I sent my Congressman a nice little note telling him what I think of his nay vote on VAWA. I am sure it will make no difference to him but he is yet another reason I do not Republican.

Shirley, that's why we need VAWA..it makes violence against women a Federal issue.

There are laws against beating anyone male or female but I think often the judges are. at fault. They don't support the laws.Where we are able to vote for judges we need to vote for ones who punish people who do this crime to the full extent of the law. emoticon

Very happy! On to marriage equality!

Val...Hmmm...138 against it. Any of them Republicans? Any women among those repub's?

Just looked it up...still trying to find a full list, but no surprise...Michelle Bachman voted against it. What is wrong with Minnesotans? First she made no mistakes and would change nothing in her bid for President during the primary circus......SHE LOST in the primary and after all her gaffs was still elected by her state to represent them!!! What is wrong with this woman? I mean seriously. She's batsh!t crazy!

Bridie...just saw your last post. Can you post a link with all those who voted against it. Thx!

I have every single name of those who voted against it, and thereby against American women everywhere..an the names of those who chickened out and didn't vote at all. To me that's the same thi9ng..a negative vote without the prejudicial onus an actual negative vote would generate. They are all on our defeat at the polls list..every darned one of them..

VAWA passed by bipartisan vote for 18 years until 2011 when it was allowed to expire. We have been working ever since not only to see it renewed, but to expand it to include all women..The bipartisan fight was on at that point..the Senate passed an all inclusive Act protecting all women and giving them recourse if assaulted..Native American women, gay women, immigrant women, the House GOP then tried to exclude those groups, saying it wasn't necessary to specify or include them, that was defeated..and today the House passed the Senate's all inclusive Act. We are good for another five years. Sex trafficking is also included in the expanded VAWA now...as it should be. if that's not violence against women, what is? If we are ever to have any pretense of leading the world in humanitarian treatment, respect for women, and protection of them from abuse, we first have to take care of our own. All of them. I do not want my immigrant neighbor to have no recourse should her Dh beat her, I just because she isn't a citizen and they are over here on his green card, don't want another friend to have her jaw wired shut, her teeth knocked out, her uterus removed cuz it ruptured due to repeated kicks from a big man's work boots, or her beautiful eyes blackened and swollen shut while he gets a slap ion the wrist and walks free. Never again..
