Psalmist LD - I concur with Janis..... exercise even in small increments can do a lot of good! Keep up the good work!

Janis - Thanks for the info.... again..... I really appreciate all the info you give me! It's incredibly helpful and trial and error saving for me!

I am getting a little antsy to exercise!! Common sense tells me to give my muscles time to heal.. when I don't feel wobbly when I stand would be a good judge of the "when" to start. Patience is something I've had to work on most of my adult life and I guess this is another lesson in it! I can exercise with the foot I think.... it aches all the time but I'll have it taken care of one way or the other very soon. I've only got a week and a half to wait for that appointment!! If I can be patient until then I think both things will be handled. My muscles will have had the time to heal and the foot will be dealt with!! The one good thing in all this is I never thought I'd be so anxious to get to a work out in all my life! I consider that a real blessing in all this! When the time comes I'll be "shooting out of the gate" so to speak!!

I hope ya'll have a very Happy Hump Day!!!

PsalmistLD — emoticon Exercise is supposed to be just as good in smaller chunks throughout the day. (Supposed to be at least 10 minutes they say, but I assume taking flights of stairs instead of the elevator to drop off my taxes today was a good thing even though it was less than 10 min.)

Jeanne — my right foot has bone-on-bone arthritis in the tarsal bones (in front of the ankle.) I assume it's from a couple of traumas. An orthopedist gave me an Rx for custom orthotics (molded to my feet) and since they are for arthritis, they are made of different densities of soft foam. Insurance doesn't cover them, mine cost about $100. They helped my foot pain a whole lot. You then have to get shoes that you can take out the shoe liner and replace it with the orthotic, otherwise the shoes might be too tight.

Thank you everyone for the encouragement! It really helps to have support!

Sparkling, praying that your MIL continues to improve, and that you take care of yourselves as well.

Debbie, I don't know if I would have been able to handle that driving, KUDOS!

Bluejay, take care of yourself, and yes, the arch supports may give you some relief until your appt.

Yesterday's weigh in was disappointing (1 pound up, nuts!), but I persevere! Went running again yesterday (4 very short laps, but ran all the same!). I didn't rest like I had promised myself over the weekend, so all my reserves were depleted and today's morning workout was disastrous. BUT instead of beating myself up and sulking all day (the old me) I just spread it out over the remainder of the day and worked out at my desk whenever I had a lull in the business. Felt good too, because it reassured me that no matter the circumstances, there is always a way to get through it; it may not be at the speed we wish, but if just getting to the end is the ultimate goal, then speed doesn't matter, as long as we get there! AND I'M DETERMINED TO GET THERE!!!

Everyone enjoy this beautiful break in the weather (if you have it where you are), and if you don't, do something nice for yourself!

Sparkling - I'm sorry to hear about you MIL! I am glad she is doing better!

Everyone - thank you for the well wishes on my foot. It's been hurting for like 3 years and just gradually getting worse. I knew there was some kind of a problem 7 years ago as the podiatrist/surgeon told me I'd be back to see him on that foot. When I was a youngster, I was playing soccer and accidentally kicked another girl's foot, that foot was so messed up that I was on crutches for some time but my father did not believe in doctors so I never got it "seen to" in that way. No x-rays or anything. I do believe that it's that very old injury catching up with me now...

Janis - I am actually looking into some shoe inserts as my arch needs more support..... I had to buy some wider shoes to accommodate that foot and the arches just aren't supportive enough. I did not know that they would take the Dr. Scholls expensive ones back..... I am going to try those ..... Thank You so much!

Had dinner with my DD and grands last night while DH was working and I had a blast! It gave DD a bit of a break too to have another adult around for a bit! Her DH was working too so we had "girl time" in between watching the kidlets!

Have a great Tuesday everyone!!

Sparkling---prayers that your mil continues to regain the strength & abilities imapcted by the stroke. Our bodies are amazing things capable of accomplishing the seemingly impossible.
Blue jay---prayers that your foot issues are soon cured and that you may be pain free.
Debbie---impressive that you drove that camper that distance under the windy conditions. You are stronger than you give yourself credit for ----that is not an easy task.

The only way we can fail is to give up. Never surrender!

Debbie — Yes, glad you made it safely! I know sometimes in high winds* even semi trucks get blown off the roads. [*e.g. the Santa Ana winds when we lived in CA.]

Sparkling — Sorry to hear about your MIL's stroke. Glad she is improving; the therapists are so knowledgeable nowadays.

Jeanne — Thanks for the prayers, they are most appreciated.
Baha, that is cute, like Baja California! My son (now 19) called my mother "Wommy" and it has stuck, she wanted to be Grandmama or Grandmere (he was her first grandchild) but we all call her Wommy!
Dr. Scholl's gel inserts or even their $50 "custom orthotics" from the kiosks you stand on can help alleviate foot pain. If they don't help you can return them to the store even if opened.

I don't get emails from SP, but on the home page go to the Bonus Points and right there is "What's New in My Teams". From there I check out this team and my RA Team daily.

Be well team. God bless you all! emoticon

THX for your support!

emoticon 2-20-17 a bit from my world: Even though many people are off work today, because we own our own business, we are working & catching up, the phone is quiet. MIL is getting a tiny bit better, we went over yesterday, the stroke hit her pretty hard, but she is getting better. We will be in VERY close contact with her this week. Her daughter (who she lives with) will be going out of town emoticon So we are 'on call' & several visits. She likes to be alone, but need to help her have fun, at least! emoticon

Deb - Sounds like quite the fight to stay on the road! i remember going through Kansas a few times when we lived in OK and the wind through there was pretty brutal since there aren't any mountains to slow it down! I would have to fight just the car - I can't imagine fighting a whole camper!! I'm glad you made it safe!

Covegirl - Hope you have a great time!

I'm going in on the 6th to have my foot looked at by the same podiatrist/surgeon who took the ganglion cyst out of it 7 years ago. I can't bend my big toe at the big joint anymore and now that the muscle thing is clearing up, I really notice how painful the foot is! I am looking forward to getting it taken care of!

Have a great rest of the day!

We spent from Friday morning until Sunday night traveling.

We sold the RV to our daughter and her DH so that he and our son will have a place while they work the oil fields and she finished her nursing school here near us and then transported it to Midland Texas for them.

That was a grueling 10 hours with a strong wind hitting me most of the time on the drivers side. I battled that baby up hills and down into valleys and by the time we got there my arms and legs were cramping but its there and in place now so they can rest and so can we!

Thanks to all of you for the encouragement and for the caring thoughts my way! I truly am blessed to have a team like this.....
God is good to me my friends!

Deb - So good to hear!! So happy some stress has been lifted off of you!

Sparkling - Congrats on your continuous presence on SP! I know that you touch and inspire people where ever you go!

Janis - So glad you are feeling better! Been praying for you!

Shopping yesterday -- could have been better. I had a dern headache for most of the morning. By the time that DD and the grands came over, it was pretty much under control though so thank God for that! They stayed far longer than usual....... 4 hours. We watched Finding Dory - quite an amusing film! We all got some good belly laughs out of it. We had a pizza party....... I stayed within my limits! The grands ran around like little crazy people in the yard. They don't have one as they live in an apartment so when they come over here, we encourage them to get all their energy out! We had a great time visiting with DD and getting lots of hugs from the grands. My little granddaughter calls me Baha....... it is so cute! She doesn't want to say grandma so we are Pa and Baha!! Pa is what DH likes to be called so that works because I get tickled to death when she says Pa!!! Baha!!!

I hope everyone has an amazing Sunday!

emoticon emoticon emoticon Good news all around!

PsalmistLD — Very inspiring! I can't run anymore but I had to walk as fast as I could to keep up with my friend today.

Debbie — Stress reduction is very important. Good for you.

SparklingMe — emoticon What a SparkStreak! I am "only" at about 760 days. LOL. Love your quote.

Be well all.
(I picked up that saying from my sister's late MIL, a Holocaust survivor who lived joyfully and lovingly to age 93.)

P.S. — I am now healthy and getting my strength and energy back after 4 weeks of illness, pain and bad dehydration. Boring and not fun. Glad to back. Praise God for healing!!! Alleluia!

We took our oldest daughter and the RV they bought from us 10 hours away so that her DH would have a home while working in the oil fields while she finishes her nursing school this year.

I have done a lot more walking then usual but I have also relaxed and felt so much stress lift off my shoulders. emoticon

Feeling really accomplished this week:

1. Took off running emoticon for the first time in over 30 years, and liked it so much, it's now a part of my cardio.
2. Weigh in saw three more pounds off! emoticon emoticon
3. Did lateral lunges, modified planks, squats and wall pushups all as a part of this morning's strength training. I am extremely proud of that accomplishment because there was a time not too long ago when I couldn't do just one of those, much less do all of them in the same workout. The significance is I have arthritis from shoulders to hips, a cyst on my coccyx, and a weight currently about 350 lbs!
Going into this weekend pumped! emoticon

Janis - thank you for your prayers! I am prohibited from taking other addictive substances by my pain management contract with my pain management clinic and the one I'm taking does not have that side effect. Thank you for worrying about it for me though!

I know it's working well...... I accidentally skipped a dose today and rather than take one "out of sequence" I went the 3 - 4 hours after I noticed it with the cramps again! It wasn't the best decision but it would have put all the rest of my medications out of whack had I taken it off schedule! I have cooked 3 days this week and if we don't do take home from our favorite steak house tomorrow, I will cook again! I always order healthy and save part of my meal.... or DH and I split a meal! It's nice because I know all the calories for all my favorite dishes there! It's really inexpensive for a steak house. DH and I can eat take out for 20 bucks ----- together not apiece!! It usually costs us 30 when we dine in due to tipping and drinks.

Yes, do keep the appointment with the specialist... you need to know the root cause and address the whole disease process.
Also, at least some muscle relaxants can be potentially addictive, so be aware of that, maybe discuss with your doctor if s/he didn't mention it.
Hope you keep feeling better, God bless you!!!

I'm sorry all.... I got knocked off SP mail again! I think I have it all fixed now.

Janis..... My family doctor, whom I saw on Monday, gave me new muscle relaxers and they are working!!!

I have managed to make dinner 2 out of 3 nights.... Valentine's Day we ordered in.... and I feel so great about that! I am wobbly when I stand too much and it's going to take time for the muscles to recover. It's as if I worked out hard for weeks without taking a break. They are exhausted and strained. But I am hopeful that in 2 or 3 weeks I can be working out again with my chair workouts!! I'm very excited!! I have to keep my appointment with the "muscle doctor" but the symptoms are under control. My family doc is just worried about the why of it all. So I promised I would see him! Other than that I have to be careful to not let my impatience impede my recovery by working out before my muscles are ready! DH is also really happy that I am doing better! It's nice for him to come home to a dinner that is ready for him!

Have a great Thursday all --- I plan to!

Good stuff. If it isn't chronic pain you're good. That shows how important maintaining our bodies is!
Ice or heat can be your friend for little aches and pains. Whichever feels good. They can be powerful.

Janis, thanks for your concern. Because my knee pain and hip pain come and go, I have not done anything medical. I've been doing my exercises faithfully for a few days, so I'm hoping that it won't take too long for them to feel better. I didn't do any of those exercises while we were in Hawaii( just a lot of walking). when we returned, I did not get back to them, until a few days ago. Two years ago, almost to the date, I had major leg pain and realized that I was not doing the exercises every day, so I started to do them faithfully. It took about two weeks to be back to normal.

CoveGirl — You are a Master Gardener... very impressive!!
Have you had your knees diagnosed by an orthopedist? Different things conditions can be helped a lot by Physical Therapy. It can also slow arthritic damage. My knee problems started with "Patella-Femoral Pain" which can be helped a lot by strengthening certain quadricep muscles to make the kneecap track correctly.

Jeanne — Are you using ice? Preferably the gel ice packs, such as ColPac (available at drugstores, Sears, Amazon.com, IceWraps.com, etc.) When I was waiting for my shoulder repair surgeries I could only sleep an hour at a time until I had to get up ice my shoulder(s). It helped more than pain drugs. No more than 20 min. at a time and put some cloth between it and your skin so you don't get frostbite.

Janis - thank you I will try that with the insurance if it ends up being that simple. Yes I got on the cancellation list for the specialist. I see my family doc on Monday. I got my blood pulled today to check for those levels - it won't be back by Monday of course but she will email or call me when it does come back and we'll go from there!!

I have been taking magnesium for 3 days now and I haven't noticed any big differences yet but then I didn't expect to. However I did sleep for 3 solid hours last night and that is unheard of for me these days! I'm usually up every hour and a half or more due to pain.

Have a great weekend all!

Jeanne — If your insurance says they won't pay for injected or IV minerals, maybe your doc can appeal that, such as say you have tried the oral ones... that's called step therapy where they make you try a cheaper medicine before they agree to pay for the more expensive one.... or appeal to a higher level, "Medical Management", or something. You can self-pay after trying that. Good luck.
Also, did you ask if the specialist has a cancellation list you can get on to try to get in sooner?

We've had a blizzard all day. Even thunder snow. emoticon emoticon
DH worked at home.

I am still trying to recover from my over-3-week illness. Went to doctor yesterday and found out I am very dehydrated. Partly because I am sleeping so many hours a day.

Jeanne ..... I just shook my head when you described your issues with a bath tub. Only because we are so much alike. I can't get into OR out of the tub myself. I plan to one day buy one of he upright tubs that you just walk and sit down in.

OH HOW I WOULD LOVE A SOAK IN THE TUB! emoticon No tub emo's

PeaJay - I'm sorry I can't help..... I picked up a scale at walmart for like 40 bucks about 6 months ago and it's already messing up. I am fixing to get a wireless scale that will pair with my fitbit I think. Most of the digital scales keep the numbers on them for a bit after you get off so you can have a minute to see the weight. You might try one of those.

Janis - I love your wonderful advice..... I will ask my primary doc on Monday about the prednisone. I did feel better when I was on it for the pneumonia last time. I purchased the magnesium tonight and began taking it. I would do the epsom's salts except (this is embarrassing) I can't get down into the tub and then IF I make it down, I can't get out! I just want something to stop this horrible pain and I went ahead and read about neuromuscular diseases and I don't have the symptoms to go along with the cramps that equal a muscle disease. I also looked up how long it takes to get your minerals built back up to get rid of the symptoms and unless they inject or IV them into you, it takes approximately 6 months. I talked to DH and he says if the dr. will authorize it and insurance won't cover it, we can pay out of pocket to get the IV infusion or injection of whatever I'm low on. It takes effect that way almost as soon as they are done with you! I am SO praying that this is the answer! It would mean no more specialists telling me it's all due to obesity and no more appointments and most importantly no more pain. AND I could exercise again!!! Never ever thought I'd miss it so badly!

We are going to get a big snow storm here tomorrow, 14" plus, white-out conditions. My doc cancelled my physical. DH will work at home on his laptop & blueprints of ships.

Jeanne — that CRP is VERY high, I can just imagine your pain. When mine was 38, my shoulders were so inflamed that my bones cut through my rotator cuffs (my bones were a bit less curved than normal too.) Could they give you some prednisone (5 or 10 mg a day) to take the inflammation down and make you more comfortable until you get closer to your specialist appt?

Reading about your cramps and magnesium made me think of Epsom Salts and wonder if they would help to soak in them... they have magnesium that I believe is absorbed. They help pain from sprains and RA, so quite effective and very cheap, available at drugstores. Put 1 cup in a hot bath, or less in a foot bath.

Be well, all.

Need some advice as I seem to need to purchase a new scale. I have battled with mine for over a year, either not getting a consistent number within a few minutes of each other OR it staying on the same number as the last time I weighed. I was blaming it on the flooring in my upstairs bath and I was putting it in the tub so it was on a flat hard surface. I have moved it to my main floor powder room with nice flat solid flooring. Same problem. I need a scale that will give me an accurate reading the first time I get on each and every time. I don't have 5 minutes to weigh myself, get off, pick up several lbs of cleaning supplies & get back on and weigh, then get off to put all the supplies away so that I can get back on to weigh and get my real (I hope) number.
Getting someone else to get on won't work as generally me & DH who does not need to know my weight. He would become the food police which I would not handle well. His idea of nutrition is not healthy or realistic.
Anyone with a great scale they can recommend? Any scales to avoid? I need digital with large numbers. Otherwise I am open to suggestions.
Thanks everyone in advance.

The only way we can fail is to give up. Never surrender!

Deb - thanks as always! These darn cramps are all over my body and I hope if I am truly VERY low they will hook me up to some IV supplements as those start to work shortly after they are administered!

Sparkling - I will ask my doc about CALM. She wants me to ONLY take a magnesium supplement tablet of 400 mg right now!

If I won big money I would use it to support the Wounded Warrior Foundation in some way!

We take a powder called CALM- it is magnesium I have about 1/2 teaspoon a day. Helps with ANY aches & pains. Even for my DH who could use allot of back surgery!

(check out the team page, wonderful group!)

"What would you do if you win BIG money?" emoticon When I win BIG MONEY emoticon I would open a marionette museum that includes performing space for Zumba, my marionette shows of course & put ALL of my marionettes & props on gorgeous display. A performing entertainment space. Workshop etc. 10,000 feet would be nice PLUS all the people needed to run it. & if & when I am ready to retire I would donate to the city's art community. I'm working on doing this anyway.... but a BIG win would help! ALSO: pay off our home & rent it out, then move to the pacific coast. Help family members if they want it & donate BIGGER to the charities I already donate to. I would also try to find a way to help SP, they have changed my life!

The cramps and pain can be what I call Bone Deep. It litterally makes it impossible for me to bend my knees or shuffle along. If this turns out to be your issue, then thats awesome because it can be fixed with suppliments. Hugs sweet friend! emoticon

Covegirl - Our weather has been like that all winter. I personally love it! 3 - 4 days of icky and then a few days of nice! I can deal with winters like that!

Finally broke down and googled "what causes severe muscle cramps!" Got something from both the Mayo Clinic site and WebMD site.Dehydration can cause it but that's not a concern. Low levels of Magnesium, Calcium, and Potassium can all do it. Not one of these doctors has mentioned that or tested me for it since the cramps started. I emailed my PCP and she ordered a blood test for me but okay'd the magnesium to start now. I will pick some up tonight. I have an appointment with her on Monday to see if she can give me a better muscle relaxer. I swear if it's a deficiency in any of those minerals - I am going to scream..... loudly! I still won't know what's causing the C-Reactive Proteins to go up so high but I don't really care as long as the pain stops! I'm not sure how long the minerals take to build up to the point that they stop the cramps but I do know if the test shows they are low enough they can hook me up to an IV and pump them into me to get them working sooner. I don't tend to google things because it usually leads me down a road that is false but since my PCP about broke her fingers getting back to my email, I do believe that I did the right thing this time around.

Hope everyone has a happy Hump Day!!

JANISMKW ..... Janis, Bubba is 3 & 1/2 months now and he usually gives me very little trouble when I take him out. He is being kennel trained, especially right now while he is wearing the ugly (cone of shame).

That plastic surgery cone can come off today or tomorrow. We have been having an issue of him snapping at us when we attempt to pet his ears or head. Very unlike him usually. THAT little bad habit MUST stop right away.

BLUEJAY1969 ..... Bubba is a German shepherd / Rottweiler mix
Look at it this way Jeanne, at least you can add that to your check off list on the road to the healthy you......

COVEGIRL1 ..... I hate those appointments. I schedule them during my birth month along with the dreaded mammograms. Easier for me to remember that way.

Deb - Bubba is a cutie pie!! What kind of pup is he? I am also glad your knee is feeling better!

I got the results of my latest C-Reactive Protein.... 52.2. The rheumatologist is trying to blame it on my weight. I don't think so as I weighed the same when it was 26. I made the appointment with the muscle specialist. I have to wait 7 weeks. I am trying to work on finding a positive in this somewhere but it's a really hard one to find the positive for. I did get on the cancellation list.

I am getting all my water in each day and eating healthy meals most of the time now which is a far cry from what I was doing. All small steps in the right direction!

Hope everyone has a terrific Tuesday!

JANISMKW ..... COVEGIRL1..... BLUEJAY1969 .....

Thank you for your encouragement. I am doing very well now, a cringe here and there but good for the most part.
Jeanne, I did take it easy for about three days. All is well now though.... I hope you are doing better. Oh and I have a new friend that keeps me busy. His name is Bubba.... named by my DH. As you can see, he isn't a tiny friend but he is so very sweet and very smart.

I too have zero desire to see the Super Bowl. Thank the Lord that DH is not into watching sports at all! The only thing he likes is the occasional LIVE game of baseball. You know where you go sit in the stands and cheer!!!

I don't have any desire to watch the Super Bowl. Although, I hope the Falcons win, because as as a resident of Indy, I abhor the Patriots!

Debbie — Thanks for letting us know that Beth had back surgery! I will pray extra for her!!!
I have quit reading my friend feed and most blogs, it just took too much time. I mainly check in here and my RAD (Rheumatoid Auto-Immune Diseases) Team pages.

Sorry about your fall, Ouch!! Remember ice and then heat are huge in pain management and then healing.

Cove — Glad your knee is better.

Sparkling — great job "capturing" your furry friend... they swim fast.

Be well all. Enjoy Super Bowl Sunday. emoticon

Jeanne ..... YAY! on the RA results and please keep us posted on the results!

COVEGIRL ..... Hope the knees stay strong!

JANIS ..... I really hope you feel better soon!

I'm not sure why I haven't been on the pages in so long..... shame on me! I fell on Wednesday and landed on my bad knee. I haven't been able to bend it all the way in years but I sure bent it that day. It's Friday now and I am moving again..... SLOWLY and painfully ..... but moving!

I hear that Beth / INDYGIRL, is doing better following her back surgery, Please keep her in your prayers and thoughts this week as she recovers and deals with the pain......

Janis - Thank you for the support! I am asking my PCP who she has in her books as good that is in our area for the reason of multiple visits. 35 miles here in the city takes over an hour and I really don't want to do that drive each time I need to see someone!

I hope you get better real soon. It's so tough to be sick on top of having pain!

I am wishing everyone a great TGIF!!!

Happy emoticon Ground Hog Day!
Punxatawny Phil and our local Ms. G. say 6 more weeks of winter. emoticon

Jeanne, Congrats on no RA and on getting closer to a correct diagnosis. Hope you can find a good specialist who's not too far away, but I think it's most important to find a very good specialist, especially to diagnose and start treatment. Management might be easier down the road, God willing.

CoveGirl, hope your knee recovers soon.

I've been sick for over 2 weeks with this throat virus. Saw Infectious Disease specialist today, the 5th doctor I've been to. This is worse than normal because of my RA medicine which supresses the immune system. Plus I've had "tummy troubles" since Sunday, which he thinks is a separate thing. The only upside to it is I've lost 5 lbs.

Covegirl - hope that knee gets better soon!

Lou - Nice to hear from you!

Good news/Bad news from rhematology: Good news.... no RA and connective tissue disorder highly unlikely. Bad news..... suspects neuromuscular proplems. Must see a neuromuscular specialist. He did pull blood for another C-Reactive Protein and some muscle enzyme tests. Will have those results in about 10 days. Have to get scheduled to see next specialist. Waiting to see if my primary care doc can recommend someone closer than 35 miles away. If not, DH says we'll visit the one that the rhematologist recommended down by him.

Hope everyone is having a great Thursday!
