Good tips! I use the smaller dishes trick and find it very helpful for keeping the right portions. But I had never used the "taller glasses" trick till recently. I bought a tall, thin drinking cup that was on sale (one of those insulated drinking cups) and thought for sure it would equal two 8 ounce cups of a drink--but I measured it and it's just one 8 ounce cup! So I use that cup a lot now to make me "feel" like I'm getting a large drink. Comes in handy for higher calorie drinks.
