I did it! Thanks to SPARKPEOPLE for making me realize dreams do come true! I graduated and am now a certified professional weight loss coach! I lost 240 pounds without weight loss surgery because of SPARKPEOPLE and dared to dream again. It turned my life completely around. I began moving and went from bedridden and lifting shampoo bottles in bed to walking. I went from lying in bed all day to a meaningful life. I went from disabled to a hopeful career. Thank you SPARKPEOPLE! If you're out there thinking your dreams won't come true, just start taking small, deliberate steps in the right direction. Don't wait for magical motivation. It's a myth and so is will power. Eating foods that don't tick of your body's hunger hormones is a great start. Try adding fruits, veggies, lean protein, whole grains, healthy fats, and water to your menu and the rest will fall to the side more naturally. ADD good habits to your life. The bad ones fall away.

Life is happening now, not 10 pounds from now. ~Indygirl

Just found out today that someone I knew from church in Florida passed away from cancer that she has been battling for 2 years. She was a truly beautiful person both on the inside and out, she was on our worship team and other than using a stool to sit on, on her bad days you never would know anything was wrong with her, she was that type of person. She leaves behind a husband and 3 teenagers without a mother. It makes me wonder... sometimes with all I have gone through, why didn't God take me and let her live. I have no one who relies on me, no children I will miss seeing grow up, get married and have their own children. I have no husband who will grieve over not having a partner. I know we are not made to understand God and His ways are not ours, but it grieves me to know so many lives are hurting right now because she is not there with them, when it could have been so different. My family is not really close, so there's not really anyone who would really miss me... why cause so much pain within a family when it could be so different? Guess it's one of those things about God I'll never understand.

Hey, no worries about replying! Life happens!!!!

I am happy to report that I had a very celebratory day yesterday, on all accounts!! Woo hoo!

I'll think about the challenge..... like I said, the times when I've projected out weight loss goals have worked against me. When my body doesn't cooperate lie I want it to, I get discouraged and in the past, rather than adjust my goals, I just quit.

but I'm thinking about it...... I'm different now, right?

This is not a journey to weight loss; it is a journey about choosing life one day at a time.

How nice to see replies!!! Woot!!!

I am celebrating today in anticipation of my official weekly weigh in.... it should be a good one. I've worked very hard. I am also celebrating in anticipation of 2 books that I think will have some good nutritional/dietary advice/ideas in them..... if the USPS would just cooperate! LOL! Still, I anticipate receiving them soon, and that gives me lots of hope. I am also celebrating the anticipation of some chair exercise videos I ordered today! Again, just hoping the USPS cooperates!

AND, I am also looking forward to a weekly weight loss support group I go to (TOPS) on Wednesday mornings where the ladies are fun and hysterical and I love being around them..... tomorrow is our first meeting at a new meeting place. So that should be fun! However, even if the scale comes up with something different tomorrow than what I anticipate it will, then I'm still going to have a great day and just work harder for this next week.

So, lots of celebrating over this way!!!! How's everyone else doing?? I'm looking forward to getting to know my team mates, so we can cheer each other on!

Hi Team!

I haven't been active in any of my Spark Teams, but I'm finding that I sure could use some friends and an online Spark People support network if I'm ever going to get out of this scale vortex.

I'm interested in the challenge, but I'm afraid to put a goal like that in writing. My body seems to lose weight in its own time, so when I project a weight loss goal, it's never worked out for me. On the other hand, if I focus on nutrition and a little movement, and let the scale do what the scale wants to do, it seems to work better for me.

So, I'm here, looking for friends and connections.

Where was her stroke at Debbie? That is what I keep trying to find out from my doctors, if I will ever not have the dizziness, nausea and imbalance from the brainstem stroke. They keep telling me they can't say for sure. None of the doctors I have had have had brainstem stroke patients live or live and not be in coma like state... so they keep saying they can't tell me if this will always be my baseline or if it will improve.

It's just a recumbant exercise bike, by my bed, tends to make me dizzy so I need to rest afterwards, so I had to put it in a safe place for me since my strokes. But believe me, I do not want surgery, so I am being very very careful....thanks for the concern Sheryl. emoticon

DLYNN, keep an eye on what hurts, biking uses different muscles than walking, I couldn't understand why I could walk for miles and get tired biking around the block.

Nothing that will strain the abdomen,, but besides that as long as it doesn't increase my pain it's ok. If my pain starts increasing he wants me to slow back down. He said it will be kinda like an achilles heel for the next month or so. (He's worried about the inflamed pouches tearing with them already being weakened and then that would require surgery). Today I walked for 30 min and did ok. Only was able to 6 min on the bike though.

So I went to the Dr. for my diverticulitis follow up. I can now move from the liquid diet to a low fiber diet. Here is what is on my list
1. White bread, white potatoes and pastas only. NO grains, nuts, seeds, oats..
2. Soft fruits only, no cruncy fruits or fruit with skin, no cruciferous vegetables, no vegetables or other food items over 3 gms of fiber
3. Ground beef, veal, pork, other soft meats.
4. Eggs. Fiber NOT TO exceed 10 gms/day.
I have to follow this for the next month at least, longer if I am still having any intermittant pain periods.
I read it and was like OK... still determined to lose weight on it, not stopping me, just need to figure out the way!!!! emoticon

Have fun Covegirl and be careful.....

Beth .... I really wish I could make the rally's they sound like so much fun...... but until we can get ourselves on our feet financially and family issue wise, my fun will have to wait. Don't count me out forever though..... we might just jump in our RV and head that way when we are able too. Wouldn't that be funny! emoticon emoticon

Well my darling daughter is in the weight loss / healthy mood kick this morning.... I pray it works for her this time!

I have joined with miss Beth so I will see what 12 months brings me.... It's not like I'm not getting the extra exercise up and down my RV steps! emoticon

I just got to thinking this morning that God must have wanted me to go with the RV at this time in my life because while we were looking at different RV's my mind never ventured to the (what if my knees give out or my back starts to spasm) train of thought. I always think that way..... you know? I can't go there on vacation because it's to much walking.... I can't go to the zoo because it's to much walking ..... I can't go to the flower gardens because there might be stairs to climb emoticon .... but for some reason that never came to mind when we decided on the RV way of life.... curious huh?!

10 times a day sounds so much like a comp out to some I'm sure, but compared to not having accomplished ANY exercise three weeks ago, you can count this as a mini marathon for me! emoticon emoticon

Sheryl, I will check this out....

Covegirl .... I have been there before. I walk around in a funk most of the time requardless of the amount of sleep I have gotten...... Keep us posted.

OK..... I have a new spiral notebook and plan to get moving on (THE HEALTHIER ME) .
BC was 162 ..... not a good start this morning but it IS a start!

I also had one of those AHA...... moments when I went to get into our pickup truck this morning. We have side step rails to help me get in and out of the truck. I usually put my right foot on the rail and then DRAG my left leg up.... then I catch a breath and swing myself into the seat and by then I am breathing deep. emoticon
Well as most of you know, me and DH moved into our RV about 3 weeks ago.......
This morning after doing what I call (MY STAIR STEPPER EXERCISES) emoticon
getting in and out of the RV every single time at least 10 times a day!

I stepped up on the side rail of the truck and swung myself into the seat in one smooth motion!
HOW AWESOME WAS THAT?! emoticon emoticon

Deb, here is a link to the 'dirty' dozen and 'clean' 15. The first all the foods that contain the most pesticides and should be bought organic if at all possible. The second are the ones that are recognized as safe grown conventionally. This is very helpful in determining where to spend your food dollars. Everyone knows about apples, but very few know that celery is in the dirty dozen. I was surprised. www.ewg.org/foodnews/?tag=2012Foodne

Good Morning!

Sheryl .... We have a huge farm close by that does a fruit / veggie stand on Saturday mornings on the square. It's great food but he is VERY costly! emoticon
I can't afford most of his produce so I have to try and rely on the organic section at the grocers.
I do try to get stuff grown as local as possible and always wash everything.... emoticon

Covegirl .... It still sounds like a lot of fun! emoticon

GINI ! .... Two places today! I am so very glad to have you back...... emoticon

Dad and I am tootling along and making changes as we go. New style of life, LOTS of adjustments, but so far it's a good thing! emoticon

Next best thing, know your farmer, we have farmers markets here, unfortunately summer is tough on food crops here in south Florida, but other parts of our state are producing. Learn where it comes from, who grows it, what growing methods they use, most of the farmers are happy to give you this information, in fact if there is something you haven't tried before they will see that you get a taste. Love my farmers, I can't garden where I live, but this is my alternative.

Hi Deb and everyone else. I just rejoined this team. In the spring I had to withdraw from many of my teams as I was overwhelmed but am on a steady keel now and am glad to be back. I can't wait to get to know and remeet all of you and spend some time with SF here.

Covegirl .... That sounds interesting....

Are you doing the demonstrating? I wouldn't be good at that at all. My poor plants are on there own once they are in the ground! I know just enough to pull the weeds and water them and I'm not real sure if I'm doing that right or not..... emoticon

Deb, you are doing all you can. You made the only decision possible, now your visits will be the new memories. Unfortunately, some people get angry with this disease, it is sad, but true. Remember to keep yourself number one, only then can you take care of those you love. Loose the guilt, you don't need it.

I wish I could have had that kind of time with my mother but unlike your family members, my mother refused to move in with us. When we took her home from the hospital last month the doctors said that she needed to stay with someone until she was settled some where. We took her to our/our daughters house and attempted to follow doctors orders. Remember, we sold our house to our daughter and her husband......

She (mom) had a terrible temper tantrum in front of the children screaming at me, our daughter, screaming about the children, openly arguing with my daughter who was trying to defend the family and her children, and did everything (including) threaten us all if we didn't get her out of there and back into her apartment. Our daughter had to remove THIER children from THIER home until we could get mom packed and removed.

They now live in the house and we live in the RV. Mom can NOT reside with our daughter and her children again and I now have no place for her.

So the only option available is a full time Nursing Facility. YES, I feel guilty every time I see her, think about her, or pray on all of this! I cry about it and get frustrated about it but she left me NO choice......

I'm sorry if this conversation seems combative, I really do not mean for it to be, I just get so frustrated trying to defend the decisions I have had to make...... emoticon

That is so true, people do not realize what a stressful job it is. Not to mention giving up your own life to care for them. I am thankful I gave my time for my mother and aunt and I would have been just eat up with guilt if I had not, but a little help would have been nice too

Sheryl I HATE seeing small sleepy towns blow up into major cities and with Disney located there it probably buried your sweet little town quickly! I'm so sorry!

I am not concentrating as much on food lately and I am trying not to eat and nibble at night although I failed miserably last night...... I think it has a lot to do with all the walking I am getting in as well. Moms room is all the way to the end of the hallway so I am forced to walk from the parking lot and down the long hall every time I go to visit. If she needs anything then I walk for that too. Now add climbing up and down out of the RV and you have a good little work out for my sedentary body emoticon

Yesterday I attended the Florida Small Farm Conference over in Kissimmee. Kissimmee is where my mothers family is from, so I got to visit our family cemetery, say hello to my grandparents and other relatives. For those of you that don't know, Orlando is not where Disney build his magic kingdom, it was Kissimmee, this sleepy little town of my childhood is now a bustling city, the location of the conference is where we used to go to rodeo's and have family reunions. I know change is good, but too much change is not.

Too bad it would have been fun. I use my crockpot a lot in the motorhome, but we do also have a gas stove inside and a camp stove and a grillfor outside, almost what we have at home but smaller. lol. Let me know when you are ready and we will try this again.

WOW.....
I'm probably going to be in trouble with this challenge and may have to opt out for a little while longer. This RV really isn't set up for any cooking other than the microwave for right now so I will catch you on the next round.....

You could get your own oats, steel cut is best and flax seed to make your own, more nutrients and less chemicals. My DH doesn't like steel cut so he uses regular oats and still does the microwave. I am not sure what the microwave does to the nutrients in food, the only think we use ours for is baked potatoes and DH oatmeal. I will probably not replace it when it goes this time.

Hmmmmm... can't make this one.. "Better Oats Oatfit" is my daily breakfast... it's an instant oatmeal I get at Costco it has flaxseed in it and fewer calories than quaker. Only 100 calories/pk. That would put it in the processed food category emoticon Sorry.

Good Morning team,

Happy Monday! Today I am going to start anew to build myself bit by bit to a new level of fitness, with the sickness that has lasted over a month I have let myself go back to my couch potato ways. Today a new set of goals and a new chance to reach them. Let's do this, even if it is just a small goal for the week.

That is the only way, DH and I have always done that, then after loading the dresser, put them in for traveling, take them out again for light moving. Good thinker your daughter!

I have been so busy the last few days I haven't been stopping by.

Deb, I hope your mom's transition to assisted living has been fairly peaceful, you know you are doing what needs to be done.

Yea Anita, not a requirement for A/C at all. I don't think anyone had them then. I just know that anyone from that area that says Florida is hot should feel the difference! Whew!

I think this summer has been so strange. One day the weather is typical summer, than we have a week of Spring or Fall like temps. I'm bummed about it.

Sheryl,
It is odd getting used to the no air conditioning or just the little window units. Used to be just opening the windows and letting the breeze blow was enough. I forgot that a/c isn't a requirement in Indiana!!! LOL.

OH boy!
Tomorrow we start packing up moms apartment. I DO NOT look forward to that invasion of her privacy.... emoticon

I wish there was another way but I have been told from just about everyone that ( IF ) I were to take her home to go through her stuff, she would sit down and refuse to leave and ( IF ) I had her picked up then she might get hurt or set up a terrible public show of noise and anger! emoticon

So the plan is to box each dresser and label all the contents so that we know where everything is that she might want. I plan to put all the bedroom boxes up front in the storage so that we can get to them easier. She seems to have most of her cherished goodies in the bedroom.
I just pray she settles down and in her mind, forgives me for the betrayal she feels I have committed.... emoticon While trying to keep her safe

DLYNN113, yes it has not helped at all. Funny enough, in the 70's my DH and I loaded up our 3 kids and went to Indiana for a year to help his brother with his business. At that time we left FL during the summer to an average temp of 88 degrees, which is how I remember FL from when I was a child. I have never been so hot as we were there, temps in the 100's for weeks at a time, the 90's at other times. There was lots of rain, but to this FL gal it was miserable. No ocean breeze or shade around the houses (what is up with that anyway?) and worse of all no A/C
