Hi Everyone ~ everyone is home today. My son, Staf does not have college class today, our new addition, Vanessa, doesn't work today and my husband, Doug is staying home from work because he's sick. Therefore, I am making the extra effort to stay on track today!

Just stopping by to say I am still here and doing well

Have had a bad flu bug but believe it has worked its way out - thankfully

Am making progress - slow but steady. Was to see the doc and he is please with losing 5 pounds each month - that would make 60 pounds a year - so even though it doesn't seem a lot at the time it does at up. And setting a goal of 5 pounds to loss for a given month is very doable for us - I have done it now 4 months in a row and if I can do it we all can do it

Am working on no sugar in my food plan and walking each day. Was doing well in getting in 1 mile a day than got sick. March I got in 10 miles walked and April got in 11 miles so guess I did make some progress. But I am aiming to get in 15 - 20 miles this month - and the 5 pound loss of course

Hope you are all doing good -

Marilyn

Happy Monday Team!

Dropped off the DH at work, went grocery shopping and walking at the same time, came home and carried in the groceries, made my home made vinegar and oil dressing, boiled some eggs for the fridge, and now I'm getting ready to do some God time and after that plan my day of meals and exercise........

It's a start to my new week!

Hi Everyone,

Our new tenant ~ Vanessa ~ oh my! I was surprised when she moved in - the young lady has practically nothing, sadly. About 8 boxes (really it's about 4 banana boxes worth of items), no bed, no dresser, she does have a little couch like thing (futon). When I saw the futon, my son was carrying it by himself with one arm (my son is a big guy 6'4" and husky) ~ I thought to myself, she is sleeping on that?!!!

She is taller than me (5'3") and I think I would have to fold my legs to lay on it. I offered her a queen size bed, no one is using it, it's one of our guest beds, she is a quiet person - politely said - no thank you - I plan on buying a bed when I can. She works 40 hours a week at Walmart. Of course, I asked her the next morning, "did you sleep ok", she said, "not really but I'm used to it". She had to work at 10pm last night till 7am this morning. I'm glad today is Saturday ~ my husband & I will talk to her hoping to move that bed to her room and a dresser too if she will let us.

Next issue ~ she was going to look at a charter college about an hour away - my son asked to go with her (he currently in college for Phlebotomy (person who draws blood). He shared with us his concerns when she left for work: she signed a bunch of papers, they took her picture, and want her to start on May 15, it felt like they were in such a hurry to sign her up that they didn't even talk about how she would work and go to school. We assured him that we would talk to her. She didn't get copies of anything she signed. Vanessa is 18, sadly she has no guidance or help from her parents. We are glad to lovely talk about college, credit cards, buying a car, etc that young people need to consider carefully due to getting into long tern debit.

I did get a few set of up and down the stairs when she moved in. Today I'll find out all the foods she likes. Planning grilled chicken and salad tonight for dinner.

Have a great day! T

T-165-TO-LOSE ..... Teresa, How has day 1 been so far with your new tenant? Maybe she can be your new workout buddy and cheerleader?! As for veggies.... I NEVER get enough in my diet but V8 or the generic of V8 helps a lot. I get the low sodium version emoticon

COVEGIRL1 ..... I'm glad your feeling better today! emoticon
I do have a question, do you eat a non inflammatory style diet? It does help a lot..... If not, you should look it up

SMIDGON ..... BIG HUGS your way my friend! emoticon

I managed to battle my way down for a total of 3 pounds this month. I was sure sweating it there for the last 2 weeks. I didn't hit my goal of 308 and fell 3 pounds short of the goal but after doing a little praying (ok a LOT) of praying to God he walked me out of the month 3 pounds lighter.

NOW to maintain that weight and shed more in the month of May.
End of May's goal weight is 304.....

emoticon ! emoticon and If I can, emoticon and emoticon

Update on Son

Wednesday we all went to see the oncologist.
They found three suspicious spots on his liver. He will have to have a biopsy.
If I deed it is spread more, he'll will have to have round of Chemo.
The oncologist said there are some cases the Chemo is indefinitely.

Daughter had 7thyr. checkup, all okay! PTL!

Hi Everyone!

Today Vanessa moves in. She is a young adult who just needs a hand (no help from family). Staying here will provide her with a loving home, encouragement and guidance. She does have a job at Walmart and will transfer to our local one here. Now she will be able to save her money so she can get off to a good start in her life. I can get extra exercise going up and down the staircase helping her move in!

I'm not doing very well at getting vegetables in daily ~ any advice? Here comes the best time of the year to get fresh veggies.

SMIDGON ..... Thank you for the words of encouragement!

LITTLELOUIE71 ..... I would love to have a treadmill and actually did until we moved into the RV full time. Thank you so much for you sweet words to Beth and I.... That is so encouraging all by itself!

PEAJAY26 ..... Consider yourself hugged today! emoticon
I am 100% real and human.... I just wish I was more of an example BUT..... We all have INDYGIRL to lead us the way and she IS amazing!

COVEGIRL1 ..... I love, love, love stretching exercises. They are so relaxing in a way and I always feel so much better afterward.

T-165-TO-LOSE ..... Teresa, I do my best moving early in the mornings and by evening I am just so tired mentally & physically. I am trying more now and that's a start!

LITTLELOUIE71 ..... I do that same thing all the time. I will seesaw up and down with a pound here and a pound there. This last week it was 5 pounds added back on the scale. I have rallied, started back journaling my foods, and found one of the problems because I was writing everything down.

Hi Everyone, emoticon emoticon

Helen ~ You deserve an award for walking, strength/stretch through the aches! I hope your cold is gone soon! Hoping you can sleep better tonight.

Debbie ~ You and Beth are great leaders!

Iím with you, so much time has passed. For me, about 35 years of carrying around a bunch of extra weight every second of every day. Iím also with you now, let us march forward and not let more time pass without doing something daily to change. We canít go back but we learn from it and let that motivate us! Thank you for sharing!

It sounds like several of us have that fear of falling while alone. I arrange my walking and hot tub exercise around my sonís college schedule so I know he can hear me if needed. We live in a rural location however I do have cell phone service so I could always call for help.

Louie ~ Way to go doing lawn stuff, super exercise.

Janet ~ Iím sorry to hear there is no one locally to help you & your husband. Thanks, I will give myself some space.

PeaJay26 ~ Awesome suggestion! We will give that a go Ė run a fan Ė that could not only work during the hot tub but perhaps all the noise from walking around and everyday things.

Today Iíll be making egg salad, beef stew, corn bread and if Iím feeling inspired, Iíll get the chicken salad done too. My mother-in-law is coming over tonight (every Tue night) for dinner and play cards. Nearly every day I prepare foods for others that I donít eat because I either donít like it or if I do like it but donít want to eat it then I purposely use an ingredient I donít like (like cheese). Tonight the wonderful hot corn bread will be tempting but after I lightly sprinkle it with parmesan cheese Ė it will no longer be something I want and everyone else will love it.

Yesterday, my husband brought home a BIG bag of peanut M&M's! He got them to go to his office (Assistant Principal) but he opened them to munch on!!! After I shared with him how easily they can flush down the toliet.... he taped the bag shut and put it out in the car to go to work with him this morning. Ha ha ha ha ha ha

Thursday Vanessa moves in. I will find out all the foods she likes then, just like PeaJay26 said Ė weíll figure out how to make it work. Also get her work schedule written on my calendar.

Have a great day! T

Thanks PeaJay. Today, I did my Strengthening and Stretching, which is very important to me. It has helped me with my back and hips, especially. If anyone is interested, it's Classical Stretch and found on PBS. I have DVR's a number of them and rotate through them each day. Only 22 minutes.
I did not sleep well last night, so I'm not feeling like I can do anymore.

Covegirl1---great job getting as much walk in as your body could handle while fighting the germs. It may not be as much as your mind thinks it should have been but we have to listen to our bodies.
Debbie---what attracted me to this team was that it was led by people who were real. Real lives, real problems, real ups and downs. I can't handle teams with members or leaders who are perfect 100%!of the time as I cannot relate to them. They make me feel less than worthy. Paraphrasing what smidgon said, we do the best can.
Teresa--what a wonderful family to open your home to this young woman. Yes there will be challenges (I have a son who works rotating shifts) but you will find solutions. Perhaps running a fan or white noise machine will help drown out the sound of the hot tub.
Louie---hats off on tackling the lawn. It is a great exercise and a chance to enjoy the beautiful weather. Don't let the to-do list overwhelm you just focus on whatever is most important and block the rest out. Enjoy your evening with your friends. Good friends are medicine for the soul.
Monday is almost behind us. Let's set our goals to do the best we can with Tuesday and enjoy as much as we are able as every day is a gift (even with a crazy to do list).

This still makes me sad!

Yes, I have dropped 27 pounds as of this week and I am very happy about that, it would have been more if I could count what I have lost and then regained, but I feel ashamed that this is all I have accomplished since I started tracking in Jan. 2011

I am a leader on this team and I do not lead by example......
For that I apologize sincerely!

TODAY ..... I will endeavor to pick myself up and march FORWARD!

I so admire you! You remind me so much of a younger me! That was many years ago.

I won't go into detail, let's just say, I put myself on the 'back burner'.

As I tell my younger daughter, give yourself some space. I evolved around everyone else what happen? I am almost 76yrs. Old, children grown out on their own. No one locally to help us. We (hubby and I) always did for others. Now I guess people think we will always be that way.

ALL OF YOU, WHILE IT'S STILL A DESTINY TO DO FOR OTHERS. WHEN YOU AGE, WHO WILL TAKE CARE OF YOU? This is a different age and x.

"All things work together for the good of those who love the Lord, and are called according to His purpose."

Thanks ~ that is so true! People count on me to run huge events: feeding the community, weddings, all kinds of gatherings. They know I will make it happen, I'm an organizer, I plan every detail, delegate lots of teams, oversee everything and see the event through to the end.

I purposely stopped all events to make myself the event, I'm striving to put the SAME LEVEL of dedication into myself as I do all these events I've successfully directed. I'm learning and discovering new things every day. One of the things I've discovered about myself is that I must purposely remind myself why I'm doing this - it keeps me highly motivated and excited! It is a long list of 3 reasons why I'm doing this (on my SparkPage).

I'm so inspired by you and all the people here for all the victories big and small emoticon

Hi Everyone, My husband won yesterday's giant shuffle board game emoticon

I'm thinking that this upcoming week, I should spend some time learning - doing more of "The Diabetes Weight Loss Challenge" and "SparkPeoples Walk This Way Challenge".

Last night our adult son discussed a friend of his needing a place to live. She has been our son's friend for a long time, she lives about 2 hours away so when she comes to visit - she often stays with us for several days at a time. Anyway she works for Walmart and can transfer to our Walmart. We all agree, to offer for her to live here. She was thrilled to say yes and thank you so much! Her name is Vanessa.

I told myself - I will make sure I keep going with what I'm doing and not let Vanessa moving in mess up my eating and exercise needs. If she works the same shift - she currently works graveyard which means we are on opposite sleep schedules - I may need to change my workout times (noise of hot tub) as well as when I do the laundry etc. Telling myself - no excuses, I don't like to exercise so I have to be careful that I don't use anything for an excuse to be lazy.

Vanessa is familiar with my requests of my husband and son: no chips unless they have cheese on them (I don't like cheese except mozzarella), any "treats" my son buys are kept in his own room etc. We'll discuss all her food preferences ~ dinner together is expected so I'll need to know what all she likes.

This is just another example of NOT letting circumstances interfere with what I know I NEED to do. It definitely takes a lot of time and effort.I know it is worth it but I still have to "MAKE" myself do it!!!

Covegirl1 ---sorry you are feeling under the weather. While I am sure your volunteer group missed your company they probably appreciate that you did not come spread potential germs. Hope you are feeling better
Debbie---gotta do what we gotta do to survive. Just glad you are safe and have an alternative when inclement weather hits.
Teresa---you are a woman on a mission. Hope nothing tries to slow you down.

We can do this ladies!

Sometimes you gotta make do Debbie, glad to hear you're going to push through!

I'm back from the grocery store, unloaded by myself (walking back & forth and wt lifting), put everything away (I'm an organizer). Now onto my routine ~ eat, walk, hot tub thigh workout, relax. My husband is home all day (his job is assistant principal) so we'll play some games of giant shuffle board - fun!

T-165-TO-LOSE ..... You encourage me to do better.... TY!

COVEGIRL1 ..... I hope you feel better soon!

I have been feeling under the weather and out of sorts for the last 2 - 3 weeks. It's not something that I can pin point but I have a good idea that its attached to some really nasty choices in food. We had to get some emergency supplies for our RV due to bad weather and the possibility of not having electricity. At those times we have to cook with gas and have no way to refrigerate our foods..... So we chose the forbidden CAN items that are not good for anyone. YEP..... up 3 pounds.

Gotta push through and go ruff basics this week......

With your volunteering gardening, since your not feeling well, someone should do you a favor and help you out.

That happens so often these days. Across the "board".

Today I have to take the time to put my food, exercise, water into tracking. I'm trying to change my attitude with exercise from I don't want to. So today I'm taking my long list of why I'm doing this with me and as I walk and I'm going to read it out loud.

I will carry a note in my pocket today and read it several times throughout the day. What's on the note? No one can do it for us and no one can make us do it ~ we have to want it for ourselves!

Have a great day,

Hi everyone, I completed my 7 daily goals (listed on my SparkPage) today.

Little victories: I wanted to eat more because the food tasted so good and I stuck to my planned portion, I was walking and thought about quitting several times - each time, I started saying out loud - things I am looking forward to (it worked - I kept walking), it was hot today - 84 degree's - I completed all the exercise I wanted even thou I wanted to quit because it's hot.

You haven't heard from me for a while because my husband's first book is about to be published. We spent a lot of time making 50+ corrections, now the publisher will make the corrections then send us the final copy for approval then he will sign documents, then the book will go into print. We are very excited!

Hi everyone

I am new (you already know that lol) and I live in New Zealand.

I lost 42 kgs (92.4 lbs) and was doing so well and then things in my life got in the way (and I let it and shouldn't have) and gained back 30kg (66 lbs) of them.

I am not proud of that but I need to get real again and lose this weight and be happier and healthier again.

I just don't know where to start?

I lost the weight before with a trainer and Weight Watchers and I blogged.

So tired. We had to travel to Ohio for a family funeral. We left here on Sunday, attended the funeral today, and traveled 6 hours to get home today!
