HI BETH, THANK YOU FOR THE TIPS. I HAVE BEEN DRINKING HOT WATER WITH LEMON FOR YEARS NOW .. I READ IT IS SUPPOSE TO BE GOOD FOR YOUR DIGESTION AND LIVER. ALSO I READ IF YOU DRINK HOT LIQUIDS WITH YOUR MEALS IT KEPT PLAQUE FROM STICKING TO YOUR ARTERIES. DON'T KNOW IF THAT IS TRUE. BUT IT DOES NOT HAVE CAFFEINE OR SUGAR IN IT.

NEVER GIVE UP!!

Where others live in the house... I make my hubby keep his treats locked up or in his car actually. Any chance of that happening at your house?

You know, this last week, I started strength training with weight machines for the first time in 20 years... OUCH in a good way. If you can't use your legs, arm bikes like the Magnetrainer are GREAT! Chair exercises are fantastic! See chairexercisefun.com or Coach Nicole has some great stiff out there now.

I'm drinking my whey protein shakes daily because I don't take in enough otherwise.
I take a greens supplement now in addition to my fruits and veggies.
I still take my cinnamon and chromium 2000.
I'm on vitamin D3000, magnesium, calcium, coq10, pqq, coconut oil, bq12 and complex liquid, turmeric, and Alive multivitamins. I would like to say I take Omegas, but I get them via additives in milk and flax.

My eating program is simple-
TRACK- even if I go over
Keep foods as natural as I can
Order one size smaller than I want to
Avoid high fructose corn syrup
NEVER allow trigger foods in the house- go out and eat them if I have to have them

Drink water
Lemon water- Like 4 lemons to a quart sliced is very helpful in eliminating water weight

MOST OF THE WORK IN LOSING WEIGHT IS IN YOUR HEAD! The things above are just the stuff you have to DO. The real work is making yourself behave the way you know you should.
What you have to remember is:

Take every choice one at a time.
Use the word IMMEDIATELY as in I will immediately turn this around, not get back on track tomorrow. By tomorrow, you may have a pound or two more damage done.
Don't eat something just so you won't binge on it later. Yes, been there.
It takes less effort to just work out than to keep putting it off and feel crappy and depressed about not working out and then binge over your not working out.
One slice of pizza always has less calories than two.
Something is always better than nothing.
YOU deserve good food! Quit wasting your money on crappy MCDonalds and junk and justifying it and then saying you have no money for healthy food. That SAME money could buy healthy food. We are just programmed to buy what is bad for us as a treat and NOT what is good for us as a treat. Start buying yourself something healthy and decadent for a treat. Been there and done that too.
Don't take water pills to lose weight because you can't pee out a pizza.
You have to change your life before you can change your weight, not the other way around.

I hope my tips help someone. They were hard won.

Today is my 50th birthday and I celebrate not with just a piece of cake, but with the knowledge that I am happier and healthier than I was at 40 weighing 230 pounds more. Thank you SparkPeople and thanks to all of you who have cheered me on and supported me.
Now my goal is to get into the 100's by my next birthday and gain some muscle.

Life is happening now, not 10 pounds from now. ~Indygirl

I love old favorite songs to work out to.... I won't let myself listen to them unless I'm working out. Seriously, so it's like a treat! And I make them the most addictive of my favorite songs so I want to hear the next and the next and I keep working out lol.

Sorry I have been MIA. I've had a depressive episode due to seasonal affective disorder and bipolar that has been rough! Prayers are appreciated! I'm doing better, as my doctor found 2 medicines that I was put on a few months ago that could have knocked things out of balance and took me off of them. She also added a new anti depressant, so here is hoping...

I downloaded some great workout tunes from the 80's - my kind of music - and I played it yesterday while I did my chores so I was bebopping and shaking my bootie all over the place! I loved it. Going to do that each day. Today will probably be a shorter exercise day as I did a ton yesterday and the day before and I'm sore!

I'm up too Deb - I am holding water and since I hit peri-menopause I have no idea if it's my TOM or what the heck but it could be that I started drinking a fiber supplement (equate metamucil stuff) and could be holding onto water that way. Not sure but I'm drinking my gazillion cups a day like usual and only dumping about half of it! I've also been eating at the high range of my calories but that has never put the weight on me before....

I also used to do mindless munching but have pretty much curbed it. I will fix a 100 calorie bag of popcorn and munch it when I really MUST have a munchie type snack. At least that way it's controlled!

I want a Cookie- Bargaining- Holidays and the Food Demon by Beth Donovan

The Holidays have foods galore sparking around like ornaments on trees glowing to get our attention. What's worse is these are EMOTIONAL FOODS! They bring back memories of childhood or better times, nostalgia.

So we see, we want. Ask yourself a few questions about EMOTIONAL FOODS:

1) Ask yourself WHAT you are wanting to FEEL. Warm, safe and comforted is usually my answer. During the holidays, nostalgic comes to mind. So how can I come by those same feelings without food? Warm luxury soft blankets, funny favorite movies, scented candles, old photos...

2) IF doing something makes you sad or really uncomfortable, don't do it. Looking through old photos brings back good memories to me, but then I get sad missing people and want to kill the pain with food. It used to be that when I was younger, people would bring up how I needed to lose weight at family dinners. Now, I would shut them down by saying "If you really cared, you would bring this up in private and not at a family dinner." If that didn't work, I would start a new tradition and avoid the negative nellies all together. There is no reason to put yourself in painful situations that make you want to overeat or binge later. Love yourself and protect yourself like you would your child.

3) I want a cookie... Well, if I have one, and I going to eat the whole box? PROBABLY! So here is the trick! Do not under any circumstances allow the whole box into your house if they are cookies you like or unhealthy cookies. Get a single cookie or two from a bakery. Leave the bakery and enjoy. Same with ice cream- don't buy it at the store unless it's single serve. Get it out, where you can only have a little.

4) Don't bargain with yourself. It just ends up badly. Have a plan in mind. Make plans ahead of time when you find pitfalls. For example, I found that I get into the box of cookies if they are in the house. I can't bargain myself down to two cookies. SO I wound up making a RULE that I have to get cookies at the bakery and no more than two. NO bargaining.

The food demon is very tricky and seducing. He lies and tells you you are in control. Then he loads high fructose corn syrup and additives into the foods to make us crave like insane people. Don't be fooled. The more natural a product is, the less processed... the better your body will respond and not crave.

DO THE CHALLENGES & SPARK STREAKS HELP ME? (Little Black Dress emoticon , team, daily question)

The hard thing for me emoticon , I am finding, is when I break a streak or challenge, for what ever reason, I want to give up on all of them! been streaking since I started EVERYDAY emoticon since March 16, 2012! emoticon I made a commitment to Spark DAILY, until I give up on keeping my goal of healthy living! No matter what the scale says, what the tape measure says, just keeping my trackers going, ALWAYS! emoticon ! I found Spark People as an answer to a prayer, 10 minutes after I asked for a solution to my being at an unhealthy weight!

THX to all the SP team mates March 11-17-2012 Who replied to my email! Out of 11,000 members there are only about 100 still Sparking! I'm shocked! Were RU, all? emoticon
I KNOW teams take time, Sparking takes time, BUT I still feel I am SO worth it! emoticon ! Yesterday I spent about 2 hours going through ALL my team mates to see IF they were still active on the team. The BIG awareness was, they are not even on Spark People, any more. Their names are UN-highlighted. emoticon I wish there was a way to help some of these people, truly achieve their goals through Spark People, as they have asked for the help. That's about 1%, right?

Thank YOU for still Sparking, still reaching your goals AND for YOUR amazing support! I can NOT do this without you! YOU are the MOST supportive people on earth! emoticon & I am so blessed to be in YOUR/our community! If you are reading this & want to 'friend' me, PLEASE do & I will add you, too! We are here to help each other! What can I do for YOU? emoticon

PS... Please read & Comment on my blog today, for the entire reading, thx!

I agree!

Had my breakfast, eating a small serving sized orange, getting ready to plan my day.

I woke up with one set of plans but ended up changing my schedule to head another direction completely. All I know for sure is that I do not want to stay in this negative slump all my life and KNOWONE but God and the strength that only He can give me can change the outcome!

Have a completely different but NEW and positive day! emoticon

Yikes car wreck this week. Stressed but okay. Road rage guy in a big truck buzzed me because I was going to slow and took off my drivers side mirror after tailgating me. Then after hitting and running, I pursued him with ONstar on. He finally pulled over to bully and harass me, but instead got recorded admitting he did it by ONstar. Very scary. Thought he might hit me. Glad police arrived.

So I finally took the time to write down my numbers for losing 60-100 pounds in a year. I weighed myself this morning and I'm ready to start. I've already this week been eating better (cleaner) and I'm ready to keep it going. I just need to get the exercise back in, I've really been slacking the past two weeks on that.

Hi everyone, as usual my journey has a lot of ups and downs with switch backs. Hopefully I am on the right road right now. Beth I have started taking the cinnamon and chromium 2000 hope it helps with sweet tooth. I have also started back on B12 and did I see a surge of energy. WOO HOO I needed it. I take Vitamin D every day per Dr. orders. My vitamin D level was 6, It is now up to 13. Still a ways to go to get to normal range. Now if I could just get back into the habit of tracking all my food. That has always been a hard one for me.

No no INDYGIRL - It was another challenge I was in that I backed out of - not the one on here! I love the one on here because it's an average sweetie!

Hmmmm If I set that challenge up so that people can quit or lose, I wrote it down wrong. The idea is that the AVERAGE loss is a weekly amount. You can lose 0 or even gain on a given week or several, but the AVERAGE over the year is going to being down in a trend... Does that make more sense?

I have been trying to use the challenge and for the last 2 weeks I have met my goal to get 10,000 steps in each day. (I had stopped doing that.) I feel more in control so I will keep doing that and I am going to add the goal of eating 5 fruits/veggies per day. Each small goal brings me closer to the big one.

Backed out of a challenge yesterday. It was a challenge where if you didn't lose - you automatically lost. emoticon I don't know why I joined in the first place as that sets you up not to enjoy NSVs! I re-read the rules to be sure I had it right before I quit. I was set up to fail due to TOM weight gain and it would have bugged me no end! I have had so many NSVs that I don't want one "failure" so to speak get in my way!

Thank you for the suggetions, I am going to try the supplements. I am also trying to reduce the process food but that seems to be harder to do. When I am stressed that is the first thing i reach for so i will continue to try to reduce them and find other ways to relieve stress.

So inspiring to read all your posts, and so glad to be rededicating my time to Spark again. I slid away from Spark while I was on the slippery slope, but as Beth encouraged below, to basically turn where you are and keep fighting the good fight. ("You don't poke holes in the other three tires when you get a flat in one of them!") Only half way back up the slope again, but moving forward because I know that help is on the way as long as I keep going!! emoticon

I used SparkPeople and ate MORE naturally, in other words, less processed foods. I started by eliminating growth hormones, which can make cows fat (and thus the people who eat and drink from the cows fat) from meat and milk and buying organic. Talk to your doctor about anything I'm about to type next. It is only my opinion and I am writing from my experience.

The LESS Processed food in your diet, the thinner and less hungry you will be. Your appetite will drop like crazy when you get on more natural sources of food. Note: I say MORE and never ALL. ALL makes life a pain in the butt sometimes and can be very expensive, but it is something to strive fore.

Vitamin D is something people who have a lot of belly fat are low in, which has been shown in many scientific studies (see google), so I took it through my weight loss for seasonal affective disorder (depression from sun deprivation) and also because I have a lot of belly fat.

Cinnamon and Chromium 2000 mg cures a sweet tooth for me personally and is something that helps with my diabetes and helped me get off insulin. You can get it at any Walgreens or Walmart and it comes in a green bottle for around ten dollars. It helps with keeping blood sugar from spiking and seems to help me with my binging. I also took this throughout my weight loss and need to get back to it. It seems I plateau whenever I become lax with this one supplement.

B12 I took this throughout my whole weight loss in either shot or tablet form. It helps with energy and pairs well with the other B vitamins for balance, especially b6 and b1.

Protein- I like Nectar Sweets by Syntrax, which you can get on Amazon because it mixes well, isn't clumpy and tastes good. There are a variety of flavors and you don't have to drink 8 ounces at a time! 2 ounces can give you 24 grams of protein for 100 calories! Flavors include my personal faves: cookies and cream, fuzzy navel, double stuffed cookie, chocolate truffle, cappuccino, strawberry mousse, vanilla torte and more.

More tips to come at a later date. That's it for today. Have a great day!

Life is happening now, not 10 pounds from now. ~Indygirl

Thank you for this post. Sometimes I feel like I am banging my head against the wall, but I can't give up and die. So here I go, trying again. Your story is an inspiration to me.

No matter how slow I am moving, I am still lapping the guy on the couch!

I did it! Thanks to SPARKPEOPLE for making me realize dreams do come true! I graduated and am now a certified professional weight loss coach! I lost 240 pounds without weight loss surgery because of SPARKPEOPLE and dared to dream again. It turned my life completely around. I began moving and went from bedridden and lifting shampoo bottles in bed to walking. I went from lying in bed all day to a meaningful life. I went from disabled to a hopeful career. Thank you SPARKPEOPLE! If you're out there thinking your dreams won't come true, just start taking small, deliberate steps in the right direction. Don't wait for magical motivation. It's a myth and so is will power. Eating foods that don't tick of your body's hunger hormones is a great start. Try adding fruits, veggies, lean protein, whole grains, healthy fats, and water to your menu and the rest will fall to the side more naturally. ADD good habits to your life. The bad ones fall away.

Life is happening now, not 10 pounds from now. ~Indygirl

Imagine yourself in a car and just never hit park or reverse... always move forward. Even when you are eating something off track, just take the wheel and turn it back in the right direction. Don't stop! If you blow a tire, don't run around the car popping the other three tires in an angry frenzy, get the one fixed and get back on the road. If you get a speeding ticket, pay the fine, don't spend the rest of the day breaking traffic laws. If your engine needs fixed, don't take a hammer to it and go extreme force or try to hold it together with spit and chewing gum, take it to the garage where they know what to do with it and how to diagnose the problem better than you can. Keep your paint job pretty, it makes you feel better while you're driving around.
