I will be posting a topic today about what we drink, and it will touch on artificial sweeteners, in case any of you are interested. It's called "So What Are You Drinking These Days".

Yep! I agree with you ~ whole, real foods as much as possible. I don't drink milk - but for those that do - that idea of adding Aspartame, either secretly or not - is just wrong!
I did watch Dr. Gregor's short video on Erythritol - will read more when I have more time.
Thanks for the info.

Dr. Gregor has videos on erythritol, too, if you're interested. I like it. It's not as sweet as regular sugar, but very nice and studies on it have been positive.

I don't think food producers should "secretly" add anything to our food products. If it's in the product it should be on the label. Sooo for me, when possible, I stick to whole foods (yep, I know erythritol isn't a whole food.)

I am not totally sold on erythritol though -
I will have to learn more about it.
Thanks, again!

Recently, stevia was found to have mutagenic effects when people use more than 5 servings per day. The only sweetener found with no ill effects to humans is erythritol, which as stated below is palm sugar from the coconut palm. The link below is to Dr. Michael Gregor's nutritionfacts.org latest video about stevia.

All of us who are concerned about Aspartame being put into the milk products - need to write to our elected representatives and beg them to shoot this down. I have already done just that.
And, I read some comments about sweeteners on this site ~ why not just use Stevia? It is the only one that I know of at this point that is safe so far. In fact, you can grow your own.

Hi Terry,
According to a package of Erythritol I bought today, it's pure palm sugar from the coconut palm. Everything has chemical names, but it's nice to know where it really comes from.

Oh, that reminds me, Shiva: I went to our tiny little health food store in town other day and bought me some of that sweetener you mentioned...only to get home and realize it was not the right one! This one was called Xylitol (sp?). I took it back to the store, but she said they didn't have any Erythritol (sp?), but she let me exchange it for other foods.

I can't believe I've not ordered any yet anyway...so that's what I'll have to do soon. I have found out that the sweetener Truvia is "mostly" made of Erythritol, though, with a sprinkling of Stevia added. But I'd rather have it just by itself--in pure form. So I should be ordering me some soon.

Yes, you're right, Shiva--they did give me a tracking number and I neglected to write it down (or think any more about it)...so you are bound to be right about that being the way to find my posts. I should have written that down! Don't know why it didn't register with me at the time to do that.

So your sister also has that issue with aspartame, huh? That really reinforces my belief that the stuff is poisonous! Can you just imagine some poor little kid going to the school nurse everyday because he or she is having "tummy aches" after eating and nobody knowing what's causing it (because aspartame is not listed in the food ingredients of their foods)? That part makes me angry, because they pay for our stupidity! (I've had family members to have allergies as kids before, only to later learn what was causing it.)

Did they send you a tracking number when you commented? I got one. It could be they are getting so many comments they aren't listing all the names (hmmm? I wonder).

By the way, my eldest sister also gets severe cramping from aspartame. Think of all the people we love that are affected by this. All the little kids. ... and if they can sneak aspartame into dairy without listing it, it's sure to end up in other food items soon, as well.

Hmmm....I left a comment on their website yesterday, but for some reason it's not appearing in the list of folks who commented. I left another one today...we'll see if it appears later.

The U.S. milk industry is seeking FDA approval to secretly add aspartame and other sweeteners to milk (Secretly!!!) The FDA is accepting comments until 08 May. Aspartame is a known carcinogen. Even though, as vegans, we are not drinking milk, adding aspartame is one more way the food industry wants to hide activities which will ultimately downgrade people's health. All for their own profit. The link below should take you to the site where you can read about this, and if you scroll down to about the middle of that there is a link which will take you to the FDA site to respond (my attempt to make a direct link to the FDA failed.) Also listed here is the document number this pertains to. This is so important. Please take time to respond to the FDA about this activity. If they are flooded with responses they might pick up their dull heads to listen. ***Thank you to Rosalieesther for bringing this situation to light.
