I never heard of that tea I will have to try it out although I am picky about my tea. I don't like some of the herbal ones.

I bought my PB2 from Walmart - it's in with the peanut butter. It's fabulous!!! It has 45 calories for 2 TBS (large tablespoons). I think I could actually settle for 1 TBS on my toast. It actually smells and tastes like fresh peanuts!!! Definitely worth the money and you don't even have to worry about it turning acid.

PB2 is a powdered peanut butter that tastes very real when you mix it with water! It also comes in pb chocolate flavor. Good part? 40 small calories per serving! Hardly any fat and ALL the flavor!

CAROL - - Be sure to let them know that you're a diabetic (periodic hypoglycemic episodes)and I'm sure they'll give you some. If they don't offer you some you can always ask for some extras for your meal. (LOL) I've done that before too. I try to carry one or two of them in my purse.

JUDSTERF, I didn't know about the free honey from KFC. Next time I go there for the grilled chicken, I'll ask for it. Don't know either if the KFC's here will give them out free, but I'll find out.

CAROL - - Thanks Carol. I try to keep a single packet of honey (KFC gives them out for diabetics free - at least the one here does - upon asking for some) with me when out. The last episode happened 1 1/2 hours after eating a good breakfast so it was quite a shocker for me when it happened.

JUDSTERF, I sympathize with you having the low blood sugar problem. I am a diabetic and also have to be careful that my blood sugar does not get too low. When it does, it wipes out all of the hard work of sticking to my abstinent food plan for the day....because it triggers me binge eat.
It must be discouraging for you when your blood sugar drops with no warning at all. It is an excellent plan that you are now eating your meals often. Also another good idea is to keep some kind of portable snack in your purse just in case you get into trouble when you are out and about.

Hi everyone. I'm new to this team. I'm a diabetic also but I'm hypoglycemic with no warnings which means I have to eat often - - such as every 2 hours. It can make losing weight very trying at times - -lots of times. I'm finding, though, that the more I eat the more I seem to lose. Even vacuuming seems to lower my BS - - down to 55 the other day with no warning until it got down to that point. It gets quite discouraging when you need to exercise but you get that fear that your BS will drop with no warning again whenever you do anything. I like the things I've been reading on this team day (all 3 pages of posts) but just so afraid to try different things for the fear of it happening while I'm out and about. Sometimes I wish I was hyperglycemic instead of hypoglycemic.

Beth - - what did you start doing for exercise when you first started exercising.

Judy

That is great advice! I spent many years stopping and starting diets with the same result: standing still or gaining weight.
I am doing so much better trying to make this a lifestyle change. I still have to fight that tendency to want to blow the whole day off if I make one mistake but I know that doesn't make any sense thanks to SP,

at dinner, eat your salad first and try to make a different one every day. Spinach or field greens or tossed or fruit or garden veggie - begin with a large plate of it and you will be able to eat smaller amounts of the rest of the meal. I try to include 1-2 oz. of protein in the salad, too.

Learn to want a healthy lifestyle. Look at magazines, books, anything that promotes the lifestyle of health. Get a really positive picture of the cute athletic clothes you could be wearing or yourself making good decisions and focus on those thoughts. You actually have to embrace the lifestyle you want.

Raw Veggies, fruit, yummy fill your plate with these first or make raw veggie and fruit smoothie, try not to add anything to it unless it is flaxseed...the tast may take a little getting use to... if you find a need for additional flavor add 1/2 cup vanilla yogurt or nonfat milk

Hi everyone,
I just wanted to share this awesome story that i read about eating clean. I hope that you really enjoy it.

Eating Clean To Lose 100 Pounds, With 100 To Go

By +Rachel Berman on Jun 10, 2013 10:00 AM in Success Stories

Ken was 435 pounds, depressed, and could not walk without pain. Following a visit to his doctor where he was diagnosed with diabetes and high cholesterol, he knew it was time for a complete "paradigm shift". After doing intense nutrition research, he began eating clean and changing his life, losing 100 pounds in the process.

Now halfway through his weight loss journey, Ken, AKA kmarsullo, contacted us through our Share Your Story feature and provided the following answers to our questionnaire.

1. What prompted you to begin this weight loss journey? Did you have an "Aha!" moment?

Losing significant weight in a short period of time was nothing new to me. But never had I embraced healthy, clean eating nor a physical exercise regimen. I went to the doctor, just to find out that I had just developed diabetes, and my good and bad cholesterol were poor. My electrolytes were not in balance. I have a wife of 15 years, two boys (15 and 13), and literally realized that I was slowly killing myself with lack of nutrition and consumption of fat, sugar, sodium and everything else. I watched the movie "Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead". My scenario was very much like the truck driver that Joe Cross met in that movie. He is an inspiration.

2. What other "diets" (programs, products, plans, or services) had you tried in the past?

I have never tried standard diet programs, other than starvation, simply lower calorie foods (not nutritious), and aiming for a caloric deficit. I did lose 72 lbs years ago to win a bet. At the time, I was hiking in Sedona but I "rewarded" myself with huge amounts of fast food, eating out 6-8 times a week or more.

3. Please describe how you reached your weight loss goal. What changes did you make to your usual diet, activity, lifestyle, and attitude? Did you implement any other strategies besides Calorie Count? What was the most important change?

When I started my weight loss journey, I knew that it was time for a lifestyle change, a "paradigm switch" rather than a diet. I intensely researched diet and fitness for 2-3 hours a day. I started walking. When I started at first, I could not walk two minutes without being out of breath.

I started consuming tons of leafy greens, cruciferous vegetables, whey protein, no red meat, pork, processed lunch meat an attempt at 30% of my total caloric consumption. I added high amounts of dietary fiber, 35-45g a day. I was going to juice, but had diabetes, thus it would have been high glycemic, so I blended my fruits and veggies into a thick shake. I added chia, flax, and wheat germ to the shakes for omega 3s and huge amounts of nutrients. Despite all of these changes, I still was able to eat clean and consume 2300-2500 calories a day.

I weighed portions out until it became second nature. The first five weeks I did not have one sweet, did not eat out or have one fast food meal, but after that added one “choice day" (I hate the word "cheat" because it insinuates that you are doing something undermining). I ate whatever I wanted on that one day a week. I became stronger and stronger, slowly! My attitude changed- I was positive, I started building a business selling the best west coast albacore tuna. For exercise, I started walking around the complex more and more, began swimming, and practicing resistance training.

The most important change was realizing that everything is choice. "They" nor "it" didn’t put me in the very overweight and unhealthy dilemma that I was in, I did. I became focused, positive, and accountable. I considered each situation an opportunity to learn or improve. I "get to" or "choose to" do or eat things instead of "have to, or "can’t eat that." I am in control. I dictate my future, and am important to my boys and my family. Life is precious, and we just never know.

4. Please describe how Calorie Count was instrumental to your weight loss.

Calorie Count was instrumental to my weight loss by providing numbers, tools, inspirational stories, and a great overall website to keep me on track

5. What difficulties did you experience losing weight?

At first, the pain was terrible. I could not stand a minute without pain. My lower back and knees were inflamed. I was great for 4 months, but slipped during the holidays (no excuse, I am accountable). As easy is it is to eat clean (because your body loves it, and gives you energy), it is also easy to crave poor food and take a step back. I did this despite me knowing exactly how poor meals are when eating out.

6. How long did it take you to see results? When did you realize that you were a success?

I saw results immediately! When I ate clean and complete for the first time, my body was in shock. I went from doing almost nothing daily to something, then more and more. Within 8 weeks of clean eating, I eliminated my diabetes, both cholesterol numbers and my electrolytes normalized. I will not give up or stop! I want to inspire others so they can follow the path to healthy living.

7. How do you prevent relapse?

I have relapsed, but in the end, I have regained discipline. To not let it happen again, I can go on forums or support groups. I am mentally stronger than when I started and I can eat clean foods in place of poor foods.

8. How has your life changed now that you've lost weight?

I have significantly more confidence, energy, and less pain. My wife and kids respect me significantly more. My friends are inspired and proud, and I feel good about myself. I am helping out on 4 different projects and jobs, and now work 60-70 hours a week, 7 days a week at 335 pounds. Imagine what will be possible when I am at my goal weight?

9. How long have you maintained your current weight?

I have gradually gone down since 8/1/12 and in the last 3 weeks I hit my first goal of 100 pounds down! The next one is 150 down by 12/6/13, and the final one is 210 down by 6/6/14. I keep my eyes on the prize, and recognize that this is for life rather than a diet.

10. What tips do you have for other dieters?

1. Make a lifestyle change. This is your life, not a diet to lose a few pounds, or even a lot! Eat healthy and please RESEARCH and utilize tools at hand: Calorie Count, Spark People, those around you that have been there. Knowledge is power and will help you make good choices for life.

2. Enjoy eating clean. Consider it an opportunity to be great, to feel better. Understand that your body will thank you for it, and that your life will be enhanced and with more longevity.

3. Don’t give up if you sway. Keep your eye on the ball - stay focused. If you make a mistake, start over again. Think big, but have realistic goals that are obtainable in short spurts. Take it one step at a time.

4. Make sure that you make time to exercise. It will keep you going in the right direction. Whether it be an intense 15 minute workout or a two a day 3 hour collective boot camp, you can do what you want. Exercise will make you feel physically and emotionally great.

5. Care for yourself and others around you. Be the inspiration. People love both motivated winners, and tough luck underdogs that build from the bottom up. Either way, you can be

Do something nice for yourself. I had my nails done and it just makes me feel pretty. Feeling good about myself makes it easier to stick to the program.

Try a smoothie made from scratch as a meal replacement.

8oz juice or milk
1c fruits and vegetables- your choice chopped and frozen
Banana can be added- does not need to be frozen
Yogurt can be added
Wheat germ can be added

Keep in mind the more you add, the more calories. I try to pick 3.

Drink water before you eat. You might just be very thirsty. Thirst and hunger are controlled by the same part of the brain and we confuse the signals at times. Drink a big glass of water next time you are snackish.

Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. I tried some organic, dried, unsulfered mangos yesterday and it was so sweet and tropical that I felt like it was summer! YUM!

They were $3.99 a bag. Same cost as a big bag of chips for a small bag of mangos. Sad, but healthier.

I don't care though and I have a fairly small income. The truth is that if I cut out a few fast food meals, some of the chips and pop and garbage that I eat, I save a ton of money! I have the money then to spend on healthy delicious food. I don't have to share everything with the family... sometimes you just need something for yourself as a treat. Why not get something healthy?

I think we all need to learn to enjoy healthy foods. Buy things that look or sound good to you in the healthy category and not just in the unhealthy category. We are all eager enoughvto spend money on fast food and junk, but we hold our money tight when it comes to new fruits, veggie trays... Loosen up and spoil yourself on some healthy food. It budgets out the same.

I regain weight at points in time. It could be due to lax tracking and measuring (usually), medicine changes, days of losing focus, a love affair with Coca Cola for too long or many other reasons. Usually, I get depressed and get lax with measuring and tracking for a month or two. Whatever the reason, I do manage and have managed to keep losing for over 7 years now, despite all regain periods.

The first thing you have to do is remember to "Trend" like the stock market. Things go up and down by the minute, day, week... But YOU are in this for the long haul. Think of where you want to be at the end of a 6 month period or a year. Stay in an overall downward trend and consider anything else a warning blip on the radar.

Also be forgiving to yourself as you would you child or your best friend. Find a quiet place where you can be honest with your own feelings. Then split yourself. Talk to yourself as if you were a best friend or kind parent about the situations that lead you to over eat. Nobody knows you better than yourself and you will be surprised at what you will unlock. The needs you have that have gone unmet, the emotions you stuff down...

Tell yourself that you are a good and deserving person, not a failure. Diets fail you, you don't fail them. Lifestyle change is the only way to lose weight permanently. With that being said, there is no longer a diet, nor a diet wagon to fall off of... There is only the journey. It continues past all decisions whether they might add weight to your body or subtract it. So stay the course and trend down. You are not weak. You have struggled endlessly with a weight problem- that takes strength! You're here reading this instead of giving up, aren't you?!

Happy I stopped in here, good to know I am NOT the only person whose husband loves the junk food. I get REALLY NASTY too Indy. I started to go to bed early to get away from him and his eating. After, I go to bed he gets out his cookies and candy. If I can hear him clinking the spoon on the edge of the bowl that makes me SCREAM too.

It is really hard to ignore all the junk when it is looking at me. I wish I wasn't tempted, but I am. emoticon emoticon

I get really cranky with my saboteurs. I make my hubby keep his goodies in his car lol.

Question, though:
Does any on here have an issue with a well-meaning saboteur? I am talking about my husband who cannot stay out of the bakery and keeps buying candy and chips. He is retired and so also does most of the cooking. (I am lucky to have dinner waiting when I get home from work!)

Anyway, I have to remind him to not fill up my plate so much. Somestime I make my own plate. BUT...if the chips, candy, pies etc. are in the house, I WILL EAT THEM! Help!
