I've heard that P90X is REALLY challenging. I think it's great that you keep pushing yourself. Like I said, I like a hard workout here and there, but I have to mix it up with activities that are more fun movement than anything else. I'm not sure my body could take regular bouts of the tough stuff. I'll be curious to here how you like P90X.

Jillian def isn't for everyone. I like her cuz she keeps me motivated and I get a great workout in 20 min like you said. Sometimes 20 min is all i have so I want to make it count. I also like that she combines strength training, cardio and abs in one workout. Just do it once or twice a week. I have yet to complete the actual 30 day shred (doing 10 day level 1, 10 days level 2 and then 10 days level 3) I really should do it but I am planning to start P90X in May

Okay, so I tried the 30 Day Shred for the first time today. First of all, you ladies who do this regularly are FIT! This is not an easy workout. I liked how Jillian gave specific direction and was very clear on what not to do while performing the moves. I also liked that I felt I got a really good workout in 20 minutes. I would definitely include this in my DVD collection (this one is on loan from the library) and use it for a quick workout. For me personally I also need DVDs in which the trainers are a little more easy going and (sorry Jillian) fun. Some days it needs to be all business but other days I really need to just fly around my living room in a sad attempt at hip hop dancing!

I think that if you're considering doing a different theme for each week in May, that should suffice challenge-wise. I was thinking along the lines of Week 1...Drink 8 glasses of water each day. Week 2...Work out for at least 20 minutes each day. Week 3...Incorporate a new fruit or vegetable into your diet each day. Week 4...Get at least 6 hours of sleep each night. or Practice a new relaxation technique each day.

These are just suggestions but for me it would be helpful to have a short-term focus.

Please post any suggestions for May's challenge in here or the suggestions forum. Open to any suggestions you may have. I want this team to be a place you enjoy and get what you need from it!

I also would like to know if you want to continue with a daily challenge while we have our monthly challenges or just get rid of the daily challenges? Is it too much to stay on top of?

I also had an off day yesterday. I had salads for lunch and dinner but I overindulged with the sugar...my major challenge is those sweets! i am kicking my workouts into high gear this week including adding more workouts to make up for the extra calories. We can do this!

I thought Easter was going to be my challenge, but yesterday was tough food-wise. My husband and kids and I had a great day playing outside, walking to the zoo and just enjoying the finally-warm weather. We decided to stop and have dinner at a little kid-friendly restaurant we have not been to in years. I think because of the nature of the day (unstructured, fun) I really didn't even want to think about points, fat grams. etc. I pretty much ate what I wanted to eat. This hasn't happened to me in a while because everything is usually so planned. I'm going to try to eat reasonably today (a normal meal of ham, a small serving of potatoes, veggies) and just let yesterday go. Working out first thing was a good start.

I read a friends blog this morning and wanted to share what was posted. This is so true and I thought we could all benefit from reading it! Have a great day girls~emoticon

Live for Today—Stay in the present

“I will be happy when ________” - You fill in the blank. How many times have you said these words: “I will be happy when I lose weight”, “I will be happy when I get a new job”, “I will be happy when I get married” ? These and thousands of other such statements, postpone your happiness, which lowers your self-esteem. You are telling yourself that you don’t deserve to be happy until a certain event happens. What you are really saying is that you aren’t good enough right now, today, to be happy. And when the long-awaited event does occur, there will always be another and another. This makes it impossible for you to ever achieve happiness and high self-esteem unless you begin to accept yourself today.

Making outer conditions responsible for your happiness puts you on a roller coaster of emotions. If you feel good only when things go your way, you are left miserable a great deal of the time. As long as your happiness is tied into the achievement of future goals, you will never be satisfied. You will always need more to be happy. And if your need more, then you are telling yourself that you are not good enough. This damages your self-esteem.

While goals, dreams, wishes, and fantasies play a necessary part in your life, even adding to your self-esteem, it is important that you live for right now. You are perfect just as you are at this very moment. Sure, there are things you would like to work on, but you are still a worthwhile, beautiful person just as you are today.

Right now, make a list of five positive characteristics or traits about yourself. Whatever it is, write it down. Keep this list in a safe place and refer to it when you start thinking of all the things you don’t have. Give yourself permission to be happy and have high self-esteem TODAY.

Taken from the book “Why Can’t I Stop Eating?” by Dr. Debbie Danowski.

I wanted to do the workout at least one more time before responding. Today I did the 20 minute version. First, I would tell you that it's LOTS of fun. Good music and fun moves. A non-stop pace. I will definitely be doing the 20 min. workout a few more times before moving on. The moves are repeated in different variations so I feel like I will get it (unlike some of my dance DVDs where I, as my husband likes to point out, "flail". The moves are all kickbox/boxing/martial arts related. The transitions would be considered "dancy" but again, lots of fun.

In terms of expense, I think you get a lot for your money. I don't remember the exact breakdown but I think you get something close to 8 workouts in the basic package. The cost was around $75. I feel that it was worth the investment as I'm ready for something more in my workouts but I'm not a huge fan of just strength training (where you can add extra weight to bump it up) or straightforward running, bootcamp moves, etc. (where you simply go faster or a longer distance). I require distraction and this fits the bill. I look forward to doing it and I know I'm working at a tougher level than I was previously.

Is anyone else working out with Turbo Jam? I had read so many good things about it I decided to make the investment. It came yesterday, so I did the starting DVD (Learn and Burn) today. I just loved it! The infomercials made it look daunting but it's really broken down well. I'm not sure what it says about my nature that I'm drawn to martial arts/boxing moves, but it certainly gets out the aggression (LOL)!

No I don't have any special plans for my birthday...just hanging out at home with my kids and hubby. May go out to dinner if hubby treats me! :)

Funny how that is...My husband is what you would call a "bigger" guy and I learned early on in our marriage not to push him too hard with anything health related. As long as he eats what I cook, I try not to get on him. I would love to have a partner in this (it sure would make things easier!) but I know where he's coming from. I give him credit for being happy with himself the way he is and not obsessing as some people can. When he's ready, he knows I have plenty of advice to give!

I love the 30 day challenge...very motivating! Worked out already today and am going to try realllly hard to watch the food intake. Weekends always seem tougher with no real schedule and lots more temptation.

Are all of your significant others on board with your healthy lifestyle efforts or is it a bit of a battle? Mine helps in so many positive ways (watching the kids while I work out on weekends, eating what I cook, etc.) but then brings home a cupcake (as he says, "It's small...can't do that much harm.")!?! He doesn't mean anything by it but it makes it all the more difficult.
