I found that the autopause kept causing the app to pause when I'm walking...I probably wasn't going fast enough. It doesn't seem to be an issue when I'm biking.

The Tech Bishop’s Guide to Mobile Sports Tracking
Posted on 03/19/2012 11

These days we expect a modern day smartphone to be capable out of the box and expendable with a wide range of third party applications that utilize that various bits of hardware that are fast becoming standard on many phones. A jack of all trades if you will but a master of all. A category of apps that is very popular is the fitness app category, particularly the distance tracking apps. With basic usage these apps function as digital log books but with automatic data collection and output analysis. Delve deeper however and by simply using the built in GPS reciever and accelerometer, these apps can provide the user with an astounding level of output and analysis that even a coach might struggle to replicate. Of course that is all up to the user, how much of this data the pay attention to, and what they want to do with it.

I use my trusted Nokia, on this unfortunately there are only basic features for Endomondo. I use a 3rd party Interval app. But I'm thinking to buy a cheap android phone, just to use for the workouts with Endomondo.

Why did you need to turn off the Auto Pause? It's not accurate? (I don't have it on my phone.)

I really like the interval trainer capabilities on Endomondo. I use the Pro Android version. I like to run/walk and the interval trainer allows me to put in exactly what I want for a workout.

I'd love to buy a compatible blue-tooth HRM, but since I already have a HRM that uses a wrist strap, I'm going to have to pass on getting a new one for now. I'm such a geek when it comes to tracking my workouts.

I've played around with MapMyFitness and AllSports, but I keep coming back to Endomondo. Like other people have said, I have had to turn off the auto pause when running, but I use it for biking on organized rides where I take longer stops at the rest stops. I'd also like to get a holder for my bike.

I've had the issue with the workout pause/resume before and all I did was disabled it in the settings. Frankly I really don't need it anyway unless I'm doing a century, tri or marathon. The app still keeps track of your mileage accurately. I guess they just haven't perfected it yet specially for the BB. I can't wait to get rid of mine anyway and get an Android.

I too would like to know what about the new app you like. Of course probably not availble on Blackberry, seems most things aren't! I had the worst time tracking my walk today, in the midst of walking I kept hearing "workout is paused, workout resumed", It tracked what I know to be a 4 1/2 mile walk as a 3 mile walk. harrump!!

I too am curious about what you like. I have never had a problem with the endomondo tracker on my phone (blackberry) and am fairly happy with it even though it does not take into account the intensity (i.e. -- heart rate) of the workout when calculating calories.

Is the new app better at tracking calories? Does it have more features? How about the community? Sometimes the endomondo community gets too wrapped up in the challenges and some people start calling others cheats when they don't wind up first. i always chalk it up to immaturity and ego but it does get annoying.

what about the new app do you like better? I am curious as to what other things are out there, but I will always be a die-hard Endomondo fan!

Ok, has anyone else been having enough trouble with Endomondo lately to force them to find another option? Unfortunately I have. I don't know if it's because my Android phone is over a year old, or whether it's purely a performance issue ... but ... I sought out, and found an option that I am starting to like better than Endomondo, and I never thought I would say that.

I've been using Trimble Outdoors (also a free application) for the past week or so, and I'm LOVING it.

Check out one of my trips I logged using the application ...
