Ruth, the leaders group is asking me to ask you what the ad is for (in other words, is it the same product everytime or different products in the ad?)

I don't have much yet, and I don't know if this will help or not, but one lady in the group said she had found that she can click on the first link under the "community" tab and then you get out of that area. But then I don't guess that really solves anything...it just gets you out of the way of the ad. What you are needing is for the ad to be removed.

Maybe somebody will post soon about how to actually remove the ad (if that's possible).

I'll bring this up to the leaders group Ruth and see what happens. I think often nothing really does happen, because they get so many request for this and that...but it's worth a try!

It's the one in the middle of the Bonus Wheel. Half the time I can't update my status with the spin amount because whatever the ad is moves down and covers the link. And sometimes the big one across the top of the page decides to cover the posts while I am trying to read them. It is very annoying. The one you mentioned doesn't really bother me too much. Must be because I raised kids and grand-kids. Moms tend to get good at "tuning out" annoying things. emoticon

Sorry for my late reply, Ruth--I was away from home most of the day today.

I'm having more trouble with ads lately, too. There's this one that kinda "fades in" and covers the page, but it can be closed. (Does that sound like the ones that are giving you trouble?)

I'm having mostly issues lately with "moving" ads. By that I mean they are all like little cartoons with people or things or words moving in them--very distracting! I'd love to have all that movement stopped somehow, but don't really know how.

Let me know exactly what "kind" of ad you are experincing a headache with and I'll ask the group for group leaders if they have any solutions to the problem.

Yea. I thought it was cute too.

Off subject question. How do I keep the ads from popping up on what I am trying to read?? It is REALLY getting annoying!!

Yea Terry. The only time I can do tofu is at a Mongolian Grill restaurant with lots of veggies, garlic water, sesame oil and Sriracha. I take my own vegan soy sauce from home when we go there. The best one locally is... Ready for this??? "Wok on Fire". Weird name but great selection of veggies and rice noodles. emoticon

Oh, I was forgetting you also did not like tofu, Ruth! Me neither...which is one reason I think I've not tried it. I keep searching for a replacement for tofu in recipes. You would think there should be at least "one" somewhere out there?

Thanks for the suggestions. The recipes look good Terry thanks. I'm not a fan of tofu but it is worth a try.

We have a great Chinese restaurant here in town that has a large Zen menu that is all vegan. They offer shrimp, scallops, chicken etc. all vegan dishes. Their little fake shrimps look and taste shrimp-like. Which is great for me because I like the taste of shrimp but don't like killing them. I cannot find the product that they use anywhere but if I could I would surely buy them.

"I've made passable vegan scallops by marinating king oyster mushroom in a kelp-spiked dressing, though."

I had never thought of doing that, but it makes total sence, because mushrooms really are sorta the same consistency as scallops are! That's pretty cool, Rheyne!

I'm glad you made this a stand alone topic, Ruth, cause I'm also interested in "fishing for vegan fish"! Ha! I don't like fish in general, but I sometimes get a strong craving for it out of the blue. I also used to love a seafood salad that had imitation crab meat in it.

Here's a recipe I have for Vegan Crab Cakes. I found it while I was searching for a vegan replacement for crab meat, because I wanted to make the salad again. I've yet to try it, though, so I can't tell you anything about it. I was searching for this recipe for both the dressing and the crab for the salad. Here they both are:

VEGAN CRAB CAKES

3 Slices of Bread (or use ready made bread crumbs)
1 Tbsp Vegan Butter
1/2 Cup Firm Tofu
1/4 Cup Grated Carrot
1/4 Cup Grated Celery
1 2ounce Jar of Pimentos (drained from liquid)
2 Tsp Capers (minced)
3/4 Cup Cooked White Rice
2 Tbsp Corn Starch
1 - 1/4 Tsp Old Bay Seasoning
1/2 Tsp Onion Powder
1/4 Tsp Garlic Powder
1 - 1/2 Tsp Sugar
1/2 Tbsp Canola Oil
1 Tsp malt vinegar

Non-Stick Spray Oil

Preheat oven to 350°

In food processor place 3 slices of bread with vegan butter and pulse until you get a crumb mixture. Add 1/2 cup of this bread crumb mixture to mixing bowl and set aside the rest. Drain and press tofu; grate into mixing bowl. Squeeze excess moisture from grated carrots and celery and add to mixing bowl. Add pimentos, capers, rice, starch, old bay seasoning, onion powder, garlic powder, sugar, salt, canola oil and malt vinegar to mixing bowl and mix well. Shape mixture into 4 balls and roll in remaining bread crumb mixture. Spray heavy cookie sheet with non-stick oil. Place balls on cookie sheet and flatten to a thickness of 1 inch. Spray tops with non-stick oil. Cook 12-15 minutes, flip and cook another 12-15 minutes until golden brown.

(The dressing below was the one used on the seafood salad I used to love. This is the vegan version:)

REMOULADE DRESSING OR SAUCE

1 - 12.3 oz. pkg. silken style tofu (firm if available)
3 T. olive oil
2 T. cider vinegar
1 T. unbleached cane sugar
1 T. Dijon mustard or Creole mustard
1 t. salt
1 t. Creole Seasoning
1 T. freshly chopped parsley
1 T. relish
1 T. capers, drained

In a food processor or blender, place the tofu, olive oil, vinegar, mustard, salt, and Creole Seasoning, and process until smooth. Add the remaining ingredients and pulse a few times to combine. Transfer to an airtight container and store in the refrigerator. Use as a spread on sandwiches or wraps, as a sauce on steamed vegetables or grains, or as a salad dressing.

Yield: 1 1/2 cups

I am really, really curious about the konjac-based seafood alternatives, but haven't found any in stores near me. Granted, how hard I'm looking is disproportionately minimal compared to my interest level, so for all I know there could be half a dozen varieties at Whole Foods, but, again, have never tried any. I want to because 1) I'll try anything animal-free once, 2) it has an intriguing nutritional profile (minus the high sodium), 3) in my omni days I loved seafood (especially sushi) and still like the "oceany" taste of sea veg, and 4) people seem to dig it.

I've made passable vegan scallops by marinating king oyster mushroom in a kelp-spiked dressing, though.

Doesn't interest me. If fake fish tasted like real fish it would also make me gag.

Has anyone tried any of the fake seafood out there on the market? I have been burned on so many vegan "alternative foods" I am skiddish to try the "shrimp" or "scallop" products. I don't want to spend as much as on the real thing only to throw it away after one bite. I am not afraid to make things from scratch, so if anyone has a recipe or link to share I would be grateful.
