I'm doing the best to move as much as I can. I'm seriously considering leaving my car at a friends house, 7 miles out of town, that will force me to walk more. I do try to walk a mile a day to start. I also ride a recumbent bike in physical therapy twice a week.

Life's an Adventure, hold on and enjoy the ride.

Movement is a part of my work day, too. As a Life Skills teacher, my students love to dance, and we dance every day. Plus, I am sticking with the workout calendar for my Beachbody program.

Ha ha... I started doing that 'building' exercising when I used to work for UAF out here in Kotzebue.

I guess all those wellness emails really do impact us.

I do something similar. I work for UA in Fairbanks. Our "highs" lately have been 10 below (we don't want to talk about the lows :-P ). We are allowed a 15-minute break in the morning and the afternoon so I walk the hall in the basement of our building and do wall push-ups. I have a "reminder" that pops up from my calendar entitled "move it move it move it" to get me going!

In case this helps anyone out there... At a minimum level of commitment, I would try to show up to work early and walk 'laps' around the halls of work before co-workers got in. During times when we had actual health activities going on for employee wellness, I would even sometimes do these laps during the day when other folks were there.

Hi everyone. I like to take our dogs to Hatcher Pass or the river bed and let them run for a few hours while taking pictures to share with my family that is back east.

When it gets too cool (which varies for even Alaskans with asthma) we wear ear warmers over our mouths. I wish I could find the picture of my daughter to illustrate. She has a beautiful hat that she loves to wear, but we got a matching headband that she wears over her mouth when it's cold. I also have asthma, so I always wear the nose warmer/headband when I'm out skiing. My husband actually made the investment last year to buy several extra fleece headbands from a local vendor, but I can't find the website link.

I also really recommend ice trekkers or something that hooks on your shoes to help you stay stable as it gets icy. My sister-in-law wears her snowshoes when she's out walking in the winter, but I haven't tried that yet.

There's a couple ideas.

Those sound like great plans! I wish I had a Wii setup! Those are a blast! I am trying to get together a few ladies in my area that would like to come over and do the videos with me or convince my roomate! Any good tips for walking outside as the weather dips? Is there a risk to your lungs when it is too cold? With my asthma I have to be careful! Thanks for the welcome AKMom!

My kids are in swimming and will be starting Jr. Nordic this year (first time for both of them.) They'll be out skiing, and I've made the commitment to have a ski lesson too. I'm hoping the person I work with has worked with others or heard of my issues so they can help me feel more confident in my skiing ability. I'd like to keep up with my kiddos.

We also have a gym membership where they hold arthritis classes. Though I've had the intention of participating, I haven't been *going*. That's about to change.

I've also been taking an active part in the Wii Challenges here at SparkPeople. The exercises are something my 7 year old and I can do at the same time. I've also joined the 10 minute exercise challenge to help myself find some consistency each day.

Thanks for the chance to write down the plans and welcome to team leadership. :)

So, as winter steadily approaches, I am getting together a keeping movin plan to stay active through the colder months. Luckily I found a class that runs 4 days per week that is high intensity aerobics/step/strength training/yoga in intervals. On my off days I plan to do a video at home, either Zumba or Hip Hop Abs. Also I am vowing to myself to walk my dogs every day even if it is only to the end of the driveway at 50 below!!! What are your goals and steps you will take in the winter?
