Being diabetic is so very difficult!

The last month has been a roller coaster in carbs for me3. I wish mine was fruit based but for me its the processed carbs..... I even started this morning out the same way. I have extremely high triglycerides so eating eggs each morning is not in the plan and when I eat oatmeal each morning, then it slows my intestinal tract. I don't seem to be able to win.....

I think that's what makes it so hard for me to get my act together and get this thing going. Im like a rebelling child!

Glad to hear that, Sandra. I'm diabetic also and have been going through Diabetic Management Burnout. I'm still in it somewhat, but I'm getting at least 20 to 30 minutes of exercise in five days a week now. I go in for my A1C test next month and we'll see how that is.

I handle mine by diet and exercise -- or DON"T handle it if you know what I mean! Hehehe

My main goals this time have to do with my metabolic panel. I want to lose weight of course, but everything needs to get under control also. I'm anxious to see if there's been positive improvement in the numbers.

Well, at the hospital this whole week for internal bleeding in the colon. They put a clamp in on a blood vessel that had broken and I still lost a lot of blood. Still weak and cramping. Had to move my knee surgery to the end of next month to build back my blood and strength.

Gained weight from the saline drip they had me on and the FULL calorie diet with no restrictions. I had no will power, as the food was so good. You would have thought I had never seen cookies or pancakes before. I'm transitioning down instead of going cold turkey down by lowering my calories closer to my range each day. I'm not a cold turkey kind of girl because it makes me feel trapped and unsuccessful, like I can't do this thing.

Everything I do is in moderation and slow. You need to love the journey of becoming who you are meant to be... discovering what it is about a fitter lifestyle that you enjoy. Just because your friends enjoy it or a star recommends it, doesn't mean it will work for you in your lifestyle. What works is what you have to uncover. I always say to read 100 diet books and take what you like and leave the rest. That's how you get your custom plan. Take time to discover YOUR fit life.

Life is happening now, not 10 pounds from now. ~Indygirl

Struggling to stay on my new un-official schedule.

I have to fight the sadness after getting home and finished with our trip to Sonny's this week. Sad to be leaving them all behind. We were very active with all the sight seeing trips we had during the week. Now we are home and my initial depressed mood is threatening to get me down and un encouraged again. one of those (what's the point) moods..... lack of money for gas keeps us from visiting with family here or making some side trips to see things that are around us that we have never seen before.

I hate being this way and I have battled this for more than four years!

Last night I watched "Bite Size" on Netflix which is a documentary about 4 adolescents struggling with their weight. I watched a young girl who had been to a live away camp for two semesters at different times, lost her weight, come home and gain back 9-10 pounds because she didn't want to exercise. Mentally I was chiding her for getting lazy so when it came time for me to get down to it today, I recognized the same feeling directed toward myself, got myself up, and got busy. There is some excuse for a 13-year-old but none at all for me.

My intake and exercise are balancing which is great in that I am not gaining but not so great in that I am not losing. I need to lighten up somewhere.

Sorry you have been feeling bummed, Debbie. My scales won't move and I am fighting a Binge Devil. I made some reduced calorie and fight enchiladas for lunch today to keep from taking off to Little Mexico. Now I am fighting the urge to go eat another one. I have to schedule some lab in the next couple of weeks so I can identify with you on that issue.

I wish my blood work had been done so much earlier. I kept asking but sometimes even the best doctors can dig in and become stubborn where blood test scheduling is concerned. I should have insisted but I stepped back and played the submissive role. That was the wrong move on my part and I will be working on speaking up for myself from now on.

With my depleted thyroid levels, my deficient potassium levels, and my deficient vitamin D, my body was unable to get rid of anything, much less a pound. It went to sleep and hibernated for a while.....

I am doing much better now and if I remember to Velcro my mouth shut (just kidding) in the evenings, I may accomplish a little bit of ground work and continue to loose.....

God is good my friends......!

LOL I am so glad I was able to give everyone that mental picture. I made it through the day today with only 2 Bayer Back and Body although the back, it is a'painin. I was back down to 254.4 this morning so maybe I am about to lose another pound. I am one of those people who loses in 5-8 pound increments and it has been two weeks so it is time.

Traveling for the State of Texas throughout the state of Texas landed most of the 120 pounds extra I am carrying on me. I've literally eaten at some of the best places in the state on my various road trips. Name a popular Mexican place and chances are I have been there, not to mention Outback Steakhouse, BJ's Brewhouse, Landrys, Joe's Crabshack... I should stop now!

FLRED,

It is interesting and true that when people bring a dish to a pot luck that meets special dietary needs it is one that everyone is happy to dig into. It's just easier to make tasty but starchy casserole dishes for pot lucks, so there tend to be lots of them on the table. That makes healthier dishes stand out and the ones where nothing is left to take home. So the rule of thumb is bring the health dish but don't be the last in line so you're sure of getting some yourself. emoticon emoticon

Lynn,

It is so true that when we are not getting enough sleep or something is stressing us, it's easy to see an adverse impact on our eating. At least we are aware of it so we can do our best to avoid these things, or at least have mental strategies for dealing with them.

Two other healthy eating saboteurs - at least for me - are having house guests and traveling, whether for work or pleasure. And the next 3 months are full of these situations for me. It's going to be a mine field of temptations. I am going to have to keep motivated and take time for myself to keep my mind focused and stress levels low.

But We can to it!!! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

When I go to Pot Luck dinners I make something healthy to bring so I know there will be at least one thing there good for me to eat. The interesting thing is that my stuff gets cleared out fast, no left overs.

Mary, I haven't been to one in ages but I am super picky about who cooks my food so they generally aren't a problem for me. Yesterday, I went to a baby shower and found a short hair in the cupcake frosting after a few bites. That was a pretty good appetite depressant.

Today, I need to organize myself to better cope with the work world next week. Part of my plateau was the stress-eating I did last week, which came as the result of not getting enough sleep, being totally disorganized about meals, and most importantly, letting a person over whom I have no control getting to me, I can't change her hatefulness but I can change my response.

Jesus Christ is Lord!

Pot Luck dinners are challenging when you are trying to count calories. For one thing, they tend to be short on veggie side dishes, other than starchy ones and raw veggie platters. The other thing is that it's hard to really know now many calories are in the prepared dishes.

Yesterday evening I went to a Pot Luck dinner at a church with family. I took a small bit of most dishes, which filled my plate but not to over-flowing. The best I could to to estimate the calories was guess. My guess was about 700 calories, and this is what I entered in my tracker.

How do you manage calorie counting when you attend a Pot Luck?

I'm in the midst of a plateau which is so irritating. I've had a lot of pain this week, done a lot of walking, taken a lot of naproxen for pain. Naproxen jacks up my blood pressure and makes me swell up like a dead pig in the sunshine. So I'm just sitting here having fresh cantaloupe and salad for lunch and vexing! Y'all have a great day.

Far as the rain goes, it's over TG. Shoot, we may have to run sprinklers tomorrow. Who knew?

Isn't the sun a fantastic thing? We cant see any standing water after the bright light came on 3 days ago but all the walking bridges were under water and the fishies were enjoying what they usually only get to peek at emoticon

We had a difficult time with our WIFI signal and so far tit's running great. I hate the feeling of disconnect!

Good mood today despite another rainy Saturday. I don't even remember when we have had a sunny one, it has been so long. A couple of months I think. The yellow squash and spinach seem to be loving it even if I am not. Lots of dietary slips eating fast food while the power was off, then going on a two day chip and chocolate binge. Not a big one, just a little one. I am going to weigh and assess the damage tomorrow. Right now, I am cleaning walls and getting ready to move furniture back into position.

Now that I have medicare and health insurance, I am thinking about asking my primary physician to prescribe some PT for my back and neck. I don't know if it would help but these injections are only lasting a couple of months.

Boy, was I ticked to have gained 9 pounds the day after surgery! I asked my doctor if that was normal and yes, it was. I've gained from medicine changes, certain types of medicines, other surgeries and although I expect it now, it always upsets me. BUT now I have a plan and now I have half of that weight off a week later. How?

Drink your water and flush out all of the yuck, keep yourself fuller, and compensate for the fact that hunger and thirst both register in the same part of the brain and can get you confused with their signals.

Keep low calorie foods handy for noshing, because sometimes certain medicine changes or medicines make you hungry. Save higher calorie foods for meals. Almonds or walnuts, although higher cal, do make a satisfying snack at 1 ounce 20 minutes before a meal and they help you eat less.

Try to track and TIME your eating. It isn't all about what you eat, it's when you eat also. eating every 3-4 hours in a snack like fashion with a little carbs, some protein, and some healthy fat can keep you from experiencing the ravaging hunger that some medical things can bring on. Keep in mind that dairy, breads, beans, veggies, and fruits all have carbs in them.

Bring on the fiber and protein to stay full.

Reset your Spark Weight Goal often as you lose of gain because your calorie needs change. Go to your start page, then see where it says TRACK WEIGHT... there is a little tab in light letters underneath it that says EDIT GOALS. Click that. That's where you can update your new weight goal, decide how much you want to lose per week or by what date you want to lose a particular amount of weight. Then let the tracker keep you moving in the right direction by tracking your food daily.

If these tips look like the same tips you have to take to lose every other kind of weight, yes, you caught on. The trick with all weight loss is diligence and persistence. You have to really really want it, even in the middle of the night when the fridge calls. So plan for those snacks too- ahead of time.

Life is happening now, not 10 pounds from now. ~Indygirl

I am still here, just stepped down as team leader of Beauty Over 50, which I started in 2009. It was hard, but I need to devote more time to my business. I will be spending less time on Spark, maybe once a week instead of daily.

I attempted to call Beth but there was no answer. I am assuming she is resting and that's a good thing. I am keeping notes on comments made so that when we do talk, I can pass on your comments and best wishes.....

Linda ..... I hate to see you go, but PLEASE visit when you get the chance! emoticon

COOPERKARENJ72 ..... YAY! That sounds fantastic! emoticon

SERIOUSLIM ..... I am the same way! How about I join in the next coming week and see how this works out?
