My thanks also to everyone for explaining more about the Fitbit. One more question? Can I track it on my laptop?
As soon as I hear feedback on the 3 different devices, I'll make up my mind which one is best for me.
This is a great way to find out about these things!

I have been convinced, I am definitely going to get a Fitbit. :) Hopefully I get one within the next month. I have been researching it and it seems like a great buy. I usually don't like buying fitness fads, because I think I will just stop using them no matter how awesome they are. In the past I have given up on my diets very easily. This time though I have stuck with a diet and it has been working. I would love to hear everyone's feedback on the 3 different devices Fitbit offers. They are called the Flex, the Zip, and the One. Thanks everyone.

I didn't realize that they made one for the wrist. I planned on getting one anyway, but I am glad to know that I can wear it on the wrist....I'll be able to keep up with it much better.

It comes with a soft wristband that the Fitbit slides in to. Comes with the base for charging. I found I can charge it with a compatible charger when I' m traveling and don't have my laptop. It doesn't log though without a pc that's why I want the Fitbit that syncs to my iPhone.

Thanks ladies for the info. I googled a site to learn more about the Fitbit and it shows how you can wear it in a wristband at night to have the vibrating alarm wake you . . . does that wristband come with it? Are there other accessories that come with it?
Because I'm deaf, I wear a wrist alarm to wake me by vibrating and it works really good but I would like to track my sleep via Fitbit.
I'm curious about all that comes with it and maybe I'll look into getting one in Canada, if they have them here.

HI - I'm new here. Just joined this team. Not new to Spark though, just been lurking around. I have had fitbits for last 3 years. I have not found any cheaper ones except the newer model that just came out. I keep losing mine :( this time found a way to NOT lose it. They run $99 but well worth it. I got my last one at Best Buy. If you get it through FitBit web site you have to pay shipping. So it's a little bit cheaper to get it at Best Buy. I want the newer one that syncs to my cell phone. You have to down load the program to your pc and when you walk by the computer it uploads your information. I charge mine by the computer every third day. There is one that has a battery. Nice little tool. Just be careful how you wear it, it's easy to lose.

I love this IndyGirl! she really motivates me!!

I, too, have been mulling over getting a Fitbit (for months, actually!) but are they hard to track everything? Somehow I got the idea we have to load everything on our computer? Do I have that mixed up somehow?
I'd like to see how well I sleep at night and to track my exercise, etc., on it. I need to know more about them, are there any sites to go to for info?

IndyGirl- I have really been considering buying a FitBit. Does anybody know of the cheapest place to buy one. I think I will get it as reward for either losing 20 pounds or on my 2 month anniversary of Spark. And I agree the smart phone app for Spark is so convenient.

I've been tracking my food and staying in range and I had to do the hard part...
According to my FitBit, I was burning exactly what I was eating.
So, I had to cut Calories.
I bumped my calories down starting today.
According to SparkPeople, I can eat more than I burn at the rate of trying to lose a pound a week now. That did not used to be true. I had to bump my rate up to 2 pounds a week in hopes of seeing a 1 pound a week loss. Everybody's metabolism is so individual.

I LOVE my FitBit. It lets me know exactly what I'm burning metabolically and via exercise. SparkPeople lets me know what I'm taking in. Together the formula really keeps me on track.

Tracking can be a chore, but if you have a smart phone, it is much easier. The sparkpeople app is easy, free and user friendly, I like it better than the site for logging, Much quicker.

Hi everyone !! I just joined this team. I need to be on a team that has lots of activity so I can refresh my weight loss journey. I've been back to logging my food for over two weeks now and it is really helping.

Something new I started last week: I take a piece of notebook paper and make out my dinner menu for Sunday through Saturday. It is hanging on the refrigerator. This helps with grocery shopping and I don't have to go to the kitchen at 5:00 to figure out what we are going to have for dinner. Also, by having it planned ahead, I have planned for healthy dishes and I can not sway from the menu.

Wishing everyone a GREAT day!!!

HI everyone! We got a dusting of snow and it's cold here in Ohio also...yet it was 60 degrees over the weekend and dropped to 19 with cold wind chills. You never know! Kinda disgusted with myself. Coming home from work tired and just filling a plate with leftovers and going way over....gotta get a handle on it.

Hi Everyone

Well it is -10 and snowy ! We are still under a snow squall warning and there are many cancellations in the area and minor accidents along with at least one road closure. So much for the +12 degrees and not coats of the previous weekend ! It is January though, so what should I expect ?

Today I have found some exercise videos that I like and I've been trying to get them saved on my favourites. I did two of them today and still plan on getting on my vibrating machine later tonight.

I've stayed within my range of calories and I've concluded I can't really trust the other nutrients tracked unless the correct info is input into the system for items eaten. So slowly over the next decade, I will try to ensure that everything I enter into my favourites will have the nutrient content entered into the system.

I'm hungry at the present time and the water I'm drinking just isn't cutting it, but it won't be long until supper. I'm cooking chicken thighs with baked potatoe and mixed veggies.

Hope you all are having a good day. emoticon

Hi Everyone

Its been a lazy day for me here. I haven't been posting much as I've been running back and forth to the hospital 45 min away in another town .... trying to get prepared for day surgery. After a meeting with Anethetist and stress test I was good to go for the 16th.... sat all day there with no water or food till 3 pm when they told me it was cancelled .... they'd ran out of time. Arrgghh Finally had it done on Friday !! Now I just need to wait for results and a follow up in 6 weeks ......so now I can concentrate on Sparks at least for 6 weeks.

Yesterday I did some reading and added some recipies to my recipe box. I also made sure that that I had saved the Youtube Channel .... thanks so much btw for all that work ladies !

I have found since Xmas I'm craving sweets. Maybe I should try Crystal light. I have some but haven't made any ..... I usually resever that for summer time. I love carbs and I'm trying to cut back on them, so If I'm in range that's great, but if I'm low even better I think.

Its hard to believe that last night it was raining here, then started snowing and thundering at the same time ... and today is just a nasty snow day -- we are under a snow squall warning and could get 15 cm today ! Yuck -- I'm staying on the inside looking out.

Have a great day all ! emoticon

Good idea re: carbs, Beth. I crave carbs constantly, yet feel so much better when I limit them to the lower ranges. Usually the craving wins out. emoticon emoticon

I know that is a great idea for my family especially- my husband has Type 2 Diabetes and I am always trying creative new ways to lower carbs without eliminating them completely (because that is not healthy for diabetes either!)

Gives me lots to think about!

Thanks!

What a great project... and just what I need. Even IF (and that is a big IF) I am within my carb range, it is barely under the upper limit. I was surprised to learn, through the reports, that I am consistently 50-70% Carbs. I want to get down to 40-50% carbs but me likes me sammiches. Sweets are also a problem after the holidays. I am finding that it is harder and harder to tame this sweet tooth!!

That's a great project Beth. Given all the problems I've been having keeping my blood sugar stabalized, I need to join you. I need to balance my carbs to meet my insulin requirment so my blood sugar won't drop too low or go too high.. I've been having a lot of problems with that lately, and it is no fun at all. emoticon

My Next Project:

I'm over on carbs a LOT, which throws me over on calories a LOT. When I curb the carb intake, the calories fall in place and I do much better. I'm not talking about a low carb diet, I'm just talking about eating within my SparkPeople Range. I also notice that many times I don;t get enough protein and I need a supplement drink. Fat, I eat healthy fats like nut butters, canola oil, olives...

So my project is to BALANCE MY EATING ON MY TRACKER.

I need to get things closer to where they should be, within the two sets of numbers, not above them.

I personally recommend setting your tracker to lose at a speed of 1/2 to 1 pound a week. This allows for treats and special occasions... and if you lose faster on the lower end of your calories, GREAT! It sounds small, but it adds up if you see my profile. I've lost 235 pounds now, just using SparkPeople.

I'm going to be focusing on carbs and balancing the next few weeks. The idea is not low carb, the idea is balanced diet ala SparkPeople Diet Tracker. However, IF YOU want to go low carb, this will help you also. I don't have the answers to many of the low carb lifestyle questions, unfortunately. I do thing balancing with healthier carbs instead of simple processed ones will improve our losses though.

Have to clean out the freezer too, otherwise kitchen cupboards & fridge are scrubbed and organized. Set up a weigh & measure station, but DH keeps stealing my teaspoons for various things. too much trouble to open a drawer! :)
What is the next project?

Since the holidays I went through one drawer and cleaned it out...this will motivate me to do more. Hubby cleaned up one cabinet before the holidays as we were looking at outdated labels and he just finished the cabinet. Had a lot of outdated foods in there. This was totally out of character for hubby...but made room for extra foods for the holidays. Maybe good things are happening since hubby is out of work. He is really changing!

Indygirl in a recent blog you spoke of looking at your carbs and cutting back a bit. I was wondering, about how many grams a day are you trying for? I am thinking on 100 carbs a day...as I have read this was a good place to start, but I am just curious what you think about that.

I am committed to me..really committed to me for the first time, in like EVER!

@Lyn- That is awesome that you are here to see your great granddaughter reach that milestone! Yes, I am very busy, and at times forget to just relax and pamper myself. However, I do make it a point to get some time to myself. My birthday is coming up and I am planning on spending Saturday and most of Sunday(the weekend of the 26th) without the children or any other responsibilities. Maybe hubby and I can have a date night and just spend some uninterrupted quality time together. We very rarely get that. Thanks for the encouragement!

I have a big pantry to go through and throw away out dated food. Hubby gets upset with me when I load the garbage can since he has to take it out. After all I do all the rest of the cleaning at least he can take out the garbage. He had a fit last night because I throw out 6 jars of peanut butter. All out date over a year. We are out of peanut butter. I asked Hubby if he was even eating peanut butter sandwiches and he said no. I am not either. If we need some there is a little store across the street and if they don't have any I will gladly walk the mile to the Supermarket, In fact I think I will do that today just for the exercise. But I am not buying peanut butter.

I went through the kitchen drawers and cleaned them out pretty good.
I've got my measuring cups and measuring spoons in the same drawer.
I've got my scale placed conveniently on the kitchen counter.
My refrigerator is freshly cleaned and organized
My cabinet space is not that big so there is not much room for un-neccesary foods
My kitchen counter is cleared of all un-neccesary clutter
I still need to go through my pots and pans...some of them I need to get rid of.

I still have to do my deep freeze, if I ever get over this horrific cold.

Where does everyone stand on their kitchen project check list?
I've done the following:
Cleaned out old medicine, foods, spices
Set measuring cups out in a huge bowl
Set measuring spoons out in a glass
Set a food scale out
Cleared the and neatened the pantry, fridge and freezer
Bought some new cookware, measuring cups, spoons, plates

Still to do- the deep freeze
Give cleaned out foods that are still in date away to food pantry or other

Goodwill is an awesome place to find cute lunch sized plates and small bowls for smaller serving sizes.
