Good evening team.
To answer some questions although at this point I can't remember who asked what.
Mom will stay where she is. It's too late to sign stuff over. Has to be 5 years before the Medicaid app. All of mom's assets will take her through 3 years...maybe.
The counted cross stitch are framed pics. One is of all different kinds of birds, the other spring flowers and the third a birdhouse with birds also in the pic
The PT is just to transition her to using a walker most of the time and getting her out of the wheelchair. When that happens I can take her out for lunch, hair appt with her usual stylist, etc. A little scare about taking her out though after her reaction returning from the dr. appt. This facility also has some "trips" to the movies, out for dinner, whatever. Once she's more independent and using the walker, she'll be able to go on those. They also have a "garden club" and will be asking her to join..
NICKY, I just grate raw cauli...very very quick and no processor to clean.
BERYL, thinking you definitely need some in-service sessions emoticon
Wishing a good night to all.

Peg

ROSEY, so good to hear from you.
I can't keep any of my "trigger foods" in the house. Nuts are my downfall. I keep them in the freezer now, but I don't buy the kind that I drool over, so there are always some there for DH.
If I kept the stuff I love around the house, it wouldn't last very long. I have no, none, positively zilch will power at the end of a long day.

If you are keeping "treats" around the house for the grandkids, please consider exchanging them for healthier options. I used to freeze those big purple grapes in baggies for my children. Apples with almond butter were another favorite treat.
Few of us can power through a day when treats are calling from the cupboards.

I'm so glad you still have Mathieu, even though parents won't be together. You will be a stabilizing force for him.
When will he go to preschool, or is he already attending?

BERYL, tell us again if you're at high school level; I forgot. Has school actually started yet, or are these the back-to-school days for teachers and staff?

DRSUE, Oh, boy, broaching any health subject with my mom. . . .I could actually see a curtain descend between us. My generation, the Boomers, are definitely NOT silent.
What I do understand, though, is the need to be independent. I DO NOT LIKE BEING TOLD WHAT TO DO OR HOW TO DO IT. My children are going to have to figure out a way to make it my idea when they want me to do something. I get angry with my DS when he tells me I should get out more. How the heck does he know how much I get out and what I do? Makes my blood boil.

KATHIE, this is your safe place, too. Journaling is a great way to just get it all out.
That would be wonderful for your friend to come visit you!!!
Where will the new heating equipment be stored? Is the house already vented, or does that have to be done, as well? Don't imagine that's a particularly tidy job, either.

LORI, are you all packed now? Do you wear shorts, sundresses, or what on the excursions?
I live and work in workout clothes, but I do have shorts and skorts to put on to call it "dressy."
Even my "cocktail dresses" are sundresses from Athleta.
I have no idea what one would bring on a cruise.

PEG, you're doing a great job. How does mom feel about more PT? Will she need to move to another facility soon? I'm not sure I quite understood the process. Definitely not looking forward to the day when I'll need to confront step mom. She's a bit of a hoarder, but is working on getting rid of pictures and paperwork. Thank heaven!!

Leftovers tonight, but I'm going to try a different chicken recipe tomorrow that has lemon, capers, and artichoke hearts.

Yes, the Trader Joe's cauli rice, riced cauliflower, is just that. I've heard of two ways to make it; one is raw florettes in a food processor, and the other is cooked cauli put through a ricer.
I make mashed with a stick wand immersion blender, or whatever it's called. I use Kerrygold butter, salt, garlic, and pepper.

I eat rice and wild rice on occasion, so it's not imperative that I eat the cauli stuff. Noted, though, that TJ's was again out of the product yesterday.

When you arise in the morning,

give thanks for the morning light, for your life and strength.

Give thanks for your food and the joy of living.

Hi all! Another busy day. Had our meeting about the new student, and all I can say is WOW. The male nurse who came with him to discuss him with us had all the females in the room staring and drooling. Holy Moses! He looks like a model, and is as smart and nice as he is spectacular looking. I think I need some special tutoring on the device..... emoticon
Lori, I'm so excited for you! What is your SIL talking about bringing your pillows? They have them on the cruise, and on the airplanes, can't you get those blow up neck things? And make room for me too in the suitcase!!
Ari is precious, and so interactive and fun! I love being around him and just seeing him watching and reacting to everything. He's very chill. As opposed to our Jo....who is a great 2 year old. Oh, and Sha sha brag--she counts to 10. And knows her ABCs. It's all memorization, but still.... lol
Peg, what a letdown. They should have let you know. That isn't acceptable they didn't. I'm glad she has another week, and again, their social worker should be able to take care of all the paperwork for her to stay until the PT is done. They do it all the time. I'm sure the pillows cheered her up too.
DrSue, you go! I hope you aren't sore.
Off to do a new class since it's bonus week at the Y and there isn't much to choose from. I'm sore from the last class, but tomorrow I start to teach so I'll be off for the first time since June. I'm anxious about not exercising tomorrow. What a nut job.
Dinner is cooking--asian chicken breasts, stir fry bok choy, corn on the cob, and tomatoes/onions. Can't wait, as usual.
Have a good evening ladies! emoticon

Hello my wonderful Teamies,

No, I haven't left for our cruise yet, Friday night is our red eye from, LAX. Saturday, will be our little piece of heaven. Peg, there is still room for you, after, of course, my BF who wants to stow away too. We are so grateful to my brother for taking us. I started packing yesterday, will continue today. DH and I will do one load of laundry tonight or tomorrow so we can bring every thing we want. Now, my s-i-l says it is important to bring our pillows, cuz it is a week of sleeping and we would really appreciate them, but I'm not at all sure that I will have room and we don't want to pay $50 roundtrip for just our pillows.

Peg, if your Mom can transfer her home to you and DB, would Medicare/cade pay for her hospital/long term/assisted living? Or is this place that you want to take her cash only? Also, you said the pool is closing but isn't it in your BY? Or are you talking about the pool that you go to? I'm so confused. One more thing, you spoke of a "Plein Air Class", I had never heard of that prior, and then on a TV show, they mentioned it. It's so funny how that works. I'm sending you many hugs to keep your strength up while you do all of your Moms important stuff, along with your own.

Beryl, so our Jo is misbehaving, her looks can only take her so far before, even Savta snaps. Man, it is so difficult when either DGD or DGS3 are having a tude. I'm so much stronger now but it makes our time together a bit stressful. I'm so glad that you are such an involved Savta and loving it. How is Ari?

Nicky, wow, are you actually outside running or in place? You are doing so well with Jari. It's so funny how are fur babies love to come to us when we are on the floor exercising. Henry lays on my belly/chest. He is not light and I figure he must be helping me in strength training. Today is only going to 81, it is glorious out. We are so over the heat and humidity.

Kathie, I, too, am glad that you are writing in your journal. That is so healthy for us. Sorry about all the $$$$$ going out but great on the miles for your BFF. No one can know when a heart mends, I think that their intensions are good, but it just doesn't feel that way, I know.

Dr. Sue, I love your fur babies. They are so expressive and fun. Does Freddo travel with you to camp yet? I'm glad that you spoke up to your parents and sorry about getting lambasted by your Mom. Are you making diced tomatoes or just canning them whole? What do you do with the skin?

Hello Rosey, so awesome to hear from you. It is way hard to stay OP with Grand kids. If I can even eat one meal that is saying something. I just try to stay hydrated, eat some fruit here and there and because I'm moving constantly I'm dead tired by the time they go to bed and very grateful too.

Okay, off to pack and shower, ~hugs to all, Lori

Good morning Team!
Hot and a full morning already. Vacuumed upstairs and down, vacuuming the pool (wouldn't you know it that this morning it is cloudy?) anyway, tomorrow it will be closed, the furnace service tech is here for the annual cleaning and I made some calls to change mom's address to my house. Of course, for some of them I have to send a notice in writing. I will get to that later. The meeting that wasn't...arrived and was told the meeting was canceled...one person on vac. and the other called out sick because she was injured. All was not lost however as I was able to sit down with the PT/OT/Speech T (working on cognitive, not speech) and have a much better understanding of what they're doing and their plan. Got her "end of rehab" date pushed back by about a week, so that's one week later that she will go on self pay. Mom's been pretty weepy the past couple of days so I've spent a little extra time out there. Yesterday afternoon I brought out three beautiful pieces of counted cross stitch that mom did and hung them on her walls. She was really pleased. This afternoon I have pastels class and I'm really pleased. I'll visit this evening after class.
DR SUE, pretty funny about Q. At least it's not the incessant howling and hissing that accompanies a new cat into an already established group. 20 lbs of tomatoes! You are my hero. Dinner sounds wonderful. Share the recipe? I just found some gf gnocchi.
KATHIE, know that I am thinking of you. And please come here to whine; don't let me be the only one...lol. When I was doing martial arts, our instructor always said "fake it til you make it" and I find I use that in all sorts of situations.
BERYL, right there with you on "enjoying" the exercise after it's done, unlike our NICKY who enjoys the whole process.
A good day to all.

Peg

Good morning ladies. So happy to log on and see the posts!
Peg, how was the meeting, if you want to share.
DrSue, good for you! I have never done the CSA, but it always sounds so tempting! I cannot imagine 20 pounds of tomatoes!!
Kathie, you have a lot going on. I'm glad you have your journal to get things down in. And do NOT STOP COMING here because you think you're whining. That's what friends are for.
And are your gas prices going down? Here in Delaware I'm seeing $2.19. Haven't seen that in many years. emoticon
Did a hard muscle pump yesterday in a new Y near me I just don't go to much. Enjoyed getting out of my comfort zone not knowing anyone or the equipment. I enjoyed it afterwards, I should say. lol
Busy at work, and yes, that little pumpkin with the braces is the cutest thing on 2 legs. Asked him if he was married already yesterday and he laughed (silently, since he's mute). Just precious.
Need to get myself together for the Jewish holydays coming up. Cooking....
DH has off Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, but he's redoing the porch, so much as I'd like to go away, it may be a day trip or maybe 2. I need to count my blessings and not whine what I want to happen if it won't.
Back to the never ending paperwork.

DrSue, that's a riot about Quint. I saw that look, years ago on my first dog when my brother brought his new puppy over. Six months later they were best buds. Oh, the memories of the farm share. I did it for a few years and it was like having a part-time job but when winter came we really enjoyed the meals I froze. Sorry your parents are withholding info. Its got to be frustrating.

Beryl I love the little track guy without ever meeting him. Kids like that can put things in perspective, can't they?

Nicky, I hope step mom is OK with the dial-a-ride. Maybe this scared her and she realizes that even if she wasn't at fault that she doesn't have the reflexes to be a good defensive driver anymore. And bravo to her if she admits that.

Lori cruising, what a great thought.

Peg, I'm glad to hear you have some good workshops lined up and that things are settling down (maybe) with your mom. Fingers crossed anyway.

Haven't written because I refuse to whine. I'm going through another rough patch. People like to tell me I'm "doing better" and I hate that; actually I have just gotten better at faking it. And maybe that's my reality now. I have been pouring my heart out in my journal and crying after I take my contacts out. Pretty grim thoughts but maybe writing them will release negative energy.

Still working quite a bit. At $9.75 and hour it takes quite a few hours to amount to a fill up for the car which BTW needs a new oil pan$$$$$$$$. The realtor switch happened yesterday and I put the $$$$$$ deposit for the heating system on my Visa. I will pay it off but at least this way I get miles. I can't leave but I can bring my BFF here from California.

Eating has been terrible. My weight is up. I'm working at getting a handle on it. Trying to remind myself that the comfort from comfort food is gone the minute I stop eating and the results are around my middle a lot longer!!!!

Good morning team. It is going to be very hot today. Ugh!

Rosey! Good for you yesterday! Today is a new day, and you can do it again! emoticon

Beryl and Peg, good luck with your meetings! Tough ones both.

Yesterday was a pretty good day. I did my spin, worked all morning, then I had the afternoon off. I cooked my 20 lb of tomatoes, and milled them. Got my weekly farm haul. It was a haul in the fruit department this week too. Apples, pears, peaches, nectarines, raspberries and a watermelon. Then made my gnocchi butternut squash and kale dish for dinner. I was exhausted!!!! I woke up very sore today.

My best friend got a puppy this weekend. A 7week old boxer. They lost their previous boxer this past winter. He was Quint's best buddy. The expression on Quint's face is priceless when we get him around the puppy. It is a look of complete and utter disgust! I know it will be fine but he is so Jealous his eyes have turned green!

Hello to everyone out there, Nicky, Kellie, Lori, Kathie. I hope all is well. Is Lori cruiseing?
Have a great day!

Good morning Team! Just a quick check in before I head out to the meeting.
BERYL's right, ROSEY. You did it yesterday and all we do is one day, meal, sometimes minute at a time. Good for you!
BERYL, on the track team? That's fabulous!
DR SUE, right, why would they share? Mom's growing up during the depression so influenced her and that is why all her assets will now go to the facility...because she was so afraid of not having control that none of them were put into a trust or signed over or whatever. No worry about that with the DDs...they'll just have to divide up my debts...lol. Glad your parents will have some year round neighbors. That is quite a remote area for aging parents.
Hope everyone has a good day.

Peg

Hi girls, I am still busy with grandkids, mostly DJ, 8, who I have everyweekend and Mathieu,3, whose parents are divorcing. Of course I still pick up 1 or more when I can.
I am still under the wagon wheels sliding in the mud. fell off the healthy wagon and cant seem to get back on it. Some days I make it thru most of the day then I just eat and eat. So frustrated and upset with myself. Today I am all alone so I managed to cut grass and do yard work. Am now doing laundry and dishes, trying to keep busy
Just want to take a moment and BRAG ON ALL YOU WONDERFUL EATING HEAlTHY, EXERCISING GALS!!! You ROCK.
I will keep trying and hopefully 1 day I can say that "I DID IT" so for ALL the rest of us who haven't reached the place where we need to be, just keep trying.
Rosey Jo

I will try and try again until I get it right!!!

Good evening team. Late to the party so catching up on your posts.
Peg, it's so hot here too, the pool would be a welcome one. I was going to walk today, but went inside to the Y and did it. Way too hot. UGH. And with my lovely office and all the windows, it's like a rotisserie. And I'm the chicken. lol I'll be thinking about you tomorrow at the meeting.
DrSue, good for you for standing up for yourself. You're absolutely right, of course. I think that generation just doesn't/didn't talk about things like that. Not their health, they don't question anything--it's just different and they don't see how it can affect us.
Nicky, when I do muscle pump I use 12 or 15 pound weighted bars, and when we do chest presses I use both of them. I'm sore by the end, that's for sure. Good for you.
Couldn't sleep last night--up really early (and has anyone noticed how dark it is in the mornings now??). Early to work. Not that busy a day--only had half the school, so I was able to be on top of things. TOmorrow is a meeting about the medically fragile student. I may not even be able to be there since there's no one to cover for me. We'll see though. The spec ed kids this year are so stinking cute. I have a little fellow who wears diapers, is nonverbal, wears braces on his legs, and is on the track team!! Love it!!
Have a good evening ladies! emoticon

Hello to my team on a very HOT night. A very busy day at work.

Peg, I'm glad you are less stressed with having your Mom safe. I know there is a lot to stress over, but as you said, that is stuff. Parents and such are a trip. Not always a god one.

My Dad is very cagey about him being diabetic. He will say no, cause his pills keep his BG in order. I confronted them because they need to tell us about issues. So much is really genetic.
Of all people my mother flipped out on me and told me it was "NONE OF OUR BUSINESS"

I was proud of myself because I went calm. I told my parents, it was a great attitude. You have glaucoma, I could go be severely affected because you didn't feel like sharing. God forbid you would share that you had breast cancer, or dad has prostate cancer, because sharing might save our lives. Thanks. That made an impression. Not sure it lasted. Getting a life alert has fallen flat more than once.

Peg, you have seen where they live. The good news is several lake families are retiring there, so they finally have neighbors, year round. The youngest was one of my oldest brothers peers. He is 50 something and wonderfully checks in on his neighbors.

I'm hot miserable and didn't sleep last night. I'm sorry I'm not addressing everyone (Beryl). Good luck with kids back. All my teachers are going back and dreading kid day!

Good evening Team!
Went for a bike ride this morning before it got too hot. About 10 miles, not quite what I got up to last year. This year's riding has been pretty inconsistent. Brutally hot humid weather ahead...of course, 'cause the pool will be closed on Thurs. Either that or the end of October and then I have to deal with leaves. And I can use one less thing to thin about.
NICKY, glad you like the new workout. Cauli rice? just grated cauli, right? I used to do that and saute it with some onion and coconut oil...delish! Mom stopped driving when a doctor told her she shouldn't be driving anymore. Took her a few months before she actually sold her car, but she did not drive. I am calmer. I think not worrying about her safety is a big help. Now I have to worry about her $ and house and stuff...but, it's just stuff...
DR SUE, how wonderful to be out on a boat...I'm drooling. As for your laid back trainer, how cute.
Hoping my team is having a good day.
Tomorrow is the "team meeting" re mom's care plan. Should be interesting...

Peg

DRSUE, you'll have to consider firing your personal trainer. emoticon
Gunther waits until the yoga instructor has the "relaxation voice" before he comes over to my yoga mat and inserts himself. He pants on me. I'd rather have him near me, so I'm not really complaining.

I was able to use 25# dumbells for the chest press yesterday! I like the routines so far of heavy lifting. It starts with a 1/4-mile run, warm ups, the heavy lift routine, usually two or three exercises done 8-12 times for 3 reps, a 1/4-mile run cool-down, and then stretches. It takes me about 45-60 minutes, and I've been burning around 550 calories per session. Nice change from Jari Love, endless reps with lighter weights.

Managed to even stay OP this weekend, although it was really too hot to eat.

PEG, the routine will come soon. You sound calmer.
I, too, love apples. It's a little too early here, but the organic CA grapes are starting to come in. I like to freeze them and have little Popsicle treats.

Trader Joe's got the cauliflower rice back in stock (in a bag in the freezer section). They run out as soon as they get them in, so I stocked up. Too lazy to make lit myself, although I do make cauliflower mashed.

Step mom is going to apply for the city's "Dial-a-Ride. I'm not saying anything to her about continuing to drive. The DMV might make that decision for her; she's afraid to drive right now any way. I think the senior should make decision BEFORE it is taken away by another or agency.
I hope by the time I may need that kind of help driverless cars will be on the road. I'm not too proud to get an i-Car.

When you arise in the morning,

give thanks for the morning light, for your life and strength.

Give thanks for your food and the joy of living.

Good morning team. It was a glorious weekend. I slept poorly Thursday night, woke with GI pain. Not sure what that was about. By the time I finished work Friday. I was fried. DH and I went to lunch. Beryl maybe you are a good influence on me. I went home and took a nap. I NEVER can sleep during the day. I woke up not feeling horrible. Sat and Sunday I was invited out on a friends boat. We were able to sail Sat, no wind Sunday, so we motored. My Best friend picked up her new boxer puppy yesterday. So cute.

Yesterday I did a 75 min tough spin. I was joined by Freddo, who plopped onto my handlebars and went to sleep. Didn't care about the bike noises/ vibrations. Didn't care about me sweating on him. Didn't bite me. So I guess I have new, more laid back personal trainer.

Peg, I am sorry you have yo deal with the anger of dementia. I am glad you had such a great visit with your mom yesterday. I also hope you are continuing your plein air class.

Beryl, sorry about the ugly meeting. I hope you get back into your school routine easily.

Kathie, I'm am so happy to hear you are working on a new piece. Also for your day off complete with massage.

Nicky, sorry your SM had such a stress out. She is lucky to have you. I am with you in a "no drama" life.

Lori, I hope you enjoy the trip. So exciting!

I'm off to get ready for work emoticon

Good evening Team!
Did the mowing and even dead headed some flowers and then the skies opened up. Went to my favorite farmer's market. Some apples are available already and I do love fresh local apples. Got a few of the variety "swiss gourmet" aka arlet and some bartlett pears and carrots, potatoes, corn, onions and locally made hummus. Watched a pastel painting video by one of my painting heroes, Richard McKinley (from Oregon). (His was the workshop I couldn't make it to this year, but I've already signed up for his 2016 workshop which will be about 30 miles from where I live.) Time flies and it will soon be time for the workshop with Elizabeth Mowry in Oct. which is only 15 -20 minutes away. Looking forward to both of them and with mom in a safe place I feel good about attending. Tomorrow morning will go for a bike ride with ex-hubs.
BERYL, DB's eye surgery is Sept 8th. The visit with mom this morning went well and I did bring some wonderful coffee and cranberry orange gf muffins. We sat outside in this great little courtyard, chatted, drank coffee and ate a muffin. Left one there in the "nutrition center" so mom can have it later or even tomorrow. Yesterday when I went she had her clothes packed up because "people were coming in to take and then sell them". Needless to say, I put them all back into her closet and (at least temporarily) calmed her fears.
Tomorrow will have to include some banking for mom and following up on the POAs I delivered to the banks last week, as well as some calls about med. bills she's receiving from her hospitalization last Dec. Thinking a fresh cup of coffee will be needed before I start making those calls lol.
Hope everyone had a good day. LORI should be on her way, right? I think I missed my window of opportunity to stow away in her luggage.

Happy Sunday team! Gorgeous day today. We need rain desperately. Can't remember the last time it did.
Party was odd. This woman lives in the most spectacular, custom build home you've ever seen. Decorated to the max. Just gorgeous. In ground pool, full apartment downstairs...unreal. She's just adorable, and her husband has long hair and tatts.Very different from her. Well, the friends were hilarious. As my other friend said, they could have filmed an episode of Duck Dynasty there. Lots of long hair, leather, tattoos, and beards going on. Very nice folks, just was a culture shock. Had a drink and 2 pieces of celery. Too early for me to eat.
Up .4........not happy.
Rode my bike for an hour, then off to a groupon massage. Can't wait. Carters is having a big sale so I'll hit there on the way home. WOuld love to do muscle pump later but we'll see about the time. Or zumba. We'll see. I have things to do before school tomorrow.
Peg, how about mornings/lunchtime visits? Didn't DB have a surgery? How did it go?
Have a good day everyone!

Good morning Team!
Cloudy and I think t-storms may be in our future today. Not much happening here. Think I'll stop at Mother Earth and pick up a couple of coffees and a gf muffin to take to mom. I have to figure out what time of day woks best for me to go visit. Afternoons are not great because then the day is cut in half and I don't feel like doing anything when I get home. Eenings would be good, but that's when DB can get there and I'd like our visits to be spread out so she has more visitor time. This, too, will work out.
Hoping my team is having a good day.
BERYL, how was the b'day party?

Hi team. Gorgeous Saturday here. Went to WI (up .4), then to a new park to walk and really enjoyed it. Then waited an hour to do a recycling/shredding drop off, now getting ready for my nap. A friend is having a birthday party this afternoon so I'll get up and go for a bit. It's a long drive, but DH doesn't finish work till 6 and we aren't taking 2 cars, so I'll come home and we'll go out to dinner then. Whatever.
Nicky, I love that phrase. I'm going to totally use it now. Thank you. Sorry you had to go through that. And "no drama" is my new catchphrase too.
Peg, is she eligible for medicaid at this point? I'd hope the social worker/accounts person at rehab was helping you navigate this whole system. That's their job and trust me--they'd way rather have her there and be assured of money coming in! I'd think they could arrange for something until she's cleared, at least. Is there an assisted living facility there? Or close where she could go?
Lori, I'm a last minute packer too. I'm a last minute everything even though I try and not be!
Off to my nap. Have a good afternoon ladies.

Good morning Team!
Another beautiful morning and hear I sit, chatting with you instead of starting to tackle the mountain of paperwork I schlepped over from mom's. Got a call from the facility yesterday advising that the rehab portion will end on 9/3 which then means she goes on self pay. I understand that she wouldn't be on rehab forever, but she still has the neck brace on and hasn't been cleared by the neuro guy. She goes back to him in three weeks and will have xrays and a scan done before then so I would think the rehab would last until then. Another thing to check out with them and then, I guess, I'll have to appeal. I don't want her to have to start paying $11,000. plus each month before she has to.
NICKY, I so understand the meltdown and think it comes from their feeling of powerlessness as well as being thought of as having fault in the accident. Once it's their "fault", then comes the thought of having to give up driving as well as the increase in insurance premiums. It's all about not having control over their own life (which is the hardest thing for mom; she was, and tries still to be, so fiercely independent...and yes, it's genetic, I'm afraid...poor DDs)
LORI, I never pack early, either. I had a cat who would jump into the suitcase and wouldn't get out. They know when something is going on. Don't worry if your luggage feels unusually heavy; it's just me stowing away.
BERYL, flexibility in working hours is pretty nice, right? Sorry that will change once the kiddies get back. As for Jo, cuteness wins out!

How dear you are, BERYL, to say you love my posts! It's cathartic for me, almost Dear Diary stuff. I feel so comfortable with this Team, safe.

ROSEY, you are one of the Girls, and, we mean it when we tell you to post your heart out. We gals gotta stick together.
Heaven knows, it's rarely sunshine and roses. No one escapes this life without pain and sorrow. It's that pain that permits us to know and appreciate when the good times come, even the little things. There's always SOMETHING for which to be grateful.

PEG, my step mom had a meltdown two days ago. She has been obsessing over the left-turn car accident she had in June. The insurance adjuster says it's probably going to be "shared responsibility." She's out of her mind in anger and was heaving sobbing and repeating over and over that it wasn't fair.
She cried that she needed help. I have never heard her so out of control. I asked how I could help. She wanted to go to Kaiser right then and there to find out about sending her hospital bills to the other driver's insurance. Actually, it's none of her business because if Kaiser wants to be reimbursed, they have a third party that goes after it. With shared responsibility, I imagine, they'll just call it a wash.

I told her I'd take her on Monday but that I wasn't going to go down the crazy hole with her because somebody had to stay on top to pull her out. She settled down a bit after I said that.
I DO NOT DO DRAMA. I am rarely irrational. Irrationality makes me angry. It's a character flaw.

LORI, you must tell us about your adventures! How could you not pack until next week???!!! I would have packed and unpacked several times by now. I usually empty out my closet of all possibilities and color coordinations and then cull every day. Too many shoes; too many tops and jackets, never fails.

When you arise in the morning,

give thanks for the morning light, for your life and strength.

Give thanks for your food and the joy of living.

If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies in yourself.

Good Friday evening team. Lori, thanks for filling us in We're all going to live vicariously through you! Don't worry about the scale. You're eating well, exercising--the scale will catch up.
Lot of paperwork today, but got a lot done. Tonight we sponsored the food and drinks at temple so the kids came. Jo is not good there, but it was fine. She wasn't awful, and is so darn cute, most folks don't care.
I left work in the middle of the day for my lunch to do zumba. When the kids are there, I am not permitted to leave the building, so this is such a treat!
Tomorrow will be WI, then a walk, then my nap, then a birthday party for a friend. Nice day.
Hope everyone is doing well. Have a great evening ladies! emoticon

Hello Team,

7 days and counting. Next Friday, we will fly to our beloved destination, of course, after the transfers and layovers, but walking on the ship will start our fantasy, the ship is Disney Fantasy so how appropriate is this.

Well, as for packing, I can't yet start. It's difficult with Livvy and Henry jumping into the suitcases and they start getting anxious when I bring suitcases in. Next week I will slowly start and give them the extra love that they will need.

I've been OP and walking on the treadmill, yet the scale continues to climb. I am beyond frustrated but will continue on my WLJ. I already have movies to put on my iPad while I'm walking on the treadmill on the ship. All the Treadmills and elypticals face the ocean front windows.

Peg, as Beryl said, you are a loving devoted daughter. I know that it is hard to hear your Mom say the things she does to you, let us lift you up, keep up your plein air classes and your evening glass of wine.

Kathie, I'm glad the massage helped you. I hope that you enjoy your humane society function. My beloved Uncle left all that he had to the humane society.

Beryl, enjoy the time, as I know you will, between now and the first day.

Dr. Sue, I do hope that you don't work too hard.

Hello to all of my team, ~hugs, Lori

Good evening ladies. Loooooong day. The meeting was every bit as ugly as I thought it would be. And more. It was just not for me. UGH. But it's done.
Went to the gym afterwards and did 30 minutes on the elliptical and 30 on the treadmill. Felt good to sweat.
Peg, sounds like a lovely day. I'm glad the meeting is coming up and you're comfortable with the decision.
Kathie, a massage sounds like just the thing you needed for that mishap. and a day off too!
I use canned vegetarian beans, then add a whole onion, some fake bacon, ketchup and BBQ sauce, and bake it all. They're really good.
Last work day tomorrow before the kids start Monday. Better make the most of it!
Have a good evening

Peg, so glad you had a beautiful day for the plein air class. Sounds like a gorgeous setting for it. It must be hard to listen to the dementia speaking with your mother's voice but it sounds like you can separate that from the real her. I think she will adjust especially if she can find a way to be helpful.

Beryl, nurses' meeting, yuck. Probably every bit as bad as the faculty meetings were. Or team meetings when I worked at the Fed. I wish there was a decent exercise class in this town. Having access to good classes is something I am really looking forward to.

Had a real day off. The only item on my calendar was my monthly massage. She was able to fix my neck & shoulders which were really tight. I think averting the header down the stairs did more damage than the box that hit me. So I'm fine now and relaxed. Spent some time on the new piece I'm working on. And I can spend some time tomorrow but I have my volunteer shift at the charity store in the afternoon.

Need to make a double batch of baked beans for a dinner party I am helping with on Saturday. Its a fund raiser for our humane society. I've never made baked beans and generally don't like them much. I found a recipe that didn't sound gross to me. I will make them either tonight or tomorrow since I am working on Saturday.

Hi to everyone. Hope you are all doing well.

Good afternoon team!
A beautiful day which I started at a plein air class and got to drink in the mountains and fields. Saw a heron fly overhead and a red fox ran through the field. Glorious! Then to mom's to wait for the service tech to come and do the annual cleaning for the furnace. Just stopped home to grab something to eat...fresh from the garden tomato on a toasted gf english muffin with a little mayo...delish. Now, off to the grocery store (for some reason Ruby is a little unhappy when I run out of dog food) and then to visit mom. And then...glass of wine time!
BERYL, to answer your question, I had eventually come to realize that it was the dementia talking, so I'm good there, although it's still difficult to listen to. But it is helpful having an idea of what stage she is in. I had no way of judging so it's good to hear it from a professional and also makes the decision of residential living a little easier to deal with. I was so afraid to make the wrong decision for her, but both doctors have finally just said that this is what she needs. I have a meeting with the "interdisciplinary team" on Tues. DB will try to be there, too, but as his wife is having a med. procedure that morning, it may not work out. Hope you survive the meetings. I think "nurses' meetings" are every bit as bad as the "teachers' meetings" I remember.
Wishing a good day to all.

Peg

Good evening team. Long day, and not high energy dance fusion tonite--we had a sub. Better than doing nothing, I guess.
Made a really good tortilla casserole for dinner tonight with a tomato/avocado salad.
LOng day of ugly meetings tomorrow. Nurses meetings all day. OMG, I will want to kill myself by 10. The moaning and whining and complaining will drive me mad.
Peg, do you think knowing she's in the "middle" stage of dementia will make it easier for you--knowing she isn't "really" mad at you or unhappy? That's just the dementia talking and she'll forget and things will be fine? I hope you know what an extraordinary daughter you are. I'm overwhelmed by your devotion. I am glad you got to go to pastels today and see friends.
I haven't had the gumption to contact Comcast yet. I just don't have the energy to listen to their excuses.
Kathie, that really sucks apples and I'm glad you weren't hurt worse. You certainly could have been.

Good evening Team!
What a crazy couple of days. Yesterday mom had a followup appt. with the neuro guy for her neck. That went well, the facility arranged transportation and I met her at the office. Appt. was ok. Transportation came to take her back and I told her I'd be there in a few minutes. I walk in and who's "haulin'" down the corridor with a very pi$$ed off face? that's right...mom. She started yelling at me, that I pulled one over on her and sent to that place...yada yada yada. She was one very angry lady. Tried to explain, but she was having none of it. So I wheeled her back to the nurses' station area and left. Her last words to me...You're leaving me with sharks! Tonight I went to see her and as expected, she didn't remember any of it. Was told this was one of her best days and she was asking staff what she could do to help at mealtime. And that's how it will go, I'm afraid. was able to speak to the facility's doctor and he places her in the "late middle' stages of dementia. Spent all morning at soc. sec. for mom stuff and after waiting 3 hours, was told that I didn't need to be there, but should submit by mail. Are you kidding me? Oh well, I'm home and I have my glass of wine. Did go to pastels class today...yay me...and met with two friends about the art show we are having in October.
LORI, 10 days! wonderful!
BERYL, good luck with medically complicated student.
DR SUE, hope the day went well. I've been low on energy, too, and I'm blaming it on the weather and full moon that's coming.
KATHIE, glad there was positive feedback and yes, I will temper my enthusiasm. Nice that you could bring the dogs with you. Crappy about the UPS guy.
NICKY. hope directv is all better now. I think there is lots of people helping people; we just don't hear about it because that's not interesting to the news watchers or the paper buyers.
ROSEY, I'm echoing what has been said by the rest of the team...post post post, especially when things are not going so well. We're here!
KELLIE, where are you?
A good evening to all!

Beryl, that can happen, especially on Sat mornings. But not usually. I have drilled it into the staff. I'm fine filling an emergency slot with something routine the day of. Such mrs so and so called at nine fifteen looking to get in for vaccines on sat am and we give her the 9:45 emergency slot. I lose my temper if emergency spots are filled before that day.

Enjoy being back at work. Sorry about your medically challenged case. I hope it goes well. I need to think about going back to work. Thinking.....

Hi all. Back at work and busier than a one armed paperhanger. lol.
Getting a VERY medically complicated student who I am praying does not come....let's see how that works.
Lori, glad you got to see your family!
DrSue, do you have staff issues? My brother is always complaining how the staff puts in "emergency" appts that are not, and clog up the schedule and the day. Do you have that issue? My guess is it's my brother.
Going to do Dance Fusion tonight. Looking forward to it. Feeling like a slug today. They had a luncheon for us at 11. What is that?? That's breakfast! So I skipped it and will be starving soon. I brought a salad and soup for lunch so I'll be good. With fruit for dessert.
Back to work. Have a good day ladies!

Happy kind of hump day team! Only kind of for me since I work Sat too. Work has been still very busy, and I'm exhausted. I have been OP. Sluggishly OP. I did my spin yesterday, I was sweating trying to get in the zone, but my HR. Is nowhere up where it should be. I'm still conscious of too much resistance for my Achilles, but my muscles seem so tired. Am I just getting old???

Rosey, hang in there. Enjoy your kidlets, and keep posting.

Nicky, I frequently carry mace in NY. Could be human or wildlife problems. Not so much here.
Marblehead is a cross between a small town with not much crime, and a busy bedroom community to Boston. So not much crime, and enough people milling around that there is not enough privacy for crimes of opportunity.

Beryl, I wondered how you were doing 2 major workouts a day. I am trudging through the days.

Peg, it sounds like your mom is settling in, despite her complaints to you. emoticon
I hope you are getting some sleep.

Kathie, I'm glad the showing went well, I know you won't get your hopes up. I'll do it for you, plus getting those body parts crossed again for you.

Lori, you must be so excited about your cruise. Have you packed and unpacked 6 times yet???

Ok ladies. I'm going to do my mini spin to loosen up for my WTF wed. I call it that because for a long time Wed was the slow day of the week. Then about 4 months ago it would look slow on the appointment sheet, but all hades breaks loose. Emergencies, walk-ins, sick kids. Basically mayhem. Plus I know I have a 5:30 appointment tonight, so it will be a long day. emoticon

Hello team,

10 days and counting till the cruise. This past weekend we had a bday party, up in Clovis at DD1's home for my Brother. It was very nice, hot, but nice. I got to see my Dad too. That was very sweet.

Kathie, maybe this time them saying they really liked it will be it. Great about Ceecee and your bonus.

Beryl, I'm glad that you switched things up at the Y, but sorry for the pain.

Peg, I haven't seen you post any me time, aside from mowing the lawn. How are you sleeping?

Dr. Sue, great job on finishing up your 15000 steps. I'm glad you got some good sleep.

Rosey Jo, so happy to hear from you. We care about you and your happiness.

Nicky, This weather has been oppressive. Not another Direct TV guy, sheesh.

I did my treadmill and some gardening in.

~hugs, Lori

Very cold here (55 and raining) so I was able to take the dogs when I went to work. They love being in a car and it seemed the best option for the showing. Dogs were fine in the car, sleeping when I came out of work. Ceecee was fine when I got home. She was out of her big soft crate and the agent had turned off all the lights and locked the doors.

The feedback was good. They loved the house and are thinking about it, etc. I've heard that before so I have no expectations. Thursday's showing was canceled. The people are not coming up this weekend. Means I can get my stuff out and work in the studio.

Work was OK until I got hit hard in the leg by a box the UPS man threw at me. I know it was unintentional but when I answered the door and took some small boxes from him I said "give me a minute, I'm not young or fast". I turned around was putting the boxes down at the top of the stairs & he threw a big heavy box down the short flight and it hit me hard. I was lucky to keep my balance and not take a header down the long flight of stairs. I'm OK now, just a bruise but it could have been awful. But at least my paycheck was decent and contained a bonus from sidewalk sale.

Charlie is licking himself again and has licked a bare spot on one front paw. We used to have a topical treatment for him. I need to look for it but I wonder if he has some anxiety issues. He's 12. Ceecee has been eating and that's good.

Nicky, I LOVE your posts. Talk about a glass half full girl! I love it. And except for getting over creatures, you're always spot on.
RoseyJo, stay with us. When we're doing well, support is optional. When we struggle, that's when we need each other. Stay with us!! We miss you when you aren't here.
Long day. Several meetings, zumba, and work. Work officially starts tomorrow. More meetings. Did I mention I HATE meetings?? It's like the FB funny that says "I went to a meeting that could have been accomplished with a well written email". So true.
CHicken and tofu stir fry for dinner. Might have been better if the soba noodles weren't overcooked, but it's fine. Planning and packing breakfasts and lunches.
Hope all is well with those who haven't checked in today--Peg, Kathie, Lori, and anyone else I missed.
Have a good evening ladies. emoticon

PEG, it brought a tear to my eye to hear your mom helped feed a fellow resident! I have goose bumps. Humans being humans; we sure don't see too much of that any more, it seems.

Those American young men who took down a would-be terrorist on the train to Paris!!!! I'm so proud to be an American. Thank you parents for coming to this country!!!

BERYL, you gotta get over it, flies and crawling things and such. emoticon
I never liked the WW Boards. THIS Team is my sisterhood.

ROSEY, please don't ever hesitate to post, ESPECIALLY if you are depressed. You are stronger than you think you are. Look at you!! You get things done while your DH is on the road, and you take care of little children!

I just heard today in a podcast something I think I already knew, but the way the podcaster explained it really hit home~~~~ANXIETY triggers the same brain chemicals that are released in HUNGER. That's the connection!
I think there's also a self-soothing component. I don't use my breathing techniques or minute-meditations enough.

KATHIE, what an organizer you are! Will you take the house off the market in the winter, or is this real estate agent more savvy about selling properties in that neck, literally, of the woods?

PEG, are you sleeping better? How about your anxiety level today? Does your mom have all sorts of junk mixed in with some really fine antiques and paintings and such the way my step mom does?

We're going to go hrough another hot and muggy week here in Los Angeles. Goody. I have to go into Beverly Hills for lunch on Thursday. NOT my favorite place; BH is sooooo not me, and it's a bit inland from me a couple of miles and much hotter.
I don't understand why the Muslim women can't wear at least white gauze head covers in the heat of the summer.

When you arise in the morning,

give thanks for the morning light, for your life and strength.

Give thanks for your food and the joy of living.

If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies in yourself.

Hi girls, I am not doing so well at all. I am tying with Mathieu, 3 yr old grandson, squished in chair next to me LOL. Makes typing a challenge for sure. Eating is out of control and exercise is keeping up with Mathieu or whatever grandchild is with me. Had Mathieu last week as he was sick with hand, mouth, and foot virus and impetigo too. Poor little fellow was not feeling good for sure.
I struggle with depression and although I am much improved since seeing a counselor, the last few weeks have been hard. I know what to do but during these periods I withdraw and use whatever energy I have to do what is necessary. It is hard to explain but keeping our grandchildren has helped a lot but there is still thar stupid little voice that is so negative.
I so enjoy hearing of the success ya'll all have made. Gives me hope
It is so hot here that going outside is awful. Our heat index today was 105 and it has been hovering around 100 most of the last month.
I will try to be here more often
Thank you all for caring
ROSEY

I will try and try again until I get it right!!!

OK, I Know no one wants to hear how I have freaked out every night on DH because I've seen flies in the house.....I am NOT an outside person. The beach is it. I love walking in the park but I'm on alert the whole time. And Nicky, it's smart to walk with pepper spray. When I'm walking alone, in the woods, I sometimes think that's not smart to do. It is sad, but smart.
Peg, maybe your mom is exaggerating how much she dislikes it because she knows it gets you worked up? I'm so glad she seems to be settling in, even if she thinks she works there. Helps everyone, and she's happy. Win/win! I have no doubt she is making friends there and meeting people.
Did muscle pump and zumba today. I'm so, so tired. This twice a day workout is getting to me. I' ready for a break. With work. lol. How pathetic is that?? lol
I think about our friends--Rosey, Kellie, and who am I missing? Heidi isn't on here anymore, but I do see her on FB. Lori, hopefully, is just busy. I am on WW boards, and could take or leave them. But this board is my lifeline. So thank you all!
Did Whole Foods tonight so off to eat dinner.
Have a good evening!

Nicky that's terrible about the rats. Yuck! No rats here but plenty of other critters. Right now I have an infestation of red squirrels. We used to have a fox family that took care of the problem. I've tried trapping them but finally asked a friend to come over with his gun. I know. Poor things but they are so destructive.

To answer your question, I usually take off with my pack while the house is being shown. My driveway is 1/4 mile long so I go out to the road and park near the mailbox. That way I can see them come & go. But tomorrow I have to work and there was no one I could swap hours with so I am leaving the pack on the porch. Its completely enclosed and I have double glass doors so people can see in. I know the showing agent so we talked about it. He will let them out and give them all treats when the showing is over. On Thursday I'll be home so we will "pack up babies and grab the old lady & everyone goes". That's the song I sing to them when I load the 3 of them up for a showing or when Ceecee goes to the vet & the dogs ride along for the fun of it.

I'm pretty much ready for tomorrow. I will get cleaned up tonight & lay out my clothes. I'll make my salad tonight too. I have a checklist that I go through just before the showing. I've done it so many times but I still write the list so I don't forget something. I am so tired of this drill.

Peg, that's so cute that your mom thinks she's on duty. Glad to hear she is doing her PT. Hope you get some answers soon.

DrSue, I like the sound of that pizza. I didn't grow basil this year. Miss the pesto a lot. Ceecee is doing good but her appetite is still not good. She's eating about 1/3 cup of her k/d now. But you should have seen her last night when I grilled a lamb burger. She came trotting out purring like a kitty. She can't work her way up to the island anymore so she begs like a dog and I have her small pieces of it because she has to eat something! She's taking an appetite stimulant every 3rd day.

Beryl, Good for you cleaning out the cabinet and your car. I need to vacuum mine out and wash my canvas cover from the dog compartment. Seems like I just did it but it needs it again. We just keep tracking in the pine needles.

Lori, hope all is well and the reason you haven't posted is that you are busy getting ready for your wonderful cruise.

Hi Kellie if you are reading.

Have to share...went to see mom and she complained "I hate it here". Then she waved and smiled at a couple of the residents who waved and smiled back (she explained "we're not good friends") and one of the aides told me that at breakfast she helped feed another resident who had a stroke and has difficulty eating...smh and smiling

BERYL, the baby rat was on the window sill OUTSIDE my bedroom window. I have screens on my windows. Nevertheless, IT WAS A RAT, AND, IT WAS IN PLAIN SIGHT!!

PEG, that is almost too adorable that your mom believes she works at the rehab. Bless her heart. She raised a great kid.

Well, another Monday and another visit from DirecTV. I've lost count how many times they've been here. This time the tech was a "supervisor" sent from the headquarters, or something. I think the problem may actually be solved this time.

I get just about daily calls from step mom about her accident. Even after I explained that these car accident matters are never handled quickly and that she has insurance to take care of the issues, she frets and can't sleep. She's a Gold Medalist in the Forward Freaking Event.

DRSUE, your pizza sounds sooooo good. Can't remember the last time I ate pizza.
My house is 103 years old. Could never close up all the cracks to keep out critters. We lock the dog door at night these days. Even though we're in the city, with all the construction going on everywhere up in the hills, the coyotes and raccoon come down the mountain. It's a jungle out there!

I've been thinking about ROSEY and sure hope she's hanging in there.

KATHIE, eager to hear how the showings went. Do you stay in the house while it is being shown, or disappear somewhere?
A friend had some jewelry stolen at an open house some years ago. Such a shame we can't just trust any more.
I walk with pepper spray. How sad is that?

Good morning Team!
NICKY, ewww...in your room? I deal with mice and bats, but never had a rat in the house. Many years ago we had them in the wooded area behind the house and they encroached into the yard and shed. We trapped quite a few and they were large. Haven't seen them in a long time. Can anyone "official" talk to the construction company. Seems that's a health hazard with which the local health department would take action. Great job on the new exercise program. I'm going to check out that link, too.
DR SUE, and let's hear it for the neighborhood terminator! You were very very busy this weekend. You are the cleaning inspiration! Mom is doing the PT. Today I'll try to see all her providers...PT and doctor to try to get a handle on it all. Amazing how they don't contact family members.
Mom's big delusion now is that she is working there, has responsibilities and needs to keep track. "They" say nurses are the worst...lol
Wishing a good day for everyone!

Oh Beryl, did I laugh! I'm not sure you'd like the camp. This year has been pretty good, but when I was last there Fredo proved to be a good mouser. Two KIA's. I was proud of the little guy.

Peg, it would be great if your a Mom could go to assisted living. Is she doing her PT? Or is that what she is being stubborn about? Glad you enjoyed your massage. Perhaps you should go more often during this stressful time.

Nicky, your new workout program sounds painful, but good. I live next yo a school, when summer comes the rats go out into the neighborhood since the dumpster buffet is more or less closed. We have not had too much of a problem since Clayton moved into the neighborhood. Clayton is an outdoor Bad a$$ of a hunting cat. My animals HATE seeing him in the yard, but no rats.

Kathie, two showings, good luck! I'm sure this is such a great time to show your house. How is your kitty?

Well, I was mainly OP this weekend. I have stuck to my workouts, went dancing Sat night to a New Orleans jazz duo. The NOLA music is so bittersweet to me, I have such great memories and such aweful ones. (My DB lived and died there). However, I was with freinds and we had a good time. Yesterday, I did a 70 min spin, cooked cleaned, walked the dog, visited friends, cooked and cleaned some more. I wanted pizza last night so I made my whole wheat dough, my own pesto and made a shrimp and pesto pizza for one. Yummy!! emoticon Now I have three portions of dough to go! I also made a toasted barley, shiitake and green bean salad with tofu. It is a great salad, but very labor intensive. So I guess I'm set for food for the week. I need to scurry of to get ready for work. My associate is away, so it's all me. I'm tired already!

Hello to everyone out there.

Sounds like the weekend went well for most of you!

I'm in my second week of the new weight lifting program to which I subscribe. Did 10 barbell bent rows (40#), 20 pushups, 10 Burpees (Gawd, I HATE those!) for 3 sets. Ran on the treadmill both before and after the weights for .5 mi each time, warm-ups and stretches and after. It was torture, but, oddly, loved it!
It's recommended to follow the program 3 days per week, each day, of course, being a different set of exercises.
We're supposed to walk the other days, which I do any way.

Today is yoga day.

BERYL, take a peek at the Jarrow brand product called "Bone Up."
Turns out Vitamin K2 assists calcium to be laid down into the bones rather than the endothelium, Let's say, and many bone-building supplements don't include it.

Also, Mira Calton was diagnosed with full-on osteoporosis at the age of 30, or something. She was able to completely reverse it with the help of her future husband, Jason Calton.
Perhaps you'd get some ideas from their website.

eoporosis

KATHIE, how great would that be to have interested parties in your house!
Loons-----I LOVE loons. I have two wood carvings that l purchased from a local artist in Maine. I treasure them.
Between the bullfrogs and the loons, never got a decent night's sleep while visiting my friends near Portland, Maine.

PEG, where there are weeds, there is life. I love to see dandelions come up, and I don't even mind oxalis any more.

There is always construction in my neighborhood. The workers throw their chicken bones and odd bits of food in the bushes. First, my Gunther feasts on these things he finds, but, more importantly, it brings RATS to our neighborhood. It's a really exclusive neighborhood, but it's like we're living a third-world country around here! DH found a dead rat in our little river that goes into the fish pond. When he lifted it out, pellets of DE-con, or whatever, fell out and went right into the pond. Geez.
A baby rat ran across the windowsill the other day up in my bedroom!
Next thing you know we'll have a Plague outbreak.

The contractors should be instructing the workers to clean up after themselves. I'm furious.

When you arise in the morning,

give thanks for the morning light, for your life and strength.

Give thanks for your food and the joy of living.

If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies in yourself.

NOOOOO! not the goodbye calls, KATHIE. I dread spotting the first big V of geese heading south. Mom will not be returning to her home, that's pretty clear. I don't know if she is good enough for assisted living; that's the real question. She may just be staying where she is. I hung a bird feeder outside her room window yesterday. None of my gardens look very good, either. The heat and lack of rain really did them in. The weeds? Now, that is a totally different story lol. I'm back to crossing body parts.
Did a little outside work...raked where I had mowed because the grass (ok, the weeds) were so high that I can't let the cuttings lay there. Cut back some lilies and hosta flower stems and that's about it. Taking a shower then off to see mom. There's a church service this afternoon at the facility and I will try to get there on time to take her to that.

Good early afternoon team.
Peg, you absolutely did inspire me. Did more in the kitchen too. Lots more to go. DH is redoing our porch so the screening is down so I'm finding flies in the house. Skeeve me out.
Kathie, I'm sure you'll get everything done. Is this through the former realtor who no longer represents you?
Did a 60 minute bike ride this morning at our riverfront and didn't hate it as much as I could have. lol. Either doing zumba or muscle pump later. We'll see. I also need to hit the farmers market.
Have a good day all!

Quick check-in. Glad to hear the weather in the east is better. Its a lovely day here.

After no showings since the first week in June and canceling my listing (effective then end of the month) I suddenly have 2 showings this week. So today & tomorrow when I am off from work I will get the house & yard ready. I let the annuals go during sidewalk sale so my pitiful excuse for a garden is looking pretty ragged and the drought has done its damage to the ferns and some of the perennials. Not much I can do with that so I will concentrate on shining up the house. Lots on my list before Tuesday morning but plenty of time to get it done.

Peg, do consider assisted living for your mom. Safer for her and a life for you. Just my 2 cents. Feel free to ignore me. LOL.

Lori, how's your countdown? Glad you had the heart to heart with your doctor.

Hi to DrSue, Nicky, Beryl (aka energizer bunny), Kellie (MIA?) and anyone who stops by.

I think the loons are starting to call their goodbye calls. I will miss them.

Good morning Team! Beautiful again this morning, although cloudiness and storms are forecast to move in later.
DD1 and DD2 are going out to see mom. I'll go out later so she'll have company for a good part of the day.
Trying to get motivated. BERYL, pretty funny if I was the inspiration to clean...that is a first! lol
Wishing all a good day.

Good gorgeous Saturday ladies. Weather is the same here Peg. Just glorious! Had my WI (down .6), then went for a lovely long walk in the park and to Trader Joes. Jeez. Havent been there in too long so spend way too much.
Peg, assisted living will hopefully be a great choice after rehab. She can be looked after, but have some independence. I hope that works.
Oh, and THANK YOU SO MUCH Peg for all the talk about cleaning......(sarcasm font). lol. Since you brought it up, I have: cleaned out my kitchen cabinet with all the food, thrown out outdated things, wiped the shelves down and put down new paper after reorganizing them; cleaned out the back of my car....you don't even want to know what was there. I think I found Jimmy Hoffa!! emoticon I'm on a tear! So really, thank you. Don't know what it was, but it was the kick in the butt I needed.
Off to finish my salad and then to NAP!
Enjoy the day emoticon

Good morning Team! What a beautiful day...sunny, lo humidity and a little cooler. Feel more energetic today. Filled my feeders, took care of some stuff for mom, vacuumed and will steam clean one of the carpets as not only is there summer animal smell, but last night I spilled my supper all over it.
BERYL, I'm not really worried about mom's uncooperativeness, but I would like this to be as good as it can for her and not have her get in her own way. Something I do to my own weight loss and health journey, I should add. Wondering if maybe after the rehab portion is done, she should go to assisted living. More freedom?? a little more control for her? I don't know; just something else to explore.
Hoping everyone has a great day. Has LORI left on her cruise already?

Gasping and Retching Interval Training?? Oh Peg, I'm hysterical! Yeah, pretty much. Sweat pooled in my collarbones.....not my best look. lol
Does the staff tell you your mom is not cooperative? I'm so sorry. Don't let it upset you (fat chance, I know). She has no control over things now, so she's controlling what she can. They can handle it. It's what they do every day. I'd hate to have to go t bed and get up when someone else tells me to (like work!).
Hope everyone is having a good day and looking forward to the weekend.

Good evening Team!
Just noticed that RAINJAM posted on our team on Aug. 4th. I invited her to join us here. She's looking for 1990s info.
What a day...finally mowed and thought I'd have to call in the men with the baling machines. My weeds are thriving. Went to my monthly massage and it was painful and wonderful at the same time. Then went to see mom and brought her a few things she wanted and a few things I thought she would like...the photo album I made to which I had added a few pics...of her parents, her favorite aunt, my dad...and a trip frame that has a pic of her and dad cutting their wedding cake and a little kid pic of DB and me. She always had that where she could see it.
Mom has been, how should I put it, less than cooperative with the staff. Giving them a hard time about going to bed or not getting up without someone else being there. I tried to appeal to the nurse in her to follow the "doctor's orders", but I don't think I got anywhere. Her independence and stubborn streak are breaking through. Don't know how this will play out. She remembers and keeps saying how much she enjoyed the music the other night so I've downloaded the activity calendar to keep aware.. Thinking tomorrow I'll bring out a bird feeder and shepherd's crook to hang it on.
BERYL, what does GRIT stand for? ...Gasping and Retching Interval Training? annoying about the oil change.
DR SUE, good for you doing your spin.
LORI, have a great time.

I have been a slug, but, guess what? my back doesn't hurt as much. Well, I will not be a slug forever; at some point I will claim my life back, but then what. Hoping this neuro guy has some answers...in Nov...
A good evening to all!

Peg

Good Friday afternoon ladies.
Lori, I'm so happy you spoke up to your doc. They don't know unless we tell them that we aren't happy with something. You did, and now you feel good about it. YAY for you!!! Plus you got what you needed.
DrSue, I'm glad you got such good sleep and the pain is gone.
Wanted to get to work today but the car oil change took longer than it should have. Not my fault they're short handed, he was new......and so on. They should have offered me another appt if that was the case. I was NOT happy. Did a new class at the Y--GRIT. It is HIIT in another name. Thought I would die. There was drippage everywhere. Luckily it was only 30 minutes. OMG, it was intense. I did modify it--there was no jumping onto the steps for me. I walked it. No big deal. But man, it was brutal. Zumba will be a breeze now! lol
Finishing my late lunch then off for my bone density and then my mammogram. Soup to nuts, sort of...... emoticon

Good morning team! Yesterday was so busy, it was crazy. By the time I got home my big lunch had taken my appetite, so I skipped dinner. By the time I was trying to settle down, I needed 700 more steps to meet my 15,000 step goal. I begrudging got into some exercise clothes and hit my bike for one song. Well, then I felt good, so I did my PM yoga, did my back stretches and then got ready for bed. I slept like a rock.

Hello Team,

I tried to post earlier yet computer was wonky and then out the door for the doctor. I needed the sea sickness patches and, while he has prescribed them to me twice before he said I had to come it. I asked him if I could speak frankly to him, without being fired as a patient. I told him that my paper records that he has stored away would have saved me a trip in. He said, even if he had my paper records (all computerized now) that he, frankly could not take the time of flipping through my years of records to see that he has prescribed them prior. After we both relaxed he told me how terrible it is, today, to be a doctor. Later, after he explained my potassium low level and the difference between that and sodium which I produce too much of I asked him if he ever thought of teaching at a med school. He said he did, long ago, and he didn't earn enough to care for his family, but now it might be the same or even more than he earns as a doctor. I told him that he is a good teacher and he said thank you, I may look into that again. I left with us both feeling happy and I got the patches.

I did my treadmill walk and then some shopping. Beryl, I'm glad that you had a good time, Dr. Sue, yay for a half day and Peg, sorry about your mind wandering from your art.

~wishing you all a good night's sleep, ~hugs, Lori

Hi all. I DID enjoy my day, DrSue! Here it was cloudy and rainy, but down there was mostly sunny and hot. Did an hour walk on the beach. Did stop and briefly see my mother on the way home, so feel better about that.
Peg, hope everything is ok with your mother and the phone calls were not emergencies.
Eating dinner, then hopefully early to bed. Couldnt' sleep last night--the last time I looked at the clock it was 3am....not good.

Hello everyone. This the first time I have stopped all day. I worked mostly through lunch, grabbed some sushi and sashimi. Was pretty good for me, still a colorically dense meal, but healthy. I will do a light dinner. I did get my rear on my saddle this morning. I was cautious on the resistance but it seems it made my Achilles better.

Kathie, I think the 10 a day idea is brilliant. Peg, I hope it works for you. I think if you start in all the less personal areas, as it sounds like you are, it will be easier. When it comes to the nitty gritty you will be more comfortable with the idea. Also, your DB should hopefully be recovered from his surgery.

I hope Beryl is enjoying her day at the beach. Kathie I hope you are enjoying your day off!

One more appointment, then home-and a cocktail. Half day tomorrow! Yippee!

Good morning Team! Pretty quiet. Went to a plein air class, but left after the demo. Kept getting calls from the guys doing work on my house and mom's facility. Just couldn't concentrate.
Hope everyone is having a great day!

Good evening Team. Checking in.
I, too, love the "10 a day" idea, but (and there's always a but) I need to include my brother in this. I've started on the refrig and every trash day have food stuffs and hoarded plastic containers, bags, etc. to put out. There's still a part of me that doesn't feel right about going through her things and tossing. It will all work out. Made the appt. for her furnace servicing. She's doing ok. They're moving her to a long term room (did I mention that earlier?) tomorrow. She'll still do OT and PT. I went over this evening and took her to a concert being held in the activities room. She really enjoyed it, even tapping her foot. Then, when we went back to her room she started in with all the crazy stuff again. I think this will work to her benefit; socialization and all instead of being isolated. She liked going to church services on Sunday.
BERYL, enjoy the beach and DB, but more importantly...the cocktail and something to eat. Lots of exercise going on. Yeah, osteopenia here, too.
DR SUE, my gardens are "au naturel", too...lol No time to take care of anything and quite frankly, I don't care at this point. Spent a little time last week weeding and pulling spent plants out of the veggie garden
LORI, friends are wonderful and I know your furbabies, although skittish at having someone else in the house, are thankful to be taken care of. Glad your temps dropped. Still unpleasant here.
KATHIE, enjoy the day and the food and wine! Good luck at WI. Thinking of you.
A big hello to all!

Kathie--a wine and food event? Wish I lived closer! My kind of event, as you know.
Did the barre class and then dance fusion. I'm sore.
Finally got an answer from my doc from the XRay. It showed no fracture but bone thinning, so he wants me to have a bone density. I had one once and it showed osteopenia, which pretty much everyone has. I thought I was doing better since I was lifting. This getting old SUCKS APPLES, but.......
Will see my brother tomorrow, leave after a few hours, walk around Rehoboth alone (which I love to do), have a drink and happy hour snack at my favorite place down there, then get dinner and come home. Sounds like a wonderful day!
Peg, I love Kathie's 10 idea. I want to use that here too! Thank you. How was your mother today?
Have a great evening ladies! emoticon

Just finished reading all your posts but barely have time to comment. Hectic day and I have to be somewhere in an hour, '

DrSue, so glad your time at camp was good.

So---Peg, every time you go to your mom's house find 10 things to get rid of. Doesn't matter, big or small just count to 10. Have a box/bag for Pitch/Donate/Garage Sale, etc. pick your categories. Count to 10. I swear if you do this every day it will help you get started,

Hi to all. Tomorrow I have a real day off. No appointments other than WI. No the most auspicious day since I am headed to a wine/food event at the art center but the only Thurs. I can do it this month. So I will check back then and re-read the messages.

Lori it is pushing 90 here, but there is a light sea breeze, so it feels a little better.

Peg, I don't envy your task of cleaning out your mom's house. I hope your DB and SIL, will help with that. Perhaps your daughters too. One day at a time, one room at a time.

Beryl I hope you do get to visit your DB at the beach. This most certainly is beach weather.

Peg, I'm embarrassed to tell you that my garden at the lake is "au natural". Aka I haven't weeded all year. It rained the entire time I was there in June. July I was with friends. It is so out of control, my attitude is "winter will take care of the weeds!" I will try and split some of the grasses when I am there for the 2 weeks.

I walked home and made a nice salad for lunch. In my farm share this week, I got an eggplant. I found a CL recipe for a shrimp stuffed eggplant. I plan to cook it on the grill. I only got one eggplant, so the rest of the stuffing I plan on stuffing into peppers. It should work out fine.

I'm making myself hungry! Time to get water....

Good morning team,

Welcome back Dr. Sue, I'm so glad that you had a great time at camp and that your Achilles is doing well, Yipee! My BF will be watering my gardens daily and checking in on Livvy and Henry. Tho, Liv and Henry, will only be scared of her being in our home, she will check their water, food and if the boxes are too full. Thank G-d for friends.

Peg, you have something going on every moment of your day. I know that your Mom's home will be a difficult to prepare so you really need some TLC to give you the strength to get through these hard days. If you don't have to do her home right away, do something for yourself. This sounds funny or even strange, but mow your lawn. It will help you work out some emotions and make you feel accomplished.

Beryl, I hope you get out to the beach to see your brother, after your Mom leaves. Please enjoy your ziti and do something awesome for yourself.

Today is 10 degrees less and 81 is the high, I'm so excited to get done with the treadmill so I can get outside to my gardens. They and I are happy with this weather.

~hugs, Lori

Good Wednesday afternoon ladies! Hot and humid and cloudy today. May have showers on and off the next few days. I may go to the beach tomorrow as my brother is down there this week and stay a few hours. We'll see. He has my mother today. Lucky him. lol
DrSue, glad you got rested. That's the most important thing, right? Not to mention an extra day! Glad the achilles is better. Watch the spin, please. :)
Peg, you are beyond busy! Does the facility do laundry? If so, let them. Give it a shot. And do NOT forget to give yourself major rewards for every box you throw out of your mother's house! Maybe that will help? I wish I lived closer.
Went to school today for a couple hours, then did a barre class I haven't done in a long time. It was brutal! First it was hot in the room so I was dripping, then it was hard! Not to mention all the girls in the class were like 12 years old.....very inspiring. lol
Having lunch. Dinner is made--when I took a ziti casserole over to my friend I made one forus. YAY. Will do dance fusion later.
Enjoy the day team!

Good morning Team!
What a busy morning...the usual dealing with the rulers of the house, laundry (mom's and mine), phone conferences with the social worker at mom's and then with the attorney. Catching up on banking (mom's and mine), made a doc appt for mom, need to schedule her furnace cleaning and next is a shower, to mom's house, to pastels and then to see mom and accompany her to a concert being given at the facility. How does any one have the time to take care of their own home and yard? I am suffocating on fur that that is unkindly being left all over the house. I still haven't mowed and who knows when I will get to it. Need to start thinking about selling mom's house. Have I mentioned how how I really, really, really REALLY do not want to have to go through all of the stuff in there? Where to even begin...Enough complaining.
DR SUE, a wonderful week at camp! That's great.
A big hello to everyone!

Peg

Sorry, I had to go see an appointment and did not want risk all i'd typed to be poofed, particularly since there is a certain feline lounging on my desk. I had a good drive home. Today Is very hot, but work wise steady and sane. My Achilles did well with the running. We will see how it goes when I spin tomorrow. So I guess my motivation is improved. I am tracking today. I guess it means that I am back on track. We shall see.

I am glad to hear Heidi, found a wonderful house. I hope she will come see us soon. Hello to Kellie, Joy and Rosey.

Hello to my very busy team!

Peg, I apologize to you. If I had caught up sooner, I would have had you come out to camp. Drank a bottle if wine and made you a good dinner. What a roller coaster of a week for you. However, your mom is in a good safe place, you found the POA, and you are sleeping better. I'm glad your DB has stepped up too. Yes, we can do Cooperstown in October, and or you can come on out.

Beryl, you gotta hated those blasted car seats. At least you got it in the car to begin with! You are keeping yourself very active, especially in this heat. I'm glad you are starting to see Ari's personality develop.

Kathie, you certainly sound like you are doing OK. Keeping busy enough to sleep at night is healing. I'm glad you sat on your dock the other night. I love my deck by the lake. I love my deck by the kitchen too, as it is mainly sun.

Nicky, I am in the absolutely no liver of any form catagory. Makes me gag. So-I'll send you mine!

Lori, I am sorry your garden is not pleased. I hope you have someone to water while you are on your cruise. It sounds amazing!

So, I left fore camp Friday, and I was physically and mentally exhausted. I did eat well, health wise. I didn't track because without online ability, it is hard to do if you make something complicated. I was conscious of what I was doing. I rested. Sat I was so tired I did nothing other than a lazy walk. I paddled around the lake with my Aunt Sally and talk about leisurely- it took 1 1/2 hours. Sunday I felt a bit better and went for a run, then a paddle (1/2 hour around the lake) and then basked in the sun and lake. I ran and paddled again Monday and got word that I had no surgeries scheduled for Tuesday and it was my half day. I got an extra day to stay. emoticon So more rest and sunning. I am almost a human again.

Good Evening Team,

Nicky, I forgot to answer your question. Yes, we have a Formal night, a semi-formal night and for the first time ever a Halloween night, which we choose not to pack for. We, do, however, love the formal and semi-formal nights. The last two cruises I wore the same gorgeous dress but sadly the pictures are the same, so this year I bought some, not so formal dresses and we will have a new picture. As far as bathing suits go, I bought my first, sort of bikini pieces. Of course, I will wear cover ups, but getting back to goal, I just thought it would be nice. We are at the pool and or beaches every day on the cruise.

I do NOT eat liver. Our Mom made us eat it, yes with onions, all of our lives and I just can't/couldn't stand it. I, have, however eaten chopped liver, decades ago and liked it.

Peg, great news on finding that POA and getting some relief from a very stressful situation. Also, glad for the art work coming up.

Beryl, those dang car seats and or strollers, man they sure do make them gramma proof, don't they. They are heavy and difficult, I feel for you. As far as getting a 2 year old to sit and eat well that is also, difficult and can be frustrating too. Ari is so darn cute, I'm sure you are enjoying this time with both of them.

Kathie, yay, you survived those 8 hour shifts. You sure have a huge to do list. I'm so glad about one of them being your beautiful art.

Well I'm wishing my whole team a great night's sleep, hugs to all, Dr. Sue, Rosey, Kellie and Joy, too, Lori

Thanks, NICKY, just checked it out...briefly...and bookmarked it. Yup, I am the toxins girl. Even gave up eating deer liver because of that. Figure it's filtering out all those environmental toxins, too. Sorry...don't let me ruin your culinary experience. emoticon

BERYL, you have a fabulous heart! Making casseroles for your ailing friend is a gift from that heart of yours!

PEG, was it you who mentioned the "toxins" in liver? That's why I buy grassfed only; fewer nasty things if the animal is hormone free and fed its natural diet.

Grassfed meat has a much better omega 3-to-omega 6 profile so that a piece of meat will have about the same omega 3 as a piece of salmon. In order to produce more and more, it's criminal what we've done to our livestock. I can't think about that now. I'll think about it tomorrow. . .

LORI, tell us what you're packing for your cruise. Did you get new bathing suits? I marvel at the fabulous fabrics and designs of the bathing suits these days. I came across a picture of myself at 12 years old in a peach Rose Marie Reed bathing suit that I adored. Looking at it now, you can tell that it would sag the moment you got it wet. It had what was then called a "dare back," scooped in the back. In today's world, you would probably wear it out to the store!

I'm enjoying the new online program I started for heavy lifting. I have no idea what it will do for my body. Jason Seib, the trainer, has been training women for fat loss for several years. His philosophy of training is compiled in his book, "The Paleo Coach."
His words really stuck with me: "You can't fix a body you hate."
He wrote what has become my new mantra: I live the way I want to look.
You might find his blog on his website inspirational.

Good morning team. Another hot one here too. It doens't even feel like the air is on in my car. And I rarely use the a/c in the car, but this summer it's all the time.
Just finished up some classwork I needed to do, then off to the gym for some weights before zumba, then meeting a friend for lunch. Will drop off the 2 casseroles for my other friend.
Babies daycare found "a few" bedbugs somewhere. Don't know what "a few" means. Didn't think you really "found" them, thought you found the bites since they're so small. I think they will definitely follow up on that one.
That little baby boy is so precious. I have to brag. He is so placid, just will lie there and watch and bat at his toys when all the others are screaming. He smiles and laughs when you kiss his fat little belly, and tries so hard to talk. I don't enjoy the little potatoes they are before they interact, but now he's getting fun!
Peg, OMG I am so glad you found that POA!! Go enjoy that art class.
Kathie, 2 pieces for shows! Fabulous. And while the yardwork is hard, at least you know your new realtor is on it. I'm so glad for you.
Hi Lori, DrSue, Nicky, and anyone else lurking. Have a good day.

Good morning Team!
Another brutal day today, but I think this heat will break overnight or tomorrow.
NICKY, a fracture at C1 was found. Not sure if it happened when she fell on Sat. or when she fell during the previous couple of weeks. No pets. She used to and loved them, but hasn't for a few years now. She would enjoy and sometimes feed the neighborhood "pride". Love liverwurst, used to eat other organs except I just couldn't do tongue. Stopped doing liver (except for Thanksgiving) when I realized that's what cleans out all the toxins.
BERYL, wrestling car seats...oh how I don't miss that. DB has been visiting mom almost everyday. He's been involved and I keep him involved. There are some medical things coming up for him, (eye surgery being one) so he'll be out of the picture for a short while.
KATHIE, Sounds like you have a lot to do. Thinking of you and thinking how much I do not want to have to get mom's house ready for sale when that time comes. Hey! You'll be the expert...it will be nothing for you to just come to NY and help, right? Glad to hear you have art projects on the list. I will make it back to class this week.

Good news on the legal front. Found a Power of Attorney among some papers at mom's. 1992! Called the atty. and we will file it. I am so relieved that we will not have to put mom or ourselves through the guardianship process. I have no worries or concerns about the care mom is receiving. The place is clean, well maintained and the staff is wonderful. Mom complains and is unhappy being there, but that's just how it is. Sleeping better in that regard. Now it's just the financial and house issues that interfere with my beauty rest.
Wishing all a great day.
Thinking of DR SUE, KELLIE, LORI, ROSEY, JOY and anyone else who drops by.

Beryl, sorry its been so hot. Its been warm here and maybe it gets a bit hot & humid for a day or two but it cools off pretty nicely at night. Summers here are usually nice but winter is 6-7 months long so we pay dearly for these few weeks. It must be a challenge sometimes to let your kids be parents and learn the hard way when you know what they should be doing,

Nicky, I can manage chicken livers. Actually like them but avoid the rest. Don't care for grass fed beef but rarely eat beef. My DB & DSIL live in Panama where there is only grass fed beef and have given up beef which is probably good for DB in the long run.

Peg, I know this is hard but it sounds like your mom is getting good care & hopefully you are now getting some good sleep. Are you finding time for art?

Lori, are you packed yet for your cruise? It sounds wonderful.

Hi to DrSue, Kellie, and anyone else reading.

I survived sidewalk sale and then worked two days following it. Funny how easy a 5 hour shift felt after working all those 8 hour hectic days. And of course I fell behind on just about everything else. I have a day off today and a to do list a mile long plus two errands that are going to take me half a day to complete. They cannot be put off. I have work to pick up at an art center because its promised to a traveling exhibit plus another piece to finish (facing & hanging sleeve) for the same show. They need to be sent off by Monday so they have moved to the top of the list. And the new realtor is going to want to take new pictures so cleaning and yard work are a priority. And it goes on and on. I'm off on Thursday and Friday but I have my volunteer shift at the charity shop Friday afternoon and now I'm wondering why I didn't wait until fall for volunteer but its what it is.

So its time to hit the list and try to get as much accomplished as I can. The upside of this is that I am so exhausted by nighttime that I sleep soundly. And sleep is healing right?

Good evening ladies.
Hot here. Like hell outside. I went to work at 8am and it was muggy, but when I came out at 1230 it was pretty near unbearable. UGH.
Did 2 zumbas today. I'm sore.....
Picked up my babies at daycare and couldn't get the carseat out of my car. I hate that thing. Not a big deal to just bring him in the house and wait till my DSIL came home and got it out. I just feel like a moron. Made Jo dinner--DD is working late--but they don't make her sit at the table and eat, so she eats a bite and is done. Then DSIL gives her junk....not my circus.....
Peg, I'm so sorry. this is so hard for you. Is your brother around at all to help? Besides with the finances? Is your mother generally happy or is she still as anxious there?
I grew up eating liver and tongue. I couldn't look at it till it was cut up, but boy, was it good!! Not heart....don't know what the stigma was with that. I do love liver and onions. And liverwurst.....
Having salad for dinner. It's our salad bar/getting rid of leftovers meal. Making a ziti casserole and a vegan taco casserole for my friend going through chemo. She shouldn't have to worry about dinners at this time.
Off to eat. Have a good evening!

PEG, did mom hurt herself in the fall? You haven't mentioned that she has any pets. 'Nother mother refuses to live in assisted living because life is not worth living without her dog. She has all her wits about her, though; her body is broken.

My new friend, HealthyMe, did great today. No over eating. She is my shield between me and the food. She repeats my new mantra: "I am living the way I want to look."

LORI, do you have a treadmill with a computer, or do you place your laptop on it?

I made beef liver last night, and it was really good! Cut it in smaller pieces; sauteed onions, Worcestershire sauce and balsamic vinegar, marinated mushrooms. Honest, it was quite tasty. I grew up eating liver, heart, and tongue; I do understand, though, that offal is an acquired taste. 100% Grassfed beef.

When you arise in the morning,

give thanks for the morning light, for your life and strength.

Give thanks for your food and the joy of living.

If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies in yourself.

Happy Monday, Team!
Busy as usual...Ruby to the vet for shots, visiting mom and then looking for important papers at her house. Brought her some flowers from my garden. She's doing ok, but cannot remember from one minute to the next. I know part of it is the disorientation of being somewhere new, but I think that is just speeding up the inevitable. She did well at PT.
LORI, that cruise sounds absolutely wonderful!
NICKY, glad you have a new, more positive tenant in your head. Her voice should be much nicer to hear.
A big hello to all. Still haven't mowed as it is way too hot to be out there doing that.

Peg

Hello, it is a Hot early evening, Team,

Ants, I hate ants, dead ants too. They have taken over our humming bird feeder. Yesterday, I had DH fill a container with soap and water, immerse the feeder and we went to Lowes to get an attachment to keep Ants off, it's actually working, ta da.

Peg, my heart breaks for you. You are doing the best you can do with the terribly sad dilemma you were dealt. I'm glad that your Mom is now at a more appropriate rehab and that you got some sleep, and you're feeling some peace now. Please paint something, maybe your garden and pool, from inside where it is cooler.

Oh Beryl, I knew that you'd love the concert, and Peg did Not have to bail you out, lol. Danced the night away, felt good, I'm sure. Yes, you are right, Saturday, we leave out of Port Canaveral, Sunday, at sea, Monday is Cozumel, Tuesday, Grand Cayman, Wednesday Falmouth, Jamaica, Thursday, at sea, Friday, Castaway Cay, (our favorite), Disney's Island, then Saturday we disembark at Port Canaveral. The flying to and fro are the worst, red eye to, then two stopovers, I think on the way home. Yes, it's my brother and s-I-l, who are taking us, yet again. We're so thankful for my, truly awesome brother. We are so close that we actually enjoy spending time together. Now, for Jamaica, the ride to and fro the airport and port at Falmouth is just miserable. It's all 3rd world and heartbreaking. But, the resorts are just amazing. We did Sandals, Ocho Rios, for out honeymoon. All inclusive and Gorgeous.

Nicky, you are so right, cleaning out drawers and or shelves are so renewing. I'm doing a little most every day now.

I did another hour on the treadmill. I watch, Orange is the New Black, on my computer why walking. Then I do some of my leg stretches. Speaking of Pizza, we will have some tonight. I will eat only the toppings and cheese. Heck, maybe a few bites of crust too.

Kathie, you said it, you were on your feet for 8 hours, how many days in a row, I'll get you have some fluid/swelling from all that standing. But, I do know, that Carbs are Not, my friend, either.

Hoping that Dr. Sue is chilling, up at camp, and not running. Hello Rosey, Kellie, Joy and all of our Teamies.

~hugs for a wonderful evening, Lori

Hi team. Waiting for my vegetable fritatta to finish so we can eat dinner. Rode my bike for an hour this morning, then since I was falling asleep reading the paper went to zumba at 5 to wake me up. Worked!! And yes, Nicky, I was samba-ing and everything last night. Hey--I'll never see them again! So freeing!!
I find even cleaning out one drawer in my dresser makes me feel like a rock star! And the kitchen cabinet? That's wonderful Nicky!
Peg, how was the visit?
I also wish our teamies would come out to play!
Off to finish the paper and eat. Have a good evening ladies emoticon

I just finished cleaning out my pantry and feel like a new, fresh-faced woman!! Holy cow. 15-year-old (or more) powdered sugar. Baking powder just as old. Gifts of tea that I will never use.

I recommend cleaning out one drawer or a shelf. It's sooooo renewing!
KATHIE, I'm sure you appreciate what I'm talking about.

KATHIE, will try Simple Green for the ants. Do you dilute it and leave it on the areas, or what?
Seems we can't handle the carbs as we get older as well as before.
I adore summer fruit, and I'm afraid I've over indulged this summer.

I'm deporting Chubby Girl because she's so negative. I've hired a new gal who promises to be my shield against unhealthy lifestyle, and her name is HealthyMe. I will ask her for advice every time I'm presented with an opportunity to over eat; I will ask her to remind me how great it feels when I don't over indulge. I eat way too much.
Trying to get the negativity out of my life here.

BERYL, what fun you had! Up until 2!!!! I would be in agony for a week if I did that. Use any of your Zumba moves?

PEG, blessed sleep! Get some painting in this week.

Not even ONE living ant in my pantry today. It is, however, a massacre of dead ant bodies all over the place. Bright side, it provides me an excellent opportunity to clean out the pantry. I must have Carr Water Crackers in there that are at least ten years old.
I apologized to the ants, but I had to murder them.

Oh, I wish ROSEY would post. If you're lurking, ROSEY, let us know how it goes.

DRSUE, thinking of you and hope you're making it a spa time up at camp.

LORI, are you packing yet? Do they still have formal dining on cruise ships, or has that custom been abandoned?

When you arise in the morning,

give thanks for the morning light, for your life and strength.

Give thanks for your food and the joy of living.

If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies in yourself.

Good morning Team!
YES! I slept last night! I am really quite comfortable with where mom is now. The first night was like being in "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest", but with wonderful nurses/staff...no Nurse Ratchitt.
BERYL, glad you enjoyed the concert. I didn't even have to put up bail $.
KATHIE, you survived the sale. Simple Green? I'll have to try it. I use it for cleaning; didn't know it helped with ants. Our metabolisms have turned against us, I'm afraid. Really hard to know what trips the gain (pizza and a small brownie?) and it seems like nothing really turns on the losing. A constant journey.
Hi to all my teamies!
It's off to visit mom.

Good morning ladies.
Peg, I'm so happy your mom is in a good, safe, appropriate place for her. She'll be safe and meet new people. and you can take a breath. Her safety is utmost and this will provide it for her. You're doing a good thing, although I know it doesn't feel that way. Take some time and breathe....do somethng for yourself today.
ANTS--I guess Im a big old wuss cause I call an exterminator. I am not a fan of bugs or creatures, as we know, so I want them GONE! Nothing works but those sticky traps they put out. I see 3 of them and call shrieking.
Kathie, I'm glad most of the sale is over for you and you can get back to a normal schedule. Good job packing. It's so depressing how 1 different choice and BOOM--the pounds jump back on.
The concert was way too much fun. I packed frozen diet iced tea and lemonade in bottles, plus my rum, and damn--it all got in! They even checked my bag. I have the old lady wouldn't do it look, I guess. lol. Great lawn seats, till a large, unruly group sat near us. Smoked weed (although the one next to me offered me some, so I guess they have manners at least!!) but it worked out fine. We all had a blast. I danced the entire night, but it was a late one. We left at 1130 and I was so hungry I could have eaten the paint off the walls, so we hit the 24 hour diner near here and I had a salad. Didn't get to bed till 2 so it'll be a long day here. Off to my bike ride soon.
Chicago was OK--they have a lot of guys who were not the original. EW &F are just incredible. They did lots of songs together which were tremendous and had the entire crowd on their feet dancing. Lots of fun.
Off to get dressed and do a bike ride.
Have a good day team!

Peg, I am glad your mother is situated somewhere better for now. One day at a time.

Nicky, I have ants too. I set out ant traps, carefully where Charlie, Annie & Ceecee can't get them. Also sprayed Simple Green by doors etc. I'm winning but its definitely a war and the ants refuse to give up.

Last shift of the week, or first shift of the week depending on how you look at it but the 5th day in a row and the 7th day out of 8. I feel like road kill after an 8 hour shift but sidewalk sale is over and today I will likely be busy straightening the store which has been rearranged with all the beautiful new fall clothes. We'll have 3 sale racks in back until the summer things are gone. I'm only working 5 hours and I see that my upcoming schedule is back to three 5-hour shifts a week which is much easier.

Yesterday I caved into the pizza that was brought in for lunch and the birthday brownies someone baked. One small slip and the scale jumped. Forget the 18,000 steps. Its not enough to allow for even a tiny indulgence. Wish I could get my metabolism to kick back in. Maybe it won't and I will need to learn to live on a lot fewer calories. I have a salad packed and will not touch the leftovers in the shop kitchen.

PEG, when my 'nother mother was finally unable to care for her DH at home, she found him a nice place nearby and told him it was only temporary because SHE was having minor surgery. He ended up very content at his new home. They'll take me kicking and screaming from my home, that's for sure, so I thoroughly understand.

You go ahead and cry, PEG. It's one of those major life changes. No one likes change.
You will be able to have a good night's sleep soon because mom will be safe.

DIRECTV came and, apparently, fixed the latest issue. Nice DirecTV tech showed up about an hour later. He had forgotten his meter on my roof when he was adjusting the dish. He had to get the ladder and climb up and get it. That's five visits from DirecTV in one week.

My pantry has armies of ants! I don't understand it because everything is either sealed or in plastic bags or canisters. The shelves were literally black with ants. Someone told me (maybe here?) that vinegar spray destroys the pheromone trail? Any way, I'm spraying alcohol, vinegar, and a probiotic soap spray alternately. It's a blood bath of ants. As if I didn't have anything to do this weekend, my angels set out to keep me busy.
So much for reading.

Too hot to walk the dog, so we went swimming. I practiced yoga in my office, which is the only cool room in the house.

Eager to hear about the concert, BERYL. Rum and water doesn't sound so exotic. Are you two reliving your teen years?

When you arise in the morning,

give thanks for the morning light, for your life and strength.

Give thanks for your food and the joy of living.

If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies in yourself.

Good evening Team!
What a rollercoaster ride yesterday and today. Mom was transferred for rehab to a rehab/long term care facility. They put her on the dementia unit (understandable) to try it out. OMG!!! It was totally inappropriate with the level of dementia those residents have. Decided to leave it that way overnight and mom did fine. Unhappy to be there but fine. I didn't sleep at all; couldn't stop crying, couldn't stop thinking about it and in her mind I'm sure she felt like she had been tossed into the (her words) "looney bin". Started thinking about 24/7 home care although that's not really workable. Went in today and talked with the supervisor (DD2 was there) and arranged to have mom transferred to the regular rehab unit. Wonderful! Great unit, great room, great staff. Mom is still not happy of course, but a weight has been lifted off my shoulders and I am at peace with the situation now.
BERYL, hope you have a great time at the concert and aren't caught with your contraband. (I have bail $ if you need it)
LORI, Jamaica sounds absolutely awesome. Enjoy!
NICKY, thanks...I feel like I haven't done anything "artiste-y" in a long time, although it was only this week that I missed my classes.
Hello to all and have a great weekend.

Getting ready to drive to Philly. I have a subway sandwich for DH, a salad for me, and some rum packed away along with frozen waters to mix it with. Hope it gets through. If not, whatever. DD is back from Mali so I'm happy.
Just sent our friends who just got married strawberries and wine on their cruise leaving tomorrow. Honeymoons are special!
Lori, is it only Jamaica? I've never been there. How fun!!! Isn't your BIL going too? Someone else is, I thought. You must be beyond excited!
Gained .4 today. this is ridiculous. I am VERY sore though from my muscle pumps, so that could be it. My clothes still fit, so I guess these 3 pounds are whatever......
Off to the concert. Have a great evening team!! emoticon

Hello Team,

My Beryl, what an exciting concert, DH and I did go to a James Taylor and Carole King concert at the Hollywood Bowl. Yes, we were an older crowd but oh what fun. Two, older ladies, one row back we smoking weed and we got a 2nd hand high. We sang all the songs, it was awesome. I know you'll have a great time.

Yes, I've shared our destination, but would love to share it again. We are going to the Caribbean again. Our last Caribbean cruise was in 2010. But this time we will be heading to Jamaica. We went there on our honeymoon. We climbed Dunns river Falls, we thought that it would've been a once in a lifetime event, however, we will climb it again, more than 14 years later, we are beyond excited.

It's way too hot here, I could Not sleep at all. DD2 bought her first rand new car, last night. I'm too sleepy to think straight today. Wishing my team a great weekend.

~hugs, Lori

BERYL, eager to hear about the concert. I think you're mistaken about the senior audience, though. Imagine a James Taylor concert!

PEG, my dear PEG, I am hugging you tightly. We're around the same age. There are times when I look around and think to myself that I can't do this by myself; this is too much. It's the most alone-est feeling ever.
KATHIE, I know you understand, too.

PEG, YOU ARE NOT COO-COO!!! You are an eccentric artiste! Wear your flowing gown and dance in the garden! Or something. . . .

We need to take care of ourselves. That's the real lesson to be learned here. I'm reading Dr. Christiane Northrup's "Goddesses Never Age." The theme is: we all grow older, but we don't have to age. We are NOT slaves to our genes; we can alter the expression of our genes. I wanted to stand up and cheer when I read that.

LORI, did you ever mention where you will be cruising this time? Do you spend a lot of time packing? I'm a notorious over packer when I know there is no weight limit.

Yes, it's pretty darn warm here on the Westside, but nothing like the heat you get.

Heard there will be a giant El Nino this fall, and we here in CA will get tons of rain. Sounds great; HOWEVER, our CA government, Democrat AND Republican, has not used the money we give them wisely. We don't have enough reservoirs to capture all that water! New water storage facilities haven't been built in over 50 years. It's a very sad situation.

DD and I both tracked and exercised this week and stayed very much OP. Bless her heart, she is sooooo self involved. She texts me regularly for support. I text her.............

Good weekend, as good as you can make it, Team.

When you arise in the morning,

give thanks for the morning light, for your life and strength.

Give thanks for your food and the joy of living.

If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies in yourself.

Just back from our friends' open house. Lots of folks, some I knew, some I just met. Lovely crowd. Had a lot of grapes, and some wine. They had a chocolate cake I'd have killed anyone who came near me had I eaten any. But didn't. OMG, what icing!!
Got a Groupon to see Earth Wind and Fire and Chicago tomorrow night at a venue in NJ. We have outdoor seating and will need to bring chairs. Can't bring food or drinks inside, so I guess I'll get DH a subway sandwich and I'll bring a salad to eat beforehand. And smuggle some wine inside! lol. Should be the oldest crowd for a concert EVER!! LOL
Eating my cereal for dinner. Always my pre-WI meal. UGH.
Have a good evening team

Beryl, BF lives in the Los Angeles area. Not an option for me financially even if I wanted to live there. I love to visit her but its not a place I could live. Too many cars, too many people. But a great place to visit. And she won't leave so we will always live apart.

Peg, sounds like your mom is getting the care she needs and I hope you are getting some rest now that she is in their care. Did your fridge come?

Lorie, glad the ribs were good. I bet you are getting excited. Stay cool. I hear from BF that it is super hot there.

Had to work indoors all day in the men's department which was disappointing but I had a number of tasks to do in addition to the customers who wandered down. Who knows where I will be tomorrow. It better to be outside and away from the food. I took too many handfuls of trail mix.

Time to feed the dogs and then take them down to the lake. I almost never go out there but I am going to try to sit out on the dock for a few minutes and enjoy this summer weather.

Hi to all who stop by.

Hello Team,

Very hot here, my roses are Not liking it at all, sadly. Some of the buds are hanging their head low, dang it. I'm staying indoors, aside from watering and later the dreaded grocery shopping. I'm finding that my body drops with more protein, natural carbs (from fruit and veges) and being unplugged. Trying to find better words for that department.

Kathie, I love that you enjoyed it outside. I've been hoping that doing that would make the 8 hours go by faster and perhaps give you some joy. It is sad to hear that your BF is not doing well, maybe you can cheer each other up. I think about this a whole lot, what about inviting her to your house or you going to hers, make sure that you both have the music that moved you when you were in high school, and turn it on high, drink wine and just dance, laugh and dance some more.

Peg, did Dayerl's brother finally deliver your new fridge? I'm glad that your Mom is in a safe place, maybe you can breathe a little now. Hey, if the rehab is safe enough for the president then it must be good :). Hey did she happen to mention which president, lol

My Beryl, my ribs were delicious, who knew? I had about 6 oz. with some broccoli. Before I did the treadmill I had an egg sandwich with cheese. The whole wheat bread has extremely low carbs. I thought my body would need the carbs prior to workout. Are you still watching Extreme weight loss? I am and I am so amazed.

Hello to all my Team, Nicky, Dr. Sue, Kellie, Rosey and Joy.

~hugs, Lori

I'm here because I want to be healthy.

TGIF team! Getting hot today. And hotter this weekend.
At school early and probably received 250 physicals. Alphabetized them and will go in Monday and input them into the computer. Drudge work. But I'm glad to have it. Then did the treadmill, a really hard muscle pump, and wound down with 15 minutes on the elliptical. Done! To the market, then shower and the open house. Nice day.
Kathie, would you ever consider moving in with/near your BF when your house sells? Have either of you thought of that? Adjoining condos or apartments, something like that? I hope the rest of the sidewalk sale goes quickly for you! Are you scheduled next week at all?
Peg, I'm glad you got to see your mom's doctor. The hospital is a tough place. Things go on all night and it's very disorienting for most folks, let alone those with cognitive issues. My guess and hope is that when she's settled somewhere with her own things she'll do better. Hope that delivery goes well. Said you didn't order it? Yeah, right. I guess they're the same folks who repair my Comcast!! LOL
Hi to everyone else. I'm off to the market.
