I write articles and poetry. I probably write 5-8 poems a week. Have a new book to be released in a couple of months, and do freelance writing. This is my last career, and I love it.

As for reading, I love to read poetry, not slam or new wave poetry of the younger set. Emily Dickinson is my favorite female poet. Other reading material would have to be murder mysteries. Love the who done it type. Enjoy self-help type of books, art and gardening.

I read thrillers, mysteries and romance. Just about the only thing I don't read is Science Fiction and Fantasy.

As to writing, at the moment I'm working on a thriller, although I make my living writing non-fiction for various clients.

POPEYETHETURTLE:

You didn't mention the poetry of Poe, like "The Raven". That seems like it would fit with some of your other interests. And besides Psalms, the Song of Solomon is beautiful. I do prefer old poets to new poets.

I started SP at 138 lbs in October 2010. My goal weight was supposed to be 125, which I reached on January 17, 2011. I have stayed at 125 (give or take a few pounds) ever since.

What do I not read is the better question. There is nothing I will not read.

However, with the exception of Rudyard Kipling, the Psalms and a bit of Shakespear, poetry holds little interest. The same goes for most biographies. I go to great lengths to not read anything a technical writer has written. I will read Psychological Horror (think "Silence of the Lambs"), but don't seek it out. I try not to read smut, but some writers disguise their works very well.

My favorite reads are speculative fiction, scifi, fantasy, westerns and historical novels. I read one Romance author - Nora Roberts, mostly because her story telling skills are so well honed.

I have written technical manuals for different industries that are still in use. I'm now working on a small novelette and an 80,000 word book (+/-).

Which characters in the Bible have you found psychologically interesting? I have often wondered what it did to Isaac when he realized his father was about to kill him. I've also been curious about the relationship between Abraham and Sarah. First he'd rather let someone else sleep with her than risk his own life. Then he does everything she says including taking a concubine, allowing Sarah to abuse her, and finally sending Hagar into the wilderness with only a little bread and water.

I am definately going to pick your brain about books, Myrealana, when I can figure out where the library is in this town, and how many of my organs I have to offer to get a card (seriously, I once got my license and a library card on the same day, and it took more information to get my card. It was ridiculas). It looks as though we have quite a bit of the same tastes there.

As for my own -writing-? I've been through Such a variety of genres since I started. I keep finding myself going back to Sci-fi and "Horror" however, all with Romance twists (Think Black Dagger Brotherhood for those who have read it... and those who haven't, you should get on that!)
I have a story in my head Ive been meaning to write for a Very long time. My boyfriend and I have been writing it verbally over the past year, but putting everything into a format people besides us can understand will be the tricky part.
It doesnt hurt that the themes are fairly risque at best, so I keep wondering if the backlash is worth finally pulling it out of my head like pulling out a Pensieve in Harry Potter. Le Sigh!

I write speculative fiction from flash to novel length. Mostly fantasy and scifi, occasionally with horror elements, but horror is not my specialty.

I haven't published a book yet, just short fiction. Science Fiction and Fantasy, mostly in small press that either doesn't pay, or token payment. I've had one professionally published story in Daily Science Fiction.

I read anything. Urban Fantasy (Dresden Files, Sookie Stackhouse, Mario Acevedo), YA (John Green, Suzanne Collins, Jay Asher), Fantasy (George RR Martin, David Eddings), Romance (Jayne Ann Krentz, Julie Garwood), Non-fiction (Malcolm Gladwell, Michael Lewis, Mary Roach), Science Fiction (Asimov, Heinlein, John Scalzi), Crime novels (Kathy Reichs, John Grisham), Cozy mysteries (Diane Mott Davidson, Rita Mae Brown), Comic books (Injustice: Gods Among Us, Green Lantern).

Just about anything. I do usually draw the line at biographies. Those tend to read more like schoolwork than fun reading.

I write poetry, and I love to write poetry. I post a poem on my SparkPage at least 6-days a week. I write something every day. If I am not writing, I'm editing, creating images for my poetry, and engaged in several poetry groups.

I didn't start writing until my husband passed away 6-years ago from cancer, and I was asked to write and submit several poems for an Anthology for Cancer being published by GWL Publishing, and it has spurred me on to a new and final career of writing poetry. Unlocking the emotional poet in my and expressing my feelings, emotions and thoughts through poetry.

I write Fantasy in some form. Heavily character-centered, and both main characters and plot is often sparked by Biblical figures and/or stories. (sometimes other mythologies get a chance as well). I then build my own world around it, making it less obvious where the ideas came from.

Reading ... I tend to lean religious, historical and fantasy, but really anything goes. Preferably not hard-bolied mystery, though.

The best way I can describe my current projects is Biblical psychological drama.

I didn't set out with this in mind, but in exploring some Biblical narratives I found complex, shocking, and fairly instructive human drama at play. Since examining the characters proved so fascinating and informative for me, I thought I should share with others.

Previously I've only been a secondary author on a few scientific journal articles.

I write novels and poetry. My current novel is in print and on Kindle Amazon.
It is titled: The Violet Shawl and is selling well.

Check it out on Amazon.

Presently I am finishing a 600 page saga that is divided into two novels. It should be on Amazon this fall.

Any comments, appreciated.

Doris
