My DD has gestational diabetes for the 2nd time around and I know that eating meals and snacks every 3 hours or so is quite the challenge for her! She has trouble with breakfast especially!

I ate that way too until everyone griped at me. Apparently since I am diabetic now, I have to eat every 3 hours. Needless to say I have issues just dropping 1 pound. I felt better eating around 10am and then dinner around 6

today is day one of October unprocessed, we are making chicken stew for supper, includes fresh carrots & potato, tomato sauce I froze in May, corn I took off the cob a month or so ago and froze, with limas I soaked last night about 1 cup.

breakfast was egg with toast from homemade bread and jam my cousin made.

I usually don't eat lunch as I eat breakfast late and dinner early.

We, DH and I, went and got our flu shots yesterday at the doctors office. I hid behind the DH as much as possible so the doctor wouldn't see me..... LOL, I'm due for blood work and it's not going to be pretty I'm afraid! emoticon

Of course DH tried his best to get me another tetanus and pneumonia shot. It's an on going joke between me and DH to try and convince the medical staff that the other needs more shots. Of course they are on to us already and just grin at us...... emoticon

I agree Jeanne, please don't overdo... take care of yourself so you don't get hurt and get the rest you need so you can take care of the two of you for a bit.

Debbie... sorry about the gain.. I know THAT disappointment well, but what a great plan you have worked out.

Today for dinner I had a small (very small) salad with salmon. So say some prayers....

Take care all emoticon

Debbie - Glad you are feeling better - that is a great NSV! I won't be lifting hubby or anything so I'll be okay! He's catching up on the major stuff around here this weekend thank goodness!

We have a woodpecker!! I can't reach to put the cayenne pepper where he's pecking so I have to hope DH gets home while it's still light out and we can grab some cayenne from the store and he can get it put up there! Arrrgh!

YAY Donna and Sheryl ...... Sheryl, I'm late but so very glad you didn't have to have the surgery! That's great!

Jeanne, Be careful and don't lift to much while your caring for the DH..... Take care of you while you take care of him emoticon

Well I was all hyped up for a BIG weight loss this week because I wasn't eating glutens anymore and was so disappointed to be up instead of down emoticon

I just knew I had lost so much because I'm not bloated anymore......
Opps, guess that was wrong! emoticon but I have 2 goals this week.

1. Do everything in my power to NOT ride the handicapped cart at the store. I am back into the habit of not even doing a body check to see if I can walk that day or not.

2. Very low or NO table salt this week......

I will continue to steer clear of the glutens, lactose free, and starches this week and see what happens next week. I do know that my sluggish intestines have picked up and that's a good thing!

Sheryl and Donna - You both make me realize how fortunate I am! I am so glad you are both able to start eating some fiber again!

I felt sick yesterday so I spent the day resting because I have to be well the next couple of weeks as DH is getting a triple hernia operation on Monday and I have to be able to take care of him. I hope I can get back in the swing of things today but I am NOT going to push it for the above reason! If his surgery wasn't coming up I would have exercised yesterday in spite of feeling like I was getting sick and I would have very firm plans to exercise today. I really dislike not being able to get my workouts in! Who'd a thunk I'd ever write that down and mean it?? emoticon

Hope everyone has a beautiful Tuesday!

Count me as another one with gluten insensitivity! Not enough of a reaction to be allergic, but enough that it's unpleasant. I've gotten used to Udi's gluten-free breads, and I've discovered that corn pasta is much better than brown rice pasta!

I'm glad you're feeling better, even though you have to give up some yummy foods!

Deb , it is amazing that so many people are sensitive to gluten. There are only 5 types of wheat grown now and there are thousands of varieties. The reason for this is of course money, these 5 types produce the biggest crop, then let's not forget that some of these 5 have been genetically modified to be "roundup ready", still others have been modified to repel weeds, which means they have a built in pesticide. No wonder it is making us sick. I can tell you my stomach hurts after eating any type of bread except organic. Even at that I don't use wheat flour. The only way we can be sure we are not ingesting these modified foods is to choose organic in as many ways as we can. Corn, Wheat & soy being the biggest modified crops. Also remember to look for the dirty dozen fruits and veggies, the clean 15 are generally safe to eat. Better yet grow your own or know your farmer. It matters!!

This is my blog today. I was writing it here for my buddies but I think it might benefit some of the other team members as well so if you see it repeated as a blog then forgive me!

Sadly I must report that glutens and I have had to part ways emoticon

Since I stopped the glutens and went lactose free the bloating and extreme pain have lessened and all but disappeared. I still hav tenderness around my ribs and it makes me sad to know that yet again I am having to limit the things I can have. I have so many allergies and sensitivities to foods, foods I really like. Rice, rye, barley, lactose and now glutens. It just seems so hard to plan meals so I have become un-interested in planning anything. emoticon

How sad is that for someone that use to love creating new foods and baking fresh breads?
So I am resigned to a life with lean meats (IF I behave), complex carbs emoticon , and all the good things in life that I have ignored for the last 53 years emoticon !

I may learn to enjoy these foods some day emoticon or I may just learn to tolerate

them to some degree but one thing is for sure, I LOVE not having my rib cage hurting so

badly that I think they are cracked emoticon because I swell so much that the fat gets

pushed up against and past my ribs until they swell around them and the pressure is so painful that just touching my ribs is torture! emoticon ! That part of leaving the bad

things behind will not hurt my feelings at all!

UGH!
I was gifted with my grand children's tummy bug from last week. It was short lived so I am already on the mend ..... Wow I hate tummy bugs! emoticon

I found that if I eat 1/2 cup of red grapefruit wedges each morning with some cheerios or raisin bran, I stay fairly regular but I should be taking a stool softener of something.....

I am like Bluejay. I take some meds that cause constipation and have issues a lot but I also took pro biotics on Drs' advice, but found no difference in how I felt or with my other issues. I guess everyone is different.

I will ask the next time I am in... I do take medications that cause elimination problems though and on drs advice I take laxatives from time to time to move things along. I don't like doing it but I also don't like not going.

Sheryl - I was on probiotics but had trouble with painful gas and it did not do a thing for my elimination so I don't spend the money on it any more. I am glad it seems to be working for you though! I have heard good things about it!

Back a few conversations, have any of you tried pro-biotics? I don't mean the ones you get in activia yogurt, but those that you find in the health food stores. There are many good ones, they keep your bacteria in your digestive system healthy and working properly. I usually purchase them for around $19.00 for a month's supply, I feel better and more energetic when taking them and no problems at all with elimination.

Aww Shucks Donna and Gini - thank you ladies! I can't find a blushing emoticon that doesn't look terrible so I'll just say (blush) but in a good way!

I too have the lower belly problems and boy do I get tired of them as well! I think it has to do with my meds as well since it's been a problem for years.

NO dynamite Deb, please.!. I need the same though but for a much more stopped up; issue, if you get my drift. My meds are to blame and so I sometimes wonder how much I would really weigh if I was more regular. I use a prescription product called Lactulose but it can cause it's own issues so have to really wait until it is beyond extreme. TMI, likely. LOL

You are doing fine Deb. Just take it one day at a time. If today was not your day, tomorrow is a clean slate. I am doing fastbreak goals 2 little ones for 2 weeks. That is all I am focusing on right now. We shall see what we shall see at the end of the month.

HI all and I agree, Bluejay is the most supportive person I know. Thanks to all of you for always being ready to help. It makes the journey bearable.

Debbie, I have noticed my water drinking falling off too. I used to go thru at least one if not 1 1/2 Brita pitchers/day. Now I do good to make it through 1/2 pitcher. Not sure why. But need to increase it too.

Sheryl,
They do have them at most all stores now. Target, Walmart, Amazon.... I know some have loved them, my mom had one of the wrist ones and within a year we ended up sending it back 3x for problems with it not functioning. Something about the connector inside it would malfunction. They were great about replacing it though. Ended up getting her a spark tracker, it works better for her with the other one, it was only showing like100 steps a day, but she was using a walker a lot so that probably was why. The spark tracker she puts on her sock and now is tracking almost 1500-2000/day. Not bad for being 85!!!!

Sheryl - I think I saw them on the Walmart site but I am not for sure..... and they sell them at sports stores. What I do when I want to price shop is enter it in google and it spits out lots of stores that I can compare prices at!

I'm not sure about others but the Fitbit works great for me. I couldn't afford much and I have had it for a year now. It resembles the SP one.....

Great day today so far.....
I increased my water intake yesterday and was on the potty most of the night. So irritating but necessary

Sheryl - I may look for one like that as well b/c I hate extensive clean up and even with the ones you can stick parts of in the dishwasher, i think it would be messy!

TEXASLYNN .... US TOO! We have a small butane grill, a small charcoal grill, and a flat electric grill that we can use on any given day. It keeps the heat out of the kitchen and cooks so much more efficiently and quickly! LOVE IT...... After all, this IS Texas emoticon

Jeanne .... Yes, they sell them just about everywhere, especially at Walmart. They are more expensive but so worth the extra cost!
I quit using mine because of the clean up.... emoticon

Donna .... You are in my prayers today! It hurts so much to shift when you wake up and I get afraid to move because I fear how much it will hurt emoticon

So finally my MD is going to try treating me for hypothyroidism. It's been frustrating, because I have had a lot of the symptoms and my TSH has been high since March but my T4 has stayed within the normal range.Normally your T4 should fall below normal range with hypothyroidism, and they have been kinda waiting for that to happen. But with this last diverticulitis episolde, she thinks maybe we should try to treat it and see what happens. So I am praying it helps with the weight loss too, because I think I am at the height of frustration here. If you are the praying type, please pray it helps make a difference. Would be nice to sleep through a night without waking up because my arms, shoulders or hips hurt and need to be moved to a different position 4-5 times a night, or my forearms hurt from just laying on the bed, so I try to find different ways to prop them up so they don't hurt. emoticon

Debbie - Do you know if they have one that the grills come out like that somewhere? I would love to grill things but I don't want to clean up the grill either! I love things that I can just put in the dishwasher and forget about the hard work to clean them!

I'm treating myself to one of the electric Charbroil grills for outside as my Christmas present. I love to grill but not inside and here in East Texas the weather just generally doesn't get so cold the grill can't be fired up 12 months a year.

Blue Jay, I like the grill now especially with eating ground meat, even though I buy the leanest I can, it sits at an angle and has a drip pan and all the fat runs down as it cooks so the meat doesn't sit in it. Believe me... the diet my doctor has me on, I need all the help I can get!!!! Every drop counts, LOL.

Awwwww sorry Dot....don't ya hate that. Want me to hit him over the head with those Nilla wafers for you????? emoticon I know how you feel, when my sister was home from Chicago, I finally got it sunk into her I am on a low fiber soft foods diet... ground meat, soft meats that does NOT mean crispy bacon on a BLT. I can't even have lettuce yet. So she went to the store and came home with all the "soft" Little Debbie Cakes she could find. Thanks a lot... I keep sending home a box every time my nephews come over...only they are like..we don't like those kind.
Next week they are going to the church food pantry, just wish I had thought of it this morning!!!!

I have everything I need to stay on track, but hubby request a german chocolate dump cake. Ok. I'm talking pecans, coconut, cream cheese, butter, etc. Yes, I had my share and hope it doesn't interfere with my weight loss. I will not begin to tell you all of the things he purchased including 2 boxes of vanilla wafers and every snack that he knows I have problem with. So, my resistance really need to kick in.

Hmmmm George Foreman Grill? What all do you cook on it that you can't cook in a fry pan with a little cooking spray? Maybe I need one!

Because I rested for 3 days....healing left side, eye, etc. my weight is up again. I can't stand this. My commitment to myself is to keep weighing in, every day & not go into unconscious eating.(No matter what) I KNOW I am eating more than I am exercising. More in than out. I AM GETTING A REALITY CHECK! emoticon

Today I get to be 'myself'. Taking care of me & not so focused on DH. His wound Doctor said he can stop the nurses coming to house. I will help him with the newest treatment, cleaning etc. It is not so scary for me! (It's been 8 months to the day!) I'm off to walking LADY LUCY THE WOUNDEROUS CIRCUS DOG, Zumba, & trying to stay on track with salt & calories. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Happy hump day to my favorite teams! emoticon emoticon

Personally I fit right in with the same mental habits you just described for yourself. I also think that it would be a fantastic motivational tool for you AND for me as a team mate for you to share what you learn at your meetings!

Some people find their strength in helping others and that might just be your trigger this time..... I say GO FOR IT and by all means tell us what you learn! emoticon

I am grateful for this challenge and the support I'm getting from the team. Although I've finally made exercise an important part of my lifestyle, I have been struggling mightily with my nutrition. After sweating outrageously at the gym, I would stop at my favorite grocery store for a pint of ice cream and a giant cookie. After eating a nice slimming salad for dinner, I would grab a spoon and consume the entire pint of ice cream and cookie in front of my flat screen. Only the hard work I had put in at the gym kept me from gaining more weight than I did.

When it comes to my eating habits, it is difficult for me to find the intestinal fortitude required to make real changes. I need external motivation, and I found it with this challenge. Since I decided it would be important to be bombarded with positive reinforcement, I signed up for a class being offered by our park district called Building Healthy Habits. There are 15 one hour sessions starting next Tuesday, so, if desired, I can pass on whatever pearls of wisdom I'm able to glean. For me, the big selling point was learning about stopping yoyo dieting. A year ago I joined a gym and started working with a personal trainer twice a week. Along with changes to my eating regimen, I was able to drop 50 pounds. After welcoming all the cookies, candy, ice cream, cake, etc., back into my diet, I gained almost 20 pounds. This is something that has to stop. I'm getting too old for this. I'm 66 and don't want to be a crippled old lady.

For this challenge, I don't want to always be a taker. I want to give support and encouragement. I've managed to change my attitude about exercise, and I hope to do the same with my eating habits. I've been obese almost my entire life, so I've used food as a substitute for love, acceptance, companionship, etc. Food has been my crutch, and, when it's not there, I often get panicky. That's why there will always be a Snickers bar with my name on it. Finding something else to meet that emotional need is part of this challenge, so I'm in it until the end.

It's good to have you back Donna! Glad your sister was there while you were ill! Sorry no one bothered to feed you. I hope you get to 100% real soon!

Getting some new athletic shoes! DH agreed that I need some well cushioned athletic shoes so I ordered a pair in and we shall see how my joints do after that! I have been walking in flip flops and that cannot be good on the joints. I have a pair of sneakers but they are all purpose and not cushioned well at all so I am really looking forward to having that extra little something to pad my steps. Also the shoes I'm getting help you strike the ground with your feet placed the right way. Not on heel, not on toe but in the middle of the foot. I never before knew how much you really need to learn before you purchase a decent pair of athletic shoes!

emoticon I am back among the living LOL. Have had a whopper of a head and chest cold. Luckily on Tuesday I picked my sister up at the airport, she was in from Chicago and she just went back today so I was able to spend a few days in bed just resting between coughing fits, breathing treatments and tylenol doses. Bad thing is I slept ALOT and my family never woke me for any meals and I sure didn't feel like cooking so when I woke up it was kinda just snack on whatever I could find that was quick that fit the diet the MD has me on so I could curl up back under the covers. Doing better today.. No more fevers, just still a cough and doing breathing treatments when I need them, kinda limiting my exercising to short 10-15 min spurts. More than that and I can't really breathe because I am in a coughing fit. But glad to be feeling good enough to be out of bed! emoticon

I suppose I had best just get used to getting up after 4 hours of sleep and having to go back to sleep later on to get the other 4 hours. Since I started SP I have really been trying to get my sleep in all in one shot but my back has other definite ideas about how that is NOT going to work. So I must adapt and learn that I can't re-program my entire life in one fell swoop!
