Ceelee has an excellent point........

"Perhaps God is putting all of these lazy, smelly people before you as a test of faith for you...not to judge them wanting but to show them love and compassion."

Though of us who have persevered through hard work, luck or pluck have no idea why other people do not appear to share the determination we hold dear. We have no clue how they were brought up or if anyone cared to teach them hygiene, manners or healthy habits. We aren't born knowing these things...someone else imparts that information.

Someone has to have the compassion to help, to show these people another way if they haven't learned this from their elders. If we don't show compassion...what are we then?

I think too many times we think we can tell people how we think they could improve their lives, and the frustration sets in when they either don't comprehend or just totally ignore us. We all want a better world and an even better planet. It's not going to be easy.

I'm sure you're probably right.I do need to change my attitude.I get frustrated.I know it's much better to encourage and tell people how myself and my eldest son even more so than I showed people how they can improve.I consider you all friends.I just get so frustrated.I want to see a better world and even planet.I try to be green and even love the animals.Peace!! emoticon

But Shirley...don't you see the irony here? When you accuse "the lazy ones who don't try" and mention all the "candy, cake and soda" and the smelly children and adults...these are all judgements. You mentioned the social work you did and "the few people" who were deserving of help...a judgement on your part. The rest...one would assume most people, since only a few made it to your list of deserving help...the rest you "wanted to slap"...you judged to be working the system.

It appears the only one here acting as judge and jury is you. Maybe you forgot God's warning: "Judgement is mine sayeth the Lord..."

Perhaps God is putting all of these lazy, smelly people before you as a test of faith for you...not to judge them wanting but to show them love and compassion.

My DH is a Viet Nam vet..he got the GI Bill for college. I am aware they are still giving Pell Grants..just considerably fewer of them, and with added restrictions on how much, how long one may receive them, and on who now qualifies.
Hell isn't part of my belief system, nor is ill wishing, so I certainly would not wish anyone there.

As far as Pell grants they are still being given as my SIL recieved one yesterday and starts school in Mar.These are grants for college.Which are free but of course must be paid back.HE had no problem getting one.Of course he is a Nam vet.Navy an aircraft carrier was his duty.Perdition is another name for Hell.Everyone seems angry because unless ill in someway I don't think people should recieve food stamps year after year. They should have to work at something.I always have and my children have. Not just because I had too.My family is the same except for 3 lazy ones and I was accused of hateing people and worse.I don't hate anyone.I want them to work and keep theirselves and children clean. It doesn't touch me personally exactly but it keeps esculateing.People need to take a stand somewhere.I am glad to help people short term but it seems to be continual.

Glad many of you aren't God as you would like to be so you could send me straight to perdition and oh yes since I'm Christian I must be perfect but if I were perfect I couldn't post here as I'd already be in Heaven.Scripture says he/she who doesn't work doesn't eat and oh yes since I'm Christian I'm blind and can't see candy, cake, soda and all the other things in the grocery baskets and I don't see the dirty ragged children who smell bad because they aren't bathed and the adults smell too.Cleanliness is next to godliness or is i?..I must be deaf and hear no comments or gasp!! I'm judging again.I'm not perfect just forgiven.I am supposed to be blind, dumb and unable to smell.I mustn't think.Just walk around like a zombie.Excuse me but I can still compute.I just expect adults to work and children to learn. How shocking! I actually worked to better myself. How odd of me.Don't tell me none of you worked in your life.I suppose someone just gave you all you have or you inherited it all.How nice for you little judges.Have a great day now. emoticon

Bravo Bridie. It always amazes me that those who shout their Christian values here, there and everywhere, rarely show us the true spirit of Jesus' teachings.

I;'m not God, nor am I walking in anyone's moccassins but my own, so It's not my place to judge who is needy or who is not, who is deserving and who is not. It always amazes me when Christians do that.. Jesus healed the sick, fed the hungry, and loved everyone..He never once made the kind of value judgements I so often hear from his present day "followers".

I am glad to see people who are trying get foodstamps. It's the lazy ones who don't try that burn me up.I don't call any human an animal unless they are molesters, rapists, that type and by the they're worse than animals,Animals protect their young.Enough said on the subject and I did do a small amount of social work after I stopped nursing.A few people were VERY deserving of help but most I wanted to slap. Were experts at working the system.I had to quit couldn't take it.I will discuss this no further. emoticon

Not to mention - while you're getting this "free education" (which I see no evidence for) - how are you and your kids going to eat?

Maybe... food stamps?

But everyone on food stamps is a lazy, good-for-nothing animal, right?

emoticon There is a way out of poverty. One you can get a FREE education where you can make a living wage. Two you can work 2 jobs as our friend William does.He can't get the free ed as he isn't a citizen yet.Correct me if I'm wrong about that last William and by the way I am aware of those who work and still get food stamps. That is fine. They cut them if they work though and surprise I don't think they should cut theirs because they are trying.I know 3 individuals personally well who cheat the government. regularly..Why don't I report them? Some family members know I know and would be very angry with me.You can like people and not approve their lifestyle.I talked to them a few times and it's like speaking to a brick wall.I don't rat anyone out unless they do murder. And No I don't know anyone who does that.By the way when I talk to these people they laugh and say they know a lot of others who do the same.I will say no more about it except the government needs to investigate people..

Shirley, can you answer a single one of those questions with a fact?

Or are you going to continue to dehumanize anyone who can't afford basic living needs so you can look down on them?

Or are you too afraid to find out that 41% of the households had jobs? That only 17% of all food stamps recipients also get welfare (TANF)?

Or would you rather continue believing that anyone who needs assistance is an animal, a lesser being, and lower than you. That they deserve nothing but death and poverty because their minimum wage job barely pays for child care, let alone food and rent?

Excuse me!!! Maybe that didn't pertain to me but if it did I never said the poor should be castereteed.I said child molesters should be and worse.I HATE them.No one else! They are worse than rats and snakes.I personally know for a fact myself several who won't even hunt a decent job and I said they had to gasp!!!!! work even if it's picking up trash for the local or Fed.government.That didn't pertain to physically or mentally disabled but guess what I know several of those who do work.GASP!!!!! GASP!!!! They have a little pride.I was desparetly poor at one time in my life so much so that I LOST weight in my last pregnancy.I got out and worked.Bent over and picked up missed corn in the fields so I could sell it at the local feed mill.I didn't get food stamps. There were none available.I got sick of it so I went to school and got a nurse's license and workrd until after 70 years of age fulltime. The government paid for my schooling because my HB was in the service for 13 years FIGHTING for his country and oh yes the government will pay for college for peope now and even give money for living exspenses.Absolutely no reason a person can't WORK if they want too.Emphasis on WANT TOO !!!!! emoticon

So, anyone who can't feed their family should starve and be castrated, huh? How very "Christian" of you. Can you point out the Bible verses that advocate that stance? I must have missed that lesson in Sunday School.

While you're researching that, here's a few more questions:

What percentage of the federal budget goes toward food stamps programs compared to the percentage dedicated to killing people?

What is the average length of time a family collects food stamps?

What is the maximum amount of time an able, working-age adult without children can receive food stamps?

What percentage of families receiving food stamps have no employment income? Of those, how many are NOT disabled or elderly? How many are minors receiving direct benefits?

What is the average food stamp benefit received by a family of four and how does that compare to average food costs?

You right wingers do love your "welfare queen" stereotypes. But insinuating that the poor are nothing more than animals is low even for you. I suppose it's easier to hate if you can dehumanize them first, isn't it?

WILLAM - I don't think neutering is the answer, either. After CEELEE wrote down all the names of organizations that "helped" animals in the United States, I just pointed out that most of those institutions required the animal be neutered prior to outplacement. I also mentioned it was a pretty stiff penalty (no pun intended).

To be politically correct, we can't just focus on castration of the male animals, that would be so Not PC. We have to include those girl animals in there too. I'm not aware of the term for "radical hysterectomy" for animals - I just wanted to make sure we stay as PC as possible (of course, my definition of PC is different than the left definition, which is Politically Correct. My definition means Pretty Confused.

Political Correctness violates my rights of free speech and places me in an inferior position from which to communicate. The "N" word is one example. I grew up in Southern California and the word nigger was used to describe a person of any race who refused schooling, preferred drugs over food, lived in squalor and took no responsibility for raising the children resulting from casual, unprotected intercourse. These days, Negros (those of Negroid blood) may call each other a "nigger", but it's a hanging offense for someone of another group (Caucasian, Native American, Hispanic, Asian, etc.) to use the word. Yet I can be called "Honky" or "Gringo", both MEANT to be pejorative epithets and I am supposed to turn the other cheek.

Maybe "Arf" should mean the same for all sub-species of the Human race.

Humans are better than animals". I beg to disagree. I know dogs way better than lots of people that I had the chance to get in contact with.

Castration? I do believe some people should get it mandatory. For instance:

A lot of people on foodstampa aren't even job hunting.Unless they can prove physical or medical disability they should be required to work.If they can't PROVE they are at least looking they should be requireed to say pick up trash along highways, cut grass or weeds, clean government buildings etc.and paid in foodstamps or housing vouchers etc.I bet they (many) anyway would find a job in a hurry.Casteration or spaying is for animals not humans.Humans are better than animals even if they are lazy. emoticon

Popeye, I do think things are a bit more complicate than just castrate everybody on food stamps. On the other hand, I do think that in certain cases, mandatory castration should be applied, but I beleive that would be a subject for another thread.

Well the spark gremlins are at work.Wrote a blog and it disappeared into outer space.Anyway from my experience you imitate what you see.We are all workers (maybe even workaholics) but we did not have foodstamps etc.And were better off for it.Foodstamps should be temporary maybe a year unless physical or mental disability can be proven.I am not saying let people starve but if they are healthy and won't work provide soup kitchens etc. emoticon

The last time I checked, adopting an animal from these groups requires that they be neutered.

You missed a bunch if you were trying to overawe me with sheer numbers. What, PETA doesn't count? Then there is the American Wild Horse Preservation Campaign (a subset of which is Save The Wild Burro's Association), Saving America's Mustangs Foundation, The Mountain Lion Foundation, etc. Then there are organizations like Save the Water Voles whose proposal is to trap and kill all of the wild mink so the water voles will live - of course that clashes with PETA's goal of saving minks.

There is also a Very limited amount of time Rescued animals can be held before they are put down. Pretty radical concepts, comparing animals to humans - but if you think neutering or death is best ......

Besides, the majority of the organizations are "rescue oriented". They don't raise the animals to expect or demand entitlements.

Just finished doing some preliminary interviews for a secretary to transition into administrative assistant within 1 year for a small company with rapid growth The minority applicant had no experience but she did have an associates degree, a strong, professional appearance and a seemingly positive attitude. I recommended her to the owners for a second interview.

They liked her, offered her a job starting at $36,000 with quarterly raises and two weeks paid vacation, leading to an Admin Asst position at $58,000 after one year. She declined, stating she could do better using all of her welfare benefits and returning back to school.

The one minority owner was shocked and asked his minority wife to call the young lady and talk to her. She called and talked to the applicant and received the same response. The minority partner briefed his two partners and me that the young lady was under the impression she should be starting at $45-50K.

They decided to change the interview process so that I brought up the pay and benefits.

I interviewed two additional applicants and discussed wages, vacations, paid holidays, etc., plus the two weeks (+/-) vacation when the company shut down from Christmas Eve to the Monday after New Years Day that was at half pay (for staying home with their families during the holidays). The one young lady didn't want to be any more than a secretary, and declined a final interview. The second young woman (relatively young in relation to me), had been out of the job force for eight years. She had left an Admin Asst job from downtown KC to have a family and make sure the family had bonded as well as possible before she went back to work. She accepted the final interview, was offered the job and accepted it. She lived in the suburb where the company was located and would not have to fight two total hours of traffic going into KC and coming back out.

The only negative I got while checking her references was from her former boss, a VP. He told me, "Well, it's probably no what you're hoping to hear, but she didn't make much of an impact while here. I know you'll have to tell her that her references didn't check out, and I was the one who gave you the negative reference. Then, before she leaves, if you could do me a favor and have her call me, I'll do everything in my power to beat your salary offer and get her some sort of mileage to come back down town - really, I was happy for her and sad for myself. It's been eight years. I'm working on my third assistant and none of them have come close to her. She would read my mind! I'd ask for her to prepare an update on a project, and she would hand it to me an hour later. She said she thought I would need it so she just did it. Tell her I'll triple her salary!'

I spoke to the owners I was contracted with, and all three told me to let her know of a higher salary position at her old workplace. They couldn't be responsible for denying someone a chance to work for a salary significantly better for her family then they could afford.

I told her of the conversation. She blushed a bit, but said they'd have to quintuple her previous salary to get her to drive back down town any more.

When I picked up my check for the recruiting contract, I marked down two things I have never seen in my entire working career. I company with the moral fortitude to do something right (let her know of a higher paying job), and an applicant who would rather work for a fair pay range and not drive 50+ miles to triple it.

Just FYI, in the KC market, secretarial positions starting @ 36K are in the mid-range of experienced persons for that position. Starting pay for Admin Assistants with experience run between $45-$48K. Of course, with a little shopping, you can get an 1800 sq' home on a third of an acre with an in-ground pool for $125,000, too.

Tsk, tsk! Did you forget just how many animal (the four legged variety) organizations are operating in the world specifically to help animals when they are in need of help. Old doc Pavlov proved his Behavior Theory by working with "dumb" animals.

Our government is trying to Disprove that theory with people. I personally don't think they are getting the scientific evidence to support their outlook.

I was going to post this with Irony in the title, but I didn't want anyone to get confused - even though there absolutely is irony here.

The Food Stamp program is administered by the U. S. Department of Agriculture. They proudly report that they distribute free meals and Food Stamps to over 46 million people on an annual basis.

Meanwhile, the National Park Service, run by the Department of the Interior, asks us “Please Do Not Feed the Animals”. Their stated reasoning for this policy being that …..

“The animals will grow dependant on the handouts, and then they will never learn to take care of themselves”.

We're talking about "Learned Behavior" here, so don't anyone get silly with "Well, wild animals aren't human", because all humans are animals.

From birth, humans are both teachers and students. When I was still a bachelor, a very good friend and his wife brought home their first child - a little girl. I brought a gift for mom and a gift for baby the day after they had returned home from the hospital.

I thought the learning process was amazingly fast. In the first 24 hours, the baby had taught Mom and/or Dad to jump simply by squalling. After a few weeks, I realized "I" had been taught that there was a distinct difference in the incoherent sounds she could make.

One sound meant she was hungry; another meant there was something in her diaper and it wasn't comfortable; yet a third meant "I'm still hungry but I have gas in my stomach"; the fourth one I identified was, "I'm pist and there isn't a darn thing you can do about it".

After my first son was born, I also learned to differentiate between other screams, such as "I want out of here and whoever named this thing a "play pen" better not let me catch him - I'll gnaw his ankle off" and the one I called "I'm just warming up. I'm warning you ....."

One scream caused me to leap up and head for the nursery at a full run - my wife had a 15' head start and I still beat her to his bed. It was so strong everything else in my brain shut down except getting to him even if I had to run through a wall to do it. My DW taught me that particular scream was for "I am hurt and/or I am terrified".

That specific tone must have a reciprocal on a parent's DNA. Fingernails across a blackboard don't even come close to getting a response.

I apologize once again for being chatty. At least I don't think I've started repeating very many stories this year, have I?
