I love them!!! I want one for each bike. I guess I'll stay with 40mpg... 50 would REALLY be stretching it!

Well, the one that averages 45 probably gets 50 some of the time, and the one that averages 65 probably gets 70 a noticeable chunk of the time, so it wouldn't be lying to get a 50 and a 70.

Wow Bunrab!!

That is so cool!! I want one! I don't know which one to get though. Our bikes average 45 mpg and 65 mpg and they don't have one that says either one of those. Hmmm.

I get asked often about the mpg. I average 49, much better than my truck at 12-15. Little do they know that I ride because I like it, I'll let them think I am an environmntalist. If gas keeps going up, and it will, we will all be riding bicycles everywhere.

Everyone asks me about gas mileage also. I get about 45 - 48 mpg on my Deluxe. I used to get 50-54mpg on my Shadow 750 so this is a little less, but I still get better than the bigger guys on their Harleys. It sure beats 18mpg on the Ford Diesel. It helps with my diet also because when I go to the store afterwork, there is only so much I can haul so I don't buy all the little goodies and stick to the main course stuff.

Yipes, I read about your accident on the other thread and forgot to say, I'm sorry. I'm glad you were well protected too and hope your injuries heal quickly.

My Kawasaki ER6f (Ninja 650 in the US) does 60mpg...
or at least it did until Friday. I was forced to break hard on a greasy road - the bike went one way & I went to other. I am so thankful that I'm not one of those STUPID people who ride in less than full leathers (with armour) otherwise I would of been far more injured than a sprained wrist and bruises (all over)

I get asked about my gas mileage too. I'm pulling between 45 and 51mph. I ride in a lot of rush hour traffic everyday so it varies but it's still a lot better then most cars.

Hi Folks,

Sorry to hear about the 19 year old who died, but it does happen. I live in the shadow of Daytona, and every year during bike week, the local media always keeps a tally of deaths. They lead off with, "3 people have died at bike week so far..." They seem to think it is more important to report this than any good that is being done. Some years they only have 1 or 2. Other years they can have as many as 12! In most of these accidents, alcohol is involved.

CT, I'm sorry to hear about that sad story. Unfortunately, it happens far too often. I think its a really personal decision, best made as a family, whether a person, young or old, is ready to ride. I have seen in my last three classes, parents and kids taking the safety course together. The kids have all come across as responsible, looking to be safe riders. That encourages me.

Oops, to address the topic at hand.... EVERYWHERE I go, people ask me about my mileage. I'm getting 40 - 43 mpg from my Trophy and, last tank, 44.5 mpg from the Harley! Woo hoo!!! I've also gone from using 93 octane to 91 to save 15 cents a gallon.

My 18 year old has been bugging me for almost a year now for a motorcycle. Now I ride a Harley and my X rode a Harley, how do I tell him he's not ready to ride? He wanted a racing bike and wouldn't let up on hit until........two weeks ago, a friend from his school at the very young age of 19 was killed b/c a woman pulled out in front of him. He had his helmet on but he hit the windshield so hard, he snapped his neck. I have been praying for the family. I simply can't imagine that. However, my son has now changed his mind and does not want a motorcycle anymore. At his young age, I'm glad. I've been around bikes for over 20 years before I actually took the safety rider course and got my own.
Blessings,
Lydia

There do seem to be more motorcycles on the road these days!
My son's first car was a motorcycle. That's how I got into riding... I took the Motorcycle Safety Course with him just to make sure he was a responsible rider!

My 17 year old daughter just this weekend asked me about getting her motorcycle license - for the fuel efficiency. If she's serious enough to study for her permit and sign up for a Motorcycle Safety Foundation class - I support her! BTW, my Kawasaki Vulcan-500 gets 55 mpg!

Yep, I've experienced the very same thing! I just upgraded my Sportster to a Softail Deluxe and everyone is asking that same question. I also know that many people are considering trikes now too!
Ride safe,

We have two motorcycles - a big one 1300cc (in my photo album) and a little Suzuki 450. I tend to drive the small one most of the time. I use it every time I go to the bank, the drug store, Wal Mart, etc. I ride it because it is fun and because it gets 65 mpg.

3 times in the last week, people have come up to me and asked "What kind of mileage does that thing get?" People are looking at me in a different light now. I was a biker. Now I am an eco-friendly, green-conscious citizen trying to conserve. I don't know if I can take the new-found respectability.

Funny what 4 dollar gas will do to people.
