Thanks, FG!
I will be calling the insurance company today.
Low Jack would have been about a thousand dollars to add and I feel that is too much.

WW - At least you had it locked - even though it was stolen. One of the first things an insurance company will ask is if it was locked. Only thing it changes is that the insurance company will pay on it if it was locked. I don't know what kind of a fight you might have if it wasn't locked and on the street.

I don't have one, but I sure like what I have seen and heard of the low-jack devices they have. I bet they are expensive, too, but I like the idea of locking the thief inside so the cops can get them, instead of them being able to leave it and go scot free.

Sorry you had to experience that kind of thing.

I bought a 2005 Honda Element today. It's red=)
It has some circuit thingy that makes it much harder to start without the key. It is in our fenced back yard instead of on the street in front. We have a heavy chain and lock on the gate. It will be a pain for me, especially in the dark and wet mornings, but better than it getting stolen.

I nearly always lock my car, especially when out on errands. My car is 20 years old, so it's not a popular target, I assume. However, when it reaches classic car status, that may change!

Wendy - I am so sorry about your car. I hope you recover it soon.

I lock my car when I am in any parking lot but at night it is in my garage and I don't lock it.

I always locked my car when I got out.

It was locked early yesterday morning (3am), on the street in front of my house, when some creep came along and withing 11 seconds was inside and in less than 45 more seconds he had it running and drove away. Now I don't have a car.

Our cameras captured the whole thing but from too far away to get any description. We showed the policeman the video but it basically showed him that yes it was stolen.

If I am away, yes. Otherwise it is parked in a locked garage and I don't worry about locking the car doors. The doors lock automatically when I am driving.

I lock my car at night, when I'm not in it anywhere, and when I'm driving it. I notice there are some cars that auto lock when you turn on the engine and again when you shut the door, assuming you haven't left the keys in the ignition - my husband's does that.

But basically my car is locked except when I'm getting in or out.
