Hit the 290lb mark when my son was born. That little 6lb bundle made me realize I needed to get off my keister if I wanted to be around when he had a son. I lost my dad when I was 11 to cancer, so I've decided I need to improve my health to make sure I'm around for my boy...

I joined Spark because my weight had hit a 3-month plateau. I wanted to get the scale moving again. The best thing since I've started exercising as well as watching food intake is that I feel better, happier, more energetic - better about myself overall!

There are two main things that got me here.

First, my husband and I were watching Biggest Loser. I understood the premise, but had never seen the show before. Hannah got down to around 172, which is right around where I was. I started wondering what they were going to do with her since she was a normal weight now (or so I thought), and then she just kept losing. When she got down to the 130's I felt awful. I hadn't seen the 130s in 6 years.

I finally took the plunge and weighed myself in order to calculate my BMI. I weighed 175, my BMI was 30 and said I was obese. At that moment, I knew I had to make some changes.

I've fallen off the wagon a bit for the past couple of weeks, but still managed to lose a little but of weight.

Well I can say my breaking point was last year. On my daughters 16th b~day. she wanted to go horse back riding. ~~
I rode for about for years i was in the 3 day event classes (day 1 dressage 2 cross country jumping 3 stadium jumping) but i did other types of riding myself. ~~
I found a place that did trail rides, so I took her. when they put me on a work horse I thought I was goin to cry. but I was good through the whole day just acted like I was ok having fun. but at the end of the when i got in the shower i broke. ~~
Since then I have tried all types of diet plans. with no luck.
Then a co~worker told me about this site. I knew it couldnt hurt. so here I am.

My breaking point was finding out I have metabolic syndrome and am destined to get adult-onset diabetes without a permanent lifestyle change. As I've started losing weight, eating better, and getting exercise, I've found new motivation in that I feel so much better and some health symptoms I've experienced in the past are starting to go away.

I keep reaching the breaking point and try to lose some weight with little success. I'm normally a quiet person, trying to fix my problems on my own, but am hoping that if I open up to a forum like this that I just might lose the weight for sure this time.

And to add to this, I'm very happy to see some people already on the road to success! I'm afraid my ticker is just not going to move!

My breaking point was having my husband want to take me clothes shopping because most of what I have doesn't fit anymore. I don't want to buy bigger clothes. I've been down this road before. My highest weight 349 lbs, lowest adult weight 180 lbs, weight right now 300 lbs. Time to turn this around now.

My breaking point this time was going on vacation with my sister, and worrying all the time whether I'd have enough energy to do the siteseeing we planned. I didn't want to be a burden, or a wet blanket, but somedays my feet were soooo sore, and I was sooo tired, and perspiring all the time. There has to be something better!!!

In August, I'm going on another vacation with my husband and friends, and I don't want a repeat. I want to be able to enjoy the time without being exhausted.

A year from now, I'll wish I'd started today.

Sometimes I need reality to slap me in the face before I will understand. I'm definitely a person that learns the hard way! I bought my wedding dress one year ago and had my first fitting a couple days ago and learned that it was too tight and would barely zip. I have a good handful of pounds to lose in a few months so that it will fit again. That was my breaking point! I hope to lose about 15 pounds in the next two months so that my dress will fit, and about 45 total to be at a healthy weight!

Hi Just Dana-

Feeling bad about yourself is not doing you any good - if you can't find anything cute in your closet that fits, you should go shopping if you can afford to. Now is not the time to torture yourself - yes, you have some pounds to lose, but if your feeling stressed about your appearance, that will only cause you to stress-eat or do some emotional eating. Take care of yourself first! emoticon

Just started watching Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution and got all inspired.

And my sister-in-law had great success with this site, lost a lot of weight that was hard to get off after her 2nd pregnancy.

My master's is in healthcare administration and policy and so many of my classes discuss the health issues for those who smoke, drink, overeat,... I know that I need to make a change. Now that I have a break in classes before my residency begins, I really want to make some healthy habits which will stick!

I'm uncomfortable ALL the time. My stomach gets in the way. I waddle when I walk. And I'm almost in tears every morning, wondering what the heck clothing I'm going to squeeze into for work that day.

The worst (for me) is that, over the past few months, most of the women in my office have "gone healthy"; they've all lost weight and look amazing! I'm happy for them, truly. But now summer is here, and they're all dressing so cute with their little figures, and I'm still hiding in my winter-wear. I refuse to buy clothes in a bigger size - so I'm stuck with these old things until I do something about my weight. And now I am! Day 4 for me. Yay!

Being fat is hard. Being fit is hard. Your choice.

I can pretty much say the same things.
1) tired of being tired all the time
2) don't like how I look
3) the most I have ever weighted
4) having a hard time finding stuff to fit me and that I will even wear-need to get out of the plus sizes.

As for me and my house we will serve the Lord.

There are so many reasons, but mostly I just had enough. Enough of being upset about how I look. Enough of being completely out of shape and out of breath at the simplest tasks. Enough of being tired all the time. Just enough. So, I'm going to do something about it.

The person in the pictures and mirror is not the person in my mind. On top of that, I get winded so easily sometimes it's crazy. Plus, I'd like to be able to shop somewhere that isn't the plus size department. When holding up my jeans, I'm shocked all the time at their size and they fit me! It's not even like they are baggy or huge. I need to do something to lose all this fat and get healthier.

I think being single again after 20 years of marriage can be a real eye opener at how you get complacent about how you look. I realize that I need to lose weight to be healthier at 54 but let's be real. I would love to get a whistle every once in a while. Turn a few heads when I walk into a restaurant. Maybe one day!

Going to a water park and observing women with similar figures as mine wearing much more becoming swim suits and thinking "I used to wear those suits!" I then went on a bender trying to find a better looking suit which only drove me crazy feeling like a sausage in spandex. In a moment of clarity I decided to stop with my craziness and finally do something about losing the weight that I've been complaining about for the past couple of years.

I have been off-track for quite some time now and have reached my heaviest weight yet. I have very few clothes that fit and don't want to buy anything at this size, especially since I am currently unemployed.

My mother has a couple different health issues that are closely related to her weight. Her doctors have told her that a few simple changes and even dropping just 10 pounds would make a significant difference. As I sat there judging her for not making the necessary changes, I realized that is where I am heading. In 20-some years, I don't want my children thinking the same thing about me.

I was in a wedding this past weekend and the pictures I have seen do not match the "me" in my mind! LOL I was always athletic growing up but have not kept up with it. I want to change that and feel more energetic again!

What brought you to lose weight? For my, I was watching TV and this guy's mom had passed away because of her weight and he was 24 the same age as me. It got my thinking that I want to be around when my son is 24 and in order to do that I need to start getting off my ass!
