I love cracked wheat bread the way I make it in my bread machine, also I love oranges, avocados, sweet potatos mashed with a bit of coconut milk, fresh salmon topped with lemon juice and dill, carrot cake oatmeal, nectarines, and greek yogurt with coconut in it.

I had to go grocery shopping today. My favorite Grocery is Whole Foods Market. I bought produce, like clementines and grapes, and also tuna lime salad with a cucumber salad from the deli for dinner. Oh yes! Honey Crisp apples are back in season, so I got some of those. They are very sweet and juicy. I also bought some Kashi Autumn Wheat cereal.

What are some of your favorite healthy groceries?

emoticon emoticon Howdy-Doody from Texas on this wonderful cool morning that we are having here in my area of the state! emoticon

I hope everyone had a grand and glorious weekend! These last 12 lbs that the doctor gave me to lose is winding up to be one of my biggest challenges yet. I'm not rushing it though. They will come off in time. I'm just remaining faithful to my new lifestyle and things will progress. It is so wonderful not to be having as many leg tremors as I did several weeks ago. The new medicine is working. I am really enjoying my morning walks emoticon emoticon and can accomplish them better.

Have a blessed day and wonderful journey to the new you!

To de-stress I hang out in my "room". I am happily single, so I have fixed my bedroom up to be a sanctuary for study, reading, writing, and barely getting into meditation. One corner of this huge room has my little desk where I am talking to you right now. I can put on my music or listen to vlogs. I just love having a day where I shower, put on clean jammies or comfy clothes and just hang out in here.

Sometimes I will go down to the Mukilteo Beach on the Puget Sound and hang out there for the day with my music, journal, book, and umbrella for the sun or rain whichever it might be doing.

BLISSING OUT!

To destress I READ and that is usually it though if I am real upset I clean. I know that is bizarre but when something really bad happens I clean. When I was on the verge of getting divorced my house was the vision of cleanliness and organized. I do like that about myself but who wants to feel like that?

Good Morning Everyone,
Headed to church in about an hour. Plan to go to the store for meats afterward and get busy with cooking the next 2 weeks meals to put in the freezer. Plans are in the making to buy a pressure cooker and can our own stews, soups, and meats...... Should prove interesting! LOL
This is what happens when I clean my kitchen..... emoticon

I haven't seen this side of me for over 6 years! emoticon

Next I will be baking bread. I use to LOVE baking bread. Just something calming about beating up the dough...... I also have major plans to start piecing some quilts together. I have so many projects running around in my head that its scary. With every room I clean the closer I get to my sewing projects. Hubby is cringing, he knows a trip to storage is getting closer every week. LOL

Walking in my first 5k tomorrow! If I can so can you! 4 weeks of walking has made the world of difference! I have a portable chair that weighs less than a pound but supports over 400. At the beginning when I needed to stop, I sat. Gradually each day I went a little further. I am really excited because I am just so much more optimistic about feeling that I can get my health and life back!

Thanks to people like Indygirl that have demonstrated that it can be done!

Today and tomorrow are my days of rest. I always rest on weekends. It's very important to me to have some time just to do whatever and not have to work on anything in particular. De-stressing yourself is vital to keep yourself healthy and out of binge mode. Stress triggers higher levels of 2 hormones- insulin and cortisol. I welcome you to look up information about them. Basically, they both make your hungry when they flood the system.

What do you do to de-stress? When? At night I usually play on my phone and do Words With Friends. If there are any players out there, I go by Indygirl. Invite me to a game and let me know you're from SparkPeople.

I've gone through my cabinets, and cleared anything expired. Food that is unhealthy for me
(processed foods) have been donated to local food pantry. I've made a list of what healthy items I should have, and will gradually stock up (brown rice/dried beans, etc) when they are on sale. I use Pyrex dishes to store food rather than plastic, although I still have some.

I truly need to do some deep cleaning of my kitchen, I have some areas that I have not looked at in quite some time and I know some out dated items that just need to go...I will begin this first thing in the morning as I need to get some clear see through storage containers to begin my storing of good healthy foods.

I also need to do some getting rid of things that have sat for so long waiting for me to use them and I know I will not, so out they will go...I have been told the more we have around us to clutter our lives the more depressed or down we get and I can see this in me..So tonight I will take one room and work on it until it is totally cleared out...I can already feel the freeing it will bring just by thinking of how much better I am going to feel.

Today well lived makes every yesterday a dream of happiness, and every tomorrow a vision of hope.....The secret of contentment is the realization that life is a gift not a right.....

I'm still working on the kitchen, not getting it done to fast but when it's done it will look nice. I read your todays post here and I do the same things but mine is my 2 oldest daughters. But when you can step back and look, we get up set and then eat? It's not like that's going to hurt them. But it is hurting us, I to will try this and to stop hurting me. Thanks emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Just found this topic. Actually, 2 days ago joined this team! ~Indygirl, you just keep motivating me and I thank you. It's hard to lay everything out there. I've decided to "take your lead and try it".

This weekend, we are staying home--we love doing that and sometimes life gets way too busy. So, tomorrow morning, I'm going to clean out my island. Get rid of some of the electrical "tools", I don't need. One example is a meat grinder I've never used. I purchased one to go on my KitchenAid mixer and I do plan on grinding hamburger from our home grown beef. I need room to get appliances off of the counter top and stored in the island.

Recently, I decided I had to make this life change fun. I threw out all my plastic ware, more tops than bottoms or more bottoms than tops. I replaced them with clear glass pyrex--bright red tops (different sizes). Helps me to "see" what's in the frig. I also added new set of measuring cups and spoons, new scraper, etc. I do like your idea of buying one piece of cookware per payday. emoticon

"Together we Achieve More" and I'm going to become an extrovert.

I generally clean my counters every night after dinner, but boy my fridge needs a cleaning. And the cabinets are way overdue, especially the one with the honey and soy sauce in it lol. Thanks for the motivating!

I just read you statement "The REAL SECRET TO LOSING WEIGHT AND MAKING A LIFESTYLE is finding what works for YOU. " This one is a winner. So often I try to be something I am not. If I and my family can live with things the way they are there are much more important things to change. Thanks for the tip.

I am working on my fridge this week. Too, too many science experiments growing in there.

Today is just doing dishes in the kitchen project.

I have something kind of exciting to tell you all- I am 2 pounds from being HALF the body weight that I started at! Woohoo!

RELATIONSHIP ISSUES LEAD TO OVEREATING AND STAYING IN BED FOR ME.
So I really have to watch it. My husband has been particularly rough on me lately. He gets mad at everything and makes me cry and seems to have something to yell about every time I want to celebrate one of my successes. I'm not sure what has gotten into him, but he's like a big grumpy dog lately, I can't seem to do anything right.

This does make me want to eat. That's why I try to stay full. To do this, I eat on a mini-meal schedule of every 3-4 hours. I also allow myself free graze on the fruits and vegetables. I don't psychoanalyze it first to get it under control. I just need to understand this: I am an emotional eater. I need to stay full and know when my next meal is going to be to fight emotional eating. Then, once I have the physical hunger issue taken care of, I can psychoanalyze the details more calmly.

I have a very large pantry. It is also my laundry room. There are shelves from floor to ceiling on three sides. Enough said. All shelves are full of stuff. Today I went through shelves on two walls and cleaned out a lot of stuff. Putting some old pans and baking dishes in a garage sale, and throwing away a lot of old plastic ware. I now have four empty shelves. WooHoo emoticon I'm so glad this team has inspired me. Thank you. Thank you very much.

Today I'm headed back into the kitchen to find out what I can do to better my storage container area and buy some Glad Ware so that I can freeze up food fast after cooking in batches. I could also make lunches out of things, or single serving size snacks, or just about anything I need with all of the options they have out there. I'll write about what I bought and why when I get back from shopping.

I'm buying Glad Ware or "disposable" storage ware because it is less expensive and washes up just the same. I've been happy with the pieces I have.

PS Just stepped on the scale and am 2 pounds from HALF my body weight of where I started from at 460. I weighed in at 232!!! Woohoo!

I was in my pantry yesterday trying to put things in better order. I cleaned out several food items that I probably will never use. Many of them were even outdated. The good ones I put aside to give to my daughters.

You all inspired me. I took a good look at my kitchen stuff that hasn't been used for a long time. I have decided to give away my HUGE Tupperware bowls that I used to make salads (potato salad, macaroni salad etc) in, to take to social events. I haven't used them for about 5 years.

I am also giving away my bread maker. (since my kids are gone) I don't eat that much bread myself. Twelve count Cupcake pans, doughnut pans, cake pans, Pizza pans, etc will also go. I haven't baked sweets in years. I have a 6 count muffin pan I will keep for mini meatloaves.

This is going to be so fun and really helpful to me down the road. If I don't have this stuff around I won't miss it. And just think of the space I will have. emoticon

Thanks Beth for inspiring me.

What's one thing (big or small) that you did or are going to do to improve your kitchen today?
If you just got here and are wondering what this is about, read my lower posts,

Yes, the kitchen project is about things as time consuming as shopping for new items and cleaning out pantries to making cabinet space and clearing counter tops. Just wiping things down and keeping a comfortable zone in the kitchen really helps. It's anything that makes YOU comfortable with your eating plan in the kitchen.

I actually keep my weigh in scale in the kitchen too. emoticon
That helps me focus in the morning on what I;m doing.

Today I go grocery shopping at Whole Foods Market and stock up on fruits and veggies. I love their produce, so vibrant! I swear I could eat my way through the fruit aisle. Anyway, I also need some organic milk, wheat germ, Greek yogurt, and Kashi autumn wheat cereal. I'm also off to get some protein drink for a friend and myself. I love Nectar Sweets protein because it blends easily, is 23 grams of protein for 100 calories, and is more like a Kool-Aid than a lumpy drink. You can find it on Amazon. It really kills my appetite and gives me more pep in my step.

Today and tomorrow, the hubby is going to help me reorganize the pots and pans, decide what to keep and what to give away or even throw away... then go through the freezer and pantry and the dreaded cabinets.

Next week, I plan to wash down the cabinets with his help. As of this Thursday though, I just plan to relax and enjoy my work for a few days until Monday hits. You have to take time to enjoy the scenery and the little things. Weight loss is like that too. I'll give you some thoughts on that Thursday.

I have been working on keeping my counters cleaned off. They look pretty good right now and the same goes for the freezer. I am not buying anymore food to go into the freezer until what is in there is used up.

COMING FROM A FAMILY OF 13, IT SI SO HARD FOR ME TO LEARN HOW TO CUT DOWN HOW MUCH I MAKE. AT FIRST I COULD JUST FREEZE SOME FOR A NIGHT WHEN I WAS TOO TIRED TO COOK. NOW, DH CAN'T EAT WHAT I MAKE EITHER. I WILL BE SO HAPPY WHEN I CAN COOK ONLY FOR ME. BUT WE LITERALLY HAVE EVERY CUPBOARD IN THE HOUSE FULL AS WELL AS THE FREEZER - ALL WITH THINGS HE WANTED BUT CAN'T HAVE. WE CANNOT AFFORD TO THROW THAT FOOD OUT SO I WILL HAVE TO USE IT BUT JUST EAT IT IN SENSIBLE PORTIONS. I PREFER TO BROIL WHERE HE LIKES A SAUCE ON EVERYTHING. I LOVE VEGGIES; HE WON'T TOUCH THEM. I WILL EVEN SHOP AT A DIFFERENT STORE WHEN ALL THIS FOOD IS GONE.

My boyfriend has a studio apartment in the town in which he works, which is a 2 hour drive from home. He is there 4 days a week. It is so very, very, easy to send any foods that are not on my "good" list with him when he leaves for work! That leaves me with only healthy foods in the house!

I've got to do this too. My freezer is full, my refrig appears to be stocked plentifully and I have a kitchen cupboard of boxed and canned foods, however, when it comes to planning meals, I'm always tempted by take out or running to store to pick up something to make. I need to use up what I have, give away (or toss) what I'm not going to use, and have a better plan next time I go shopping. I also need to assess my cooking gear. I could also use some more measuring cups and spoons.

Have fun with your kitchen and thank you for the inspiration to work on mine.

I got the refrigerator done.... still dreading the pantry and freezer! I may wait until the hubby can help me tomorrow. I did go shopping for more cooking gear and got some mini strainers, a hand held strainer and some big strainers. I need a few of each so that I'll wash my fruits and veggies, cook more pastas and whole grains... It's like the measuring cups and spoons for me. Once they are dirty, I won't bother washing them for a new use. If there is a clean one available, I'll use it though.

That may be lazy on my part, but it's me. We all have to embrace what works in our particular lifestyle. Maybe in your kitchen you are good with only one set of these sorts of things and wash them after each use.

The REAL SECRET TO LOSING WEIGHT AND MAKING A LIFESTYLE is finding what works for YOU. Your friend could swear by the artichoke and steak diet that includes running everyday, but unless you like those things or can do those things, you are not likely to stick with it. You have to literally go through many failures to find the right answers. You are eliminating things that do not work for you and finding things that do. Take what you like and leave the rest. The compilation of what you like and are successful at, is your lifestyle plan that will work for you.

I'm starting with my refriedgerator. I'm cleaning out and changing it around. I read that it is a better plan to keep all of the healthy foods on the middle shelf, and all potable foods that is easy to grab and snack on should be placed on a different shelf...perferably in the back. This will not only limit snacking, but it will encourage healthier food choices. emoticon

My one for now is keeping the kitchen counter
cleaned off. I have a limited amt. of counter
space to begin with. I need to keep my toaster
oven on it; as well as my Kitchen Aid mixer; my
slo-cooker w/set of three pots. Since I am unable
to lift heavy appliances that is where to keep them.
But, if I can keep what space is left, cleared off
and shiny, that is something!

My pantry project is "rat catching" - because its winter the rats and mice move in for the warmth and food!! So we have to set traps - then I have to get in and clean the mess and replace chewed containers!!

Welcome everyone! I'm so glad you all are joining us.

I want to invite you all to join me in my kitchen project this week... well, it may take more than a week. I am revamping my kitchen to fit my lifestyle and make me more productive at losing weight.

I'm on a tight budget, so I can't throw out things like crazy, but I do need to buy new cookware and get rid of the old. I decided to replace one piece each pay day. The old can go to Charity if it is still useful enough. There is also the kitchen scale, the measuring cups, spoons, and storage ware. I have several sets of each. The storage ware needs replaced, as I've lost many lids. I think I'm, just going to get Gladware for now. the reason I have so many measuring spoons and cups is because they get dirty from meal to meal and I don't always want to wash them in between.

Phase one of the kitchen revamp starts today in the pantry. I am throwing out the outdated dry food. Then I am headed to the fridge and freezer tomorrow to do the same thing.

Post your kitchen project here if you want to join me.

Life is happening now, not 10 pounds from now. ~Indygirl
