Google Chia Fresca -- it's a drink, and can be either delicious or disgusting, depending upon how you handle the jelly-like texture of the swelled seeds. :) I've made hot tea with them and they're not so gelatinous that way.

I did read that it was 2 Tablespoons that gave you all you needed. Is it really 4?

Well,

There is actually a book as well as several web sites that give you recipes as well as full information on the seeds. The book I like the best is Chia, The complete guide to the ultimate superfood by Wayne Coates, PhD. He has all the information you need as well as recipes. He also has a web site with more recipes too.

I tend to like the more scientific books that give me the cold hard facts. His is very readable as well though so you should do fine with it. I found the book on Barnes & Nobel for my Nook as well as a hard copy in our local Sprouts store. It should be on Amazon as well.

Have a fun read.

I adore my chia seeds. I've had to stop them because I'm having knee surgery and I need to be off the Omega-3s so I don't bleed to bad. emoticon

I actually use them to have an intake of 6000 mg of Omega-3s per my doctors orders. They are tasty and have complete protein which is great when you are eating vegan as I am. It takes care of two things at once with only 60 calories per Tbs!

I put them in everything from salads, stews, soups, sandwiches, puddings, as eggs, the sky's the limit. There are some very amazing recipes on the net. When you cook with them just remember don't use high heat. That gets rid of all the goodness. In cooked items I usually put them in the bowl with the stew/soup etc after I cook the meal. When using them as eggs just remember to use low heat.

They truly are incredible and underrated in my humble opinion.

Love Chia Seeds! I make a wonderful lemon chia seed pancakes. They have no eggs and no oil in them and they are wonderful! I also love them in overnight oatmeal and chile.

Thank you for the all the info on Chia seeds! I have some and have been using them sporadically, but I really need to be more consistent. Ha, well I need to be more consistent with staying on my eating plant too, but that's another story.

I joined this Team a few weeks ago; been kinda hanging in the background though. I've had to re-kickstart after being quite sloppy for the last weeks. So I am going to be taking the chia seeds steadily and see what happens.

One thing I do notice when I do use them: ENERGY!!! Anyone else notice that?

I eat Chia seeds every day! They're a great source for Omega-3's as well as many other nutrients. I first discovered them when I was making a recipe found on Pinterest: "Summer Oatmeal"....a cold, fruity oatmeal that you make ahead the night before and put in the fridge overnight. Lately, however, I have been eating about 1 1/2 - 2 teaspoons in my regular hot oatmeal each morning. I put a half dozen frozen strawberries and the chia seeds in the bowl with 1/2 cup of oats... then microwave it for about 3-4 minutes. The seeds swell up and give the mixture a creamy texture. I think I'd have a hard time NOT having them in the oatmeal now! My first time I bought them at Walgreens for $17.99. The second bag I found at a little health food store in town for $11.99. Both packages were 1 lb. Since I'm eating only a few teaspoons a day... they last a while. Try them! You'll like them!

They are kinda fun to eat. It's a food that keeps on giving.

First of all they have a very mild nutty/buttery taste like was mentioned. A nice crunch but it will get hidden in your teeth and you can keep munching them for quite a while.

The outside of the seed swells to 12 times the size of the seed and makes a mucus kind of coating. So make sure to drink an extra 8 ozs of water per tablespoon. Because of this it really helps you to feel full quicker. You can have it just in the water about 20-30 minutes before a meal.

Very high in Fiber

Helps keep you hydrated. For those who have a problem or don't like drinking water.

It will help your hair grow, shine and get stronger; nails grow and skin plump up more; as well as those of you who dye your hair it helps the hair hold the color in longer!

They have a complete protein and do not need to have anything else to make it bioavailable or complete.

If you are eating something not so good add some Chia for a nutrition boost and to encourage you to eat less of it.

Extremely high in Omega-3's which everyone can use and needs.

Full panel of amino acids.

Other minerals and Vitamins that most other seeds or grains don't have.

You can munch them just as they are, drink plenty of water, or grind them up in a coffee grinder to add as a flour. You can also pre make the flour and a gel of it. The compounds within it will not allow it to go rancid!

If you cook with it keep it at 370 degrees or less. It will degrade at higher temperatures.

It's been extremely interesting reading about it. There is a Chia book out that has tons of recipes and information. Every study shows that you need to get up to 4 Tablespoons to have the full nutritional effect for weight loss and everything else.

Well this is just a highlight of what I have read so far. lol I hope it helps.

I enjoy chia seeds stirred into yogurt. If I make pizza at home, I will sprinkle them on the sauce and bake as well, you won't even notice them.

I have tasted them plain and they have a mild nutty/buttery taste.

no, I find they're to hard to come by. we used to have an herb shop here in our town that sold them but for a higher price than Flax seeds. However she got hit by a train and the shop is closed. I never get around to ordering online because I hate to pay so much for shipping.

I use Chia seeds. I do not eat them, I put them in smoothies. They are suppose to be better nutrition than other seeds and unlike flax seed, do not need to be ground. The one thing I do not like about them is that when they get wet, they swell up and stick to your teeth. I drink my smoothies with a straw which helps some.

I have just found out more about Chia seeds. Yes, you can make cool statues with them. The thing I'm very impressed with is that they have the most complete nutrition of anything I've read about, tastes fine and truly helps you lose weight as well as regulate your innards!

Does anyone else eat them?
