NICKY, I forgot to say how I chuckled at the "panties in a bunch" comment.
LORI, how about a squirrel feeder with what they prefer...corn, nuts and maybe they'll leave your plants alone. Yay on the closing and one less thing hanging over your head. I like loking at me cleaned up house, but (and it's a big BUT) it doesn't last!
BERYL, glad you enjoyed the walk. Dinner sounds good. I love mushrooms. Tonight I roasted summer squash and green beans from the garden with corn, garlic lemon juice and olive oil. Also baked some chicken breasts with lemon juice and garlic. delish. Right...how does it get so messed up so easily.
Wishing my team a good evening.

Good evening. Did a long trail hike with DH. Burned a lot of calories, since that's the only reason I get my butt off the sofa!
Lori, the squirrels like your hospitality!! Glad that some of the stress will be over soon for you.
Peg, I hate to clean too. I do NOT understand how our little house gets so cluttered with just the 2 of us. Not dirty, but there's STUFF everywhere. I want to minimize, but there's STUFF. Papers, magazines, recipes, things I need......
Nicky, you made me laugh too about the rash.
Off to dinner. Bought a bunch of mushrooms I have never used and sauteed them (really steamed them) with asian spices and coleslaw mix. THen fresh corn and tomatoes, and some chicken from heaven knows when I froze for leftovers. tastes good.
Have a good evening

My dear and precious Team,

Nicky, I laughed hardy about the rash and panties. Thank you for that. I'm feeling much better today. The Refi and the notary will be here and closed on Friday. That will be one pressure off of my shoulders and chest.

Yesterday I bought the deer and rabbit repellent, it didn't mention squirrels, and now I know why:

I sprayed and today they areeeeeeeeee bacccccccck. It did smell just awful, like you said.

Beryl, I'm glad that you like this bunch of kids. That must have been hard, both on your Mom and sister. I know that it was a task that needed to be done.

I'm with Nicky, if I have to be in a room for old folks, as long as I have my kitties and garden I would be fine, but without either I'd be a lonely mess.

Peg, I love cleaning my house, it makes me feel productive and so happy to look at. Good for you on finishing the downstairs. Art tomorrow, great idea for your mind and soul.

Nicky, wow, you will be ready when the "real hike" happens. Maybe Gunther is a flatlands kind of doggie.

My beloved Uncle, lived and died in his garden, I guess I inherited his love for gardens.

I'm down 2 pounds, I guess I will have to track to stay at desired weight, duh!

~hugs to my team, Lori

Good afternoon Team!
Warm here, BERYL, but it's getting better. Thurs. and the weekend are supposed to be beautiful...low humidity and high 70s. Then back to 90, I think. Enjoy your walk tonight.
NICKY, I did read that Bright Line email. I think I mentioned it here. Made me start thinking that because dementia patients (mom in particular) are so good at coming up with stories to explain irrational things, is that story part of the brain not so affected? Is there more damage on the other side? I also do not have that cleaning gene. Let's face it...I hate cleaning. That like weeding seems an exercise in futility. In no time it's messy, cluttered, weedy again. Good for you to start your hiking training. All I can picture is you banging a drum for cadence for Guenther, like on the old ships. As for leptin, I've thought for a long time that I might have a problem with that. I can just keep putting the food in with no sense of fullness until I'm about ready to explode. My cat, Yoshi, has that same problem...he will gobble his food down and then cry for more. A fine pair we are.
Cleaning report...the living room is clean, just have some papers to be put away. Couldn't bear starting the bathroom or my room. Went for a hike today, very enjoyable. Peaceful, quiet woods with a lot of uphill. Almost think coming back down is worse, trying to stay sure-footed on the rocky path. Remains of old stone walls throughout and a lot of chipmunks. No sign of deer, bear or rattlesnakes. emoticon
Better finish my cleaning because once it cools down, I'll switch to outside mode.
Hope everyone is well.

Peg

Good afternoon ladies. Hot and sunny. What a surprise.
DH has off today so after work I'll go for a walk with him. Really can't stomach the thought of muscle pump tonight, which is the only option. 2 of my Ys are closed this week, so that's it for variety!
Busy day, lots of paperwork, which won't end soon. I do love these kids though!!
Nicky, you hike and walk SO MUCH! I'm in awe! So glad no injuries from the fall. That's scary.
My mother saw her sister with dementia today and my sister said she's OK. I'm not sure, but that's good enough for me.
Lori, I agree with Nicky that the angels are going to watch over you and the decision. I love that.
Peg, how was cleaning? UGH!!!

Hey, PEG, congrats on the housekeeping!!! Mindless, repetitive chores......Yuk.
I listen to podcasts while cleaning, but, unlike my mom, I get very little joy cleaning stuff. Mom vacuumed and dusted EVERY DAY, even when she worked full time. Did not inherit that gene.

Have you read the latest Bright Line email about Ode to the Split Brain? Interesting stuff. I think our Team has long gotten over the stuffing processed food nightmare, but I wonder how many of us have Leptin sensitivity problems that plague us? I'm always hungry, it seems.

BERYL, I hope this school term goes well. I notice it's getting darker a bit earlier here in L.A., but it's full sun by 6 A.M.
If I couldn't keep my dog, I'd NEVER consent to going into assisted/senior living. DS's sober living homes are dog friendly. I think that would be riotous good fun to have an assisted living section of pet owners where the pets just run all over the place! And a play area designated for the dogs, like doggie day care for working people.

DRSUE, simple pleasures. A day to hang out. How wonderful that you appreciate those.
How old is your dad, if I may ask? Both my 'nother mother AND step mom seem to fall a lot with varying degrees of injury.
Just heard that step mom fell in her garden while trying to pull out a weed. She narrowly missed a concrete block. She had to butt walk to a nearby tree to haul herself up. She's 96, 97 in November. I sure hope I can be that kind of independent and innovative.

I force marched Gunther 5 miles yesterday up hill. I must get ready for my hikes in October. I can't do anything about the elevation, but I sure can work up the endurance factor. I walked with 7 liters of water, dog water, and whatever else I could fit in the backpack that weighed something.
I also ran/walked on the treadmill for 20 minutes using an interval/incline program.

Today is weight training.

MY HIKING PANTS ARE TOO SNUG!!!! What the heck is wrong with me? Why can't I stay at a stable weight, for crying out loud?
I'm tracking big time and not getting COMPLACENT about that, and I'll take measurements tomorrow for incentive.

LORI, I'm sure it's a very stressful time for DH, too.
Your angels are taking care of you. Wherever you end up, you can make your own happiness. No place is perfect. There's ALWAYS a shadow side and a bright side to every situation. If you get your panties in a bunch every time there's the unknown, you'll get a rash!!

Good evening Team!
The downstairs is clean! Upstairs is on the agenda for tomorrow after I go for a short hike. DD2 called this afternoon and invited me for a pedi and of course I jumped right on that. First pedi for the season and the season is nearly over. Then to see mom and give her her meds. As for painting, I'll go to pastels class Wed. afternoon. A friend and I will try to get out and some plein air Thurs (pastels) (and if I have wheels) and Friday is class (oils). There definitely is art in my immediate future.
DR SUE, being on the Delaware must have been fun. Spending time with the family while doing something can be better than sitting around looking at each other. Sorry you ended up home a day early, but a "day off" at home is good, too. Glad your dad is ok. Oct..mmmm...possibility
LORI, good luck with the squirrel spray. Being in limbo is quite torturous.
BERYL, well, I guess your mom has made her stand perfectly clear. Mom never came out and said that, but essentially that was her feeling, too, and we know how that worked out. Although having to go to the facility for "rehab" certainly saved me from a much more unpleasant situation. "Medical reasons" vs "We don't think you can live here anymore" seems to go over a little easier. Glad you survived day #1! 8:00 and it was dark and I'm still crying in my wine.
Hey, KATHIE and NICKY!
Wishing a good night to all.

Good evening ladies. Busy day, but a good one.
DrSue, I'm glad your dad's OK. Falls are scary. My mom told my sister she will not leave the house until she's forced to. Great. I think coming home and having a relaxing day tomorrow is a wonderful idea!! Reading anything good?
Lori, Friday will come soon, and I agree, most men think they're clear on things and totally are not. I hope it's the answer you both are looking for!! Praying for this!
Peg, hope you get to relax and paint and are done cleaning!!
While eating only when hungry today I didn't eat breakfast till 11, had some grapes, then my salad at 2. Now eating my big salad with lots of "stuff" in it for dinner. Walked for an hour after work. Boy was it hot and sticky! UGH!
Off to finish and get ready for work. Have a good evening ladies

Wow Dr. Sue, your time at camp was so precious and short. I'm glad that you got to spen time with your family, I'm always regenerated or too p@@ped afterward.

The news we were supposed to hear today may not be given till Friday, I'm so frustrated and, truth be told, aggravated at DH. I really don't think he communicates everything that he should. He's upset that I'm aggravated.

I bought the deer and rabbit fence, so the squirrels don't like it either? It sure didn't mention squirrels and they didn't have the Ortho kind.

Dr. Sue, if we "ever" do move. How will I get Livvy and Henry there? They've only been in the car ions ago and didn't like it one bit. It's a three hour drive. Any ideas?

~hugs, Lori

Good evening team. I made it to camp, with lobsters for dinner. My brother and family were there too. It was good to be with my family. My Dad is not doing well. In the last year or less he has gone from walking with a cane to being reliant on a walker. Friday after dinner, I went home because I was exhausted, and he fell. Nothing serious and my brother and nephew were there. It is happening more and more. He is a big guy, overweight, diabetic etc. his legs are skinnier every time I see him, because he won't / can't walk. The wound from May is healing. Enough of that.

Beryl, I would break my neck in arial yoga. I had issues with bring dislexic and doing TRX, I can't imagine being upside down too. I am with Peg in the non dancers catagory. That's why I like spinning. I'm sorry you are back to work already.

Kathie, I'm glad you are getting back to the gym, it does help your mood. Also glad your kids liked camp. Good to know they had a happy place!

Nicky, of course Gunther missed you. You are HIS! I can't believe it's been three years since you got him. Time is funny stuff.

Peg, I hope you happily cleaned your house, but more happily hope you got out to paint. Are you doing water colors or oils? Since you now have a pet sitter, perhaps you can pack your toothbrush and come to camp in Oct.

Lori, perhaps you got word today? Having choices is a good thing. I hope DH gets the position that suits you both well.

I got to see my niece and youngest nephew too. Eldest nephew is back at school, and had his military induction ceremony. Niece is taking an AP environmental science class, and they had a summer project to do. It involved going to a state or national park. Investigating invasive species, endangered species etc. The Delaware river is born in Hancock NY and a long section is a national park, Hancock to Narrowsburg. So, we rented two canoes, my brother and SIL and nephew in one, myself, my niece and my 78 year old mom in the other. Needless to say, I did a lot of work. We entered the river in rapids, as I was organizing our boat with Mom, no one else was there, she looked ay me and said "I'm terrified!" When I was a young kid (and DB) the Delaware was so polluted that you could not swim in it. The NPS took it over and cleaned it up. So by age 10 or so we were white water canoeing as a family. I had been taking mom, but two years ago she had federal jury duty and last year the river was too high and dangerous. It was a glorious day DNeph caught 2 small mouth bass ( he is an AVID fisherman). DNie had a great time learned a lot, and her mom, me and brother went swimming in the river at the point where the outlet from our lake enters the Delaware. It was good. I work so much sometimes I miss things with them.

I slept a lot, and hard. The critters with me. I woke this am at 6:40, did my normal am stuff but dragging. It was a perfect lake day. I knew if I dawdled, I'd be in tears if I lingered. I told my uncle, "I want to get home, because the sooner I'm there, the sooner I'll be back." I didn't call the office. So when I was 10 miles from home, I got a text from work. I have no real surgeries tomorrow, two animals for sedation and x rays, do I want to just have other vet do it. My other vet is now working all day Tuesday, I didn't have to come home today emoticon

However, I am home sitting on my porch, which means I pretty much have tomorrow off. I can take my time in the morning, workout, do what little I have at work, hit the gym. Then curl up with a book. Not too bad! I'll be out of here in 2 1/2 weeks, not a full week in any of them!

Have a great night everyone!

Hello Team,

No news yet emoticon Today is the day she is supposed to call. DD s both happy for us and sad for herself. I asked her, "Why did you say you were good with us moving, the first time I asked her in April?" She said, for us she was, but she cried all day after she hung up. I understand and I won't stop a move if all of this works out. My stomach has been in knots for days. Limbo is not good. I stepped on the scale today, up 5 pounds, yet now I feel I can do this.

Peg, I'm going to Lowe's with my friend and I will look for that spray, or the one Kathie suggested. Please do some art.

Kathie did you have fun at the flea market.

Beryl, sorry your back to working but you did get some fabulous summer vacations. I wish DD would teach at a school where she'd get all summer off, too.

I'll let you know when I know, ~hugs, Lori

Good morning Team!
BERYL, just where did the summer go???? Not only is there a change in the morning light, but have you noticed we start losing the light around 7? I'm not so happy about that, either.

Went to the gym. That effen bosu ball was part of my circuit today and guess what? I am finally able to get on and off without feeling like I will fall on my face or have to use something for support. Baby steps. TODAY I WILL CLEAN MY HOUSE!!!!!! Shouting for myself, really. No painting today; we'll try Thursday.
Wishing all a good day.

AND....just like that I'm back! Happy first day of school!
Already busy, with paperwork, not kids yet. That'll come soon.
HOt out. When did it stop being light out at 6am?? Shows how often I see that time of day! Like, only when I have to work!
I"m planning to only eat when hungry and only what I want. I brought my breakfast frittata, some grapes, some cut up veggies, my soup and a salad. We'll see how hungry I get. Last week I only ever ate soup or salad, not both. We'll see. Getting up so early may change my times.
Have a good day ladies!!

Good evening team. Home from the concert where my friend who also teaches with me confirmed the school is not being nice to us about all this last minute stuff. But it's mostly done and I feel better. Concert was fun--60s and 70s cover band complete wtih costumes!
Lori, I totally agree with Peg.Please do not let DD2 influence your decision about moving. She's an adult and maybe this move will help her see that?? You and DH will decide what's best for you two and no one else. Sorry about your squirrels!!
Peg, I haven't heard the weather but it was sure hot today. Even in the evening sitting outside was ugly and I was sweating. Felt really good to come home to my a/c and shower. How is DD and DGS doing?
HI to the rest of my team. Have a good evening!

Good evening Team!
LORI, you are correct. Ex-hubs and I are much better as friends. Good luck with the squirrel wars. (I have to go out and pick what green beans are left; the deer apparently like them.) Good luck with this tough, huge decision. I understand DD being upset, but she should be happy for you guys. That's what adults do. Be happy for others even if it's not what we want. She's not a little kid anymore and it's no longer all about her. As for eBay, this particular one was not "buy it Now". Other similar ones which were buyable, were six or more times more expensive. Crazy, right?
BERYL, you can't seriously have to be getting ready to teach again??? Truly summer is over and I'm crying in my wine. Hope your biking was enjoyable. Beautiful weather heading our way; hopefully you'll get it, too.
KATHIE, did you find some great things when you were "flea-ing"?
Hope you're enjoying camp, DR SUE.
NICKY, how goes it with you.
Off to rescue my green beans. May go painting tomorrow. Thursday would be a much nicer day, but the car will be in the shop all day. Although I requested a loaner, I won't know until Wed. if I'll get one.
Wishing a good evening to all!

Hello Team,

Beryl I think you made the right choice, about the concert. I'm sorry about your sister thing, that stinks. Happy Dancing on the .8 down. ( auto correct changed it to apply dancing emoticon ). I'm also concerned with your pain. Please be gentle on your body, for me.

Kathie, have so much fun at the flea market. How, to be redundant, fun. To you and Peg, I went to Green Thumb, they have sold me two squirrel repellents, My squirrels seem to love them and the cayenne pepper too, wth? I'm gonna ask for the spray and by the time I'm squirrel free we'll be gone.

Peg, I'm glad to know the stink will be temporary, and will work. It seems as if ex-hubs is a better person as friends. You can "buy it now" on e-bay, I do it all the time. You'd probably find the exact tri-pod.

Well Dd2 is here and she had a HUGE meltdown last night. She is so unhappy about our possible move. OMG, she cried and cried. DH told her how excited he was to change plants and move. She was a wreck, they came home early from Universal as her stomach was in knots. Mine, was too, all day. DH is leaning toward the move, he's all in. I'm not sure, 100% yet.

~sending much love to my team, Lori

Good Sunday morning team. Gorgeous day.
Dinner could have been worse so that's good. My sister is playing martyr hard even though it's her choice to stay free with my mother for a week . I think it's too much.
My mother has been making some bad choices lately such as getting in a step stool to trim bushes. Interesting she said nothing to me about it. I would not have been nice about it.
Peg sorry you missed the eBay win. The hike sounds lovely
Enjoy the sale Kathie!
You guys convinced me to not go. I need to get my class together for Thursday since they changed it in me last week!!! I need to be marginally more ahead of the students!!
I am NEVER late for work or the gym. Everywhere else I'm usually running a bit late and hate it
Off to finish my tea and do a bike ride. Have a wonderful day ladies

Lori, I'm sorry you need to wait until next week for an answer. Limbo is a tough place. I had good luck keeping the nasty red squirrels away with Ortho Animal Be-Gone spray. Ask a local garden center (but probably not a big box store) what they recommend.

Peg your hike sounded lovely. I was also trained to be early. The training took with 5 out of the 6 of us siblings. We cannot be late for anything. I'm going to be out the door in a minute to meet a friend to go to the monthly flea market.

Berly, you can't do everything? LOL. I find that hard to believe! Seriously, pick the one that's the most fun. I'd opt for the concert. And I agree, prepping food for the week was high on my list when I wanted sanity especially when I was working. Actually I still like to only cook about 2 or 3 times a week and live on leftovers.

Nicky, yoga did a world of good for me too. Actually cured a persistent shoulder problem no doctor or PT sessions could help. My practice is less strenuous but that is what suits me. There are so many types of yoga practice. I try to explain that to friends who are afraid to try it because they think they need to be flexible and they think they need to compete with some image of perfection.

Speaking of perfections, DrSue, I hope that's what your time at camp is.

OK -- off to "Flea For Y'all"

Happy Saturday evening Team!
Went for a hike with ex-hubs this morning and it was beautiful...a trail through the woods and lots of small waterfalls along the way. The main falls were nice, but not as impressive due to our lack of rain. Ex-hubs is really familiar with hiking in the area and was surprised that I came up with a place he had never been before. Lots of people out in the woods...groups of young people, families, older people (that would be me and ex-hubs) and lots of people brought their dogs. A beautiful day, very warm but low humidity. Up in the mountains where we were it was 82, back down where I live 91. Did my first bid on ebay and lost...how sad. I had it until the last second. Was looking for an inexpensive tripod for a plein air box I want to get.
Watched the Yankees and they are on fire! especially the "baby bombers" lol
BERYL, sorry you have to choose between a concert and a mini reunion. Annoying when there's not much going on and then two things on the same day. Congrats on the loss. Took me 2 weeks to drop .5 lb. What's with that?????? Arriving late? I'm quite intolerant about that. I am always punctual but was trained by ex-hubs to be early because in his world, being on time was being late.
LORI, try spraying your flowers. I lost my gerberas one year, but it was to deer. Ask at the local garden center what to use. I've used Liquid Fence and Deer Defeat. Like I said, stinky while spraying, but once it dries, no odor. Good luck to DH. How wonderful to have a better situation and not have to move!
Should go get my chicken thighs out of the oven and have some dinner.
Hi NICKY, DR SUE (hope you're enjoying camp) and KATHIE!
Wishing a good evening for all.

Hi team. Hope all is well.
Lori, another curveball! I guess what we're all hearing from this is that speaking up matters! Folks don't know what we want/need until we tell them. I pray he gets his money and good route!!
Nicky, I think I'd like yoga but the times aren't good at this point. I do try and meditate when i can't sleep but that isn't working. I need more instruction there, I think.
So my sister and mother should have been at my daughters over an hour and a half ago, but just strolled in. UGH. Going to be a long night. Tomorrow is supposed to be my nursing school mini reunion and there's a fun concert at a local park tomorrow night too. I think I may bag the reunion to have time to cook and prep for the week so I'm not stressed when we come back from the concert tomorrow night. Can't do everything.
Did some weights and half a zumba today, and along with some excedrin, helped a lot.
And down .8 this morning at WI, which surprised me with my joint pain. I was thrilled.
Off to shower. Have a good one ladies

Hello Team,

The saga continues. DH would like to accept the job if and only if they make it the same or more than he is earning now. It wasn't and he was in the car and gonna come home. I told him to go right back into her office and tell her why he should have the route that he was scre#ed out of. He did, and they spoke for another hour or so. She said she will speak to the higher ups and see if they could get the salary of this new job up and over his current job. Then she also offered him the route that was open due to a death of a beloved drive. She said that the route would definitely pay as well as he is earning now. She wants him up there and he wants to be there. She is the 2nd GM who told him if he had spoken to them about the great $$$ route that opened up where we are and given to a newby, they would have given it to him. Now that would be the ultimate, no move involved and while I'd love to be up there with my DD and grandbabies, it's a move and I don't look forward to moving even one bit. So, yesterday was, yet another day in limbo, and it will be until Monday when she calls with the numbers, etc.

On to my garden, yes Peg, they are eating all of my flowers. Two, in particular, my gerbera daises and petunias, every time one blooms, they eat them. I'm so happy that they leave my front garden alone and everything is so pretty up there. Have you ever seen someone moving all of their potted plants to a new home?, they will all be coming with me.

This next question is for Dr. Sue, but Dr. Sue is at camp and relaxing so I'll ask her when she returns.

Beryl, Wow, that is all I can say about you.

Peg, I'm glad that you will be vacuuming and using your pool but not happy about the heat and humidity.

Nicky, you are Gunther's world. Of course he'd miss you. I'm glad that Yoga saved you. I wonder if the instructor was cute. Your fat squirrels are running amok, I'm sorry.

Kathie, I prayed for you over Shabbot Candles, last night. I hope that you and your kids are doing well.

DH and DD2 are at Universal Studios, enjoying Harry Potter for her birthday this time. I'm so excited for them, me, I don't like it at all, especially the rides, so I'm staying home.

~prayed for all of my Team last night, wishing you all a great Saturday, Lori

BERYL, probably a few yoga classes first would be a good idea instead of jumping into aerial yoga.
I started "power yoga" in earnest when DS was 17 years old. I was either going to go crazy or murder him or both. I saw this guy, Bryan Kest, on television advertising his new video and found out his studio was in Santa Monica, a mere 3 miles from me!

Learning to breathe through difficult situations (in this case, an intense yoga pose) in an otherwise safe place (the yoga studio) literally saved my sanity. Helped cure my constant lung problems, too. Can't say enough about a good, sweaty yoga session.

Thank heaven a rotten day lasts for only a day!

LORI, the squirrels get to my figs, persimmons, and guava before I can get to most of them. What they don't get, the birds peck at. Can't win around here.
I have overweight squirrels!!!!!

PEG, you may be right about Gunther. Come to think of it, he NEVER leaves my side. Today is three years since he came to live with us! He'll be four years old October 4.

Cousin Alice lost her kitty at age 20. Since then, the neighbor cat has coming over for a visit. At first he just took breakfast in her kitchen. A few weeks later, he's making himself comfortable in her living room chair! She NEVER let her cat onto that chair.
I guess we "older" parents are more indulgent.

Trader Joe's has a Green Tahini Sauce that is out of this world yummy; a lighter change of pace from the regular Tahini Sauce. I use it as a dip for veg, but I made egg salad with it instead of mayonnaise. I HATE mayonnaise, always have.

When you arise in the morning,

give thanks for the morning light, for your life and strength.

Give thanks for your food and the joy of living.

If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies in yourself.

Good morning ladies. Hot and sunny here, supposed to get nice again by Sunday.
Totally swamped at work, but the end of the charts I have to look at so far seems in sight! Hoping to run out at lunch to do barre.
Peg, hoping for a quick and painless EMG, then some pool time.
Hi to all, have a great day!

Good morning Team!
NICKY, Guenther is bored because he is missing you and doesn't have his person around to play and walk with.
LORI, hoping the salary is what you need. As for the squirrels, are they eating your plants or just digging them up? Squirrels here don't usually eat the plants (the veggies in the plants like tomatoes and peppers and fruits) but they will dig them out of planters. There are sprays that keep deer, rabbits, woodchucks and the like from eating plants. You can spray the plants or spray the containers. One warning...when you spray it STINKS, but as soon as it dries there is no odor. If they're wreaking havoc by digging in the planters, you can put pieces of broken planters or even jar lids on top of the soil and then they can't dig. Ask at your local garden center for ideas.
BERYL, YOU'RE CRAZY!!!!!! step and barre and aching from aerial yoga. Sorry the meeting was horrible (and you suspected it would be like that). Zumba is way too dance-y for me...I of little to no coordination, rhythm or grace.
DR SUE, you must be on your way! Hooray!!!!!
KATHIE, glad your short trip was a good one and that the "kids" did well. I was so relieved when mine were ok with the sitter, that I feel I can consider going away again. Wednesday was pastels class.
Off for my EMG. Hoping it's fairly quick and I can make it to my oils class. Humidity is back. I'd better vacuum the pool, too.
A good day to all!

Good evening ladies. Long day.
Awful, terrible, no good rotten day. Bad ugly nurses meeting. THen I lost my mind and did a step class. Then lost what I had left and did a short barre class. lol I'm cooked!!
Lori, I'm glad DH likes what he's done so far. I hope the pay matches!
Peg, are you in the pool at all this week? It's going to get hotter again.
Kathie, how was zumba? Isn't it fun? It's mindless, unlike STEP where you have to think every single minute! Or maybe that's just me??
DrSue, I hope you're relaxing at camp!!

Hello Dear Team,

No, we don't the salary yet. He already finished his first day at the plant, and he liked it. It was more physical than he thought but ok. Now we have to wait another 24 hours before we know our possible future. It is so hard not knowing. But last night I went out with my beloved friend of more than 20 years. We went to the bowling alley bar where one of her daughter's work. We had wine and popcorn and talked till close to 10pm, then talked in the car till midnight. She said, look there is a skunk, I thought she was kidding me but there was a skunk, as big as a raccoon. This skunk has been spraying for weeks. We did not get out of the car for a long time after we spotted him. OMG, she has skunks and I have squirrels, bad, nasty, flower and plant eating brats and she has skunks.

Beryl, I'm proud of you for trying. That was huge and I understand that not all exercise is for all people. You already do so many that unless you want to change it up why?

Kathie, I'm glad that Charlie and Annie enjoyed there "camp", how awesome. Yes, go to the Gym and enjoy yourself.

Peg, please help me stop these squirrels, they are eating my plants as if they are lettuce. All of my beautiful Gerbera Daisies get eaten as soon as they bloom, petunias and others. I don't want to hurt the birds or plants but want to repel the squirrels. They rolled around in the cayanne pepper as if it was sand. I'm so fed up with them. emoticon

Nicky, enjoy your new clothes, don't feel guilty.

Dr. Sue are you off yet?

~hugs to my Team, Lori

Oh Beryl, I'm so sorry your class was a bust. Was it some kind of intro or demo class? Is it at the Y? Students shouldn't be sharing swings. And classes should be very small since the instructor really needs to work with each student. And I would think that if you had no prior yoga practice that it would be difficult and/or intimidating. First thing in yoga is about breathing and the second is that its not a competition even with yourself. You don't pay any attention to how well (you perceive) another is doing and you don't compete even with yourself. Every day is different and our bodies do not always respond the same way. I have practiced yoga for about 25 years and it took a while for that to sink in. I know the inversion pose and I love that one. My core was sore when I first started aerial but only early on. I haven't visited the facility here yet. I want to see their setup before I sign up for classes. I have my own swing and I plan to install it in my guest room eventually.

Nicky, I'm sure Gunther misses you when you are gone. You're his best pal. Charlie & Annie like to board. They must consider it sleep-away camp. Lots of dogs and people and new things to sniff. When I pulled into the vet parking lot they were very excited. And when I picked them up they were happy to see me. They napped hard for 2 days afterward so I think they had a good time. I was told Samantha missed me and spent time looking out the back door for me.

Lori I hope things work out the best for you and your DH. It sounds like you would be happy either way and that's a good thing. I'm so happy that you aren't in pain. I hope this lasts.

DrSue, sorry you have to work all day today but soon today will be over and you will be on your way to camp.

Peg, how was your class? What are you doing this time? Pastels or ...? I signed up for a drawing class at the college also one on current events and a science class. Schedules come out next week so I'll see if I got into them. If not I have some others that I was interested in.

Finally got back to TRX last night. I knew it would be hard after my hiatus and the floor exercises were challenging. I was surprised and happy that I had retained upper body strength but I haven't exactly been sitting around the pool drinking Margaritas. In a few minutes I'm going to zumba. I really want to reestablish my gym habit. My energy has been low and my mood low as well. I know exercise can help with the endorphins.

PEG, yes, I'm thrilled with the SW flight L.A. to Denver at $84 one way, $168, it turned out to be, TOTAL! I'd go visit DD more often at those prices. DH is willing to care for Gunther, but he won't play with him or walk him, I'm pretty sure. He says Gunther just mopes when I'm gone, but I think he's bored, not missing me.

I still feel funny about spending so much for workout clothes, but, hey, I do practically live in them. The Tech T and sweatshirt from LuLuLemon are nice to wear on the street. Any way, that's what I wear on top with a skort on the rare occasions I see clients. Here in CA, if you throw on a pretty scarf, you're all dressed up!!!!

If I had my way, all assisted living institutions would feed their patients/residents only non-processed foods and cook everything in olive oil, MCT/coconut oil, or ghee.
The medium chain triglycerides in MCT and coconut oil have proven to improve neurogenisis.
I'd make sure seniors got things like blueberries, turmeric, and fish oils for the Omega 3s, particularly DHA.
That's what would happen in my world.

KATHIE and BERYL, why aerial yoga? Is it easier on the body? Does it make you feel like you're in Cirque du Soleil? I used to take Barre classes, but I felt like a total clod.

BERYL, the loud restaurant thing is annoying in the first place; when going there with someone who doesn't hear well, it's a nightmare!
My b-i-l wouldn't pop for the better hearing aids, so he gets all the background noise in a restaurant and goes almost mad.

I probably won't remember my purchase on my death bed at 120. Thank you for putting it all in perspective!

OH, DRSUE, we're entitled to stomp our feet and let the tears flow when our plans are thwarted. You clearly need the time away.
Not a good sigh, though, that the new vet contracted pneumonia.

LORI, what interesting times for you. Your angels are having some fun with you.

KATHIE, how absolutely lovely that the gentlemen serenaded you! How did Charlie and Annie do at the vet hotel? So good that you got that little break from the routine and endless list.

Making chicken thighs paprikas tonight with green beans.

When you arise in the morning,

give thanks for the morning light, for your life and strength.

Give thanks for your food and the joy of living.

If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies in yourself.

Good evening team. Definitely getting hotter again.
Back from aerial yoga. There were more of us than there were silks, so we had to share. Not everyone was good at sharing. THere was a girl clearly familiar with the whole thing, like she'd been in Cirque de Soleil. I felt like a moron. I don't know yoga so was not familiar with any of that. I did something where I went upside down hanging by my legs. I am VERY SORE!!! I don't think I'd do it again because I'd be afraid the others would catch on way quicker than I would and I'd be embarrassed and left behind. There would only be like 4 in a class so it might not be, but if even 1 knew what they were doing, I'd look stupid. I just don't think I'd get that much out of it. Maybe I need to do yoga and get some background?? I did send a picture to my children. lol
Lori, when will you find out about the money??
DrSue, I totally understand how upset you are. Plan something really special for yourself when you leave. Please take care of yourself. That exhaustion is awful.
Peg, is there another show coming up?
Kathie, I hope you got some things done today. I'm sure you did.
Nicky, how are you?
Nurses meeting tomorrow. I'm already nauseated. UGH and double UGH.
Off to dinner. Made ziti the other day and a big salad.
Have a good evening ladies!

Hello Team,

Thank you for your love and support. I'm feeling more calm now. I spent all day, well a lot of it, looking at houses again. DH will go up there after work tonight, I will be praying that he gets there safely, as he gets up at 3:00am. I wish that he would have asked what his salary would be, prior, to going up, but, alas he didn't. Unless or until we know that it's a substantial raise or what he earns now, it's a no go. He's just happy to be off of his route for two days.

Dr. Sue, of course you cried, I understand, you had everything set up for your leaving and then she got sick. I'm glad that everything will work out, but I totally understand. I guess we were both in tears yesterday.

Kathie, I got the chills when reading about the men singing to you ladies. Wow, what a treat, that you so needed and deserved.

Nicky, I'm glad that you got yourself this clothing, you do deserve it. At first I thought that Lulu Lemon was ice cream or something, lol. It's so nice to hear when you do something for You. Great score on your SW tickets.

Peg, which class were you talking about? Hopefully, an Art class.

Beryl, I'm excited to find out if you loved the aerial Yoga. I'm not sure why your sister is so uneducated on the elderly and their hearing. That could ruin the whole outing if your Mom kept saying, what's that, I can't hear you.

Yesterday I walked 30 mins on the TM, 10 mins more, still didn't feel pain. I'm going out with my friend today so maybe I'll walk even further later.

~wishing my Team a wonderful day, Lori

Hi team. Kathie, I'm glad you had a good trip, and made a new friend.
Lori, life certainly can be unexpected. It will be good either way.

Nicky, I concur, they were not naughty. Sometimes you just need to do something for you.
Gunther is a lucky dog, but it sounds like you've got his number. A pocket full of itty bitty biscuits, and you can walk to the ocean daily.

Peg, I hope you got the mowing done before it got too hot. I too hope your mother's med ps kick in and she will be more complient.

Beryl, you'll have to let us know how aerial yoga is to you. I with I had your PTA! Kathie, did you sign up?

Well, I got a call today from my new vet. She is in the hospital with pneumonia. I am of course cancerned for her, but I got off the phone and cried. At work. However, my other vet is going to cover Friday and Monday. I called another local practice, and on Sat if there are sick patients they will cover for me. Jill may be able to do Sat. So, I'm still going. DH keeps saying, "the only thing that's changed is that you have to work all day Thursday, and you'll leave Friday." I know in my head he's right, but I'm still depressed. I'm too tired to handle that kind of emotional roller coaster right now. emoticon

Good morning ladies. Feeling very frazzled today. Going in too many directions. I need to focus.
Lori, the best thing ever is having choices! I hope DH is given the money and everything he deserves so you can make a choice. As someone said, either one is a good one--staying in your beautiful home or moving closer to the babies and making another beautiful home.
Peg, hopefully the meds kick in soon.
Kathie, your couple of days sounded lovely!! You do TRX too?? That's another really hard one!
I could have skipped out to hit the Y today but I'm really bogged down so after work I have a manicure then will hit the gym before my aerial yoga. Feeling pudgy from only doing one workout yesterday. I know that's crazytown. I know it.
HI to everyone else. Back to work

Beryl I'm sorry for all the family drama. I hope you love the aerial yoga. I miss it and it had slipped my mind that there is one studio offering a class here. I looked it up and its offered on Saturday afternoon. I'm leaning toward signing up. And very cool that the PTA is so thoughtful..

Nicky, I agree. If it make you happy its no naughty. You do so much for others its nice to hear you treated yourself to something. Good work on the airfare.

Oh Lori, back in limbo. You & DH are in my prayers that what is right for both of you is what will happen, when it happens. I'm glad you aren't in pain. Hope you can stay that way.

DrSue, one day closer to vacation!

Peg, it sounds to me like your mom wants your attention for whatever reason. Didn't you say something about when she's been on the meds for a certain amount of time that they should kick in and start to help. I am so poor at understanding anything medical.

The quick trip was fine. The rep from Virginia was even nicer in person We had a fun time and accomplished our planning goals. We ate in restaurants and I didn't make particularly smart choices. Maybe I was feeling contrary. At dinner on Monday night we were in a nearly empty small-ish room and a group of 8 men were sitting at a nearby table. They started singing in the most beautiful harmony. Turns out they are part of the "Virginia Gentlemen" Barbershop Chorus (28 voices). They sang 3 songs and of course we applauded. When they we ready to leave they stopped at our table and serenaded us with "Let me call you sweetheart". It was lovely and gave me chills because it was my grandparents' song.

My to do list is mile long and some of the tasks are unpleasant so so I need to get started.

I signed up for TRX tonight. I haven't been since June,

Good morning Team! Another beautiful day
BERYL, I'm excited to hear how you like aerial yoga. KATHIE, that's what you like, right? As for where to eat...yup it is an issue and if the point is that everyone have as enjoyable a time as possible, then, no, you're not making too much of it. Number of people and noise level was/is always a consideration when mom is involved. Lovely doing a trail walk. Now, if only it was a beach walk...sigh
Went to the gym, came home and fed and took care of the critters. Will try to get some weeding in before class this afternoon.
Wishing all a great day.

Evening team. Starting to heat up here.
Did a long trail walk today. Felt good but hot! Hated only exercising once today.
Nicky, enjoy those purchases. They are NOT "naughty." On your deathbed, at 120, will you be happy you didn't buy them? Or remember fondly how wonderful you felt and looked in them? There you go.
Tomorrow is my aerial yoga. Scared to death. Also scared I'll love it. lol
Leftovers from the freezer tonight. Never know what you're going to find!
Sister coming in Saturday. UGH. So we're all meeting for dinner. Her wife and stepdaughter don't come in till Tuesday. The circus is making many trips this year. lol. So the discussion tonight among my sister and brother was where to eat because my mother gets upset when places are too loud and there's more than 3 people and she can't hear anyone. My sister got fed up with the discussion and told us we were making too much of it. Uh, no we aren't, but she'll have to deal with it, not us.
Made a decision, I'll call tomorrow for reservations.
There WILL be lots of drinks. Before, during, and after.

NICKY, do those purchases make you happy? Then, they are not a "naughty". Enjoy them. That's a great price for a flight, right? Hope NM does ok.
LORI, it will all work out. As we would tell KATHIE, it just doesn't always (actually hardly ever) happens in our preferred timeline.
BERYL, chair massages! yay...hope you get to the mini reunion.
DR SUE, one day closer!!!!
Good evening to all!

DRSUE, Thursday is just around the bend. You're doing great work and deserve that break.
We are not automatons, so quit fretting about being exactly OP.

BERYL, What a fabulous PTA you have!! Do you find the parents tend to helicopter, or are you in a district where the parents are more hand off?

PEG, what an interesting thought experiment about left brain/right brain intricacies.
Yes, Gunther is such a character. He'll be 4 in October, and he's finally starting to be a little more laid back at home. I can even skip a day of walks, and as long as I toss the ball a bit, he's fine and not doing crazy dog in the evening.

LORI, take those breaths. Life is so full of unexpected events. Plan, plan, write it down, anticipate every possibility. . . . . . . . never quite works out.
Whether you stay in your lovely home or find a new adventure nearer to the grand babies, it's a win-win.

Purchased Southwest airline tickets for my trip to Denver on sale for $187 round trip! Non-refundable but re-usable, just in case something untoward occurs between now and Oct. 6.

'Nother mother, 97, sounds so weak, that poor dear. She's in tons of pain yet still has a ready laugh and is more concerned with others than her own frailties. She has oxygen and is using it day and night because of the fires up there. Even Muggles the Shih Tzu is sneezing and wheezing.
I'll go for a one-week visit in the middle of September.

I did a naughty. I went to LuLuLemon today and purchased a red/black tech T AND a midweight tailored sweatshirt in a heathered blue which looks more like charcoal---goes with anything. They weren't on sale, either, but I do get a professional discount of 15%. I don't know what got into me.

When you arise in the morning,

give thanks for the morning light, for your life and strength.

Give thanks for your food and the joy of living.

If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies in yourself.

Hello Team,

OMG, just when I felt the relief of being OUT of Limbo and could take a breath....The GM at the Fresno plant called DH to offer him a job as the production manager, as the plant's current is going off to be a GM. He will do a two day follow and interview and see if it pays enough. I just got done telling my kids that the position is not going to work. Believe it or not, I was relieved, I was so happy to melt into my home that I love, my beautiful gardens and to say it will happen in G-d's time. Well, I'm thinking G-d wasted no time and I don't want to get my hopes up until, or unless, DH and this job is a good fit. I'm feeling anxiety, at present. We've been hoping and praying for a better, less heavy work and more paying job and this may just be the one.

I walked for 20 minutes on the TM yesterday, felt ok, no hip and or back pain. I will take baby steps. I, also, met my friend at K-mart and all of their garden decor was 70% off. I will have to go back today as one of the solar lights, globe with a red cardinal on top has a short.

Nicky, naughty Gunther, he is a character for sure. Now I picture my, beloved Uncle's, dog when you tell us of his behavior. Good job on teaching DH how to do the things so you don't become his assistant. My Dad and his wife have their own business. He is 83, she is 60+, and it keeps them living fine. He wants to turn it over to us, when he retires. He sells what my DH's employer uses, it could be a win, win. I really believe we are what we eat and our bodies could tell us what they need if we really listened. Great research.

Dr. Sue, you can do this. So close. Great job on the spin.

Peg, I'm glad that your Momma feels better when you're around. It's funny how she forgets who you are but also how she loves it when you are around. There is something inside of her who knows, loves and trusts you. Did you mow yet?

Beryl, how lovely, chair massages. You have so much happening that is good in your life, I'm excited with you, and for you.

Kathie, what's going on? I can't remember if you have gone to your conference yet.

Good afternoon ladies. First day back. The PTA provided chair massages. YAY!
I remember the DIsney Petes Dragon movie with the live action/animation blend. Very fun.
DrSue, you skipped dinner? What is that??? Glad you're done after this morning!!
I have a candidates meet and greet tonight so looking forward to that. My old nursing class is having a mini reunion on Sunday and gonna try and make it. Time isn't great, but we'll see. It's about 40 minutes away so do-able.
Lovely day here. Gorgeous blue sky, puffy white clouds, low humidity. Everything a day should be!
Enjoy your day.

Good morning Team! and what a lovely morning it is, too. Went biking by the reservoir (so beautiful) and now will mow the #$^& lawn. Getting my activity minutes in today for sure.
NICKY, that Guenther is a sly one, lovable but sly (and aren't they all) As for the mct's I don't think I have much control over what she takes in that regard. Probably if she would just take her meds she would be better off. Three days in a row I've gone out to give them to her after she refuses to take them for staff. Takes them fine for me and she'll let the aides do her personal care stuff, too, when I am there. Guess I'm just her security blanket. Odd how those old story lines are so disturbing. I have a very difficult time watching movies where people are cruel or mean to others (and animals). Cried every time I read Black Beauty.
DR SUE, it's coming up fast, now. Yes, our plans get sidetracked by friends and family, but you seem to be handling it. I might have difficulty skipping supper. Hope the surgeries go well.

Interesting email from Susan Peirce Thompson of Bright Line Eating re split brains. The studies they did on people who had the connection between their brain halves surgically severed to stop epileptic seizures. Of course her focus was what it means for eating habits. But a portion struck me, how the left side makes up "stories" to explain strange behavior. Wonder if those suffering from dementia have a left side that remains stronger and less affected. Mom is a champ at coming up with stories to explain some pretty illogical stuff. Just a thought.

LORI, glad you enjoyed Pete's Dragon. I've always wanted to have a dragon ever since I read the Dragons of Pern series by Anne McCaffrey. And then after I saw "How To Train Your Dragon" (and didn't that dragon act cat-like) I really wanted one. Too bad they are creatures of myth and fantasy.
Hi BERYL, hope your day goes well. And yes, I have had my annual squishing and yes, that edge always presses into me, not to mention they press down so hard that I think they're going to rip it right off.
KATHIE, hope you are enjoying or have enjoyed your short trip.
Wishing all a good day.

Peg

Morning Team. Lori, thanks for the encouragement, 2 days, I can do it! I've been off my routine. I have done my spins,( but if I don't get moving I'll miss today) not made it to the gym, suddenly DH and other friends have been around, so it's been " let's go out for a late lunch". Eat too much, drink more than normal. I've been so tired. I have skipped dinner four nights in a row. I guess that's better than eating more. I think I feel a little better today. I have surgeries this morning and I'm done.

Nicky, funny about the first version of Pete's Dragon. We have a live theater in town, I rarely make it. Last year my office decided to go see Oliver! What a horrible story, child abuse and trafficking, domestic abuse and murder!

Im keeping up with you all I know you'll forgive me for doing a quick hi to you all, but I HAVE TO GO SPIN!

LORI, so you saw Pete's Dragon, too!! I purchased the original DVD musical with Helen Ready, Micky Rooney, and Shelly Winters. It was one of Disney's live actors with animation. Elliot the dragon was a cartoon and so adorable. I liked both versions, but the older version just wouldn't play today, unlike Mary Poppins.
Micky Rooney was a drunk, and Pete was an orphan purchased by the mean Cogan family who abused him. Just so politically incorrect!

I also purchased the DVD of Mama Mia! to watch when I visit 'nother mother. I doubt that she has seen it, and the music is so uplifting.

Gunther was a real trooper for our first 5 miles to the ocean; he was a demon for the last 3 miles home. He had plenty of water and plenty of treats, and we stopped to rest in the shade more often than he needed to. What he "needed" was another cookie. He didn't collapse when we got home, either. He was ready to play some ball. So, now I KNOW he fakes his "distress." He'll do anything for a treat. Yum. Lamb lung.

It started. DH has asked me to fax a document for him. Instead, I showed him how to use the fax machine in my office.

Just this evening he presented me with a letter to type. It's only Monday!!!!
Oh, well. I understand his old assistant is coming back on a Saturday at the beginning of the month to do his billing for him, so I can get to my work.

PEG, are you familiar with Dr. Mary Newport's work on medium chain triglycerides (MCT oil) and dementia? She went from being a neonatologist to a hospice doctor.
Dominic D'Agostino (whatta hunk!) is also working on ketones and the brain.
I'M TAKING MCT OIL from now on!!!

Maybe mom could benefit from the addition of some MCT?

I'm going in the pool tomorrow, even if I have to bring my work in there with me!!

give thanks for the morning light, for your life and strength.

Give thanks for your food and the joy of living.

Good Monday evening team. Weird here. Just delightful outside--warm but low humidity. Turned the air off but it never cools off in here. Up to 83 in the dining room meaning it's warmer upstairs. a/c is back on and feels wonderful.
Mammogram hurt! The side of the shelf kept digging into me. Then the radiology girl and I were talking so much we finished, I got dressed, and she had to call me back to redo some because she hadn't done the 3D I get and paid for. Not a big deal, but it took a huge amount of time because clearly they weren't busy and this woman had nothing to do but chat. I had just done zumba and muscle pump and wanted to eat!!
Lori, yikes, feel better!! I love the frozen cranberry idea. I used to use peas and carrots. lol Sounds like a fun date night!
Peg, were you able to find the whiskey?
Hi to DrSue, Nicky, Kathie, and anyone else out there.

Hello Team,

It's weird outside. Not really sunny but hot nonetheless. We ended up going on a date last night. First to see Pete's Dragon, we loved it, then to BJ's for dinner. We had a very good time.

Yes, Beryl, I had my annual Mammogram in March, every March. I've been doing this since I was 40, many eons ago, lol. It's because it's, not only the right thing to do, but my Mom died from breast cancer. I hope that yours goes smoothly and does not hurt.

Peg, enjoy the cooler temps and only mow if a lot cooler, please.

I've created a knot on my forehead, ugh. Ran into the bathroom door frame, ouch. I put frozen cranberries on it and I'll be fine.

Good Monday morning team. Gorgeous day!
Lazy morning. Still in my jammies. Made a couple of dinners for the week and got my breakfasts and lunches together. Scheduled some appointments. Now off to get dressed and do muscle pump and zumba, then off to my yearly mammogram.
Everyone scheduled/had theirs done??
Have a great day ladies.

Good morning Team! A little less hot and humid today.
Went to gym, home having my breakfast shake. Have to take my car in for regular servicing and to check out a noise that I find disturbing. Other than that, not much going on. Will probably mow this afternoon.
Wishing a great day to all my teamies!

Hello Team,

Beryl, I read your narration of the Blair Witch Project to my DH. He busted up laughing. I, totally, agree. When Will, my 5 year old, would hold the phone I could see his boogies, as he walked all around the house. It was so much fun as he showed me all of his toys. But talking to my DD was and still is almost impossible. I hope that you enjoy your wineries.

Kathie, enjoy, enjoy, enjoy, you so deserve this. I'm not sure if what we had was a mockingbird as we cannot hear hem when the sliding glass door is closed and the fans are on. Did it or they keep you from sleeping?

Peg, I'm so happy that you did not get to the shrubs. Wow, that is crazy that the facility called you to come out while she was asleep. You do deserve that chocolate whisky. I've never tasted whisky, but chocolate, does sound good.

Dr. Sue, 4 more days, you can do this.

Hello Nicky, how are you doing?

I'm not sure what we are or will be doing today. It's really nice to do nothing with my DH as he is out either working or sleeping so much. He said that the Quiet Man is a wonderful movie. Those darn squirrels are eating my beautiful flowers emoticon

~hugs, dear Team, Lori

Happy Sunday afternoon Team!
Mom refused meds again this morning and they called me. She was awake, just refusing, so I went out and she took them for me with no problems. The thought is once the depacote gets working she will be more compliant. While I was there her aide came in and asked if she could help mom change and clean up while I was there. Of course, because she is so much better when I am there, even if I'm just outside the door. So, it was a successful morning...meds + clean clothes...yay!!! I talked to the nursing supervisor about moving her evening med time up so there is less chance she will have fallen asleep and she agreed and noted it on the chart. Tonight I will go back at 6:30 for evening meds. Thinking just a couple of days of this and her meds will have kicked in and then I won't have to continue being "on duty".
KATHIE, enjoy this short trip. Yes, by BF I mean DD1's boyfriend and it was his nephew who died. I'll have to check fb to see if they made it. I did hear that the plane finally arrived in Hartford around 8:30 for what was supposed to be a 6:30 flight. And yup, you do love Charlie. We love them all differently, just like children. I, too, hated it when the toddlers had done the answering machine message. Thankfully, DD1 never did that with DGS. What play are you seeing?
BERYL, enjoy the winery! How could you not? :-) We had a little rain over night and I think we are in for storms off and on all day and night. Am going to try to find the choc. whiskey today. That will be my reward after my second med run of the day.

Mockingbirds here, too. Love hearing how they go from one song to another.
Hi LORI, DR SUE and NICKY.
This will be a very low energy day for me. Didn't get to sleep until after 4 a.m. ...oh my
Wishing a good day to all.

Good Sunday team. Just did a 3 mile walk then hitting Zumba. Before a winery. We're supposed to get storms today so we'll see if we make it. We are babysitting tonite. Already tired!!
Peg that was so inappropriate they called you after your mother was asleep. I've worked in long term care and that would/should never have happened. Really poor judgement on their part and please let the nursing supervisor know
Kathie have fun on your mini trip! I know it's work but any getaway is good! We all knew Samantha would come around!
Off to pack our stuff for the winery. Have a great day ladies!

Oh, and I forgot to mention that I have a mockingbird here. Or maybe more than one. But one likes to perch on my roof peak. The song goes on and on and changes so that's how I knew what it was. Still I looked it up just to be sure.

DrSue, I love the Quiet Man! Was it on last night? I watched Dirty Dancing recorded from a couple days ago. Charlie wears a harness. He loves wearing it. He weighs over 100# so its just hard to lift him when his legs splay. I will look into one with a handle. Sometimes I need to get him on his side and then I can maneuver his legs into a better position. I makes me sad when it happens so maybe I do love him.

Peg, I hope your mom's facility gets the message that if they can't wake her up for her meds that it makes so sense to drag you over to try. Good grief. And way to go to resist the pull of B & J. I gave in a few days ago. A 4 oz. cup from the grocery store. And guess what? It wasn't worth it. I'm thankful it didn't result on a return of the cravies. Did DD, DGS and friend make it to Disney? Is this the friend who lost her nephew recently? And leave the annoying shrubs for fall when its cooler.

Lori, glad you are out of limbo and the appraisal was good. I'm glad you feel good about the way it turned out. Yes,I also believe if and when its meant to happen it that it will. Thank you for your prayers. I spoke with my priest yesterday about my fear and anger over my situation. I felt better afterwards.

Beryl, so did you babysit or not. Your description of the kids on the phone reminded me of years ago when it was all the rage for parents to let the little ones record the greeting on the answering machine. Some would go on babbling for several minutes. I'm sure it was cute the first time the grandparents heard it but it drove me nuts.

Nicky, hope all is well.

Last night Samantha finally climbed all the way into my lap. She has turned out to be a very dear kitty.

Today I'm seeing a play downtown. I joined a local meetup of "Ladies who Love Live Theater." Then I need to pack for my brief trip to Virginia tomorrow. I am a rep for my professional association. My co-rep is in Virginia so we are meeting halfway for a planning day. The dogs are boarding at the vet and a friend will check in on Samantha.

Good evening Team!
DR SUE, I love "The Quiet Man", love the combo of John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara, even in McClintock. Hope your next few days are smooth sailing.
LORI, congrats on the appraisal! and taking care of yourself. We each know what we can tolerate and should plan our activities accordingly. No, I did not start ripping out the shrubs, way too hot.
BERYL, hope you either babysit or don't, whichever you prefer...lol

The meds might help if mom would take them. If it's a med time and I'm there, I'll give them to her, but she refuses a lot of the time. This afternoon when I was there, she had refused her meds and so I gave them to her. I told them to call me if she refused and if I was able, I'd go out and give it a try. Tonight they called me at 9:20. She had been sleeping and wouldn't wake up to take the meds. I went out and tried for over an hour, but no success. Finally I gave the meds back to the nurse, repeated that I was willing to come out and help, but if it was because she was sleeping it was a waste of time for me to even try. I emphasized that if she's awake, give me a call and I'll come. I was so frustrated that Ben & Jerry popped into my head. I valiantly fought them off, came home and had a shot of Fireball and my frozen cherries. Feeling good about not succumbing to B&J.
DD1, her BF and DGS are on their way to Disney, I hope. The last I heard their flight out of Hartford was delayed 3 times because of weather between wherever the plane was coming from and Hartford. Hoping they finally made it.
Sleep well, team.

Good evening team. Still humid out, but not as warm. I must be having a flash though-I can't keep cool all of a sudden. I'm too old for this nonsense!!
Lori, I'm glad you're out of limbo and the house appraised for more than you thought! That's great news.
Peg, I hope the new meds help your mother and allow you both some quality time apart and together.
DrSue--you can do this!! I'm sorry it's still so busy and stressful.
Kathie--sending you big hugs.
Nicky--how are you?
May babysit tomorrow night. Not sure yet. Made the offer, but wouldn't talk to DD because she lets the kids have the phone and it's like watching the Blair Witch Project and it makes me nauseated. So we'll see.
DD1 leaves September 10 for Cambodia. Quick trip though, only about 12 days. She goes back to Uganda in October. She loves it there so I'm glad for her.
I may hit the mall.......LOL
Have a good evening team!!

Hello Team,

I've got some news. The job transfer is out, it pays way too little, but the appraisal was recorded and it recorded as 5000, above what I thought. So good and bad or visa versa. It will happen when it is supposed to, getting out of this limbo is so refreshing. I was out with a friend yesterday, that is so good for me mentally. I was getting so depressed. The heat prevents me from gardening as much as I'd like so I'm stuck inside, alone.

Kathie, WTH, I'm so, so sorry. I did pray for you, last night, after lighting Shabbot candles. I'm praying that these new fees, legal, are low and that you can be done with this house once and for all. I'm not sure what his complaint could be, but you are a woman, alone, in that house for by yourself, and he has issues as a man? I just don't get it but will continue to have you in my heart and prayers. Yes, do some sketching. Your art will comfort your heart.

Beryl, you are a skinny mini. I'd take 145 any day, but I'm not willing to do the exercising. I'll take the little extra and save my body from the severe pain I feel afterward. I do hate my thighs, the upper parts are just jiggly and I can do my PT exercises to help with that, it's just doing them that is my problem. I'm still afraid of the scale too.

Dr. Sue, it's no fun being poofed. I think it has happened to us all, Kathie just a few days ago. It's sooooooooo frustrating. I'm glad there is only 5 days left before Camp. Being in Pjs is awesome. I'm sorry about the challenging cases ahead.

Peg, nooooooooo, better to wait till the weather cools down. I hope that you didn't already start that project. Do more art and stay cool.

~have a good evening Team, Lori

So team, the last part of my Poofed post was a lament, on top of everything it is a full moon. Oh my lord it was indeed. It was the longest/fastest 5 hours of my life. Let me see if I can remember the main parts of my post

Lori the tell tale identifying marks of a mockingbird are a tail that looks black, but when it flies, the outer tail feathers are white. They also have white wing patches. I find it difficult to identify by size, because as you said your bird was leaner than what peg posted. But you are at 100 degrees. In cold weather they fluff the feathers and hold air in as an insulator, so they look much bigger and fatter.

Kathie, there are some great harnesses hind and front end (and both)!that are comfortable for the dogs, but have great comfortable handles for you. They really help.

Peg, I'm glad the facility is keeping you informed. I'm sorry they changed med due to behaviors. I hope you made beautiful art at innisfree, I can only think of the Quiet man. Maybe that is a movie for tonight.

Beryl, only 2 classes a day, but you are resting? I'm struggling to get out of my own way. I fell asleep at 7 pm on Thursday. Slept all night. Last night not so much. I have a couple of stressful cases looming, so tomorrow will not be a day off. Enough

Nicky, I hope you got to the sea. Probably not with the heat. I am dying to get back to my shack on the lake. I can do it 5 more days. I should be done on Thursday around noon, but I am so tired I may stay here Thursday night and drive out like I usually did 5am Friday Am. So crazy, but we are catching up on the bills. DH left for a delivery, down to Newport. On my own until Monday.

I hope I caught up. Sitting on my porch, but soon leaning toward PJ's.

Happy Saturday team. Gotta watch those pornographic mushrooms!! lol
Up 2 at WI, but I'm still at 145 so I think that's where I'm staying. I'm OK with that. Considering I started out over 200, I'm fine with it.
Peg, so sorry!! It's Bird Dog brand chocolate whiskey. They have other favors too. But why?
Lori, you're a big old softy (and you're neither big nor old, but you ARE a softy!)
Oh, Kathie, block that sociopath! I'm glad you checked with your nephew and you're getting your own lawyer. I'm so so sorry. Please be kind to yourself.
Hi Nicky, DrSue, and anyone else I missed.
Off to finish my salad and nap!!
Have a good day team

Good morning Team!
Oh KATHIE, just when you think it is safe...what is wrong with that man? Maybe you nailed it when you called him a sociopath. Sorry you're still dealing with that crap after 4 months. On a good note, enjoy the play!
DR SUE, so the poofing trolls are bothering you now. This site is a little wonky this morning anyway, taking a long time to load pages (for me anyway) Glad you're still standing...mostly.

Warm, sunny and the cicadas are "singing" so it really sounds like summer. Found a couple of unfortunate souls in the skimmer. I've decided that I want to remove the two shrubs in front of my house, but I really don't want to start the process of clipping and sawing and digging and cursing and tugging and pulling...would love them to just magically uproot. Guess that's not happening so I should gather my tools and start at it (or maybe wait until it is a bit cooler)
Wishing all a good day.

DrSue, I hate that when the message poofs. I do like the naughty mushrooms though.

Lori, I could never think of you as evil. I know if you actually saw one of your pesky squirrels trapped in the yoplait cup you'd feel sorry for it.

Peg, what a thoughtful kitty. I will need to google "Death Wish" coffee. I have never heard of it. I should get back to sketching. For a while I used to try to sketch every day. Just for me. And I found it relaxing. I really need to put some structure back into my days.

Beryl, I need to mix it up too. With food and with exercise. And lately I have only been walking. I've lost my gym habit and I want to get it back. Today's not the day or tomorrow. I have appointments today and tomorrow I am going to a play. Monday & Tuesday I will be in Virginia for a meeting. See what I mean? I know I will feel better if I just get going. Like I said, I need to put structure back into my day.

Things aren't going well. I'm being harassed by the sociopath who bought my Mich house. I don't really want to get into it because talking or writing about it just makes it worse. I spoke with my nephew last night. He's a corp. attorney in Atlanta and he advised me to get an attorney in Mich.and is drafting a letter for me. The stress is horrible.

I'm going to clean today. Its the one thing I can do when I feel like this.

Hello Team,

1st off, Nicky, I hate silverfish, never knew the damage that they can do. I'm so sorry that they are attacking your beautiful wallpaper. Are they all over the house or just in your bedroom? If just in your bedroom, maybe a bug bomb would work.

Peg, such a nice kitty, let us know how it tastes. Sounds delicious. Wow, pool closing already? The only good thing about August ending is that our refi is to close on 9/2. Keep on doing your art in any method that pleases you.

Kathie, so sorry about Charlie, but glad he is feeling better and that you were able to help him. I always wonder about your art and how you do it. What is the upper bedroom for, if you have to do your art in the garage? Yes, pouring dye would be messy but I just never thought about how you really would do it.

Beryl, its awesome that you don't deprive yourself of what you love. I'm thinking that all of your exercise is allowing you to have your favorites and be fit and gorgeous, like you are.

The other day a friend sent me a video of a squirrel with a yoplait container on his head and it just happened in front of the fire department. As they always do, they saved him and got the container off. Well, I asked DH to bring his yoplait container home, and I put it outside, does that make me evil.

~hugs, Lori

Good Friday afternoon team! Today has whirled by!
To the market, then zumba, then work, then to barre (the same sub instructor filled in today--OH MY GOD!!), now finally home. Eating my cottage cheese and vegetables, cause that' what I wanted.
DD is having to do lots of paperwork and legwork for her trip since her name has changed since the last time she traveled abroad. She isn't happy about it. I am! lol
I do not avoid any food groups. That's way too restrictive to me. I do avoid processed foods as much as I can, and heaven knows I do NOT bring chips or cookies in the house! Those are my downfall. Everything else though, is fair game for me. Quantities are always an issue for me. I can eat more of even good stuff than anyone I know! We must all be descended from peasant stock!
Kathie, do what makes you happy. If the art class isn't, then don't do it. I know you paid for it, but if it's another stress--who needs it? Your art is so beautiful, make what makes you happy.
Peg, hopefully if/when the weather isn't so brutal you can take your sketchpad and pencils and just DO IT! Enjoy yourself outside and sketch.
Lori, did the shots help?
Hi DrSue! How are you?
Nicky, I enjoy mixing it up. I can't do just cardio, or lifting. I think I need to keep my body guessing. It easily gets used to things.
Back to putting groceries away. Have a good day ladies!

Good afternoon Team!
Warmer here today, but not brutal. Did some errands...banking for mom.
KATHIE, I understand about doing art. There are days/times when I think I should just do something, but then, I don't want to drag everything out and put it away again. I want to start sketching. Nothing elaborate, just to be doing something. It's just a book of paper and not a big investment of time. The result won't really matter. Figure I can handle dragging out a sketchbook and pencil. And no big sketches either, just small things, stuff around the house, the shed in my back yard, whatever. Just to keep me doing something. When I was out yesterday, I did a value study/sketch using an Inktense pencil. Then I used a water brush over it and it turned out kind of cool (and helped with the actual painting). I need to simplify things in order for me to do them. Hope you find a method that allows you to do more creating. So sorry to hear about Charlie's fall but glad he recovered quickly.

The no flour/no sugar/no sweeteners is still working for me. I don't obsess about what might be in other prepared foods unless sugar is in the top three ingred. And even then I might have it, like that delicious ice cream when I was away or some cheesecake for mom's b'day. I can't do wheat, barley or rye anyway, so that's not a problem. Once I have rice, I'm a goner. I could eat bowls of freshly made brown rice. So, better for me to just avoid it. I think I have a system down that works for me. Now, when the cold weather gets here, that may be something else entirely because you know where my moods/emotional state go then...they plummet into the abyss.
NICKY, I'm not lifting heavy as I've just started back, but I like lifting much more than running or cardio. I am not "light" on my feet or graceful. Lifting just seems a better fit for my peasant constitution. Nothing delicate about this girl!
For any of my coffee drinking friends, I've started doing my own cold brew and keep it in the refrig. for iced coffee. Amazing how much less bitter it is. Love Death Wish coffee and now a local distillery is making Death Wish Coffee vodka. Thinking that could be pretty wonderful. I'll soon find out as a neighbor's cat bought a bottle for me a s a thank you for taking care of him while they were in FL. Such a thoughtful kitty.

Hope all is well with BERYL, LORI and DR SUE. I can't believe we are over half way through August! Received the notice about pool closing the other day. A sure sign of the change of seasons.
Wishing a good day to all.

Good morning team. Very foggy again this morning. It burns off mid morning. The heat had dissipated to a more normal low 80s and I hope all of you will get some relief from it soon.

Oh Beryl, Cambodia sounds scary to me too but I know that was all years ago and people there are in much need of medical care. DD is an angel to travel to care for these people. Yes, I am like you. I need to eat what I like and make smart choices. I managed to do this for years. Then after Bill died it all went south. Grief, depression, fear all played into it. I was using food for comfort and also eating what was easy rather than cooking healthy food.

Lori, sorry the squirrels continue to be a nuisance. I don't miss the nasty red squirrels I had in Michigan. I don't have bird feeders here and probably won't except for hummingbird and oriole feeders next spring. My yard is tiny. Really tiny.

Peg, sorry your mom is having issues. I'm glad the facility is keeping you updated. Innisfree Gardens sounds lovely and peaceful. I miss art. I need to get back and do something, anything. Yesterday I unpacked 6 or 7 boxes of my dye and print supplies. I had purchased a lot of clear plastic storage boxes and was able to organize and store everything in the tiled utility room where I have a table for small painting projects. I won't do any fabric dyeing or screen printing until next summer. By then I will have a better setup in the garage as that sort of work should be done outdoors.

Nicky, I don't track carbs. I wouldn't do it even if I knew how to look up the info. I need to find a way to eat that is intuitive. I am trying to learn to listen to what my body needs. Yesterday it was clear it wanted salad for lunch. What was good about the excursion into the no sugar/wheat/refined carbs regime was that when brown rice, quinoa and barley were permitted within limits I found 1/2 cup to be an ample serving. Staying off sugar isn't particularly difficult if I don't obsess about small amounts that may be present in some things. Ditto I can really limit the wheat products at home but let myself order what I want instead of the Greek salad that's the only thing on the menu w/o wheat/sugar. Its no fun to go out when all you are "allowed" to order is something you don't like anyway.

The DNA sound like "my ancestry" that constantly advertised on TV. IMHO its another way to separate people from their hard earned money. You know you hate running and love lifting. Why pay someone to tell you. Just my 2 cents. Feel free to ignore me.

DrSue hope all is well as you count down to you next vacation at your camp.

Charlie fell again today and I had a hard time getting him up. He's skin & bones but still a big, big boy. Once he was up he was fine. He ate breakfast and I walked him around the perimeter of the development. He loves that. But now he's sprawled on the living room floor blocking the kitchen and the hallway to the bedroom. He always finds the one place I cannot get through without stepping over him. He looks worried. It must frighten him to lose control of his legs.

Good grief I have too much to say.

KATHIE, have you been tracking carbs and keeping them just under 100 gr/day, let's say?
Low-carb eating causes one to dump water first, and that's usually the initial "weight loss."
Carbs require water for metabolizing, so, like LORI and others said, doubtful you gained 3# of fat weight!
Good on ya that you're adjusting your plan to better suit your lifestyle.

Just learned of a couple companies today, as a matter of fact, that test your DNA for carb and fat sensitivity, and for genes that would be more conducive to either endurance or sprint exercise. It is right out of science fiction. Imagine knowing right away how to adjust your lifestyle to reflect optimum gene expression!
fitnessgenes.com and DNAfit.com (British) are two that I located so far. I might just indulge some day.

I mean, that's what we're attempting here, albeit hit or miss.
I know for sure that I don't do well on wheat. I LOVE to lift heavy things, but I HATE running. I wonder if some of my genes would confirm that?

I have silverfish!!!!! They are eating the edges of the wallpaper in my bedroom!!! The wallpaper is from the Smithsonian Victorian Collection, and I love it. Silverfish feast on starch; they eat clothing, too!! WHAT NEXT???!!!!
That does it. I'm getting an exterminator in here. If I have to tent the house, so be it. I've been resisting all these years, but the bugs seem to be winning.

When you arise in the morning,

give thanks for the morning light, for your life and strength.

Give thanks for your food and the joy of living.

If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies in yourself.

Hello Team!
KATHIE, so nice that you had a good visit with your "niece". And the picnic..sounds enjoyable. I hear you on the too sweet. Never thought there was such a thing, but now I know there is. Still doing the no sugar/no flour/no sweeteners for the most part. I'm with LORI in that you can't gain 3# of real weight in 2 days, unless you ate 10,500 more calories than you needed. Right? 3500 cal per pound?I'm guessing it's something else, holding on to fluid. I presume that you are drinking enough. I've found that I have an increase if I slack off the water.
Oh BERYL, safe traveling to DD. Wait...I thought you were going to go easier on the exercise! Still sounds like two classes in one day to me...lol
LORI, you may have to accept that the squirrels will win and devise a system that allows for peaceful coexistence emoticon (I was looking for a squirrel and could only find a groundhog,,,at least that's what I think it is)
Went out painting at Innisfree Gardens. Beautiful lake and paths. Not a formal flower garden, but more in a Japanese style. Small areas with interesting trees or small waterfalls or rock formations. It was a lovely day to sit in the shade and paint. When I got home I realized that I had forgotten to feed my neighbor's cat, so I ran right over and made it up to her. Had messages from the facility and they've up a med for mom because of behaviors. Supposed to go to a former co-worker's retirement, but it's more than half over and I'm just too tired to change and go. I had sent in my $ so at least I'm on the gift card. Time to think about what I want to eat.
Hi NICKY and DR SUE!
Wishing a good evening to all.

Hello Team,

Still hot here too. Squirrels are winning the battle.

Kathie, my Rheumatologist says that it is impossible to gain that much in so little time. It is probably sodium and bloating because of the heat. I'm glad that you enjoyed your niece and nephew's visit. Also, the mansion picnic. I'm still afraid to get on the scale, it's been months now.

Beryl, you're right, all summer off is so hard on the parents. Unless they're stay at home Moms or teachers, who gets all summer off to supervise and keep the kids from harm and mischief? Cambodia, another scary place on earth.

The fires are not close at all this time, but so sad for all in that fire's path.

~hugs to my team, Lori

Hi guys. Just took muscle pump and waiting for barre. Brought grapes and non fat cheese for snack. Couldn't face Zumba today.
Text from oldest DD at 7:20 saying she's going to Cambodia next month and can't come in for a friends shower on Sunday. Nothing since. Ugh!!!
Nicky so glad you could spend time with "your" niece and enjoy yourself. I couldn't ever stay on anything where I had to deny myself anything. Just me. If I choose to not eat things I want it to be my choice. And it's funny cause my friend and I were just discussing this yesterday at lunch. She's a pizza and chocolate chip cookie junkie. She allows herself 1-2 pieces a week and cookies too at night. Saves her points. Happy as can be. I don't have that discipline but it works for her and that's what matters.
Have another candidate happy hour tonite.
Rained last nite and still somewhat cloudy now. Still HOT!!

Hi team. Hope its starting to cool off for everyone. Those fires in CA just seem to be getting worse and worse.

The picnic was great. It was outside of course but we could see the mansion and its very Frank Lloyd Wright inspired. You can look all the way though and see the view on the other side. Last night I had dinner with my BFF's niece who lives in Charlotte. She's recently separated and she needed a break so she decided to bring her son (8 yrs old and darling) to Biltmore for a mini vacation before school starts next week. We had a nice visit. I've know her all her life. She's like a niece to me.

So for 2 days I gave myself a break from the no carbs and no sugar. I had a modest plate of food--mostly salad at the picnic. I took a taste of a couple of desserts but they were too sweet (who knew food could be too sweet?) And last night let myself eat the bun with my burger (side of fruit instead of fries). Stepped on the scale and I'm up 3# in 2 days. It took me 6 weeks to lose those 3# and I felt deprived the whole time. I was never hungry and lost the cravings most of the time but found almost all my dinners boring and unsatisfying. And trying to order lunch anywhere and adhere to the "rules" made it too much of a pain to even go out.

So I am rethinking this whole thing. I am quite satisfied with the power shake for breakfast. Its easy and it fills me up. Its better for me than cereal. I've never been able to face eggs in the morning. And I can pretty much deal with salad lunches in the summer, switching to soup in the winter. I can enjoy them w/o any bread/pasta/etc included. But once in a while I want a pasta rather than zoodles. And a sandwich if I go out. I miss BBQ.

So maybe its back to some version of WW but w/o the "reduced fat" and artificially sweetened aka highly processed food. My own plan. Fewer carbs and less sugar in things like BBQ sauce. And somehow get myself beck to the gym to get my metabolism boosted. Its been hard to fit that in with contractors and repairmen coming and going and/or not showing.

Much to do today. Must get started.

Hi ladies. Just posted and poofed my own post. UGH.
Hot and steamy today and more tomorrow.
We start next Tuesday, the kids start the following week. Some schools, especially in PA, start after Labor Day. I wish we had school years when we had a week off after each semester. No one needs the whole summer off. Kids don't harvest crops any more which is why summers were initially taken off.
Scary fires out west--you California ladies near or far from them? Be safe!
Hi Peg, DrSue, Nicky, Kathie, Lori, and anyone lurking.

Hello Team,

Yes, Peg, I looked it up too and only saw a mocking bird with that description. Yet this bird was thinner, we have Bewick Wrens, they are so cute, have a beautiful song, but are trouble makers, lol. So as my husband and I were discussing that it could be a Mocking Bird, he said that they can mock other birds songs. I looked at him in disbelief, really??? I never figured that out on my own, but it does make sense. Thanks for checking for me, Peg.

My DGS started school last Wednesday, and my other 3 start on the 22nd. My DD1 cannot wait.

Beryl, more paperwork, geesh that seems to always be on your plate. Has your DD stopped working yet and be a stay at home Momma?

It broke 100 easily yesterday but thank G-d, no humidity, like you, my friends, on the East Coast.

~sending hugs, Lori

Good morning Team! Lower humidity and temps...what a relief! Tomorrow back into the 90s.
Went to the gym, back home and had breakfast. heading out to do some weeding. They have thrived in this weather. I did mow Monday evening and it was brutal. I was running on empty by the time I finished, had not a bit of energy left.
LORI, is this your little guy? When you said upturned tail I thought of wrens, but this is a mockingbird pic. Good luck at the doctors.
BERYL, right...where did your summer go? My nephews in FL started school this week. Up here, it starts after Labor Day. Good idea to give your body a rest (as though one class instead of two is really a rest lol)
KATHIE, how was the outing? Sorry to hear that the online class has been a bust.
Hey NICKY and DR SUE.
Meeting an old friend for lunch. Because it's so beautiful today, we'll bring our lunches and meet in a park by the river. Looking forward to it.
Wishing all a great day!

Hello Team,

Another hot one here too. I sure do hate sweating. It is so messy and uncomfortable, too. I spent just a minimal amount of time out yesterday but I still was a mess. I have my Rheumatologist appointment today and I will get injections. My back flared up on Sunday really bad, it's better now, but will request injections tHere and my right hip.

Beryl, I'm glad you're choosing your body's needs. Too much is too much. You're back to work already, my where did your summer go?

Nicky, I'm glad that you are seeing your son. I know how much you stave him in your life. Sounds like fun for his birthday.

Peg, did you get to your lawn and garden? I'm so happy with mine, garden that is, they are doing well. We have a new bird, it's medium/small in size, has an upturned tail like a roadrunner, but the body of a oak titmouse or house finch. I think it may be a mockingbird.

Kathie I googled the Manson and it is beautiful. I hope that you have a wonderful time. I'm with Beryl on the A/C, it should be under some kind of warranty. Maybe the builders becaus it was installed by them, something to check into. Either way I'm glad that it is now working.

Hello Dr. Sue, hoping all is well.

~hugs, Lori

Happy Tuesday friends. Hot, sunny, and, did I mention it's HOT??? Still!
Kathie, hopefully the home warranty plan will cover things. I don't understand if it's new construction why it isn't under warranty? I"m glad your neighbors are nice folks. Enjoy tonight, and gawk for us too!
Nicky, staying in the pool sounds like a lovely idea. Enjoy your time with DS.
Up early enough to go to muscle pump then zumba. It was all I could do to keep up. I"m sore. I need a break I think. I think tomorrow will be one class only. I went to work afterwards and did a couple of hours of paperwork. That never ends!!
I have salmon for dinner. I will probably make some kind of marinade for it, and I have brown rice and stir fried bok choy.
Ready for regular TV again.
Have a good day ladies.

Nicky, glad the ant traps worked for you. I've had very good luck with them. Good for you for getting out early before the heat. I get a mile in each morning before coffee taking the dogs for their morning constitutional. Lovely sunrise this morning.

Beryl, hope you get a good night's sleep tonight. Insomnia is awful. I'm still craving your shrimp/noodle/peanut salad from a few days ago.

Peg, congrats on the sale of your art. That is so exciting. Please be careful working in the heat. You asked about the online class. I am skipping this month's assignment because I don't see any value for me in it. Its a style/technique and one I don't care for. I'm kind of sorry I signed up for this. I was too busy moving the months that explored topics I have interest in. I am more interested in design principles than in technique.

Ditto Lori and DrSue. Its hot everywhere but it seems to be hotter on the coasts.

The A/C repair guy came today & its cooling. I conducted phone interviews with a few recommended companies yesterday. The company recommended by my next door neighbor offered the best rates and best service plan. He confirmed my hunch that the so-called repair last month was just treating a symptom. Sure enough there were leaks in the line outside. Expensive repair. I will try to submit it based on the fact that it was pre-existing but I doubt if I can get it paid for. The unit is not under warranty. These units were built in 2007 and then foreclosed during construction and completed at a later date. The inside system dates to 2007 and the outside unit is maybe 2013. I bought a new home warranty plan but from what I hear from the neighbors it was a waste of money.

Someone asked if I met the my neighbors. Yes, I am meeting them and so far, so good. Everyone seems nice and most have a dog and/or cat or 2. We are all new. The first residents moved in April and new people keep moving in. There is only one unsold unit now.

Need to make an asian cucumber salad to go with the tandoori chicken drumettes I grilled last night for the quilt guild picnic tonight. Its at the Western NC governor's mansion which is on a mountain right near here. From the photos it looks very Frank Lloyd Wright-ish. The grounds are spectacular. I am going primarily to gawk.

PEG, KATHIE told us about TERRO ANT BAITS, and I immediately got some after I read reviews online. Apparently, they really work!
Of course, knock wood, I haven't seen an ant YET.

LORI, I get the morning overcast, and today it was actually foggy. It got real warm, though, by mid morning. Gunther and I did about 3 miles in an hour, and that was plenty. I was soaking wet.

Mostly stayed in the swimming pool over the weekend. Managed to stay OP by TRACKING EVERYTHING!!!
it's such a good feeling to be in control and OP. Why I let myself go astray is a huge mystery to me.

Meeting up with DS tomorrow to watch a matinee of "Pete's Dragon"! Afterward we'll go to sushi to celebrate his birthday.

I rarely actually go to the "beach" on the sand. It's way too hot. I mostly like to walk along the cliffs of Santa Monica called Palisades Park. That stretch of trees and grass is a scene in so many movies and TV shows.

PEG, maybe consider using electrolyte capsules when it's so hot and you are working out? I usually recommend Salt Sticks or Concentrace. Glucose or goos or whatever are so yesterday. ;)

DRSUE, I gather it was cooler in Boston, or was the place indoors?
Made your prosciutto-wrapped fish again. It's now my favorite way to make any white fish. We get tilapia on this coast, as well as red snapper or pacific cod.

Oh, and Peg, please remember to keep hydrating and EAT when you're working out like that!! Bring snacks.
And UGH to the ants. Those sticky bait things work, like Lori said. But UGH!!! You know how I love bugs and things that need to stay outside!

Hello Team,

Peg when I had stray ants, about a month or so ago, I put ant baits down. Then I had an army of them but since they carried the bait to their queen and then they were gone.

It's so hot out. 100 degrees, yikes, I'll have to water but anything else outside is unlikely.

Dr. Sue, I'm glad that you and friends had a good time yesterday. Sounds like so much fun.

Stay cool team, ~hugs, Lori

Good Monday afternoon team!
DrSue, Boston sounds wonderful! GET TO THE BEACH!! Even just to bring a book and look/listen to the water. I love that.
Peg, still no rain here. Must have been like floating in the bathtub! Glad you could get in.
Went to the memorial for my son in law's grandfather. Folks were upset. Really? At 96? In his sleep? It was time. He went out like he lived--like a true gentleman.
Got to the Y in time for muscle pump then zumba. Hitting Whole Foods tonight too.
DH is off today and taking down the shelves we no longer need in the 2 spare rooms.
Could not sleep last night. Saw 1230, finally got up at 2:30 and took a couple of xanax, then read till 3:30. Up by 8 this morning. I feel fine, but it's not good, I know.
Off to change and help pick the babies up.
Have a good day ladies!

Good morning Team!
More thunderstorms last evening so my plan to mow was thwarted by Mother Nature. The grass is too wet to cut early in the morning so I'll try again later. Hot again. I think Wed. is supposed to be a great weather day. Looking forward to that.
Went to the gym and couldn't finish my workout, felt light headed and nauseous. My trainer put some glucose powder in my water and amazing how quickly I felt better. We then switched to abs and stretching for the remainder of the time.
Yesterday I vacuumed and skimmed the pool and floated a while in the afternoon. Water temp is 86 so you know it's been hot. My water temp drops very quickly as soon as there's any drop in temp. Temps in low 90s today, but I don't know what the heat index is. Over the weekend, like at Dr SUE's, it was over 100 with heat advisories and "cooling stations" open.
DR SUE, sounds like a fun trip to Boston. The beach is one mile away? I know, life interferes and it seems like we don't take advantage of what is nearby. Only because of plein air painting have I gone to some of the beautiful historic local sites. People travel to see them and I am but a half hour away and never went. Hope this week isn't too tough.
BERYL, you made it to the gym and yet let a "little heat" chase you away from wine? (only kidding) Wine and heat don't mix well for me. Now...a nice gin and tonic...mmmm
LORI, how nice that you made it to the beach. I love the beach and hadn't been there for years until my 2 day trip this summer. Breathing in that air and hearing the ocean feels like home. (weird, I know)
KATHIE, hoping the AC is now fixed and your list continues to be whittled down. How are all the furries doing?
NICKY, how goes it?

Have to go battle some teeny tiny ants that found their way in. Problem is I can't figure out the source and they're in a room that I wouldn't expect. Oh well, off I go.
Wishing you a good day!

Peg

Yesterday was over 100 again. However, I did something different. Two friends/co-workers and I took the ferry into Boston wandered to the Boson public market. It opened last year. So we wandered about testing samples of all different foods. We rode the carousel on the Greenway! Then the Ferry back to Salem.

Kathie, I hope your AC issue is fixed, and you continue to check things off the list.

Lori, I rarely go to the beach, and I have No excuse, it is about a mile down the road. I hope the heat abates soon for us all.

Beryl, you are more disciplined than I. I could not keep myself on the bike in the heat yesterday.

Peg, I hope you had a good visit with Mom. I think it is supposed to cool off a bit today. We shall see. We had thunder showers go through Sat night.

Nicky, I hope all is well with you.

I am In For another long week. One vet is on vacation, so it is all me until Thursday. I'm tired already. Have good Monday everyone.

Hello Team,

Well we did do something yesterday, we went to the beach, a cool 73 and gorgeous. It was awesome. The only thing keeping us from going more often is the traffic and distance, but yesterday was so very worth it.

Egads, Beryl, no A/C and wine, plain ucky. It is so hot here. I went out to water both gardens and refill birdbaths and I was sweating right down my face. It feels like an oven, in the high 90's.

Peg, I hope your visit with Mom went well. Stay cool.

Tonight, we will have stuffed chicken breast, with either broccoli or asparagus, feta or cheddar, not sure which one, either case delicious, corn on the cob and roasted cauliflower.

~hugs, Lori

Good Sunday ladies. No storms here. Hot and humid still.
Did an hour bike ride, then zumba at the Y. UGH.
Went to a lovely local winery for their annual artisan tasting afternoon and the power in the area went out. Sweat and wine do not mix well. lol. Came home way sooner than expected.
DH arranged our room differently so hopefully the air circulates better. The bedroom is very very warm and makes sleeping impossible.
Made a lovely cold shrimp/noodle/vegetable salad with a peanut dressing made from powdered peanut butter with much lower fat. Not enough sracha for me, so I'll add mine later!
Hope everyone is doing well.
Have a good day ladies.

Storms roared through last night and the humidity seems slightly less. Getting ready to head out and see mom before I get involved in the days chores.

Hello dear team,

It's hot here too, in the high 90's, yuck. I should be thanking G-d every day that we have A/C. I'm very grateful for it. Kathie, D$$N, wth? This is so wrong. I'm so sorry. Is there some kind of warranty on it? I have a whole house insurance, it's up to $61/mo, but it covers my A/C too. We pay a $65 house call and they fix whatever needs repairing. I'm not saying that they are great and wonderful, they come with their own baggage, but having it gives us a peace of mind. I'm glad that you got your car in the garage, very good progress, my friend. Last night at Trader Joes, I bought a hydrangea, pink of course, but I have to repot and keep in our shaded porch, they are dangerous for our Livvy and Henry.

Peg, happy dancing for your painting selling, now you can buy a new window a/c. Just kidding but congrats. I love that you had such an awesome time last night. We have a friend who is gay. We love him and would love to have him as a son in law, but he, too, is needy. I think that the girls should all just plan things together.

Dr. Sue, love the dancing in the rain. I'm sorry it's so hot and miserable too. Less than 2 weeks now till camp. How is Fredo?

Beryl, I agree with the team, you are our energizer bunny and queen of great deals. My condolences to your sil, and I agree that is the best way to go.

Hey Nicky are you melting?

Not sure what we will do this weekend but at least we're together.

~hugs to my team, Lori

Happy hot hot HOT Saturday, Team! More warnings to stay inside and be careful when out. Bad storms here yesterday and five people were struck by lightening about 20 miles from here...scary
I'm so excited (BERYL already saw this on fb) My pastel "Lake Road" that is being exhibited at WAAM, sold! Found out by finding a check in today's mail.
BERYL, I'm sorry for the sadness DSIL and her family are feeling. But, I'm with you, Beryl, sign me up for going in my sleep. Definitely looking for low maintenance; I don't have much patience with needy people.
KATHIE, hope your AC is an easy fix.
Watching as the two newest "Baby Bombers" hit their first home runs during their first "at bats" in the major leagues. Two really happy young men...
Stay cool and well my teamies!

Hi all. So hot again. The sun is just unrelenting.
Down at WI, but I'm sure I'll be up next week, but happy right now.
My BFF is gay, and he's high maintenance!! I'd go for a low maintenance gay plus 1. lol
Peg, your evening sounds like so much fun! Did you set a date to go to NYC?
Kathie, keep cool! Is the a/c under warranty since you just bought the house?
DSILs grandfather died. He was 96. IN HIS SLEEP. I put my order in, for sure! And up till about 6 months ago he was driving and independent. Everyone's upset and I"m like, way to go!! Out like a gentleman. I hope it's a celebration of his life, and not a funeral on Monday.
Off to finish lunch and my SATURDAY NAP!! Best time of the week.
Have a good afternoon all

Peg, that's brilliant. My BFF has been looking for a gay "plus one" for years. Like Sex in the City.

Hot here too. My A/C stopped working last night. I refuse to pay for a weekend emergency call. So the windows are open, the blinds are down and the fans are on high.

I opened the garage door at 7 and ran a fan there to cool it down then went out and finished storing things the best I can. Still storing things that need to go but I got my car in finally.

Hi to all. Stay cool. Its too hot to stay on the computer.

Back from dinner and I did very well with my eating...another victory! Two glasses of wine, though...one with dinner and then one bought by the "house" because they were so busy they asked us if we could leave the table and move to the bar. Not a problem as we were totally done with our meal and were dawdling and talking. We were there over 4 hours. So good to see these ladies again. We talked about all of us going to NYC for a show or something and that would be fun. Two of us are still married, one widowed and me, divorced. Talked about the pitfalls of dating at this age (what dating?) or having a DH who doesn't want to do anything they want to do (and are grumpy). So...we decided that we will start a website, whose premise is "Women of a certain age looking for gay men to share social activities"...lol What do you think? Will we be successful?
DR SUE, it's raining here, too, but no relief from from the heat or humidity.
BERYL, funny enough, I gave away my window unit and a freestanding unit because I never used them. This summer is teaching me a lesson, I guess.
Wishing some coolness to all my team.

Ladies, I can barely function with the air conditioning. I cannot imagine not having it.
I did hear if you put a bottle of frozen water in front of the fan, it blows super cold air on you and feels like an a/c.
Please try it. Or buy a window unit!!
No hugs. too hot!

OMG team! Just as I posted I heard a noise. I went to investigate, and my yard looked wet. I went out and it was raining!! I stood on my lawn, my neighbor yelled over, "that's one way to get cool!"I took q out, he thought I was nuts but now doing wet Dobe dance in front of the fan. I guess prayers can be answered! Not enough rain to make a big difference, but a blessing all the same!

Oh team! It is 90 degrees inside my house! 91 on my shade porch, and my neighbor has a full sun thermometer and it was at 120 degrees! We have the possibilities of thunder storms. I can only pray. Beryl, no two weeks before I have a weekend off, when I go to camp. I have Sunday off. Next week I again have one vet on vacation, so it's all me until Thursday afternoon. New vet will be there all day Thursday. Quint keeps giving me the face. "Mom make it stop!" We actually did try the bedroom (no martini) a while back, but it was still too hot with the AC. I truly hate this weather. You can only get so naked. In the cold you can always add a layer. Now I'm seriously making the martini. Q and I in front of strong fan, and hope the outside temp drops enough to let the AC cool the bedroom to a sleep-able temp. Stay cool team.

Happy Friday Team!
Went to painting class today and ran into a terrible storm on the way home. Rain has slowed to a drizzle and the thunder is rumbling in the distance. You'd think this would cool everything down or at least lower the humidity, but no. A dangerous high heat advisory is in effect until this evening. And this type of weather is supposed to continue.
DR SUE...and what's wrong with a pitcher of ice cold martinis and an air conditioned room? Sounds like the perfect antidote to this weather. Hope you have a relaxing weekend. (the heat and humidity do nothing to alleviate exhaustion;I find myself falling asleep in my chair some afternoons)
LORI, glad the refi and new car processes are progressing. Enjoy "Cali Dude".
BERYL, I would have been disappointed in you if you had refused the massage offer. In addition to being the energizer bunny, you are also the Queen of Deals!
A big hi to NICKY and KATHIE!
Another day that I have to dress in front of the fan in order to get my clothes on over my now permanently slimy skin.
A good evening to all!

Peg

TGIF team. As my eldest daughter says, it's like walking on the sun. The temperature was 86 at 7:30 this morning. I'm over this.
Long morning at work, then to barre class where I had sweat running from everywhere in the a/c. It's hard work against the humidity and heat, plus she worked us really hard. Then the market, now home shoveling my vegetable soup in at 3:45. I'm starving! I did schedule a massage at 5. Hey--they called me with an offer I couldn't refuse!
DrSue, are you off this weekend? I do hope you get some more down time.
Peg, enjoy dinner again tonight! Your dinner last night sounded so much fun. Enjoy!
Nicky, we went to a Brazilian steakhouse last week for DHs birthday. I hated it. Wound up eating filet and salad. The other cuts were terribly fatty, which I won't eat, and all were underseasoned. Where's my AI???
Lori, any weekend plans?
Kathie, have you found one of those hanging yoga classes near you?
Have a good evening ladies!

Hello Team,

Last night we didn't get home until 9:00pm, after over two hours at the Toyota dealership, just reserving a car that isn't even there yet. The refi is on track, the auto and homeowner ins too. Not too sure about the earthquake insurance. It's a good idea to have it in California but the rates and deductibles are ridiculous. Yes, we want still want to move, we'll sort of. We really love our home. Yet if everything aligns and my husband gets the awesome transfer, then we will find another lovely home near our grandbabies.

Kathie, our fireplace was wood burning, and a focal point, but we love it. It was too dirty burning wood so we changed it to gas. It's not a push of the button, we have to physically turn on the gas then light it with a match. There is just something so calming about a fireplace to us. Thank you for sharing yesterday. I love seeing and hearing about what's up in your life and home.

Beryl, so I've mentioned that my brother is a walker, no? Anyways, up to 3 months ago he walked so he could eat whatever and how much he wanted to. Something changed and in the last 3 months he lost 20 pounds. I asked him if he changed his eating and he said he is back on WW. I asked which version and he said the newest. I was impressed. I hope hat your DS can talk your Mom into what would be best for her.

Peg, how wonderful to get out and see friends two days in a row. I love that you are bringing in so much joy especially after a difficult year. Our California Thrasher is visiting again today, I call him Cali dude. He us huge with a longer curved downward beak.

Nicky, I don't go out to eat often, but EVERYTIME, we do we see whole families on their separate devices. What the heck?

Dr. Sue, I love your idea of martinis and the bedroom. I'm sorry that you are sore from your workout. I hope that you are doing something gentle this evening.

You are right, 86 was hot, today is in the 90's, and it's Friday, so happy that DH is almost done with his hard, work week.

~wishing my team a wonderful weekend, Lori

~ Lori ~

I'm here because I want to be healthy.

Kathie, I too always think of coleus as shade lovers. I love the couch. I bet come winter, you will relish in hitting the on button of you fireplace. No heavy lifting. I'm sure your new home is going to be spectacular when it's done. Have you met you neighbors?

Beryl, I'm sorry your mom is as obstinate as my folks. I recommended they think about a life alert in the event my Dad falls (again). You would think I had tried to drag them off to a nursing home. They have a "system". Are you counting the days until you retire?

Peg, so glad you had a good time and good dinner with old friends. I hope Melinda continues to do well. Yes, it is rediculously hot here. Felt like 101 yesterday and possibly 105 today. Dew point of 76. It is not good when you see the air.

Nicky, those steak houses are crazy. I don't eat beef but every portion is out of control, and they try to up sell you. They do take good care of you though.

Lori, sorry the squirrels are giving you fits. Glad the home inspection went smoothly. We did a refi in the nick of time. Saved us good money.

I am no longer weary, I'm exhausted! I could barely wake up this morning, but the boys insisted. After 10 am, and I'm finally marginally functional. The heat doesn't help. I have worked out and been OP. Today I'm sore from the weight circuit at the gym. 2 more weeks before I get to my camp. emoticon I do like being busy more than slow, but it has been crazy. Yesterday for procedures I had every cage full, barely made rotary for lunch meeting and was booked for EVERY appointment slot from 2-5:30. Today is quiet which is a blessing, plus I'm done at noon. I'm tempted to go home make a batch of ice cold martinis and climb Into my air conditioned bedroom. Nope, I could never do it, but it's a thought. Have a great day.
