I actually do keep a measuring cup next to the nuts, just to be safe!

"nuts are good for you but they are high in calorie high fat, ask me how I know, I pig on a regular basis on cashews"

LOL!!! Trust me, I understand, Mike! Cashews are my favorite, too, and they are the only kind of nut I use if I try to make veggie cheese (just taste so much better with cashews). But I been lazy this winter and haven't made many veggie cheeses at all. Got to get back to doing it.

"A small handful, however, is a great and satisfying snack or addition to a salad, etc. Too much of a good thing is, indeed, bad."

You are so right, Tory. I've tried to tell my dad this. He just hears on Dr. Oz that nuts are good for you, so he snacks on them several times a day--no telling how much fat he's getting! A person should only eat 1/4 cup of them per day--that's it! (And I've learned that 1/4 cup is less than "a handful" and that's always what they say to eat: a handful per day. Depends on how large or small ones hands are, I guess! Ha! So if a person eats nuts regularly, it's best to keep a 1/4 cup measure near the bag to make sure one doesn't overdo it.

I do love my nuts, but I am trying to curb my enthusiasm. I find that when I "crave" the fat in them it is really because I am low on carbs and they make me feel even more sedated, tired. Grabbing an orange, banana, or apple is better and if you still want nuts try to keep it to a reasonable amount.

While they are a nice treat and good for you in small amounts (about an ounce), it is probably not a great idea to rely on them as a main food source or a binge food choice. Also, raw and unsalted is best. Sometimes when I think I am craving nuts it is actually salt that is the culprit.

I love peanuts and NATURAL peanut butter, but I've always understood that moderation is key. So a bag of nuts of any kind is not a healthy choice, as it is very high in calories and fats. A small handful, however, is a great and satisfying snack or addition to a salad, etc. Too much of a good thing is, indeed, bad.

Terry, lol thanks for info. I live in vegas an dont know a thing about it. What im more worried about is being a pedestrian in this town. Seance the first of the year 50 people have been ran over by cars as they were out walking. An well i walk near about every where if i dont have bus money lol. As forthat resturant you mentioned i wouldnt as so much darken its door. So no worrys there.

Michele, I'd rather see you eating a bag of nuts than eating at the Heart Attack Grill in Vegas! I just heard on the news that another person had to be carted off to an amulance from the Heart Attack Grill in Vegas (which I had no idea it was in Vegas. I had heard of how controversial it is, with huge burgers and kinda making fun of how their burgers could lead to heart attacks!)

Have you ever seen the resterant before? They say the staff wears medical uniforms for their work outfits and the owner is dressed like a doctor! And they put on the customers a type of small medical gown to keep their cloths clean from all the grease in their burgers! Can you believe that! I mean it's funny in one way, but tragic in another.

So at least you are eating something healthy! Just don't eat too many bags of 'em, and you should be okay!

Thank goodness nuts are so good for you!

Here's a recipe for a cashew "goat cheese" substitute that I feed my omnivorous family as an appetizer. Everyone enjoys it.
