weight problem, I thankfully dont have any health issues. As far as calories go, I probably should be concerned, but I dont think I am going too high calorie wise. I have been using the nutribullet, and I will have about 4 or so nutribullets a day (I strain the pulp so that it is just juice). The nutribullet doesnt hold that much, and you mix the food with water so that it can blend well, so I really dont feel like I am taking in all that much. I think im taking in probably about 2 quarts of juice a day, and from what i've seen from youtube videos, people recommend 2-3 quarts a day, so i am on the lower end. But yeah, it probably is better to be conscious of the calories. I juiced some sweet potato (first time juicing this), lettuce and guava, and I felt like the sweet potato was very thick and creamy, so I only drank about half of the juice today, and will drink the rest tomorrow.

and yes, you will be successful, no if's about it! and I like your motto of being able to eat on thanksgiving and on special occasions as long as you are eating good every other day. I am curious though, why do you juice rather than blend and keep the fiber? I'm avoiding the fiber for the fast because from what i've seen its supposed to mimic a famine for your body if you dont have the fiber. Do you have the same result when juice fasting every other day?

Sounds like me...just don't make my mistake and do too many at once. I am on edge of type2 diabetes so I watch the sugar. Fruit and high glycemic veg juicings pack the sugar in very high. Be careful of that. Some say don't combine vegs and fruits except for green apple. I have done like I said...cucumber, celery and a pear and liked it very much. Mostly I do vegs. Carrots add sweetness. Be careful by making it something you like you are not defeating the purpose and adding too much sugar and calories. I don't feel I am up for fasting for days right now. Trying to combine fasting with healthy food choices. When I am successful (not "if") I will decrease the juicing days and/or just eat healthy....... Do you have any sugar issues?

i dont really have a routine yet, Im still playing with flavors. I this past weekend I bought a whole bunch of produce, along with a whole bunch of things I dont normally eat, like kale, swisschard, dandilion, and beets (I've learned I do NOT like beets). I bought this stuff thinking that they would taste better juice, but it is a process to get adjusted. At first I was trying to go hardcore, and was making my juices mostly vegetables, and the drinks have been hard to stomach and so I've softened a bit and decided add more fruits. I really havent liked many of the drinks I've made so far, but this afternoon I made a spinich, apple, grape juice, and it was SOO good. I really needed that because I've just been forcing juice down during my whole fast so far, but that was the first drink I really enjoyed. I will be making that again! I think im gonna start making my drinks about 50% veggies 50% fruit and then slowly increase the veggies when I get used to the flavor. and I think I need to use more veggies I am familiar with first like spinach, and lead into kale, rather than starting with kale, and more hardcore greens that I am not used to...

I wasn't following a recipe.....just dumped a lot in and then ate sauteed spinach and Swiss chard for dinner. The gurgling commenced. Usually my stomach is so nice and quiet when juicing. What do you juice? I am thinking I should juice one green thing, carrots and maybe a slice of green apple. I do love pear, cucumber and celery in the morning. Nice and light...

3-2-1...Hi! I watched that too. It was inspiring. I am kinda doing a different thing. I am sort of alternate day juicing. I start with a dinner juice fast followed by breakfast and lunch. You sleep 7 or so hours so that's a big chunk of it down. This is followed by preferably and mainly healthy eating within say 1200 or so calories. I am doing this to develop a healthier relationship with food. For now it is good for me as I don't get tired of juicing and it gives me a chance to plan my next meal. Haven't done too well with planning food on a daily basis or counting calories, points, etc. I feel like I obsess and then get sick of it. I skip Sundays so my days of fasting are consistent. I don't binge on eating time. Really I eat something every day with this method. I figure if I eat mostly good most of the time then an indulgence like Thanksgiving once in a while won't hurt. Before I was the opposite...mostly bad with few times of eating healthy. Now I am getting my veggies, etc. I do feel good mostly on juicing days except for yesterday when I combined too many things and paying the price today... I posted about that...

hmmmm, I dont have any suggestions for you, as I am new to juicing, but at least from what I've found things tend to taste better to me when i only use 2-3 ingredients. It may just be because I am not much of a cook and am not following any recipes...

yes, lets make it more active Jopalis! I recently joined the group as well looking for motivation and support and noticed that there isnt much activity on the group either. I recently watched fat, sick and nearly dead and was inspired to start a juice fast and am now finishing day 4. :) I plan to do 60 days, but its very tempting to quit early with thanksgiving coming up and a few personal social outings. Right now Im just taking it one day at a time. What about you? Are you juice fasting? hows it going?

Yeah! Glad to hear it. I had tried other groups and gotten no responses. I am looking for some juicing advice from a more experienced person. Kinda messed up (I think) what I juiced yesterday and paid the price last night and today. Too much of a good thing and too much variety I think. I used kale, green beans, clean nopales (cactus leaf), carrots, parsley, asparagus...... Staying close to home if you know what I mean without TMI...LOL. Can someone suggest to me how I should combine things for juicing?
