You know, this last week, I started strength training with weight machines for the first time in 20 years... OUCH in a good way. If you can't use your legs, arm bikes like the Magnetrainer are GREAT! Chair exercises are fantastic! See chairexercisefun.com or Coach Nicole has some great stiff out there now.

I'm drinking my whey protein shakes daily because I don't take in enough otherwise.
I take a greens supplement now in addition to my fruits and veggies.
I still take my cinnamon and chromium 2000.
I'm on vitamin D3000, magnesium, calcium, coq10, pqq, coconut oil, bq12 and complex liquid, turmeric, and Alive multivitamins. I would like to say I take Omegas, but I get them via additives in milk and flax.

My eating program is simple-
TRACK- even if I go over
Keep foods as natural as I can
Order one size smaller than I want to
Avoid high fructose corn syrup
NEVER allow trigger foods in the house- go out and eat them if I have to have them

Drink water
Lemon water- Like 4 lemons to a quart sliced is very helpful in eliminating water weight

MOST OF THE WORK IN LOSING WEIGHT IS IN YOUR HEAD! The things above are just the stuff you have to DO. The real work is making yourself behave the way you know you should.
What you have to remember is:

Take every choice one at a time.
Use the word IMMEDIATELY as in I will immediately turn this around, not get back on track tomorrow. By tomorrow, you may have a pound or two more damage done.
Don't eat something just so you won't binge on it later. Yes, been there.
It takes less effort to just work out than to keep putting it off and feel crappy and depressed about not working out and then binge over your not working out.
One slice of pizza always has less calories than two.
Something is always better than nothing.
YOU deserve good food! Quit wasting your money on crappy MCDonalds and junk and justifying it and then saying you have no money for healthy food. That SAME money could buy healthy food. We are just programmed to buy what is bad for us as a treat and NOT what is good for us as a treat. Start buying yourself something healthy and decadent for a treat. Been there and done that too.
Don't take water pills to lose weight because you can't pee out a pizza.
You have to change your life before you can change your weight, not the other way around.

I hope my tips help someone. They were hard won.

Today is my 50th birthday and I celebrate not with just a piece of cake, but with the knowledge that I am happier and healthier than I was at 40 weighing 230 pounds more. Thank you SparkPeople and thanks to all of you who have cheered me on and supported me.
Now my goal is to get into the 100's by my next birthday and gain some muscle.

Life is happening now, not 10 pounds from now. ~Indygirl

I have a new addiction - Fresh pineapple! Yum! I went on U-tube and learned how to pick them out and how to cut them and they are delicious and if I get them at Sams, they are less expensive then the canned version! DH is loving them too!

Picking up fresh farm eggs tomorrow. I don't eat them but DH does, can't stand the thought of the chlorine our Gvt. makes egg producers go through, yes even the organic eggs. I get mine from my local farmer, no chlorine for me!

Deb,
You can get the Dandelion leaf tea in bag form, I don't know if you have a Nutrition Smart where you live, but they have it. It is easy to make though, they have the root chopped in the bulk herb section. I make a quart at a time, 3 tsp to each cup of water, bring to a boil simmer for 15. minutes. I strain into a quart jar then use the root again for a second batch, simmer for 20 minutes. It only costs about $2.00 for the root and about $6.00 for the tea bags.
Store in the fridge I warm up 1 cup and add honey, 3 times a day. Use a glass pot to prepare.

Sheryl - I'll ask my doc about the dandelion tea.

I did some serious sleeping last night! I would have slept a bit longer but had to get up to wait on fed-ex which still has not shown up! Grrr! Anyway feeling more rested that's for sure! My sleep patterns are not the best but I do the best I can for being bipolar! I hate running on a sleep deficit!

Hi blue jay, and ladies, so today has been a day of beginnings, I have been keeping busy, had to clean my carpet in living room it had a glass of coffee spilt on it by accident. the got busy in the kitchn boxed up items I dont use but think I will to give to goodwill, trying to organize more areas that are small but hidden. I had 2 eggs for breakfast with an english muffin....had coffee with the creamer 35. calories a tablespoon....this is where I struggle as I do not use 1 tablespoon....its easy to just poor it...so thought about your idea of tea throughout the day instead just coffee in the morning first...trying to find small changes to make...have not had lunch as I had breakfast late. My goal is to get those veggies in so for dinner I will have broccoli with what I fix....hmmm whats for dinner :)

Deb and Jeanne,
Try some Dandelion tea, it is good for water retention plus is full of potassium so you don't get low losing all that water. Check with your dr's first though. I was taken off my blood pressure meds when I was sick in October and started retaining water again. I made myself a tea of Dandelion root ( leaves work too) and drink it three times a day. No more holding water.

Deb - Good for you on clearing out the stuff that makes you bloat!

Went to the dr. today for dizziness and found it could be several things including a heart murmur the dr just discovered. I have to go in for an echo cardiogram on the 16th and make sure it is not a serious murmur. I must admit to being a bit worried but since there is nothing I can do about it, I am trying to just set it on the back burner for now. The other things the dizziness could be are: some fluid I have in my ears, my thyroid running whacky or a touch of vertigo. We have fixes in the works for all of those possibilities.

The doctor is very pleased with my drop in weight! My b/p is down and everything else looks good except for my good cholesterol is still a bit low.

OH WOW!
The Christmas meals yesterday were apparently LOADED with sodium and I have a lot of work to do before I weight in on Wednesday! emoticon

We finally went through all the crackers and breads in the house so my late night snacking has been crippled severely. We have no potatoes left and about one more serving of instant potatoes left in the cabinet. I am systematically ridding the house of the bad things that bloat my system and then I will not allow myself to add them in the grocery basket anymore!

I went to the clothing store to get a Christmassy looking shirt for yesterday and when I entered the dressing room with the three way mirrors I came face to face with myself.....

ALL of myself! emoticon

Want to talk determination? Go visit a three way dressing mirror.... better yet, strip down to your undies and THEN look again! YEP, I am definitely on plan!
Now I need one of those mirrors installed in the RV emoticon

Our Choir Madrigal Dinner at church WAS over and I'm so glad. I was starved after our evening performance. They put out a buffet for the choir members. I was good and did not overeat. Probably because I was there all day and just wanted to get home and sleep.

I did really well at DH's company Christmas dinner last night! Did not go over calories even though I went over a bit on fats. They had a buffet but I ate only things I could track. I didn't know it was a buffet and had picked out my meal before from their menu so I had to do a quick re-organization of my thoughts and I am so glad I really studied that portion chart so I could correctly eyeball my food! I knew that "deck of cards" was 3 oz of meat and so forth! Whew!

One of the elders wives at church is catering a lunch for the visiting missionaries at our church. I have volunteered to help so this will be a busy morning and noon time.
THEN.... Our churches Christmas party is today as well. So we start that around 4pm with santa, a childrens play, and a dinner afterward.... I will be getting way over my 10 exercise plan my diet coach set me this week :)
HAVE A BEAUTIFUL DAY my friends!

What goo reasons to be happy!
I am happy I have my laundry done so it doesn't interfere with cleaning house today. Working on a schedule has really helped me keep up, laundry Thursday, house cleaning Friday. I will then be able to enjoy the weekend without thoughts of what I should be doing creeping in.

I've been tracking like crazy, but I'm heading out of range in calories, fat and carbs lately. YIKES! Time to zip it up tight! I've found that cinnamon, yes the spice, helps with these cravings and you can use the table stuff from your spice cabinet on your food or buy it in pill form. I use the capsules because I get more in that way. I choose the kind that is combined with chromium by natures bounty because it helps A LOT with the cravings and is only like $10 for a huge bottle. I've taken it for my whole weight loss, but have been a bit lax lately. I see the difference it makes now.

Life is happening now, not 10 pounds from now. ~Indygirl

I did a very fun thing that will last me yesterday - I downloaded some workout tunes from the 80's for when I am cleaning and doing the elliptical. That is when I loved the music and it brings back good memories and a beat to move the feet to!

Jeanne ...... When we had ours I had to build up 5 minutes at a time..... and that was on a slower speed with out any incline but I built it up a little at a time. Now that we sold it to move into the RV I am probably back to step one......

Sparkling ..... I'm cheering you on with the 5K! Be sure to take pictures.....

Sheryl...... I do ok with them all at home at their home but I don't dare try to take them anywhere alone!

Deb, so you don't totally miss out on your grandchildren growing up; why don't you co-babysit with one of the relatives or perhaps your DH?
4 year old's are usually a handful Jeanne, I really don't have any health issues that would stop me from keeping one, but I doubt I could keep up either!!

Deb - I am working on that getting healthier thingy emoticon Until I do, I don't want to be alone with her anymore either. I will be happy if DH and I can watch her while DD and her DH have some time together. Her sis-in-law watches our grandson for brief periods of time so that should work for them to have some time together. Even DH and I together can't keep up with the almost 4 year old. He is so active and at that age where he's curious and getting into everything!

I only managed 4 minutes on the elliptical today. I guess if I have to just sneak up on that particular exercise, I will minute by minute or even 30 seconds at a time! I downloaded some 80's songs to do the elliptical to and if I can just concentrate on the music instead of my bod maybe I can make it longer. However all the advice I have gotten is to build up slowly. When I was using them at the store, I was taking lots of breaks in between to get all that time in!

Jeanne, I do NOT trust myself alone watching them anymore. I am always afraid that I will get dizzy and go down while I have one or more of the kids. DH and I tag team them when we are needed now and we never take them places. That's one of the big reasons I want to get healthy......

Deb - Stronger Seniors has a chair yoga video...... but there is one segment that changes poses so quickly that it's kind of hard to follow unless you were to slow it down. That segment is about 3 minutes long. The rest of it is pretty good.

My day has gone from bad to worse. I started out wanting to watch my 6 week old granddaughter all day to calling my SIL to get her 3 hours in (he wasn't working). I then agreed to watch her for a couple more hours when he goes to work but then my DD called and said that her sis-in-law (who lives there) will watch her for those 2 hours. So first off I feel like I really let my DD and her husband down. Secondly I feel like my body really let me down.

I was doing all the things you have to do with a newborn with colic and who spits up a lot due to stomach issues and all of a sudden I got dizzy and shaky and felt like I wasn't going to make it through the next 5 minutes. Well I obviously did make it and kept baby safe and got her resting so I could lay down and rest but it scared me and I don't want to be scared about letting baby down.

I really thought I could watch her but my between my back killing me and whatever that dizziness was from (bending over too much I am assuming) I really can't do it. It's so sad for me. Now DD has to get childcare and on top of everything I am trying not to feel guilty because there was a part of me wondering how on earth I was going to take care of me during all this. I have never been selfish like that - ever but I had my baby early so that I could enjoy my middle to late years. Do not get me wrong I LOVE my grands and I wanted to watch that baby but I just didn't think it was going to drain me. This was all between 7 - 10 a.m. and I'm still shaky!

Please forgive my ranting.... I suppose we just all have our days.

Jane ..... Thank you so much for reminding me that I am NOT out here alone or even original. As you put it on your Spark page, NO MORE!

Jeanne ..... You always know just what to say to and for all of us and IF I am a rock then you are the mountain! TY for being my friend!

Sheryl ..... I never thought of chair Yoga.... TY for bringing that to my attention! I use to do breathing exercises on my apartment balcony years and years ago when I could sit on the floor of the balcony in a cross legged stance..... I cant even get on the floor now!

I hate to always give a sob story because I feel like I am just making excuses AGAIN! But here I feel like you all understand where I am at, where I am headed, and that I haven't given up on the trip even if I have done nothing but trip along the way.

I know one thing for sure today ..... emoticon I will not let the people that have been dragging me down emotionally, to keep me down anymore!

I WILL get my life straightened out in spite of their efforts to control me or make me feel less than accomplished, inadequate, or a loser! I AM DONE! emoticon

I am the queen of worry, if I don't have something to worry about I make things up. If I practice yoga it helps a lot, I know you cannot do the full yoga routine, but check for chair yoga. I think you will be surprised in the calmness and flexibility you find.

Deb- I am forever making a mountain out of a molehill as my mom would have said! It's so easy to do! Please don't worry about being a downer because your'e not at all! We come here at times to spout out what is bugging us and that helps us all know that we are not alone in our feelings! At least it does that for me and I guess I should just speak for myself here! I personally think you rock at motivation for us all!

I never saw a wild thing sorry for itself.

True, and sugar is addictive, I am sure you have all see the images of your brain on Cocaine and your brain on "Sugar, they hit the same pleasure centers. Perhaps if we actually realize this it would help, it is certainly scary enough,

Ok.. I am jumping into chat.. I am new here.. well, I keep showing up but then I leave again. LOL. I am going to commit to myself. I follow my kids around and do not take time for me.. I bet that is a familiar story.

I want to be a better example of handling your business than I have been. An example of happiness. LOL. I guess the first thing is getting real, admitting there is only so much time in a day, and doing the best you can... after you take care of your own needs first. I do not view exercise and eating right as basic needs and that has been a major problem for me. I see now that my body is actually my first mode of transportation and I need to get a major overhaul LOL. I am showing up now before I get frightening news that forces me to show up.

As far as starch goes.. yes the more you eat, the more you crave. It breaks down into sugar into your body.. and then creates guerlin (I am sure I spelled that wrong) effects your leptin, and causes trouble. Never eat starch without protein. If you eat a roll, or crackers, or even ramen noodles.. you can expect to be hungry shortly. You know that old joke about always being hungry after you eat chinese food... well there is a reason. You are not crazy... or out of control with your cravings.. your body is responding to what it has been fed.

Debbie: I am really good at turning an ant hill into a mountain. I have discovered if I put off making a decision about something until I am really calm that it helps. It might be a day or two.. but when I do that.. it seems to really prevent me from over reacting. and remember no one gets the Waltons. Not even the Waltons.. LOL. The appeal was always that it seemed just so much better than reality. :) But yeah, I want that life too.. but instead, we can always work on having moments of that life.

I am committed to me..really committed to me for the first time, in like EVER!

YAY Jeanne! Your just doing awesome work!

Sheryle ..... I will figure this all out one of these day's.

CETRIARHAPSODOS ..... Good work!

I'm allowing stress to creep back into my life. I have a bad habit of taking an ant hill and turning it into a mountain before I'm finished. I have no idea why I am like this but some of it is due to just an over all unhappiness whit where my life has ended up. Don't get me wrong, I have an amazing family and a roof over my head but I always built up this big future where my family would all be within arms reach at any given moment and that we would be a lot like the Walton's..... Well THAT didn't happen..... AT ALL!

So onward and upward my friends and it's time for a reassessment.
OK.... Looks like I am a Debbie downer today so I better get off here..... Have a totally awesome work out day my friends and do a few for me!

Good for you Jeanne!

Deb, we have to sometimes take things one step at a time, I think it is so much better than all at once. I think I probably overate too, but I did stick with my plan for one tablespoon of anything I wanted. So not too bad I would guess.

I hope everyone had a great thanksgiving Day! emoticon

I tried real hard but I still managed to over do the carbs and starches emoticon

Sheryl, I have noticed if I eat fruit after my meal then I don't seem to have the urge to have desert..... and I have also noticed, like you mentioned, that when I eat the starches I crave more and more.....
TY for bringing that to my attention emoticon
