I try to add in all veggies but I always use an apple with whatever I juice; really sweetens the mix up a bit. I also found adding celery adds a fresh taste. I like to juice beets with all of my drinks too - just adds the prettiest color so it looks more pleasant to drink.

Even though I haven't done an actual juice feast, I used to green juice in the morning most every day. I followed Natalia Rose's recipe for Green Lemonade but I am improvising more now as I can't always get good produce around here...but in a nutshell...1 head Romain lettece (or celery) although I use both, 5-6 stalks of Kale (I usually use spinach as only one store has Kale), 6" cucumber, 1 lemon, 1-2 Fuji apples as they are sweeter and not as tart as Granny Smith, 1 inch Ginger, and cayenne pepper. Just FYI.

emoticon Hello... I wandered in this group hoping to pick up a little info to help me with my morning green juices and found more info in the 5 minutes it took me to read the page than I would have found after hours out there on the web. I was wondering about adding stuff to my juices that was anti inflammatory etc. I was shocked to read the difference in cinnamon and went to see what I had on my shelf and sorry to say, it has NO nutritional information on the label at all! Guess I will be replacing that before I add cinnamon to anything...
I am so pleased that I joined the group....Thank you all !

Always get granny smith/ green apples. They are fantastic for green juices and really help to cover up the unpleasant taste. The ginger is a good option too, but I feel a piece the sice of a thumb is a bit much, it just depends on how much juice you are making. It's a bit spicy so be careful :) Ginger goes really well with sweet juices, like apple and carrot. For greens though, deffo try the apple. You can also squeeze some lime juice in and a tad bit of raw honey. The apple is by far the best though. :)

If you like ginger trying adding ginger to the juice. Start with juicing a 1 inch or "thumb size" piece and see how you like it. Doing that helped me. Apples usually help with taste too. I didn't peel cucumbers. I only peeled citrus and beets. If you use beets, I would recommend peeling them to improve taste. If you use apples, don't juice the seeds.

Does anyone have any suggestions to adding something to my "green" jucies to make them taste better. Mine are tasting very bitter and I have not found one I like yet. (it's been a week of trying) Should I be peeling my cucumbers and things? Any tips on making them taste better?
All suggestions will be appreciated :)
Thanks in advance.

Awesome I will cut out the chia seeds for now as I am really trying to juice feast. I am glad they are so multipurpose and I can't wait to try the banana pudding thing after I am done. =) Thank you all for the treasure trove of knowledge!

Here is something to remember, chia seeds are NOT recommended during juice feast, but if you just adding them to you regular diet they are awesome. I like to make pudding with them, by using banana milk (bananas blended with water) or coconut milk (fresh coconut water with a bit of young coconut flesh) and add chia seeds, let them absorb the fluids. They taste a lot like tapioca pudding this way :)

I bought a whole bunch of chia seeds. Anyone know about those and if they should be limited or how much to put into my green juice? If I should use at all or once or twice a day?

Make sure that the cinnamon you are using is ceylon cinnamon and not Chinese or cassia. Ceylon is the only one that does not contain coumarin. I just read some research on that and if I can locate it, I'll edit my post and add the link.

I use garlic, ginger and cayenne the most. I keep forgetting about cinnamon!

I'm also going to start using E3Live to see if I can boost my energy levels a bit.

Thanks - do you mind sharing your V-8 recipe. I also add cayenne pepper to juice as well even the sweet ones. Cayenne benefits are many and for me, it is a great mucous buster (gross, huh):

This herb is a great food for the circulatory system in that it feeds the necessary elements into the cell structure of the arteries, veins and capillaries so that these regain the elasticity of youth again, and the blood pressure adjusts itself to normal. It rebuilds the tissue in the stomach and heals the stomach and intestinal ulcers; in equalizing the blood circulation, Cayenne produces natural warmth in your body; and in stimulating the peristaltic motion of the intestines, it aids in assimilation and elimination.

Cayenne regulates the flow of blood from the head to the feet so that the pressure is equalized; it influences the heart immediately, then gradually extends its effects to the arteries, capillaries, and nerves (the frequency of the pulse is not increased, but is given more vigor).

Human circulation; it is warming; dilating; specific for varicose veins; equalizes the blood pressure in the arterial and venous system; equalizes blood pressure instantly actually.

Cayenne is useful in alleviating allergies, muscle cramp, improving digestion, gives more pep and energy, and helps wound healing with minimal scar tissue.

Cayenne is a counter-irritant; it brings blood to the surface and allows the toxins to be taken away.

I have a warehouse of books on juicing. For the most part, I would just juice, however, with health issues and research, I have started adding spice, herbs, etc to my juices and it has been a wonderful experience.

Here are some to try, and what I have found that they do, I will be adding more to the list, but I want you to feel free to add as well:

Cinnamon -Health Boost: Can lower blood sugar, triglycerides, LDL, and total cholesterol in people with type 2 diabetes. Aim for one-fourth to one-half teaspoon of cinnamon twice a day.

Turmeric -Health Boost: Contains curcumin, which can inhibit the growth of cancer cells. Try to have 500 to 800 milligrams a day, says Bharat Aggarwal, PhD, a professor of cancer medicine at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.

Rosemary -Health Boost: Stops gene mutations that could lead to cancer and may help prevent damage to the blood vessels that raise heart attack risk.

Garlic - Health Boost: Destroys cancer cells and may disrupt the metabolism of tumor cells, says Karen Collins, RD, nutrition advisor to the American Institute for Cancer Research. "Studies suggest that one or two cloves weekly provide cancer-protective benefits."

Paprika -Health Boost: Contains capsaicin, whose anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects may lower the risk of cancer (also found in cayenne and red chili peppers). There's no specific recommended dose, but moderation is probably the best way to go.

Ginger - Health Boost: Can decrease motion sickness and nausea; may also relieve pain and swelling associated with arthritis. Doses used in clinical trials range from 500 to 2,000 mg of powdered ginger. (A quarter-size piece of fresh root contains about 1,000 mg.) More than 6,000 mg can cause stomach irritation. Ginger can also hinder blood clotting, so if you're about to have surgery or are taking blood thinners or aspirin, be sure to talk to your doctor first.

Oregano -Health Boost: A USDA study found that, gram for gram, oregano has the highest antioxidant activity of 27 fresh culinary herbs.
