Evelynf, a lot of the recipes in the book which came with my machine have milk and eggs which I can substitute vegan. I just wanted something different. Full of grains. Tasty. Not the usual white bread, french bread (which is vegan by the way) or whole wheat bread.
Thanks for the links to more interesting recipes!

One of my favorite blogs is Vegan Dad. He went through the Breadmaker's Appretice and veganized a lot of the recipes. You can find his blog here: vegandad.blogspot.com/

He even has a book that he published through Lulu.

ok the 14 hour rising time scares me a bit but I'm game. I'll give it a try when my bread making season starts. Thanks!

Ah - my bread maker questions was more for Bonidale, thanks for the info!

Let me ask my husband, he found the original recipe from a Mark Bittman post years ago. He also likes to go on the bread blogs to see what people do. He's been making variations (different flours, adding whole grains and spices) on the basic recipe for a while now.

I remember the first time he made a loaf - it took about 18 hours to make and about 18 min to eat lol it was so good dipped in olive oil!

Evelyn - I'm not sure if the mixes are vegan or not. I just know they use a lot of ingredients that I don't want to eat just like regular loaves of bread from the store (even Panera).

I've heard of the no knead bread but not tried it. Do you have a recipe you would recommend? I'd love to give it a try.

So bread machine bread isn't vegan? that's so odd because regular bread is. What do they add milk or eggs? And do you know why it's different?

Kelly have you tried no knead bread? My husband got into it a couple of years ago and has been making bread on a regular basis when it's cool out. We don't really buy commercial bread anymore either. It's pretty easy, you just have to plan it for the day before since you don't knead it, it takes a lot longer to rise

Don't say that. I really suck at bread. I mean REALLY!! My bread machine used to be the only way I could do it but now that I have a mixer I am getting more adventurous with bread. I need to figure it out or else give it up. I'm not eating commercially produced bread anymore.

You're welcome! It is a really easy recipe - I am not a baker - and if I can't wreck this...

Thanks Bonidale! I'm going to try this recipe for sure. I can substitute a chia egg for the egg white very easily. I'm bookmarking this thread so that I can have it for the winter when I'll be a bread making fool.

Note: When I posted this, the directions meshed with the ingredients. The spaces were deleted. Use the link to make sense of this. Now I know - don't put ingredients on one side and directions on the other. :-)

70snut! Thanks for the recipe! I will try it. It sounds really good. I can probably adapt it for my bread machine. Just like Liv2ride, I just was given a bread machine.
Liv2ride, this is a really good recipe for bread, but I have yet to adapt it for my bread machine...Multi-Grain Seeded Bread
1 1/2 c whole wheat flour Directions: In lg. bowl combine flours, yeast and salt.
3/4 c all-purpose flour In sm. bowl combine seeds and oats.
7g active dry yeast In sm. saucepan heat1c water and molasses on
1/2 tsp salt low heat till very warm. Stir in flour mix. Stir in egg
3T sunflower seeds replacer. Dough will form. Turn dough out onto a
3T sesame seeds floured surface. Knead 10 min. Shape into a ball.
3T pumpkin seeds Cover and let sit in a warm place 2h until dbl in
1/3 c rolled oats size. Punch down. Work in seed mix. Shape 2.
2T molasses Put into 2 loaf pans. Cover. Let rise 1h. Top with

Have you tried beer bread? Self rising flour (or 1 c flour, 1 1/2 t baking powder, 1/2 t salt) so 3 cups self rising flour or take combo up to 3, 1 can (12 oz) beer or pop whichever you prefer, mix, put in prepped loaf pan and bake. Tastefully Simple (nationwide co based in Alexandria where I live) makes this by the box and it's fantastic tasting but kinda spendy so I've just made it myself once someone gave me the recipe. Not sure if it would work in bread machine.

I would love a good bread recipe. I've had such horrible luck with bread. I recently got a mixer so I hope someone has a good one.

I have looked on Spark's recipes and can't find a vegan recipe for bread to make in my bread maker. I have Googled some, but does anyone have a really tasty, nutritious recipe suggestion for me to try?
