Yes, I try to only store things in glass containers.

Some people think the “plant-based whole foods diet” is extreme. Half a million a year will have their chests opened up and a vein taken from their leg and sewn onto their coronary artery. Some people would call that extreme.

i was a good little girl and when i bought snacks i would sit and measure and weigh and divide into zipper bags. i recently went for one of those snacks and they had the most horrible taste. EVERYTHING had picked up a plastic taste. i looked at some of the stuff in larger bags and they too tasted awful.
anyone else have this problem with storage?

Ruth, you're brilliant! I've been able to avoid using plastic bags for everything but my bulk items, and now you've given me a solution for that! And no guessing about which size container to transfer it to, no spillage as you try to pour from a plastic bag.... Brilliant! Now I just have to see if the 2 stores I have here will do it. Hope so!

I take the ball canning jars to the store with me and fill them at the bulk section. They weigh the empty jar and write the tare weight on the bottom with a permanent marker, then I fill it with whatever I want and get the accurate weight of whatever it is. I also buy my spices in bulk and use large "Chef" size clear plastic jars. I get them from "The American spice Company" online.

I love that my organic produce lasts much longer than regular produce. I get a delivery every 2 weeks and my lettuce is still good. when the stuff my husband gets is wilted in 3 days.

I agree and I love the ball jar idea! We have an ethnic market that carries all the dry beans, very inexpensive! They also carry veggies I've never seen, last visit we had 10 bags of fresh veggies for less than $70!! Still using them 2 weeks later! Diane

I liked that idea too. I had stuff stored in plastic containers and you couldn't see the contents right away and stuff would get like said, lost at the back of the pantry. I would love to have a place for open shelving where I could display them.

I bulk buy year round. I have found that the Ball Jars work great for storing things like beans and grains. I love making my own beans and freezing them for easy weeknight meals. It makes for no excuses to eat something homemade and healthy.

I find that if these jars are hidden in a pantry behind other things I tend to forget about them. So I've moved them all to the front so I see them every time I open it.

Now that we are really into fall, we're getting out our more substantial, comfort food recipes. The Vegetarian Times this month has a blog "7-Day Bulk-Buying Crash Course" that you might like to check out. Time to stock up on lentils and beans and rice...
