Im sorry its so rough Indygirl....that financial thing is a real pain nowadays. It shouldn't be that way! Im assuming you've checked all resources out..medicade,,etc? Even some hospitals nowadays have their own financial help..but of course if its a 'payback' scenario,,,that doesn't help...I hope things improve. I can see why you need to vent!

STRESSED to the max but hanging in there. My friend was hospitalized and we don't know if she will be okay. Still don't know my husband's biopsy results. Had to put off my shoulder surgery because of finances being so bad after his surgery for an indefinite time. Finances are at an implosion point. Just don't know what to do. I've been praying. Going to see a financial counselor to help us plan so I can get my surgery this year, I hope. The pain is awful. Sadly, they keep giving me corto-steroids to solve the inflammation and it is making me gain weight, I won't let any of it stop me in my tracks though. I've been through tough situations before and God is answering prayers. Thanks for reading/listening. I really needed to vent. ~Beth

Postponing my surgery til at least the end of April on my shoulder. Eating out of frustration and pain, but noting that having healthy foods in the house to nosh on cuts the weight gain side effect of said eating. IF you just have to eat, eat the healthiest versions possible.

10 pounds is fantastic! emoticon

Wow, God sure is putting on a fantastic display of beauty this morning!
Suns shining, birds are singing, the air is cool and crisp, the breezes are blowing, everything has been washed clean during the rain, and the sky's are blue and completely cloud free.....
What a great start to the week!

I managed to gain 2 pounds back last week. I can't say I wasn't irritated, disappointed, or angry with myself for letting life take me down again. I had an unbelievable week of stress with mom and as always, I turned to food as my comfort zone. My "go too" when life beats me down again and again. But with every set back I have I learn something new.....

So here is to a new week and new beautiful morning!

There will be a potluck after church today. Hopefully, there will be plenty of salads to choose from. I think I'll pack some high-protein snacks to make sure I'm not hungry when it comes time to fill my plate.

Doctor results: Cyst in my shoulder joint the size of an orange. Needs to be removed along with part of the joint and part of the collar bone. Knee caps off center, bad arthritis, possible tear in the meniscus, some bone on bone activity, and spurs. Surgery in the future. Need to lose more weight and strengthen shoulders first. Husbands colon cancer is possibly back, biopsy and removal is in two weeks. We can use prayers to get through this and prayers about how we are going to pay the medical bills.

Sorry to have been off the map lately. DD and her family were living in a house rented to them by a relative of DD's hubby. Lets make a very long story short and just tell you the end part of the deal. The furnace quit working and when they told her, she kicked them out. No there is nothing they can legally do about it unless we had access to lots of money for a high powered attorney to fight her attorney. They have moved in with us and I have been babysitting their two kidlets for a few hours each day and am exhausted! We are all having to make adjustments and it takes energy and time. We are working it out day by day though!

Far as my weight goes... Last month I dropped only a little over a pound but at least there was no gain! I am doing pretty well now but I was overeating and having a bit of a poor pitiful me, it's not worth it anymore time. I had hit a plateau and that had me down then the stress of getting DD and her family out of the freezing cold house they were in hit ... I got really lazy about cooking due to getting so tired I just didn't care much about what I put in my face as long as I didn't have to cook it! I'm over all that now and getting back on track.

Sorry to hear about health issues. I know what you mean about not being able to determine if it's an injury, arthritis, or fibro. I've been told I have surgery induced fibro from a neck surgery a few years ago. I have to be very careful when trying to lift light weights.I think it's the repetitions. Yes, keeping any weight close to the body when lifting is good.Even when carrying groceries keeping them up and close to the body. I also have some bulging discs in lower back.

I'm thankful too for the good days.

Beth so sorry to hear of your health issues. I have a torn rotator cuff and had physical therapy to help with range of motion. It really did help to do those exercises but I will never be able to handle anything heavy. When I do lift any weight at all I keep my arm close to my body and that helps.
There are days when it hurts but never know if it's the fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, or the rotator cuff. I am just thankful for all of the good days and that I do so well most of the time.

Sorry I'm MIA again. Many Doctor appointments. Shoulder- rotator cuff. Knee- torn meniscus. Back- well, too much to list. Anyway, I'm getting the lowdown on the shoulder today. Trying hard not to derail healthy eating habits because they keep things from breaking down further. They also help me feel my optimum.

That's awesome, BlueJay1969~ both the gift of a dishwasher and a wonderful husband!

I'm on Day 3 of tracking, returning to SP for a total overhaul! So far, I've been doing fairly well. Since I'm also trying to overcome insomnia, my sleep schedule is way out of balance. So the first couple days, my calories were below minimum because I skipped a meal or two.

Yesterday evening, hubby decided at surprise me a rib tip dinner. I decided I would splurge guilt-free, knowing that this isn't the healthiest choice. I noticed that I got full more quickly, and I did experience a little heartburn from the meal. Before, when eating mindlessly, I probably wouldn't think twice.

I feel that my mind is starting to make the switch to "healthy mode". All the healthy habits I learned before are flooding back as I regain control. Soon, I know I'll be able to plan healthy choices if we choose to dine out, but most likely I'll use that money to make a special meal at home where I can control the ingredients. Hubby can help with some of the prep, too! emoticon

I am getting a new dishwasher for Valentine's Day! It will be delivered this morning I keep wanting to say tomorrow but it's already 1 am and that means it's today! DH and I do not really "do" things for Valentines day other than get really mushy and look at each other a lot and say I Love You 20 times during the day! I am fortunate that that is a daily occurrence even after 28 years of marriage! There are times when we have gone to dinner or he has gotten me my favorite flowers (carnations) but we don't "have" to do those things to be assured of a special day!

Just had a "change of hunger" after lunch when it turned from physical hunger to emotional head hunger. I was suddenly disappointed when I missed an opportunity to do a useful work for the local mission and felt GUILT, BIG TIME. No one even expected me to show up, so the problem was one of my own making. I'm so glad I read your comment, Beth, about your head hunger because it made me stop and figure out what was wrong!!! AMAZING isn't it? Now that I know the problem, I'm not hungry anymore!

Having a fairly good day today, save wanting to eat everything in sight! Or out of sight for that matter. (nibbles on the computer, but decides it's just too hard.)

Yes, I still have these days. They remind me to keep crunching down the veggies, drinking the water, adding the fruit, taking my cinnamon/chromium 2000 capsules, and planning my meals ever 3-4 hours around healthy protein, carbs, and fats. They keep me on my toes- vigilant and not cocky.

These days also remind me that there are TWO kinds of hunger, head hunger and body hunger. What I'm having is head hunger. How do I know? I don't want to eat the veggies and fruit. A truly hungry person would eat anything. It is really helpful to know the difference because head hunger won't be cured with the above suggestions. Only physical hunger will. For head hunger, you have to figure out if it's emotional, boredom eating, night eating, binge eating, compulsive eating... My best suggestion is in any of those cases- RELOCATE YOURSELF. Go in another room, not the kitchen, go to a friend's house, go shopping, go for a workout, go to the zoo, go anywhere you won't be tempted to eat or RELOCATE the FOOD you are about to eat- throw it out. It isn't a waste. Either you wast it on your body or in the trash. In the trash is better because it saves you the trouble of working it off. Remember- Never treat your body like a garbage disposal for leftovers... that saves calories from random head eating too!

If you can't relocate, then DISTRACT with anything and everything. Phone? TV? Pet? Friend? Spouse? Game? Bath? Laundry? Spark?

Be sure you keep your physical hunger at bay with a healthy menu.
Eat often enough to stay full, every 4 hours.
Keep your home a clean zone so that when head hunger hits, you don't have anything to dive into that is totally dangerous to your goals.
Have a plan in mind for head hunger.

Well, I finally have meds adjusted. A tooth root canaled. Three fillings. They think they may have found the reason for the heart palpitations and kidney issues as being hyper parathyroidism- a tumor on my parathyroid gland. I go to an endo crinologist to find out for sure in April. I've been feeling soooo crummy for the last year, that it isn't even funny. Just hoping they figure this thing out and get me back to pseudo normal.

You know, this last week, I started strength training with weight machines for the first time in 20 years... OUCH in a good way. If you can't use your legs, arm bikes like the Magnetrainer are GREAT! Chair exercises are fantastic! See chairexercisefun.com or Coach Nicole has some great stiff out there now.

I'm drinking my whey protein shakes daily because I don't take in enough otherwise.
I take a greens supplement now in addition to my fruits and veggies.
I still take my cinnamon and chromium 2000.
I'm on vitamin D3000, magnesium, calcium, coq10, pqq, coconut oil, bq12 and complex liquid, turmeric, and Alive multivitamins. I would like to say I take Omegas, but I get them via additives in milk and flax.

My eating program is simple-
TRACK- even if I go over
Keep foods as natural as I can
Order one size smaller than I want to
Avoid high fructose corn syrup
NEVER allow trigger foods in the house- go out and eat them if I have to have them

Drink water
Lemon water- Like 4 lemons to a quart sliced is very helpful in eliminating water weight

MOST OF THE WORK IN LOSING WEIGHT IS IN YOUR HEAD! The things above are just the stuff you have to DO. The real work is making yourself behave the way you know you should.
What you have to remember is:

Take every choice one at a time.
Use the word IMMEDIATELY as in I will immediately turn this around, not get back on track tomorrow. By tomorrow, you may have a pound or two more damage done.
Don't eat something just so you won't binge on it later. Yes, been there.
It takes less effort to just work out than to keep putting it off and feel crappy and depressed about not working out and then binge over your not working out.
One slice of pizza always has less calories than two.
Something is always better than nothing.
YOU deserve good food! Quit wasting your money on crappy MCDonalds and junk and justifying it and then saying you have no money for healthy food. That SAME money could buy healthy food. We are just programmed to buy what is bad for us as a treat and NOT what is good for us as a treat. Start buying yourself something healthy and decadent for a treat. Been there and done that too.
Don't take water pills to lose weight because you can't pee out a pizza.
You have to change your life before you can change your weight, not the other way around.

I hope my tips help someone. They were hard won.

Today is my 50th birthday and I celebrate not with just a piece of cake, but with the knowledge that I am happier and healthier than I was at 40 weighing 230 pounds more. Thank you SparkPeople and thanks to all of you who have cheered me on and supported me.
Now my goal is to get into the 100's by my next birthday and gain some muscle.

I love old favorite songs to work out to.... I won't let myself listen to them unless I'm working out. Seriously, so it's like a treat! And I make them the most addictive of my favorite songs so I want to hear the next and the next and I keep working out lol.

Sorry I have been MIA. I've had a depressive episode due to seasonal affective disorder and bipolar that has been rough! Prayers are appreciated! I'm doing better, as my doctor found 2 medicines that I was put on a few months ago that could have knocked things out of balance and took me off of them. She also added a new anti depressant, so here is hoping...

I downloaded some great workout tunes from the 80's - my kind of music - and I played it yesterday while I did my chores so I was bebopping and shaking my bootie all over the place! I loved it. Going to do that each day. Today will probably be a shorter exercise day as I did a ton yesterday and the day before and I'm sore!

I'm up too Deb - I am holding water and since I hit peri-menopause I have no idea if it's my TOM or what the heck but it could be that I started drinking a fiber supplement (equate metamucil stuff) and could be holding onto water that way. Not sure but I'm drinking my gazillion cups a day like usual and only dumping about half of it! I've also been eating at the high range of my calories but that has never put the weight on me before....
