Hello Girly Girls,

I'm back home today. I had an awesome time with DD1 and kidlets. Wow, I was sad to leave.

My Beryl, I, too, was sick to my stomach, for about 36 hours while at DD1's home. It was just awful and I'm so happy to over it. I hope that you, too, will be free from it soon. Wow, so much cooking for the holidays. I know that it will all be so delicious.

Peg, yea for your glorious day. It's cooler but still hot. Remind me of where you live and Dr. Sue. I met the family who moved into the house my DD1 moved out of for their new home. She is from Michigan and has culture shock from the hot weather in Fresno, California. I'm also glad that your meeting with the doctor re: your Mom turned up something concrete. I've never heard of her diagnosis, and I hope that it gets under control.

Kellie, no steps until this weekend at DD1's, many too, chasing after my babies. I hope that your cold is gone or at least on the mend.

Hello Nicky, I hope all is well with you and you are enjoying the cooler weather.

OMG, Dr. Sue, I'm so saddened by the news of Starbuck. I'm glad that you were able to help in in his last hours. I'm sending you a big hug, we will miss him.

It is so hard losing our beloved fur babies.

~hugs to all, Lori

Oh, DrSue, I am so sorry. My heart hurts for you. What a grand last weekend Starbuck had with you though, until he didn't any more because he couldn't. He's up there with all our fur babies now..
Peg, do they think the new med will help with the hallucinations? I hope so.
My mother has decided she needs a new car. Of course, she sold my dad's new car despite our telling her to get rid of her old Toyota and keep his new one....more drama....
And the hits keep on coming. Friends I invited 2 weeks ago for dinner who never responded suddenly said yes. And my SIL who never comes for dinner is coming. Yippee. I'm overbooked for both nights and having chest pain.
Peg, how long did it take you to get over this stomach thing? I ate my frittata I brought for breakfast for lunch, had a glass of wine and some cheese tonight, thought I was hungry, but now I'm not. I'm not nauseated which is good, but not hungry. I may be dying.....LOL
Off to make MORE lentils for my lentil and spinach salads.....
Have a good night team!

DRSUE, my heart goes out to you. It never gets easier. As I've said before, those of us who love animals must pay that price of eventual loss.

PEG, you are a fabulous daughter! Thank heaven the strangers passing through your mom's house are benign, maybe even keeping her company. ;)

BERYL, congrats on the shedding of a some pounds. I, too, have been experiencing a bit of tummy stuff. I woke up dizzy (a first for me) on Saturday and just hung out all day. I'm okay now, just no energy. Change in season maybe introduces new bugs to our systems?

KELLIE, love it whenever you check in.

DS has a stress fracture on his lower leg and is on crutches. I made him bone broth from grass-fed beef; simmered in the crockpot for about 30 hours. I used 3 tbsp of apple cider vinegar to help leach the minerals from the bones. Bones to heal bones, I guess.

Gunther and I are venturing out farther and farther away from home lately. We went 4.7 miles on Sunday at 18 min/mi, compared to the 26 min/mi we were averaging when we first started on our walks. Bryce and I would average 14 min miles and go for 8-10 miles. Gunther will be only 2 on October 4, so I'm thinking he has years left to walk with me. HAHA!!! He'll get old before I will!!! emoticon Maybe that's not a very polite way for me to think. . .

When you arise in the morning,

give thanks for the morning light, for your life and strength.

Give thanks for your food and the joy of living.

If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies in yourself.

Good evening team. We had a good time at camp. However, I lost my Starbuck. emoticon He has had heart disease and been on meds foe years. We laughed because with all of the people who said they wanted to come-and didn't DH and I discussed me leaving Starbuck at home. He slept in my suitcase all week. Anyway we were having a great time- Starbuck and I even had a dance, which he loved. An hour later he was dragging his front leg and in respiratory distress. He must have blown blood clots. His right front leg became paralyzed. I sedated him, and it was better but not comfortable. Ultimately, he made it home today to MAH, was getting worse and distant, so I let him go. emoticon

Happy Monday Team!
It is a beautiful day today.
Just got back from having the jetta's oil changed. Found out that I need new rotors and pads on the front, so that's scheduled. Also scheduled the new furnace installation. Watercolors this afternoon.
Mom's dr. appt went well and she has a med to try. we also have a diagnosis...lewey body dementia which explains the hallucinations and some other things. She'll go back in 3 weeks for med adjustment.
BERYL, sorry you're not feeling totally well. My stomach hasn't been right off and on for a while...figured it was all this dealing with mom. Congrats on being down 2. Love that WW saying.
KELLIE, congrats on your loss, too!
Hope all my teamies are well.
A big hello to all who drop in.

Happy Sunday team!
Kellie, feel better! Yay on down a pound.
I felt great, now today I am not well again. I am functioning just not hungry and vaguely nauseated. The good news is I'm down 2 pounds!! As they say in WW--"we're only 1 stomach flu away from goal weight..." emoticon
Peg, how did the meeting go? Was the doc supportive? Your brother?
I'm in a frenzy of cooking here. My 3 soups are done, my grains are done, my carrots are done, my hummus is done, my turkey breast done, meatballs and cabbage done....and I'm NOT DONE!! lol
Break over. Back to the kitchen. The good thing is I'm not tempted at all!
Have a good evening team. Hope everyone is well. emoticon

Good afternoon team!
The pool is closed and although it's sad because we all know what that means in terms of seasons, it's good because it is one less thing to think about. emoticon
BERYL, feeling better? No minimizing taken...I will take (and appreciate) any smiles I can get. The oddest thing about this (and then I will just shut up about the whole mama-drama thing) is that she's not freaked by the thought that unknown people are in and out of her house, annoyed, yes; freaked, no. I'd be on the phone to the police in a heartbeat if I thought strangers were in my house. Must just be a part of it and I'm thankful that she is not scared.
KELLIE, it sounds very busy for you. Good for you having a loss.
DR SUE, good luck on the prospective parents.
LORI, glad you could enjoy some time with your friend.
NICKY, hope you and Gunther are surviving the heat.
Sounds like our HEIDI is making her way through WY and MT.
A good day to all.

Hello Team,

It was another hot one, but got out a little with my friend.

Peg, I'm glad you had your pastels class and that the Momma drama is over for the time being.

Dr. Sue, you didn't answer about how many of your fur babies are going to camp.

Oh Beryl, I'm so sorry about your stomach and I'm praying it gets well soon.

Hello Nicky, how was your weather today. Did you and Gunther get out for a walk?

Hi Kellie, glad you checked in. Great job packing and tracking.

~hugs, Lori

Good evening Team, just checking in.
Had a great class today which was sandwiched in between mama-drama. She just called to tell me she had found what she couldn't find and accused me of taking...sigh
DR SUE, have a safe trip to camp.
BERYL, hope you feel better.
A good evening to all!

Don't you love autocorrect? I'm sorry you are not feeling well. Take it easy. I can't remember if it was Peter or Paul that recommended red wine to settle the stomach in the bible. It does work sometimes, just saying. I am so bored I can't stand it! emoticon

DrSue--"thatching the Thule"???? What the heck?? LOL
I have some weird stomach thing. I NEVER have a weird stomach thing. I thought I ate bad chicken last night, but DH is fine, so it's just me. I have eaten nothing today, but did drink water. Felt nauseated all day. Just now starting to NOT feel nauseated, just so tired I could cry. I am not exercising today. I do think walking outside in this glorious weather would get the cobwebs out of my head, but I fear I'd have to lie down and sleep in the middle of it! I will keep my stomach empty today. NOthing sounds good even. You KNOW this isn't me!!
I agree with the portions DrSue. I can eat too much of anything, even good food. And I do. My kids grew up with Hamburger Helper, I'm embarrassed to say. I thought all that stuff was a time saver. Not at all. It takes no longer to make things from scratch then from a mix. That's what I found anyway.

I've had my share of frozen pizzas and TV dinners, but those were always the exception not the norm. My mom Is a terrible cook, but we still sat down and had a home cooked meal every night. Granted my dad would get home from work and out would be the Doritos, or cheese and crackers. I eat such a varied pretty clean diet now. I just have watch my portions, and then there is wine. My new goal is watching my calcium to make sure I get enough. I never thought it would be an issue as I do eat a lot of dairy and greens, but it seems I'm falling short. I've added a glass of milk with breakfast.

I did my 30 min, mini non workout spin this morning. Morning exercise seems to loosen up my body and focus my mind.

Peg enjoy your class. You won't enjoy the pow wow with Doc, but you will be happy you did it.

I hope the heat breaks for you Ca. Members of the team. It is beautiful here. After lunch I took Q for a 50 min walk back to the hospital. He was a slug this morning, didn't want to get off the couch when I came to work or even after DH had lunch and was coming here. So I made him walk, and he was a happy pup. I think he gets tired of the multiple 15 min walks too and from the office. He wants a WALK! Well, he better be prepared cause it is weekend at the camp, and his best buddy is coming with him, as is mine and another friend. It will be one FULL truck.
DH just had the roof rack installed on the new truck and is at thatching the Thule as we speak.

Have a great rest of the day!

I'm so gld you have your pastels class today Peg!
I'm also glad the doc is on board. Things would be way worse if he wasn't. DOnt' know what that means, but you'll find out. Each doc is different.
I thought I ate some bad chicken last night, but DH is fine, so it must be something else. I have eaten nothing today and nothing is what I will continue to eat until I feel better. UGH. I am never sick!
The proliferation of prepackaged, no nutrition, easy to fix foods is scary. Yet it's what most of America eats, I fear. Not other countries, where they still cook. From scratch.
But dark chocolate is a good food, right?????

Good morning Team! Another beautiful day. Hoping our west coasters get a break in their weather.
I hear what everyone is saying about what is being bought in grocery stores and I think back to all I have read and heard about the added sugars and salt and the "addictive" quality to some of the flavorings that are being developed. Reread a post I did on SP in 2011 after a 60 Minutes episode about that very thing and noted how I ended it with a commitment to cleaner, basic eating. Well, that didn't work too well, did it? Always a struggle.
Today is pastels class and I'm anxious to get back to the new painting. Heard back from mom's doc and he's on board with the discussion with my brother and me as well as exploring if any meds would be of help to her...can't wait...not
Hoping everyone has a great day.

Peg

I notice the same super market thing, too, DRSUE, especially at the big box stores. We've been sold a bill of goods, for sure, by food manufacturers. Saddest of all is to see little kids who are on the road to obesity. The fight will be on for the rest of their lives.

Brutally hot here today, but it's going to cool down a bit toward the end of this week.

DRSUE, have a blast at your camp! Wish I could tag along. DH gave me a .357 Magnum for an anniversary present one year (what a romantic devil!). Don't kill bear, though. I kill Coke cans.

BERYL, aaaahhhh, the drama queen mother. Sigh
My step-mom does a whole lot of repeating and reliving events during my father's illness---what the doctor told her, how badly the rehab hospital treated him (as if I wasn't present for all of this), on and on. I have learned to let it go in one ear and out the other and still look engaged and interested.

PEG, your angels have something else in mind for you other than the pastels class. Any way, you'll be warm and cozy this winter! AND, you have new pastels to play with! What a lucky gal you are. Besides, oftentimes more can be learned from whimsical experimentation than from a teacher. You've got the goods; inspiration is a bit harder to come by.

Going to play with my step mom in the Dreaded Valley on Thursday. Should be a cold snap, 90 degrees. She's 94. LOVES the Soup Plantation, so I needn't worry about going off Plan.

When you arise in the morning,

give thanks for the morning light, for your life and strength.

Give thanks for your food and the joy of living.

If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies in yourself.

Hello Team,

Today is a good day for me. I'm feeling more alive and even went on a small errand. Still 100's

Dr. Sue, that story gave me goose bumps. How awesome. Thanks for sharing something positive with humanity these days.

Okay, I agree, I hate all the food/garbage people are shoveling into their bodies and shopping carts. Cooking healthy is no picnic, tho, I've been doing this since I started Omni. Tonight I am eating some baked chicken (toaster oven, way too hot for oven), with Good Seasonings Italian Dressing pckt, 1/2, 1/2 cup freshly grated parmesan cheese and minced garlic. I'm getting so hungry as it bakes. Last night I made my baked broccolli and cauliflower, with olive oil, parmesan cheese (again freshly grated), and minced garlic. I could eat that all day long, yum. I'm thinking I'll eat some fresh Brussels Sprouts steamed too.

Peg, gosh I'm so sorry about your class. Yes, there is always next year but it doesn't make it feel any better. ~hugs and I hope that the doctor calls you back and soon.

Oh, my Beryl, how momentus, you must try to keep your Dad in the forefront of your heart and mind, to honor him and maybe the rest, family drama, will not be as rude or burdoning to you.

Nicky, sorry about the sweaty mess we are after spending time out in this heat. Heck I'm not out in it right now and I am sweating, when will this end?

~well I'm off to finish dinner so I can eat it~ ~hugs

I'm here because I want to be healthy.

Good afternoon Team!
DR SUE, that is an amazing story. Just goes to show that there is employee loyalty when they work in a place that deserves that loyalty. emoticon ARTHUR T.!!! Enjoy your time at camp. Weather has been drizzly and dreary off an on all day, but then it's supposed to clear up.
BERYL, why would they want to mention to you that people will be staying at your house? Hope the unveiling and family drama goes smoothly. Hooray for the blinds! It's been pretty low key with mom except for her complaints about the kids who come in her house and mess with her stuff, eat her food and leave a bag of plastic grocery bags in her kitchen. (No, there are no kids running in and out of her house) Friday is her appt with her primary doc so we'll be checking out if meds might help. Still haven't heard back from his office re an appt. for my brother and I to sit down with him.
Did I tell you guys how bummed I am. Last May I wanted to sign up for a pastels workshop being given about 30 mi. from my home with one of my favorite pastelists. It was full and so I went on a waiting list. Of course last week, the day after I mailed off my deposit check for and committed to a new furnace, the venue called to say that someone had cancelled last minute and as I was local would I be able to fill that spot. Had to decline and boy, am I unhappy about that. Oh well, another year.
Spent today bringing in the deck furniture and cleaning the pool for Thurs.' closing. Also planted two more winterberry bushes that I bought yesterday. I'm beat. Just received a new pastel box that I had ordered so tonight there will be organizing and culling of pastels. I figure if I can just set it up so that it is handy, then maybe, just maybe, I'll do some at home.
Wish I could send some of this cool to you, NICKY and LORI. Can't send any rain though as we are mighty dry and the recent storms have been minor. Wouldn't you know it. We're in a dry period and DD2 just bought a house with a well. emoticon
Hoping all have a good day.

What an interesting story DrSue. I hadn't heard it. I do see the carts of people in the markets. I see what they are eating on the boardwalk, and in restaurants, and I'm appalled. Totally appalled. No reason they are doing that other than choice. Healthy food takes thought, and time to prepare. If you buy on sale, you can get good deals. But you have to think ahead. And plan. And most importantly--COOK! Not reheat. Not microwave. Not drive through.
I'm so excited for you going to camp! Not about the bears...
Nicky, that's awful about the heat and humidity. Stay cool and hydrated.
I have chicken thighs I defrosted for dinner, with roasted sweet potatoes, salad, and roasted green beans. YUM. After zumba. And DH will pick up our new blinds tonight. Cant' wait.
Hope the mom drama is going OK Peg. My mom is planning my dad's unveiling for the end of October--that's where the headstone is "unveiled" and the official mourning period is over for the family. It's a short service, then we're going to lunch. BUt my mother is making this such big drama, and I KNOW my mother, sister, and niece will be staying at my house, although no one has the courtesy to ask me yet. My DB lives too far out, and DD2 can't possibly have company at this point. Whatever.....
OK, enough whining. Back to work.
Have a good day team! emoticon

Good morning. I'm getting so excited to get to camp. My SIL ran into a bear up there recently. All fine. I will look into hunting season.

I am doubtful any of you heard about the "market basket saga". MB is a big New England supermarket chain, it is family owned, and there has been an ongoing family feud. It had come down to the CEO getting ousted by his cousin and the board who controlled slightly more than the CEO. The CEO Arthur T. Is beloved in the company. He knows his employees and has great benefits. So he got fired- almost all of the employees walked of the job. This is not a union operation. The employees called for a boycott. Essentially they shut down the company for 6 weeks! No one went, distributors refused to ship. It was incredible. The governors of Mass and NH got involved. Finally the cousin sold out to Arthur T.

So, I had to go grocery shopping, and MB has the best prices, but it is quite the cross section of humanity. It was crazier than I have ever seen. There were close to a thousand people in the place. The funny thing is that it was so surreal that every one was joking about it. The employees were so happy and I was impressed with how they really moved things along. However I was waiting in line and looking at people's shopping carts. No wonder we have an obesity issue in this country. I never have seen so many frozen pizzas and other tv style dinners in my life!! So much garbage, and it was all people with kids. I was appalled.
There is part of me that wants to scream, I'll never go back. However, when i checked out with 8-9 bags of groceries for 62 dollars, I know I have suck it up. I am sure it will settle down.

Back to work!

DRSUE, send some of that COLD here; while you're at it,send some rain, too! Hot, muggy, drought. Ant invasion. I can't remember when Los Angeles was this desperately hot and muggy. I can take the heat, but when humidity is added in, I go positively limp.

Went really early on our walk this morning and finally gave up. Gunther had to stop and rest a couple of times, and he's only two! By the time we got back from a 5-miler, my hair was not damp, it was dripping wet!

Summers in CT used to be like this. Take a shower and not able to get dry.
But, like everything else, it, too, will pass.

How cool to have a another Dobe, DRSUE! Sure hope they get along. Gunther loves all dogs he meets, as did my beloved Bryce.

When you arise in the morning,

give thanks for the morning light, for your life and strength.

Give thanks for your food and the joy of living.

Hi team. Long day, but a good one.
Lori, OMG, I just got floaters too. In my left eye. So disturbing and annoying, but I can live with them. They get better and worse, but they never go away. I find myself swatting things that aren't there.....I look ridiculous.
So nice and cool here. I LOVE IT! Wore a light jacket to work today!
I hate those little gnats. I have no plants, and they come in. UGH. Like the little fruit fly thingies. I hate anythng that flies, creeps, slithers.....keep them out and me in!

Hello Team,

It is so hot, over 100 degrees. I melt in this weather. My FM flares up to Extreme. Every part of me is hurting. I hate telling you all so, I even have a new oddity. I have floaters in my right eye so bad that I'm getting migraines from it. I did get to the eye doctor who said only floaters and there is NOTHING he can do about it, comes with age emoticon

I need to go out and water my gardens, however, going out, in this heat, is just not something that I'm wanting to do.

Dr. Sue, I hope that it won't even be colder at camp. Will you be taking all three of your cat babies and Q, too?

Kellie, you've got this. I've learned that staying away from carbs, anything processed seems to maintain my weight. I just don't know how to incorporate in foods like corn, carrots, potatoes and my beloved popcorn. Yikes. What, exactly, do you you do to prevent the little gnats when you bring in your plants?

Peg, it's okay to bring your drama. L-rd knows I have way too much and bring it here. How is our Melinda, doing?

My Beryl, I know what the whole blind thing feels like. Oh man, hanging anything in our house is so difficult. We went with Blinds.com and got black out accordion shades that either go up or down from the top. It gets so hot that we needed these to block out the heat.

Nicky, yes, yuck. Glad that you and Guenther are able to walk some every day. I'm doing the Carb/protein thing too. I'm not yet concerned about fat as I learned way too much on Omni to change anything yet.

~hugs to all, Lori

Good afternoon Team!
BERYL, Cheers for Pajama Day! We used to have Casual for a Cause day...you would donate $ to whatever cause it was and then could dress down, except we in couldn't because you never knew when you might have to be in a courtroom. So, I got to wear a pin that said "Would if I Could".
DR SUE, I would love to take your little boys, but somehow I don't think Miss Melinda would take kindly to that and I'm not willing to risk another onslaught of spraying. Sorry. When I biked last Friday my hands got very cold (and numb). Thinking I may have to dig out a pair of gloves (that is such a sad sad thought). How nice that Q has a new friend; should be fun to watch them play. Have fun at camp. I don't know if early bear season is on by your camp. Parts of NY have it now and it started a week ago, but I don't know how long it lasts. Be careful (of bears and hunters)
My watercolor class was just cancelled so I guess I'll change and hit the yard work I've been putting off.
Wishing everyone a great day.

Pajama day sounds great! My clients might not think so!

Nicky, I love my polar monitor too. The newer ones have a low level Bluetooth ability and that too can sync with fitbit, MFP and probably SP and others. I am not replacing the one I have until it dies.

Peg, I'm sure your new pastel is incredible. Good luck with DM and all the appointments.

Kellie awesome on another new baby. I'm still hoping someone will want my boys, but I am becoming resigned that they will end up here. One is very bold and I worry about him trying to escape. If that is the case I will have to separate them.

Lori, I hope the B12 helps your ear.

I met my new neighbor this morning. His name is Romeo, ( pet parents Michael and Jamie) and he is a Black and Tan Doberman Pinscher!! They all seem very nice. He is big-stands taller than Quint by a few inches. It will be fun to see them together. (Q decided to sleep in today)

DrSue, be careful! It was cool, not cold. I did wear a sweatshirt when I rode my bike yesterday, but it was too much once I got going. LOVE THIS!! Sorry....
Today was pajama day at work. It's Spirit Week. I asked staff on Friday if everyone wore pajamas. Yup. SO here I am....one of the ONLY ONES!!! LOL. I'm very comfy though...so there is that. And I have lots of spirit!
Gym after work, then picking up Jo.
Have a good day team!

I will be short, as I need to go to,work. I did catch up on all of your posts. It is not cool here it is COLD! I did a 21 mile ride yesterday morning. I work long leggings and a long sleeved shirt with thumb holes, so only my fingers were exposed. Not enough. They felt cold, but not aweful, then I was starting to have trouble shifting the big gears. I realized my toes were numb. I got home made tea, snuggled into a blanket. After 30 min I started shivering pretty seriously, that my chattering teeth woke the dog. Everything was fine, but we went from making sure I carried enough water to avoid dehydration last weekend, to hypothermia yesterday. It's colder today. I brought in my lemon tree, Peg they don't like it under 50 degrees.

I made the roasted tomato and garlic soup from CL yesterday. So that is ready for this week.

Happy Birthday Heidi.

We could not see the Northern lights here due to clouds. If you go to NECN.com they have some incredible photos of the lights. To me the most impressive is the one taken from the Mt. Washington observatory.

Heading to camp this weekend!

Good evening Team.
KELLIE, glad to hear you have a plan and as for the snow...I'm am right there with ya, sistah...it can stay away.
NICKY, glad to hear from you and especially that you and Gunther are pretty much on the same page. Not much to read in my posts....moaning and groaning about the weather to come, moaning and groaning about being busy, moaning and groaning about mama-drama...you get the idea...just a lot of moaning and groaning.
BERYL, your house sounds lovely and your soup sounds wonderful. Thinking it's time to put my flannel sheets back on.
A big hello to all.

Hello Ladies ! It was a great weekend! Went to WW yesterday – my WI is a little up, but that I have a plan. I have packed and tracked already for tomorrow. I had a couple meals during the week that were hard to count, I know better for next week. Need to get back to 150 – 6 pounds to go

I spent the majority of the day writing for school and Tom and I went to the trail for a walk – I’m about 14K – the total mileage is 5 miles – we walked that. The weather is pretty cool here.

We are in the process of adopting a little grey kitten for Sid – he definitely needs a friend and we spent about an hour at the shelter. It was between two – at least we know at the end of the day that the other cat will eventually find a home!
------
Peg, the snow can stay away. I set up my grow lights and ordered a couple shelves. The plants are too nice to lose!

Beryl, thanks for the support with the weight. I just don’t want to gain anymore. I like the idea with the tomatoes. I bet they will be delicious as sauce. My grandmom would can them too. Wait a month for longwood, the colors will be breathtaking. Your home sounds so nice!

Lori, yes, I get sompotting them to reduce the pests. It’s not bad, but some of them get on the carpet.

Nicky, I like that you have a new pattern with the puppy. Walking a hour every day is great.
--
Back to writing! For those who asked me last week – yes, I get writer’s block – I will brainstorm, shift to writing on paper and back to the computer to get myself going – I can’t waste too much time ….

Have a great sunday

I'm Kellie :)

Peg, you have a very busy week. I hope you have a massage or something else fun scheduled.
Went to Blinds To Go and found fabulous wood blinds. PERFECT. The color is perfect--light wood with caramel accents. Plus they were on sale. My favorite words. lol.
Went to Ikea with DD and Jo and got my lampshades and 1 new lamp. Now at least I can see, and there is color in the room.
Loving the teal dining room chairs. I need to get a runner for the table with that in it. I need pillows and stuff for the living room too. Now is the fun stuff!
Soup made for dinner tonight.Yes, it's that cool! Tofu, chicken, farro, green beans, corn, greens...whatever I had in the fridge went in it! I'm starving.
Watching The Roosevelts tonight on TV. I guess I'll watch SOA Tuesday nite, since tomorrow is the finale of Master Chef.
Have a good nite team!

DRSUE, thank you for the FitBit info. I love my new Polar FT60 HRM, and I started using RunKeeper because it syncs with SP. I started using SP four years ago now, and it would be a real hassle to transfer all that information over to MFP at this point. Besides, I don't care that much about calories; I count carbs/fat/protein.

This little eyelid infection thing l've been dealing with really brought me down a bit. It will be 40 days on antibiotics. It's stupid, I know, because it is getting better and going away. I've added proteolytic enzymes to "eat" up the dead stuff/protein debris and am consuming tons of raw fermented vegetables and probiotic and prebiotic supplements. I'm being proactive AND following my eye doc's advice, so why am I complaining and blue? Go figure.

So hot and muggy and awful here, as LORI will attest. I feel fat and lazy.

Gunther and I are almost on the same page these days!

DRSUE, RABIES!!!!????? So scary.

BERYL, I got plantation shutters for two windows in the guest bathroom, paid a fortune, but never regretted it for one minute. So easy to clean; looks fabulous; lets in light yet can allow for complete privacy. Had to cajole DH to go for it. Wish I could do it in the whole house. My kitchen windows and French doors all face the back yard, so I don't have any window coverings in there.

Really have been racking up the Fitness Minutes since Gunther has come to live here. We walk for an hour every morning, and then I come back and do something for ME. With my Bryce, we would walk for a couple hours three times a week and cover a lot of mileage, but I would be too pooped or too busy to do anything afterward.

PEG, I'll have to read through your posts to see what's new with you.

Fall is a very energetic time for me, too, BERYL. AND, I am a "Fall" Season (Remember "Color Me Beautiful" anyone?) and love to wear Fall colors.

Hugs for all my Team.

When you arise in the morning,

give thanks for the morning light, for your life and strength.

Give thanks for your food and the joy of living.

If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies in yourself.

Good morning Team! Sunny and cool today. At noon I'm heading over to the studio/gallery where I take classes to help my instructor hang the new show. It's works from friends of hers, photos and paintings. This is going to be a busy week, I think...mom has dr. appts, of course there's pilates and painting classes (I started a new pastel on Wed. and so far so good...but that leaves a lot of opportunity to mess it up), the yard work I didn't get done, putting the deck stuff away, pool closing and the list goes on...
LORI, yes, bringing in little bugs can be a problem. I usually rinse the plants off well and watch carefully for the first couple of weeks for any who might have stowed away in the dirt. (and that's one of the reasons that I don't have many plants that come in for the winter, the other being I only have a couple of plant friendly windows)
BERYL, I finally dropped my comforters off at the cleaners and last night I wish I had one on my bed, quite chilly. I can't believe that Rosh Hashana is this close already. Unbelievable how fast this year is going. The old saying...Time flies when you're having fun...
emoticon
Hoping all my west coast teamies get a break in the weather.

Happy Sunday ladies!
Cold? I'm wearing my bathrobe this morning!! Slept with blankets! It's GLORIOUS!!! Fall is my absolute favorite season. Just feels like a renewal to me.
Need to get blinds for the living room/dining room. Thought we had them yesterday, but not thrilled, so no. I wanted plantation blinds, but cost will be an issue, so regular wooden ones will work. I saw fabric ones I liked, but DH thought they looked too "rec room" and he's probably right. DD wanted us to go to Longwood with her and Jo, but I have to get these windows covered. I"m on a time crunch here since Rosh Hashana is in less than 2 weeks and my cooking for company has to be done, and I want the house to look nice. So Longwood will wait. It's not going anywhere!
Hopng to bike ride before off to shopping. Have a good day team! emoticon

Hello Team,

Hot and yucky out here. Tonight DH and I went to se A Dolphin Tale 2, it was really good, we enjoyed it.

Yes, Beryl, we are going in September 2015. We will be taking the Disney Cruise to the Western Caribbean. We will stop in Jamaica, that is where DH and I had our honeymoon. So, needless to say we are excited and happy.

Tonight my ear is terrible again. I just took more B12 and am hoping it will go away again.

Peg and Kellie, I cannot believe it is cold out by you. Just a question, when you bring your plants in, don't the little gnats come it too? I bought to small pots of baby roses from Trader Joes today, so very pretty.

Let's all have an awesome Sunday, ~hugs, Lori

Good early afternoon ladies! Gray and cool here. I LOVE IT!!
Did a short 40 minute walk before WI--stayed the same. Least it's not a gain.
Kel, I'm so happy to hear you took a day off! Don't worry about the weight. You know it'll come off.
Peg, sorry you didn't get to use the pool more this summer. Are you reading anything good now?
I have so many tomatoes from my plants! I boiled some water and took the skin off a dozen or so, and will freeze them. Has anyone successfully done that? THen I can use them in my tomato sauce or other cooked foods.
Off to have lunch and take my Saturday siesta! Have a good day

Good morning Team! A lot cooler here and my heat actually came on for a bit. So, I just mailed out the down payment for the new furnace.
BERYL, I went outside a couple of times last night but didn't see anything. The sky may have looked a little lighter, but nothing more than that.
LORI, sorry DS was "in a mood", but at last you were able to see DGS play.
KELLIE, sid is one lucky kitty (and so is his soon to be chosen sibling). I'm thinking about bringing in the cacti and baby lemon trees that I have in pots and were outside for the summer. I don't think they like cold nights.
Oh man, furnace turning on, bringing plants in and the pool closing on Thurs...you know what this means ladies... emoticon emoticon and then emoticon ...sigh
DR SUE, still no foaming? good!
Hi NICKY and furnitureless HEIDI.

Hello Team,

I spent yesterday with my DS and DGS. DGS had a soccer practice and I wanted to be there in person. My son was in a mood, ugh, but it was great seeing my DGS.

Dr. Sue, yea, about not foaming at the mouth, lol.

I'm doing NOTHING this weekend but resting and gardening, way too hot out there.

I hope that everyone has a wonderful and relaxing weekend, Lori

p.s. I forgot to tell you that my brother and sister-in-law, are on a Disney Cruise to the Panama Canal. They are being diverted from two ports as there is a possible hurricane growing, in Mexican seas, called Tropical Storm Odile. I'm both excited for them and scared at the same time

TGIF team! Sorry, busier than a one armed paperhanger today. First time I've had a chance to post.
Peg and Lori, I did read the EW recap of SOA, and watched the aftershow online. I LOVE listening to Jax talk! He sounds so refined. lol I will watch it though.
NOthing going on this weekend. Supermarket after work, then zumba, then HOME!! Can't wait!
Hope everyone is well. Thanks for the information about the northern lights Peg. I'll try and remember to look too!

Happy Friday Team! What a gorgeous day! Went for a bike ride with ex-hubs and my pilates instructor. I was really beautiful (and a little chilly)
Hoping everyone is well. Just heard that we on the east coast may be able to see the northern lights tonight. Now I just need to remember to go outside and look. Off to work in the yard, but first will watch a little of the Yankees game.

Good morning Team! Woke up to gray skies and light rain so no working in the yard this morning. Pilates at noon.
emoticon to HEIDI!
DR SUE, glad all of you should be fine. Dare I ask what happened to the kitten?
BERYL, just know that SOA lives up to it's bloody grusomeness standards. DM does still drive, very rarely, but yes, she still has her car. DB and I will be on the same page.
LORI, wonderful that you may have found something that works for your ear. Glad to hear that your gardens are doing well.
Hoping all have a good day. and yes, it is "that date". Remembering all.

Good morning! I'm not yet frothing at the mouth. Seriously, the state vet said we are good. The kitten may have been shedding but was not symptomatic. None of us were bitten scratched, had facial contact or as I say, licked the kitten. We are not advised to get boosted. I did talk to my high school kid's mom telling her all this. I did recommend that if her daughter is really considering vet school, they may want to consider getting her the vaccine series. I will be making sure to get my rabies titer with my bloods next month.

I have just realized the date. I don't think I can say any more. Be safe and remember what we have.

Hello Team,

Beryl, I, too, thought a new grand baby. You are either fooling us all or it really is a vacation. Sorry about your extremely busy days.

Peg, I watched them both this morning, I posted on our SOA chat. I do hope that you and DB will be on the same page about DM.

Dr. Sue, that is terrible news. I didn't know that there was a Rabies vaccine for humans. I do hope that you all suffer NONE from this.

It's been way too hot here, Yuck. I have tended to both my front and back gardens and they are looking pretty darn good, if I do say so myself.

I'm doing pretty well, tomorrow is my last day of Omni. I will try to limit my bad carbs in the future but will indulge on things that I crave, just to a minimum. When I was on the actual drops, 21 days, my ear cleared up, I was so super happy and then when I stopped them my ear flared up to a roar. I did some research online and found that B12 and Manganese are vital in clearing up my ear and the Omni drops had lots of B12, so today I went to Sprouts and bought some B12 drops. Let's all keep our fingers crossed that I may have found my solution.

~hugs to all, Lori

Peg, good for you for planning a meeting with the doctor and DB. I will warn you--they're very hard to pin down and reluctant to make decisions on anything. I dont think your DM drives, so that's a big thing you don't have to (hopefully) deal with. Are you and DB on the same page about things usually?
I did not see SOA or the aftershow, and it about killed me! I will plan to watch it every week on demand.Getting up at 6 is not conducive to staying up late. Even me! Way too old for that.
Have a good evening ladies. Hope everyone is well. emoticon

Oh DR SUE, terrible news about the rabies. As BERYL said, they should have known better. No I have never been there but will take down the info and add to things I want to do/places I want to go. As for manure in the garden.....is it aged? (is that too personal?...lol) I generally dump a couple of bags in during planting as well as compost and just mix it in together. Actually, I usually just put it where I am planting; don't see any reason to give the weeds a treat.
The trail to the top of the falls is accessed from the road leading to North-South Lakes in Greene County (Haines Falls, I think). It was a very easy trail. The trail up from the bottom is accessed from Rt 23A, also in Greene County, heading down from Haines Falls toward Palenville, not as easy.
BERYL, my $ is on an addition to the family...that changes ALL future plans. Your day sounds terribly busy and not in a good way. Did you catch SOA and the after show program?
The highlight for today was my pastels class. This morning was filled with "mama drama" and her dementia (I hesitate to use a medical word imprecisely) is accelerating. Don't know what we will do. Made sure DB is in the loop and want to sit down with DB and mom's dr. to have a frank discussion about what to expect and what to do at what point....fun times ahead, I'm afraid.
Weather has been beautiful and I definitely need to do yard/garden clean-up. I think that will be on the list for tomorrow morning.
Hope all have enjoyed their day.
Can you believe it? 7:30 and it's dark! emoticon

I have to be cryptic--bad luck to discuss things before they're official. And planning next year's big vacation, going to part time work--all are things that are affected...
Poor kid. That shelter should know better.

Beryl, you are being too cryptic for me. My initial thought was new grand baby, but the vaca thing threw me.
As far as my staff and I go, I will be calling the state veterinarian shortly. Most of us are vaccinated, so we would need only boosters. We do have a new high school kid who might need to go through post exposure. I could kick myself for that. I never thought a shelter would foster out a kitten that had a true wound when found. It should of been quarantined for 6 months in the shelter.
Going to make that call now.

Good Hump Day team!
DrSue--what does that mean to you and your staff? Must you take the rabies shots?? OMG, please let me know.I'm sort of hysterical thinking of you all.
Loooong days. 2 meetings after work yesterday, then zumba--not home till 7:30. Tonight is hair cut after work, then dance fusion, then home to make stir fry for dinner. Tomorrow is teaching. Not home till 8:30. Hopefully this week is an outlier. I hate it.
So DD2 told us some "exciting" news--can't really say yet--only that she and DHs plans for vacation next year, and everything--will be changed. I keep saying ''Not my circus, not my monkeys" but when it's your kids.....you guys know how that goes.
Off to work. Have a great day ladies! Be well! emoticon

Oh Beryl, I love Longwood Gardens. Some of my Grandmother's art was there. I never did find it when I was there. However, I was younger shy and never asked. Peg, if you haven't been there, it is worth the drive. The large animal Hospital for Penn is in Kennett Sq. So I spent a lot of time there. Also worth it if they do an open house.

Peg that hike sounds awesome! Where is it? I did some fall garden work yesterday. Ugh! I love the weather, I'm just not ready for what comes next. How much manure do you add to a flower bed that needs it badly?

Lori back pain foes stink. We inherited a new chair, an it is soo good for my back. It confirmed the beat up old couch was part of my problem.

Nicky, I have the fitbit Zip and I use it in conjunction with myfitnesspal and runkeeper. MFP has been my tracker for years. So I track my exercise and food on MFP, once you connect MFP to the fitbit, you have to record the time of your workout. So if I wear my fitbit when I spin the fitbit will count my movements as steps, then I tell it that at that time those steps were spinning from say 7-8am it grants me the steps, but counts the calories for the spin. In other words no double dipping. At the end of the day, MFP makes an estimate of your burned calories, fitbit is more accurate so it tells MFP how many steps an how active they were and adjusts accordingly. So sometimes it looks like I walked 15,000 step and earned a fitbit adjustment of 300 cal, but when I wake up and check it it has downgraded to 30 or 0. Again no double dipping. As they say, we always underestimate what we eat, and over estimate our exercise. So this helps on that front. The fit bit is way more accurate than any pedometer I have had.
I use runkeeper which is similar to mapmywalk. I use it for long walks and my bike rides. It also links into MFP and fitbit. However, when I do those big exercise events the most accurate tool, by far is my HRM. Especially for walking and running. Only the HRM is going to be accurate when you are going up and down hills. Interesting is when I bike, my HRM and runkeeper are almost the same-like within 10-20 calories.

On your other note, I guess I didn't follow what happened to the Dobe to lead to infection and amputation. (Not to mention $26,000 dollars)

On a less happy note, it turns out some of my staff and I have been exposed to Rabies due to an idiotic shelter. So if I start foaming at the mouth I've got a good excuse for a change.

Have a great day everyone!

Hello Team,

Dr. Sue you rock, amazing.

Kellie, great job on packing and tracking.

My Beryl, I have lower back pain too. We purchased our sofa, love seat and recliner a couple of years ago. I, too, thought that all the recliners, 2 in the sofa, 2 in the love seat and one stand alone recliner, would help me and my back but to no avail. My back and Costochronditis flares up whenever I sit on them, sadly.

Peg, thank you for all the garden tips and sharing your water colors with us.

Nicky, Hello, how is Guenther doing?

I went to meet my DD2 for dinner and we had a great time.

~hugs, Lori

Got a chance to catch up on your posts. I'm still unsure as to what state HEIDI is moving. VA?
It's a mixed blessing to separate from the military, but they sure had some wonderful adventures. I think she started posting when she was in Germany.
It will be great for DS, though, to be settled in one home.

I wonder if antibiotics can cause tiredness? I will have taken full-spectrum for 30 days on Friday. I refuse to take any more. I haven't taken ANY prescription medication in all of my adult years and was talked into taking these because of a little eye infection in my lower inner eyelid. I use antibiotic drops, too, and the little pimple thing is still there, although not infected any more.
I'm forcing myself to get a little exercise in and walk Gunther.
Sorry. I had to do the woe-is-me thing for a minute.

Good for you, DRSUE!! I discovered (a little late) an App called MapMyWalk. One feature is dog walk, and it uses GPS, so I guess it's fairly accurate------a little more accurate than my Omron pedometer, I would think. It's really fun. There is a step measure function, but I don't know how it works.
What is the model of FITBIT that you are using? Do you check your steps with your phone?

Gunther and I met up with a Doberman today whose toes had been amputated on the front leg. The young man who was walking him said they wanted to amputate the leg, but she was only six months old, so he spent every dime he had ($26,000) to get her fixed. He said he is suing the first vet for malpractice; seems he tried to "hide" the infection. There are angels on this earth, and he is definitely one of them.

KELLIE, do you get writer's block from time to time?

Black tie event coming up in November, so I'm back OP with a vengeance. Sure would love to shed those last vanity pounds. I ordered a black dress and will have it to spur me on.

When you arise in the morning,

give thanks for the morning light, for your life and strength.

Give thanks for your food and the joy of living.

If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies in yourself.

Good Monday afternoon all.
These kids are trying to kill me, I swear. lol Since 7:15 this morning. They're going home soon. And Monday will be over.
26000 steps?? And biking??Wow. I'm exhausted.
Yes, DrSue, it was the Kennett Square Mushroom festival. We don't like the Chaddsford Winery--there's a small local one right behind Longwood Gardens--Galer Estates--that has wonderful wines, and it just so nice and friendly, so that's where we went.
Have a good afternoon!

Good afternoon Team!
Another beautiful day and I just came back in from mowing. I need to do a lot of garden cleanup...cutting back the plants that are finished and deadheading others. This afternoon is watercolors class, too.
Sorry about your back, BERYL. I have furniture that turned out to be not as comfortable as anticipated (and it's not like you can try it out at the store by watching a 2 hour movie). I've noticed that it is dark later in the morning and earlier at night. By 8 pm it's dark.
DR SUE, I'm a little leery about the snakes when I'm out now. Yesterday's hike was by Kaaterskill Falls (not at their glory right now because of the lack of rain, I'm afraid) which have huge rocks and I was keeping an eye on what might be under those rocks. Saw only a water snake in a little puddle in a stream, thankfully. Interestingly, on the stone slabs were carvings, some from the mid 1800s, sort of like at Overlook. Amazing that people would take the time to chisel out names and dates. There are new warning signs at the top of the falls due to two fatalities there this spring. There is a trail that accesses the falls from the bottom. They're quite famous as a painting subject, particularly by those who were in the Hudson River School (Thomas Cole, Frederic Church, etc). 26,000+...that's a lot of steps!
Wishing everyone a great day.

Peg

Good Monday team. I had a crazy week, and a pretty good weekend! Yesterday I did a 12 mike bike ride, a five mile walk with Q and friends. More walking, per my fitbit, I walked over 26,000 steps which amounted to greater than 10 miles! Ate well within my budget.

Beryl, that stinks about your back, I hope it feels better. I hear you on the furniture, because sitting certain ways sets of the pain in my piriformis muscle. Was it the Kennett Sq mushroom festival? Chad's Ford winery?

Peg, we had HHH here through Sat, then incredible thunder storms cleared out the air. Q and I ran into a bear when out walking. We have not had big rattlesnake issues at the camp but you had said there were increased reports of them in the Catskills. I am considering the shot for Q. We definitely do not have majave green rattlers here or there!

Nicky your experience scared the heck out of me thus, my last sentence. Sounds like you have more work with Gunther!

Kellie I would have sent you two boys! Not sure how you feel about black cats. I know you have a thing for oranges! Great on the loss.

Heidi, good luck with the move. Where is the property? NC or Va, or other? When do you move?

Lori good on the new plants. Enjoy them!

Lori, glad that you are enjoying the garden! Aww thanks for the kudos, he’s a sweet little boy. It is very hot here as well! Stay cool.

Beryl, Wow, you will have to share the recipe  Ikea always has great stuff – I love to shop there and their food is great too – lol

Hi team, I packed and tracked everything. I’ve been counting points and scanning with MFP – I am trying to keep a lot on the eating so I don’t have to kill myself working out – I need some energy to write for school.

Heading over to Temple to see my advisor – I’ll get some steps in – have a great day, Kellie

Good morning team. Dressed and ready to go to work even though it's dark. UGH
Fun weekend. Yesterday DH and DS went to the mushroom festival. Had a great time. Then went to the little winery we love near there and had a lovely afternoon. Then home to my tortilla casserole dinner. DS, the chef, even took home the leftovers! He never takes anything home!
Did zumba yesterday and really enjoyed it. TOday my back hurts. We got new LR furniture that initially feels wonderful on my back--oversized armless chairs that arne't too soft, and sort of rocky adirondack looking ones, both from Ikea. They feel good, but then my back hurts. THat doesn't bode well for the next 10 years we'll have them!! lol
Yay for losing a pound and getting Sid, Kellie!!
Peg, I'd have died had I seen real bears where I was. I get hysterical at squirrels!
Have a great day team! emoticon

Good afternoon team! A beautiful day here today.
KELLIE, congrats on the loss and successful tracking and most important....on Sid!
LORI, there are great deals to had in the plant world this time of year. This is a great time to plants shrubs and perennials around here....enough time for them to establish themselves and yet not the brutal heat and stressors of summer.
Took a ride this afternoon and did some short hikes. While driving, two bears crossed the road right in front of us. The larger was probably 250 - 300 lbs. They're usually active this time of year and an early hunting season started yesterday so I'm sure having people in the woods, hunting and hiking, helped to move them around.
Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend.

Hi ladies, happy Sunday - it is a day of school work and resting here at home.

Tom and i got a little kitty - his name is sid. A little love - 10 weeks old and very happy - he is a rescue. He's much too small to be left out so we've made the middle room his - he's got 12 years of cat toys, mostly new and unopened! He's having a great time, We might get a second to keep him company, i'm not sure Mango will take to him and he needs a buddy. In time they will work it all out.

Went to the ww meeting and lost about a pound. The double tracking with the old WW program and MFP is working. I am going to do my very best to attend saturday meetings until i get the last few off.

Heidi, i am thrilled to hear from you - i wish you the best of luck with the move and new home - it seems all exciting - i hope you can enjoy it some. To retire from the military with a career is an accomplishment - you look great in your picture. Happy early birthday!

Hello Team,

HOT, HOT, HOT here, yuck. DH and I went to Lowes and they had the most beautiful $5.00 plants. Yes they needed some TLC and pruning and now they are beautiful. We also went to see Guardians of the Galaxy, it was extremely entertaining.

Wow, Peg so much to do each day and in this heat.

My Beryl, What is DD1 doing in Uganda? I'm glad that you were able to face time Jo and DD1

Hugs all, Lori

Good evening team. Those 3Hs are here, too. DGS had a doubleheader (fall ball baseball) today and it was very hot. Periodically clouds would move in and then there would be a breeze and that was a lifesaver. His team did well. In fact they were shortened games, 5 innings each, because of the 10 run rule. Even with that, we sat there nearly 5 hours. Severe storm warnings around until 9 pm. I'm looking forward to some nicer weather, too.
BERYL, it is pretty amazing what we can do now and what was only a dream or the stuff of science fiction when we were little. When I think of the changes my grandmother saw over her 96 years and now think what has happened in our lifetimes, it borders on unbelievable. Remember how large the first mobile phones were? They traveled in their own little suitcases. Enjoy the mushroom festival.
LORI, glad the grandbabies are doing well with school. DGS started 5th grade and (so far) likes his teacher. I think DD1 is having as hard a time as he is getting back into the routine.
Hoping everyone is doing well and enjoying the weekend.

Happy Saturday team. Hope all is well.
HH&H here again today. Tomorrow is supposed to feel completely different. I hope so! This weekend is a huge arts festival plus the mushroom festival. DH and I will go to the mushroom festival tomorrow.I have no desire to walk out in the heat anywhere today.
Did bike ride today. Walked yesterday. Didn't even woggle. And finally, after 3 weeks of gains, am down .8 Coincidence?? I don't know. Wish I knew why this back hurts so darn bad!
Missing Josephine, who is at the beach. I did facetime with her. She's extremely busy on the adirondack chair on the porch. lol. On, off, up, down...very busy. And DD1 is in Uganda, so facetimed with her too.
Who'd have thunk we could not only talk, but SEE folks half a world away?! Like the Jetsons!
Off to my Saturday read/nap. Have a good day! emoticon

Hello Team,

Okay, Heidi, got it. Wow, this move sounds like the best, that is after Germany. What will Chris do now after his medical retirement.

Peg, Yes 3 out of 4 of my grand babies are now in school. One 1st, one 2nd, one 3rd. The big Boy, 4 this month is not in school. They all seem to be happy, yes. I like your schedule, especially the Master's Gardener part.

Hello my Beryl, Dr. Sue, Nicky and Kellie.

~hugs, Lori

Hello, my pretties :)
To clear up confusIon, DH is being medically retired from the Army. We are just moving back to the East coast but we still get the benefits from the military of one last move. We have decided to move to his brothers house to rent and build our own house on our land next year. His brother doesn't live in the house and it's right across from our land so we'd be there only until or house is finished. My brother will be building.
So you are not losing your minds girls :)

Good morning Team. Another beautiful day but I think the 3Hs are coming back.
NICKY, I totally understand your fear. I have not had the experience you did, but I am always anxious about snakes or bears when hiking, especially during dry periods. I have been creeped out more than once by the feeling that something was watching and I think it was a bear. Didn't help that I was hiking through a huge patch of wild blueberry bushes.
LORI, I, too, thought that Chris was leaving the Army and they were going to NC. Now, I'm not sure and per fb, looks like they're going to VA. Your grandbabies are school age? If so, how did they make out. Around here schools started yesterday, with some starting today.
DR SUE, congrats to DH on being invited to participate in the race. Is there a weight limit on the boat or some other reason he needs to lose? It's Thursday so maybe today will be a little calmer.
BERYL, hope class goes/went well. Back pain is a..well...pain in the a$$. Feel better.
KELLIE, I guess you will just have to make the supreme sacrifice and eat those delicious meatballs yourself. It's a tough job, but someone....you know.
Took Ruby to the vet for her shots, next up is pilates, then lunch with a friend and then the gardeners' monthly meeting at a nearby marina. Busy day. Tomorrow morning my pastels instructor is holding a plein air class at a local farm/orchard and I'm planning to go. Tonight I'll have to organize and minimize my supplies. My coffee travel cup has disappeared so I may have to get one today. Can't go paint without my coffee! emoticon and me after my coffee emoticon .

Hello Team,

Nicky I understand your fear and it is very logical. I'm sorry that Guenther was a bad boy. I hope you had fun at the party. Oh, yes, it is unbearably hot, but the nights are cooling down.

Dr. Sue, great news for DH and great that he can lose those 7 pounds, if only he was willing.

Kellie, sorry about the hectic week and the turkey meatballs. I find it too sad to go to the shelters or pet shops for that matter. I am unable to see cats/kittens in cages:( My grand babies are doing well and thank you for asking.

My Beryl, I'm so sorry about your back, I'm right there with you and it is miserable.

Heidi, I forgot where and when your new post is. I thought that Chris was leaving the Army. We will keep in touch through FB. I think I remember that you had a very difficult time when you moved from Germany too. You look great by the way.

BERYL, it's back to school already? Where has the summer gone? Back trouble is the pits. Sounds like you're taking it easy, and that's the only way to resolve that. Massage? Hanging? That didn't sound right. I meant "hanging" on a Teeter. Lordy, I love my Teeter.

I'm back in town and can't remember when I've ever been so tired. Our "ranch" (haha) is at the base of the Sequoias at about 4,000ft. It's not high desert, but we still get rattle snakes and coyotes and mountain lions, as well as bear and deer. It's mostly pines and California oaks. It has been so dry because of the drought that the bears have been coming down and breaking into houses. My neighbors warned me not to go on my long walks and hikes, even on the paved roads.

I'm still so afraid of rattlesnakes now that I really wasn't planning on hiking much, BUT, I've run into a bear with my dogs many years ago, and it was terrifying. Any way, I stayed inside most of the time we were there. I practiced yoga to a video one day, and that's about it.

Gunther was a naughty boy at the ranchers' party. I had him on leash the entire time because he was jumping up on the food table and wandering off to visit with the horses. I am fairly sure Gunther had never been around horses before, and he sure isn't country savvy, either. He woke me up several times in the night; I ended up sleeping in the kids' bunk room with him so he wouldn't bother DH. Had to come home to get rest! Ha!

I take it HEIDI is moving yet again but staying in the States? Please tell her that NICKY wishes her a great adventure. These are sure to be the best times to remember. When I think about moving from this house where I've lived since 1973, I get the vapors.

DRSUE, when is DH's event? I'm not clear why he has to lose 7lbs. Is that to make total weight of the crew, or something?
We went to the country vet up near our ranch(haha) to get Gunther's rattlesnake shot-----or not-----depending on what she thought of the vaccine in the first place after she heard the story of Bryce's attack.
She said that the vaccine USUALLY is effective, but there are many variables---where the animal was bitten, if the animal is allergic, and stuff like that. She also said that if Bryce was bitten by a Mojave Green Rattlesnake, he would not have lived, regardless of the shot.
She's seen dogs bitten right on the face; they're faces blew up, yet they survived without anti-venom; others have died within minutes.

My eye doctor told me today that he nearly stepped on a rattlesnake a couple of weeks ago hiking in the Santa Monica Mountains right near where Bryce and I were.
I'm officially fearful. I used to just be alert and rational. Now I have and irrational fear and flashbacks. What we put ourselves through. Crazy.

LORI, sure hope you're on the mend and had a good weekend. I'll bet it was plenty hot out where you are.

PEG, I'll need to catch up to see what picture we're waiting for.

When you arise in the morning,

give thanks for the morning light, for your life and strength.

Give thanks for your food and the joy of living.

If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies in yourself.

Peg, can't wait to see a picture.
DrSue, sorry today was a WTF Wednesday. That risotto sounds delicious. Oh my. I'd have a hard time with portion control, for sure.
Back really really bothering me. Not sure why.DIdn't go to Dance Fusion tonight but took a short walk pushing Jo. Still hurt, but took something and it feels better.
Class starts tomorrow night so won't exercise then.
Heidi, we're behind you! This is such a new exciting time in your lives. It will all get done. We'll be following you on FB!

GOOD LUCK HEIDI! See you soon!

We had a major downpour yesterday and it did clear out some of the humidity. Today was hot, not miserable and the yard was lovely for lunch. Another WTF Wed. Looked quiet, was not, came home exhausted. I had a cooking therapy session with things I needed to use. I did a lobster and shrimp risotto with tomato and asparagus. It came out great and I did the recipe, 202 cal/ cup.

DH got invited to go to Mallory cup again. That is the men's racing one design national championship. So how it works is the best sailors from each region do elimnations. Different clubs, different classes of boats at each level. The winner of each region goes to the finals. The winner in our area this year bagged out. So a previous champion from our area was asked if he wanted to take the slot. He had won the gold in 2002, and took bronze in 2011 with DH as crew. Soooo, now DH needs to get serious about dropping 7 lbs in 3 weeks. Easy for a man, but I have been trying to make him "get it" for a while. He has NO concept of portion control. I'm sure he will make, and I'll still be oak ing, tracking and floundering emoticon

Good evening Team!
We got hardly any rain yesterday, but today is a beautiful day...sunny with low humidity. The past couple of days, brutal.
Good luck, HEIDI!
Hoping everyone can stay cool.
Went to pastels today and finished a painting I've been working on off and on for several weeks. I'm quite pleased with it which is unusual for me. Once I take a pic,I'll post it.
KELLIE, enjoy the shelter. It's always hard to choose, but somehow, the right one always chooses us!
A big hello to BERYL, NICKY, DR SUE, LORI and all who drop by.

Hello Team,
Stopping by with limited time to give an update on me, then I won't be posting for quite some time. You can keep updated on me through Beryl, Lori, Peg, whoever has FB for the time being.
Our orders came in yesterday and within the next week my life with be a cyclone of upheaval. The packers come Weds, next week and movers on Fri. We are hoping to get the house cleaned to realty standards (OMG!!!!) by the 14th, carpet cleaners on 15th, Inspection the evening of 15th and leave across country on the 16th. Nothing says that will actually happen that way, but we're hoping. We will be stopping in NE and then TN to visit family, and arriving in VA by the end of the month or beginning of Oct.
I can't tell you the stress I'm under. I have never in my life had so much anxiety, not even with any other PCS move. Maybe because I'm older now? I'll be 40 on 9/11, and not dreading it. I don't feel 40 at all, and so it doesn't bother me one bit.
Anyway, I will let this be my goodbye for a while, as if I've even been here much. Ha.
Stay on course, stay strong, and I'll see you again.
Heidi

Good Wednesday morning team. Still hot and humid--the nasty storms we had last night didn't cool things off so much. Still cloudy today, so at least we're spared the hot sun.
Kellie--warm banana anything sounds like heaven! And I never do dessert. I'm not a baker at all. That's way more work than I'm willing to do! Your meals always sound amazing.

And so a NSV of sorts! I’m designing a menu for an event and I left off desserts entirely! Then made warm bread banana pie something like warm banana crust (which would be a WW recipe – lol) That was my crazy week with computer issues! I say a loss is in order.
DH did not like the turkey meat balls this week – it’s a rarity that he does not like my meals I added too much parsley. With some spice, I’ll eat them all. LOL. Can’t win them all

Beryl, wow the baby must have been sleepy ! Hot office, you’ll have to get a fan. Great job on all your meals.

Lori, stay cool! How are the grandkids?

Dr. Sue, how do you keep the pets all cool?
We are visiting an animal shelter Sat. There’s a few little ones. We’ll see. I keep thinking of all the memories of when my guys were little. It makes me happy.

Have a great day!

Morning all, I only have a moment, but I'm letting you know I'm still here! I caught up with all your posts. I was not terribly good over the long weekend. Lots of walking, but it seemed to be raining cocktails everywhere I went. It has been very HHH here. I will say that yesterday was the only day this summer that I elected to take the car instead of walking home mid day due to the heat. Have a great day, I have to dash to get ready for work!

Kellie, great job on cooking, packing and tracking.

Peg, I'm like you, I can't do white.

Well I'm signing off for the night, hugs to all, Lori

BERYL, isn't that awesome! I can't believe someone can do that with pastels. Although this artist is in Germany and can't be a part of the PSA show, that is the caliber of work that will be exhibited. (and it's never too early for drama...btw)

Big news!!! SOA comes back on next Tuesday.

Went to the gym and only did 40 minutes on the bike before I had to go. Saw Josephine on the baby playground and she screamed and threw herself down on the ground when I didnt' take her. Apparently my DD came not 30 seconds after me and said she was fine.
Drama Queen at 13 months?? I think so...
Marinating lean beef cubes to be grilled. I have farro and roasted green beans. Can't wait. Have to make dinner for tomorrow too since I'll pick Jo up from daycare and then go to the gym. Making fish, sweet potatoes, and salad. Easy.
Unbelievable here--95. HH&H. THere's a cold front coming through tonight and it will help it be more comfortable. My office, with it's wonderful 2 walls of windows, is like an oven. The afternoon sun beats right in on me. But I have WINDOWS!! I love them more than the sun bothers me.
Peg, that pic you posted on FB is just unbelievable. I'd swear it was a picture. Swear on a stack of Bibles.

Good morning Team and welcome to July in Sept.! It is brutal and remember how wet it was earlier this year...not any more. Streams and reservoirs are low and my grass is crispy in places.
Pilates this morning and my monthly massage this afternoon. Am finally getting my art stuff organized and put away on the shelves I installed...has only taken me a couple of weeks, but what's the hurry, right?
BERYL, good luck with the class, hoping you have a great group of students. Glad you're pleased with the new living room...I could never do white; I am such a klutz, not to mention the animals with whom I share my house.
KELLIE, way to go on the cook, pack and track.
LORI, I always intend (and we know what they say about good intentions) to cut sugar out, but it seems impossible to me. Am trying to satisfy my cravings with fruit.
Hoping DR SUE, NICKY and HEIDI had a good weekend.
Have a great day!

Good morning ladies. Hot and humid today. Hard to breathe and the car windows were all fogged up!
Our Y reopens today. YAY!!
New furniture all up and put together. It's very white! Got Josephine her own little chair like ours and she thinks it's a slide. lol Had fun with her last night. DD is exhausted--she's off all week and they're going to the beach Thursday-Tuesday.
I start teaching again Thursday. Looking forward to the money but not the class.....least it's one I like teaching. Just makes for a long day.
Feeling bloated today. I hate that feeling. And of course the scale is up...Didn't think I did too bad this weekend. Stayed within my points and did exercise. Long as we keep on doing what we need to, the weight will follow. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!
Have a great day ladies, and keep cool!! emoticon

Hey power came on - weird night and it went off about an hour ago. Made point friendly turkey meatballs, chicken Parmesan, Chana masala and a roast for Tom for the week. I cooked last weekend and that really helped me with my time not having to cook after work!

Lori, your plan with the plants sounds wonderful :) sounds like the diet is going ok for you - you've been staying on plan and exercising

Beryl, drama at the wine place! Glad you found a low key place!

Peg, I know what you mean about art organizations - they can be funny! Your work is amazing - I love it!

It is so hot - sticky and muggy -  Overall lots of rest this three day weekend

:) - double tracked today - counting calories and points - I'm ready to get rid of the extra

Have a great day - hello to all

Hello Team,

Kellie, my plants survive the winter, yet for the couple of days of freezing. I will cover then all with plastic, when that time comes. So glad that you had a nice time with your friends. I do hope that your kitty gets much better.

Beryl, I'd love to go to wineries, so would my DH. There just aren't any close to us. I do hope that you enjoyed your time with DD and Jo.

Peg, great job of ridding your house of sweets. I've not had any sugar for the 5 weeks on Omni, just stevia and trivia.

Hello Dr. Sue, Nicky and Heidi.

~hugs, Lori

Good morning team. Getting ready to go for a walk with DH. Breakfast for the week made, working on lunches. DD2 and Josephine coming for dinner tonight. Nothing special--hot dogs (and tofu pups), corn, and salad.
The wineries (minus the whinery) was fun. Found great wines. Everyone there is so pleasant--everythng is there to enjoy themselves, and each other. No drama, no nastiness, I think that's why we enjoy it there.
Yay for recommiting Peg. I hear you. I am working on my quantities now. I need to measure things. My eyeballs are NOT good measures.
Kellie, you're on it! Those few pounds will come off. I know you love Indian food. I'm just not a fan. There's something in there I don't enjoy--a spice or something.
Lori, hope the day was fun!
Hi DrSue, Nicky, and Heidi. Hope to hear from you.
Have a good day ladies!

Good morning Team...the three "Hs" are back, but at least our storms were not severe yesterday.
KELLIE, the dinner sounds delish. I like Indian food. Not only do I not have anything in the show; I'm not even a member and doubt that I will ever rise to the level to be accepted. Good for you getting back to the packing and tracking.
LORI, Happy Birthday to the girls! Enjoy the day.
BERYL, the wineries sound like fun (except of course for the "meh" one. Maybe they should change their name?)
Hi DR SUE, NICKY (just read in the paper that on one of our local hiking trails a dog (on a leash) was bitten by a rattlesnake twice and sadly, died. We have copperheads and rattlers around here and when it gets dry like it has, they tend to move into different areas), and HEIDI.
Hoping all are enjoying today. Today is the beginning of a new month and I am recommitting (or maybe someone should just commit me). Went through the fridge and tossed the bags of choc (and butterscotch and white and dark) chips out. Visited my favorite farm stand yesterday and bought some apples (yes, it's that time again), nectarines and veggies.

Hi Ladies, I went to my monthly WI and I’m about 5 to 7 over where I need to be. It’s been a hard month with work and the little kitty, but I will make a plan and stick to it. I went shopping and planned out all my meals and have been cooking (crock pot) while I am working.

Dr. Sue, That’s exciting that you have a museum next door! The photographer Ansel Adams is amazing!

Peg, the pastel show sounds amazing. Will you have any work on display? Sorry about the mom drama.

Lori, what will you do with your plants during the off season there – I would imagine they keep going?

Beryl, are you going to WW every week for the meeting?

We went to our friend’s house last night for dinner and it was an Indian BBQ. I had corn, roasted veggies, chicken and masala. It was delicious. This was one of tom’s coworkers. Great conservation and learning about the Indian culture. Good stuff. We then went for coffee to meet two friends today – it was her birthday, so I got her Sun flowers and a nice card. I’ve been doing some writing for school…hope to get a good walk in later. Have a great evening!

Hello Team,

It is so darn hot today, I absolutely hate it. Everything is going well. Just wanted to check in and wish you all a great Sunday. Sunday is both of my daughter's bday. We'll be spending the day with DD2.

~hugs to all, Lori
