I can't remember all the names DD said some people give their newborns; but a few have stuck in my mind. Really and truly, one woman said the doctor had already named her daughter......wait for it......"Female" as in Fe-ma-lay.
What do you say to some couple who only had one name picked out but got twin boys -- They were named Wil and Liam. That's "Will" and "Yum" because all they had was "William".
Ok, one more. DD says there are a lot kids running around the Memphis area who answer to the name of the drug used to induce labor.....Pitocin. emoticon

Thank you NJ for making my night. I used to love when my neighbor who was the night RN supv at the ER near us would tell stories of things patients said or did. Some one could hardly believe but "People are funny and do strange things!"
Nite all.

Nancy, I'm sorry, it slipped my mind that you don't work directly for that company, but for the temp agency. As Pat indicated, age discrimination is alive and well, unfortunately. Good luck with getting a job elsewhere, somewhere they don't expect you to move mountains on a daily basis. I am confident that you're a hard worker doing a good job. Otherwise they wouldn't have piled on the extra work. When I worked in an office, that's the way things operated - she who does a good job, gets extra work; which (s)he who doesn't do a good job gets to skate by. How shortsighted!!
As for feeling you have to give 100%, well, that just shows you're good. On my last job, I kept applying for a promotion, and ranked very high among those who qualified. I finally said something to my Team Lead about the supervisor not ever going to promote me, and my T.L. confirmed that. I reconciled myself to that fact, and continued to work well, hard, and offered my services to fellow team mates when I had time. I couldn't do otherwise and look in a mirror (or my soul). I was raised with the attitude of "if a job is worth doing, it is worth doing well."
emoticon used to find playing the piano to be salve to the soul, too. I'm so glad you have a piano now.

I usually research where I can find the better price on things, but I confess I hadn't looked at Wal-Mart before buying computer paper at Office Max. I should have known. : )
I was able to use the store brand ink in my old printer, but it made a mess in this one, so I use name brand. Costs more initially, but eliminates many frustrations when I go to print.

I finished my housework this morning, and am on my way to the shower; but need to iron. I've had a few things staring at me for too many days; and DH added to the stack when he last did laundry. emoticon

I'm re-reading Tony Evans' book "Victory in Spiritual Warfare". But it's not the kind of book you can read through like a novel -- I read some, then let the Lord use it to minister to me, then I read more. I'm definitely being attacked all around by Satan, and I need my thoughts guided back to the way God wants me to live.

I 'have to' share something my RN daughter (in another state) told me this morning. She works on the post-partum floor at a hospital that gets quite a few semi-literate people. When DD told me what someone said, tears ran down my face because I laughed so hard. You know from personal experience that when you go to the hospital they always ask a bunch of questions about family medical history. A 20 yr old woman was the patient, but as DD said, she probably still has her mother cut her meat, the patient isn't mentally deficient; just doesn't know/do anything on her own.
Ok, now that I've set the stage: DD asked about the medical history and mom spoke up saying she'd had "prostrate" cancer (lying down cancer?). Then, "no, maybe it was curling cancer" (colon). Upon further questioning, my DD was told that the patient's grandmother had had breast cancer but she got a "double vasectomy". By this time my DD was biting the inside of her cheek, and she excused herself and left the room. She went to the nurses station and let out all the pent up laughter. Now you know why I had tears running down my face when I heard all that.
You know what they say: "Laugher is the best medicine" and "Laughter is good for your heart".

Y'all have a great day!

NJ you are soooo right about discrimination due to age. My company sold out when I was 51 and I did some temp work but never did find anything comparable after that. Luckily we managed on DH's income from selling his business and his SS and I had severance for almost a year. I don't even want to think about it now.
Nancy I usually buy my paper at W-Mart as I find it to be the best bargain. I am like you and only use the name brand ink. Some friends swear by the other but I purchased all the ink for our company when I was office manager and I was told to use only genuine name brand ink because anything else caused too many problems with the printers and I always remember that.

NJ - I would have to be able to prove it was discrimination, and there's no way to do that. The agency doesn't have anything to do with getting hired as an internal. Those jobs I have applied for myself. It's the company where I work that I think is discriminating. You're right, I'm not sure I want to work for them. I'll keep trying until I get something else. It's not in me to not do a good job. I always feel like I have to give 100%. I did play tonight and it did help relax me. I got about half of the house cleaned. I wiped down the piano keys and that was it! I was done cleaning and had to play. The rest of the work will be there tomorrow!

Yes, Pat, it IS awful what printer ink costs. Even having a coupon, I still paid almost $60 for a black XL and a color XL cartridge. sigh. I checked some things online, and the XL cartridges print more pages than 2 regulars. And yes, I have to have HP - I've tried store brand ink, and it just wouldn't work for me. emoticon
Thanks for the heads-up on the expected life of a printer - I'm just over 3 years on mine. Hmmm, maybe be why my computer is so slow, too. sigh.
Wow, you sure did have a full day. And 80 degrees that early in the morning - well, I experienced that in Memphis. And people ask me why I hated living there - that was just one reason.
Congratulations on the perm. I hope it lasts a long time for you. emoticon

Nancy, it certainly does sound like age discrimination; although you would have to check to see what rights you have under your temporary agency, and document their hiring of younger people, passing over those who aren't so young. It would be a pain, and I doubt I'd want to work there if I won a lawsuit; but it's a thought. Personally, and I know you didn't ask, I'd rather go somewhere else to find a job, even though that's hard in this economy. Dear me. I wanted to be encouraging, but I think I haven't. Regardless what you decide to do, I'm rooting for you. You're obviously a good employee, or they wouldn't assign the extra work. What a choice - be incompetent but not over-worked, or do your job well, having pride in yourself, but be over-worked.
I hope you're able to play the piano this eve, and that it gives you much stress-relief.

Today DH and I went to Wal-Mart and computer paper caught my eye. A different brand, but otherwise the same as what I bought at Office Max the other day for $4, cost $2.50 at Wal-Mart - no sale, regular price. I kicked myself out to the car. LOL Luck of the draw.

NJ - Our manager's hands are tied. The company has told her she can't hire anyone due to he budget. It's ridiculous. I'm looking hard for another job but I think it may be hard because I'm 53. I work for a temporary agency as an "external", and the people that are getting hired as internals are all young. It's frustrating.

Pat - I've asked my employer about transferring but was told the only way I could do that would be to let me "contract" (I never signed a renewal contract after my first year) run out and take a chance of not having a job. I've applied for internal secretarial jobs but keep getting told they hired so or one with more experience. Like I told NJ, I think my she is hindering me. You had another full day today. I admire you for getting up they early to walk. When I'm retired, I do t plan to get up until I'm ready! I need to pull weeds but it's too hot today.

I'm doing my cleaning then I'm going to apply for as many jobs as I can. I hope I have time to play my piano too.

NJ great job-got your ink and at a bargain and ran some other errands at the same time-win-win!!! Isn't it awful what ink costs these days and it doesn't seem to last for any length of time. I used to get the XL cartridge for my HP printer and it had all the colors and black in one cartridge and it would last forever (or so it seemed). I made all my Christmas cards and never used it all up. Now it seems I print a few pages and need to add ink (no longer have that great printer-it died!). The guy at Office Depot told me they are making printers out of recycled materials these days and they do not last nearly as long-he says you are lucky to get 3-5 yrs out of one! I hate the one I got so praying it dies soon!!!!
Nancy I feel sorry for you. Expecting one person to do the work of 3 is expecting a lot. I know I used to work a lot of unpaid OT as I was salaried and the company didn't want to pay the clerks OT. I made it up from time to time by taking time off without using my vacation! I hope you are able to find another job without so much stress. Is there another position within the company that you could do that would be less stress?
I have had a full day. Set the alarm for 6:15 and it didn't go off but luckily I woke up anyhow and was able to get out to walk by 6:30. It was already 80 and was only going to go up from there. I worked in the park garden for about and hour and then sprayed the weeds in our rocks that were too small to pull. Hopefully they died a slow and painful death today in the heat. emoticon
When I made it in the house, I called my beautician to see if she could perm my hair! I got in at 12:30 and now have light curls/waves! I have very fine, thin hair and she has been pushing me to do this and I love it!!!!!!
By the time I was done there and stopped at Walgreens for a couple of sale items and then the grocery store, I didn't get home until 4:30 and I feel like I worked all day long.

OH NO!! Do they plan to bring in a cot for you? (just kidding). Surely someone is looking at this and realizes one person cannot do the job of three! I'll be praying for you, and good luck with finding another job. I've heard of doing more with less, but what they are requiring you to do is just unreasonable.

I have a feeling that work is going to get very stressful. I work as "floor support" for a large insurance company. My job is to keep track of where people are located, order supplies, fill out the necessary paperwork when people move to or from my floor, and offer any assistance needed. There are close to 300 people on my floor. Most of the time I don't do anything for individuals, I'm just here in case they need something. We have one girl out on maternity leave, and another girl is leaving Friday. I'm going to have to cover my floor, plus those two until they get someone trained. This tells me it's time to step up my search for a new job. ,

Thanks, Nancy. I, too, hope Josh has an easy adjustment to high school. But I think he will -- he's so mature, and made a good adjustment, quickly, to middle school.
I'm sorry they confused you and you had to turn around so much. Why do people tailgate? I mean, what do they expect you to do?
Good for you for getting walking in today, even though you had to stay indoors.

Oh My! Pat, that was an awful way to learn to tow something. Oh Wow! You're emoticon On the other hand, at least Bill was smart enough to know he couldn't do it any more. Still, 42 ft RV plus a car, 2 lane road, likely in mountains!!!
True, we're talking about not mowing, but it won't happen any time soon. Some years we mow into early October, but not necessarily every week. I AM hoping the weeds stop growing soon. Yeah, right. LOL We have several bushes the bees are very protective of - makes weeding interesting.
How wonderful that you can slip into the pool. I'm glad you and Vicky got to enjoy it so long today.

I wanted to get more ink for my printer, but the stores that carry it (have to get brand name) are all about 20 miles away, so I didn't plan a special trip.....yet. DH sent an email to me this morning from one of the stores, giving a $10 discount on an ink purchase of $50 or more. Woo-Hoo! I already knew I needed over $60 worth of ink. DH had a few errands to run in that direction, so we went. I got my ink (plus printer paper on sale) and used the coupon. Felt like I'd hit the lottery. Ha!

Those small trailers are harder to deal with than a large one. Bill used to have me drive our "Big" F800 Ford truck towing a load of appliances and it was scary at first, but at you stated, that trailer just follow you!!!
Hope your heat wave doesn't last too long-surely know how ugly the heat can be.

Pat - This is just a small trailer that we haul our riding mower with. I was able to push it to the truck and raise up the hitch to the ball. I did have to have our neighbor lock it, I couldn't make that switch move. No way I would want to drive a motor home, especially not hauling a trailer! We're having hot, muggy weather today. I didn't get out at lunch. I've been busy covering toe floors again so I'm getting plenty of walking done.

Nancy I used to pull our cycle trailer with our van and could never see it! I would make my sons unhitch it and hook it back up so I wouldn't have to back it. emoticon Now a few years later when DH lost his sight, I had to drive a 42 ft motorhome and tow our car!! Mind you he threw me the keys when we were in the mountains in Colorado on a 2 lane road!!! I got pretty good with it but only did good backing because DH was there to guide me. I have driven coast to coast a couple of times. Don't think I want to do it anymore. Good for you for not being afraid and doing it though.
NJ I can't believe both of you are talking about how soon you will be able to stop mowing. We mow till Nov down here and even thru the winter usually have to do it about every 4-6 weeks!! This week is to be our hottest week of the summer. We are to be 94-96 all week and the heat index will be well over 100 every day. emoticon
I worked out in the park after my walk and finished weeding up by the long white fence and then came home and worked in my yard for another 45 min. By then it was 10 am and I was dripping wet so decided to call it a day for outside work. emoticon I just had to take a nice quick shower after that. Vicky called and we went to the pool about 10:45 and didn't come home till 12:30. Pure bliss. I just get in the deep end and work out with the water weights and tread water. emoticon
Now I need to go do 2 more doors worth on my hutch. I am not going to get it done if I don't!!! emoticon

NJ - I hope Josh has an easy adjustment to high school. I remember being a nervous wreck but I did ok. It's too bad the school didn't recognize Ethan's disability and get him the help he needed earlier. I didn't do too bad with the trailer. I had to turn around twice because
BIL confused me about where they were so I passed my exit. They were on the way home so I had to turn around again by making an illegal u-turn. The only time I had trouble was when someone was following very closely right before I had to pull off the highway. He switched lanes to get behind me and was so close it made me nervous. My husband had to back the truck and trailer up to load the bike on.

I know what you mean about temps going up again when school starts. Our grandsons' schools start tomorrow. Josh is a freshman this year. I wonder what hazing he'll endure.....hopefully nothing more than a few "hey, freshman. Look at me when I'm talking to you." or some other such stuff. I doubt the school will tolerate more than that. Tyler's in the 5th grade, Katie is in the 6th grade, and I'm not sure where Ethan is - 1st grade again, I think. He has learning disabilities, and the school is only now getting on board about giving him the help he needs. DD has had to push and push and push. Sometimes bureaucracies are such a pain, and need to be nagged to death before they do what they should have been doing all along. Oh well.
I think that if I were towing something and only drove in a straight line, I could do it; but those turns and lane changes..... emoticon

NJ - I've driven with the trailer one other time. It's not that hard once yo realize it, just follows. You just have to allow room when changing lanes. I made him drive home with his bike on it. I didn't want to be responsible! It's supposed to reach 85 today and the humidity will be higher. School started and it always seems to warm back up then.

Nancy, my DH is also about counting the days (weeks) until he doesn't have to mow any more this season. We, like you, aren't quite there yet. LOL I looked at the yard today, and could see that it isn't as long as it usually gets before he mows, so maybe our cooler temps are moving us in that direction. Of course, we're edging back to our normal (80's) for this time of year, but I've enjoyed not using the A/C as much lately.
My goodness! I'm sure your BIL was glad you were home and able to drive the trailer to help him out. I've never towed anything; just the thought of driving with something attached to the back of my vehicle is intimidating. Glad you were able to do it.
I hope you get to ride the trike on Friday. I know you enjoy that a lot.

NJ - It will be strange not having to get up early and to work. My husband said we might even be done mowing my dsughter's for the season but I don't think so. It didn't really need it this past week but I bet we have to go. It is only August! We have to meet our new tenants sometime next week because they want to start moving in next Saturday maybe we can take a ride on the trike Friday evening. Sometime I wake up tired even after sleeping well. I'm glad you listened to your body and took a nap.

Pat - a Thanks for sharing the recipe. The salad sounds delicious and will be on my menu plan for next week. I'm glad Bill is feeling better and hope he continues to feel well.

We made our final visit to the duplex this week. It's not completely done but the inside is ready.
The deck still needs repaired, the hedge needs trimmed, and the trim around the doors needs painted. That can be done with tenants living there do I'm calling it done! My husband and BIL rode their cycles over yesterday to meet with their other step brother. He came to repair the tub. It had a crack and he used to repair boats so we had him look at the tub on Saturday. He had to let it set up and finished it yesterday. I got a call from BIL that he had a flat tire on his bike so I had to take the trailer over so he could get it home. Changing a tire in a motorcycle isn't as easy as a car!this was only the second time I've driven with the trailer so I was a
Ittle nervous, but I did just fine. I told him he was driving home because I was t driving with his bike on the trailer!

Pat, I'm so glad Bill is feeling better. What a great-sounding day you've had. I'm glad the women gave as good as they got in the card game. : ) Oh, that you should be that 'lost' more often. emoticon Here's hoping neither of you needs to see any doctor for many weeks to come.
I've copied the yummy-sounding BLT salad recipe. Thanks so much.

Chilling this evening. Have a good night's rest.

Bill woke up feeling much better today so hoping he is back on track. We went to church and then out to lunch with Vicky & Sonny. We did soup & salad at Olive Garden and then came back here and played Hand & Foot-split the games so everyone was happy.
Very hot out there this afternoon so not doing anything outside for now. I am almost lost, no dr appointment for a few weeks!!
Hope everyone had a great weekend.

BLT salad with sweet onion vinaigrette

Serving:4

Prep. Time:20 minutes

Ingredients

Dressing

2 tbsp (30 mL) apple cider vinegar

1 tbsp (22 mL) liquid honey

2 tbsp (30 mL) finely chopped or minced sweet onion

2 tsp (10 mL) coarse grain mustard

tsp (1 mL) each salt and pepper

cup (50 mL) olive oil

Salad

4 hard-cooked eggs, peeled

8 cups (2 L) mixed salad greens

1 cups (375 mL) grape tomatoes, halved

4 slices bacon, cooked and chopped

Directions

Dressing:

In a small bowl combine apple cider vinegar, liquid honey, onion, mustard, salt and pepper. Slowly whisk in oil. Set aside.

Salad:

Finely grate or chop 2 eggs; slice remaining 2 eggs. In a large salad bowl, combine green, tomatoes, bacon and grated eggs. Toss with dressing to coat and garnish with remaining egg slices. Serve immediately.

Variation:

Sliced mushrooms, apples, diced avocado and toasted sunflower seeds would be delicious additions to this salad.

"Eggs-pert" Advice

Grating or finely chopping the eggs adds creaminess to the salad, but you can also serve the eggs in wedges or slices on the top.

I added some small chunks of low fat sharp cheddar and some tortilla strips for crunch to it as I like crunch in my salad and I put diced peppers to Bill's.

Nancy, burgers sound good to me. Glad you enjoyed them. I'm glad your BIL is helping you finish up the work on the house. What a relief for you, but then, you probably will wake up that first weekend (post repairs) and wonder what to do that day. Hahaha

Pat, I'm sorry you keep getting thunderstorms.....poor Abbie. I'm not against you getting needed rain, but it could be quieter! :D
I'm so sorry Bill had an episode, and hope that he's past it now. Maybe it was the ribs, as you said.
Bless your heart. I'm sorry you're having problems, too, and hope that you plan of do a little, rest a little does the trick for you.
The BLT salad sounds yummy. As with Nancy, I'd love to have a copy of the recipe.

I got a good night's rest last night, but when I woke up this morning, I was still exhausted. Strange. I finally got up, ate breakfast, read a little then slept for another couple of hours. I think that helped quite a bit. Don't know what got into me to make me that worn out.

It's rainy today, but tomorrow looks good. I really need to get out and pull weeds and today's rain should make it easier. It's to get into the mid-80's tomorrow, and of course, with plenty of humidity, so I'll need to get out early.

Pat - I hope it was just the ribs. If they were greasy that could have been it. I have trouble when I eat greasy foods. I'm glad you're not pushing yourself to hard. We're supposed t have rain off and on for the next week. It rained a but this morning but no storms. I'd like to have that recipe if you don't mind sharing.

We had another thunderstorm move thru today about noon. Luckily I had gotten the west side of our house weeded and pruned the shrubs before that!
DH is having another "episode". First major one since he started the medicine. Not sure if it just happened or it is in response to the ribs he ate last night. Hoping he feels better soon. We don't dare leave home today.
I am doing better with my meds but not pushing things. Trying to do a little and then rest a little and it seems to be helping me from aching too much.
Think I am going to go put our salad together-friend sent me a recipe for a BLT salad and it was a winner. 2nd time I have made it!

NJ - Thanks! I'm pretty excited about the piano. It will be a huge relief not to have to work on the property every Saturday. We've taken a couple off and that felt great! My BIL is coming tomorrow so it won't take us long at all.

Pat - I don't know how good I'll be, but I know I'll enjoy it. I'm glad you were able to get back to sleep after the storm this morning. I have weeds to pull too but won't get to it for a while. We're supposed to get rain for the next week, dinner out sounds nice. We went with BIL to a local bar and had burgers tonight. Yum!

Thank you, Pat. The kitties and I will have a great 'love fest' when they're out of quarantine. emoticon
I'm glad the rain softened the ground for you - sure makes pulling up weeds easier, doesn't it?!! You sure got a lot done today, AND ironing. emoticon
Poor Abbie -- and poor Bill and Pat! I'm glad you got more sleep after the storm passed.
KUDOS on getting so much done that you had a car load to take to the thrift shop. I know someone(s) will appreciate it.
Hope you're enjoying your dinner out tonight.

It hasn't rained around here recently enough, but I really do need to pull weeds....maybe tomorrow. And I have a couple of things needing ironing. Guess tomorrow is a work day. That is, after DH and I do the 'boxed' lunches for the conference at church. We'll make sandwiches tonight, then put everything together tomorrow morning and take it up to church. After lunch, we'll clean up. Hmmmm, come to think of it, since the weather is to be very warm (hot) tomorrow, I won't be weeding, because I try to always do it in the early morning. Oh, gee! What a shame. emoticon Guess it'll 'have to' wait until Monday or so.

Nancy how exciting. I hope you get lots of hours of enjoyment out of the piano. I took lessons for several years but never was a great pianist! My brother could really tinkle those ivories but don't know if he even plays anymore. My grandmother played by ear. She could play anything after hearing it. I wasn't blessed with her talent! emoticon
NJ so sorry the kitties are still in "lock down". I am sure you will be glad when you can love on them again. Hopefully they will all be better soon.
We had a nasty thunderstorm about 5 am or so. Abbie was a nervous mess so kept us awake till it let up so instead of getting up to walk, we fell back asleep about 6:30 and didn't wake up till 8:30! Instead of walking, I worked in the garden up front for about 90 min. I hauled off 3 buckets of weeds I pulled and stuff I pruned back. I only got halfway done but at least it was a start. It was cooler when I started and with the ground wet, the weeds pulled really easy. I think I will try to finish it tomorrow.
I had to take a shower when I got home as I was literally dripping wet. After that we loaded up the car and had a trunk full we took to the thrift store. Glad to have that much gone and sure I will have another load before I am done. By the time we got back home it was after noon.
I am heading in to iron now-Bill did 2 loads of laundry so need to get on it. Why is it that some jobs just never get done, there is always more coming in???
We are going out to dinner tonight. Instead of having potluck at the clubhouse once a month, we have been going out to eat so that is tonight. Best get busy if I want to get it all done!
Pat

Yea! Nancy, I'm so glad you're finally getting a piano. I'll bet you'll enjoy it for a long time to come.
I'm also very happy for you that you've slept better these past few nights. Sleep depravation causes us so many problems, not the least of which is that our minds just don't function properly.
I pray you'll be able to sell your house for a good price, even if it means you need to rent it for awhile first.
I'm sure you and DH will be relieved to be finished with all the repairs, etc of the duplex. It's been a huge job, from what you've told us.

DH and I did our bi-weekly grocery shopping this a.m., and now I'm trying to talk myself into getting on the treadmill. I know I need it, but..... LOL

Pat - I don't blame you for worrying about his meds with all his conditions. Too many meds can't be good for you. Cleaning our your hitch sounds like a big job!

NJ - I did sleep better the past two nights, thanks for asking. We talked about the house last night and we do t really want to sell if for the low price we're asking now. We'll be better off to rent it. The rent will cover the mortgage, insurance, and taxes and the renter can take care of the yard. Hopefully the market will turn around and we can sell it later. I hope you're able to hold the kitties soon!

We mowed last night and tomorrow will be heading over to finish the small tasks that are left at the duplex. We need to install the screens (we need to repair them tonight), hang a towel bar, paint a little bit of door trim, and fix a closet door that sticks. The renters are moving in the following weekend.

Yesterday we had my husband's grandmother's piano delivered to our house. She left it to my MIL. When Dad died, she and hubby were talking about her will. The piano was mentioned and he told her I'd love to have it. I've wanted one since I was six. So she decided to give it to me. Her house sold and she's moved in her daughter so I get the piano! I know how to play, my mom had an organ and I learned to play it. Piano is different so I need lots of practice.

Nancy, I hope you were able to get a good night's rest last night.
I wish you all the best in doing something productive with the house. Selling would be ideal, but at least with renting, you'll get some money it. Even tho' prime selling season is over, it could still sell.
It's a shame DH didn't get home for dinner, but at least he gets 'points' for letting you know beforehand. Both your planned dinner and tacos sound good.

Pat, a screened-in tent sounds GREAT. I'd love to have one, but it wouldn't be as practical at baseball games; so our canopy-only will have to do.
I'm so glad the medicine is helping Bill; and hope he won't have to be on it forever. It's great that he's eating (and keeping it inside), and helping around the house. Those walks are good, too, and I hope he continues them.
I'd love to have a hutch, except for having to straighten and clean it. LOL You're taking recycling to great heights. You're a good person. Especially because you donate to places that benefit the local community.

The kitten room at the shelter is still under quarantine, but there have been no new outbreaks, so I'm hoping that a week from now I won't have to wear long sleeves or vinyl gloves the whole time I'm in the room. Besides, I miss being able to hold the kitties.

I finished the baby bonnet last evening and now I'm working on finishing the scarf which will go with a hat I already crocheted.....adult size.

Nancy at this point we are not sure if he will need it forever. Hopefully not. I worry about meds with all his other conditions! Our primary said it would be ok with his kidneys but haven't talked to his oncologist yet. The Humira that the gastro doc mentioned really scared me and as long as this is working don't plan to use it.
I am now working on "purging" things from my 12 foot long built in hutch. It has 6 doors and 4 drawers just on the bottom and 4 door and 3 shelves on top. I have cleaned out the area behind 3 of the bottom drawers so far. I have a big tub loaded with stuff to take to the thrift store. Thinking this time I will donate it to the battered women's shelter. I try to do the local thrift stores that will benefit our community.

Pat - I'm not sure whet we'll do with the house. Sine the prime buying season will be over we'll probably just rent it out. Maybe next Spring we can try with a different realtor. He problem is there is really not much in that town. It used to be an Air Force base. There really are no major employers there. I'm glad Bill is doing better. Will he need the medication. The rest of his life? It's good to hear that you took some time for yourself today. That is so important.

Hubby didn't make it home for dinner tonight. I did a quick once over of the house. Just dusted around things and ran the vacuum real quick. That's it for my housework this week. He'll be gone two days next week so I can clean then. I was going to make steak, baked potatoes, and corn on the cob for dinner. He texted me to let me know he wouldn't be home for dinner so I made tacos. I have enough leftover mets for several lunches.

We used to have a screened tent we set up in the winter in FL when we stayed in our RV. It gave us an outdoor room and we kept our chairs (recliner & lawn) and a round table in it. We played a lot of cards in there and dined in it. Sure helped to keep the "skeeters" away! When we didn't need it anymore, we gave it to our friends, Roger & Ruthie and they used it for almost 2 winters before it gave up the ghost! I bet you will find lots of uses for your canopy tent.
Our little shop vac is a black and decker, I think we got it at W-Mart. It is only about 12 inches tall. We got it to use in the rv so it is at least 15 yrs old and still working fine!
Nancy I hope you can get the lawn mowing done and miss the rain. Sure hard to fit it all in and work too isn't it? Are you looking at another realtor is this one doesn't sell your house? I am praying that someone will be interested and make you an offer soon.
We are both doing much better. Bill is eating again and keeping it in so that is a relief. Medicine was worth every penny to get these results. He is walking daily now and helping some around here. emoticon
I am also feeling a lot less pain which is great. Sure makes walking every morning a lot less painful. I took a short break after my walk and enjoyed my Florida room and breakfast this morning. I can't remember the last time I did that. Ah, pure bliss for an hour. Then I got busy!! I cleaned all the cabinets and drawers in my kitchen. Now things are all nice and neat and organized again and I purged a few items along the way!!
Spent a little over an hour at the pool this afternoon so it has been an awesome day for me!

NJ - If I don't sleep well tonight I'll take a sleeping pill. I do have some melatonin so I might try that tonight. We've had a little rain this week, but not much. We have one of those canopies too. We bought it when we were having family cookout at our old house. It wasn't large enough for everyone to eat inside. They do come in handy!

Nancy, I do hope that you can soon figure out whatever is the cause of your wakefulness so you can address it. It may be several things, but once you figure it out, I know you'll be able to decide what to do. I, too, have fallen asleep in from of the tv (or reading a book) then been wide awake when I got into bed! Sometimes our bodies are perverse.
I have to use a central vac at the animal shelter whenever the kitten room is in quarantine, and there are pluses and minuses to using one.
I don't get on my knees to do hard floors any more either. I don't they'd take it. Ha!
I'm glad you had a nice day yesterday; but with your forecast, yeah, it sounds like a visit to your daughter's house after work is the smart thing to do. Good luck.

We got quite a bit of rain the past day or so (I don't know how much) but NOTHING like what Detroit and other places got. I heard on the news yesterday that Detroit had gotten 1-1/2 inches of rain in 25 minutes. God bless those poor folks.

DH and I spent time this morning setting up our new canopy/tent - first one we've had. We do need to practice. emoticon We bought it primarily to use at ballgames, but obviously now that we have one, we'll likely use it at other times, too. Canopy chairs not withstanding, we really need the extra shade some times.

I've started (knitting) the bonnet to go with the baby sweater and booties I knitted last year. One of the ladies in our church is due in November, and since it's her first, I know they'll throw her a shower at some point. Glad I'm already prepared. emoticon

Well, folks, I need to get on with some other things, but I do enjoy reading how you all are.

NJ - It almost always in Sunday, but sometimes other nights too. Last night I was falling asleep I my chair but, when we went to bed I was wide awake. I've been thinking about finances a lot but wasn't really thinking of the last night. Maybe if the house would sell it would help. I'm. It sure. How nice of you to take Josh to school and then treat the boys to an Icee! I am very fortunate, the house we bought has a central vac with a jack In the garage. It works so much better than the small hand held vacuums. It's more of a hassle to drag out the long hose though.

Pat - We have a shop vac that we use when cleaning rental properties. I have the same problem with it falling over! I used to use one in the house for cleaning edges and furniture. It was a lot easier to drag it around than the house vacuum, especially on the stairs. I don't have a steam op, but I don't get on my knees either. I used to use a mop weekly and get on my knees once a month. Our new house had too many hard floors for that. I'm glad your doctor spent extra time with you and you got your questions answered. I hope things settle down so you can out an end to the stress eating.

Yesterday was a nice cool day, it was almost like Fall. Today it started out cool but is supposed to reach 80. They are calling for warmer weather and high humidity this weekend with possible storms. That means we better go to our daughter's after work one night because we never made it this weekend. That grass is going to be so tall! Another reason it just needs to sell.

Ooooo, a small shop type vac. I like the sounds of that, and wonder if I could talk DH into getting one. Haha I'll have to give it good old college try. What? You pull yours over frequently?! Say it ain't so, Magee. emoticon
I do hope you find a new steamer on sale. Sometimes it seems like appliances (and I call that an appliance) cost more than I want to pay.
It's nice that you have such a good relationship with your financial advisor, giving you that extra measure of confidence with him.
I'm so glad that you were able to spend all that time with the dr. I always appreciate a dr who will spend enough time with me that I don't feel like I'm imposing on his time. I'm glad this dr gave you a recommendation for another gastro dr. Sounds like the one y'all have/had isn't anyone I'd like taking care of me.....it's MY body after all - why can't I have more information about it?!
I very much hope Bill's doing more and more better now that he's on the new meds.

NJ-we have one of those very small shop type vacs and I love it for the car. We have had it for years and years and the suction is great. One is supposed to change the bag, but we never have-I just keep emptying it!! emoticon The only downside to it, if it falls over while you are vacuuming, it has to be shut off so the ball falls back into place (I can hear it fall) and turn it back on and you are back in business. Can you tell I pull it over frequently. emoticon
Nancy it just may be because you sleep in on weekends. They say one should try to keep close to the same time getting up and going to bed to avoid sleep problems no matter what day it is but it sure is hard I know. Occasionally I like to sleep later. Here I am retired and still get up by 6 or 6:30!!! Just doesn't seem right. When I worked, I was at work before 7 so you know I was an early riser!! Hope tonight was better for you.
I was up early to walk this morning and then came home and got busy cleaning-one can only put it off so long!! DH did run the vacuum and emptied the trash can. Our home mainly gets dusty and we track in sand so it isn't bad. I did clean my countertop off on my built in hutch and pitched a lot and took some books back to the library and it looks much better in there. I steam mop my floors but worry my steamer is going bad-it doesn't seem to send out as much steam as it once did. Guess I will start watching for them to go on sale. Can't get down on the knees and scrub like I used to. emoticon I gave Abbie a bath and DH sat out with her so she could air dry.
Our financial advisor arrived right on time at 11:30. He really could have skipped the visit but had time between appointments and my 401K that I rolled over had a portion that was up for renewal so we discussed that. Basically everything will be taken care of in Sept so will see him in a month and we will get things done for the coming year. He has a little guy a little over a yr old so had to show us videos of him. It is nice to feel like one has a personal relationship with someone who is handling your savings. This is what we have to rely on for the rest of our lives and so many folks have lost everything by trusting the wrong person!!!
Our dr's office called and asked if we wanted to move our appointment from tomorrow to this afternoon. We agreed to come in at 3:45 so won't have to go tomorrow.
We had lunch plans with Vicky & Sonny and another couple, John & Judy, so we went at 1. We went to a Mexican and I had a salad but still probably not the best choice. Sure know it didn't help the scale at the dr's office!!
We were the last appointment of the day so dr spent about 45 min with us. That was great. Got lots of answers that the gastro doc didn't give us. We have a recommendation from him for another gastro doc. Will follow up the end of this month and then make up our mind what we will do. My labs were a tab bit higher so I have to buckle down. I wasn't expecting things to be great-had just gotten back from vacation and I am a stress eater and the past few weeks have put me to the test. Going back on my strict diet for a couple of months and see if that doesn't get things in line and take off a few pounds.
DH's labs were fairly good-kidney function was a little affected but otherwise things were good. His inability to eat much for the past couple of months really affected things. Hoping with this new medicine things will improve.
Pat

Nancy, if it's primarily Sunday nights that you don't rest well, maybe it's an unconscious dread of the work week rolling around. Or, it could be sleeping in on the weekend -- OR, any one of a number of things. I hope you figure it out, so you can rest better.

Shortly before I left to pick up Josh and Tyler today, Josh called and asked if he could use my printer since he couldn't get something to work at his house. When I got to their house, Josh told me he hadn't gotten his parents to sign a form stating that it was alright for him to read two particular books and would I sign it. Since it all had to be turned in before 3:30 today, I signed it and put "Grandmother" behind my name. emoticon

I brought them back here, and let Josh use my printer, which almost immediately ran out of ink. Fortunately, I had another cartridge. As Tyler and I waited in the car at the high school, we saw a steady stream of kids running into and out of the school. Josh wasn't the only one turning in paperwork. When Josh got back to the car, I asked, "who wants an Icee?" Duh, Grandma, who do you think? LOL

I finally got to pull into my driveway. I hauled out the small vac and tried to suck up the crumbs Tyler left when he ate a pancake in the back seat. My opinion is that we need to trash the vacuum cleaner, as the suction is almost non-existent. And yes, I emptied the tiny bag. But after so many years, things like that give out.

NJ - You have had a busy morning! I don't know why I couldn't sleep last night. I often have trouble sleeping on Sunday nights. It might be from sleeping in so late this weekend. How nice that you can give Josh a ride to the school today. It's hard to believe it's they time of year already.

Double OUCH! arthritis and degenerative disk disease. Poor guy - no wonder he's in pain. I hope he really will go to the chiropractor today.
It's great he's home this week and y'all get extra time together, as well as him being able to relax. I sure do hope the chiropractor can do some magic for him.
Maybe the exercise you get today will help you sleep better tonight - I hope so. I'm glad the day (so far) is going well......hope it keeps it up.

I did a wee bit of housework this morning, then sat down to catch up on email and Sparks. My grandson called to let me know what time he needs a ride to the hi school. He has to turn in a book report; and yes, they had a reading list for this summer. School starts again sometime next week. Although it's possible Mom told him to ask if that would interfere with our plans for today; it's also possible that Josh thought of it himself.

After Josh's call, I got a reminder call from the oral surgeon I'm to visit tomorrow; then my older sister called just to talk. We talked a good while then DH came in and asked for my help with dismantling the swing he'd made when Josh was a small child. The wooden seat had finally started disintegrating. Whew! That constitutes a busy morning for me. : )

Pat - Sorry you got rained out of going to the pool and that they guys won the card games. We used to play cards with my BIL and his girlfriend but haven't for quite a while. I miss having people over.

NJ - Oops. emoticon That was a typo. He has back pain. He has arthritis and degenerative disk disease. He said he is going to the chiropractor today and I didn't need to stay home to take him. Hopefully he will.

Today is going well so far. I didn't sleep great, but still got up early enough for a short workout. I'm going to walk at lunch today too. Hubby doesn't have to travel this week so I'm looking forward to some extra time with him.

Nancy, I'm glad you're having a great summer. I hope your DH either gets well, or caves and goes to the dr. You said he has gas pain, then mentioned going to the chiropractor. I thought a chiropractor 'just' did adjustments to get your body lined up better. Well, on reflection, I suppose that could make a difference with gas pain. Anyway, I hope DH gets better - I don't know anybody who enjoys being in pain.

Pat, I'm glad to hear the mid section of the country is having a better year with crops. But you're right - those poor folks out west can't win or losing.
That pesky rain - how dare it show up and keep you from the swimming pool. emoticon But it could have been a bummer of a day - at least you had Sonny and Vicky to enjoy the day with. Well, you and Vicky will just have to whip the guys' behinds the next time.

I thought the crops looked beautiful all the way up to Michigan from Florida. After what we saw 2 years ago when it was nothing but HOT and DRY it was such a welcome change. It looked like it will be a bumper year. Do feel so sorry for those folks out west who just can't get rain or if they do, it is a flood.
We were off to breakfast about 8:30 and then headed to church afterwards. It made for a nice morning. Had planned a day at the pool but rain came and kept that from happening as planned. Ended up playing cards with Vicky & Sonny and the boys showed no mercy today!

NJ - We were posting at the same time. We've had a perfect summer. Not too hot and just enough rain. The crops look good. Our backyard is at the edge of a cornfield and it grew fast this year. My husband doesn't go to his physician doctor unless he has to, he doesn't trust doctors. He's usually ok about the chiropractor, but keeps making excuses for some reason. Or, maybe he really just runs out of time. It's hard to say.

Nancy, I'm glad you've gotten some rain, but I hope it wasn't too much. There are so many areas suffering from droughts this year, and I cringe when I hear about the South West, which is in the worst shape from what I hear. I'm glad you got the mowing done before the rain came - now you don't have to wait for it to dry out to finish. : )
I, too, read my Kindle a lot of the time when I'm on the treadmill. Helps move the time, but I have to watch it so I don't lose sight of how many minutes at what speed. LOL
I'm so sorry your DH is suffering. Yes, if you have to miss a day of work to make SURE he gets to the dr, then I'd say it was a good use of the day. Some men are such babies about even going to the dr. I THINK (maybe) that my DH has finally started telling the dr things and asking questions. He's sometimes so stubborn, and he says, 'if the dr thinks I need to know something, he'll tell me.' AAARRRGGGG! But I've quit saying anything, except to ask if his life insurance is paid up. emoticon

Thank you, Lori, I HAVE been having a good day. No emergencies, no real problems with anything. Well, except my computer gets dead slow sometimes. Haha

Hi Pat. I have so many unread books on my Kindle, that when I do finish one, I remove it from the Kindle and Amazon keeps it online in my account so that I can access it any time I may want to re-read it. Handy. Like many other folks, I mostly 'buy' free books from BookBub (comes daily via email). Once in awhile, I'll like a free one so much, that I may pay up to $3.99 to buy a sequel......but usually, I just pay $0.99 if I actually buy a book.
Yes, I'm pretty sure Tyler enjoyed having us to himself. We sure did enjoy having him.
I'm so glad you gave yourself the day off. Sleeping in sometimes, then hitting yard sales. Woo-Hoo! Wow! You sure did get some great bargains. I'm glad you found the candy canes for almost free, and the top and shorts were a real bargain, as you said. Great!

Have a blessed Sunday.

Pat - I'm glad you took time today for a fun day! You got some great bargains! Two hours in a pool sounds like heaven.

We spent today doing absolutely nothing. After lunch we napped. Hubby is still sleeping. We needed to take the tractor in today for servicing but that will have to wait. I hope we can drop it off tomorrow. I'm not sure the service department will be open tomorrow.

Nancy hope DH does get in and get things looked at - no sense in being in pain. Hopefully it is just an adjustment needed. Glad you got your mowing done before the rain came.

NJ I guess I am too cheap to pay for something when I don't have to and once I have read a book I don't care to keep it so don't mind not having it stay on my tablet. Glad you had a fun time out with friends and then another good time with your grandson. I bet he enjoyed having you to himself.

Vicky called early this morning (8:30) and I had decided to give myself a day off so hadn't gotten up yet! I am usually up by 6 or 6:30! The 4 of us went to 6 different yard sales and stopped at a couple of places that weren't advertised. I found a top and a couple of pairs of shorts that I can use to work in the gardens (some of the ones I wear need to be pitched!). I got all 3 for $1 for great bargain. I also got a ceramic birdhouse for the park and 8 plastic candy canes for the park. They sell the candy canes at Dollar Tree for $1 and we got 8 that look like new for $1.
Vicky & I spent nearly 2 hours at the pool this afternoon. I was originally planning to clean house today and work on my hutch (decluttering it inside) but it will wait for another day!!!!

NJ - We did get some rain. It started sprinkling just as I was finishing the mowing. I have a iPad and have the Nook and Kindle aps. BookBub is a website that offers free and inexpensive books. I've signed yo and receive daily emails with the newest offers. I download most of the free books. I figure if I don't like it, I'm not out any money. My kids often get me Barnes and noble or iTunes gift cards. I use the iTunes mostly for books as my husband and I have the same taste in music and I can "steal" his music. It's not really stealing, you're allowed to share.

Lori - I like paper books too. I read those while I am in the bike or treadmill. If I drop them they won't break like my iPad would.

Pat - I hate having blood drawn. I need to get that done and my mammogram too. I'll try to get them done the same day as they can both be done at the same place.

So far today has been a lazy day. My husband is having a lot of gas k pain today. He was going to go to the chiropractor yesterday, but he and his brother did tune ups on the lawn tractors instead. He isn't traveling next week so he will be going Monday if I have to takes day off work to be sure he goes! He's been in pain for quite a while but keeps putting off the visit.

Hi Pat. I know I should be able to borrow books on my Kindle, from the library; but I haven't tried it yet. Should, I know. : )
I'm glad you and Bill are through with the blood-letting, and hope it's a long time before it needs to be done again.
Sounds like you had a busy, but fun day.

We took friends to dinner tonight - our way of 'paying them back' for all they've done for us. Then we ended up at their house for coffee and lots more great conversation. Finally had to leave to come home and let Darby out. heh-heh

We took Tyler (10) out to lunch then miniature golfing and back to our house before we had to take him home. Had a real good time, but I came in third in the miniature golfing. :D Josh demonstrated his maturity by choosing to not go with us because he had to write a book report. He has a reading list (with book reports) for the summer. I still have remind myself that he'll be in 9th grade in a few weeks!

My two Mississippi grandchildren started school this week. Yeah, they start awfully early, but then, their school year is generally over before Memorial Day.

Have a restful night, everyone, and a great weekend.

NJ I use a tablet to read my books. I borrow them from our library for free and they have a very extensive collection and adding to it all the time.

We both had to go get blood drawn this morning - glad that it is done!! Poor DH had to get stuck twice.

We took a trip to a neighboring city so we could go to BJ's and also went to a couple thrift stores and had lunch out with our friends, Vicky & Sonny.
