If you are looking for Miso, I have a great source for you. South River Miso has OUTSTANDING products. They sell some of the more popular varieties in Whole Foods (look by the refrigerated tofu) but their mail order prices are just about the same as in the stores and with added variety. I always suggest to friends that they try the sampler pack first to see which type they love best. They are all great but they are different.

My youngest son eats miso every night before going to bed. He truly does get upset if we run out. I use it all the time so there's not much chance of me running out.

That's handy to know about the miso/tahini swap. I can't find miso anywhere. I just got my jar of raw tahini in the mail yesterday!

Now that is an ingredient that I never would have thought to use as ingredient in its place. I will have to try it. emoticon

I got this from a gourmet site:

Quote: "There is no substitute for the pure flavor of miso. If you just need a small amount for a recipe try substituting sesame paste or tahini."

Maybe it's me, but I never have one or two of the ingredients in the house whenever I want to make something.

Travel sent me a recipe last night with miso and I would love to find a sub/swap for it. Anyone have any ideas? or any other suggestions for other subs/swaps they use?
