It wasn't today, but not that long ago I realized that I could customize my goals in the "Other Goals" section. I went through and added a bunch of my specific goals, including some related to housekeeping and schoolwork. I also removed goals that I had on there that weren't really *my* goals, I just added them because I thought I should. Now every goal on my list is something I really want to accomplish, and I feel great when I can check them off!

I just found out that there is a tremendous program for people with Diabetes Type 2 on this site. It has free meal plans, health tips, tracking guidelines, and so much more. I am so excited to get started! emoticon

I just learned that I can jump directly to my teams by a drop down bar on my Start page! I've been using my points page as a home base, but took some time to figure out the Start page today! Hmmm. Helpful! :-)

I read an article about working out in the gym. They say that staying in the fat burning zone isn't all that it is cracked up to be. We should go for the aerobic levels because you do in fact end up burning more fat. You burn some muscle which is why they tell us to not work out over 30 minutes in the aerobic levels on the days we use the weights.

I've just busted through a plato this week from the information I read. emoticon

I finally realized that I don't need to do any of the mental math to figure out how much olive oil is in one serving of the soup that I made for dinner last night. Spark recipes is great. You can enter all your recipes in (a little time consuming, but its worth it), the servings, and it will tell you the calories per serving. This is helpful because my daughter has soy, lactose, and gluten allergies so I have to prepare every meal we eat to make sure it is safe for her. Anyways, just thought I would share because it took me a couple months to figure this out, and I wish I had known sooner!

Finish graduate school
-Rose gold MK watch

Eat paleo for one week straight
-buy some more yummy food (BACON!)

Start weight (135ish)

5lbs (130)-new dress to wear to that thing in Nov and BACON!

10lbs (125)- New riding boots and BACON!

15lbs (120)-Hopefully I will need new jeans and BACON!

Goal 115- New clothes and that really cool labradorite necklace I want. Oh, and wait for it...BACON!

I gained the usual encouragement to keep on keeping on. I worked hard yesterday on eating clean, drinking water, exercising and logging in but I did not lose...even went up a few tenths. I know, I know....shouldn't let the scale rule. Still it's great to get the mental and emotional help available here. Thanks to you all as well!

I read something about preventing salmonella. With the prevalence of poultry in the recipes here, I thought that might be good information to have. It is. It says to wash hands BEFORE handling uncooked poultry and keep separate cutting boards for poultry and other stuff. It also gives the cooked enough temperatures. Looking cooked vs.salmonella safe are different things. Man, have I dodged the bullet over the years!

I figured out how to import foods from other users. My husband and I would be eating the same thing and we'd each have to enter all the nutritional information. Now one of us can enter the info and the other can import the food and add it that way.

I have read a blog somebody wrote.. It reminds me of a bad time in my life... Thinking back and see where I am today - well it open my eyes for the wonder of everything normal.. Yes I get tired of the "normal" from time to time, but I will not want it any other way..

In our normal situation, everyone is happy. We all laugh and cry together... Love surounds us. Yea a little bit more money can change alot, but I really do not want it, if it can take the "normal" away...

I really do love my family and am VERY thankfull to be part of them...

Oh sorry now my emosions are running away with me.. I just wanted to share that I have learned that other peoples words and action can open my eyes for what I must be really thankfull for...

I found something out side SP today, I hope it's ok with you guys...
Virtual Walk
Here is the website:
exercise.lbl.gov

Unlucky for me it's an America thing only, so I am walking through America. Just like SP you go lock in your walking, running, cycling for the day. Then they give you a photo where you are at that stage.. It's really nice..

ELEVENTEEN1 : I found the Friends Feed on the start page , on the right side. You must have a few friends for them to report something. You can put comment on there too. I read where one friend got a reward for fitness minutes so I was able to tell her congrats -if I hadn't of read the friends feed I probably would not of be aware of it.

Today I discovered that you can record your measurements as well as your weight . Problem is I misplaced my tape measure. LOL I am going to find it and start recording my inches too.

Ok, this isn't necessarily a *today* discovery, but two days ago, I found how I can also track my sodium (I'd love to tell you how to do it, but I honestly stumbled on it and don't know how I'd do it again). OH MY GOODNESS!! I have waaaaay too much sodium in my life. I mean, I love salty foods, but I never really thought about sodium in things like bread, salad dressing, YOGURT! So, as I shop, I'm replacing the higher-sodium items in my kitchen with lower-sodium versions or other things. (Problem: I loooooove jalapenos! Haha).

Anyway, on that thread of thinking, tonight, I'm having chicken for dinner, and I had been given this set of spices mixes form my stepmother's Acupuncture Clinic in Iowa. Each jar of spices represents an element:
-Metal (garlic, onion, sage, lemon peel, white pepper)
-Water (anise seed, schisandra, dark cocoa, cloves, cinnamon, cardamom, coriander, smoked salt)
-Earth (turmeric, ginger, fennel, cumin, coriander)
-Wood (rosemary, basil, thyme, lemongrass, seasalt)
-Fire (MY FAVE) (chipolte, chili powder, cocoa, cinnamon, cumin)

I think tonight, I'll have some METAL and EARTH on my chicken! (I already had jalapenos on my turkey sandwich at lunch, so I can take a fire & sodium break!)

Enjoy your day!

Today I learned that when a post is added to a thread on a message board that thread moves to the top, EXCEPT "sticky topics" always stay at the top!

Gah, I just found the Spark Summary Calendar, and I think I'm in love. My favorite thing about SP is being able to report and show myself what I've accomplished in a day, so being able to see a month at a glance, filled with boxes in which I can see that did what I hoped I would, is a really nice motivator! It may also balance out my love for streaks, so if I mess up I can get back on the wagon by looking at what I've done in a month and how one bad day doesn't cancel it all out.

I don't have to convince other people that I can reach my goals. They'll believe me after I do, and I'm not doing this for them anyway.

I have also not friends yet, so you are welcome to add me...

I have learned today that if you get more than 25points you get an extra spin on the wheel.

One little step at a time.

I can usually see it in the right-hand column, although not on the SparkTeam pages. Happy hunting!

The friends feed sounds really good, where do I find that? Not that I have any friends to follow yet, that may be why I can't see it lol.

Today I discovered the Friends Feed. What a great way to keep up with what your friends are doing! I started using the fitness tracker yesterday. Little by little I am taking it all in.

Thanks for the encouragement, Judi! I don't tend to stick with Journals/Blogs, and I'm trying to start off with the things I know I can do well, sort of working with my personality instead of against it wherever I can.

I DO, however, tend to stick with communities (I've been a member of an unrelated parenting group for 7 years), and I've noticed that I find it easier to believe good things about others than believe good things about myself. I love pointing out other people's strengths, sharing tips, and encouraging them to forgive themselves for being human at times.

What I've discovered is that when I get down on myself, I can turn that encouragement of other moms around by asking, "What would I tell Amber if she was down about the stress of having so little personal space? What tips would I give her to find more of it?" I'm hoping that easily believing others can lose weight and sharing that belief with them, within a community, might also help me encourage myself when it's difficult.

I still may try blogging later, but only after I've gotten through the first month with my baby steps and easy stages. In the meantime, yammering away on the message boards kinda IS my blogging.

Um, I also tend to be long-winded. Have you figured that out yet? If "brevity is wit," I'm the world's most witless person.

I don't have to convince other people that I can reach my goals. They'll believe me after I do, and I'm not doing this for them anyway.

Sounds like you have some brain work to do, and you can be successful in this! Start a journal or blog here (there is a button on your SparkPage to write a blog), and try to write out all your thoughts as you start this.

I noticed you wrote quite a bit yesterday. The support and motivation you give out will also come back to help you. I found that out when I was starting this journey. Cheering others on helped me to know what I should be doing when I had a setback or plateau.

I love the iPad apps (don't have an iPhone). They do help when you are away and on the road!

This may seem weird and not quite what you meant, but I discovered that SparkPeople uses the exact same philosophy that I used to lose weight after my first couple of children. I can't tell if that makes me nervous because I failed so dramatically to make calorie-deficit calculations work after kids 3 and 4 or excited because I know this works for me IF I stick to it. I'm going to go with excited, since I went nuts yesterday doing everything I could find to do. (I lucked out with an extremely slow day at work.)

I was happy to find the iPhone app, too, since I just inherited one from my sister (she didn't die, just moved on to a relationship with a Windows phone). It makes me feel like I can keep tracking even if I can't get to a computer (say, when visiting my parents or on a more typical, busy day at work).

I don't have to convince other people that I can reach my goals. They'll believe me after I do, and I'm not doing this for them anyway.

Hi
I am abit slow, I still busy with my nutrion tracker. It's amazing how this thing work. I am from South Africa, so alot of food we are eating are not on the foodlist or it's just call something else. So I am busy making my own list by putting in the ins and outs of each food myself.

Luckily they thought of the "favourite" space, because that helps alot !!! It makes the searching so much easier.

Now I need to learn to weigh my food. I do not have an idea how much weigh the portions. I can tell that I eat 1 cup of Specail K and luckily they have the option of cups. The problem comes in when they want grams !!!

I really have no idea of how much I eat, and this is totally an eye opener !!! What a great tool!!!

But those are great things to learn. Just by changing a serving size can make all the difference in your weight loss journey! Thanks for sharing. I love the trackers too.

Oh, I also learned that a serving of tostitos is six chips and contains 150 calories...bummer.
