Thanks for the heads-up, Nancy. I think I'll go online and see what I can figure out. DH wants to use a coupon that requires we buy two entrees. I'm going to see if I can get a salad for less than an entrée, that would save at least as much as the coupon's worth. : )
I'm glad DD only has to handle one call at a time - can't imagine trying to juggle two or more. Haha. Still, I'm sure she was very busy.
I'm hoping step brother will surprise everyone and shape up, at least to help you finish the repairs, and to get his stuff out of your property. While taking it to Goodwill, or some other such 'fix' seems a bit harsh, I know you have to be very firm with him. Bless your heart. I hope that if step bro doesn't take care of things himself, that you and your DH can come up to a mutually agreeable solution.
Yes, painting the railings was time-consuming and hard; what with the bending and climbing up and down a step ladder. But at least now it's done, and it doesn't look like it needs a second coat. emoticon

Pat, I'm with Nancy - glad you have the good sense to wait until the temps aren't at their highest when you work outdoors, and taking advantage of the swimming pool. : )
Having lived down south for a number of years, I do understand taking whatever less-hot temps you can get. And Nancy had it right when she said you can laugh at us when we're experiencing below zero temps this winter. emoticon I do love living here (even tho I do complain sometimes) with our four seasons. And I've always been partial to Fall.

Lori, I don't know if you're getting online at all right now, but I want to extend my best wishes for a speedy recovery from whatever has you sick. Take really good care of you, and we'll talk with you when you'll well. We'll miss you in the meantime.
emoticon

I am enjoying my one school period a week at the hi school. I was actually helpful today, and felt really good about that. I already know what I'll be doing next week. There's a "lefty" who needs to learn how to crochet, and the teacher has trouble doing it left-handed. I told the student that we'll work on it next week, and since I'm a "righty" I'll have the student sit across from me so it 'mirrors' so she can follow along. I've heard that helps a righty teach a lefty.

Today, DH and I were with the 2nd graders for the first time this school year. [groan] Now I have to work extra hard to match 20 or so names with new faces/children. It's something that is SO HARD for me - adults or children. Oh well, the effort should be good for my brain. emoticon

Well, I need to get on to other things. Hopefully, I'll be able to check back on Sparks before bedtime.

emoticon Hey everybody!
I got a lot of walking and chores done yesterday! emoticon
I brought mom along for the walk and she complained the whole time so I left her sitting on a bench (I warned her beforehand & she wanted to tag-along emoticon )
Last night I started feeling terrible so I took some Nyquil and went to bed around 8 p.m.
I slept well but I still feel achy & dizzy so I may try Theraflu today if I feel like going to the store.
If you guys don`t see me online much the next few days just know that I`m trying to recover, I`ll be back asap and you all are always in my thoughts and prayers.. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Running late-long busy day but yes, we did get the shrubs purchased and this evening we got half of them planted before it got dark. Have to work later in the day because of the heat-still 91 today BUT looking for a cool down for the rest of the week-only in the high 80's! Ok, quit laughing, we will take what we can get down here. emoticon
After spending the morning deciding what to plant and getting them purchased and hauled back here and then unloading, we hit the pool for a couple of hours this afternoon. Hopefully I can get the other bed weeded tomorrow morning and maybe tomorrow evening we can plant the last of them. If so, then one more job off the to do list.

NJ - I enjoy eating at Longhorn and do t worry about healthy then. I do have a salad so thwt helps. My daughter works in a call center so being extra busy isn't as hard as it sounds. You can still only take one call at a time. I think it was worse on the customers, it meant a longer hold time. It is frustrating that step brother is back, but we can use the help on the duplex. His work pace is so slow and he takes frequent smoke breaks so it's a little irritating. I like to go in and get things done. I've threatened to take his stuff to the curb or to Goodwill but my husband frowns on that. He said he would make him haul it to our basement before step bro mentioned the storage unit. We'll see what happens. I don't envy you painting the railings. That is hard work!

Lori - I figured you lived South if 80 is cool.

Pat, my understanding is that Honey is going to be kept separated from the wild animals.
I thought the canopy wouldn't leak, either, but as I said, I've talked with DH and it's up to him as to what we do/don't do - as usual. I'll try to keep an eye on it when we use it in the rain, so we don't have any trouble like Vickie and Sonny did.
How nice to have friends join you for church. Good thing y'all avoided Eva, what with her being not well. It just doesn't pay to be 'friendly' when germs are involved.
So, did you and Vickie get the planting done today?

Thanks for the good thoughts re: Josh' win, Nancy. : ) I mis-spoke about next weekend. Josh has the 20th off, but Tyler has a soccer game in Gettysburg. Still, we plan to go to Longhorn for dinner that evening. It's been awhile since we went there, and I'm looking forward to ordering something healthy as well as delicious.
I'm sorry your DD had extra work due to the flooding that directly affected others. Fortunately, your DD was not.
What a shame step brother quit his job and seems to be up to his old habits. Since you've told him to get his stuff out of your house before your DD comes, I'd even consider putting his stuff in boxes and dropping it off if he doesn't take care of it himself. At least then you'd be rid of his stuff. Good luck.

Lori, I'm glad you're enjoying your less hot weather, and hope it continues. Like Nancy, I was taken aback for a minute when you described the 80's as cooler. But learning that you live in the south, I understand, having lived down south for several years myself. We've been at or near 70 degrees these past few days, and last night it got down to the upper 40's. emoticon Now THAT'S Fall. LOL
Ok, a body in a shallow grave with no casket? I sure hope the police figure out what happened, because it sounds to me like hiding a murder victim. Of course, you have to understand that I read murder mysteries. emoticon

DH and I gave a second coat of paint to some trim and the mailbox post, and gave a real good coat of paint to the front porch railing. That was a lot of work, since we have a long front porch with lots of railing. Took four hours altogether for all the painting. Next will be the front door and shutters, but won't start those until Friday, DH said. Maybe I can get him to agree to start Wednesday. Tomorrow, I spend 1st period at the hi school, and we finally get to go back to the 2nd gr class mid-day. (We've been waiting on the teacher, who was setting up the groups of kids and so on).

Lori - 80's for Fall weather? You must live some place warm. It's going to be in the 60's here. That would be creepy to find a body with no coffin.

NJ - I'm looking forward to seeing her again. I think the new job has more potential for growth than her current job. Your poor sister! I bet she never tried to get out of going to school again! I'm glad you were able to share the canopy. You would have looked a little silly sitting there by yourself! Congrats to Josh on the win! Longhorn is a good choice for dinner! Yum!

Pat - We're hoping she can stay a full week. They have proved two day so far and the other three and "wait listed". They have to be sure the phones are covered since she works in a call center. She will be working in a different department for the same company. She seems to like living there. She was indirectly affected by the flooding. She lived close enough to work to walk but other people had to call in so she was swamped at work. It's good that only your cousins yard was flooded and not the house. I'm glad you and Abbie were able to enjoy a nap and the storm didn't scare her too badly to sleep. I love Chinese food and always get get a second meal from the leftovers.

We spent the weekend working in rental property. Part of each day was spent at the duplex, and part at my childhood home. That one had a fence falling down that we had to replace four of the panels. Step brother is back at brother's house so we hired him to help. He had asked brother if he could stay there to recuperate after having back surgery. He showed up unexpectedly on Labor Day weekend. Brother was out of town and returned home to find step brother in his house! The surgery isn't even scheduled yet. He's been doing some work for our neighbors, but has apparently quit the job he had. He's promised to get his stuff out of our house before our daughter comes home. I hope that's not another lie.

Isn't it a shame that people do not spay and neuter. It is such a simple solution and would save so many animals because we would not have so many born. I feel sorry for the animals. Do hope Honey does well out there and doesn't become dinner for one of the "wild" critters.
Sorry the canopy started to leak. Don't think they are supposed to do that. However, too much rain can ruin them also because they fill up and then collapse (happened to Vickie and Sonny on one of our camping trips!).
We went to church this morning and had 2 other couples from our community join us and another lady so we took up the back pew! Afterwards we had dinner at V&S's. Had planned on their daughter and her family being there but Eva was not well so told them we didn't want to be around them. Bill & Sonny try to avoid sick people when it is known they are ill.
We played cards afterwards and the ladies won both games!! emoticon
Tomorrow Vickie & I plan to go buy the shrubs and get them planted in front of the clubhouse.

Hi, Lori. Hope your weekend weather is great.

Pat, Yes, the canopy was a good idea, until awhile after the rain started, the seams started leaking!! I've told DH, but I don't know what (if anything) he'll do about it.
I know DH and Abbie enjoyed your company, and appreciated that you modified your usual schedule to be with them.
Good luck with the park budget. I'm sure it's a handful. Great that y'all are on sound financial footing.
Mmmmm, love Chinese. Fantastic that y'all got food for two meals for the two of you for only $10. You're obviously living right. : )

Speaking of eating out....Josh has another 2 games next Saturday (or is it the week after??), but those are to be played in Gettysburg (about an hour's drive -- I think). So by the time the games are over and we get back near home, it'll be time for dinner. DH talked about Longhorn Steakhouse for dinner. Sounds good to me - I wouldn't have to cook. Hahaha!

Dare I say it? I think I've lost another pound this week - but I'm not posting it until I can get that same reading tomorrow. I informed DH of the (apparent) loss and while I can lose a few pounds before the wedding next Spring, if I lose very many, I'll have to buy another dress. Sigh. But I'll make that "sacrifice" [Giggle, giggle]

I'm being lazy today, but have already decided that I'm going to do housework tomorrow, especially since I'll be at the hi school in the morning Tuesday, then DH and I will finally get to go back to the 2nd gr room mid-day.

You may recall I mentioned some time ago that 3 groups of people finally cornered a dog that had been running loose, and our shelter got her. She gave birth a week or so later. Well, the (5) pups are darling, and 2 or 3 of them have already been adopted. Mom, Honey, had been on the loose for 5 years, they figure, and she never warmed up to people at our shelter, so last Thursday they took her a few hr's drive north of us to a preserve, where they are building her a shelter. This preserve is where State Police (and others, I imagine) take coyotes, wolves, wild dogs, and various other animals that were caught in populated areas. I'm not sure why they wouldn't just take the coyotes and wolves to the mountains to be turned loose, but hey, I don't make the rules. Anyway, Miss Honey now has a 'forever home'. Still, I feel bad for her - I wouldn't wish that life on any dog. To me, dogs should have homes with people, but obviously Honey can't handle that.

While at our shelter, she had been in first one then another isolation kennel, but she broke out of both, ruining them in the process. Now that she's gone, the shelter has gotten four 'new' dogs to go with the 4 or so they already had when Honey came.

Y'all have a great start to the week.

NJ glad you had the canopy but sorry the 2nd game got rained out. So happy you had help with it too. I know how hard putting one up and taking it down can be. Yeah for Josh's team for the win.
I got in an abbreviated walk this morning as Sonny didn't walk so I ended up walking with DH & Abbie. They don't walk nearly as far as I normally do so I accommodated them. After breakfast we enjoyed the Florida room for a couple of hours. DH napped and I read the newspaper and worked on the budget. I am on the finance committee so working on my recommendation for the budget for the coming year. I have gone over things line by line and making my notes and will put my thoughts down and when we have the meeting will be ready to hammer things out. We are lucky to be on sound financial footing and want to keep it that way.
Vickie and I went to the pool for a couple of hours after that and then took our hubbies to the little take out Chinese restaurant. They serve way too much even on the lunch menu. We had enough left for supper and it only cost $10 for the 2 of us.

Pat, I'm glad the flood waters didn't go into your cousin's house......the backyard is bad enough.
I'm happy for you that the weather so nice yesterday morning for your walk. Too bad about the clippers, I hope you can find a decent pair for not much money.
Wow! When you do "Spring cleaning" (whatever time of year), you do a whiz-bang job. Good for you. I'm sure the office appreciates having the legal paper, however much or little it may be.
So, your loss (not being able to go to the pool) was Abbie's gain (having you to love on her during the storm). : ) I'll bet she enjoyed the nap with you as much as you did.

DH and I went to Josh's baseball game today, but after about 45 min he left with DD and Tyler to go to T's soccer game. DH had thoughtfully brought the canopy, and left it for me. I was ever so grateful. The father of another player helped with the canopy, and shared it with me, which is fine - I would have felt stupid with an 8 x 10 canopy and just me. : )

Josh was to play 2 games today (same teams), so the first game was to only be 6 innings. The second one, 7 innings. About the 5th inning, it started raining; but they played the game out. Josh's team won 6-1. They were to break for 30 minutes between games, but the second game was called due to water ponding on the dirt part of the field.

The man who shared the canopy with me insisted on helping me take it down - I don't think I could have done it alone. He also insisted on carrying it to the car. I was so thankful.

When I got home, I managed to get it to the basement, and opened things up as much as I could so it could start drying.

So that was part of my Saturday. emoticon I plan to knit before I have to start dinner. I haven't completed much knitting this week (the Stash-Busting team goes from Mon - Sun), so I'd better get on with it.

I hope you all have a very nice weekend.

Nancy how wonderful that DD has gotten another job and you will be able to bring her home for a visit. Will she get to stay for a week or will it be shorter? Is she still with the same company but a different position? How does she like it in Phoenix? Was she affected by the flooding out there? I have a cousin who lives in Glendale and he said his back yard was flooded but thankfully not the house!
NJ wishing you a wonderful weekend too.
It was quite pleasant when I walked this morning-a brisk breeze was blowing in from the north so made it feel nice and cool even though it was still 75 as it has been most mornings. The lake had little whitecaps on it instead of looking like a sheet of glass.
I did some weeding up front and then home to give Bill a haircut. I also trimmed the pads on Abbie's feet and was going to do more but the free clippers were not working just the touch up ones! emoticon I guess I am still going to have to purchase my very own clippers to do her hair.
I cleaned out most of my computer cabinet. I hang onto way too much paperwork-articles I think I will want, print off things from the internet, etc. Now very little paper in there. I even had a handful of legal paper that will not work in my new printer so it is going to be donated to the office!
I had planned on going to the pool this afternoon but a thunderstorm struck about 2:15 so no pool today. I ended up going to sleep instead. Abbie and I cuddled up together and had a nice nap.
Luckily I had leftover so supper was a snap.

Nancy, emoticon How wonderful that you're flying your daughter home! And good for her for getting a new job. I hope y'all have a really great visit.
I'm glad you're having cooler weather. So are we, at least for a few days; and I'll take what I can get. : )

Pat, I don't remember anyone from my childhood that got ringworm, but one of my sisters got Impetigo and we had to avoid her! Also, another of my sisters (in about the 3rd gr) deliberately rubbed poison sumac all over her arms, face and neck because she didn't want to go to school. Well, she got her wish and a whole lot more!
I have to say, I'd far rather have a dry heat than less heat but lots of humidity. I hope your humidity lightens up some. Good luck with all the Fall planting and decorating. It sounds like you've gotten a good start on that by checking out prices at a couple of places.
I like finding never-worn clothes at the thrift store. Such a savings! Good for Bill.

Have a super weekend, y'all.

Pat - I'm happy too! And even happier because we are working on flying our daughter home for a visit. She got a new job and won't be able to come home for Christmas this year. We're bringing here home to see everyone and we'll probably go out there for the Holidays. Sorry you're having such humid, icky weather. It cooled off here last night. I hope you get a break in the humidity so you can get your fall planting and decorating done.

Nancy so happy that things have fallen into place and that by this time next week it will all be behind you. So much worry and work all summer but prayers have been answered. Enjoy the fall and winter!!
NJ I am happy that the students are being respectful to you and as Nancy said, there must be some interest if they are asking questions. So sorry that the kittens have developed ringworm but hopefully soon they will all be well again. I remember my cousin getting it when we were kids. We all avoided her like the plague!
Walked this morning but it was already muggy out-not hot-only about 76 but very sticky. When I got done, I did some chores at home, ate breakfast, etc and then headed to the pool about 10:30. Vicky & I had it to ourselves so stayed till around noon. We decided to go to another nursery near The Villages to check out what they had to offer-WOW, their prices were much more expensive than what we can get the same thing for down here so guess next week we will be taking the park's truck and heading to get the new plants and get them into the ground! Time to get this project taken care of. Halloween and fall decorating is also calling. Hubbies rode along and after checking things out, we ate a late lunch at Sweet Tomato. Stopped at the thrift store that support the local hospital and found a Columbia shirt for DH. I don't think it was ever worn.

NJ - I'm glad the high schoolers treat you with respect. If they're asking questions then they must be interested in what you are teaching them. We didn't get any severe weather but it did rain most of the day. It's quite a bit cooler here today too.

What good news, Nancy. Another step closer to done. Woo-Hoo for having a closing date!
It's still early in the school year, but the high schoolers are fine so far. It's first period, and some of them drag into class looking like they're still asleep. But so far, they're respectful, and aren't afraid to ask questions. That's a plus.
I hope you haven't gotten severe weather. Some rain is good, depending on how much, but severe storms? Thanks but let's send those to the South Pole. LOL

Pat, it's sad that you'll be saying 'good-bye' to Gary and Margaret soon. I hope they'll be able to come back to FL to visit once in awhile.
Dear me. Bill's poor son; but it's good news on that front, so I'll thank the Lord for that, and keep Bill's son in prayer for the second surgery.
Nine for breakfast.....I'll bet that made for even more fun chatting (and eating, of course). In the weeks ahead you'll be adding to your number and fun.
Oh, I do pray that Bill's new medicine will be something you can get help with financially. What a shame that there are medicines we need for a good quality of life, but we can hardly afford them and to eat too. Hopefully the dr's office will be helpful.

Lori, I think we're under the same weather conditions you are. Today is to be in the mid-80's but starting tomorrow for several days, they're expecting the mid-70's. Woo-Hoo for that!

"My" kitties are still quarantined, but no more went downstairs and a couple more DID come back upstairs to me. There are still four in the basement that are to come back to me as they heal. Ringworm is such a pain in the neck, the back, the leg, the.......you get the idea. Since I was wearing a long-sleeved shirt (as long as they are quarantined), I picked up a couple and petted them, but wouldn't let them touch my skin. I'm SO looking forward to being able to wear a short sleeved shirt again. The kitten room is hot on a good day, all year around, so having to wear long sleeves makes it that much more miserable. : P

Y'all have a great day.

Pat - I'm glad things went well for you at the doctor. It's nice that they are working with you to figure out a way to get help payout for the meds.

We got the call last night that closing is scheduled for next Wednesday! My husband will be in town so it works perfect. It's going to be so nice to have that over with.

Things went well at the dr. Today he actually took time to talk to us! We were ready to try to find another one if he didn't spend some time today-guess he got that memo from our thoughts!! He is wanting to put Bill on another medicine as he can't stay on what he is on indefinitely. He is being stepped down for the next 4 weeks and then the final step down for the following 4 weeks till he is off it At that time he will have to go on a different medicine and his staff is going to see which meds his Part D will cover and see about getting some financial assistance for us. Will see what happens from here.

Pat - I have a self cleaning oven so I just push a button and it cleans itself. I do have to wipe it out when it's done, but much easier than scrubbing! I don't envy your friends for moving either. We moved two years ago and then moved our daughter last year. I've had my fill of it for a long time! I hope the surgery helps Bill's son and that Bill has a good check up today.

We are all on the same wavelength about having order in our lives it seems. Now, NJ I could ignore that dirty oven for months!! I keep a sheet of aluminum foil in the bottom to catch drips, so much easier to pitch it than to scrub it- emoticon Someone once told me you should keep your home like you would as if you were selling it then it would always be "shipshape". That is probably good advice and I do always keep it picked up but if I were selling it, might do an even deeper cleaning but good enough works for me.
We had 9 this morning for breakfast. I imagine the number will continue to grow every week. This will be the last time for Gary & Margaret as they hope to have everything packed and will load up either a U-Haul trailer or truck on Tues and leave for OK next Wed as she has to be back to work the following Mon. I am glad it is them getting ready to move as I certainly do not want to think about it. Seems like they just moved here-it was not quite 2 yrs ago! She is overjoyed about going back to work full time so if it makes her happy, I am happy for her.
Bill's son had surgery this morning and we just got the call that he is ok and in recovery. He had 100% blockage in one nostril and 90% in the other-full of polyps. He has more surgery scheduled for next week now that the nasal cavity is cleaned out, the dr will do a balloon procedure to clear things out further up in there. Dr told his wife he should notice an immediate improvement in his breathing. He also suffers from sleep apnea and hasn't been able to use the machine in ages so hopefully this will make a big difference in his quality of life.
Bill sees his gastro doc this afternoon so will see what he has to say about how he is doing. Not sure if any changes will be made. Have noticed his face is swollen and that is a side effect of the medicine so....who knows what will happen. If we get home early enough, plan to go to the pool if rain isn't eminent.

Pat - I'm excited too! Our realtor emailed me to let me know the septic passed and they are waiting on the water. We are in track for closing Monday! My house isn't spotless, but it's pretty clean. It drives me crazy if I skip a week of cleaning. I can't imagine never cleaning! It sounds like you have another productive day yesterday. I'm glad you are taking time to relax and enjoy your pool. I know you'll miss your friends, but it's nice that they will be closer to family. I definitely don't want to be working at age 77!

NJ - I think it would be more fun to work with second graders than high school kids. I'm with you in he clutter. I like things in their place.i can't even look at one of my co-workers desk. It is covered with papers and stuff. It makes me crazy!

Today would have been a good sleeping in day here. It's raining and is supposed to for most of the day. We have a chance for some severe storms this afternoon. A cold front is on the way.

Nancy, I DO enjoy working in this particular class at the high school. But I still enjoy working with the 2nd graders, too. (We resume that next week). I'm still quite excited for you that the house is about to go to closing. What a relief it will be to have that completed.

I had a friend (she succumbed to pancreatic cancer a year ago) who was a hoarder. I cringed every time I went to her house, which became more often until she went into a nursing home. There was a skinny little path from the front door, through the kitchen and dining room into the living room. Each of those rooms were piled high with STUFF. Just like the dirty people, I can not understand how anyone can live as a hoarder.

My Mom was a Mrs. Clean, but not so me. I don't like dirt, but I can go a long time before cleaning my oven, for example, whereas I'm sure my Mom had a frequent schedule for doing that. I do, however, like to have a place for everything and manage to get everything in its place now and then. Haha Too much clutter drives me nuttier than I already am.

I'm so happy I have time to volunteer now that I'm retired. I only go to each place (to volunteer) once a week for a few hours, so it's nothing like a job; and I enjoy all the things I do. Pat, you also know how rewarding volunteering is with your work on the park's gardens. I do hope people stop and let you know how much they appreciate you, because you are literally beautifying your environs. As I've mentioned before, I think it's great that you have Vicky to help you, and to keep you company as you two work.

I saw some of the Harvest Moon last night - probably should have stood outside and watched it a bit longer - I think a Harvest Moon is beautiful and inspiring. It's great that you got pool time today after that hot work.

I'm so sorry your friends are moving back to OK, I know you'll miss them. But you are so right - we each have to do and go where we need to be.

DH came to me this afternoon and said that if I "lobby softly enough" he'd take me to dinner. So I whispered, "Lobby, lobby, lobby" - apparently that was good enough. emoticon we enjoyed dinner at Chili's. I even stayed within my calories for the day. Hip, hip, hooray!

I finally took myself in hand and did my ironing after we got home this eve. It's done, until DH does the laundry on Friday. emoticon

I get to sleep in tomorrow! Yea!! I didn't realize when I volunteered to work at the high school that I'd have to get up between 5:30 and 6:00 - closer to the first than the second. I never have been a happy early morning person.

Amen to that-every time I see on tv when they show a home where the people going in have to wear a mask I wonder how they lived in such squalor. I am not perfectly clean where I would tell someone to eat off my floors, but I would not worry about it much either!
I guess it takes all kinds to make a world.
Lori hope you had a terrific Tuesday.
Nancy I am so excited for you. Hopefully by the end of next week that will be one less worry on your plate. I am sure that will be a big relief.
NJ it is so nice that you enjoy volunteering and that they appreciate you. I do not know what would happen in this country if everyone quit volunteering-it is something that can't be measured but adds so much value in so many ways in the areas we live. I am always thankful for those who volunteer and try to tell them so they know it is appreciated. I know how a thank you or a word of how nice things look in here make me want to be sure it always looks nice!
I got to see a bit of the Harvest Moon this morning as I started my walk but it was quickly covered by clouds. Met up with Vicky & we decided to work in the park gardens so from a few minutes after 8 until 10 and got quite a lot accomplished. We were both hot and feeling a bit sore so decided a nice dip in the pool was in order. We both headed home to clean up and get our suits on and met at the pool a little after 10 and enjoyed it till noon. I had an appt., with our financial adviser at 2 and he called Bill and asked if we were available early as someone had cancelled so I came home and quickly got a shower and had just gotten dressed when he arrived. He was on his way by 1 and we finally got lunch. Our friends got back from OK last night and they came over this afternoon to tell us they have decided to move back there to be closer to family and she is going back to work full time (she is 77!). Hate to see them go but we each have to go where we are happy. They just bought down here in Jan 2013.
NJ I never did get the last couple of items ironed today so maybe tomorrow. emoticon

Pat, I'd like to say that I did my bit of ironing yesterday, but I didn't. emoticon I want a nap right now, but maybe I'll be able to force myself to do the dreaded "I" later.
emoticon for getting the hutch in hand. I know how easy it is to hang on to stuff thinking we might need it again.
Mmmmm, a garlic knot sounds really good about now.

Lori, Thank you, and I hope YOU have a great day. Now that they've changed the START page, I'm not sure how to get points awarded to the team. What do you do?

Nancy, the story I mentioned wasn't even a rental - the houses were for sale, not rent. When the family moved out in the middle of the night to avoid their creditors, the bank took several dump truck loads of trash, carpeting and pad, etc. Seems the esteemed family allowed at their dogs (if not their children) to piddle on the carpets. YUK! Can you imagine living like that??!!! How could they ever clean up that place to sell it again?!
How nice that your DH is only gone one night this week.
Praise the Lord that your daughter's house passed inspection and appraisal. Hopefully the well and septic inspections can be done quickly and you can go to closure on the 15th with no hitches. God is so good.

I went to school today to watch the teacher demonstrate how to thread the Bernina sewing machine. I've only used Singer machines myself, and there are several steps in threading the Bernina. I stayed to help a couple of students thread theirs, but needed to get home. Besides, I was there all first period yesterday. I plan to go on Tuesdays normally, but as I told the teacher this morning, I have a dental (cleaning) on the 23rd. She is so grateful for my help, and makes sure to tell me so each day I go. Nice to be appreciated, but that's not I volunteer for. I just like to help out, and the Family and Consumer Finance (FCF) class should be fun for me.

emoticon everyone.

Pat - He suffers from IBS. We can't figure out what triggers it, it just happens from time to time. He's was doing getter last night. I'm glad it was cooler for you. I need to do so e weedi go too.it's been couple of weeks and they are taking over again. It won't be too much longer before I don't have to worry about that.

NJ - I've seen some horrible messes left in rentals. My in-laws used to own some and we helped with the clean-up. Some of it would turn my stomach. We've been pretty lucky so far. I can never make my hair do what he stylist does either. I pretty much wash men, come it out and let it do it's own thing. Much easier and less frustrating for me! I had to laugh at your story about freezing potato chips. My mom used to freeze everything, but I do t think she ever froze chips.

Lori - Enjoy your day too!

My husband is only gone one night this week! He went to Chicago yesterday and will be home tonight. His training is close enough for the rest of the week that he can come home each night. Yay! I got most of the cleaning done last night and this morning. I just have to do our bedroom, bathroom, and floors tonight. We are close to having our daughter's house sold! It passed the home inspection and appraisal. The bank wants a well and septic inspection done and to close on the 15th. It will be nice to have that done.

NJ You just had to remind me I also have ironing I need to do. DH did a load of laundry this morning and now, more ironing! If I keep up with it, there isn't much, but let it build up and it seems like I will never get it done.
I have been working on the last area of the hutch that I needed to clean out. It is almost done. I have notebooks and organizing my files for the finance committee in them. I didn't keep anything but the final report of prior years as I felt it was just a lot of extra paperwork I didn't need as others have it if I need to go back and look at something specific so now have a huge pile of paperwork to get rid of!!
Dinner is simmering so it will be ready for us by 5. I made the unstuffed cabbage rolls and thinking what else I can add to it. Trying to avoid a lot of carbs but thinking a nice garlic knot would be the little something that would make it complete.

Hi Pat. Yes, the boys' games do keep us busy, and you are SO RIGHT that I'll be looking for that sun before long, just to stay warm. Haha We've had an experience similar to yours - get there and it's warm, by the time the game's over, you're relieved that you can sit in the car to warm up. : )

I'm so glad for you that it was cooler this morning. Wow! You sure keep busy just with the gardens, even if you didn't do anything else. I'm sure it all looks beautiful.

How disgusting to open 'fresh' bread that turns out to be moldy. I hate it when I buy any food that goes bad before I have a chance to use it. We freeze a lot of stuff right after a shopping trip, then pull it out as we need it. That helps, but I know many people either don't have the freezer space, or just don't like to do that. Besides, there are some things you just can't freeze.

The joke in my family is that a couple of us girls' families were visiting the folks and at lunchtime my Mom went to her freezer and pulled out a Tupperware full of potato chips. Yes, they WERE still fresh and crispy. She was also known to freeze jello - but frankly, that didn't work too well. emoticon

After being at school this morning, I weeded, and I'm hoping it begins to cool down enough that I won't have as many of those nasty things to deal with. : )

Have a great week.

Nancy, you have my sympathies about maintaining more homes than you live in. Having seen the MESS our next door neighbors left things in (at least 40 years ago), I decided long ago that I didn't want to rent. But KUDOS to you who do.
So sorry your DH had tummy trouble yesterday and hope he's all better now. Good luck with finishing the repairs.
We haven't been to the fair in years; in fact, it was the year Alabama took their last tour, so I really, really enjoyed myself.

Lori, all that walking DEFINITELY burned off a lot of calories. Eating the naughty food is a one-time occurrence, not an every day thing, so enjoy on those very rare times you do eat it. I eat naughty food sometimes. Like last week when we went to a luncheon, and were served a (thin) slice of chocolate layer cake with decadent chocolate frosting. I enjoyed it with no sense of guilt.

I volunteered at the high school this morning, and because I needed to help a particular student with his project (yes, 2 boys in the class), I was unable to watch the demonstration of the Bernina sewing machine. The teacher will be repeating the demonstration tomorrow, so I'll go the school again.

When I got my hair cut today, I let the stylist do as she wished with the style. I like what she did, but have zero hope of repeating it myself. Haha. She used a curling iron and made some beautiful banana curls in the back.

Ironing is calling my name, but I'm trying to ignore it. Guess I will get to it in a bit.

Lori I have heard from several other Sparkers that they have been attending fairs also. The fairs down here don't happen until later in the year due to the heat. I haven't attended a fair in many a year. However, just the thought of funnel cake makes my mouth water.

NJ sorry to hear DH got to feeling bad. Hopefully it was just a short term thing. I have to check with the dr to see about getting my flu shot soon. Like to get it by early Oct. Hopefully you can finish up with the duplex next weekend and then relax for a bit.

Nancy it sounds like the boys games are going to keep you very busy. Glad you are able to split up. I do know how hot it can be sitting and watching those games. I remember one time we were at GD's soccer game and it was fairly warm when we got there but a cold front went thru and we nearly froze by the time we left as we weren't dressed for the cold weather!!! Likely before long you will be glad to see the sunshine to warm you up.

It was a bit cooler this morning-74-so after my walk I decided I should get back to working in the park gardens. It is a never ending battle to stay ahead of the weeds and to keep the roses deadheaded! I did one section of the gardens along our fence in front of our water treatment plant (about 1/2 of it) and then deadheaded 2 rosebeds and weeded there. By then, I was dripping so called it a day.
I was a bit upset last week as I bought bread and just a couple days later it was moldy so I had to pitch it. Therefore I decided to head to W-Mart early to get more bread and I was out of my Greek yogurt. I ended up getting a smaller pork loin that I will fix for tomorrow's dinner. I already had planned a cabbage casserole for supper today. I am still trying to figure out exactly what foods agree or don't agree with DH.
Going to finish up my hutch this afternoon. What a relief that will be to have that cleaned out!
Hopefully I will also clean out my computer cabinet this week. Slowly but surely I am purging things!!

emoticon We had a busy & fun weekend! Saturday we went to the fair. I ate so much deliciously naughty food but hopefully all the walking burned off some of those calories!

Today was non-stop as well. We still managed to grill out this evening. My oldest sister spent the week end with us.

I am blessed! God is good! emoticon emoticon

Pat - I'm complaining about the duplex now, but we really have been fortunate. We bought it in 2008 and haven't had that many problems. We did replace a water heater and one furnace. We're lucky we haven't had to replace two of everything since it's a duplex! I am looking forward to selling though. I hope you get some cooler weather. It cooled off here this weekend and we're supposed to have a major cold front go through mid-week.

NJ - As I told Pat (above) thing could really be worse with the duplex. I'm glad your foot is feeling better and hope it continues. Sorry it was so hot at the game, but it sounds like you really enjoyed it. It's wonderful that you get to spend so much time with the boys.

Today turned out to be a lazy day. We slept in and relaxed after breakfast. I helped my husband with some of his office work then we went to town to get supplies for the duplex. Hubby started to have tummy trouble so we came home. I called our tenant to,let her know we wouldn't be able to make it today. She is very understanding and said as long as they can use the tub she's fine. They just can't take showers until we get the drywall painted. We should
Beagle to finish it next weekend.

emoticon Pat, looks like you and I posted at the same time. I'm glad you feel 88 is cooler - we feel that's just plain HOT! emoticon We're supposed to get more Fall-like temps than we had yesterday. I sure hope so.

Oh, I didn't mention, Michelle and I huddled under our umbrellas (mine was golf-size) during the game, and told ourselves it helped with the heat.

Nancy, I'm glad it was just a check up at the eye doctor, but sorry you have glaucoma. Glad your dr is keeping a close eye on it. (pun unintended)
I agree with Pat - you really should enjoy your work - you spend so much time there that being unhappy/miserable is an awful thing.
Doesn't it just seem like 'when it rains it pours' with your duplex? Sorry you have to replace the tub. I hope you're able to sell both properties, soon and for good prices.

Lori, I didn't realize the Dollar Tree has frozen stuff. I don't think we have a Dollar TREE here, but do have a Dollar Store.....not the same, but the same idea.

Pat, while my foot is significantly better, it's not all well yet - still, progress is progress. I understand about nail fungus. I seem to have picked up one (or something like it) when I got a manicure years ago. Funny thing is, though, I returns every summer, but I get rid of it by a strange method my sister told me about. Cut the nails short, coat on top and underneath them with Vicks (I use store brand) and put white cotton gloves on. Should be done overnight, and for at least one hour during the day; but I forget to do the daytime dose often, so it takes longer to get rid of whatever it is. It goes away, then comes back the next summer. Strange............

Pat, y'all found some great deals the other day. Poor Abbie, first she's terrified of thunder, then she had to put up with another dog that demands a lot of attention. So glad the s-i-l took over dog sitting duties.

Friday I went to the hi school, to the Family and Consumer Finance (read, home ec) class. I'm going back tomorrow, then Tuesday mornings. The class I'll be helping in meets 7:35 - 9:00. I'll still be able to make our mid-day Tues work with the 2nd gr class, once the teacher lets us know when she wants us to start helping.

Saturday Josh had two games, and DH attended which I went with Michelle to Tyler's soccer game. The sun was bright and the humidity was waaaaay up there - the temp was in the upper 80's during the games, and got to 91 by 4:00 p.m. We spectators about died, and the kids? Fortunately they were urged to drink, drink, drink water. Tyler's team lost, badly, but he sure enjoyed himself and I found something positive to say to him on the way home. Josh's team won both their games.

DH and I will be trading which games we go to whenever they overlap. I'm looking forward to Josh's games, and even to more of Tyler's games.

Golly, I sure hope what I hear is firecrackers, because if not, someone is shooting one or more guns - lots of shots. Don't think I'll let Darby out right now.

Y'all have a great week.

Oh Nancy so sorry you have more problems. That is one reason we no longer own anything other than what we live in! Seems it is always something going wrong. I do hope this is the last of it and still praying that you can sell that house.
We were a bit cooler today-high of 88. What a refreshing change. Won't last but will enjoy every day we can.

We've been busy with rental property again. We thought we had fixed a crack in the tub at the duplex. Our tenant called Thursday to let us know it was leaking. We drove over and sprayed it with some rubber paint to seal it until we could replace it. My husband and his brother worked on it Friday and we were back yesterday. We still have to finish the drywall work above the tub, but at least they can bathe. We really need to sell the duplex and the other house we own. we're getting tired of working on them.

Nancy sounds like it is time for a change. One truly needs to enjoy their job as you spend a big part of your life there. However, I also understand in this day and age if one has a job you want to hang onto it too. Hope you enjoyed your walk.

NJ hope your foot is feeling better. I want to go get zapped on my toenails when we get out shower paid off-just 2 more payments and we can say it is ours! I was to get it done this summer, but DH needed new teeth so.....this isn't life or death, but my toenails need help!!! Think I got the fungus years ago when I did water aerobics and over time it has gotten worse and now 2 nails are so think they have to be filed down on top.

Went to breakfast this morning with Vicky & Sonny and then to the big farmer's market in a town near us. I got some beautiful tomatoes and picked up 2 new brims to wear when working out in the park. They are $1 there so I don't mind replacing them every so often as I sweat a lot so they get to looking pretty yukky.
Afterwards we stopped at a couple of thrift stores and found an Eddie Bauer shirt for DH. Last stop was at the bank and finally home about 1!
We are dog sitting for a couple of hours. Another Abbie! We were going to keep her for 2 weeks but now their s-I-l is going to stay and keep her. Probably not a bad thing as she is a needy little thing. She is also a shih-Tzu but an Imperial so very tiny-about 6-7 lbs. Our Abbie is about 15. They get along fine but our Abbie might get jealous over time with the other one sitting on her daddy's lap!

emoticon Hey everybody!

I just came from the Dollar Tree. I just love that store! I get most of my frozen fruit for my smoothies there.

Pat - Thanks for the prayers, I really do appreciate it. It is definitely time for a job change. I'm feeling overwhelmed and I just don't like what I'm doing. I'm glad you got to enjoy the pool.

NJ - The appointment was my regular checkup for new contacts. I do used to go back, when I went last year she saw signs of glaucoma and wants to check it out. I was being watched by my old doc too. I think I just have a high risk so she wants to watch it. I do hope the shot helps, foot pain is no fun.

I am about ready to take a break from work and go for a walk. I'm feeling overwhelmed so it will be good to get away.

Well, that sounds like you get a chance with each as they come, rather than all at once. : )

'Tis funny - in our house, I'M the gregarious one. My DH would rather sit in a corner in a group, and just people watch. But he says I never met anyone I couldn't strike up a conversation with. He must be right - I talk to strangers all the time. Who knows, you might meet a friend. emoticon

Most of the snowbirds start winging their way south in late Oct to the end of Nov. A few will be coming back in Sept but not very many and there are some who wait till after Thanksgiving and a very few who come right after Christmas. Our close friends will be coming in at various times-one couple likely mid week next week, another the 1st wk of Oct and another in mid Oct. Of course, there are others we are friends with but not as close. My DH is very outgoing so make a lot a friends!

Nancy, it's great that you got to spend more time with DH. I hope the eye dr appt was just a regular check up and not a problem. I'm praying for you, too, that something great comes from the interviews you go on. Good job trying to keep the job stress down, whether it's your current job, or getting a new one. Yes, I was amazed that DD didn't break anything when the cast iron griddle hit her foot. It's bruised and still swollen, but she should recover ok. She wears a 'shoe' or 'boot' for now.

Thank you for prayers and good thoughts towards me this morning. Actually, we were home less than 2 hours after the shot before we needed to leave for a lunch meeting where someone tried to persuade a room full of us to buy into their senior living place. What we learned made us realize that particular place isn't for us. Oh well, had a nice lunch, with
chocolate layer cake for dessert that made the whole thing worth going to. LOL

Thank you, Pat, for praying I only need the one shot. I have plantar fasciitis. I did exercises for a month, and the pain receded slightly, so the dr told me to do another month and come back. Well, that second month was August, and I don't feel exercise did ANYthing about the pain. Consequently, I needed the shot today. I iced it some today, per the dr.

It turns out that the knitting/crocheting unit is about over at the school (that went quickly) but now they are hand stitching pin cushions. I've been sewing a lot longer than knitting and crocheting, so I still have something to offer. :D I look forward to seeing how I can help this school year. Still waiting to hear from the 2nd gr teacher as to the date she wants us to start.

Good for you being able to spend some quality time in the swimming pool. When do the snowbirds usually come? I imagine they don't all show up on the same day. I know you've mentioned having friends among them, so have a happy reunion with them.

Nancy happy to hear you had some relaxation-you certainly needed it after the summer you have had. Sounds great. I hope that something pans out from your interviews. Will be saying prayers that something comes of all this. Thank you for the nice comment on my community. I am hoping we can push some of the work onto the maint. men. Will see how that goes. We will still have to do the planting and weeding but hoping to get them to do more pruning and spraying.
NJ Oh I hurt for you just hearing about that shot. Praying that you only need the one. What was the shot for? How nice that you are going to volunteer to teach your skill to that class. I am sure the teacher will appreciate it.
It has been another hot one but still got in my walk. Vicky & I went to Aldi's this morning and this afternoon I spent almost 2 hours in the pool. Figure I need to get it in now before the snowbirds return! It is nice to feel we have our own private pool.
Gotta go fix dinner and then I can Spark some more.
Pat
