Hi, Sharon! Well, it's been an odd week. I reset my goal, trying to get to Onederland by Memorial Day. Wasn't remembering that Spark automatically changes the calorie level to meet the goal - dropped from 2300 max calories a day to 1850! Well, if I want to do it, I have to do it, right? I'm finding myself saying "Yay, I feel hungry - it's worth it if the scale drops!" lol
I come to Spark and track my calories for the day before I eat dinner, so I know how many I have left. Forgot to weigh in this morning, so I'll wait until tomorrow to see if it's doing any good.

As far as the notice for losing, I guess I'm with Heidi - I will "lift the ban" when I'm back where my tracker says I am! lol

I actually like the warm fuzzies from all my Spark buddies when I actually do lose, so I'm keeping mine as is, but just not updating my ticker when I go up -- then it won't give me false kudos when I re-lose, know what I mean? Anyway, I did lose a couple of pounds this week -- only a couple more to go until my ticker is correct again and then as long as I don't gain any back I won't have this problem. There's an incentive!

Heidi, nice to see you checking in. I know you are far too busy to make it a habit, but it's nice to see you anyway. emoticon

Laurie, how's the program going for you?? How was your week?

Hello Laurie and Sharon!

I'm really NOT jumping back into activity here. I just wanted to thank whoever sent the sparkgoodie of shoes!

However, I did notice something that I might be able to help with. I was reading down this thread a bit and I have a tip for you both. I used to get so frustrated when I'd get those congratulatory messages from people about losing a pound - especially when it was losing one of three I'd gained! I have an easy solution that will allow you to track your weight and not get those notes.

First step is to go to your friend feed:

www.sparkpeople.com/friend_feed_home
.a
sp

I don't know if the link will work, but basically, when you're on a resource page or an article, on the right hand side is your friend feed. Scroll down to 'See All Updates' and click.

Then, across from the 'My Friend Feed' title, go to 'settings.'
There are Entries that you Share, and Entries that you see from friends. The very first entry that you share is 'Weight Lost (when you weigh-in)'. There will be a little box to the right that has a check mark in it. Simply un-check the box.

Now, when you weigh in, it will appear on your ticker, but it won't appear in the friend feed section of your friends' pages, which is why they congratulate you on your loss. That way, you can actually keep track of your weight without having to explain that your 1-lb loss was actually a gain from the 3 you'd just put on - or whatever.

I'm tracking too. I started a little over a month ago. I wish you both the best in your goals!

Cheers,
Heidi

I have found, through two periods of absence just since I came back to Spark, that I have no clue how much I am eating when I don't track. I MUST be faithful in my tracking - nobody else cares, and I am only cheating myself when I don't follow through. So, back to basics (AGAIN!!! lol) and tracking faithfully every bite. Still need to improve my fruits and vegetables intake also.

Hi, Sharon! Good to see you and no worries - I haven't been back since Memorial Day either, and you certainly have been busy! I have too, with the two part-time jobs and DH's health issues it has been a rough year.

I know exactly what you mean about getting congrats for losing a pound the second time around! I often don't update my ticker when it goes in the wrong direction either! In fact, I am also up two pounds from what my ticker shows, so we're right there together.

Now, what are we going to do about it?

Our annual Home Depot Health Challenge started yesterday and I am determined to win another gold medal this year! so I'm going to track religiously, walk on my breaks, and lose some of this darn weight!

How about you?

Hi Laurie,

How've you been? I'm sorry I haven't been a very good teammate....you know how it goes sometimes! I haven't had time to do what I NEED to do, so my fun-time on the computer has kind of taken the hit. I feel a little less stressed now, so hope to get back in the swing of things.

What's new with you personally and Spark-wise? I am actually 3 pounds up from my ticker weight but hopefully the scale will start moving the right direction again soon. I didn't update my ticker because I don't want kudos from well-meaning Sparkers for pounds that I've already taken credit for...know what I mean?

Daycare is going well. I'm up to 7 kids, but two of them are school-age, so I may or may not have them once summer vacation is over. Their parents are going through a nasty divorce and Dad wants to change schools to be in my neighborhood (also their neighborhood) and if so they will stay here, but Mom wants to leave them in their current school, which is not in my neighborhood, so their bus would not stop here and they would have to make other arrangements. The kids love it here though, and I think they need me right now, so I hope it works out for the best. They act out a lot, but I overlook it as much as possible, knowing all that's going on in their family life, which includes restraining orders, name calling, etc. Very sad situation. Anyway, the 5 preschoolers I have are great, and I'm only looking to fill one more opening, as I'm holding a spot for a new brother or sister of a current 2-year-old...yet to be born, but expected in daycare around the first of the year. That would leave one opening, which I intend to keep open for unexpected events such as another pregnancy in the group, etc. So....my days are busy, but I'm content. If you're ever interested in what we do here, check out my daycare facebook page: Sharon's Lakeville Tykes. (This link didn't work when I posted it on another Spark group, but hopefully it will here! )

I have my first day off since our anniversary on May 5th! Man, do I need it! lol

Hubby and I are going out to our nature center to walk a trail this afternoon. We're taking a simple picnic lunch with us and heading for our favorite bench overlooking the river.

What do you have planned for this Memorial Day?

emoticon on the two pounds down! I hope you can keep them gone! lol And your Mother's Day sounds great! I did hear from my son - we chatted on the phone for almost an hour!
I used to weigh every day too, Sharon. This time around I have been good about only weighing once a week, on Sundays. I certainly wouldn't weigh myself today - the past two days have been horrendous calorie-wise and not really great fitness-wise. Glad I can give myself three days to try to eat better before next Sunday! I woke up with a craving (if you can call it that!) for cottage cheese! I think that will be lunch today, with maybe an apple or a peach to go with.

For my ten EXTRA minutes today, I am going to walk while I wait for my client to get out of their appointment. It's been such a hard winter, it got to be a habit to just sit in the van and read my nook. NOT TODAY! Sun's out, temp is gorgeous - I'm going to walk!

Awesome! I was actually down TWO pounds on Saturday's weigh-in, but that was before Sunday's eating extravaganza! My kids came over to cook -- my daughter and bf for brunch, clean up and go visit my mom for a couple of hours, then back home where my son and wife came over to make dinner. All was decadent...involving heavy food, alcohol, and sweetsl I normally weigh every day, but couldn't bring myself to do it today, lol.

Have a Terrific Tuesday tomorrow!

How time flies when we're having fun, eh, Sharon? I know - this past week I didn't even get to track my food or exercises for most of the week! Started again yesterday - pick it up and move forward yet again!

On the bright side - down another pound this week! Yay!

OMG... has it really been 10 days? I'm sorry to have been MIA. Time is literally flying! I hope to have time to check in more often this week -- only 4 kids all week, so the pressure will be off. Hope you had a wonderful Mother's Day! Let's have a great week!

Wow, Sharon! You sure must love kids! I'd be tearing my hair out with half that many! You certainly deserve a pass!

Is your mom in the nursing home permanently or just for a rehab? How long does "a visit" consist of, in her opinion? I know when mine was in for rehab post-heart attack she wanted me there at least an hour a day after work. She didn't understand how tired I was, and how that extra step of going to see her there was so different from going home when she was there. I will keep both of you in my prayers!

Money problems, yeah, no news there. We're in the process of trying to trade down from our 2012 Chevy Cruze, with its $370 month loan payment, into something from the dealer's used sales lot that will drop our payments at least a $100. Nothing yet, but they're supposed to be looking for something for us.

No excuses today? Okay. We are replacing our bathroom vanity, sink, and faucet today, so that should be plenty of bending, stretching, lifting and swearing! lol Then I have to work at the Depot tonight - walking and more lifting. This 10 EXTRA a day seems harder when I do so much physical stuff all day!

I hope your weekends are calmer!

I'm absolutely exhausted too -- new baby in daycare this week (4 months) in addition to a 10-month-old, 2 boys who both just turned 2 in April, a 3-year-old and a -year-old. All boys except for the 10mo. 4 in diapers. The girl EXTREMELY jealous of the new baby. The baby one of the worst urrrpers I've ever seen -- 2-3 clothing changes daily for him and me both. My relicensing due this month, waiting for an unannounced visit from the licensor. My taxes still not filed. My mom in a nursing home expecting me to visit every single day. Money problems. (What's new there??) My days aren't as physically demanding as yours, but the stress just might kill me! I give us both a pass tonight. No excuses tomorrow!!

I'm bushed from an absolutely crazy day at my second job, so my extra is going to be 10 minutes of computer crunches while I wait for hubby to finish the dishes! I know, sounds lazy to me too, but I was up and down and in and out of my ambulette at least fifteen times today, so I got lots of workout done at work. Not to mention sweeping and mopping it out and washing the outside! Any idea how many calories it burns to wash a large van with a hose and a long-handled scrub brush?

Hmmm....I've been counting steps with my fitbit, aiming for 10,000 but rarely getting it lately. I'll do an extra 10 minutes on the Wii tonight. It'll add 1,000 to my step count and satisfy this challenge. How 'bout you?

Hi Laurie, Good to see you Sparking again!

I'm here in spirit, if not in body...I've been SO busy lately and have also gained about 5 pounds, but more importantly I've neglected working out and feel weaker, and have not been watching my carbs, so my blood sugar is climbing. I REALLY need to get back on track, and maybe this will be the kickstart I need!

Will this be our main chat thread? I really intend to check in often, although I've got so much on my plate right now that I may be occasionally MIA!

Anybody else here??

Well, here I am back at Spark - and back up to 223 (down two pounds in two weeks! I'm super pleased about that!) and not feeling well, having trouble with breathing while working - got to get rid of some of the excess baggage!

Two years older, it doesn't get any easier.

I'm still part-time at The Home Depot, and have had to add a second part-time job to make ends at least get closer together. So for the last year I have been a driver for a local medical transport service. I drive an "ambulette" which is just a fancy word for a wheel-chair taxi. I take handicapped people to doctor's appointments and so forth two days a week. This gets to be fun, trying to translate that kind of activity into my fitness tracker!

I'm hoping we can begin again here at 10 Extra Minutes and hold each other accountable and prop each other up when we need it. Please feel VERY free to make suggestions for the team! See you all later!

Hi, Sharon! And hello again, Vicki! Many thanks to you for stepping in to make us rejoin the fight!

I'm Laurie, 53, sales specialist at our local Home Depot. My second husband and I have been married 5 years now, and I'm hoping for many, many more.

I have a Spark Buddy in Maine. We have met a couple of times now. We are like Forrest Gump's "peas and carrots" the way we get along. My husband and hers are train enthusiasts, so when we get together there is lots of talking.

My husband is going through some medical issues right now, so I understand your not wanting to get too far away, Vicki.

Happy Mothers' Day to all!

Nice to hear from you. You should be really proud of your children. It shows you've raised them to be strong independant people.
I've only met one spark buddy so far and it was a very short visit as I had to get back home to help my husband with something he was doing. He's not in the best of health so I don't get too far away from him.
I hope your day will be lovely tomorrow.

Hi there....

I'll be honest....I haven't been active on this team since Heidi went on hiatus. She's been my Spark Buddy for a long time, and my primary reason for joining the team was to keep in contact with her. But I will try to pop in now and again to see what everybody is up to.

Here's me in a nutshell: I am recently unemployed - layed off along with all my co-workers when our company was bought out by a competitor based in another state who decided to close our office. I'm on severance right now as I search for a new job, and I'm also taking classes in Microsoft Office to brush up on my skills to make a 50-something female look more attractive to potential employers! My daughter is 26 and recently purchased her own home about 15 minutes from here. She used to work with me too, but she has already found new employment and is getting adjusted. My son is 23 and recently married to his college sweetheart. He is a Lance Corporal in the United States Marine Corps, serving in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii as an Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting Specialist. We are going to visit him in two weeks while I can still take advantage of my flight benefits until my severance runs out. (My former employer was an airlilne.) I've been married for 27+ years and we live in Minnesota. I love baseball, and per my Username, I am the worlds biggest Twins fan.

OK, so there's the background....as for what's happening....Today I met up with a Spark Buddy I hadn't met in person before. We went to the Mall of America (she was in town, and I live about 20 minutes away from the Mall) to see the Diana exhibit and have lunch. This is the second Spark friend I have met, and it's so much fun! Other than that, I'm waiting to see what surprises are in store for Mother's Day tomorrow!

Hope you are all having a wonderful weekend....I'll try to check in more often.

Sharon

Let's talk to each other about what's happening in our lives.
My son surprised me today by sending me a lovely necklace with a silver heart with our birthstones on it. And he included my hubby in it ( his stepfather) so it shows me how he thinks of Bob as real family. My son doesn't normally send gifts. He always calls so recieving this gift made it extra special for me.
