I have been a LTM since 1990 and at goal or below for most of the time and I haven't paid to weigh in years. There are no freebies unless the leader makes the call. I was an area manager for WW and later training manager for all of Michigan. WW doesn't make any $ from LTMs at goal. And maybe its time to just quit going to WI. I never stay for the meeting. Its like a social club for the permanently overweight ladies with gray curly hair.

It was supposed to warm up today but it started at -5 so I will see. I woke up to Annie starting to throw up. In my attempt to get her off the bedroom carpet onto the kitchen floor she pulled me down and I hit hard on the entire side of my body. My wrist, shoulder and knee took the worst of it and it hurts. I think she is licking her hair off her bed (like a cat) because she ate more that 12 hours before the incident. Unless she is eating frozen poop when she goes out in the night. Its not the first incident and all she throws up is nasty bile. It takes serveral days of scrubbing to clean the carpet. I don't need this when I am try to sell this prison. Not an auspicious start to the day.

Lori, congrats to your DS! You should be proud. That's a tremendous accomplishment.

Hello Team,

Yesterday my DS finished the Bar. We won't know the results till May 15th. He has his graduation ceremony tomorrow. I'm extremely proud of him.

It's supposed to rain hard from tonight till Monday.

I wish you all some sunshine and days out enjoying it this weekend.

~hugs, Lori

Hello Team! No new snow here...yay!
oh KATHIE, doesn't WW have a free pass or something...like a pass for one homework in school. I thought there was such a thing a while back, but who knows. It's hard to not feel crummy and trapped with this relentless winter on top of everything else life has thrown your way.
BERYL, clink, clink...lifting a glass to you getting your home back.
Hope all the other teamies are well.

Kathie, I am so sorry. I would hope they wouldn't make you pay for a missed meeting since the weather is so brutal. I'd feel trapped, not being able to get out even if I wanted to in that brutal cold.

Sorry some of you are still getting snow. I guess it is too cold to snow here. This morning it was 22 below zero. Yesterday's high was 3 above. Never made it into the studio area. Actually didn't get anything done beyond bringing in the firewood. Will try to do some cleaning today and go through the bills & bank statement. I have no ambition to do anything.

That was my monthly WI I missed. Only one meeting in this stupid town so if I miss it I am out of luck. I am still below the WW goal and refuse to pay a missed meeting fee so unless she lets me weigh in free next week I will say goodbye to WW. I don't follow the new program as it is.

Guess I am in a really crummy mood. I feel trapped, like I'm somewhere in a long, dark tunnel and I can't see any light in either direction.

Good snowy morning. Woke up to a surprise snow. Not that much and it seems to have stopped. Yay.
Peg, enjoy the classes. Please post the pictures!!
Slow day so far. Good thing is DD and all went home. Not before I picked up Jo from daycare and gave her dinner. DSIL is sleep deprived because all she wants is him, not DD, and he gets nasty when he's sleepy. Not something I want to be around.
Nothing big planned this weekend, and I'm good with that. Zumba tonight.
Have a good day team!

Good evening Team, just checking in.
DR SUE, glad you got away and were able to enjoy it. Wed. afternoon was beautiful...It must have been close to 30 degrees with some melting and then it froze last night. The snow continued most of the day, but didn't amount to anything. Now we're cold again, but next week...maybe above freezing!
BERYL, hope you get your house back soon. I did see that Gaga will be on AHS. I gave up on this past season. Hope the next is better. Wonder who will be returning?
KATHIE, did you get into the studio today? This long run of frigid temps has gone on long enough. Pretty bad when I take Ruby out and it's only a couple of degrees above zero and I think...hey, this isn't too bad...
Yesterday I brushed most of the pastel off my "maple manhattan" still life and washed it down with alcohol (the rubbing kind :) ) to get some of the tooth back and did a landscape over top. The paper has a very rough surface and for the past several months has (and continues to be) impossible to get, so I couldn't just throw it away. The landscape turned out ok...something I just made up. Will try to download some pics and then post on my sp page.
Mom's washer is in! There was a problem with one of the water connections so I had to run out and get some WD-40 (because with all the crap she has accumulated, there wasn't any WD). The old hoses were ready to break (one had what I can only describe as an "aneurysm"). Four and a half hours later, washer in, load of towels done (so I could go over the operating instructions with her), instructions written out and taped by the washer, bills paid (with a little guidance and a lot of time she writes the checks) prescriptions renewed and a few other sundry things. Then I went out to dinner with a group of high school friends and had a great time at a wonderful Italian restaurant that has gf pasta available...a perfect ending.
There's another pastel class that I can attend tomorrow and Sat. is yoga. I'm starting to feel spring in my heart, ladies. Wishing the same for all of you!

DrSue, glad you got away and had a good time
Peg, hope you don't get any more. We had flurries, and southern Delaware was supposed to get a lot
Kathie, I'm glad you didn't wake up sore, but still is still bad. Hopefully a massage will be in your future. I think you can skip this week's WI--it's way too cold to go out.
Hopefully their heater is installed today. Last night was way over the top for me. No one picks up after themselves! You'd think I'm a mother or something.... emoticon
Busy at work today and I have my student.....
Peg--did you hear Lady Gaga is going to be on the next AHS??? How fun!
Have a good day team!

Good morning team! Am still getting around, and not quite buried alive. I was away this past weekend.

Lori, happy belated birthday! You are right you will shed the extra weight.

Beryl, you finally got a snow day! Glad your mother listened to you and your brother about not driving.

Peg, I'm glad you are enjoying your artistic endeavors. You are too hard on yourself. I'm glad the snow melted somewhere. We had some melting yesterday, but you wouldn't know it. It is so good that DGS has the support of his mom's BF and family.

Nicky, I'm glad you got your much needed rain. Great on your Nicky nonuts success.

Kathie I'm sorry you are having such a bad time. Hugs.

So, I did go up north and ski last weekend. Q and I also snowshoed in a foot of fresh powder.
It was a great weekend but 3 out if four days it was very cold. When I got there Friday it was -27 and blowing 50 mph at the top of Wildcat. I redeemed my ticket, hung out for a while and the told them the conditions were too bad, so I got a voucher, that I used Sat.

It has been warm for the last 2 days. When I say warm- I mean I could walk to work without long johns on under the rest of my clothes. It hit a high of 25 yesterday. The down side is when it gets warm-it snows. 2 inches yesterday, and snowing as we speak.

Oh well. Stay warm everyone.

Peg, sorry about the snow. It was -20 when I got up and 3 hours later its only up 2 degrees to my plans to WI today will probably fall by the wayside. This is the first time I have missed WI in many, many years but I didn't have a car the first 3 weeks and its just not worth driving into town in this weather just to stand on a scale. And I ran the water in every room to make sure the pipes are clear. Don't need another scare.

Nicky, I am originality from Michigan though I lived in San Francisco for 4 years in the early 1970s. At times like this I wonder why I came back. In truth, though, I remember it was because I missed my family.

Today is the first day in weeks that I did not wake up with a back ache. I am still stiff and in need of a massage but I will try to be active in the house today and make an attempt to start something in the studio. Anything.

Good morning Team!
NICKY, don't forget the half a lifesaver! (or is the candy lifesavor?) anyway, I'm hoping spring will bring some motivation my way 'cause I can't find any.
It's snowing guys! and I'm hoping it's really nothing. Have to go to mom's and clear a path to her back deck because the washer is to be delivered today...sometime between noon and 4.
(I didn't know we were getting snow today...sigh)
LORI, enjoy your garden. The only progress I've made in my winter sowing is the collection of water/milk jugs and liter seltzer bottles that has sprung up on my counter. Maybe this weekend...
Going to check Hudson Valley Weather.com 'cause it's coming down pretty steadily...
A good day to all.

KATHIE, just can't even imagine doing all that hard labor in the bitter cold. Are you also a Yankee, not originally from MI?

BERYL, don't you dare shoot yourself. Go to your Special Place. Meditate. emoticon

LORI, my Meyer lemon tree is bursting with fruit; they're supposed to be ripe in December.

Tomorrow is a birthday luncheon for step-mom's friend. Step mom called me yesterday to say she was sick AGAIN with a chest cold and won't be attending. She doesn't want me to bring her anything, including any cold remedies. She's 95 and has just recovered from a lengthy cold/bronchitis thing October-December. She has brain fog as thick as the San Francisco Bay.

I've been super diligent with the getting to bed by 10 and 10-minute meditation every night, but, alas, I've been lax about tracking. I, who have a real problem with portions cannot hope to shed pounds unless I track. I don't know why I'm not motivated. I need to shed these extra pounds because my clothes are tight.
There is an event at the end of March that will involve a meet-up with ultra athletes and hikers. I'm the oldest in the group, and I will be embarrassed if I don't lose that extra tonnage by then. Here we go again, that Super Model Diet. I start tomorrow. Oops. The Black Angus Restaurant birthday party is tomorrow. I guess I'll order the steak luncheon plate-----"hold the steak, hold the potato, hold the salad, just the tomato, please."

When you arise in the morning,

give thanks for the morning light, for your life and strength.

Give thanks for your food and the joy of living.

Hello Ladies,

Kathie, thank you much for your recipe. I don't eat oatmeal, so I'm trying to figure out an alternative. You were so sweet to post it for me.

Ladies, I am so sorry for all the bone chilling cold. You are all so brave and resourceful. I admire you all.

I watched the Oscars too. Bleh, all but for Julie Andrews' sincere hug given to Lady Gaga. That performance gave me the chills too.

Tonight will be the birthday celebration that I missed last week. Going out with my BFF and lovely sister from high school.

My garden is bringing me much joy. No sign of my bougainvillea yet, the sun still doesn't shine in the back patio yet, but my front garden is thriving.

~hugs and love, Lori

Good morning Team!
The cold lingers here, too, but there is a ray of hope in that early next week we may reach above freezing. After that, who knows? We always seem to have some major snow in March...so....
KATHIE, glad the repair was minor and the handymen jrs. can handle it. Thankful you were safe in the blizzard. I am very tired of winter and it's accompanying hurts and aches. The constant shoulder hunching doesn't help either. You're right, mom cannot make decisions. Must be difficult to constantly second guess yourself and not be able to retain info.
BERYL, tomorrow is Thursday! Now, it's not just ABC who has TGIT :) Watched Dead. Will it be good or bad...Terminus or Woodbury? Yet, there's a gay couple who seem normal. Time will tell.
Hoping all are well. I'm off to pastels this afternoon.

Oh, Kathie, you are superhuman in my book. All that you are doing yourself is amazing. I'm sure you ache and hurt. Anyone would. I'm glad Daryl and other Daryl can at least do simple things. Hopefully that's a help.
I am lucky they're here with me. THat's what I keep telling myself! And I am. The fact I'm old and crotchety and set in my ways is no excuse.
Tomorrow would be my dad's 87th birthday. I will call my mom and tell her I'm thinking of her and him. It won't be a good day for her.
Busy with paperwork at work. Just "stuff".
Getting takeout tonight.....after dance fusion! I WILL go!!

Beryl, hope you all get along great and remember, Thursday is tomorrow.

Peg, I'm glad DGS has a good man in his life. And yes it sounds like your mom is overwhelmed. I suspect making decisions is hard for her.

Lori, be sure to scroll down for the oatmeal recipe I posted for you.

My handyman has moved to a town over 100 miles from here. His two sons came over yesterday and we checked the pipes which, thank goodness, were not damaged from the freezing episode. They also did a small repair in my bathroom and looked over my list. They assured me they can do the jobs which really aren't all that difficult, just tasks I cannot do alone. I would have been Bill's helper and all those years of being the assistant I apparently learned the basics of what these jobs entail. So when it gets a bit warmer I will drive to the big town and get the replacements I need.

I stupidly drove to spinning in a blizzard yesterday. It had just started snowing when I left and here in the woods high winds are not always evident. I had to shovel twice when I got home and my plow guy came around 6 p.m. so I'm good to go today. I have to meet with the tax accountant and then hit the grocery store for essentials.

I am so tired of winter. I ache all over and I don't even get any relief when I go to bed. Its the constant shoveling and carrying the heavy firewood then loading the stove which is clumsy. I wonder if Bill ached all the time in the winter. Maybe that's why he never wanted to go out or do anything the past few winters. Men do not like to admit to aches. I know he was immediately on board to move south. Wish we could have done that.

Today's high is going to be 7 and even colder tomorrow. No end in sight for this. The long range prediction is very depressing. 35 sounds tropical. According to the long range forecast we will not see that number until after St. Patrick's Day. I hope the forecast is wrong.

Good afternoon team!
Woke up to the radio giving a temp reading of 13 below...yikes! That is not motivation to roll out of bed. Took mom washer shopping today and she bought one which should be delivered on Thurs. She did fine and then after she was home awhile a major meltdown. I don't really know what's going on, but this tends to happen when I take her grocery shopping, too. Could it be that going out is overstimulating for her at this point? not that I will stop taking her out, but I don't know what to do about it or if I can do anything about it.
Hope everyone is well. I didn't see the awards so I can't weigh in on dresses or hair :)

Nicky, so funny you said that about the dresses and hair!! I had commented that exact same thing to someone--their hair looked like it hadn't been done at all. Or even combed or washed. Just hung there, most of it. The dresses were, for the most part, lovely.
I loved Lady Gaga too! I'm not always a huge fan, but hearing her voice just gave me chills, and seeing Julie Andrews, and how obviously touched she was, was wonderful.
Ate way too much salad for my late dinner after class. After popcorn, I think the bloat is going to kill me! emoticon

Oh, KATHIE, what next? Let us know if it's just a fitting that came loose. My DH taught himself how to "sweat" copper because we get a broken pipe almost every winter at our ranch(haha). Never fails----it bursts in the attic where he has to crawl on his belly to get to the place.
I can fix toilets all day long and replace a garbage disposal, but I would NEVER go up in the attic or under the house!!

LORI, I was so excited to get that wonderful, glorious rain last night! The skies were bluer than blue this morning with huge puffy clouds, almost garish in intensity.
We even lost our satellite feed a few times during the Oscars.

Oscars----I hadn't seen one of the films, so........meh.
I thought the dresses were super nice this year, though.Boy, some of the hairstyles were positively awful, as if they may have missed their hair appointments and tried to do it themselves.
I got a little teary when Julie Andrews appeared after Lady GaGa's medley.

KATHIE, the oatmeal you make sounds divine. I'm pretty much NoSugarsNoGrains except for chia, hemp, and flax.
Pine nuts and pepitas (pumpkin seeds) don't cause me any problem.

Dr. Eric Westman, a Duke University researcher has commented more than once that post-menopausal women just can't do a whole lot of carbs. I took his admonition to heart and just stay away from carbs except for veg. At this point in my life, it's the only way I can stay near ideal weight, and even that is a bit of a battle. Requires constant tweaking and NO COMPLACENCY!! My downfall.

When you arise in the morning,

give thanks for the morning light, for your life and strength.

Give thanks for your food and the joy of living.

Hi team. Realized I hadn't seen any notifications--then found out no one posted! Hope everyone is OK.
Oscars were blah, in my opinion. Not seeing any movies didn't help!
Off to class now. Hoping it goes quickly.
DD2 and Jo are sick. DD1 is in Seattle giving a speech. DS is coming in on Wednesday so that'll be nice.
Nothing else going on. No exercise today. Did go yesterday after the brunch.
Have a good evening!

KATHIE, that recipe sounds delicious! I have a "baked oatmeal" that makes one serving, uses applesauce, but no eggs. I'll add cinnamon and some fruit or chopped almonds, whatever I have. Like the idea of making a pan and having for the week. Thanks.
LORI, BF is DD1's boyfriend of 8 years. He is a wonderful person and has been a real "dad" to DGS. that's why it was wonderful that his family included DGS in the grandchildren listing in the obit. It's DGS's father (for all practical purposes just a sperm donor) who is the jerk. He came back into DGS's life about 7 years ago for a really brief time and has not seen him, sent a card, called, nada since DGS was 4 yrs old. And you're right...4/10 of a pound is 6.4 ounces.
BERYL, glad brunch went well.

My tail started wagging when the sun came out and melted most of the remaining snow from the roads and my driveway.

Baked Oatmeal with Pears, Cranberries & Blueberries

12 Servings

2 (24.5 oz) jars slices pears in light syrup, drained
4 eggs
¼ cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 ½ teaspoon baking powder
2 cups milk
4 cups old fashioned oats

fresh or frozen blueberries
fresh or frozen cranberries

Preheat oven to 375 F

Puree pears in food processor & transfer to a large bowl. Stir in eggs and sugar. Add salt, vanilla and baking powder & stir well. Add milk then oatmeal and stir to combine.

Pour about ½ of the mixture into a 13 x 9 glass baking pan. Rinse berries and add as many berries as you like. I probably use about 3 cups. I like to cover the oatmeal layer. Pour in the rest of the oatmeal mixture.

Bake 1 hour. Your house will smell like heaven.

This recipe is very flexible. You can substitute canned peaches, or 3 cups of applesauce for the pears. Any berries, fresh or frozen work great.

I cut into 12 portions and freeze half for next week. You can easily cut the recipe in half and bake in a 8 x 8 pan for 6 servings.

Reheat for 90 seconds in the microwave. Top with yogurt if desired.

Hello Team,

Kathie, I'm with everyone else, hope that cloud lifts and soon. You are going through so much and doing it gracefully. I know that it may not seem so, but from this end I see it. I want your recipe directions and ingredients for your pureed pear recipe please.

Beryl, would it be an acceptable idea if you and siblings took away your mom's car, or is she still capable of her day to day errands and the ability to drive is enjoyable? It appears that you and I are on the same wave length on ounces gaining. I don't have a math brain by any means, but while there is 16 ounces in 1 pound, on our scales there is only 9/10ths. So, if I weigh in at 150 and the next day 150.4, that doesn't mean 4 ounces and it really is confusing. Oh well.

Peg, is DD1's "BF" boyfriend or best friend? Either way for him to be a jerk about it is just wrong. I wanna see your pre burbon and after burbon paintings.

Nicky, we got rain, we need it but I know you were hoping not. I think through Tuesday. What will you and Guenther do?

Yesterday was glutonous and glorious. For lunch we drove about 1 1/2 hours to meet DD1 and family. We got to spend a couple hours with my 3 babies. Those who have FB can see some pics from the "photo booth". Just the sight of them makes my heart happy. Then back home and DD2 and friend got us dinner. I tasted pizza crust for the first time since early July and had cheese cake for birthday cake. I'm up almost 3 pounds but I'm positive I will lose them.

~please all stay safe and warm, ~hugs, Lori

Good Sunday afternoon team. What a crazy day!
Ugly morning, icy, slushy, a real nightmare. Took a long time to get to the brunch for my uncle, but we made it. DD1 and loser SIL did not come (guess she didnt' shovel out his car) and my mother did not drive up either. WHEW. Got out of there 2 hours later and the sun is out, it must be 30 degrees warmer, and it's all melted!
Unbelievable brunch. I had 2 plates of salad with shrimp, then 5 pieces of fresh fruit covered in chocolate. I could still be eating, given a choice. Off to the gym soon.
Peg, I had other words for him, but jerk was PG!! emoticon Glad she puts him on voicemail.
Watching the Oscars tonight--not that I've seen any of the movies, but I read about them, which definitely counts!!

Good morning Team! Back in from shoveling. At least I got some activity in. Got the lower end of the forecast, only 3 - 4 inches, but it wasn't that light fluffy stuff. Oh well, all done til the next one...
BERYL, you are very kind to refer to him as a jerk; I have some choicier names for him. She can't really block him because he is after all, at least biologically, DGS's father. So she lets it go to voicemail and listens later. Hope your dinner out was enjoyable and you stayed safe.
Again, my sleep is all messed up. Was still wide awake when the plow came through at 4:30 this morning and then woke up 6-ish with some old Law & Order episode on the tv.. Need to straighten it out.
KATHIE, hoping your pipe is fixed and now both your house and car behave. Perhaps a stern talking to?
Wishing all a good day.

We got walloped with this one, even though I'm not sure we were supposed to. DH is out there snow blowing now. Going to a local Asian place for dinner. We were going to meet eveyrone for dinner tonight but it didn't happen. Thankfully my mother listened to both my brother and myself and did not drive. She may want to drive up tomorrow but we'll dissuade her of that also. It's going to change to rain and be a mess.
Peg, DDs ex is a bully. Jerk. What can we do? Be glad DGS has family who loves him! Can DD not take his calls/texts?
Kathie, hope a Daryl or Larry was around, or someone else is.
Be careful out there ladies!

oh KATHIE, it never ends, does it? Thinking of you. Be careful out there. I don't have a handyman, don't even know a handyman. Guess I should start a search for my own Darryl. You're probably right about being on their snowmobiles. There's one family in the neighborhood that rides their snowmobiles up and down and all around the streets whenever it snows. Have to take some pics of my most recent paintings and then upload them. Am waiting for some good natural light. Figure that means I'll post pics in June or so...
BERYL, hopefully your mom will take your advice. I am so glad (in some ways) that mom's car is sold. Don't have to worry about her driving anywhere. As for the maple manhattan recipe, it is basically a manhattan with a little less vermouth and some good quality maple syrup added in.
Started snowing here around 1:00 even though the forecast was for the storm to start tonight. Got a little over an inch. Storm is taking a breather before it really hits, but it is quite slippery out there and lots of evening activities have been canceled.
Remember how I mentioned that DD1's BF's family listed DGS as a grandchild of his mother. Well, that loser father of DGS is giving DD1 a hard time about that. Not like he or his family has ever been around or acted like a family to DGS. Some people......

Good early Saturday afternoon team. It just started snowing here. Supposed to be ugly. Both my brother and I left messages on my mother's phone telling her NOT to drive up here. That won't go over well, but an 83 year old driving in the snow.....or anywhere, for that matter.....
Oh, Kathie, I hope this cloud over you leaves you alone! Hopefully the pipe will thaw and all will be well.Be careful out there today.
Peg, please post pictures!
Yay for NickyNONUTS!!
Up .8 at WI today. So discouraged cause I feel thinner. My leader insists I"m not eating enough for my workouts....Intellectually I know she's right, but it's so counterintuitive to my years of thinking! I do eat a lot, it's just all vegetables!

We are supposed to get into the low 20s here too. When I let the pups out this morning it was about 10 and that felt warm compared to the way below 0 days. But its snowing and I have about 4" to shovel already.

The bad new is a frozen pipe in the basement. It may still be frozen or maybe not. Its the waste return from the guest bath. Yesterday I decided to clean the bathrooms. I keep water in the tub in the guest bath in case of power failures (well pump is electric). I drain it every week, wash the tub & refill. It drained briefly and then started coming up in the toilet. I closed the drain and ran downstairs and there was some water, not much, on the floor. Called the handyman but he has not returned either of my calls. Have determined no other pipes are affected so I was able to use the water in the kitchen & my bathroom. But I need to deal with this. I had a major meltdown yesterday. I am calmer today but really down. I don't think anything is cracked, maybe just a connection needs to be tightened or something. I really think handyman work. I know Bill would have fixed it easily. I can't afford to pay a plumber for what a handyman can do. Either way its Larry, Daryl & Daryl and they are probably all out on snowmobiles this weekend.

Nicky, good for you being NONUTS for 2 months. I have my triggers too and I kick myself every time I think I can have them in the house. I don't get any satisfaction from those high percent chocolates either. They taste like baking chocolate to me. Actually I get my kick in morning from baked oatmeal. I make it with pureed pear, milk & eggs and then stir in blueberries & cranberries. I bake a big pan and the house smells like heaven. I cut it in squares and reheat it in the micro each morning and top with vanilla yogurt.

Peg, I don't normally drink bourbon but that maple drink sounds yummy and the still life composition was very clever. Let me know when you post pictures of your paintings.

Beryl, hope the celebration is angst free. Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Lori, hope you are feeling better. There's so many germs floating around right now. Be well.

Hi to DrSue & Kellie.

I am giving up on the handyman calling back. I have to go to the bank, library, post office, etc. and shovel so I better get off my rear and get on with it.

Happy Saturday Team. Latest weather word 4" - 8" of snow, ice and sleet overnight. Originally it was forecast that we might reach 40 degrees, but it's been revised to only 25. It will still be a heat wave. Hoping our CA teamies get some rain.
Missed yoga, just couldn't pry myself out of bed. Now off to do some errands.
BERYL, too bad when what could be a joyous occasion is tainted. Good luck.
NICKY, I always sprinkle some cinnamon on my cut up apple. I love apples and that just makes them a little more special. Congrats on living up to your name, NICKYNONUTS.
KATHIE, hoping today is a better one for you.
LORI, feeling better?
Haven't heard from DR SUE. Hopefully she's not under a pile of snow.
KELLIE? Where are you KELLIE?
A good day to all.

KATHIE, it could not be easy to sign all those papers; it's so final. I hope it sells quickly.

PEG, sorry the Lindt didn't do it for you.
I have started covering a cut up Granny Smith apple with cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice, and a couple tablespoons of cocoa powder. It's like a huge bowl of dessert. I'll bet it would be good as a baked apple, too.

LORI, it sounds like you were the Berenstein Bears and "Too Much Birthday." Why do you think you had the tummy issue?

Yes, I've remained NICKYNONUTS for two months because it was getting out of hand, so to speak. Nuts (almonds and walnuts and pecans) are real trigger foods for me. I can't stop at a small handful. Today I had a taste of the Mixed Nuts at Costco, but I'm still going to say I remain nut free because I wasn't triggered to eat more. It was the demo tasting any way, and I didn't go back for seconds and thirds.

Also tasted a frozen yogurt confection; happy to say that it tasted like chemicals.

Supposed to rain on Sunday. Crossing fingers and toes that we get rain and you get some relief from the frigid temperatures!!

When you arise in the morning,

give thanks for the morning light, for your life and strength.

Give thanks for your food and the joy of living.

If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies in yourself.

I do not know how or why I have 3 of the same posts....I'm so sorry.
Peg, what is the recipe for that maple manhattan? It sounds wonderful. Enjoy yoga.
Kathie, I'm so sorry for the very difficult emotional day you've had.
Pretty sore from the exercise, but it was fun.
Brunch Sunday for my 80 year old uncle. Weather is not supposed to cooperate. My brother had his son call my mother and remind her about the weather and her driving. She's supposed to drive up here tomorrow. Terrible person that I am, I'm really hoping she can't/won't. She'll be carrying on on Sunday that my dad isn't there, even though it is NOT about him on Sunday. She's supposed to see Jo tomorrow afternoon, and the stress of hearing about that is killing me now. I know all this isn't nice, but it just .....is.
Off to finish Judge Judy and begin Walking Dead.
Keep warm and look outside to see the stars tonight. They're glorious!

Happy Friday Team! and the frigid weather (the word brutal comes to mind) continues. Today's arctic temps felt a little warmer. My car doors, although not frozen, were sticking. Will get a little warmer over the weekend, but that's bringing snow, ice and sleet...yuck!
Went to another pastels class and did a still life of....the makings for a maple manhattan... lol One of the other students had talked about them last week and I piped in and said "what a great still life that would make". So, today she brought a bottle of bourbon, cherries, beautiful glasses, crackers and cheese. hey...they say you should paint what you know, right? Anyway, it was fun, there was a lot of laughing, a little (very little) sampling as it was before noon, and what fun! My painting came out so-so, but there are sections I like. It was fun anyway.
DD1's BF's mother died last night (aged 79) so I will go to the wake and funeral. In the obit they named DD1 and DGS as surviving relatives...how nice is that? That family has totally accepted DD1 and DGS and DGS refers to the other kids as his cousins. I think her BF would adopt DGS if weren't for having to get that total loser of a father to sign off...oh well...
KATHIE, glad you have wheels again.
BERYL, hope you enjoyed your day off.
LORI, garden shopping? I can't imagine. I'll have to live vicariously through you.
Hi NICKY (yeah, the 85 Lindt didn't do it for me), KELLIE and DR SUE.
Saw a bumper sticker (well, not really on the bumper, but on the tailgate) "More wagging, Less barking" my new mantra.
Tomorrow morning is yoga and I am looking forward to it.
Wishing a good evening to all.

Peg

Beryl, glad you can have fun on your day off. Schools are cancelled here too. Just not safe for the kids to be outside in the cold waiting for buses.

I signed and scanned all the papers to sell the NC house this morning. Had to sign Bill's name & initial it over and over. It was doubly hard, looking at "deceased" on all the documents and letting go of the shared dream we had. I am doing this because I want to and I know its the right and sensible thing to do. But it still rips everything open again.

I'm just grateful I got the scanner working so I didn't have to drive to a bigger town to buy a cartridge for it or to scan the documents at the office store.

Not a good day.

Good morning all from my warm living room. All public schools in Delaware are closed today due to the freezing temperatures. And you should hear the parents complaining online......
So glad you got your car back Kathie. WHEW!!! One thing down.
Lori, hope you're feeling better and glad you enjoyed the day!
I am venturing out. Where, you ask? Why, to the gym, of course. lol
THere is a Body Pump at 1015 then a fabulous, fun zumba following it. I'll hit the market after that and be in the rest of the day. I'll catch up on Walking Dead.

Lori I am so sorry you had to cancel your dinner plans. Glad you enjoyed garden shopping. Wow, garden shopping. That's a hard concept for me today.

It was 25 below zero at 3 a.m. when I got up and fed the wood stove. All the way up to 20 below right now. I finally have my car back (yes it was the OS sensor) but I'm staying in for now. I did bravely drive to yoga last night. The class is 2 towns over via the back roads. It was -5 on the way there and -14 coming home. I wore 3 layers under my coat & boots. And it was worth the trip. I have missed it and my body said "thank you".

Peg, sorry to hear your new friend is moving away. But nice to know you like your last painting. I hope you will post it and share it with us.

I hope all of you are warm. I don't know where this cold snap is headed next but if its coming your way be prepared. Its as cold as its been here in all the years I've live in Michigan.

Hello Team,

I had a wonderful birthday, garden shopping with my friend. My stomach was cramping and bloating all day so much so that I had to cancel my dinner plans.

I did gardening all day today, I just love it.

Kathie, Oh man, that car of yours, I agree, this has got to be it.

Dr. Sue, glad that it didn't snow too much. Sorry about the ugliness.

Peg, you too, sorry that it is just ugly. I am enjoying the warm weather and gardening for you too.

Nicky, really, no nuts at all? I guess good for you, is in order.

Beryl, I hope that you enjoyed your time at the gym and your dinner.

~hugs all, Lori

Good afternoon ladies! Late start today. I had my student with me and didn't want to be on the computer too much!
Kathie, I hope this is IT with the car. Stay safe.
Peg, glad you enjoyed the class. Sorry about your new friend.
WInd is kicking up here, supposed to go into minus territory here. They're discussing school tomorrow. I could be home if it's too cold! I cant' tell you how many kids I've seen today with no coats.
Gym after work, just cardio today. Maybe a woggle, maybe the elliptical--we'll see. I'm still sore in my quads from all the squats the last few days.
Dinner is leftovers. From the stirfry last night and also from our Italian Saturday night. We're quite the international couple here. :)
Hope you had a good birthday Lori!

Good morning Team! Hope everyone is well.
KATHIE, when we used the woodstove, we were lucky enough that there were usually enough embers in the morning to get it going again without a middle of the night restoking. That being said, I would fill it before I went to bed (11 -12) and XDH would get it going again when he woke up (5:30-ish). I guess that's not so amazing after all as it only had to go 6 hours without food. The problem came during the day when we were both at work. As for the car, mine has two O2s...one "relatively inexpensive" and the other...you can guess which one would fail the most.
Went to pastels yesterday and it was a good class. I am loving the clear blue of the night sky recently and tried to get that feeling in my painting. I know you won't believe this, but I am pretty happy with it. Just found out that a "new friend" from class is returning to England to stay. I'm really bummed even though I don't know her well, but we seemed to click and had been making hiking plans for when the weather cooperated. She dropped by class yesterday and I was glad that I was able to see her before she left. She's bringing her lab, Lily, too, of course. We told her that we would take a painting trip to England and she would see all of us at her door with all of our paraphernalia.
Off to pilates.

Happy Birthday Lori! I am sorry I missed it by a day. Hope you celebrate all week.

On heat: I also have baseboard heat with a thermostat in every room so I can regulate it. Its electric but its my supplementary heat so there is a complicated system with the electric co-op which gives me a 40% discount on the cost of the heat by allowing them to regulate it during peak periods (on/off on a fairly quick cycle that does not cool the hot water tank). We've never noticed any loss of heat. The peak usage is air conditioning when the summer people are here it doesn't affect heat. Primary heat is the big Jotul wood stove. I have been hauling in wood (the last 4 cords were stacked on my covered front porch) and hauling out ashes since Nov. but my electric cost for the supplemental is averaging about $100 month so I know the wood heat is doing the job. When nature calls in the nighttime I come fully awake and go into the living room & attend to the needs of the stove.

On the car: Peg, yes, I think that is what the mechanic said the computer read out showed. The part came in and it did not correct the problem so it goes back in this morning. Its -8 right now so I am getting up my courage to drive to the shop. I had the car back yesterday and got my errands taken care of and got to church for Ash Wed services. It is promised back to me tonight for yoga makeup which I need very much.

First of all, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO LORI!!! Many more healthy happy ones!! emoticon
We love you!
I have a nursing student with me at work for the next several weeks. I'm exhausted! It's hard work!!
Peg, hope you get to your class and enjoy!
I miss baseboard heating. Nothing warmer.
I have a square of 90% dark chocolate every night. Makes me so happy. And it's so good for you, it's practically a health food!

yes, NICKY, it can. So I tend to not have the furniture right up against the baseboard and as you said, heat rises, so it rises up behind the furniture and over the top. Will check out the Lindt. I had a heroin addict do some masonry work. Luckily he was so good, that it turned out well.

PEG, Lindt 85% chocolate bars have no nasty ingredients, inexpensive, and really quite good, not bitter. I don't indulge very often, not one of my triggers, but I sure enjoy it.

Going to the movies with my dad, he would always buy me a buttered popcorn (in the old days it was real butter) and either Red Vines or GoodNPlenty. A few years ago we had movie night, and my DS and his girlfriend came by with Red Vines AND GoodNPlenty. Ended up throwing them both away. The GoodNPlenty has a coating of WAX on the outside to make it shiny and pretty. Yuk! The Red Vines tasted like sweet starch. Now, has my taste changed? Probably; HOWEVER, I think the ingredients have also changed. High fructose corn syrup and/or wheat in everything!
That's my rant for today.

Started added raw, unsalted pepitas to my salads for a bit of crunch.

Roasted broccoli with bacon bits and pine nuts is the bomb!!

DRSUE and PEG, that sounds so practical to have heat coming from the baseboards, but, does furniture block some of the heat? Most California homes have forced air vents. We, unfortunately, had the Darryls (who were also cocaine addicts) install our heat. We have tons of floor vents in the UPSTAIRS, where it gets to be 200 degrees, and fewer vents near the ceilings in the downstairs. They missed that day at heater school where they learned that heat rises.

Hang in there, Team. Spring will come. Spirits will soar.
On the bright side, the body burns more calories in the cold.

When you arise in the morning,

give thanks for the morning light, for your life and strength.

Give thanks for your food and the joy of living.

If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies in yourself.

Good morning Team!
Sunny today which is a plus.
DR SUE, we are in "dirty snow" season, too. There is just nothing pretty or redeeming about that. Oh, and "snow frozen into boulders" season with a hint of massive icicles that can kill.
NICKY, like DR SUE, water circulating through the baseboards, except my fuel is oil, not natural gas. They usually fill my tank monthly (more often during temps like this and less often during the summer) and it will take 125 - 150 gals. at a time. Usually can make it through the year with approx. 700 gallons. It heats my water, too. I hear you about the 85% choc., but I'm not a real dark choc. fan...very few brands that I enjoy and now I can't think of any...
KATHIE warned us about the ending in Downton.
Hoping to make it to pastels this afternoon.

Good morning team. We just got about 1/2 inch of snow yesterday. It was nice in it was just amount to cover everything. We are now into the snow looking dirty, which I find depressing.

Beryl, I'm so glad you got a snow day.

Nicky we havs natural gas with circulating water in the baseboards. We survive at 55! Ok 57. I wear lots of layers and we have a faux fire place in our front living room. Plus, there is the heat transferred from the fur coats that snuggle with me.

Kathie, I'm glad your real actor is on board. The problem with email and texting, is you lose the opportunity to hear inflections and tones of voice. It can be easy to misinterpret someone's words. As Peg said, letting go of one dream makes way for new ones. Easier said than done. However, the practical side is it would free up some money for you. I'm crossing my fingers for you.

Peg, i am glad you got home to relax with your maple mahatten. Hopefully you will have some real "Peg" time soon. We all need that.

Lori and Nicky enjoy the sun and warmth.

I need to shed my fur coats and get ready for work. Have good day everyone!

Next time, PEG, do the 85% chocolate bar instead of the M&Ms. I don't blame you for indulging, though. My step mom is not quite demented; she's........um.......confused. She was so good to me during my formative years, and I've learned so much from her that I feel doubly guilty for being annoyed at her dithering and repeating and closing her mind (talk to the hand) when I'm saying something she doesn't want to hear. Inflexible in every sense of the word.

BERYL, Jambalaya sounds simply divine! Do you use sausage, shrimp, and chicken, or what?

TWO MONTHS NICKYNONUTS!!

I managed to lift the amount of weight in squats and deadlifts today as I did pre-knee injury. I feel like a beast! I work for functionality. When Bryce was bitten by the rattlesnake, I picked him up and carried him to the shade (about 50lbs), as well as picked him up and climbed into DS's truck with him in my arms. I NEED to be able to lift heavy things in case of emergency; I guess we all do. We all need to be able to lift and bend and squat to remain independent, too.

KATHIE, it will be bittersweet to sell, of course. I wish it wasn't so. Your angels have something different in mind for you.

PEG, how often to you have to replenish the oil? Excuse my ignorance. Is it a radiator, then, or is it forced air?
The house (mansion) that was built behind our property has most of the roof covered in solar panels, and I've heard them swimming in their pool often this winter. It's still too expensive for us to consider doing that; we won't be in this house for another 30 years, of that I'm sure.

Watched Downton and Grantchester last night. Both were terribly sad. I actually boo-hoo-ed when Lord Grantham brought Isis into bed with them.

When you arise in the morning,

give thanks for the morning light, for your life and strength.

Give thanks for your food and the joy of living.

Good evening Team!
KATHIE, I am relieved that all is well with your realtor. As for letting go of a dream, it's never easy and yet, opens the way for new dreams, no matter how unwelcome they may be at first. Is it an O2 sensor? I have gone through my share of them and they are usually what make the check engine light come on.
LORI, I'm very glad to hear someone (and NICKY) are getting sun and warmth. Enjoy it for me!
BERYL, I laughed aloud when I read that her boots were left in the shed. omg, what are we to do? After 4 hours with mom today, I rewarded my self with the new Imagine Dragons CD and (yes, I'll admit it) almond M&Ms.
I'm home, settled into my chair, maple manhattan at my side and breathing...slowly...in.and.out...slowly
Hope everyone has a great evening.
DR SUE,did the storm (hopefully) miss you?
KELLIE, is all well?

Peg

Hello Ladies,

I am just soaking in all of our sunshine, especially, as I hear of all of your snow. In fact, I feel, strangely guilty, when I don't because of my team.

Kathie, I'm glad that you didn't take your car in when the weather was bad, smart cookie are you. This time, we will pray, it is fixed for good and not costly.

Dr. Sue, your Q is so adorable. I'm glad that he has you to read his body language so well. So sorry about all the snow.

My Beryl, snow day, how wonderful for you. I'd like the recipe for your beef, barley and vege soup. How is the sodium? Wait, did I hear that yor princess sister got scolded?

Peg, I, too, would read that book cuz I know that it would have a comedic twist. I'm glad that your DB is getting a taste too.

Nicky, sorry about the silverfish. I love how Guenther gets so involved with your Yoga. My Henry (kitty) does too.

My DH thought that he pushed record on SNL but he didn't. He was bummed. We do like the years ago SNL, but these days it's just crude and gross.

Been tending to my gardens and loving it.

~hugs to all, Lori

~ Lori ~

I'm here because I want to be healthy.

Everything is fine with my realtor. Thank goodness because I realty like her. She says she sent me something I didn't receive. She sent it again immediately and its obvious that she was working on it all along. Glad I did not over react. Still waiting to hear about car. Its a 2009 Jeep Liberty, btw.

Just came in from shoveling and will read & sign all the documents and then it will be the beginning of the end of the dreamBill & I bought last spring. Its the right thing to do. I have no second thoughts about selling it. When both houses sell I will find a small house or townhouse that will be right for me. But its saying goodbye to our dream and it is so sad. Its a good day to do it since tonight is the last night of the grief recovery program which always leaves me in a very sad place.

Peg, I would read that book! I did call my mother today to see how she made out in the snow. She forgot to bring her boots in from the shed (I have no idea what they were doing there) but she says she has nowhere to go. Someone shoveled her out, which was very nice. However, she has that nervous energy that makes her run, run, run, so I'm thinking she'll go to the market for her daily run. Last time she had snow I called her the next day, and got my butt handed to me because no one had called to see how she was....
Kathie, sorry about the car. Everything is supposed to be better when it's computerized, yet it brings with it its own set of issues. Hopefully this is it. I'm glad your friend is there and the shop will pick you up. I do find myself that emails are easier when I have to say something that isn't comfortable for me. I forget things on the phone, or get distracted by what the other person says. I can write and delete and rewrite emails, then set them aside a bit, and reread it to see if that's what I want to say. I'm sorry this is also happening to you now.
Jambalaya in the crockpot--it IS Fat tuesday! I had made a stir fry last night for tonight, but we'll have it tomorrow. How pathetic am I that I can't wait for dinner?!

Beryl, congrats on the snow day. I have to turn Leslie down to the lowest possible volume to keep from throwing something at the TV. I don't do chirpy very well right now. I've heard the same thing about personality as one ages.

Peg, hang in there. This is a trial but it won't last forever and you'll be glad you were there for her when she needed you even if she doesn't really know what's going on.

Car is in the shop for some kind of sensor that has to do with air intake (?) that failed independent of the transmission stuff. The part will be in this afternoon. Meanwhile it is having something reset for the remote starter that stopped working after they worked on the trans. I am bleeding money at this point but at least I will have wheels. My friend met met me at the repair shop and drove up to spin class. One of the guys from the shop will pick me up when the car is ready.

Am about to confront my realtor in NC. She is dragging her feet on listing that house. I suspect a conflict of interest because the renter works for a close friend. I will give her option of listing it March 1 or I will list with another realtor. I have been working up to this gradually in case I am misreading the situation but today's email will ask if she feels she has a conflict of interest. I don't need this @#$% in my life. My life is crappy, stressful and sad enough. Wish me luck.

Good morning Team!
BERYL, congrats on the snow day. We got nothing overnight and now it's just flurrying a little. Off to pilates and then banking with mom (maybe I could write a series..."Banking with Mom", "Shopping with Mom", "Mom and Peg Go to the Doctor"...you get the idea). Turned in her license plates this morning and will call her insurance people when I get to her house. I agree about the "enhancement" of one's basic personality (although I think of enhancement as being something good). Mom was always a worrier and distrustful and so she is now, magnified.
Hope everyone is having a good day. Looking forward to returning home after the errands.

SNOW DAY!! YAY!!! Got maybe 5-6 inches but that's enough to close us down. DH shoveled this morning before he left for work but I'm not going out. I'll do a video workout (maybe that annoying Leslie Sansone using bands) since I'm fairly sore from muscle pump yesterday. Going to work on my syllabus for next semester today. I told myself I'd do that if we had a snow day.
Peg, I have found that as folks age and their faculties become lessened, whatever personality they had becomes way more enhanced. If they were nasty before, it gets worse. If they were kind and caring, so it becomes. My aunt, my mom's sister, was always the best person ever. Funny, always laughing. She still is. She just has no clue who anyone is, but she's happy. My mother was always fairly nasty, and now she's mean. I think I told you all she told my sister to shut up the other day. My sister who is the most attached to her. She's going to alienate everyone.
Kathie, thinking about you and the car.

oh BERYL, I hope we won't have much snow here. Wishing a snow day for you, but want a "total miss" for here. Mom is also frequently angry and now it seems to be directed at my brother. She was in rare form today, but I managed to calm her down. One of my friends said that as her mother sunk deeper into dementia, she reached her "happy place". Hoping mom will reach that pretty soon...this is miserable for her as well as for us.
NICKY, I have an oil burning furnace (just had a new one installed in Oct; the old one was from the 1950s - just like me!) with baseboard heat. It's been coming on all day fighting the severe cold and winds, trying to keep the house warm (65 -68)
KATHIE, I watched Downton...poor Isis.
Good night team.

Waiting for the snow. And hopefully the phone call for tomorrow.
Cheese nite was fun. Cold, but fun. No wine tonight--had 2 1/2 glasses last night. And after muscle pump and zumba today, didn't want to drink those calories back up!
Kathie, hoping to hear good news.
Peg, so sorry. My mother called to say thank you for the Valentines card. She told my sister to shut up after she questioned why she wouldn't use the cane PT wants her to use. WTH?? She's never said that, let alone to the blessed sister. She's nasty and mean, and my brother and I are thinking that as wonderful as the community is where she lives, she's going to alienate them soon. Not my circus....
Nicky, sorry no play date. Guess it wouldn't be appropriate....I'm also a huge Dan Ackroyd fan. Celebrity Jeopardy had me crying last night I was laughing so hard.

I, too, had enough of SNL 40 right around the Californians scene. What the heck? Who were they parodying? Valley People, Valley Girls?
The old clips were still laugh-out-loud. I'm a Dan Akroyd superfan, I guess. Gilda Radner.

DH isn't the least bit interested in Downton Abbey, so I recorded it and the mystery afterward.

Gunther met the girl of his dreams, a little Husky named, what else, Sophia. It was amazing to see how these two met on the street and became instant friends. Sophia's guardian is a super good looking young guy, so I felt I shouldn't suggest a play day. Darn.

I can't even imagine such cold and living through it!!

BERYL, what's up with the student who is giving you heartburn? I remember having seemingly endless parent/teacher conferences where teacher would say the dreaded, "He can do the work. . ."
Meaning, he's not stupid; he's incorrigible------or at least that's how I read it.

PEG, do you have radiators? DRSUE, do you have radiators? How in the world can anybody afford to heat their homes? I have forced air and keep the house very cool in our "winter," but my gas bill is super high.

I think (I'm almost afraid to say this for fear of jinxing it) that my knee is just about 99%!!! I've been able to go down my bedroom steps without a creak or a twitch in the mornings, and I don't crunch when I get out of bed in the morning!! Like a normal person!! I am so grateful and so appreciative of this ol' body.
I've worked very hard on rehab, including that blessed Bosu ball and foam rolling and massage balls.
I'm a bit leery of upping my weight loads for fear of undoing it.
Still, I'm a senior citizen and am able to heal and regain flexibility and strength. Our bodies our phenomenal.

When you arise in the morning,

give thanks for the morning light, for your life and strength.

Give thanks for your food and the joy of living.

If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies in yourself.

omg DR SUE...I've called our pest guys twice to reschedule. They need to do an exterior inspection and I'm NOT shoveling a path around the house. Hearing what Boston and nearby areas have received in snow totals reminds me of one of my FL years when Buffalo got so much snow. One of the teachers was from Buffalo and we would track the totals. This was in the mid 70s.
KATHIE, body parts crossed for your car/truck? (I don't know what kind of vehicle you have) Thought I would spend this afternoon painting either at watercolor class or at home, working on some pastels, but noooo, spent the afternoon at mom's. She is just so fearful...about everything! Will take your advice about Downton; I plan to watch it tonight.
Hi BERYL, glad the class is online this week and enjoy cheese night (I love cheese!)
Hello Team!

A fellow pastel student shared her recipe for a maple manhattan. I am going to make one and go watch Downton. Hoping all have a good evening

Good afternoon team. Well, it is sunny out. The wind screamed all night.we officially have received 7 feet of snow in less than 3 weeks. Our street is so narrow, it is very difficult to get our truck in and out. It is also getting exceedingly dangerous to walk. The biggest concern is how is this going to melt? We need a very gentle warm up, or we will be flooded. It was -2 this am, with a wind chill of -27. Q would not "focus" until about an hour ago. The flip side is he is starting to climb the walls. I think I may need to break out the snow shoes and go up to the school field and let him loose. I don't think it will take long to burn some energy. Then there is wine....

I did do a 75 min spin yesterday before having wine. Today I was at the supermarket at 7am. I have a chicken chili verde in the crock pot. That is for girls weekend.

Kathie, I bet the Darryl's forgot to rest something. It happens to us a lot. I am sorry the drawing class was less than expected.

Peg, I'm so glad your brother is getting a clue. I am happy you are not getting all of this snow. It has gone from the sublime to beyond ridiculous.

Beryl, there always has to been one whiny apple in every bushel. I hope it warms up off us all.
Lori and Nicky I would love to see anything in bloom! I took some nes pictures today. I will post them to my spark page. Good for you on getting to the Y.

Hey to a Kellie and Heidi and everyone else that might pop in.

Good morning ladies. It's like -5 outside. So cold! And there is definitely (probably, most likely, almost certainly) snow for tonight and tomorrow.
Sitting in Barnes and Nobles grading papers waiting to go to the Y for 2 classes. My cleaning lady is there this morning so I ca't be home. First world problems, right?
Doing Whole Foods tonight--the theme is CHEESE! So excited. Class online tonight. Graded papers--it's just unbearable with this one student....don't really know what to do.
Kathie, hoping it's just "something" and not really anything.
Have a good day!

Hi Peg, I turned it off during the Californians. There was just way too much of the new cast. The red carpet was more fun than a lot of the show. "Jane you ignorant slut" was one of our code phrases when someone said something stupid on TV. We loved the show in the early years. So much talent.

I switched to Downton at 9. Just couldn't resist. You want kleenex for the last scene. Trust me on this one.

It was -15 when I went to bed last night and all the way up to -6 when I got up. Its +2 now and when it gets a little warmer (less frigid?) I am taking the car to the shop to have the codes read. I talked to the shop that did the trans work and they test drove it for some distance which makes sense since the gas gauge was much lower than when it was towed. So everyone keep your fingers crossed that it is just something that needs to be reset and not another bad part.

The drawing teacher is the "everything is wonderful" sort of person and she teaches that way. I am sure this is encouraging for people who have been told they can't draw but not really helpful for those who have learned to draw and want to improve their skills. I am going to sit and draw something when I get finished with this message. I don't have to show it to anyone and maybe it will help with the anxiety over the car and all the rest of it.

Wishing you all a good week and better weather (although this week is a bad weather week for me.

Kathie

Good morning Team! Still living in the freezer.
Watched SNL 40 last night. Loved seeing the old clips...not so much the new stuff. Hate The Californians and can't figure out why they gave it such a large slot. Loved the old weekend news update with Jane C and Dan A...I still laugh at "Jane, you ignorant slut"...Some of the newish people are talented...Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Bill Hader...meant I had to record Downton and Grantchester, so I'll watch them tonight. Not much scheduled for today except keeping warm.
KATHIE, sorry the course hasn't lived up to expectations. Is it that she really doesn't critique? I'm all for being kind, but I really like to know what would improve my work. Or maybe she's an everything is wonderful sort of instructor?
Hope everyone is well.

Peg

It never got above 0 here. The high point was -4. I only went out to bring in wood and to start the car to see if the check engine light was still coming on. It is. Its not the gas cap. I knew to check that first (thanks anyway Beryl, not everyone knows that). and I did the off/on thing twice for good measure. Likely something was not reset but I don't know. When that indicator went on last time I only got half way to the town on my way to the nearest repair shop before it stopped running & I got stranded so I am not taking chances. Hopefully the mystery will be solved tomorrow and nothing else will be wrong with it.

Nicky, my BF is always saying the same things about LA traffic. I'm so used to no traffic at all. I guess every location has it drawbacks. But blooming fuschias and lilies sound like a good reason to live in S. CA. Sorry about the silverfish. I hope there is an easy way to get rid of them.

Beryl. your meals always sound so good. I used to love cooking and Sunday was always a big cooking day for me. Can't seem to get interested anymore but I am thawing some chicken to do something with tomorrow. Just what depends on the car. I am somewhat limited on ingredients right now. But I have the basics so I can come up with something.

Peg, I'm glad your brother is starting to realize what you have been dealing with and will step up and take some responsibility for your mom. I am very glad you got to pastel class. Did you redo your picture? Drawing class is less fun this week. The assignment was weird and not something I am interested in doing. I guess my biggest disappointment is that I am not getting constructive feedback. The instructor does give good lessons via video, she's very available, very nice but more of a cheerleader. I guess I would say I have dropped out but its the last week anyway. I don't regret doing it but if I had known about the car repair I would not have spent the money on the class & supplies. Oh well. I should just set a time each day to draw. I was doing that for a while and then ran out of things I wanted to draw. I'm not much fun these days.

Oh, KATHIE, make sure to let us know what the "check engine light" is all about. It's probably nothing, or a wire Darryl thought the other Darryl connected.

I have yoga DVDs as well as a Power Yoga Online subscription so that I don't have to make the drive to the studio.Sounds spoiled, I know; HOWEVER, Los Angeles traffic is UNBELIEVABLE!! If I'm not tucked away in my house by 4 P.M., it could take an hour to get home from an initial 15-minute drive,no joke. There's a bright side and a shadow side to virtually everything.

PEG, have a chat with Ruby, please. Gunther waits until I'm in resting pose after a yoga session and then pounces on me and licks me all over. Today he took a little dip in the pool before sharing my yoga mat with me. If not Ruby, then who??? He only recently started doing this.

LORI, my fuschia are blooming, too. The calililies (sp?) are full up, too.

I've lived in this house for 40 years. Why now silverfish?????!!!! Do they spontaneously generate?

When you arise in the morning,

give thanks for the morning light, for your life and strength.

Give thanks for your food and the joy of living.

If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies in yourself.

Just in from zumba. It's brutal out there. Just frigid. Bad wind, snow blowing--but zumba was packed. lol
That's funny about Ruby. That's what i have to keep saying to my DH when he does anything (not peeing, but you get the idea...). LOL
Made my vegetable soup for the week, and am now roasting vegetables to get a start on things. I'll make soup for dinner too. Probably a beef/barley/greens thing.
Will have to watch Walking Dead later this week--tonight is 40 years of SNL and it looks funny, so that'll be on.
Peg, so glad DB is finally "getting it". Hopefully there will be more light bulb moments for him and he can help out.
Have a good day! emoticon
