I like both day trips and weekend trips. I've been some great places, but only in Oregon, Washington and Victoria, BC. I would like to travel a little further abroad, but need to have more time for those. Wish I could retire now so I could do those things! emoticon

Bear same thing here in Oregon and Washington with the day trips. There are many great roads I have not explored yet.

I usually do day trips to different locations. The scenery and geography of Arizona is so varied that I don't think I'll run out of new locations anytime soon!

I guess I have been fortunate, for several years, in taking long trips. My wife has an office in home to watch over the animals and my 92 yr old mom. That is about to change this year sometime when her employer decided to have everyone come to an office. Unless we find an alternative for the dog, such as boarding, many of my trips will be shorter.

One of the guys we ride with a lot has a great deal going. His wife hates riding so won't go on trips with him. She works out of her home, loves being home, and loves having him gone so she doesn't have to cook. She stays home with the pets, he travels and calls her every night, emails photos to her. If I left my hubby at home while I was away, the house would look like a bomb hit it when I got home.

I can also relate to animals when trying to plan a get away,. We have 2 Australian Shepherds, 9 and 10 yrs old. And a kitty who is almost 14. I LOVE my animals dearly and the dogs also got very stressed when we used to take them to the kennel. Thankfully the past few years my daughter (who will be 20 tomorrow) would watch them if we went away. BUT she just moved out a few months ago. Luckily I can usually bribe her into staying here for a few days if we want to get away!

Our kitty is 18 Nell, which is something like 115 in human....lol.....I agree with you
totally....a housesitter would solve our problems, and my neighbor would gladly
come in and feed the furballs, let the dogs out, and so forth.....heck he'd probably
paint the house inside if I even hinted at it....he loves to be busy.........but David
is just aghast at the idea someone would be in the house, even someone he trusts.

Darlene, I've always said that if I had more money I'd hire a housesitter while we were away. I wouldn't have to worry about the cats and the house would be lived in, papers and mail in on time, lights on, obviously occupied. And the cats would have someone to fuss over them twice a day if not all day like they are most of the time. I know that cats are easy to care for, really only need someone to fill their food and water bowls and rake the litter boxes every day,but they are accustomed to being spoiled. I always feel guilty when I am away, which detracts a little from any fun I may be having.

We can't take too many long trips on the bikes because of Davids' health issues.
However, we also have pets and boarding them, because all 3 are elderly, has its'
difficulties. They get so upset, and have separation anxiety, so is quite a problem,
so we do restrict how many times we board them. The other problem is the price
of the boarding.

I like packing a bag and just going wherever the road leads us for a small road trip. (3-4 days) I'm not a very "structured" person so my plan is often to NOT have a plan! LOL

I love the long trips, planned to the last gas stop and programmed into a GPS. We used to go in groups of 4 or 5, the last few years just hubby and me. Alas his health can no longer handle those wonderful 3 week, 10,000 mile trips I love so much. Sigh.

Bikermom...now that you mention it I have never done the Grand Canyon, think I will plan a trip there. This year I do plan to couple the Run For The Wall with a ride from So. Cal. up Hwy 1 and 101 back to Oregon.
Thank for the reminder of Grand Canyon. Like you I did the Tail of the Dragon once and do not need to do it again. Fairly tame dragon compared to many of the rides here in Oregon. Like you I have no desire to ride to Alaska, even in the height of Summer. After going through the Winter in the Pacific Northwest I am looking for Sun and heat. (Sometimes I find to much heat in the Mojave Desert and the rest of the Southern States with 100+ degrees)

Like to do long rides and also like to do charity rides. Have been to the Grand Canyon twice on 2 different bikes. Been to the Tail of the Dragon, probably won't do that again. Like to do the Run for the Son ride to collect money for Bibles. Really like the long rides, but only have just so many days to ride because of vacation time. My husbands dream ride is to ride to Alaska, I personally don't want to do that, but would love to meet him out there and ride with him.

There are a few types of rides I enjoy:
I like long rides with a destination in mind. (As opposed to just going out for a ride) It could be a day-ride, an overnight or a 3 week road-trip.
I enjoy group rides, to a point, with a mission involved such as, Run For The Wall (Los Angeles to Wash. DC)
Some of the clubs I belong put on several Runs each year for various charities. Run For The Wall is the longest rides but only one time each year. From Portland OR, to Los Angeles to Washington DC and back to Portland is about 7500+ miles. Total riders, including 2 routes are about 1500 broken up into platoons of 30 to 60 riders.
Other clubs, such as Rose City MC puts on several events/year that I can ride with a small or large group, or on my own. Another group such as ABATE puts on a couple of Rallies and a couple of Runs.
I cannot do them all but I try to keep busy.
