Good evening Team.
BERYL, looks like you and I are the only "weekenders". The vegan cooking sounds like fun and the wine tasting, even fun-ner. I am bothered when presenters at some event (like cooking) begin preaching and on their "soapbox". Went to a concert a few years ago and the lead singer started "preaching". I'm sorry, I paid to listen to music. If I wanted to listen to political views, I would have gone to an event billed as such. I don't know anything about fitbit...sorry. Will record WD. Almost don't want to watch...who else will die?
Developed a coolant leak in my car. All weekend I've been adding coolant. First thing tomorrow morning I'll call VW and try to get in. I'm uncomfortable not having a car "on demand", especially with mom being as she is. It will work out.
Happy Sunday to all!

Peg

I know, right Peg?? Awful people, we are.
Fun weekend. Fun vegan cooking class, until she started in on the whole how everything, including cancer, is poor diet related......Not cool. She did make the best potato salad ever using cashew cream instead of mayo. OMG!!
So team, gave up on my Polar. Kept saying 00 for my HR when I was jumping. Bought a fitbit. Once I figurre out how to use it, it'll be fine. lol. I do know how to turn in to n and used it today, just not sure if it resets itself daily or what? Anyone??
Wine tasting today--learned SO much! Lot of fun. Now making my soup for dinner, and cooking for Passover, and grading papers. I'm thinking WD will be On Demand, Peg....
Hope everyone on my team is having a good day!

Good Saturday night team. Long weekend so far.
You might think paying for a vacation would be a good thing, but got yelled at over and over by my mother for paying for it. Finally told her fine, we wouldn't, but then she'd have to tell my sister and brother she didn't want us to, and she hung up on me. Just shoot me. I called her back to say I didn't like how we had left things, she took that as an apology. I got none. It's been a long day....
Went to a vegan cooking class. Very good recipes, peculiar woman teaching it. Lots of inappropriate political and medical (mis) information..
Heidi, I"m so glad you are seeing an NP. Being a nurse, we look holistically at the whole person, so s/he WILL listen to you!
Peg, I hear you....
Lori...love you sister!
DrSue, sounds so much fun!!!
Hi Nicky!!
Sorry if I forgot anyone. I'm a little nuts right now!!
Have a good night team!

Good afternoon Team!
Lunch with the DDs and mom was good; the time after it at her house...well... Will go back tomorrow to pay bills.
DR SUE, sounds great! let me know the dates. Ruby and I will at least make a day trip. I look at the photos I took there 2 years ago and think what a lovely place it is.
HEIDI, I am so off kilter and out of touch with my former self; I feel your pain. I know WHAT to do, but just can't seem to make myself do it.
Hoping everyone is enjoying the weekend. Flurries here; just the universe saying that winter isn't quite yet done with us, no matter what the calendar might say.

Hello Team,

I just lost all that I posted, grrr.

Doctor visits went well. Heidi, so glad that you are being tended to. Beryl, you are a great daughter, mother and sister, not to mention friend.

Dr. Sue, so sorry that your skiing got cut short, but yay for the voucher.

Peg, love to see some of your watercolors and pastels.

Kathie, DGD went to see Cinderella too, I'm glad that you got out and enjoyed yourself.

We are going to the beach today, to walk and relax. It will be quite chilly, but beautiful.

~hugs, Lori

DRSUE, that sounds wonderful! I would love to get away from this reality for a while with girls only!

I went to get established with my new Dr here yesterday. She's really a NP, but she heard me and I feel like I might get somewhere.
She's doing a bunch of blood work, putting me on Metformin for my PCOS, RE checking my thyroid levels, sending me to ortho for my knee, which has a fluid pocket on it. Checking cholesterol, sugar, everything.
My weight is up there again and I'm ashamed too say it, but I've been feeling out of touch with myself and how to lose weight anymore lately, so I knew it would be.
Sigh. Start over.
Hopefully today will be a sunny day and I can feel it's warmth on my face.
Have a great Saturday, team.

Peg, have a good lunch with the girls. I have my vacation for May planned, perhaps you can coax (strong arm ) your brother to oversee your mom and come out with Ruby wagging to camp for a day/ overnight. Beryl you always said you were up for a road trip. My place-and you can ask Peg- is rustic at best. It is what it is.... When I check dates I can put them out. Heidi, I'm not sure where you are in Va, you could potentially hook up with Beryl and come on up. Or brave it yourself!

Today was a nutty day, but not profitable. Bummer to run like a loonie toon and look at the end
And go REALLY!

Good evening team! What a long strange week it's been...at least that's how I feel.
HEIDI, I would love to capture that feeling...heck, I'd love to feel that feeling! Would be nice if our body parts weren't such traitors.
DR SUE, I laughed at your sign of spring...mine is the opposite. I can now open the doors and put my trash cans in! They've been sitting in my driveway all winter because with the heaving ground I couldn't open the door.
BERYL...siblings...can't live with them... DB did participate by phone and the meeting went well. We have a plan. The atty told him pretty much everything I had thought and said. Guess it takes hearing it from a professional, not your sister (even one who has/had 21 years experience in the court system...lol) Sounds like a great plan to get the trip for your mother.
NICKY, I have no doubt that you will ace the hike and rock the dress. That's coming up soon, right?
Wishing everyone a good day...what remains of it.
I am so glad this is Friday! and I don't even work.
Tomorrow DD1 and DD2 want to take mom out for lunch. I'll be there, too, of course.
Good evening to all!

Today is rainy and cold whereas yesterday was in the mid 70's and I was in the warm sun most of the day. Wish it'd make up it's mind!
DRSUE, we went to the top of Mount Rainer, we drove to the peak and walked the rest of the way. My knees can't even handle a walk on flat surface now, I'd give anything to be back to hiking that mountain! We're trying to decide between building and buying, you are correct. The builder said she'd have the estimate by next week, waiting impatiently now.
KATHIE, our does sound beautiful! I wish we lived there. I knew you lived in that area because I voted for your town to be painted, but had no idea you were directly on the lake.
BERYL, DH's is so stubborn, I can't keep him off his feet. He rolled it over our stepping stones again, and he's kept it wrapped, but won't stay off it. I figure if he can walk on it, it must not be that bad. When I sprained my ankle, I was on crutches for a couple weeks. My knees on the other hand, forget about it. I wore my brace on each knee yesterday, and it helped with standing /walking, I've been Sticking to only therapy moves for leg day. I just don't know what's going on. They were doing so well before we moved, and even now, my other knee is involved. I haven't seen a Dr since being here, and today I have an appt for everything, thyroid, knees, etc.
I'll be getting it looked at soon enough.
PEG, I wish you could capture the feeling that I have when I sit in the sun after a cold winter, on canvas. That would be amazing!
NICKY, how does it feel to be on a non spa schedule again? :)
Have a great day all!

Good rainy, chilly Friday morning. Everyone sounds hopeful! Keeping all sorts of body parts crossed for everyone.
Long day yesterday--didn't get home till 8:30. At that point I had frozen yogurt and soup for dinner. Worked for me. Today is a paperwork day. I am going to sneak out at 11 for a zumba class. Strangers are staying over our house tonight to attend a family bar mitzvah this weekend. I hope the house is OK. If not, so sad... lol DH is off tomorrow, don't know what our plans are. Tomorrow DD1 is coming in and we're going to a vegan cooking class/dinner at a nearby restaurant. Sunday we have a groupon for a winery!!
DrSue, I cant' imagine doing more exercise than you do now! Based on experience, those kind of evaluations tend to be chiropractic ones....just an FYI. Enjoy your half day!!
Nicky, you will rock the climbing! Don't you have a fancy dress thing coming up?
Lori, I hope the knee injections work.
Peg, how did the meeting go?
Heidi, how does everyone feel?
Kathie, thinking good thoughts for you, as always.
Have a good day team!!

Hello again! I finally caught up with you all. In fact I chose you guys over the puzzle this morning. My big sign of spring has not been crocuses, which would be normal. Wed am, I was able to open my garage door and get my trash barrel out!! My life is so romantic, I can't stand it! emoticon

Kathie, you better be careful, you might have 2 closings at the same time and nowhere to live.
Seriously, it sounds very promising, especially the couple that looked this week. They are local, so they know what they are getting into. Fingers and toes crossed. Beryl- I'm trying to be a positive forward thinker. Perhaps Kathie can be her own next tenant in NC!

Beryl, people like your irritating student make me wish we were in a less civilized society. In Darwin's survival of the fittest, idiots like that would not make it if they had to rely on themselves. Hmm, I think I get why you and Peg are so into Zombie apocalypse shows!

Nicky, three rattlesnakes is a major yuk! Your adventure sounds awesome. I know you are fairly near the coast, what is your elevation? Can you get somewhere to hike with some altitude? I remember climbing Mt Humphreys, the highest point in Az. 12000 feet. I was in good shape, and it us not a "difficult" hike, but I was sucking wind badly by the top half. I was over 10,000 feet. I live at 0 feet above sea level. Mt Washington is "only" 6289 feet. If you can get some elevation in your training, it would be helpful. I am vicariously riding along in your backpack. Now that would be extra weight!

Lori, I am Loving your flowers. That rose is beautiful! Good luck with all of your medical appointments. Find a new massage therapist.

Heidi, I thought you were building a house. Or are you trying to decide to build or buy? Didn't you and your family hike Mt Hood? So glad you have come back!

It has been a crazy busy week. I can't believe I have only worked 3 days so far. I have to be in early today, because I have to squeeze in a surgery before my appointments. However, I am only working until noon. Yikes! It is rainy and gross here, but in the 40's. Dare I mention it is supposed to S#&@ tomorrow? emoticon

The speaker at Rotary yesterday was a Dr in PT, kinesiology, and nutrition. He was good. He offered a free fitness consult $150 value. I'm no idiot, sign me up, so we'll see. I'm broke, so I can't sign up for a gym, let alone a trainer. Perhaps they can get me set up to do more at home. Anyway, perhaps it will help break my plateau.

Quint and I have our Ruby tails wagging, although we only have nubs!

DRSUE, the fish turned out great! I wrapped the prosciutto so that it was sealed on top and baked the ling cod at 400. Had too much to do to take time to sear fish.

KATHIE, It's going to be great. Someone will fall in love with your lake house, and they will cherish it. You will, no doubt, let them know how much this house meant to you two.

It never fails! I have unexpected deadlines to meet; I'm taking Friday and Saturday for sure for my MeetUp group, so now I'll be up until midnight instead of getting a good night's sleep. Oh, well. Thank you concealer and circle eraser!

It's 7:30 pm, but I'm taking Gunther on a short one. Poor guy has been so patient. He has spent most of the time curled up at my feet here in my office. He's turning out to be pretty darned civilized (at times;))

When you arise in the morning,

give thanks for the morning light, for your life and strength.

Give thanks for your food and the joy of living.

If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies in yourself.

Sort of cloudy here too--hoping the rain holds off so I get a walk in before an inservice I have to attend later today.
Peg, hopefully DB will be able to participate via phone. My mother decided to go on a sr center trip to Georgia in June. My brother and I decided to pay for it for her for her birthday, Mother's Day, Hanukkah--the whole year. We contacted our sister who hemmed and hawed and "can't afford it." Whatever, we're doing it. Last night my mother called me crying--she doesn't want us to do it. Are the 2 connected? I think so. Too bad. We're doing it. My sister has never gone in on gifts for my parents, and in fact has never, per her words, gotten them (now my mom) a gift. That's her choice. I'd sooner spend money on something she wants than on junk she doesnt' But anyway, our siblings are what they are.
Hoping lunchtime is soon. I'm starving!! As always!

Hi Team!
Cloudy, gray, raining off and on...need I say more? However, there is some life in the gardens...some daffodils and tulips starting to poke through and the hellebores are uncovered and seem to have survived. I am wagging real hard at that! To the attorney this afternoon; DB won't be there. Called me this morning to say he is sick. I believe he is, but it doesn't surprise me to be going solo. He did ask if the atty will do the consult on a speaker phone so he can participate. In the "hope springs eternal" category, I dropped off my bike for tuning and cleaning today.
KATHIE, your property and house sound lovely. The right people will come along; hoping it's sooner rather than later. Also hoping the renters follow through on their cleaning statement.
It's not "pouring", but sometimes with pastels I will do an underlayer of pastels and then spritz it with alcohol in order to get some interesting drips and runs. Plus, it puts a first layer of color with out using up the tooth. Most of the sanded papers can take some wetness. (It also works when I really hate what I've done. I brush a lot of the pastel off, wet it down and start with something new.)
Yay, BERYL, on all your Ruby-isms! Just decided that I will have Easter brunch again, so I need to get my butt in gear and start cleaning. There will be the traditional bagels, lox, cc and I'll make a crustless quiche-y type thing for the gf and/or no carb people. XDH's wife has started Atkins and DD2 is supposed to be low carb abs and frankly, I feel better with fewer processed, starchy type carbs. Maybe a fruit salad...we'll see. Very simple. How nice that you offered your house to the visiting couple.
DR SUE, back, on track and a voucher for next season...good for you! Thought of Q. Saw an fb post that showed a pic of a black/tan doxie on stilts...the caption..."They told me I can be anything. I'm going to be a Doberman."
Hi NICKY, LORI, HEIDI and KELLIE!
A great day to all!

Beryl, glad class was not bad. Its hard not to anticipate difficulties when you know you are going to be dealing with students with issues.

DrSue, sorry the skiing was a disappointment but its nice that you have a voucher for next season--something to look forward to. And thanks for the advice for Annie's tummy. We both take a Pepcid before bed now and no more incidents for either of us. emoticon

Peg, watercolor class! Of course. That makes sense. I just couldn't figure out how you poured pastels. LOL. And thanks for the reminder that we can bark when we are doing the Ruby.

Heidi, my house is just outside of Charlevoix MI. I am on a quiet private lake (no public access) with 300 ft. of shoreline and 3 acres of woods. Far too much property for me to manage alone. The house and studio have abut 2800 sq. ft. and that does not include a full basement. Much more house than I need now too. We built it in 2001. We purchased plans and then adapted them. Its a beautiful house and I'll never have one as pretty again but that's OK. We loved it here but its very sad for me to be here alone now.

Yesterday's showing went well. It was a rush to get ready. I only had a couple of hours which is why I clean daily. I have a rotation of tasks so the house is always almost showing ready. The couple really liked the house. They stayed over a half hour. The husband had seen the sign and drove in. He's having ACL surgery this week and wanted to see the house before he's laid up. They own a store in town, she is the psychologist at the hospital. So they can afford it and they are considering it. Saturday's showing is the couple who was here last summer. I am hoping that one of these couples is the one that will fall in love with my house.

My other house (NC) has some interest. I don't know if the showings are scheduled yet. My realtor says the renters should be gone this weekend. They are paid up until the middle of April. They claim they are going to have the carpets cleaned and do some painting. If they don't, then I will have it done and take it out of their deposit. Too much stress.

Last night I saw the new Cinderella movie. Its very sweet and very well done. I went with 2 friends and we all enjoyed it.

Working today, tomorrow and Sunday. Its been a while. It will be good to see a paycheck again.

Good morning ladies. DrSue, welcome back! Sorry the skiing didn't go as you wished, but the coupon for next year is something to look forward to!
Class was not as bad as I thought it would be--definitely a Ruby wag there!!
The sky was much lighter this morning too when I pulled into the parking lot--another Ruby wag. Plus today is the last day this week for students--we have a paperwork day tomorrow--a BIG Ruby wag for that one!
I do have to get my butt in gear for Passover--shopping, cooking, and setting up--every year I say I 'm going to do it early, but I never do.....
have a great day!!

Good morning ladies! I had a good weekend, but less skiing than i hoped due to extreme vold and high winds. Oh well, i have a voucher good for next season. I have not caught up with everyone yet. I have been so busy, i can't believe i have only worked 2 days this week.

I was so excited to see Heidi back! emoticon Have fun with the new house, i am sure it is stressful, but so exciting.

Nicky, I hope the fish worked out! I season the fish and simply wrap the prosciutto around the fish. It is important to have the seam on a flat side. When you sear the fish, it kind of seals it as the prosciutto crisps.

I though i saw something about one of Kathie's houses, my fingers are crossed.

However, i have to go spin. My NSVs of this week were that post being away, i got home and have jumped right back into my routine. I frequently have a bit of trouble doing that. So, I have to go. Thinking of all of you, and I will catch up thoroughly. Great day!

Good evening Team!
KATHIE, I hope the showing went well. The fact that they came back after almost 10 months can only be a good sign.
KATHIE and NICKY, pouring was in watercolor class. Used just three colors in three little cups and poured on the paper. Tried to control some of the flow by tilting and turning the paper. It was fun.
BERYL, "being Ruby" doesn't mean you can't bark at things that make you unhappy. She certainly barks. lol
LORI, hope the extreme wind stops.
HEIDI, glad to see you here, again.
NICKY, I get a deep tissue massage. I was on a once a month schedule and then this winter didn't get there for three months. I really really enjoyed it.
Today was fairly pleasant, then the temps dropped and it started raining/sleeting/freezing rain. I was at pastels when it started. On the way home, there were two accidents on the bridge. I didn't think the road was slippery, but maybe...
Hi DR SUE and KELLIE.

My realtor called back for a showing today. They are here now. I have never put things right so fast in my entire life. Please, please let this mean that something good is finally going to happen

Heidi, come buy my lake house.

Hello my dears,
sitting under the blow drier getting my hair done and thought I'd check in.
I hope everyone is doing well.
We lookef at a lake house yesterday and I loved it. It would need updating but I could see myself there.
DS hated it though. We're still waiting to hear back from the builder.
Have a great Weds! I'm going to sit here and read everyone's posts. :)

Good frozen Wednesday team! Let's all sing..."Let it go, let it go...." emoticon
Kathie, body parts crossed this is a good walk through. Please be careful with the ice and the wood!
Still mad from last night! Sent a snarky email to one of the students saying she did not turn in the assignments and received a 0. DUH!!
I am happy and doing the Ruby dance that tomorrow evening a favorite chef of ours is doing a local demo at a Williams Sonoma and I will be there!! And DH is cleaning the house tonight and getting dinner ready. Did I mention our local Rabbi asked for volunteers to house a couple who are attending a bar mitzvah and wish to be near the temple?? Yup, I volunteered....so DH is cleaning! WIn/Win!! lol
Keep those Ruby tails going ladies!
Have a good day!

Beryl, I was a teacher for 5 years. I taught high school and night school so I know what you are talking about. A glass of wine makes it all better. emoticon

My realtor here in MI called early this morning to arrange a showing for Sat. a.m. The people walked the property last Memorial Day weekend but did not come in. They had been looking at other houses and didn't have an appointment so they said they'd be back. Well, they are back. I have no idea how serious they are but I will be ready. Its pouring rain though just above freezing. So far, so good. I still have ice out front and need to get a lot of ice melter down today. I keep the house pretty close to ready to show but I have a problem. I had to have more wood delivered and I had it stacked on the front porch (big covered porch). I've burned a lot of it but there's still a few stacks. I can neaten those up (ugh) but I have several huge pieces that don't fit in my stove. They are piled up on the porch. I was going to move them to the side of the house in the spring, they can be split by someone other than me, so they are usable. But now I have to move them today in the rain I'm working tomorrow and Friday so I have to cross the wet ice with them. I have cleats. This is not what I had planned for the day. Wish the dogs could do it for me.

So today I will more or less stage the house. I can't wash the floors until Friday night because of the mud. But I can get just about everything else done. Of course I was just beginning to make progress on my project. It always works that way. As soon as I get rolling life interferes. But this is interference I welcome. It would be wonderful if these people were the ones who will fall in love with my house.

Lori, to answer your question: when both houses sell I will look for a small house in Asheville NC. I keep my eye on the market down there. There is some new construction of small houses that might work and I am not ruling out townhouses that have yards. I am not going to do anything until both houses have sold. I am over my head right now.

Now I'm really having a hard time keeping my Ruby tail wagging. Just got a call from one of my students. One of my African students. I have told my students NEVER to call me--they may text me, although I prefer emails. She "forgot". I did go off on her about that. She then told me how she did not understand the assignment. Oh my. I have posted it, discussed it, written about it, and done everything but sing it. Out of 27 students, she still doesnt get it because she didn't follow my instructions to begin with. Trust me, she knew I was not happy. DH said I was not rude, but I let her know I wasn't happy.
I got off and was screaming I was so mad. THen I ate dinner. lol. Got over it. I keep tellling myself she is only 1 out of the class. Her cousin or whoever she is will be the next one I scream about, but again--they are only 2 out of the class.....
My tail is wagging, my tail is wagging.... emoticon

LORI, Oh, my goodness, we were literally talking apples and oranges! I was asking you about the OMNI DIET, and you were talking about something altogether different! emoticon
Couldn't imagine how you could feel sick on the Omni Plan.

Sometimes food addicts have to eliminate the primary addictive food totally, like sugar.

I believe the Omni Diet Plan, mostly plant based with the addition of god fats, and
Dr. Sara Gottfried's "The Hormone Reset Diet" are similar to WW but more "guided," I guess you would say. The emphasis is on eating real food.
Dr. Gottfried claims there are 7 hormones that can run amuck, and certain foods will help put them all in balance. There is a quiz to determine whether, say, one is estrogen dominant, low in progesterone, thyroid, testosterone or cortisol, etc.

When it comes right down to it, MOTIVATION, getting to motivation, is the real key.
As you all know, I get COMPLACENT and do the BLTs, the just-this-once, the I-don't-care-I LOVE-this.

I managed to complete a 66-minute Jari Love "Ripped 1000" HIIT workout today, and I was able to use the same weights I used in 2013. Never thought that would ever happen again. Goes to show we are always becoming if we work at it, be patient, and don't do anything crazy.

KATHIE, I'm starting to believe that we women have more of a propensity to forward freak than men.
I'm getting there, but I'm not "there." Worrying and tormenting myself over something that may not even happen is my specialty.

PEG, when you pour, how many colors do you use? I would end up with a grey mess called Foggy London.
What sort of massage did you get? I definitely need to do that again. Somehow the foam roller and massage balls just aren't the same.

I'll do one more hike up hill tomorrow, but it is already starting to be too warm. I'll start out at the same time the hike is starting on Saturday to get a feel for the heat, but because Gunther is with me, we may have to cut it short.

DRSUE, I'll attempt your fish recipe with the prosciutto tomorrow. I'm using ling cod and the real stuff from Italy. You didn't say anything about toothpicks, though. I hope I get it right.

When you arise in the morning,

give thanks for the morning light, for your life and strength.

Give thanks for your food and the joy of living.

If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies in yourself.

Oh man,

No, Peg, I don't even have this rose. I would like it, yes, but I didn't mean to tease you.

Kathie, where will you end up living? We will pray that your income multiplies faster than your debt. We are in a difficult $$$ situation too.

We have terrible, horrible winds today. It uprooted a tree, in the parking lot of CVS today.

Good for you Beryl and Peg. I'd love to get my 2 hour weekly massages back, but, remember, she fired me as a patient, because I has the Achilles surgery,

Beryl, nothing like color & a cut to make it a good day. Enjoy your Zumba and keep your Ruby going. Your dinner sounds yummy as always. I'm having chicken thighs mole, rice and roasted brussels sprouts. And maybe a glass of rose.

Peg, what is pouring? I can't imagine how you pour pastels but it sounds interesting. I'd love to know more. And a massage maybe even better that color & a cut. Its a close one. I recommend getting one a month. It has helped me a lot.

Nicky, snakes! Be careful. And with the heat too. You are very brave.

Lori, the rose is gorgeous. I would love to see one. Smell one. I would love to grow roses someday. I would like a yard with sun. I hope your daughter chooses WW over Omnitrition. Good luck with all the medical stuff.

Lori, I'm afraid here is nothing to be happy about as far as my houses. Now I have 2 for sale. The renters will be out of the NC house early and I will be losing almost 25% of my net income (ouch) and my expenses will be going up because now I have to pay for the yard work and electricity too. I hope one or both sell fast because I am going to be stretched financially. I am trying to tell my stomach to calm down but the stress always hits me there.

Its cold & sunny here. I did get out for a walk with Annie & I am glad I did even though its cold. I felt calmer afterwards. I have gotten a little bone on my project after several false starts. I am liking it now. Will probably work on it all day tomorrow since freezing rain is predicted.

Hi DrSue, Heidi and Kellie!

I will keep my Ruby going. I will keep my Ruby going.

Hi team and happy late Tuesday afternoon.
Lori, that rose is glorious! Good luck on all your check ups tomorrow.
Nicky, oh my gosh, please be careful. Snakes? I'd be dead of fright.
Peg, so glad you enjoyed the massage. I have a few groupons I have to use for them. I just forget about them. DUH.
Hair cut/color done. Off to zumba soon. Fish with salsa, sauteed greens and brocolli, and baked sweet potatoes are dinner and are waiting.
Planning my Passover dinners. Thought I was catching a break this year--not so much. But I want to keep my Ruby going and I'm going to NOT be stressed over things. I won't be! I won't be!.....
Still freezing and sunny here. I want spring! I fear it will go from cold to hot just like that!
Have a good evening ladies! emoticon

Good afternoon Team!
LORI, I know you posted that pic just to torture me! lol More yard and garden is appearing each day, but no more crocuses or snowdrops...yet.
NICKY, at watercolor class there is always a demo and then you are free to try the demo or work on your own thing. Yesterday we did pouring which is a lot of fun. You never know just what you'll get and then try to make it into "something"... Be careful on your hike. It's still too cold for the snakes to be out and now I'm wondering about the bears, if they're coming out of their dens yet....
Just got back from my first massage in months...it was so good to be back.
Wishing a good day for all and let's continue our "Ruby-ness". emoticon

Hello Team,

The rose above is not mine, but maybe if I wish long and hard enough it could be. It is called the Neil Diamond, it smells amazing. We found it yesterday, while spending the day with my friend, her birthday, yesterday. If, you ever get the chance to stop and smell this rose, you will not be sorry.

Nicky, I hope that you are safe on that hill, good grief, 3 rattlers, that is crazy. I'm glad that you will NOT be taking Guenther.

My dear Beryl, I'm so sorry about Jo's home. That is so difficult for you I am so sure. I love hearing about your relaxing and watching your shows. It's as if I could see you and enjoy the time right along side of you.

Peg, we can hope that the cold will be over soon. It is here, but very breezy, too breezy for me and my gardens.

Kathie, I'm happy for you about your home. Will this be the home you will move into, once the lake house sells?

Nicky, Omnitrition is hcg drops and VLCD, 500 calories a day for 21 days, or 42 if one elects. It was very difficult to do and I really did NOT want DD2 to do it. Well I guess it's not happening cuz she felt very sick, dizzy and scatterbrained and could be an effective teacher. I told her that I'd help her with WW, that she could be successful if she could conquer her temptations and bingeing.

I have my Mammogram today, physical tomorrow, and annual at ob/gyn on Monday. I'm getting them all knocked out.

~I am grateful for my Team, my friends, family and DH, ~hugs, Lori

BERYL, YOU are dearly loved here, too, you know! Too many carbs in worms, any way.

PEG, do you have just one assignment per watercolor class, or is it an ongoing project?

7 miles up hill today with a heavy backpack. I'm going just on paved residential streets. A friend saw THREE RATTLESNAKES today on his 7-mile run in the Santa Monica Mountains on a fire road, which is where I'm supposed to hike this coming Saturday. Gunther is not coming on that hike because it's 3 hours up hill in 86-90-degrees, so I feel okay about the snakes. It's a dirt trail; one can readily see the snakes if they're on the path.

Goes to show, bright side and shadow side to virtually everything.

For what are you grateful today? I am so grateful that I have my stamina back. So grateful.

When you arise in the morning,

give thanks for the morning light, for your life and strength.

Give thanks for your food and the joy of living.

If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies in yourself.

So I do think doing our Ruby thing works, team. I was feeling very "nobody likes me, everybody hates me, guess I'll go eat worms"-ish, and got an email from a dear friend who emailed me that, after his partner, he made me his health care designee. I'm really touched he thinks that much of me!! Plus that he trusts me that much....lol
Off to the gym, then to pick up Jo. I didn't work out yesterday and feel like I gained 100 pounds. So I will today. Then eat cheese.
Hope your watercolor class was wonderful Peg.

Good afternoon Team! Sunny, but very cold here, too, down in the low teens at night. Thursday, maybe up to 60, but rainy. (and with "Ruby" lenses on, the upside is it isn't snow or ice)
KATHIE, good news that the renters are leaving. Nothing moves as quickly as we would like, but this will turn out ok.
BERYL, it can be comforting to discover that we're "not the only one". Computers are great...when they work properly. The doing things twice (logging by hand and then entering into the computer) is a nuisance. Don't think Rick's group is long for Alexandria unless they have a coup. There are a couple who are tottering on the brink...Rick and Sasha for two. next week is the finale, so I guess we'll find out then.
Went to pilates and then several errands, including going to the local P.D. to renew mom's handicapped placard so I can use it when I take her shopping, etc. Watercolor class this afternoon...yay!
Wishing a good day to all.

Peg

Good morning team! Very cold but beautiful sunshine. I enjoyed my walk Saturday and seeing the juxtaposition of crocuses peeking up surrounded by snow! It is supposed to warm up later in the week. I did notice it was a teeny tiny bit lighter on my drive to work.
Kathie, I'm so glad the loser renters are moving out (gosh, could it be my DD?) LOL. I think the new potential renters, whoever they may be, will be a good fit. As you say, they're going to be motivated and willing to pay....
Remember the stress of not knowing if they'd get out? That's done. Now it's a different stress, but sounds as though your realtor is on it. I'm so glad for that.
Trying to get Passover together and my class for Wednesday. I was glad I went to the adjunct faculty day at my university on Saturday--it let me know loud and clear that what I see is what everyone is seeing. I take comfort in that fact, that it isn't me!
Our computers are down statewide. Which means I have to hand log everything today until it's up, then put it all in. UGH again! But, I'll try and pull a Ruby and say how happy I am to have my job.....
Peg--what did you think????
Have a good day all!

Very cold here too--down to the low teens at night. I am trying to console myself with the sunshine through the windows.

The NC house is on the market and my realtor has already had inquiries. The renters are taking advantage of my offer to let them out of the lease early. They will be out next month and my realtor says they are already packing. The house will certainly show better without slobs in it (I hear you Beryl) but the financial burden I will take on is substantial. After Bill died my income dropped drastically. I can handle a couple of months but after that I will have to cut out anything that is not necessary to keep us alive. The realtor is looking for short term renters and can furnish the place for them. These are generally people who have sold their house but either haven't found a new house or can't take possession of their new house yet. So people who have some pride in home ownership. So lets hope it either sells fast or she can find someone to help me with the mortgage. I am trying not to get too stressed out over this.

Good evening Team!
BERYL, it is difficult seeing our children's choices. I have given up trying to figure out the "why". If you stopped pinching Jo, she might fall asleep in the car lol.
I have but one question...what is it with this cold???? Sunny but very very cold today. I really need some warmth. I can barely stand to run out with Ruby to take care of business and then jet back into the house.
Great hike, NICKY. What an adventure.
Getting ready to watch WD. At this moment the zombie apocalypse seems preferable to my life at present. (At least I would know what to expect...blood, gore and dead people trying to eat me)
A good evening to all.

Hi team. Late to the party today. Spent all day in Baltimore with DD1 and DD2 and Jo. Who, by the way, hates the car and screamed the whole way home. Charming.
DD1 lives in a pig sty. Her house is dirty and gross and dark and cluttered. I don't get it. She wasn't raised that way. Just don't get it. And SIL--don't ask....
Nicky, I know my mom's birthday. What I apparently do not know is the correct date on any given day! I thought yesterday was the 22nd. Brain freeze, totally!
Off to shower and get into my robe, eat my dinner, and watch WD. Can't wait!!!!
Hugs to my team and I echo Kathie--this is a safe place

LORI, is "Omninutrition" different from The Omni Diet by Tana Amen? I can't imagine why you would be weak on that, unless I'm thinking of something different.

BERYL, did I understand you correctly that you don't know your mother's birth date? Interesting. My mother never told me her birth date or birth year. My 'nother mother' was a good friend of hers, and she just knows the approximate date, too. What's the deal with not revealing your age?

Gunther and I did a very steep hill street today, 7.9 miles round trip. I carried 4 liters of water in my backpack for extra weight, as well as a fannypack worn in front with dog water and treats, maybe 10 pounds total. The hike next Saturday will be good practice for the May Mt. Hood hike. DD sent me links of various trails---they seem to have glorious waterfalls in this Oregon place.

It will be a 12-hour drive to Eugene, OR where DD will have finished an All-Star Roller derby tournament. Every time she mentions "roller derby," I roll my eyes and look heavenward. WHY?? WHY?? Such a sweet, petite, pretty young woman playing thug on roller skates. Humph. I'd NEVER say anything to her about it, though.

KATHIE, it must be hard to engage any will power when surely your brain chemicals are all over the place. Major stresses in your life. Sugar, no doubt, is your drug of choice?
You're doing it right. "Forcing" yourself to get out and see friends is healing.
Wish you could come on this hike with me! That would be so cool! I'm the oldest of the group, and many of those guys could be my son! None of us have met face-to-face yet, either. Should be very, very interesting.

When you arise in the morning,

give thanks for the morning light, for your life and strength.

Give thanks for your food and the joy of living.

If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies in yourself.

Hello Team,

Here is a pic of the whole plant. It is on my front porch, in front of my kitchen window. I am in love with it. I got it on clearance, last fall, and it has Not disappointed me. Flowers and birds are what bring me joy these days. Yes, of course my Kitties and grand babies too.

Kathie, I get small injections, every month or so. They wear off quite fast. My Rheumy tells me it is quite a small amount. They are trigger point injections, for my Fibromyalgia.

How did Annie like her yard run? Yes, food is better than booze or pills.

Peg, oh wow, I'm sure this part, of your Mom's, illness is quite hard on you. I'm so sorry. Again, do something for you, our dear friend.

My Beryl, I'm hoping that you enjoyed your nap and that you will have a great evening.

Tonight DD2, is coming over. She is gonna do Omnitrition, and wants my help in getting all of her shopping and instructions. I'm dreading it, cuz, while i was sucessful, I did get so weak, dizzy and sick. I also worry that she doesn't like the limited choices of veges. DS, is on day day 5, I spoke to him on day 3 and he lost 7 pounds. Both he, and DD2 have much to lose.

~ Hugs, Lori

Snow here too. Really not enough to have to shovel but enough to make things white again. Its only 25 degrees and windy but the sun is out so its pretty as long as I don't go outside. Its supposed to warm up for a day or two early in the week but pretty much stay cold for the rest of the month. Its tough once I've had a little taste of spring. Walking is on hold for a bit.

Lori, your fuchsia is lovely. I love them and had one by the front door last year. The hummingbirds finally discovered it late. Sorry you weren't accepted into the study. I have had really good luck with cortisone in my knee. My problem is a tendon but I have had 2 injections, one in my 20s and the next in my 50s so it has lasted a long time each time. Hope it works for you.

Peg, it has to be so hard for your mom knowing that her mind is slipping away. I know you are a huge comfort to her even if she is confused. Sorry about your snow.

Nicky, sounds like a nice guest. You'll do great on the hike. I have no doubts about your ability to keep up. Wish I could go with you.

Heidi, do you have a set of those 3 small blue balls for hand/feet acupuncture points? I want a set and I can't find them and my yoga instructor can't get them either. We also used those bumpy balls so I might get those.

Beryl, happy birthday to your mother. I hope she's doing OK. I know she's having a rough time. The anniversary has to be hard.

Everyday for me is about the same anymore. I feel like I'm in Groundhog Day. I wake up and nothing's changed. And then I realize that this is the way its going to be and I have to figure out how to keep going. So I go through the motions and I get the stuff done that needs to be done but beyond that, not much. There's no enjoyment in anything. Distraction is the best I can hope for with a TV show or a book. I do get out with girlfriends more now but I do it because I should and it fills up the time. I know people care but its so hard. The only comfort I get is food...all the wrong stuff. I try not to buy it but after a couple of days I break down.So I try not to buy very much of it and try to wait longer before buying more. I tell myself it could be worse. I could be drinking too much or taking mood pills or worse.

Anyway its good to come here and read the chatter even when I don't post. It feels safe her.

Perfect guest Nicky!
Peg, we probably got 5 inches or so. Couldn't believe it. But by the time it changed to rain the temp was up and today it's nearly all gone. Happy spring indeed!
Wished my mother a happy birthday on FB--it's tomorrow. I don't know the date to save my soul obviously.
Off to nap. Have a good day!

House guest came in the late afternoon, had dinner, left at 5:15 this morning. What a perfect house guest! Still the same mess to clean up, though.

LORI, fuscia always looks like an outer space plant to me. I love them; make me smile. Same with calililly. I have a black Cali that I'm sure us of Martian origin.

Big hike with my MeetUp group next Saturday. I'm a little nervous that I'm not prepared enough. But, heck, the worst that can happen is that I can't keep up. Forecast 90 degrees next week, too.
Will do up hills a few times this week and see how it goes.

When you arise in the morning,

give thanks for the morning light, for your life and strength.

Give thanks for your food and the joy of living.

If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies in yourself.

Happy Second Day of Spring!
Just enough snow to shovel, but it's warm and sunny enough that where I shoveled is clear already. Ruby may spend a little time in her yard today and that will be a rude shock for her, I think.
Keep wagging those tails!

Hi guys, just wanted to let you know that spring's cruel joke of a storm did not miss us. Luckily it's not building up too badly on the roads, just on sidewalks and lawns, but it's just not nice.
LORI, your fuschia looks lovely. Thanks for that burst of color.
NICKY, mom was NEVER spacey, very smart and a remarkable woman. She's sensing that her mind is the problem and that makes me feel bad. The past couple of days she's been saying that she hopes she doesn't "disappoint" me, like she could, right?. Anyway, it is what it is, she now thinks that if there aren't two Pegs, there's someone else who uses my name. She's relieved when she asks if I'm "Peg, her daughter" and I tell her yes. It's just very very sad. I think you should at least have one spa day a week!
and on that cheery note (sorry) I'll wish everyone a good evening.

Hello Team,

It's a beautiful, very warm day here. Heidi, so happy to have you back with us. Wow, so many changes. Is VA closer to any of your family? I'm very sorry about your knee. Living with this pain 24/7 is miserable.

I was rejected/ejected/ turned down from the clinical trial for my knees, UGH! I was told yesterday. So I elected to have my cortisone injections done. The doctor isn't told why I was rejected, he said that I could be too good or too bad. He is so funny.

I went to Lowe's and purchased some pretty plants to make my back yard pretty again. It has only two surviving plants in a sea of brown. So now it is much perkier.

Well, I guess I'm not so quick on the uptake, cuz, as I was reading your post, Beryl, to Peg, I was kind of concerned. I was about to go on FB and see what Peg may have posted and then it came to me, after a couple of thoughts that it was your TV show, lol

Kathie, spending money on you is important. You are so vital, and any type of good/physical or pampering is worth it. G-d made you and He wants you to be healthy and strong.

I'm with Peg, Beryl, is it a nurses job to give out snacks? You go over and beyond your credentials. Give Jo a kiss from me please. Hey when is your next baby to be born?

Peg, your Mom brings some amount of humor into your life, no?

Today is grocery shopping day, Yippee (not) I will do it with a friend and that may make it fun.

~hugs to all, Lori

KATHIE and HEIDI, there is another website, a wacky New Yorker called Yamuna, who trains with balls for therapy. I purchased both DVDs and use them as often as I can. I am motivated to actually do the exercises because I cannot even imagine going to a studio once or twice a week to work with a practitioner.

HEIDI, I did my own Spa Experience at home! DH went to a conference and will be home today sometime. I took that opportunity to engage in self pampering.
Even bought a new pair of yoga shorts at LuLuLemon!
Stayed in athletic clothes all week; oiled up the ol' bod and slept in socks and gloves, too.
It was grand.

Speaking of which, it would be nice and polite if DH would let me know what time he and his friend are rolling into town. He seems to work on the need-to-know-basis.

BERYL, are you on who utilizes the Simply-Filling-Technique? There was a question posted at the beginning of our Forum 3 days ago. Someone should respond to it.

PEG, I feel your pain. Was your mom always a little.......um.......spacey, or is this someone you don't really recognize at times? It's so very sad, especially if she recognizes that her mind is playing tricks on her.
I get so frustrated with my step mom, and she's sensitive enough that she recognizes it and apologizes sometimes for making me angry. Then I feel like a cad and an ingrate.

I read something today that I'm going to add to my day. When I'm craving something to eat, I'll ask myself if broccoli (actually I adore broccoli) will satisfy the craving. If the answer is "no," then I'm probably not hungry, but letting some brain chemical have the better of me.
I simply and plainly eat way too much. I constantly think I'm hungry, and I couldn't possibly be hungry.

Reading Dr. Sara Gottfried's "Hormone Reset."

Last afternoon of the Spa Experience was a yoga session and hair wash. I wonder if DH will notice how relaxed and shiny I look?

Good Morning Team and a Happy First Day of Spring!
No snow here yet, wondering (and hoping) if it will pass to the south. DR SUE, what's in your forecast? Didn't get up in time to go to pastels class this morning, but I needed to sleep in. Haven't slept well in months.
HEIDI, building will be exciting and stressful. Come share the good, the bad and the ugly with us. I'd love a whole redo on my house, so I will live vicariously through you...thanks.
BERYL, I didn't know kids could go to the nurse for food....is the in-service something useful? You're right, poor Buttons and poor Noah...how many more will we lose. Thinking that staying in Alexandria will splinter Rick's group.
NICKY, your Fri. night dinner sounds delish, too. I can't wait for local produce to start coming in (like asparagus). Bought some strawberries (CA) and they were tasteless...guess they have to pick them unripe so they survive the shipping. May/June for my favorite farm stand to reopen with the local stuff.
Hi LORI, KATHIE and KELLIE.
You know what's great about this group? We can drift in and out and back again, and all our friends are still here!
Must share (whine) took mom to the bank and grocery shopping yesterday. A couple of hours later she'd called and asked me if I had gone with her and the other lady because she had some questions...oh my...
Enjoy spring, everyone! emoticon

Saw a post on fb..."Flowers are the earth's way of laughing"...not even hearing much a chuckle here...yet....in time

Its so great to see you here Heidi. I've missed you.

Nicky thanks for the link about the therapy balls. I am checking it out. We use smaller balls on our hands and feet in aerial yoga and I know how much it helps. I shouldn't be spending money right now but his might be worth it especially if I keep it up.

Not following the discussion well so I will assume its about a TV show that I don't watch.

Not really sticking except to the grass.
Heidi, so exciting!!! Keep us in the loop.
So over kids coming in asking for me to feed them. I guess I need to get nasty snacks!
Sort of anxious because I may possibly miss my WI tomorrow because of an adjunct faculty inservice day. I could get up extra early and go......or just go next week. I never miss.
Hope you all have a wonderful first day of spring. Good things are coming!!

Good morning, girls!
Thank you, NICKY, to have a warm welcome after my extended absence, such as you have all given me, shows me that I have friends in all of you. I have foam rollers and little blue massage balls, I'll look that yoga up. I went back to therapy exercises yesterday on leg day and will continue that until it's strong again.
I'd rather get a massage like PEG, or go to a spa, like you, NICKY.
We're going to see a builder today with plans of our own to see how much we'd be looking at to build it.
Excited and nervous!
Have a great day, all. :)

HEIDI, I was just thinking about you last night! Major life upheaval; you're pretty hard on yourself, girl.
And, BTW, you have more than one friend. YOU HAVE US!!
This is where you come to moan and groan and leap for joy.

Maybe look into Jill Miller's Yoga Tune Up, if you haven't already? Therapy balls. I use a hard foam roller and therapy balls to this day for my knee. It's about 90% better, I would say.

DRSUE, I got the prosciutto today, as well as a couple of pieces of ling cod. Will give it a try this weekend, but not for my house guest Friday night.
I'll be making shrimp and chicken andouille sausage, roasted asparagus, and wild rice. I bought a garlic and asiago rustique 1/4 loaf bread because this house guest is mad for bread; I don't keep wheat in the house.

I thought for sure I'd drop some weight by eliminating NUTS from my diet, but, lo, just a couple pounds' worth. NUTS are not the issue, it seems. It's really the AMOUNT of food I can put away if I don't weigh and measure. Sigh. Slow learner.

BERYL, the kids' misadventures and dramas haven't changed too much through the years, have they? I remember those high school years as being so intense. I featured myself as a hippie intellectual in high school and spent hours and hours in used book stores. I read all of Hemingway one summer, Ayn Rand, and attended French and German language movies. Bless my mother for putting up with me. . .

PEG, how great you're getting a massage!

Good weekend to my Team.

YAY Heidi! We miss you! Stop by all the time please!
Cleaning must be in the air today. I've cleaned my back room out at work, and just did my upstairs freezer. One full trash bag full of freezer burned food (I'm assuming it's food!).
Oh Peg, poor thing. I felt so bad for him. What an ugly death! The friends I watch online with say that the community is what it seems to be. THey want them to stay. I guess they're a community like any other, with good guys and (really) bad guys. I don't know what the reverand was doing. WTH??? He's never been a good guy but how does he forget locking his own congregation out???

Good afternoon Team!
A big WELCOME BACK to HEIDI! Your life sounds crazed so come join the rest of the crazies. Losing seems to have become difficult for some of us and I'm thinking of blaming it on "something in the water" lol
LORI, I hate cleaning the house and yet, it is rewarding to see it clean and I do enjoy the result.
Hoping all have a good day; saw the trucks pretreating the streets, so snow must be on the way. Not a large accumulation, but enough to be a nuisance and create bad driving conditions.
ONE SMALL CROCUS BLOOMING!!!!!! emoticon

Hello Team,
**Guilty downcast eyes** emoticon
I'm sad to admit that I haven't been here in so long that I forgot my password. I've been thinking about everyone here a lot, and decided it was time to come and visit.
I will read and catch up with everyone as time allows.
A brief summary of my life now:
We live in Va on his parent's farm (renting his brother's trailer for the time being) where we have 5 acres deeded to us. We are going through the process of building on that property. We've met with builders, pre fab house companies, visited factories where they build, looked at houses off the property to buy. We're deep into it.
I still homeschool, and my husband is now fully retired through the Army, and is working as a Youth Pastor in the little town we live in.
I have ONE friend and we see each other rarely. I miss the military badly. My weight has yoyoed constantly, and I am truly struggling being able to take off any weight that I gained in our move, despite the fact that I work out heavily and frequently. It seems that when I left WA, I left all my ability to lose behind me.
I am struggling with my knee again and think I may need to see another Dr about it. It was doing well until the move and subsequent activity, and has been bothering me since October, and more recently has gotten pretty bad. I live in pain daily, but I keep on going.
All in all, I feel like a mess, but I just keep plugging away.
Im so happy to see KATHIE's face here, though I haven't read any posts at all.
I hope all is well with each of you.
~Heidi

Hello Team,

It was muggy and cooler today. We had a few thunder storms but little rain. I spent all day cleaning our bedroom, dusting vacuuming and all else necessary. It looks so lovely now.

It appears weare all good with minor plumbing. I'd say we should all be proud of ourselves.

Oh Beryl, your cruise is soon upon you. I'm sure that you can't wait. Our's is in September and we a deliriously excited.

Peg, find some time for you, a massage is in good order.

Nicky, enjoy your last spa day.

Dr. Sue, yea for another ski trip.

Kathie, thanks for clarifying that about Charlie. I'm glad that you and Annie can do long walks.

Well goodnight my ladies, Lori

Good evening Team!
Survived the spring "concert" and I use the term loosely...omg Also while we were there a teacher informed DD1 that DGS had missed some sessions of an extra cred group (or something) She was p*ssed! Don't want to be at her house tonight. Kind of ironic as cutting classes she didn't like was her M.O. (how she would pull it out at the end of the year amazed me)
KATHIE, my hero! I'm working on the poorly draining washer, but I may have to call someone. (I almost wrote "who has a long snake", but remembering the snickers from my hot weiner comment, I refrained...lol)
NICKY, what a great week. I finally scheduled a massage for next week. Haven't been there since November...what was I thinking? I can't wait to hear about your hiking. I'm jonesing to go biking. Will drop it off for servicing and cleaning next week.
DR SUE, enjoy the skiing!
LORI, still gardening? Saw some sprouts where I had planted bulbs (don't remember what they are, so it will be a surprise) and then they were covered by today's dusting. I really hope we won't get anything this weekend. And, DR SUE, hoping it misses you, too.
Yesterday I felt like a booking agent. Dr. appts for me and mom, attorney appt. and I sched my car for an oil change and some other maintenance. Went on the local VW website and scheduled it. The confirmation email was for a dealer in Rhode Island! wth??? So, I called and got it straightened out.
Hoping all have a good evening.

BERYL, I felt so bad for Noah. He was just this good, goofy kid. Thinking Alexandria and Rick's group are not a good fit. and what's this with the minister all "Rick's group is dangerous" and Jessie's DH?????? Nothing good will come of this, I'm afraid.

Nicky, you have such fun things upcoming!!
I love my HS kids. Had a cute fellow come in today. Heard he broke up with his girlfriend, and he said yes, it was too much drama for him. He came in c/o chest pain....(he is fine, by the way). Who comes in next? Yup--ex girlfriend. 850 students and these 2 come in together. She has a "migraine"--no sensitivity to light, no nausea--it's a HEADACHE Miss Drama Queen. She points to him and says "chest pain?" lol. Goes over and speaks to him.
Drama every day. The young and the clueless. lol
One of my grad students texted me today that she didn't know where the material for our online class this week is. Uh, did you check the class board online?? Week 2? Readings and assignments?? No.....
My head is pounding..
Did the barre class again. I worked up quite a sweat! Didn't burn many calories but every muscle is sore. Tomorrow night our local hospital system is putting on a Dance the Night Away at an event hall. Lots of dance instructors doing workouts, healthy foods, exhibits. Can't wait!!!
Peg---what did you think???

DRSUE, thank you for the fish recipe. I'm not sure I understand, though. Do you roll the fish and the prosciutto is on the outside like a jelly roll, or just wrap it? It sounds positively delightful.

And, I envy YOU the skiing.

Spa Experience so far has been a hike up a hilly street, 7.5 miles total; I had a backpack AND fanny pack and carried 4 liter bottles of water to add some weight. I wore my new trail runners that I got for my hike next weekend and my trip to Oregon in May. They're Merrells with a 0 drop, Vibram soles and really pretty neat lugs. I like Vibram because it's a little sticky, especially on wet surfaces. DD sent me links of the various hikes she has planned. She asked if I can do 13 miles in one day. Who knows??!!! I can walk on flat ground forever, but climbing up hill in altitude, I just don't know. I think I may buy some oxygen at the camping store.

KATHIE, my DH traveled a lot when the children were little. I had to do all that stuff, too. Toilets (DS flushed his training pants down the toilet, along with his favorite Matchbox car), sinks.
Amazing what we can accomplish when there's no other choice, isn't it?
You're my hero, BTW.

BERYL, it sounds like your tribe is very needy. You must get a few giggles on any average day. It sounds more like elementary than high school!

Spa Experience sort of ends tomorrow. I must go to the market in preparation for DH's return with his friend/colleague, who will spend the night on Friday before he flies home on Saturday. Back to reality, BUT, tomorrow will be deep hair conditioning and another facial!
I could get used to this.
If I had the energy, I'd go get a massage, but otherwise I've really pampered myself.

Life is good.

Where the heck is KELLIE? I miss hearing about her adventures.

When you arise in the morning,

give thanks for the morning light, for your life and strength.

Give thanks for your food and the joy of living.

If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies in yourself.

Good afternoon team. Its sunny here but only about 30. Its still officially winter and I choose to be happy that it is sunny and not snowing.

DrSue, thank for the instructions for the fish. I do want to try that next time I get my hands on nice piece of fish. Morel season is a good 2 months from now. I doubt if I will go hunting alone now. Enjoy your last skiing.

Nicky, I am envying your spa experience but enjoying it vicariously.

Beryl, you have little flowers poking out? How lucky! I think the spring flowers are pretty tough. Sorry for your family's trip clashing with your vacation.

Peg, what can I say? You are a saint to deal with your mother's issues.

Lori, I have Charlie, a 10 year old Lab along with Annie, who is 9 and a mix, and Ceecee my 17 year old cat. Charlie is a big boy, 110 pounds. He's a gentle giant. Charlie was a special needs adoption and has outgrown all his issues save one. He is not good on leash. He gets too excited and hyperventilates. And he has a tendency to lurch. We had one-on-one training with him and even our trainer advised us that he's not a leash walker. Other than that he's very, very good. I adopted him but he chose Bill and he would go to work with Bill. So he didn't just lose Bill, he lost his job and an entire circle of friends. He's finally adjusting to being my dog but can be very clingy now.

I just finished unclogging my bathtub drain. I filled the tub with water during a wind storm and when I tried to drain it, it only drained half way before clogging. Its the guest bath, seldom used, no one has showered there since last July so what could be clogging? I wash the tub once a week but the last two times I filled it with water during storms I've had trouble. Last time I thought it was a frozen pipe since it was -24. So I looked up a video and followed the instructions and it worked. I am feeling a little bit empowered. I have to learn to do everything myself. I cannot afford to just call a plumber unless its something I cannot fix. Two days ago I regrouted where the backsplash meets the counter in the kitchen and it looks pretty good. I am trying.

Time to bundle up and get out with Annie for a walk. She is camped out on the front porch waiting for me.

Just a quick check in to say Good Morning Team!
Read all the posts...
LORI, I am so envious that you get to garden. and NICKY, ditto on your spa week. (Maybe I should have written that yesterday...I could have been green with envy for St Pat's Day :) )
BERYL, glad your mother was ok when you called. I didn't know you had a choice in dates. Is this when the headstone is unveiled?
DR SUE, enjoy the weekend! I heard about your record and thought immediately of you.
NICKY, there is an agitator and the washer is the most basic I could find. What threw her off is it has a series of lights that come on during the various phases of the cycle. She thought the lights meant she had to do something and panicked.
Woke up to a dusting of snow and frigid temps. The wind was fierce last night. Today will be busy. Off to mom's to have her taxes done, then to pastels, then to DGS's school concert tonight. I, too, used to see DGS all the time (in fact, they lived with me for a couple of years) but now, holidays, school events and when I go to his sport events. And what a young man he has become. DD1 posted a soccer pic of him when he was 6...almost forgot what a cute little guy he was (now, a handsome young man at 11)
Hi KATHIE and KELLIE
Hoping all have a great day. Stay warm or cool, whichever fits.

Good morning ladies.
Freezing here today. Had like a 30 degree drop from yesterday. Windy and cold again. Winter is definitely back. Our poor little flowers and greens poking up from the ground will be frozen.
OMG, a student just came in asking for lotion. I have a huge sign on my door saying no lotion, cough drops, or Vaseline. No one need leave class for any of those things.
DrSue enjoy your last weekend up there! What a nice thing to look forward to. Except those wind chills!
Peg, I called my mother yesterday after not calling her on the Hebrew date of my father's death and she was surprisingly fine. In fact, she now regrets not waiting until the English date to acknowledge it. Can't win.
Found out my sister and her 2 children, her wife, and stepdaughter are coming to stay with my mother for a week in June. It's normally August. No idea they were coming then. They're going to have a celebration for their wedding from October. We leave the next day for our cruise......I want to be an only child!!
Nicky, envy continues for your spa week!!
Hooked on Empire. Almost up to the finale which is tonight.
Have a good day team emoticon

Happy day after St Patricks day!

Beryl, I'm sorry for your grieving, both for your daughters friend, and for your father. It never is easy. I was freaked out the other morning, I had a dream my brother called me on the phone. We had a conversation, it was so REAL. He's been gone almost 15 years!

Nicky, I agree no snakes! I am so jealous of you spa week. I am jealous of you and Lori's hot weather. No crocus' or snow drops here. Oh and just to let the group know, we officially broke the record for the most snow in recorded history in Boston. With the 3 inches of snow we had Sunday, we have had 108.6 inches of snow in less than 8 weeks. So we have that going for us. The snow is melting, despite it being cold. Today we have strong winds and a wind chill making it feel like 11 degrees.

Peg, you are a very patient person. Look how well you do with your Mom. Besides, you said you WANTED to walk out, you didn't say anything about actually walking out!

Kathie, I'm so glad your tenants are cooperating, and you place will be listed by the date you wanted. I am jealous of you seeing 60 degrees. Enjoy it and walk Annie a lot! Is it almost Morel season? I know, I'm not too food obsessed. I like corned beef ok, but I can't deal with the boiled vegetables, maybe with Beryl's baking addition, it would help. The bonus of living in a predominantly Irish area, is DH can go to his choice of local pubs and get his Boiled dinner.

Lori, you changes to the garden sound wonderful. Enjoy every moment outside!

So the Haddock I made lat week is super easy. Haddock was fresh off the boat, but any firm white fish will work. I seasoned the fish with S&P and lemon zest. Each piece was about 4 oz. I wrapped a slice of prosciutto around the fish, making sure the seam was on the bottom. I pan seared it top side down for a few min, flipped it seam side down and finished it in the oven at 400 degrees. The key is to not move the fish until the prosciutto is crusty brown on side one.

I head north Friday for my off weekend, probably the last skiing of the year. I can't believe it has been a month. Other than that it, has been busy with work. Did I mention, it's still really cold here? What am I complaining about? They just said with the windchill it is -59 degrees on the top of Mt Washington. So, I felt good, until he added that we may be getting 3 inches of snow Sat.

Have a lovely day everyone!

BERYL, somebody posted at the top of the Forum regarding Simply Filling Technique and counting calories. Aren't you the one who follows that plan? Can't remember the name, but it was posted 1 day ago.

The one-year anniversary of the passing of the love one is, in the words of Dr. Seuss, a terrible, horrible day. You may feel the same; I have always felt that I could not display my grief in front of my step mom because she was more "entitled" to express her grief and expressing mine would make her feel worse. There was no one for me to lean on. I sought help with a psychologist for a couple of months.

I wonder if our children will get frustrated with us? I remember when my grandparents lived with us when I was a kid. Seems I saw my mother more angry than not those days. Two women in the kitchen was a disaster.

Spa Experience Day 3----walk with good friend in Venice Beach and seafood lunch. I had almond encrusted trout with two sides of vegetables.
Walked Gunther for a couple of miles after I returned home.
Had a large mixed greens salad with tomatillo salsa for dressing.
Now will be 1-hr of yoga (Power Yoga Online)
Feet with body butter and socks for the night.

LORI, how cool to redesign the yard and get out in the fresh air! My Cousin Alice back in CT had the grandchildren spend nights while they were younger, but now that they are playing sports and whatnot, she rarely sees them except holidays. One set of twins were all about pirates, so grandpa set up a treasure hunt in the back yard with all sorts of pirate booty. Being in the moment and enjoying every second with them is the lesson to be learned, I guess. From the looks of it, I doubt I'll ever human grandchildren.
I love to hear about your adventures with them.

PEG, is your mom's new washing machine without an agitator as my new one is? I STILL have trouble with it. It's a top loader, but there is no agitator. It works by forcing water through the clothes during centrifugal force. I'm sorry; the close do not as clean as with an agitator. Not only that, sometimes they come out all tangled and knotted. One can't wash waterproof clothing because the water can't be forced through the cloth.
Obviously, some nerd MAN engineer designed it. I say BRING BACK THE AGITATOR!!

When you arise in the morning,

give thanks for the morning light, for your life and strength.

Give thanks for your food and the joy of living.

If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies in yourself.

Hello team,

It is gorgeous out today it's perfect walking weather, and why of course great gardening weather. Yesterday, I spent hours and hours, in my backyard flower less garden. I switched things about laying bricks and stones for a path so that I could move my barbecue off of my patio. Then I had to lay the stones so that I could stand on them, when we BBQ, because they're in the bark. Needless to say, I was wiped out and very sore. My DH loved the new design which of course made me feel well accomplished. Oh, and I did talk myself into a walk yesterday, only 1 mile but at least I can say that
I did it.

Beryl, I am so proud of you that you looked at the kitchen, at DD's, and turned away. You know that I need to learn that from you because I never turn away I always dive right in. Let's say not always I am learning even if slowly. I love all the things you do with Jo. I too would do those things if they live near, this weekend we had DS and DGS. They spend the night with us over Saturday till Sunday. While it was short we enjoyed every moment with DGS. I'm sorry that you're grieving for your father.

Kathie, while I was reading your post, I heard dogs plural. You have another dog besides Annie? I'm so glad that the tenants are straightening up, hopefully soon you will have the house, that you desire to live in, and it will be Spring soon so you and Annie will be able to take many beloved walks together.

Peg, it appears that it never ends, with your mom, but hopefully you will find some humor soon and less drama. I'm glad that you found some sprouts signaling spring. I'm also laughing over the final Christmas decorations. I use the spot bot to clean up after my babies a vomits. It does a very good job.

Nicky, I am so glad that you are enjoying your week and pampering yourself. The story you told of Gunther and the beginning of your facial was hysterical. It is or should I say it was very hot out here. Yet it was still good gardening weather.

~hugs and happy St. Pat's, Lori

~ Lori ~

I'm here because I want to be healthy.

Good morning ladies. Sunny today so far, but may change later. The ground is soaked! Enjoyed my walk yesterday for sure.
Peg, I laughed out loud at your getting your Christmas decorations today! lol
Busy morning so far, and it's not even 10 yet! Zumba tonight.
Dinner tonight is steaks, sautéed cabbage (it is St Patrick's day!), and some starch to be determined when I get there. Steaks thawed last night. This thinking ahead is killing me!
Have a good day team!

emoticon emoticon Happy St. Patrick's Day, Team!
Wishing all a great day.
It will be pretty quiet here; doc appt for mom this a.m. and mammo for me this afternoon.
Last evening I went upstairs to find three more cat vomit spots, so I dragged out the carpet steamer and did the living room carpet. I must say that it looks much better.
On the plus side, the 12" of ice that had built up on my gutters and roof is nearly gone and this morning I was able to wrench the one remaining Christmas decoration out of the still frozen ground.
Spring is coming, ladies!

Good afternoon Team!
KATHIE, a big congrats on avoiding that temptress, ice cream. So good that you and Annie are able to walk each day.
NICKY, spa day sounds very very enjoyable. Sorry about the bill mess-up. I would have been on the floor, too. It's like Gilda R on SNL...."never mind"
Spent most of the day back and forth to mom's guiding her through the tortured path of using her new washer. Apparently, my written instructions are insufficient. But, her laundry is done until the next time.
A big hello to BERYL, DR SUE, LORI and KELLIE.
A good day to all.

KATHIE, DH is Irish. I understand that the Irish did not use beef very often. Pork is used traditionally. Corned beef spices and boiled dishes remind me more of my tradition.

Cabbage, sauerkraut and such remind me of "home."

First Day of Spa Experience was wonderful! I ate just one large meal around noon, which was centered around vegetables, mostly. Smoked salmon. Pig heaven.
Clay facial, mani/pedi; yoga, walk, meditation, body butter on feet with socks on!
Haven't figured out what to do on Day 2, but it's weight lifting day, walk, some reading.
Very self indulgent; I guess actors and models need to treat themselves this way all the time. THAT would get soooo boring.

Another hot day. The L.A. Department of Water and Power has thoroughly messed up their "new" billing system. Just what we need in the middle of a water crisis. My bill indicated I spent $1,779 in electricity and more on water. Received a letter to disregard, HOWEVER, I nearly fell to the floor when I opened the bill. The inmates are running the asylum around here.

When you arise in the morning,

give thanks for the morning light, for your life and strength.

Give thanks for your food and the joy of living.

Hi Team,

I'm Irish, very Irish in fact, but I just don't care for the whole corned beef & cabbage routine. I love Polish stuffed cabbage rolls (Galumpkis) but rarely made them and probably won't even make them again.. My church has a big St. Patrick's Day dinner yesterday but I skipped it. But glad that all of you who enjoy are indulging a bit. If it a special holiday food that you eat once a year I am convince it does no permanent damage. Ice cream, in the other hand....

I've got to watch out for tomorrow. Too many memories of St. Patrick's Day with Bill and with my parents. We used to go out with them to a cop bar, across the street from the main Detroit police station. The owner, Charlie Taylor, was a fabulous tenor (as was Bill). Last year Bill found a CD online and we listened to Charlie for the first time in years. Its too sad for me to get out any of my Irish music this year. Maybe next year.

We are still having a thaw. The snow is gone from the roof and most of the driveway. I have bare patches in the back yard but I'm in the woods so it takes a long time. Annie & I are getting into town every day and the sidewalks are clear for walking now. emoticon

For some reason I was really craving ice cream yesterday after the walk yesterday. There is a shop. I could have bought a single dip. I hugged Annie really hard, got in the car and drove home.

Last night I grilled pork tenderloin. It was the first time I have been able to use the grill since October. I marinaded it in fig preserves, chili-garlic paste, rice vinegar & a little soy sauce. I wrapped and froze one tenderloin and will feat on the other all week. I love it cold anyway, especially in a salad.

Wishing you all a good week.

Oh, sorry I wasn't clear Nicky. the corned beef is twice cooked! After it's boiled it's baked. I would guess you could also throw the cabbage in with it!

BERYL, the twice-cooked cabbage sounds like nectar of the gods to me!!
I cut my cabbages into quarters. How can I duplicate the baked part with mustard? Grey Poupon? 400-degree oven until it's crusty, or what?
I have 4 quarters left to play with.

PEG, make the corned beef. It's good cold; you can freeze a few slices. They really shrink down. I never end up with as much as I anticipated, either.

Spa Experience Day 1 rounding the bend. It's 6 P.M. and just now cool enough to take a walk with Gunther. He was so good and quiet during my 100-minute yoga practice today. During the last resting pose, I felt drip, drop, drip drop on my face only to look up and see Gunther's head leaning over mine. He was so trying to be a good boy and oh so quiet.
I'll just say that's Stage 1 of my facial I'll do tonight. . .

give thanks for the morning light, for your life and strength.

Give thanks for your food and the joy of living.

Good afternoon Team!
Nasty cold day...not very nice for the local Shamrock Run and St. Pat's parade. No way I'm standing out there. The opposite problem from you NICKY...too cold and damp.
BERYL, we can never say the right thing. Yesterday, after hearing a very detailed and bizarre story from mom (it included someone taking a pot of soup she made to a party - without asking- and being made to go shopping with a group of people) I said "You didn't go anywhere yesterday" and she promptly hung up on me. She did call back in the evening to apologize. This morning's rant was about missing spoons (that the soup stealer took). She wanted the # so she could ask that person to return them. I simply told her that as I didn't know who she was talking about, I couldn't help her with the number. Yup, that's how it's going. Sorry to hear you're in a similar situation. Enjoy your wonderful (and exhausting) day with Jo.
I also love corned beef, but still haven't decided if I will cook any this year. It's a lot for one person and I don't know if I feel like making the effort. If I do decide to, I could give some to mom, I guess. Still undecided...
Hope everyone has a good day.

Good Sunday morning team!
Nicky, I LOVE corned beef and cabbage. Our local store has cabbage for 19 cents a pound for 2 weeks in honor of it! I boil mine, then bake it in the oven with some mustard on it to get a crust. YUM!!
Doing some cooking for the week, then off to zumba, then will pick Jo up and bring her here. I'll have lunch, then we'll go to the children's museum, shopping, and for frozen yogurt before bringing her home. WHEW!
Had the best black bean soup I have ever eaten last night. They told me twice there was no meat in it. Imust try and duplicate it. I have TJs black bean soup and will garnish it up and see how it is.
Have a good day ladies!!

DRSUE, how did you wrap the haddock and cook it? Toothpicks? Bake? What fat did you use? I think I'll make that on Friday for DH and his friend after their conference.

After the conference in AZ, DH and his friend/colleague will hike in Sedona and then drive here to Los Angeles. Friend lives in NY, so he'll fly home Saturday morning.

Corned beef is of the gods. I could live on cabbage! I got the beef from both TJs and Whole Foods. The WH was far superior, but also $8.99/lb. Simmered it in organic chicken and turkey broth and ran the broth through a sieve for using during the week. I threw in 8 tiny red potatoes for good measure----a real treat.

"Where The Boys Are" is on TCM today in my area. Maybe it's tomorrow. Can't remember. I'm olive-skinned, European; I so wanted to look like Yvette Mimieux!
It's such a period piece that is probably unrelateable to Millenials, LOL.

L.A. Marathon goes down the Main Street of our town today. It's about two blocks from my house, and I usually walk to the finish line and cheer in the stragglers after 4:00. It's going to be HOT today. It doesn't bode well for the turtles. I don't even walk my dog in this heat during the day, for crying out loud.

When you arise in the morning,

give thanks for the morning light, for your life and strength.

Give thanks for your food and the joy of living.

If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies in yourself.

Good late Saturday check in team. Rainy and dreary here. Hard to get up and stay up today.
Kathie, that's wonderful news. I'm so glad.
Peg, you have more patience than anyone I know. My mother was again crying today and I tried to tell her for the hundredth time how much she's accomplished in a year and how strong she is and all that and that there's no down side to living nearly 87 good years and nearly 60 years of marriage, and it wasn't a 22 year old child which should never happen---wrong thing. Seems like that's my MO these days.
Nicky, enjoy the dinner and the first date reminiscing. That's a lovely tradition, and your day of beauty sounds even better. I need a pedi so bad!!
Lori, I hope it's not too hot for you there. SOunds like it's heating up already.
Off to shower before DH comes home. DD is working today and tomorrow so I made a whole wheat pasta bake and salad and dropped it off for them. DSIL and Jo weren't home. I did pick up the toys in the living room. Couldn't touch the kitchen if I wanted to. Which I didn't.
Have a good evening!! emoticon

KATHIE, good news about the tenants!
When we're up at our ranch(haha), I wear a St. Patrick medal. Never thought to wear it down here in the city, but I will start! He is one of my favorite saints for that reason, but my very favorite saint of all is St. Anthony. He is the patron saint for lost articles AND "useless" limbs. A combo saint!
I at one time studied the saints because they were just people who were so devoted and had tremendous faith.

DRSUE, your dinner sounds absolutely mouth watering and elegant!

BERYL, my heart goes out to you, your DD. I can't even imagine losing a child, I just can't.

Incredibly hot here today. 90 degrees here on the Westside!!!! It's probably even hotter for you, LORI!! I sure hope it's just a fluke weather pattern and not the beginning of Spring!

DH leaves Sunday morning. First yoga practice; clay facial; mani/pedi; Gunther walk early evening; smoked salmon and salad dinner; TCM "Born Yesterday" with Broderick Crawford, the older version. I think Melanie Griffith might have been in a remake, but the original is very cute and not PC.

PEG, hang in there. Spring is just about here. You can get down and dirty real soon.

Sure hope KELLIE is doing well. I don't think we've heard from her in a while.

I'm making corned beef and cabbage for tonight's dinner so we can celebrate St. Patrick's together. We had our first date on St. Patrick's Day in 1973 or 1974.
