I am Jumping in! I have been on this team for a long time. I don't think I have posted that much.. so bogged down in self pity and defeat that I have not been proactive in my own life in well over a year. I am ready to change all that. Beth is a huge inspiration. I need to be inspired.

I am committed to me..really committed to me for the first time, in like EVER!

OH boy!
Tomorrow we start packing up moms apartment. I DO NOT look forward to that invasion of her privacy.... emoticon

I wish there was another way but I have been told from just about everyone that ( IF ) I were to take her home to go through her stuff she would sit down and refuse to leave and ( IF ) I had her picked up then she might get hurt or set up a terrible public show of noise and anger! emoticon

So the plan is to box each dresser and label all the contents so that we know where everything is that she might want. I plan to put all the bedroom boxes up front in the storage so that we can get to them easier. She seems to have most of her cherished goodies in the bedroom.
I just pray she settles down and in her mind, forgives me for the betrayal she feels I have committed.... emoticon While trying to keep her safe

But HEY! Great Exercise for the next 4 day's! emoticon emoticon

to all of you with back pain:

2 simple exercises for help with the pain. you can do them sitting or lying down. I have been known to do them in my car at stoplights!

#1 - tighten butt cheeks, squeeze abdominal musicle tight, and push down so your pushing your tight butt into the floor or chair. loosen. repeat 10 times.

#2 - sit up straight, bend forward and try to grab your arms below your knees. pull your abs forward and hold for 10 seconds. loosen and sit up atraight. repeat 10 times.

my PT and back doctor gave me these exercises. they really help, especially in cold weather when everything seems to tighten up. I hope they work for you!

Hello Beth.I read your recent blog about avoiding binges. There are all good ideas. BUT how did you find the strength, motivation, inspiration to fight a binge. Those tips work for me when i am ok, but when a binge comes, it feels like a tornado and i feel overwhelmed and give in.

Beth and all of you who have been successful, please tell me what helped you then.
Thank you in advance.

Had to have 2 more steroid shots, so my weight jumped up a bit. Had to fight it back down. How? Fresh fruits and veggies and lots of lean protein sources. I cut out the fake carbs and stick to natural carbs like fruit, potato, peas, you get the drift. It isn't that I say NEVER to fake foods... processed foods. I say sometimes. I just don't let them into the house and make myself go out of the house to get them and eat them there. That way, it's more of a pain in the neck to eat processed junk food.

Processed food I do let into the house includes lean frozen entrees like Smart Ones, Lean Cuisine, and Healthy Choice. I often add vegetables to them and prceed to cook them, such as waterchestnuts to the Asian dinners or tuna to tuna noodles au gratin. That way they are more filling. Adding fruit as a dessert makes them more satisfying too.

So all in all, it's never a perfect world for me. I don't eat all natural. I don't eat all junk or processed either. I blend and am picky about what I blend. It's up to you to find your balance and what works for you. Take all the diet books you've ever read, all the exercise information, blend it together, toss out what you hate and you have your custom lifestyle.

Life is happening now, not 10 pounds from now. ~Indygirl

We are leaving to pick up our RV! emoticon

emoticon I'm so excited and I just can't hide it! emoticon
I'm about to loose control and I think I like it! emoticon

I also realize this signals a long weekend of moving things out of the house (now my daughters house) and into the rv but we have a home! I can enjoy my daughters company again, she can now completely set up house , and the kids can have their own space. So I guess you could say "We're so excited" emoticon ......

I pray you all have as happy and joyful a morning as we are! emoticon

In our stores they are on the beverage isle with the drink mixes like margarita mix....... They are in a long clear straw package hanging on a clip attached to the shelves.

I have been good about getting in my water. I drink 4 bottles a day plus my decaf coffee and tea. I have to admit that I have not been good about my food choices though. DLYNN .... This may sound crazy, but what about the really long straws they sell for hurricane bar drinks? They are about 2 foot long and you could trim them to fit your bottles ????
They sell them in the grocery stores here in Texas.

ok, so I finally updated my weight with what the new scale I got says which really bummed me out because it makes it looks like I had a large gain when nothing else has changed. So I feel like I'm starting over with this new scale, but onward we go. On the lookout for extra long straws that will fit in bottles of water so I can put a bottle or 2 in the freezer before I go out and then it will stay cold while out running errands in the heat and won't need to stop for diet soda.

I have probably said this before but the doctor want's me drinking 1/2 my body weight in water. So just take your weight, divide it in half, and that's the amount of ounces you should be drinking daily. For me that's 164 oz's

I had to take myself off soda. When I drink soda, I don't want water at all! But, I'm struggling, too! My goal is 6 cups a day and I'm lucky to get in 5!!! I should be drinking much more!!

I need to up my water intake... have just today noticed that I am not drinking as much as usual. Usually end up filling the Brita pitcher daily.. past few days has been going 2 days sometimes 3 before I need to refill it. Don't know why my water drinking is down. Maybe just been too busy and drinking too much diet pepsi while out running errands. Gotta break that habit, but I like something cold to drink while I'm out and drinking out of a bottle while driving is hard...so much easier to stop at the drive thru and get an ice cold drink while it has been so warm.

Linda .... I am suppose to be doing water aerobics and walking but as inexpensive as it is, it's still more than I can afford at the moment. It does make me feel so much better when I do go. I have been thinking about going more toward vegetables lately.... emoticon

The RV place is trying to track out tank ordered for our trailer. MAYBE we will hear something soon about the missing tank. emoticon

My kidney function is slightly ascue. My mom recently passed away from kidney failure and being unable to continue dialysis. I don't want to end up like her!

I am seeing my doctor in the morning and will talk with him about going more vegan and see what he says. I'm willing to do whatever I need to do to NOT end up like my mother!

I am right there with you! I feel listless and am trying to look in the mirror and love who I see. I have started a partial vegetarian diet for weight loss. Eating vegetarian has helped my kidney function, so it agrees with me and my doctors have approved it. I hope to join a water aerobics class soon. Need a bathing suit.. that is a huge step for me.
I have a sprained Achilles tendon and lower back pain. I have not been walking like I used to because of the tendon and I really was on a good roll before that happened two months ago.

I posted on one of the teams I lead that I feel like a fraud and am afraid to call for help when I need it! That's a hard one to get by! At least you are calling for help!! Good for you!

I also understand the back pain. I have a pinched nerve that I've been trying to get better since December. I can only stand for about 5 minutes then must sit as well. I miss the days where I could go out and walk or go to the malls and window shop. I miss being able to grocery shop without having to use an electric cart (though I'm very grateful for them!).

I looked through SP's exercise demos and tried to find some that would strengthen my core muscles and were ones that I could do. I've been trying to do them several times a week. It hasn't helped much yet, but I've noticed that I can do the exercises a little easier and that gives me hope that one day I'll be able to stand for more than 5 minutes again!!

Keep looking around and seeing what you ARE capable of doing and then DO it!!! You are worth it!

And one thing we've both learned is to not take walking and standing for granted any more!!! emoticon

PS. Don't look at them as "failures!" They are failures only if you let them stop you! You are still here - so you haven't stopped! They are opportunities for growth! (Should I take of my rose-colored glasses now???) emoticon

Thank you Beverly, and I know you are all here for me as we are all here for each other. I just want to be honest with my success AND the failures in my life.

I have big plans for three years from now and I look at that plan and what MUST be accomplished between here and there and it just seems so un-surmountable when I look at the fact that just standing in place long enough to load the dishwasher and wash the pots and pans from dinner is to much for me to do and I have to have a chair to sit in off and on until my back stops hurting and I can finish everything.

It's depressing trying to get a plan into place when just standing for 5 minutes is to much for my body to bare. Then of course there is putting said plan into action and everyone around you keeps hitting life at a full pace and I have to stop and sit while they go on or even worse, they stop and wait with me. Then I feel upset and guilty because you can tell the children are anxious to go and have fun. That's when the worthless feelings come into play. I can't go places alone because I get weak, my blood sugars dip, or I have one of my out o breath sweating episodes that take me 5 minutes to get over.

Most of the time I can get myself through the times like this and trudge on but this time I am really struggling and it seems like just to much to fight..... Of course that makes me ashamed of the smile I plaster on my face for the ones around me or the teams I encourage here on SP. Makes me feel like a fraud.....

Debbie, that is how I started out this last time! I'm moving in a forward direction. Sometimes it's "one step back and two steps forward!" But I'm moving. I have goals written out - but I'm not pushing myself to do them all at once! They are more guidelines of what I want my life to be like. One thing that has helped me this month is really pondering and applying the Mind Over Body Challenge! It has really helped me change my thinking!

We are here for you - as you are here for us! emoticon

I'm starting over with very little energy or conviction this time. Usually I start out strong and sure of getting where I want to be but this time I just don't feel it. I plan to start regardless but my heart and mind just don't seem to be in the game. I'm tired, listless, unsure of my ability. I always start strong and spring forward with what ever plan I take but not this time..... who knows, maybe this time I will succeed.......

I was very tired today and sore. I didn't want to just lay around and eat though. I went to pick up a prescription and the pharmacist asked how I was. I told her how exhausted I felt. She suggested water. SURE, I thought... but I drank some anyway... quite a bit and I DID feel better, especially after I paired it with fruit.

Just wanted to say hello to everyone and hope they are all doing great! It was a beautiful northern Michigan weekend, little rain but some sunshine for a change. Loved it. Got lots of yard work done and used some extra calories. Wow, I loved your new pictures Indygirl from the Grand Canyon. They are beautiful and so are you. Hugs, Jude

I agree with all about the wall. But look at it in a positive way. Maybe we will see something that we wouldn't have seen if it was on the huddle wall. This way we can be a little more personal. We have to give it a chance so lets just do it. :) Hugs, Jude

I can't get on to yak very often but when I stop by for a pick me up it is always interesting to see what is on the agenda. You girls are so cool and such a lot of good advise. My husband is going through the eat and learn process also and it is so very difficult to know what to cook and what the outcome will be. The charcoal is an interesting idea and I am sure going to check it out. Thanks much. Good Luck for a healthy day. Hugs, Jude

One time, after a sudden cramp attack, I drank Tazo Chamomile tea along with pepto bismol. It eased the cramps to a stop in about 1 hour. Now, I do it everytime and it works wonders.

I;ve read about the many positive effects of the chamomile. Also, I've read about the active charcoal that acts as an sponge to absorb toxins in the gut, although I've never tried it. But I will buy some to see how it helps. There are some SP members that write about it.

I can't tolerate cooked cabbage or cooked broccoli. But, I can eat it raw. That's so weird. Now I can't eat mushrooms. I had gall bladder surgery 4 yrs ago. Since then, this has happened.

There for a long time I was being treated for allergic reactions with the swelling of my tongue and throat from something I had eaten. Apparently a lot of the reactions were actually acid reflux causing the sides of my tongue to become red, sore, angry, and swollen.....

Tomato products and milk products seam to make it all worse. I ADORE pastas and all pasta sauces but it doesn't seem to be in my future! emoticon

Debbie, I can't eat any of those either broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage and chinese food I never have been able to... it has always bothered me. But I am used to eating spaghetti weekly!!!!!!!! It is our Christmas meal tradition... Lasagna. Now since December I can't eat any kind of tomatoes or anything with tomatoes in them. I am just thankful for the IBS diagnosis and that the biopsies didn't come back positive for cancer or colitis since the symptoms are all the same. I just wish there was an easy way to figure it all out...on days I don't want to deal with it, I eat oatmeal all day... I know that is safe. emoticon

Craftsfan... thats how I am... I can eat salad fine one day, but if I eat it another day I am between the bed and the bathroom all day.... someone told me a Dr. Oz article said with IBS you should eat no whole grains, not a lot of leafy greens or beans.... I'm like great... everything you SHOULD eat when trying to lose weight!!!! emoticon My dr said it's pretty much trial and error... if it bothers me don't eat it. I thought it was odd how quick it came on, but he didn't think so... have had a lot of changes and stressors that I have dealt with, and he said a lot of women get it as they age. I thought it was more a young persons diagnosis. But... God will get me through.... teaching me patience if nothing else. emoticon

Have a wonderful weekend all!

I feel a little bit proud: four days in a row in my calorie range. Tomorrow is my weight day. Whatever the scale says, is going to be my beginning weight. Definitely, my beginning weight for this year is less than my beginning weight from last year. Therefore I am in better shape.

emoticon emoticon DLYNN1113. I am sorry to hear that you have IBS. On the bright side, if there's one, at least you have a diagnosis and now you are near to know what to do about it and how to handle it.

I had always a wonderful and amazing stomach. Now, I don't want to say that is due to my age, since I am very old, but sometimes my stomach acts weird and at random. One day it doesn't tolerate beans, and another day, it tolerates them with singular joy. ???

I'm so sorry to hear this for you! Seams like when the doctors can't find a cause they file our problems under IBS .... I can't tolerate corn, broccoli, or cabbage, and I LOVE all those.

MrsAlliekat I've just finally been diagnosed with IBS after all my other biopsies came back negative, which I am praising God for!!! Have been having a lot of stomach issues... MD said it's pretty much just a try and see what bothers me game... so far I've discovered too much salad and tomatoes of any kind put me in bed with horrible stomach cramps, and frequent runs to the bathroom. Right now I'm mourning the loss of eating spaghetti... it's not worth the pain for this italian girl, but I guess it's good weight wise...I guess this will be quite a learning curve for me. A lot of people I have talked to with IBS tend to have diverticulosis with it too, mine is all throughout my system, which he says could add to the pain. Anyway, I don't think juicing would be good for me, I'd never get out of the bathroom. emoticon

ok, I don't like these new pages either. And the wall really confuses me with posts from 1000 days ago??? I liked reading the huddle scrolls when I was having a bad day, they all helped remind me others are out there too. emoticon

MRSALLIEKAT .... It's basically a matter of personal preference. Some people lose weight at a faster pace and can use those extra calories to boost them along during the day, and others have difficulty getting the calories balanced enough to have the weight continue to recede. I usually stay with the calorie range I'm given and allow the extra calories o boost my weight loss.....

DEB_NC .... I'm still checking things out here but I kind of miss the availability to view the team blogs as well. I am bad at best at taking time to leave comments on each blog but I do like to see them.....

I don't know about you, but I do not like the new formats for the team pages. Have you noticed that there is no huddle/blog walls anymore? I looked forward to reading team members blogs especially. Being that teams have a large number of members, it made it so easy to locate their blogs on your individual teams. I hope spark brings that back.

I was wondering. How many others include their exercise calories burned with their calorie allotment for the day? I hope that makes sense. I am able to have a larger calorie allotment depending on the exercise I do and I was wondering how many others do that? I'm not sure if it's the right thing to do or not. I like it don't get me wrong but I'm not sure if it's going to be beneficial. Any opinions? Thank you.

that's great to know. I didn't realize Quinoa had a lot of protein. I just picked some up the other day to try. :) It looks like you can do a lot with it.

I like Quinoa a lot and with my wheat sensitivity and allergies to rice, barley, and rye, it fits perfectly as a substitute for grain....

I learned that some leafy greens are packed with protein like KALE.

QUINOA is the grain with complete protein.

I did juicing for a while but my IBS couldn't handle all the pure juice so I had to cut back. Anyway, my concern was not enough protein. After much research there is actually a lot of protein in plants. Plant based protein is the best for you. Kale is one of the best sources. There is a Documentary called FAT SICK AND NEARLY DEAD. That's what got me juicing in the first place. It's very interesting. Not to say anyone should go juice only. but saying that perhaps looking into how you could get more plant based protein into your diet. I have heard and read a lot about animal protein as well lately and in fact it talks a lot about it in that documentary. It really is bad for us. Including dairy, eggs, cheese, and anything that comes from our living breathing creatures that we eat. There is another documentary on Net Flix called VEGUCATED.. It's another very good doc to watch if interested. I think you can find Fat Sick and nearly dead for free right on his website. Just google it. I did get the bright idea I was going to drink nothing but juice like this guy did and be thin by summer but, think again. lol. about a week later I was in my bathtub curled up in a ball from stomach pain because come to find out later that the gases from the juice just don't bread down in my belly normally. (I have had a lot of stomach issues over the past five years) Gastritis, IBS, diverticulits/osis, and I was hospitalized and had emergency surgery due to a twisted and perforated bowel. OUCH.. This has made my stomach very sensitive to say the least. So, I feel like I have to do it the old fashioned way. However. I am going to really try harder to cut out more meat and other animal products. I wish I could go vegan. I just don't know what I would eat. :)

I try to get my protein from chicken, nuts, yogurt, and tuna often but I still like some red meat. I get really confused because of all the information out there. I don't believe in the Atkins approach and I need to learn more about the Mediterranean Diet. They say the Dash Diet is supposed to be one of the healthiest too. (When I say diet, I really mean food plan.)
I use my Diabetic Food Plan to follow carbs, etc. but nothing is easy it seems.

Good Morning,
Beth I received this in my email this morning. I found it interesting and thought how funny that this was your subject today and then I thought I would copy it so you could dig deeper and investigate emoticon

Mediterranean Diet Book
Did you know that every additional 10 grams of animal protein you consume each day you'll increase your chance of developing diabetes by six percent?

According to recent results published in the journal Diabetes Care, people who eat too much animal protein have an increased risk of developing Diabetes.

And the diabetes risk appears to be strongest among obese women.

Let’s face it, the majority of us eat about twice as much protein as we should.

And a higher intake of animal protein often comes along with other nasty nutrients such as saturated fat, bad cholesterol and toxic sodium.

It's probably a good idea to replace some red meat with healthy nuts, white meats, beans or whole grains. (Especially if you have a family history of diabetes)

HUGS!

I'm working on adding more protein to my diet. Not cutting carbs perse, but adding protein. It is supposed to be very filling, keeps you satisfied, helps you build lean muscle, and encourages weight loss naturally.

To tell you the truth though, I don't want to go eat a ton of meat, so I will probably do Nectar Sweets protein mix.

I need to really do what I was doing last year: cut the sodium. I don't know why I thought that I had permission to introduce the sodium back to my life, since I am not getting any younger or healthier that my body is able to handle big amounts of sodium without rising the BP.

I rinsed the canned beans, olives, and many other canned foods. I limited to the minimum eating deli meats. I didn't use the salt shaker. I read the labels to check the sodium content.

I received a comment on my blog that was GENIUS! Just what I needed to ask myself to give myself strength when fighting emotional eating- I call it emo eating.

How will getting fat (again) help?

WOW POWERFUL! I thought about the situations that are getting me down and none of them would be easier if I gained weight. They would be harder. Why? Because I recently regained my ability to walk and my freedom from a wheelchair. I need to stay thinner to take care of myself and my husband, whether he has cancer or not. I just now started working again and I need to stay mobile to do that. I do SparkPeople Rallies and I REALLY enjoy that part of my life. That too would go away of I got fat again. So everything I have worked so hard for= a life, would go away of I got fat again and I would once again lie in my bed waiting to die. Not going to happen.

SO WHAT IS IT YOU WANT MORE THAN FOOD?

I went back to thank the person for their comment, and the comment was either gone, or I couldn't find it. So thank you and all of the rest of you who said prayers, offered advice and care. I know I communicate in blogs most of the time, rather than individually. That's because I care about so many of you and I just don't have time to write each of you. I also want to encourage anyone and everyone who may happen across my blogs. My dream is that my blogs reach people in bed, just like I was, bedridden, who feel hopeless, and they learn that they too can do something... maybe not everything. Something is always better than nothing.

I feel lifted up and strong today! Woohoo! Let's do this!

Hoping like everyone else that the news will be good, that there is no cancer. However, keep in mind that if there is cancer present, they have made great strides at curing cancer and treating it has improved a great deal. You have my prayers.
