Hello SP Class of July 10-16! HELP!! I'm loosing focus, and, like a previous poster mentioned... a box of cookies on the couch is looking mighty good right now! (For me it is ice cream).

I have to work (like most people), and have found that I can eat right, exercise, keep up the house, yard work, etc., but I have gone back to school too, and I can't balance this anymore. I'm falling off. I'm doing okay with the food, but the exercise has gone to the wayside. I have found that if I eat sugar, even if I stay within the calorie range, I don't loose weight. Well, guess what calls my name when I get stressed out. GGgggrr....

I am packing my breakfast, lunch & dinner when I leave the house in the morning, so I'm still pretty controlled there, until I get home exhausted and I "reward" myself with a bowl of ice cream for making it through another day. I feel like such a looser. I tell myself not to buy the ice cream! But then the financial budgeting side of me says, "It is cheaper to buy the ice cream at the grocery store than to get one a the local DQ down the street". I need to get over the ice cream hurdle that is sabotaging me!!

A "yeah" for me is that I park in one of the furthest parking places for classes, and walk 3 buildings over to get to class. So... I am getting some cardio (more so when I'm running late! LOL!)

Hi everyone, my three goals I'm tracking each day are to exercise 10 minutes, not eat in front of the TV, and give myself a pep talk (the last is something I am NOT used to!). And I have one extra goal--to get at least 3 serious cardio workouts each week.

Hello Everyone!
Thanks for sharing. Reading your posts convinced me to post. I started last Tuesday. My weigh in day is on Wed so we'll see.

My goals include -
Tracking food therefore helping me to be more mindful in what and how much I eat
Make healthy choices but to eat whatever in moderation - training my brain
Think about WHY I eat - gaining control of emotional eating
Water, Water, Water
Exercise in moderation starting slowly so I don't quit!
Use SparkPeople as a weightloss tool - stick to a plan

Great goals, everyone! Here's one more you might think about: Be good to yourself. If you have an off day or an off week, don't beat yourself up over it. Being good to yourself also means doing your best to stick to your goals, because you DESERVE to be healthy, feel good, and look good! 1. Don't give up

in the past I would get overwhelmed with tracking, drinking water, exercising etc. I would end up retreating to the sofa with a box of cookies.

Goals Daily

1. Eat Breakfast!
2. Drink more water
3. Go to gym regularly! Aerobic at least an hour 5x a week, weight training 3x a week.
4. Think positive. Surround myself with positive energy pushing out the negative influences.
5. Reduce sugar and bad carb intake.
6.Create weekly meal plans and stick to them.
7. Work with a highly motivated buddy.

Hi everyone, I'm Kathryn and my first step goals are:

1: drink 8 glasses of water/squash a day
2: track everything I eat even if I'm ashamed of it
3: exercise for ten minutes a day every day but add 5 minutes every week.

I've started this so many times this time I have to learn to be patient and that it will take time to lose the weight, and if I run in full tilt I will never sustain it, so baby steps!

Hello team. I'm Dana and I've been tracking 5 days now. My goals are to

1. Continue tracking everyday. I went to an all day seminar today and had no choice over food options but was still able to stay within my calorie zone for the day without depriving myself.

2. Drink water, drink water, drink water.

3. Cardio exercise at least 4x per week and weight training 2x per week.

4. Finish reading "The Spark".

5. Being more active on the forums.

Hello! I'm Sally. I have about 40 pounds to lose, and I've been looking for help with it for a long time. I am really, really glad to have found SparkPeople!

My starting strategies:

Track, track, track! Food and fitness.

Drink, drink, drink--water, that is.

Move it! I'm trying to walk 10,000 steps per day, and I'm working out 6 days a week, alternating cardio and strength.

One big decision I have made is to give myself time. I usually try to rush into losing weight and end up disappointed when it doesn't come off fast enough or when the losing comes to a stop, then I gain all of it back and usually a little bit more. My goal is to lose 45 - 50 pounds over the next year. I want to wear a bikini on the lake next year on the Fourth of July. I decided that I would start slow with the Couch to 5K program. I just finished the 1st of 9 weeks yesterday. I am pretty out of shape so it may take me longer than nine weeks but I am determined to complete it. The first week wasn't so bad. I just stumbled on this site when I was reading an email about stretches for runners. I decided to join and begin tracking my food intake and my exercise, Tracking the food definitely will make you more aware of where you can improve your eating habits, but my main focus for this first nine weeks is the Couch to 5K program. I hope to incorporate some strength training too, but I don't want to put too many new habits on my plate at once because when I try that I usually fail at them all. Good luck to everyone out there!

As a repeat-offender I clearly need some help,so my first goal is to follow what SP tells me to do! Sounds kinda silly but I figure if I just follow the fitness plan, read the articles and track all of my food (if you bite it, write it!) this will go a lot smoother than if I try it on my own...again

HI everyone- My first goal is to get my eating under control. I am going to do this by tracking my food ( its amazing to find out how much I was actually eating before!!); and to limit sweets. ( which is super hard b/c I am seriously addicted to sweets) So far, its been hard but I am making progress.

1. writing down everything I eat and drink

1) Eight or more 8oz servings of water/flavored calorie free water a day. Yeah, should probably all be plain but I can't handle that much plain water.

2) Be more persistent in tracking.

3)Be active at least 35 minutes daily.

Long term goal: lose 150 lbs.
Medium goal: lose 75 lbs

My starting out goals are to:

1) stop using the elevator at work - to use the stairs each and every trip UP and down!
2) be active at least 30 minutes a day - active wii games, walking, swimming...anything that gets my heart rate up
3) track everything I eat...this one will be a little hard to get used to but I think I will do fine once I do it for a while. I'm hoping it just becomes habit after a month or so.

Always write down what you eat, even if you aren't being real "good" one day and don't use the Sparkpeople tracker or another tracking system. Just by writing down your food, even in generalities, you are building up your habit of tracking. The best thing about tracking is when the weight comes off, you have a record of how you made it happen!

My first set of goals is to keep track of EVERYTHING i eat...i have a bad habit of leaving things out...talk about keeping myself in denial. I want to try to do atleast 30 mins of 6 days a week, between my routine i have and what i like to do on my wii fit. that is easily obtainable....if. and only if i stop myself from being lazy, give myself a good swift kick, and get up and do it.

I have a lot of trouble sticking with tracking, but it really does help. Walking dogs comes much more naturally to me! Isn't it fun to always have someone so excited to go on a walk with you?

I have 2 dogs who are always willing to go on a walk. So my first goal is to walk them every day. I also have a habit of starting to track what I eat each day and then as the week goes by less and less is tracked. My second goal will be to write down everything for 2 weeks. Hopefully that will get me headed in the right direction. This is day one and so far, so good.

When starting out on your weight loss journey, one of the first steps is to set an obtainable goal that can be measured. A good place to start is to ramp up your activity level and to pay more attention to what you eat. For example, a good goal might be to walk 10 minutes each day the first week, 15 minutes the second week, 20 minutes the 3rd week, and on. What are some of your first step goals?
