I read an interesting (and rather depressing) fact posted by Tuft University this week: "One pound of fat is the equivalent of 4000 calories." The article further stated that "In general you need to burn 4000 calories more than you consume in order to lose one pound. That would take a daily deficit of 571 calories to lose 1 pound a week. That is a reasonable target. If you want to be more agressive, do it through exercise not less food."
