The power of “I can”
Thought for the Day: “Everything is permissible, but not everything is beneficial.” (1 Corinthians 10:23, see also 6:12)
Reaching my weight loss goal is a precarious place for me. That’s because I find it is a blessing entangled with a curse. The “curse” is the assumption that freedom now means I can return to all those things I’ve given up for the past months. The sacrifices … the missed treats … the deprived taste buds high on salad and low on French fries. I’m tempted to celebrate, live it up, and invite all those foods I’ve missed to a little welcome-home party.
Yet, I can’t fling open the door to all of those missed foods without welcoming back the excess calories, fat grams, cholesterol, sugars, and addictive additives. Most of these guests fall under the category of junk foods. The interesting thing about these guests is that they send out little signals to our brain begging us to party with them again and again. A welcome-home party becomes an invitation to be roommates again, which spells disaster for what we hoped might be a lifestyle change.
A chips-and-chocolate girl like me can find it hard to un-invite certain foods to the party that have been regulars for years. It’s even more difficult to reconcile that they aren’t my friends. Some can be casual acquaintances on a very limited level, but others need to be banished for good. Only you can determine which foods are allowed back, and which are not.
One of my favorite Scriptures in this process is 1 Corinthians 6:12: “Everything is permissible, but not everything is beneficial.” I quote it over and over reminding myself that I could have that brownie, or that cheese dip, but they wouldn’t benefit me in any way. That powerful thought has helped to make a healthy choice, rather than wallowing in being deprived of an unhealthy choice.
So, lest we start mourning what will be lost, we must celebrate all that’s being gained through this process. “I can” instead of “I can’t” is a powerful little twist for a girl feeling deprived. For example:
“I can” helps me walk into a dinner party and find the conversation more appealing than the buffet.
“I can” helps me stay on the perimeter of the grocery store where the fresher, healthier selections abound and smile that I know this tidbit.
“I can” helps me reach for my water bottle and find satisfaction in its refreshment.
“I can” helps me look at the McDonald’s menu and order a fruit tray without even giving a thought to the Happy Meals that used to be snacks.
“I can” reminds me to look up a restaurant’s nutritional information on the Internet before going out, ensuring wiser choices.
“I can” reminds me that no food will ever taste as sweet as lasting victory!

I finished the book a week ago- I just read it straight through to get an idea of it. I didn't really think I had a food problem like Lisa describes, but then I gained weight this week as I ate brownies and cake and cookies and a whole bag of Easter candy I had bought for my kids. I also came to the realization this week that I have some major spiritual issues- I am SUPER underweight spiritually. I don't feel like praying, can't get into scripture study, and overall know I really need some repentance.

So I'm going to challenge myself to start every day with a kneeling prayer- this is a real challenge for me as my day begins with my 2 little ones, and no matter how early and silently I get up, they always seem to wake up with me, or really before me! If my alarm is set for 6:00, they will wake up at 5:30 guaranteed! Anyway, this is my new goal and I hoped by posting it I'd have more accountability for it!

I have always identified my bad eating as sin and still have been unable to turn from it permanently. Dear Lord, only You can set me from my sin. Your instructions are to turn from sin, rebuke satan and follow You. By Your power, through Your Grace and with Your love I am set free indeed. Thank You, my Lord. Amen

Day 16: The “G” word
Thought for the Day: “As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul thirsts for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?” (Psalm 42:1–2)
Have you ever heard a sermon about your eating habits? I doubt it. Excessive drinking, yes. Excessive eating, never. At least I hadn’t until a historic church-going day when the preacher man pulled out the big “G” word: gluttony.
I rolled my eyes, as you have just done, and thought, “How dare you say to me that eating is a sinful desire?” But his point was brilliant and I took it to heart.
How can we stand and wag our fingers in the direction of alcohol only to walk into the church-wide, covered-dish buffet and stuff ourselves sick with fried, covered-and-smothered, grossly caloric delights that buckle our paper plates and cause our stomachs to cry for antacids?
I want you to hear me. I’m not saying that eating is a sinful desire. What I am saying is, if you have a script like this (“I’m fat, I’m ugly, and I’m not capable of getting it together”) playing in your mind, then something is waging war against your soul.
First Peter 2:11 reminds us, “Dear friends, I urge you as aliens and strangers in the world to abstain from sinful desires which wage war against your soul.”
In other words, if something is waging war against your soul, it is a sinful desire. Now please hear me again. Eating in and of itself is not a sinful desire. God made us to consume food, but food was never supposed to consume us. And if food starts consuming us to the point where we cannot feel empowered, then that is a problem.
I imagine at this point you are wondering if we really need to go there with this gluttony thing. It’s not exactly the most girlfriend-friendly topic that makes you want to say, “Preach on, sister. I’m loving this encouragement!”
When we rely on over-stuffing ourselves with food, drinking until we get drunk, or conducting an adulterous relationship, we are revealing a desperate attempt to silence the cries of a hungry soul.
Our souls have the same ravenous intensity as a vacuum cleaner; that’s how God created us — with a longing to be filled. It is a longing God instilled to draw us into deep intimacy with Him. The psalmist expresses this longing as an intense thirst:
As the deer pants for steams of water, so my soul thirsts for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?
Indeed, our souls are thirsty and ravenous vacuums. If we fail to fill our souls with spiritual nourishment, we will forever be triggered to numb our longings with other temporary physical pleasures that will never satisfy.

More words of wisdom from Made to Crave
Thought for the Day: Just because a woman is skinny doesn’t mean that she’s healthy. The struggles are similar, just in a different size package.
One problem with trying to eat healthy is when you sit down next to a skinny girl who wolfs down everything on her plate. It makes me want to say, “I’ll have what she’s having.” A similar frustration pops up when Ms. Petite picks up her kids in a cute tennis outfit that I could never wear.
The paradox of comparing ourselves to other people is that we become blind to what we already have in the face of what we don’t have. Our hearts are drawn into a place of assumption. We assume that everything is great for those who possess what we lack.
But here’s the kicker. Everyone has not-so-great aspects their lives, things that they will have to learn to surrender or sacrifice. Sure, my size-two friend could eat all the snacks she wanted, but she’s got other struggles for which she has to depend on God. For instance, consider that skinny girl in your life who eats whatever she wants and makes you think, “How unfair.” Yet listen to what she might say in return, as someone once shared with me: “I am one of the skinny girls, but don’t mistake skinny for healthy. I battle depression, self-esteem issues, and verbal abuse. The list seems endless. Being little doesn’t make a person any more happy or faithful or joyful. The struggles are similar, just in a different size package.”
Life as a Christ follower will always be a learning process of depending less on our own strength and more on God’s power. James 1:3-4 says,
The testing of your faith develops perseverance, and perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature, complete, not lacking anything.
Why not make this a daily prayer, first thing in the morning: “God, I recognize that I am made for more than the vicious cycle of being ruled by food, body image, and comparing myself to others. I am thankful that You made my body unique in ways that I can serve You and in ways that turn my reliance upon You. I need to eat to live, not live to eat. So I keep asking for Your wisdom to know what to eat and Your indwelling power to walk away from things and thoughts that are not beneficial for me.”
Oh sweet sisters, this truth should be the cry of our souls and drown out Satan’s lie that “she has it easier.” Our taste buds crave many things to satisfy, but only persevering with God will make us truly full.

Day 13: The tower of impossibility
Thought for the Day: “Know also that wisdom is sweet to your soul; if you find it, there is a future hope for you, and your hope will not be cut off.” (Proverbs 24:14)
Standing before a decadent dessert table piled high like a tempting tower was a daunting task. I was glowing with the first flush of success with my healthy eating plan, but now I found myself at the blow-out wedding of the season. A mere wedding cake was not enough panache for this soiree. Instead, a full buffet of chocolate truffles accompanied the groom’s cake. It was beautiful. And I wanted one of each flavor!
Previously, when I faced the calorie-overload opportunities so common in our culture, I felt overwhelmed and defeated. The tower of truffles seemed like a tower of impossibility. But this time my perspective was different. I had experienced a shift and tasted a new style of hope.
The particular healthy-eating plan that I had chosen was full of wisdom about the realities of food’s interaction with my body. In addition, I had put some healthy boundaries in place, surrounded myself with a like-minded friend, and replaced old lies in my mind with new truths. This new foundation began to slowly build, one day at a time. Healthy choices piled on top of each other day after day. Then, one day I woke up for the first time feeling incredibly empowered. I still did the typical routine with the scale–no clothes and no ponytail holder. My body was slowly changing because I had lost some weight. But the most thrilling feeling was knowing that my heart was changing.
Hope over despair tasted better than any food I’d ever given up. I had sought God’s perspective using prayer, boundaries, and His fulfillment as my source. I realized nothing was worth compromising the path of victory I was on — not even the tower of truffles!
I paved my victory path by imagining every good choice I made was like settling another brick into place: bricks of prayer, wise choices, closeness to God, closeness to others, confidence, energy, and focus. Each and every time I conquered a temptation by making a healthy choice, I became stronger and stronger. And, brick by brick, prayer by prayer, good choice by good choice, my hope soared. I’m making positive physical changes, but even more importantly, I’m making wise spiritual changes. As Proverbs 24:14 reminds me, walking in spiritual wisdom secures my hope that this healthy journey will not end in defeat:
Know also that wisdom is sweet to your soul; if you find it, there is a future hope for you, and your hope will not be cut off.
As you face similar temptations, I can’t promise that there won’t be any more tears. There will be. And I can’t promise that sweets will no longer appeal to you. They may. I can’t even promise that the number on the scale will magically drop as quickly as you wish. It probably won’t. But gaining spiritual wisdom along the way will set your feet on a sure path of victory. Press on, my friend!

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you dealing with the wild winter weather. It is this time of year I am reminded of the blessings of living in Florida. During the hot, humid and mosquito filled months sometimes I forget.
Spring will arrive for all of you soon enough just as our Savior rose from the dead and life will once again spring eternal.
Have a Jesus filled Sunday. Thank you God our father for sending Your only begotten Son to save us and for the Holy Spirit who guides us and comforts us. Thank You also for the angels who watch over us lest we dash our feet upon a stone. You and You alone are our God the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. El-Shaddai, Yahweh, Elohim, Jehovah. Amen.

Question: "What are the different names of God?
Each of the many names of God describes a different aspect of His many-faceted character. Here are some of the better-known names of God in the Bible:

EL, ELOAH: God "mighty, strong, prominent" (Genesis 7:1; Isaiah 9:6) – etymologically, El appears to mean “power,” as in “I have the power to harm you” (Genesis 31:29). El is associated with other qualities, such as integrity (Numbers 23:19), jealousy (Deuteronomy 5:9), and compassion (Nehemiah 9:31), but the root idea of might remains.

ELOHIM: God “Creator, Mighty and Strong” (Genesis 17:7; Jeremiah 31:33) – the plural form of Eloah, which accommodates the doctrine of the Trinity. From the Bible’s first sentence, the superlative nature of God’s power is evident as God (Elohim) speaks the world into existence (Genesis 1:1).

EL SHADDAI: “God Almighty,” “The Mighty One of Jacob” (Genesis 49:24; Psalm 132:2,5) – speaks to God’s ultimate power over all.

ADONAI: “Lord” (Genesis 15:2; Judges 6:15) – used in place of YHWH, which was thought by the Jews to be too sacred to be uttered by sinful men. In the Old Testament, YHWH is more often used in God’s dealings with His people, while Adonai is used more when He deals with the Gentiles.

YHWH / YAHWEH / JEHOVAH: “LORD” (Deuteronomy 6:4; Daniel 9:14) – strictly speaking, the only proper name for God. Translated in English Bibles “LORD” (all capitals) to distinguish it from Adonai, “Lord.” The revelation of the name is first given to Moses “I Am who I Am” (Exodus 3:14). This name specifies an immediacy, a presence. Yahweh is present, accessible, near to those who call on Him for deliverance (Psalm 107:13), forgiveness (Psalm 25:11) and guidance (Psalm 31:3).

YAHWEH-JIREH: "The Lord Will Provide" (Genesis 22:14) – the name memorialized by Abraham when God provided the ram to be sacrificed in place of Isaac.

YAHWEH-RAPHA: "The Lord Who Heals" (Exodus 15:26) – “I am Jehovah who heals you” both in body and soul. In body, by preserving from and curing diseases, and in soul, by pardoning iniquities.

YAHWEH-NISSI: "The Lord Our Banner" (Exodus 17:15), where banner is understood to be a rallying place. This name commemorates the desert victory over the Amalekites in Exodus 17.

YAHWEH-M'KADDESH: "The Lord Who Sanctifies, Makes Holy" (Leviticus 20:8; Ezekiel 37:28) – God makes it clear that He alone, not the law, can cleanse His people and make them holy.

YAHWEH-SHALOM: "The Lord Our Peace" (Judges 6:24) – the name given by Gideon to the altar he built after the Angel of the Lord assured him he would not die as he thought he would after seeing Him.

YAHWEH-ELOHIM: "LORD God" (Genesis 2:4; Psalm 59:5) – a combination of God’s unique name YHWH and the generic “Lord,” signifying that He is the Lord of Lords.

YAHWEH-TSIDKENU: "The Lord Our Righteousness” (Jeremiah 33:16) – As with YHWH-M’Kaddesh, it is God alone who provides righteousness to man, ultimately in the person of His Son, Jesus Christ, who became sin for us “that we might become the Righteousness of God in Him” (2 Corinthians 5:21).

YAHWEH-ROHI: "The Lord Our Shepherd" (Psalm 23:1) – After David pondered his relationship as a shepherd to his sheep, he realized that was exactly the relationship God had with him, and so he declares, “Yahweh-Rohi is my Shepherd. I shall not want” (Psalm 23:1).

YAHWEH-SHAMMAH: "The Lord Is There” (Ezekiel 48:35) – the name ascribed to Jerusalem and the Temple there, indicating that the once-departed glory of the Lord (Ezekiel 8—11) had returned (Ezekiel 44:1-4).

YAHWEH-SABAOTH: "The Lord of Hosts" (Isaiah 1:24; Psalm 46:7) – Hosts means “hordes,” both of angels and of men. He is Lord of the host of heaven and of the inhabitants of the earth, of Jews and Gentiles, of rich and poor, master and slave. The name is expressive of the majesty, power, and authority of God and shows that He is able to accomplish what He determines to do.

EL ELYON: “Most High" (Deuteronomy 26:19) – derived from the Hebrew root for “go up” or “ascend,” so the implication is of that which is the very highest. El Elyon denotes exaltation and speaks of absolute right to lordship.

EL ROI: "God of Seeing" (Genesis 16:13) – the name ascribed to God by Hagar, alone and desperate in the wilderness after being driven out by Sarah (Genesis 16:1-14). When Hagar met the Angel of the Lord, she realized she had seen God Himself in a theophany. She also realized that El Roi saw her in her distress and testified that He is a God who lives and sees all.

EL-OLAM: "Everlasting God" (Psalm 90:1-3) – God’s nature is without beginning or end, free from all constraints of time, and He contains within Himself the very cause of time itself. “From everlasting to everlasting, You are God.”

EL-GIBHOR: “Mighty God” (Isaiah 9:6) – the name describing the Messiah, Christ Jesus, in this prophetic portion of Isaiah. As a powerful and mighty warrior, the Messiah, the Mighty God, will accomplish the destruction of God’s enemies and rule with a rod of iron (Revelation 19:15).

Been reading the book and just can't put it down! I've had to slow myself down to reading one chapter at a time and I've already decided I'll go back and read it a 2nd time when I'm done with it.

It's cold here, still have ice all over the trees and some people without electricity. But hopefully it will warm up again soon. Still calling for ice next week, am praying it won't be as bad as this week's ice storm.

It is freezing outside but thank the Lord that I have warmth and protection from the elements in my warm cozy house and car.

I like the that we can choose to serve God instead of Satan whose temptations we can resist by the empowerment of Jesus.

Thought for the Day: Are your cravings a curse or a blessing? The answer to that question depends on what you’re craving, because what we’re craving will always depend on whatever we’re consuming. Is it the object of our desire, or God and His truth?
A well-known weight loss company recently ran a television ad about a little orange monster chasing a woman throughout her day, tempting her with foods that obviously weren’t part of her healthy eating plan. This ad perfectly captures what it feels like to be harassed by cravings all day long. It’s a scenario that has defined the greater part of my adult life.
I believe God made us to crave. Now, before you think this is some sort of cruel joke by God, let me assure you that the object of our craving was never supposed to be food, sex, money, or chasing after significance.
Think of Eve’s temptation in the garden of Eden. While the object that enticed her might have been an apple, the core of her struggle was that she wanted to be like God, knowing good and evil. The very downfall of humanity was caused when the first woman surrendered to a craving to eat something she wasn’t supposed to eat, and to pursue a power that she was never intended to wield. But it doesn’t stop there. Look at how Jesus was tempted in Matthew 4:
After fasting forty days and forty nights . . . Satan came to Jesus and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.” Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’ ” (vv. 2 – 4)
Satan tried to appeal to Jesus’ physical craving for food. But here’s the significant difference between Eve and Jesus. Eve was saturated in the object of her desire. Jesus was saturated in God’s truth. Jesus had been in a desert fasting for forty days. But He held strong and set a powerful example of how to escape the vicious grip of temptation. When we feel deprived and consumed with wanting unhealthy choices, we too can rely on the truth of God’s Word to help us.
With each of Satan’s temptations, Jesus quoted Scripture without hesitation to refute that temptation. Truth is powerful. The more saturated we are with truth, the more powerful we’ll be in resisting our temptations. And the more we’ll naturally direct our cravings where they should be directed — to the Author of all truth.
As we read in Matthew 4:8 – 10:
[T]he devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.” Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’ “

In life, we all have ups and downs. This time of year can be especially trying for some. There are seasons that are more difficult when our character is being developed and our faith in God is being strengthened. Sometimes it can feel like you are taking two steps forward and three steps backward. If we’re not careful, we’ll start thinking that life is always going to be this way.

God doesn’t want us to live life like a roller coaster. He wants to bring us to a place of stability so we can remain strong in Him. Jesus said, “I am the vine. You are the branches. If you abide in me, you will bear much fruit and your fruit will remain.” The word “remain” means “to be fixed, immovable, not affected by circumstances.” In other words, if you will just keep abiding in Him, just keep meditating on His Word, He’ll bring you through. He’ll make you strong; He’ll keep you stable, and you’ll embrace the life of blessing He has prepared for you!

I finished chapter 4. I like how the chapters are short, can focus on the subject matter and really take it to heart. I also like Lysa's personal reflection questions.

Here in NH the flowers are starting to bloom, I went for a run on Monday- felt great!

Hi BobbyJune! I was also doing the devotionals on you version. Hang in there. 2 steps forward, one step back is the truth!

I've joined the online bible study, Made to Crave, by Proverbs 31 Ministries. It starts Sunday, the 19th. It's free, you just have to sign up for the emails and links to the videos. And, of course, you need the book. I got mine on kindle for $5.

I see this team is not very active, would you consider joining me in this study? From what I understand, assignments are put up on Sundays and we complete them on our own timeframe during the week.

Summer tends to be an easier time of year for me to make healthy choices. -- It is in the rainy, dark, dreary days of winter that I struggle with nutrition and thinking before eating. This is where the "God part" is going to have to get me through. This is my biggest tripping point.

I'm just sticking my nose in here to say "hi". We have a blueberry farm, so summer is a CRAZY time of year. (It has its own varied routine!) -- Anyway, I've been working on functional fitness so that I don't feel bad about not staying in my typical exercise routine.

...sometimes you just do what you can and make the best of it.
And God has been teaching me some new ways of looking at things. I've been thinking it through and looking for ways to make long-term application.

The book has helped me tremendously. I NEVER in a million years thought I would be where I am at now. And by that I mean emotionally and spiritually. The book has been the launching pad for a much deeper relationship with God for me. I realized how I used food to fill so many voids in my life and I now am truly enjoying saying NO to the junk food and instead taking all of my needs to the Lord. This has been a long journey for me but I am so glad God lead me down it.

I have the book and the study that goes with it. It is well worth it so far. I haven't lost any weight but that is my fault. I too, struggle with replacing God with food. I haven't started the 21 day challenge. Partly because I don't have anyone to do it with me. It has so far made realize God is part of this journey and He wants me to succeeded.

Hi All. I had never heard of this book until about a week ago. I didn't purchase it yet, but I did sign up for the 21 day challenge and I am receiving inspirational emails. So, my first thought was I bet someone on spark has heard of it and quite possibly started a sparkteam. And I was correct. Just wondering if anyone is seeing progress with the book? I was thinking of getting it, but wanted some opinions on how everyone likes it? I have prayed for a long time for God to help me with this weight loss; asking him to take away my cravings; to help me say NO to the destructive foods; to take me out of tempting situations, but I guess I also need to do my part in this whole process, which I haven't done such a good job at. I do rely more on food than I do with God, and I'm not sure why because I rely on Him for everything else - so why not my food?! Would like to hear from others who are finding help from the book. Thanks so much.

I have so many Bible studies going, that I haven't had time to do the book. but the other day, I just listened to the video.. Well, can't remember which one it was, but her motto was, "Food does not taste as good as peace feels." It really touched me because I have had so much frustration over the SLOW weight loss.... ever since the first of the year! only 4 pounds in January was very discouraging. Anyway, she give good stuff. Hang in there with the study!

What stood out to me about chapter two was, when Lysa shared how it was not a battle with the scale or even what size clothes we wear, but it is a heart issue. I never really thought of it like that. I know the Bible teaches that out of the heart flow the issues of life, but I had not thought of cravings as being a matter of the heart. Se had shared ," i thought about, craved and arranged my life too much around food." ( p.28)
I had not thought of food cravings in this way . I can relate how food had become a tool I have used for comfort and through Lysa, I was able to acknowledge that it was also a tool to reward myself.
What she shared about Israel ans their battle with cravings caused my heart to say ouch.
"They willfully put God to the test by demanding the food they craved.'' ( Psalm 78:18)

This scripture opened up to me a wisdom I had not seen before. From this I cried out," Lord, please forgive me for the times when I have turned to food rather than you. Forgive me for putting you to the test when I knew what I was about to eat was unhealthy and yet, I consumed it.
I thank God for using the ook Made To Crve, to reveal this truth to me so I can be aware of this behavior, repent from it and thus experience the healing of Jesus, my precious savior.

I like Chapter two as it kind of help me apply myself to the season of Lent. To put God in control. Rely on Him.
I like how she says" I'm choosing to pray instead of getting stuck in my cravings" This has helped me a lot this past week.

Hello, I am new to the study, but I have been reading the book along with the group. I have only gotten to chapter 2. I have been trying to read it slow so that I can glean the wisdom Lysa shares with her readers.
On page 19 of the book, she had mentioned how we have a tendency to eat foods that are not a part of our eating plan. I admit, I find myself doing this many times. I have just set a new goal of how to address this bad habit of mine so that I can overcome cravings. My goal is to write down the food clue and tell myself I can eat this at another time.
I admit I have prayed many times and been honest with God about my need to overcome cravings, but there are days may best intentions are good, but I stumble and do what I did not want to do.

Lysa spoke in the beginning chapter about how convenient unhealthy choices can be. As I reflected on this, I thought of the time of preparation. Preparation, takes time and this can be overwhelming, but there are some tricks that can be done to make the process run smoother. I have read how people will set aside left overs in marked serving dishes to be used at another time as a meal. This saves time, but also money. Some have even suggested cutting up vegetables in advance, put them in freezer bags and have stored away and ready for use when needed. My goal is to put this to play in my life so I can be better prepared to face the challenge of cravings that coem when hungry.

I look forward to reading insight others have gleaned along the way.

Had a great day - my daughter competed in her first Awana games and her team came in first! She was so excited! I took her out to lunch afterwards. It was delicious - and neither of us ate anything for dinner - we were both still full!

Hi y'all.....I did not fall off the face of the earth.....really and truly.......I have been AWOL from most of my teams due to time constraints, but I really miss the camaraderie. So I am going to try to remedy that. So many great teams, so little time!!!!

I have to re-download my Made to Crave book, since I had it on my iPhone. For some reason I can't get past chapter 7. So, I'll try it again.

Missed y'all, and the book, but here I come again!!

spent the weekend at a prayer conference, so not much time with Made to Crave, but a lot of time focusing on HIM and developing specific prayers... Amazing food, but I chose well and came home stable (no gain)... will continue doing the right things and leave the results to the LORD!

Deborah - I am also guilty of trying many different things and not always sticking to them. I'm beginning to see it is because God has a plan for me and those other things are not what He has planned for me. I'm truly believing that the more I focus on Him and saturate myself in His truth the more successful I will be on my journey to a healthier me and most importantly, a closer relationship with Him.

I'm enjoying the 60 Day devotional a lot. Some of it is stuff from the book, and some of it is new stuff - but either way, it's a small dose of encouragement for the day!

I was at Barnes & Noble the other day and they had Made to Crave, the Made to Crave Devotional, AND the Made to Crave Action Plan DVD/Guide. I gave a little cheer when I saw that. The Action Plan was shrinkwrapped, so I couldn't take a peek. I am so curious to see what's in there, but not willing or able to plunk down $30 for it.

I keep finding myself having moments where I want to pick up a diet book. It's such a habit, something I always did: I'd read a new book, get excited about it, think about trying it out, make a half-hearted attempt, and then return the book (or donate it if I had actually purchased it). God has to constantly remind me to rest in Him and use the tools I already have.

Anxiously awaiting my "supplies" I think this will be a great team... Looking forward to winning with Jesus!

Well, went to the mailbox and there was my package. I got the "whole works" Just finished listening to video #1 and now need to go to the book....

I think this will be good, I need to fill my mind with Christ, and HIS thinking rather than what food can I find to eat!!

Just saw a picture of me about 60 pounds lighter (in 2001) -- I put it right in the middle of the top of my refrig so I can see where I'm going..... yup, I'm going to get there again and this time STAY THERE!

I am trying to get some reading in before Sunday so I don't get behind. I have the participant's guide and borrowed the DVD from a friend. I have just received the devotional (yeah!) and am anxiously awaiting the Action plan guide and DVD bundle. Really excited to begin and that Spark has a team for us!!!

I've only got one more chapter to read! I'm going to finish tomorrow and then I get to start over with the online Bible Study that's starting on Sunday. If you haven't gotten to the end of the book, let me just say that the teachings get deeper and more meaningful - and at the same time, more challenging. I'm thankful that God is using this book to change my life and the lives of so many other people.

You know how when you start a diet or exercise program you always tell yourself, "This time it will be different"... and then it isn't different? You end up in the same place doing the same things, only now you feel like a big failure because you've let yourself down again? Well the other day I found myself thinking, "Wow, it really does feel different this time." It's like I'm more hopeful, yet at the same time, I'm also more realistic and accepting of how much work it is going to take to lose more than 150 pounds.

Oh no... oh dear... I've lost my Made to Crave book. I had it last night at dd1's karate class - I was reading and making notes in it...I put it down when I finished a chapter and watched the class... and I can't remember bringing it home. It's not here... UGHHHHHH

I was on like chapter 15, only a few more to go... I'm so mad at myself. I'll have to go by the building tomorrow - it's a community building used for so many things. I hope it's there.

I'm in shock. On a side note, my 60 Day Devotional arrived. I wasn't planning on starting that until I finished the book though. Wow.

Update: I went by the building and they had found my book and put it aside! Hooray!

I'm really having a wonderful day. God had a very clear message for me today, reaffirming that I am on the right path and that all this hard work is going to pay off - not just weight lost, but spiritual blessings.

I felt so much at peace after service that I was able to look right at the thick, chewy, homemade chocolate chip cookies that someone brought - and I didn't even want it. I felt so full of God's love that the cookie seemed like a poor substitute!

I know I'm not going to feel that way every day, or every time a rogue cookie appears - but for today, it was a wonderful feeling.

I know for me it is an attention span thing...there are times that I just plain FORGET what I am supposed to be doing.

But - if I have a plan (weekends are the WORST), then I do much much better. By the end of the week I am tired, don't want to think about food choices, my dh gets home later than what I'd like...so Pizza here we come!! Or Chinese buffet - or mexican food.....

It's amazing how you change from one day to another. Yesterday I was motivated and on fire. Today I'm just dragging... but I did exercise and I'm keeping my log.

Today I ate about 10 calories less than my max allowed. Had to restart my food tracking when I swapped from the healthy lifestyle to the weightloss plan, but I'm happy with my new calorie allowance. I can eat well with that. And include the occasional treat some days. Having a buddy really helps.

Today, I've done pretty good. I was asked if I wanted to grab lunch, and politely said no thanks. Eating out during the day is one of my BIG issues. I tend to not only over eat, but over spend as well. Still have to get through dinner and the rest of the evening without snacking too much, but I'm off to a great start today!

DSW310 - It's a big step to go ahead and track your food, even though you know you over did it. You have to own up to when you mess up, and then use that as an opportunity to surrender it all to God. I haven't gotten the devotional, but I'm going to get the study guide this weekend. My church is do a group study of Made to Crave! I can't wait for us to start later this month!

Today was not a good day for food tracking. Oh I tracked it, but I was a good 400 calories over where my range ends. This is part of the accountability, because in the past I would have just not tracked it and promised to start over tomorrow.

I just ordered the Made to Crave 60 Day Devotional!! I'm excited. I'm almost finished reading the book and look forward to have daily readings to keep me focused.
