I grow flats of sunflower shoots in my place. I have an urban space with not a balcony nor a fire-escape. I hope to try growing other edible greens in earth this summer. I'd also like to try this self-watering DIY rig for growing herbs: tutorialtub.com/info/self-watering-r

I was delighted to see last summer the Thai restaurant next door growing tomatoes and basil in a little strip of earth between the edge of the asphalt and the cyclone fence separating our two properties. Here is an inspiring vid of an extraordinary guerrilla gardener using 'insignificant' strips of land: www.ted.com/talks/ron_finley_a_gueri

Kelly, were you growing vegetable or just herbs? If veg, did you find a big enough container for them all, or did you have a separate container/pot for each type of veg? What did you attempt to grow? Thanks!

Some people think the “plant-based whole foods diet” is extreme. Half a million a year will have their chests opened up and a vein taken from their leg and sewn onto their coronary artery. Some people would call that extreme.

Last year we did container gardens on our patio and driveway. The hot surfaces really dry out the dirt so it's super important to water every night during the hottest months. We didn't get a ton of yield either but going to try it again this year.

Here's some info and a series of videos (all on the same page) on container gardening from Phil Nauta of Smilinggardener.com. I'm sure you can relate much of this to table-top gardening. I have a small garden in the back -- some in the ground and some in pots. But opposite of you, I don't have much table-top space out there. Enjoy this wonderful adventure!

I don't have a patch of lawn in which I can grow a garden. I do, however, have a patio that gets lots of sun. The dogs use the patio, so my "garden" would have to be elevated. I figured surely there's such a thing as table-top gardening! I'm about to start researching, so if anyone has any helpful hints &/or sites, I'd appreciate your input! And maybe some would want to join me in the table-top gardening adventure...
