I'd like to re-start this down in the Writers' Cafe forum and keep the General Discussion for everyday/ non-writing stuff. Thanks! (I can't re-name the topic or delete it)

(How do you make the accent mark show up on the "e" in cafe?)

My big project these days is getting novel #1 back in print at Create Space and Novel #3 in print for the first time - also at Create Space. The site is overwhelming and I have broken down the process into weekly goals to help me get there.

This week I am checking out Create Space, exploring the site and forum boards in case I have questions. So far I learned a lot and am starting to feel more confident that I can do this.

hmmm, I thought I had posted here prior. Maybe I sent my post to private spark e-mails? At any rate, I'm Della and I am writing a book also.
After reading what you have all written, I'm encouraged to write, once again.

Thank you so much, Bonnie for your willingness to provide feedback. That is a kind and gracious offer! It sounds like you had a very good experience with your critique group. It sounds like a wonderful group of people!

My book will have a segment on Hannah but she won't be the main story in the book. My book will be titled "Unchained Melodies : Songs of Deliverance. It is intended to be a compilation of both Biblical and contemporary stories concerning people who have been "imprisoned" (both in and outside of a cell) and how the power of God has set them free. Hannah's story is going to be a part of the story of the prison of infertility and how the power of God set her free giving her a total of 6 children including Samuel.

I am interested in reading your writing at some point. I say at some point not to negate my desire but just that currently I have a stack of books I am attempting to read.

I look forward to working with you. I also have a busy lifestyle and get discouraged with not writing at times and also desire accountability and encouragement.

Do you know of any sites to help me with some of my research? Specifically I need to find out the role of the woman in Biblical times and how the impact of infertility affected women during that time.....

Christine, I would love to hear your ideas and give feedback! I used to be in a critique group that fizzled out and I miss the writing interaction we had. But I did make several amazing friends from all over the world. We still keep in touch.

Are you writing about Hannah? I noticed in an earlier post you talked about doing research.

I primarily write Bible fiction. My first book was about Ruth. Writing it was an amazing experience - I was looking for a Bible character who had gone through similar experiences to my own (incest) and had come through victoriously. Through much prayer and study, I discovered the story behind the Bible account of Ruth.

The second novel is about Rahab, written in response to the horror of human sex trafficking and the amazing potential of God to deliver.

I still write Bible fiction, but for novel#3, I created a fictitious character who lived during the time of Israel's slavery in Egypt. It's not in print yet, but I hope to publish it on Create Space soon. I just need a cover design. The next one will continue the saga of the women in this Hebrew family as they journey through the wilderness.

My writing seems to go by fits and spurts. I know I should write everyday, but it just doesn't happen. My hubby is a pastor and I need to work outside the home to help with finances. With church activities and work, and now my heart problems, I often find myself discouraged and not writing as much as I need/want to. So it's good to have accountability and encouragement.

Looking forward to hearing your ideas!

Bonnie

I got excited last night when I found a beautiful song referring to Hannah that is also a Mother's prayer. I hope I can contact the artist and get permission to use her words in my book!

Bonnie,

How lovely that you shared this with us! I love to read about the power of God in action in our writing. Long ago, I was a special education teacher. I would have loves to do something this creative with my children!

It is so encouraging to read about how God used this experience to motivate you to write!

I would love to hear about your previous novels!

I am working on my FIRST book and I wonder if you would be open to me bouncing some ideas off you and seeing if you can recommend any resources?

Blessings and Prayers, Christine

I hope I can become more active here though there will be weeks when I won't have much time because of subbing as a class assistant or personal care aid in the local school. But I had an awesome writing experience this past week and wanted to share it. I thought you all would appreciate it.

My goal for this past week was to try to write a scene or two for novel #4. But God had a special surprise planned for me which took all week to develop. I've been subbing as a temporary full-time class assistant in the middle school life skills class for the last 4 weeks. There are 10 students in the class with varying degrees of autism, learning and physical disabilities. Most of them are pretty high functioning.

On Monday, the teacher asked me if I would be willing to talk to the kids about what it's like to be a writer since I have published 2 books already. She scheduled the presentation for Wednesday after lunch. (Yikes! I only had 2 days to prepare - but God helped..)

What fun! I talked a little about being a writer, then we "wrote" a story together. I gathered their ideas and brought them home to put it all together. It was a story about their class with lots of dialog and a simple plot/problem to solve. I personalized it with details about each of them- their personalities, names and actions, also the classroom lessons they had been learning (like counting money and working together).

Friday I brought the completed story back and read it to them. They listened and laughed as they heard their names. Their childish excitement as they interacted with the story was like a gift from the Father to my heart. He showed me the power writing can have from a new perspective and once again He fanned the writing flame in my heart. I love it when God gives us His own brand of encouragement like that.

I'm done with that sub assignment, and already I miss those kids, but I hope to go back to sub there once in a while. So this week my goal is to rest up (so my angina settles back down again) and to spend some quality time working on novel #4. I am also working to get #1 onto Create Space so it is back in print and e-book format.

Blessings to everyone here as you work toward your weight loss and writing goals!

Bonnie

If you centered the lines you can see that they are in the shape of a chinese lantern. You can see that the first line is one syllable, second two syllables, three syllables, fourth four syllables and the fifth back to one syllable. Here is a link to show how they are supposed to look when centered. ( shape of a Chinese lantern)

I love to write poetry and just had two lantern poems published in a small bi-monthly poetry magazine. A lantern poem is called such because it is in the shape of a lantern. This comment box will not allow me to center the poem so you can see the true shape but here are the poems.

I have been going over my devotional "Praying For The United States". I did not like some of my writing so I am re-writing some of the devotionals. Not the ones I have all ready posted but the ones I have been working on. I should have some posted by the end of the week or the beginning of the next week.

Please, everyone, let us know what you are working on.

GOD BLESS!

I kind of put my writing the Devotional "Praying For The United States" on the back burner so to speak. Now I am going to start up again and continue to work on it. I should have a few days posted by the end of the week----Prayerfully!

I really do not have any good reason why I have not worked on it but I haven't. No excuses--just facts!

I really pray that others are not like me and have worked on their writings.

Everyone, Please Have A Very Blessed And Wonderful Sunday And Week! emoticon

Christine, I will be praying for you. I too have not been obedient to God about working on my writing daily. So I am going to follow your example about working on my writing 10 to 20 minutes daily.

I am still working or going to work on the Devotional Praying For The United States. I will post when I get one day done and the post when I get the next day done etc.

I am also (right now in my head) working on a daily blog about how God wants us to take care of our bodies. OK, I am going to get personal--how God wants me to take care of my body. I want to show how taking care of my body Spiritually, Phyically, Mentally and Emotionally works all together. When I get Day 1 written I will post both on this Team and also make a blog on SPARKS.

Everyone, let us all work on our writings and post them here.

GOD BLESS!
Louise

Working on a book I feel God has called me to write. I have been walking in disobedience not working on it and I am convicted. My initial goal is to work on it 10-20 minutes a day and then build from there. I am a newbie at this and am in need of prayer as I go through this process.

Mary Ruth, I am not sure how to post a link. I will have to find out. However, if you look at the Team's Forums, it is the fifth forum down, just before it says Team Goals. I am not good at directions.

If anyone knows how to post a link, could you please help me out.

I hope this helps you a little as I said I am not good at directions.

I also am not sure if "Praying For The United States Devotional" is the best name for my Devotional. This will be the one I keep unless The LORD points something else.

I just posted on Our Monthly Writing Forum. It is funny how The LORD works. In my mind I was thinking of a different kind of devotional. However, The Holy Spirit is having me write a devotional on Praying For The United States Devotional. I posted Day 1 from it.

I am not sure when I will be posting Day 2 as I have not even written it yet.

Please let me know what you think.

THANK YOU!

Christine, I think this is a Great Idea! The LORD put the right person as leader of this Team.
I am working on several devotionals and as soon as The LORD tells me to, I will post one of them on "Our Montly Writing Forum".

Thank You again for coming up with this idea!

I was just inspired to write that so I don't have definite plans as of yet. I was thinking we could post our work on the "Our Monthly Writing Forum" (I changed the name from Misc.) so that everyone on the team and any visitors could read our work in one place. You could also opt. to post a link to your blog. I am open to any suggestions.
I could write a prompt but I want the writers on the team not to feel wedded to that prompt. My hope is that we all post a writing of ours - whether a devotional, a thought for the day, a poem, a blog, a song.... I want a welcome place where we can freely share our writing and where we all inspire, support, and encourage one another.

Huzzah, could you provide a little more information? In other words, you would provide a writing prompt. Would we then post to the thread, or simply reply on the thread that we had done the work?

I have an idea. I would like to start a thread where you commit to write at least one time a month. It doesn't have to be a specific theme or length. I could provide you with a suggestion but you don't need to stick to that. Who's in?

I believe that inspirational writing is a calling. I love writing but I did not do anything with it for a very long time. I have been praying for The LORD to show me what HE wanted me to do and I keep getting from HIM--WRITE!

I know it is a calling from The LORD.

I am going to get the book you mentioned. You are so right though, reading about writing does not get words on paper. I am working on the Christian fiction book I mentioned earlier.

GOD BLESS!
Louise

One of the very best books I've read about writing is A Novel Idea by Jerry Jenkins and others. It's packed full of ideas, prompts, plot advice--everything. I've read it, made notes, dog-eared pages. Of course, reading about writing doesn't get words on the paper, but this book does provide inspiration. I have a Christian romance set in the 1880s in the works as well as a contemporary romance. I tried hard to make the romance mainstream, as it were, but I just couldn't write the steamy stuff. Well, I could, but I kept wondering why I was turning out that kind of story. So I've ripped it up, and it, too, is a Christian romance. or it will be when I turn the non-spiritual into spiritual.

Does anybody else think that inspirational writing is a calling?

like i said in my other post, i've been lurking here for a while but i'm finally ready to post.
i've completed a semi-autobiography with stories about my life, and one-liners that show why the stories taught me a lesson. i've also completed two childrens' books, one about a small bear who goes to heaven and meets jesus, and one about how the town that small bear lives in came to be. i'm planning on it becoming a series to teach children about Godly principles. i wrote a short fiction romance to enter a competition so i can start to build a writing portfolio - i stopped writing and am only now at the age of 49 getting back into it. that short story was a longer version and it was fun (!!!) to pare it down to 999 words... the one that's really on my heart most is the one i seem to be having the most trouble with. it's a teen fiction story about a gal who lives in a very sheltered environment but then circumstances compel her out into the big wide world, where she gets a whole lot of surprises. i know the basic idea, i'm just having trouble getting it out onto paper and expanding it. any suggestions? exercises? thoughts?
kari

SPARKYCARLEY, You writing projects sound wonderful. I know you will be an help and an
encourager to people who are going through what you went through. Mental Health is an issue dear to my heart as I have had several aunts and uncles in an hospital for mental illiness. Of course, that was a long time ago and they have come a long way since then but I know it still could be a lot better. People just do not understand mental health issues.

GOD BLESS!

I have 2 blog sites
- Worship Melodies - Devotional messages based on my own journey toward God
- Tin Roof Sundae - Bits of Fun & Curious Stuff from a Bipolar Christian

I will be starting a 3rd one that will be about info, help, advice, stories to help dismantle stigma against mental illness and abuse victims.

I will be starting as a regular blogger for the International Bipolar Foundation soon.

I have 3 book projects happening:
- My story with a twist... it's also a help / info book for abuse victims and mental health issues.
- My story of losing weight and my journey toward healthy living (not the same story as above)
- A Book of "Where to find it in the Bible when..." for new Christians.

Yes, I do have the same problem of getting very involved with my characters. Even though I am not a country singer my dad did commit suicide so it is hard writing down my character feelings without getting emotional about it. I am positive others go through the same thing. A lot of writers of fiction base their work on their own lives. I will pray for you to get through the emotions so you can continue your writing. I am not nearly as far as you are in my writing. Infact, the writing is mostly notes and outlines to be sorted out and put together. I do not seem to have any problem writing the devotional except that I have to work on it more.

GOD BLESS!
Louise

Hi!
I am writing a contemporary romance novel. I began in June and am about 21,000 words into it. I had hoped to be further along, but it has been difficult with school, family, etc. I would dearly love to go hole up in a cabin somewhere and just write!

I do have one other problem that slows me down, and am curious if anyone else has this problem. I get very involved with my characters! I find myself wanting to avoid dealing with their problems, and feeling the emotions they feel. When they sin, I feel the need to repent. When they cry, I cry. I feel silly - I am not an emotional type person! I think it is because I am writing from my heart. The experiences they are going through are similar enough to things that have happened in my own life that I feel as if they are happening to me.

I hope that means it is going to be a good book. My main character makes some bad choices, but through them she learns about grace, and meets her true love. There are plenty of humorous moments to keep it from being overly serious, and even a bit of suspense to shake things up. I am planning a series out of this, so I want to get this one done and move on to the next. Most of my writing lately seems to be for sociology! Groan! emoticon

Please come here and tell us about your writing projects.

I will start. I am not a published writer but I hope that I will be one day. I am working on writing a devotional book for Cancer Survivors. I am also working on a Christian fiction book about a country singer affected by her dad's suicide.
