Happy Easter everybody!!! I am officially, this morning in the 280's. woohoo I started out at 363 last September. I never thought, when I started out, I could make it this far. Even though I have lost 75 lbs now, my gains in my health has far outweighed my losses. I weighed in at 288 this morning.

If you don't want to keep starting over, don't give up in the first place.

I love the new feeling of freedom like you all are talking about... like walking and talking. It amazes me. Life out of the wheelchair is stunning enough, but then there was huffing and puffing behind a walker, then losinge the walker and huffing and puffing, and now I feel like air some days.

Life is happening now, not 10 pounds from now. ~Indygirl

We had a nice day here yesterday also. I did some much needed mulching, yesterday for my exercise. I was amazed, how much more energy I had, than when I did this last year.

Yep, we went from 96 yesterday to a high so far of 69, love the weather in Florida.
Other than that I met an old friend for breakfast this morning, had a Mediterranean omelet, fruit and rye toast. Yummy food and wonderful company. We solved all the worlds problems in just over an hour and had the rest of the day off.

I hear you about the sodium. Sodium is my number one enemy!!! I try to keep mine around 1500 daily for me. It is not an easy task to do so, either. What few, can veggies that I buy, I buy no sodium added. For the most part, I eat the majority of my veggies raw. It makes me so mad when I read labels, and the portion size has a higher number of sodium than it does calories. On days that I don't stay in range, on my sodium; the scales always, always shows a 2-3 lb gain. But all in all, I would have to say, adding sodium to my tracker, has helped me a lot on my weight loss. It sure was an eye opener, seeing how much sodium a day, I was consuming before, I woke up. Good luck on your journeys.

I need to really do what I was doing last year: cut the sodium. I don't know why I thought that I had permission to introduce the sodium back to my life, since I am not getting any younger or healthier that my body is able to handle big amounts of sodium without rising the BP.

I rinsed the canned beans, olives, and many other canned foods. I limited to the minimum eating deli meats. I didn't use the salt shaker. I read the labels to check the sodium content.

Have a wonderful Sunday.

emoticon emoticon emoticon Have a wonderful weekend.

I need to behave today because tomorrow is my weight in day. Although I have been trying, to eat only the meals that I have cooked in advance, many times I add some not so good snacks.

emoticon DLYNN1113. You are in my prayers and my thoughts. About the probiotics, when I got these probiotic kefir grains, I read that you need to start easy to avoid nausea, stomach cramps , diarrhea, etc. I started drinking 1 fl. ounce only. Now I drink half a cup almost daily. Also, I add 1 teaspoon of miso paste, that is another probiotic, to my soups, instead of salt. There are some articles in the internet, that talks about it.

DLYNN, Dr. Oz had a show on yesterday about foods that cause problems with digestion. He said to avoid fish and chicken but to eat red meat--especially lamb. Also avoid peanuts, beans, fruit (except lemons and limes), eggs and milk. He also said only white flour products--not whole wheat. There were more things, but I forget. Maybe you could find it online on his website. There were 2 shows the past 2 days about what to eat and what to avoid for inflammation and digestion and I get the 2 mixed up, but it might help you so do take a look at it. Hope all is well with you.

DLYNN1113 ..,... Consider It Done!
Hang in there and breath deep sweetie!
My daughter has a milk intolerance and just smelling dairy will cramp her up so much...... She eats lactose free yogurt and milk.

Sheryl ...... Have a super great weekend!
WOW, it was 81 degrees yesterday and DH and I slept without covers most of the night. We are in big trouble this summer......

We have a cool front coming in next week and I am on cloud 9 in anticipation! I could do without the storms but we are low on rain fall and can really do with a real good soaking.....

Deb, thanks for the suggestions... I had tried probiotics for a couple of weeks and they made the cramping and diarrhea worse, so I stopped... but maybe I didn't give them a long enough time to work. Just kinda doing what you said sticking with bland foods.... don't really feel like eating much at all anyway. Gonna keep it light next week for the procedure anyway. But if I could ask for a favor. For the procedure I have to be off my medication for the strokes (that prevents clots) for 5 days. With having had one of my strokes in the brain stem and being told I already shouldn't have lived through that....well being off the meds makes me a little nervous. Since the brain stem controls your life functions can't help but think what if I have another one. So if you could say a prayer or two for me, would very much appreciate it. I know it's all about trusting God, but our little human minds sometimes work overtime, and with 17 years of being a pediatric ICU nurse mine likes to really work overtime!!!! Thanks in advance. Have a blessed week-end.

Mine are too craftsfan... the dr thinks it could be irritable bowel syndrome, since I can't relate it to any one thing in particular, but have to do all the testing first to rule everything else out. It's just frustrating never knowing when it is going to come on. The only thing we know it's not is Celiac because those tests all came back negative. Have to wait till after next Friday to find out more. Sorry you are going through it....will keep you in my prayers, I know how miserable it is.

DEB ..... That's AWESOME! emoticon emoticon

Good Morning Everyone!

It's promising to be a challenging day already and I'm still sitting on my bed.....

DD and her family seem to be on the down hill side of this virus. She's so very tired and my mothers heart breaks for her :(
At least the 3 older children are back at school today and the 3 yr old loves to cuddle up in mommas bed watching cartoons so she can get a little rest. Her DH is still sick but self sufficient anyway.

My tummy feels a little icky so I am holding my breath :(

Another amazing day that God has supplied us and I am hoping to get to enjoy it a little. The pollen is up for trees and weeds so it will have to be a short enjoyment :)

Have a totally AWESOME day my friends!

emoticon emoticon I hope that you have a good, if not wonderful day.

emoticon NEWTEXDEBBIE. I hope that your DD family get over their health problems soon. Just be careful when you visit them. I have learned that is good to wash your hands often and avoid to touch your face to avoid contact with the virus. Take care.

emoticon DLYNN1113. I am sorry to hear that you have stomach cramps. What could that be? I am having them here and there without being able to find a culprit. Sometimes I think are the beans, some others the milk, or any other food. The problem is that the cramps are very erratic.

emoticon SHERYLP461. I am very glad that you found the site that you were looking for.

Well I heard from the DD who text messaged me at 3 am....

Mommy I don't feel so well ....

No matter how old your children are your heart breaks when they are ill, hurt, or sad. So now my DD, her DH, and all four children have this crud..... The children seem to be getting better finally but mom and dad have just began. Looks like I'm headed to the drug store for a mask so I can head in there.....

The pollen is terrible here this morning and we are under an OZONE warning for this evening. NOT a good thing for me and DH who both have COPD. DH has only 35% of his lung capacity so it really hits him hard.

Have a super beautiful day today!

DLYNN1113 ..... WHAT ABOUT THE PROBIOTICS? I HAVE HEARD A LOT OF PEOPLE SAY THAT THEY HELP WITH REGULATEING THE BOWELS AND GETTING ALL THE FUNCTIONS OF THE COLON UNDER CONTROL.... JUST A THOUGHT......

I HAVE BOUGHTS OF (STRESS RELATED IBS) AND IT'S NOT FUN. TRY STAYING AS BLAND AS POSSIBLE AND GO BACK TO THE BASICS OF A SOFT/BLAND DIET FOR THE WEEK, JUST TO SEE IF IT WILL HELP..... MAYBE SOME JELLO ALONG THE WAY?????

So sorry about the caps.... I didn't notice until I had typed this all out :( Keep us posted on your progress.

Debbie, sorry everyone is sick, and you are right it is the last thing you need!!! I understand the frustration with the low carb thing... it's hard, but I have faith that you will pick up and do it. I've been having stomach issues for a couple months now to where I don't know what to eat. One day I can eat something and it is ok, the next day I'll eat it and I'm in bed with horrible stomach cramping and diarrhea for the day, or something will make me so I have trouble moving my bowels. I never know from one day to the next what it will be. Sunday, it was either carrots or baked chicken that had me curled up in bed all day Monday with stomach cramping and diarrhea, and I usually have a pretty high pain tolerance. GI MD has ruled out Celiac, thinks it is probably irritable bowel syndrome from stress, but can't say for sure till after a procedure that I will have on the 18th. So lately eating for me is frustrating.... salads definately do me in right now so they are off the list. Thats about the only one I have figured out. Will keep you in prayer for the carb issue. Have a great day!!!!

It's interesting to read Beth's message and something to think about. I was excited to get on the scales and see a little weight loss. Yes, I'm motivated and thank all of you for being here for support.

The weather here is fantastic! I love the 50 - 70 temps during the day.....

My DD has a virus running through the family at her house. She has 4 cots spread out on the living room floor with 4 children throwing up in bowls and occasionally on the covers. She said she is so very tired and I can bet she is. I have no idea what to do to help...... If I go over there then I take the chance of spreading it through this house and DH doesn't need to be around that type of illness. My Nanas heart hurts for them so much! emoticon

I am still struggling trying to get this jump start with my low carb diet going again. It's like my brain wants to shut down right now and play dead....

I wish you all a chance to enjoy this beautiful gift of Gods weather and NOT this terrible bug floating around....

I received a comment on my blog that was GENIUS! Just what I needed to ask myself to give myself strength when fighting emotional eating- I call it emo eating.

How will getting fat (again) help?

WOW POWERFUL! I thought about the situations that are getting me down and none of them would be easier if I gained weight. They would be harder. Why? Because I recently regained my ability to walk and my freedom from a wheelchair. I need to stay thinner to take care of myself and my husband, whether he has cancer or not. I just now started working again and I need to stay mobile to do that. I do SparkPeople Rallies and I REALLY enjoy that part of my life. That too would go away of I got fat again. So everything I have worked so hard for= a life, would go away of I got fat again and I would once again lie in my bed waiting to die. Not going to happen.

SO WHAT IS IT YOU WANT MORE THAN FOOD?

I went back to thank the person for their comment, and the comment was either gone, or I couldn't find it. So thank you and all of the rest of you who said prayers, offered advice and care. I know I communicate in blogs most of the time, rather than individually. That's because I care about so many of you and I just don't have time to write each of you. I also want to encourage anyone and everyone who may happen across my blogs. My dream is that my blogs reach people in bed, just like I was, bedridden, who feel hopeless, and they learn that they too can do something... maybe not everything. Something is always better than nothing.

I feel lifted up and strong today! Woohoo! Let's do this!

Life is happening now, not 10 pounds from now. ~Indygirl

It's suppose to be in the 80's here today also. I am gonna get my exercise today, working in the yard. Exercise is agreeing with me, the scales are starting to move again. The past couple of months, had slowed down some.

GOOD MORNING TEAM!

We have a warm and muggy morning here in my little piece of Texas and a high calling for 80 this evening. I am personally a 60's and 70's kind of person so when the temps start to climb I get a little lazy. So my plan for the day is to stress less emoticon (IF) possible while taking momma to the beauty shop for a well needed shampoo, color, and trim...... Of course I will have my 3 year old granddaughter by my side and thankfully her aunt on the way to the shop and her mommy on the way back! Momma is on a walker and of course the granddaughter is in a car seat so when I drop momma off at the shop it turns into a work out! emoticon

Have a truly beautiful day where you are today! emoticon

I think I'm getting to OLD for all of this emoticon

My husband just underwent surgery to remove precancerous cells from his colon. They think they got them all. The cells are now being biopsied and we need prayers that they are not indeed cancer.

Finances have been less than stellar. Ive been struggling with one of my bff's, trying to start an at home business to help with finances, and this emotional eating is on the rise... So I picked up a bunch of fruits and veggies lately to just have around the house to snack on. I can't seem to get a grip on eating, so I have to get a grip on WHAT I eat and what I do. There are many many approaches to weight loss and when one stops working for you, don;t throw in the towel, switch it up! Move more and eat better food if you can't seem to get a grip on your quantity at the moment. Fruits and veggies and lea proteins will help you lose weight with some moderate activity. Restricting yourself under stress, I personally have found, leads to totally nutty behavior. But hanging onto a healthy lifestyle and prayer gives me a sense of peace and control that wouldn't otherwise be there.

So, for those of you who have wondered where I am... I am struggling with life and am in need of prayers for my husband to not have cancer, for the finances to pay the medical bills, and for the emotional upheaval to settle down a bit. Thank you for always being here for me!

Beth

Just wanted to check in and say hi. I haven't been able to get on the computer as sitting up puts strain on my hip. My son gave me an ipad for my b'day and I'm learning to use that now instead. The only way I can sit without pain is lying back in the recliner or flat on my back in bed. SOOOOOO glad I see the surgeon later in April to schedule hip replacement surgery! Wish I'd done it a year ago. Still, I'm sticking with my program and am down 14 lb. since March 1. I hadn't been eating real healthy for several weeks before that (since I got out of the hospital I was eating more carbs and things that were easy on my ulcer--not so easy on calories). So I'm thinking some of that 14 was water--it's just like I was beginning all over. I'm so looking forward to being able to get my mobility back and start to exercise more than I can in the chair. Even that is very painful, so there's not much I am able to do now. Taking it one day at a time and definitely not focusing on the scales--for the first time in my life.

Craftsfan, thats a great idea on the small changes. That has helped me a lot on my journey the past six months. I started out drinking more water, then I added no eating seconds on meals. Next was stop eating at fast food places etc etc. Those little changes along the way really add up on making healthier choices. I would make a new small goal challenge per week. If I didn't make it a whole week, then I would go for two weeks on the same goal if needed. Now I am doing the same with my exercising. Starting out slow and easy and working my way up, that way I figure I won't burn out.

Raw seems to fill me up pretty quick too, like apples pears stuff like this. All high fiber items. I have started eating vegan 3 times a week, no weight loss yet, but I see to have more energy. I think heavy foods weigh us down and make up lethargic, such as meat and potatoes.

Today was another good day of no snacking. I stayed up too late and my husband's job called around 3 a.m. and I couldn't get to sleep. I did get back to sleep around 6 a.m. and got up around 11 a.m. That was all wrong for me. Now, one of my goals is to get in bed by 11 p.m.
As another posted, I like the idea of not adding more challenges and working on a few at a time for a couple of weeks.

DLynn; I have the same concerns you had about Beth so I am glad you asked. I don't have the answer but maybe some of her personal friends do. She is such a special person and I want the best for her just as we all do. I hope all is well.

Deb, that is awesome, we are headed to NC on the 17 of April to pack up some more of our stuff to bring home. The cabin finally sold and the new owners are being patient with us moving out. with our motorhome it makes more sense not to own.

emoticon emoticon I hope all of you have a wonderful day.

emoticonLISA579. I am glad that your friend has such a kind friend like you. I hope that she gets better and beats the cancer.

emoticon Yesterday, I had problems reaching my lower calories range. I felt stuffed. Or maybe the reason was that I was eating very healthy food and my body didn't need to look for nutrients anywhere else.

Last week I re-entered the habits that I was working on last year, like having a green smoothie for breakfast, planning my weekly meals, batch cooking, following the menu, and walking or chair exercise for at least 10 minutes. Also, I have the habit of making my bed first thing in the day. I was on pilot.

Above zero and raining here what the bleepers is going on...lol.
I am doing better. My friend had brain surgery last week to remove a cancerous tumor. She is doing really well. It was very stressful. Plus she and her husband were getting ready to move to a bungalow as because of the cancer she already has she has mobility issues. I have been going over and packing so it is almost done.

Does anyone know is INDYGIRL ok? Just haven't seen her on here in awhile. I know she is taking classes and has the Cincy rally coming up, so I am sure she is busy....just want to make sure that is all it is. I know she says she gets bombarded by emails, so hate to email her... just a little concerned is all. emoticon

Today was a good day as I did a few exercises and was able to keep my snacking under control. Most of my snacks were fruit and five Saltines. That's success!

Sheryl, I do have one cherry tree, but its not in bloom yet. I joined the Y and I got to go 4 times this week. My goal is to go 3 days a week at least, being its a 30mile round trip to go. I will be doing water aerobics, aqua jogging , and the stationary bike for now for my cardio. I also do some strength training every other day. I am really enjoying what I am doing, and have no idea why, I didn't start this six months ago. Anyhow, I am seeing a difference already, in the toning up and am very pleased. Onward now, to my goal of 100lbs weight loss in one year, woohoo

If you don't want to keep starting over, don't give up in the first place.

NTDeb, you sure keep these girls on their toes. We don't see much of Indygirl anymore. Seems she is so busy with all her side line items. Hope she is doing well and can work on those last few pounds. So many great ideas on here and all of us have the same problem, losing and then gaining. It is always a struggle but ONE day it is going to happen for the best and we will all be so happy with ourselves. Good Luck to each of you. Jude

CRAFTSFAN: I love your idea of making one small change and sticking to it for 2 weeks and then adding another. I have been gaining and losing. gaining and losing, etc. IN the process I have gained back 10 lbs. of my 30 pound loss!
One of my goals was to get 10,000 steps each day. I was doing great until we got to Texas for the winter and then I lost my focus. The weather here has been cold and blustery (for Texas) and I have been hibernating since November!
Last night I was determined to get those 10,000 steps in and I did it! I'm going to do it today too! And tomorrow. . . .
It really is a great feeling when you get that feeling of accomplishment back no matter how small.

Lynn, we actually were in Valpariso Indiana for one winter, the ONLY time I lived away from my home town. It was so cold, people were dying it was so cold. I swore at that time I would never leave Florida again in the winter. Of course I have, but only as far north as NC. That was cold enough!!
My heart goes out to all of you this year, you should be seeing flowers by now!

NewTexDebbie, we had the same temperature today. I have gained a few pounds as well. For a while I'll do good and then....
Dlynn1113, you're doing great. Yes, this doctor has been saying this for over five years. I was on so many meds that I could hardly think straight. It was very frustrating when I was trying so hard, but mentally couldn't stay focused.

Some of us are struggling and sad because we are gaining what we, with a lot of effort, lost.

Let's start over again.

Every night, let's think about a little change, just a little change that we will have next day. For example: whatever happens during the day, we will dance one song, standing, sitting or whatever. Or it could be: whatever we eat, we are going to drink 1 C of water 10 minutes before the meal.

We can start by writing a long list of changes that we think we need to make, Then, pick ONE AND ONLY ONE change that is easy to accomplish.

Just let's do that little change. We need to regain the sense of accomplishment and habit. We need to keep that little change for at least 2 weeks regardless whatever else we want to do. After that, we need to keep that easy change and add another easy to do change.

For example, if we decide to starve ourselves, if we are going to eat only one leaf of lettuce during the day, we are going to drink the cup of water because that is the change that we decided to keep.

Good Morning!

Wow, it's been quite around here!...... emoticon

Well it's a beautiful day in the neighborhood today and we have so much to accomplish.
Our next door neighbor is having her privacy fence put up this week and the old chain link fence will have to be removed. That means the fence row must be cleared so that they can get in there and get that accomplished. DH is not amused with the idea of working most of the morning in the pollen but he will have the help of our son and his power tools!emoticon

Have a super fun and safe weekend my friends and absorb some well needed vitamin D!

I sit down and plan a supper for each day (some are for leftovers) some are duplicates as we have our favorites. As I enter each meal I add to my grocery list items that I will need from the recipe. For example, we like southwestern turkey meat balls, that's 1 package of ground turkey (or boneless breast to grind in the processor), 1 bag frozen corn and 1 can organic black beans. If I am having this meal twice, I double everything except the corn as there is enough for two meals. If I were to use turkey for different meal I would just add a tally mark for each time it is used. I love clean eating magazines and usually add a recipe or two from there, plus old favorites. It really takes a couple of hours to do it right, but then it is done. I even buy my bread and freeze, although this is one item I wait to go on sale.
Veggies from the market mainly and I shop there weekly.

Hope this helps

That is nice, Sheryl. I try to plan my meals out, but I am a more spontaneous type personality. It works best for me when I try to plan the week's meals and cook only a day or two. That leaves time for my other pursuits.

@ Linda, I have to be very organized, food is our biggest expense. I find when I shop monthly I can take advantage of the lower pricing you get when buying larger packaging. I take them home and separate into meal size portions. If I shop for the month I spend about $250.00 at the grocery stores and another $60 at the markets. If I buy by the week it's about $400.00 plus the market. I have other uses for that money and we eat a lot better when I shop this way.

You sound like you are super organized. I surely look forward to fagrm stands and farmer's markets again. It will be about two months before that will happen here.

Shopping completed, what a chore. First I have to make my menu for the month, then shop at 3 to 4 stores to get the best deals. It is over now though except for my weekly farmers market visits. We are lucky enough to be in the top 10 farmers markets in the nation. We have 99% farmers only at our market and 1 re-seller from the early days. Basically I only visit my 4 favorite booths though and get enough freshness for the entire week.

Good for you Linda, I am headed out to the grocery I have been overeating all week...not sure why though as I usually stick to around 1200 cals.

Lisa, it is getting chilly here too with a big wind. Not hitting 70 today.
