Thank you for the suggetions, I am going to try the supplements. I am also trying to reduce the process food but that seems to be harder to do. When I am stressed that is the first thing i reach for so i will continue to try to reduce them and find other ways to relieve stress.

So inspiring to read all your posts, and so glad to be rededicating my time to Spark again. I slid away from Spark while I was on the slippery slope, but as Beth encouraged below, to basically turn where you are and keep fighting the good fight. ("You don't poke holes in the other three tires when you get a flat in one of them!") Only half way back up the slope again, but moving forward because I know that help is on the way as long as I keep going!! emoticon

Thanks for this Beth. I am going to try the cinnamon and Chromium supplements. I am already doing the B12/BComplex & D. I just feel better when I take them. I too am turning away from processed foods and have lost 14 lbs over the last 3 months. Thanks for the encouragement and the inspiration.

I used SparkPeople and ate MORE naturally, in other words, less processed foods. I started by eliminating growth hormones, which can make cows fat (and thus the people who eat and drink from the cows fat) from meat and milk and buying organic. Talk to your doctor about anything I'm about to type next. It is only my opinion and I am writing from my experience.

The LESS Processed food in your diet, the thinner and less hungry you will be. Your appetite will drop like crazy when you get on more natural sources of food. Note: I say MORE and never ALL. ALL makes life a pain in the butt sometimes and can be very expensive, but it is something to strive fore.

Vitamin D is something people who have a lot of belly fat are low in, which has been shown in many scientific studies (see google), so I took it through my weight loss for seasonal affective disorder (depression from sun deprivation) and also because I have a lot of belly fat.

Cinnamon and Chromium 2000 mg cures a sweet tooth for me personally and is something that helps with my diabetes and helped me get off insulin. You can get it at any Walgreens or Walmart and it comes in a green bottle for around ten dollars. It helps with keeping blood sugar from spiking and seems to help me with my binging. I also took this throughout my weight loss and need to get back to it. It seems I plateau whenever I become lax with this one supplement.

B12 I took this throughout my whole weight loss in either shot or tablet form. It helps with energy and pairs well with the other B vitamins for balance, especially b6 and b1.

Protein- I like Nectar Sweets by Syntrax, which you can get on Amazon because it mixes well, isn't clumpy and tastes good. There are a variety of flavors and you don't have to drink 8 ounces at a time! 2 ounces can give you 24 grams of protein for 100 calories! Flavors include my personal faves: cookies and cream, fuzzy navel, double stuffed cookie, chocolate truffle, cappuccino, strawberry mousse, vanilla torte and more.

More tips to come at a later date. That's it for today. Have a great day!

I did it! Thanks to SPARKPEOPLE for making me realize dreams do come true! I graduated and am now a certified professional weight loss coach! I lost 240 pounds without weight loss surgery because of SPARKPEOPLE and dared to dream again. It turned my life completely around. I began moving and went from bedridden and lifting shampoo bottles in bed to walking. I went from lying in bed all day to a meaningful life. I went from disabled to a hopeful career. Thank you SPARKPEOPLE! If you're out there thinking your dreams won't come true, just start taking small, deliberate steps in the right direction. Don't wait for magical motivation. It's a myth and so is will power. Eating foods that don't tick of your body's hunger hormones is a great start. Try adding fruits, veggies, lean protein, whole grains, healthy fats, and water to your menu and the rest will fall to the side more naturally. ADD good habits to your life. The bad ones fall away.

Imagine yourself in a car and just never hit park or reverse... always move forward. Even when you are eating something off track, just take the wheel and turn it back in the right direction. Don't stop! If you blow a tire, don't run around the car popping the other three tires in an angry frenzy, get the one fixed and get back on the road. If you get a speeding ticket, pay the fine, don't spend the rest of the day breaking traffic laws. If your engine needs fixed, don't take a hammer to it and go extreme force or try to hold it together with spit and chewing gum, take it to the garage where they know what to do with it and how to diagnose the problem better than you can. Keep your paint job pretty, it makes you feel better while you're driving around.

Rode my bike for the third time and fell again, this hurting my knee and shoulder, both of which already need surgery. Also pulled on a hernia, which is now protruding and hurting more. In a few days, I plan to adjust the bike seat lower and go at it again. Why? Because I fell when I first tried to walk after being bedridden. Nothing of value comes easily. Feeling the breeze in your face and the wind dancing in your hair as you ride freely is worth the fight. If it's something you want, NEVER give up on it!

I honestly thought I would weight 460 or more and die in my room. It was that last ditch half-hearted attempt that stuck. Don't wait for some magical stars to align and motivation to hit. Start down the yellow brick road, Dorthy. You will find the Wizard.

Hi Debbie - Thanks for asking after me! I have been truly fantastic even through my little hiccups in life since I joined SP! It just seems to have spilled over into all parts of my life making me a joyful person!

Glad to hear you're getting settled into life in your RV! Is it everything you imagined it would be?

Ginilee .... GINI ! I am always glad when I see you post!
OH I AM SO HAPPY! emoticon

Jeanne .... How have you been doing up until now? I check in on you occasionally and you seem to be stepping right along......

I am trying to get my act together now that DH and I are alone in our RV.... It is definitely an adjustment to make on the space but I love the quiet time I have to study and post in the mornings. I am less stressed here but that has a lot to do with mom now being in the full time nursing facility. I just ran across an awesome recipe for mini meatloaf muffins and I am excited to give them a whirl emoticon

I'm still so stoked about SP and it's been about a month! I hope this honeymoon feeling lasts a while longer! At least the 8 wks that I read it takes to become a habit!

I am Jumping in! I have been on this team for a long time. I don't think I have posted that much.. so bogged down in self pity and defeat that I have not been proactive in my own life in well over a year. I am ready to change all that. Beth is a huge inspiration. I need to be inspired.

I am committed to me..really committed to me for the first time, in like EVER!

OH boy!
Tomorrow we start packing up moms apartment. I DO NOT look forward to that invasion of her privacy.... emoticon

I wish there was another way but I have been told from just about everyone that ( IF ) I were to take her home to go through her stuff she would sit down and refuse to leave and ( IF ) I had her picked up then she might get hurt or set up a terrible public show of noise and anger! emoticon

So the plan is to box each dresser and label all the contents so that we know where everything is that she might want. I plan to put all the bedroom boxes up front in the storage so that we can get to them easier. She seems to have most of her cherished goodies in the bedroom.
I just pray she settles down and in her mind, forgives me for the betrayal she feels I have committed.... emoticon While trying to keep her safe

But HEY! Great Exercise for the next 4 day's! emoticon emoticon

to all of you with back pain:

2 simple exercises for help with the pain. you can do them sitting or lying down. I have been known to do them in my car at stoplights!

#1 - tighten butt cheeks, squeeze abdominal musicle tight, and push down so your pushing your tight butt into the floor or chair. loosen. repeat 10 times.

#2 - sit up straight, bend forward and try to grab your arms below your knees. pull your abs forward and hold for 10 seconds. loosen and sit up atraight. repeat 10 times.

my PT and back doctor gave me these exercises. they really help, especially in cold weather when everything seems to tighten up. I hope they work for you!

stop waiting to feel like it and JUST DO IT!

Hello Beth.I read your recent blog about avoiding binges. There are all good ideas. BUT how did you find the strength, motivation, inspiration to fight a binge. Those tips work for me when i am ok, but when a binge comes, it feels like a tornado and i feel overwhelmed and give in.

Beth and all of you who have been successful, please tell me what helped you then.
Thank you in advance.

Had to have 2 more steroid shots, so my weight jumped up a bit. Had to fight it back down. How? Fresh fruits and veggies and lots of lean protein sources. I cut out the fake carbs and stick to natural carbs like fruit, potato, peas, you get the drift. It isn't that I say NEVER to fake foods... processed foods. I say sometimes. I just don't let them into the house and make myself go out of the house to get them and eat them there. That way, it's more of a pain in the neck to eat processed junk food.

Processed food I do let into the house includes lean frozen entrees like Smart Ones, Lean Cuisine, and Healthy Choice. I often add vegetables to them and prceed to cook them, such as waterchestnuts to the Asian dinners or tuna to tuna noodles au gratin. That way they are more filling. Adding fruit as a dessert makes them more satisfying too.

So all in all, it's never a perfect world for me. I don't eat all natural. I don't eat all junk or processed either. I blend and am picky about what I blend. It's up to you to find your balance and what works for you. Take all the diet books you've ever read, all the exercise information, blend it together, toss out what you hate and you have your custom lifestyle.

Life is happening now, not 10 pounds from now. ~Indygirl

I also realize this signals a long weekend of moving things out of the house (now my daughters house) and into the rv but we have a home! I can enjoy my daughters company again, she can now completely set up house , and the kids can have their own space. So I guess you could say "We're so excited" emoticon ......

In our stores they are on the beverage isle with the drink mixes like margarita mix....... They are in a long clear straw package hanging on a clip attached to the shelves.

I have been good about getting in my water. I drink 4 bottles a day plus my decaf coffee and tea. I have to admit that I have not been good about my food choices though. My weight and my blood glucose levels are suffering from it too. I know all the right things I should be doing but I haven't been doing them! emoticon

DLYNN .... This may sound crazy, but what about the really long straws they sell for hurricane bar drinks? They are about 2 foot long and you could trim them to fit your bottles ????
They sell them in the grocery stores here in Texas.

ok, so I finally updated my weight with what the new scale I got says which really bummed me out because it makes it looks like I had a large gain when nothing else has changed. So I feel like I'm starting over with this new scale, but onward we go. On the lookout for extra long straws that will fit in bottles of water so I can put a bottle or 2 in the freezer before I go out and then it will stay cold while out running errands in the heat and won't need to stop for diet soda.

I have probably said this before but the doctor want's me drinking 1/2 my body weight in water. So just take your weight, divide it in half, and that's the amount of ounces you should be drinking daily. For me that's 164 oz's

I had to take myself off soda. When I drink soda, I don't want water at all! But, I'm struggling, too! My goal is 6 cups a day and I'm lucky to get in 5!!! I should be drinking much more!!

I need to up my water intake... have just today noticed that I am not drinking as much as usual. Usually end up filling the Brita pitcher daily.. past few days has been going 2 days sometimes 3 before I need to refill it. Don't know why my water drinking is down. Maybe just been too busy and drinking too much diet pepsi while out running errands. Gotta break that habit, but I like something cold to drink while I'm out and drinking out of a bottle while driving is hard...so much easier to stop at the drive thru and get an ice cold drink while it has been so warm.

Linda .... I am suppose to be doing water aerobics and walking but as inexpensive as it is, it's still more than I can afford at the moment. It does make me feel so much better when I do go. I have been thinking about going more toward vegetables lately.... emoticon

The RV place is trying to track out tank ordered for our trailer. MAYBE we will hear something soon about the missing tank. emoticon

My kidney function is slightly ascue. My mom recently passed away from kidney failure and being unable to continue dialysis. I don't want to end up like her!

I am seeing my doctor in the morning and will talk with him about going more vegan and see what he says. I'm willing to do whatever I need to do to NOT end up like my mother!

I am right there with you! I feel listless and am trying to look in the mirror and love who I see. I have started a partial vegetarian diet for weight loss. Eating vegetarian has helped my kidney function, so it agrees with me and my doctors have approved it. I hope to join a water aerobics class soon. Need a bathing suit.. that is a huge step for me.
I have a sprained Achilles tendon and lower back pain. I have not been walking like I used to because of the tendon and I really was on a good roll before that happened two months ago.

I posted on one of the teams I lead that I feel like a fraud and am afraid to call for help when I need it! That's a hard one to get by! At least you are calling for help!! Good for you!

I also understand the back pain. I have a pinched nerve that I've been trying to get better since December. I can only stand for about 5 minutes then must sit as well. I miss the days where I could go out and walk or go to the malls and window shop. I miss being able to grocery shop without having to use an electric cart (though I'm very grateful for them!).

I looked through SP's exercise demos and tried to find some that would strengthen my core muscles and were ones that I could do. I've been trying to do them several times a week. It hasn't helped much yet, but I've noticed that I can do the exercises a little easier and that gives me hope that one day I'll be able to stand for more than 5 minutes again!!

Keep looking around and seeing what you ARE capable of doing and then DO it!!! You are worth it!

And one thing we've both learned is to not take walking and standing for granted any more!!! emoticon

PS. Don't look at them as "failures!" They are failures only if you let them stop you! You are still here - so you haven't stopped! They are opportunities for growth! (Should I take of my rose-colored glasses now???) emoticon

Thank you Beverly, and I know you are all here for me as we are all here for each other. I just want to be honest with my success AND the failures in my life.

I have big plans for three years from now and I look at that plan and what MUST be accomplished between here and there and it just seems so un-surmountable when I look at the fact that just standing in place long enough to load the dishwasher and wash the pots and pans from dinner is to much for me to do and I have to have a chair to sit in off and on until my back stops hurting and I can finish everything.

It's depressing trying to get a plan into place when just standing for 5 minutes is to much for my body to bare. Then of course there is putting said plan into action and everyone around you keeps hitting life at a full pace and I have to stop and sit while they go on or even worse, they stop and wait with me. Then I feel upset and guilty because you can tell the children are anxious to go and have fun. That's when the worthless feelings come into play. I can't go places alone because I get weak, my blood sugars dip, or I have one of my out o breath sweating episodes that take me 5 minutes to get over.

Most of the time I can get myself through the times like this and trudge on but this time I am really struggling and it seems like just to much to fight..... Of course that makes me ashamed of the smile I plaster on my face for the ones around me or the teams I encourage here on SP. Makes me feel like a fraud.....

Debbie, that is how I started out this last time! I'm moving in a forward direction. Sometimes it's "one step back and two steps forward!" But I'm moving. I have goals written out - but I'm not pushing myself to do them all at once! They are more guidelines of what I want my life to be like. One thing that has helped me this month is really pondering and applying the Mind Over Body Challenge! It has really helped me change my thinking!

We are here for you - as you are here for us! emoticon

I'm starting over with very little energy or conviction this time. Usually I start out strong and sure of getting where I want to be but this time I just don't feel it. I plan to start regardless but my heart and mind just don't seem to be in the game. I'm tired, listless, unsure of my ability. I always start strong and spring forward with what ever plan I take but not this time..... who knows, maybe this time I will succeed.......
