Nancy that is rude of your D-I-L. I always used to solve that problem early on by telling the kids that I would do the cooking but they could do the cleanup! Didn't always work but if one would start, the others would seem to fall in! I don't blame you for being aggravated.
One of my D-I-L's invited me to come make cookies with the grandkids. I brought everything and we got started but they were young enough they were soon bored and here I was doing all the baking ALONE. She had left while I was entertaining the kids and my son had to take care of them while I finished it all up. Never did I fall for that one again! At least I left her the mess to clean up!!!!! (It was at her house!)
NJ I love the 4 seasons but I lived with them for over 50 years so I don't really mind not being there for the cold and snow (In fact don't think I could handle it anymore!). We did enjoy going to the Smoky Mtns in 2013 and got to see the fall colors. We do get some changing of the colors down here but nothing great.
Lori so happy Princess was able to come and greet you. That must mean her chain has been either removed or at least fixed so she can move around more. I do hope they monitor things and if things get bad again I hope you will call again.
I walked about 7 am today and by 9 I was busy working in the park gardens. I got quite a bit done and hauled off my 3 cans 3 times and by 11:15 I decided to call it a day. However, then I cam home and worked in my yard for another 30 min and by then I was ready to sit for a bit. I fixed us a BLT with the fresh tomatoes we got yesterday at the flea market. Then I did some paperwork and watched the noon news before heading to the pool. I enjoyed it as I had not been there for a couple of weeks. I got to try out my new to me water weights and if I continue to use they regularly I will get some great arm muscles!!! 50 cents for the pair and one lady said she paid $25 for a new set. Yep, love those thrift stores and yard sales.

NJ - It took me over an hour to get through email yesterday and then another 1/2 day to act on the emails! I'm finally caught up today. I was irritated about the lack of help, to say the least. I think this will be the last time I invite them to dinner. They didn't even respond to the i vote until prompted my my husband. It's always such an ordeal to get them to come. My husband had actually told my son before that we won't invite them because they rarely show up, but they are welcome any time, we are usually around. Congrats to Josh and his team on the wins! I hope the weather is better next week. I don't blame you for not wanting to be at school at 7:30. When I retire I want to b able to sleep until I'm ready to get up and not use a alarm clock.

Pat - I'm glad you're having better weather. I'm sure your Winters sure much nicer than ours. That's the reason my husband wants to live in Arizona during the winter and some where cooler during the summer, I do t know of we'll keep our current house or spend the summers somewhere else. He had also talked about Tennessee. But, he often says things and then doesn't follow through so I will wait to see what happens. I hope the man from church is okay. That's scary.

Lorie - I hope that Animal Control gave the people a stern talking to and that Princess is going to be okay. I'd keep an eye on her if I were you.

Yesterday was a rough first day back to work. I got so used to staying up late during vacation that I didn't sleep well at all Sunday night. I was still awake at 2:30 and have to get up at 5:30. Needless to say, yesterday was a very long day. I slept much better last night. I had planned to get up early but slept until 5:30. I think my husband is only gone one night this week. I really like it when he has short travel weeks!

Pat, thanks so much for the advice. I appreciate it very much and will try the 'take it out of the pot....'.
I'm glad you're having awesome weather. Ours really isn't bad for this time of year - just waaay too windy over the weekend when we sat outdoors. : )
Oh-oh! I hope that man at church doesn't have any lasting negative effects from his collapsing.
emoticon You ladies are obviously good at playing Hand and Foot. Congratulations.
What a nice-sounding afternoon.
I'm not real familiar with thrift stores (DH doesn't like to go) but I've been told you can get some very nice stuff for a good price, and your experiences prove that. Great that Ruthie could get so much for their home.

How nice that Princess was able to run up to you. I do hope animal control HAS been out, as that would open a file on her and how she's being treated.
Your weather sounds great, too. I'm tempted to move back South when our temps dip a lot, but it won't happen. I like four distinct seasons too much. emoticon I like the snow, unless it gets real deep or never goes away, like this past winter. emoticon

Yesterday I received an email from the hi school teacher I've been helping. The (beginning) Textile Arts class was only for the first marking period, which ends tomorrow, so I'm done for now. She's invited me back for the advanced group, which starts in mid-January. I think I'll do that, especially since they don't meet until almost 10:00 instead of 7:30. Lazy bug that I am, I won't have to get up so early. Ha!

I was busy today: helping one student with knitting (she had dropped a stitch), and a few others with crocheting. Their projects all were due today.

I hope you all have a great day!

emoticon Hi everybody!

I hope everyone is doing well. emoticon
The weather here has been FABULOUS! emoticon (mid to high 70`s) but it`s supposed to get cooler this weekend.

When I went to my parent`s house today, guess who ran up to me?
Princess! I guess Animal Control either never showed up or they decided to let her stay there. I`m not sure how I feel about that, but I was happy to see her nonetheless.

Have an emoticon week!

NJ, you can do that as long as the geranium can get a little bit of sunshine but you can also take it out of the soil, shake the dirt off the roots, hang it upside down, let it dry out and then replant it in the spring and it will come back to life when you plant it, give it a good does of root food and water the heck out of it daily. I used to do that when we lived in STL. You can get 2-3 seasons out of them by doing that.
Glad you didn't totally freeze but sorry it was so cold for you. However glad Josh's team had a good day.
Nancy it is amazing that one can furnish a home from yard sales and thrift stores down here and I am sure it is likely the same in AZ. So many nice things for a fraction of the cost. We got rid of everything when we sold our home. Everything we brought down here we hauled in the basement of our motorhome!
We are having awesome weather. I always say if one can make it thru summer, the fall and spring down here are awesome and the winters are definitely not as nasty as up north-no shoveling!!!
We started the day at 65 and I wore a denim shirt when I walked. By the time we left for church at 10 it was lovely out and no jacket needed. We had a health crisis at church-a man in a wheelchair collapsed and EMS had to be called so services were delayed. This was his 1st Sunday back in some time and then so sad for this to happen. Hoping and praying he did not have a heart attack.
We went to lunch at Outback with Vickie & Sonny and their daughter and her family and afterwards they came here to play Hand and Foot. We played 3 games and everyone left about 5. Gals won 2 out of 3!!
Hope everyone has had a spectacular Sunday.

Pat, it was exciting to read of all the super bargains y'all found yesterday. Woo-Hoo! Sounds you all had a really GREAT day altogether. I'm glad you got a bit of rest last eve.
I hope you enjoyed your special lunch today.

Nancy, I hope you have a good trip to AZ at Christmas time. I know that will be so special for you.
Oh wow! I can't imagine not checking email for a whole week. I'd be up another week just to take care of them! LOL
I hate it when you have a house full of family and you work hard to put a good meal on the table, then you're all alone for the cleaning up!! I LOVE the way you handled it.

We skipped church today because Josh's first game (part of a tournament) was at 10:00.
When we got to Josh's first game this morning, it was in the upper 40's with winds close to 20 mph.....just as weather.com predicted. We bundled up, but brrrr. The good news for the ball players and us spectators was that we had a couple of hours to get lunch, so several of us went to Isaacs - a chain restaurant with some good sandwiches and soups, etc.

This afternoon, we sat on the other side of the field, and I'm not sure that was any better or worse. The temps were by now in the low 50's and the winds were still fierce; but at least this afternoon we got more sun.

That's the weather report; now for the final scores. First, I was mistaken about yesterday's score. It wasn't 4-2, it was 7-2. Josh's team scored 11 runs in each of today's games, winning them both handily. One team didn't score at all, and the other only scored a single run. Soooo, Josh's team is ranked high enough at this point that they very well might go on to the (afternoon) championship game next Saturday. In any event, he WILL play a morning game. If we're lucky, it might get up to 60 degrees next Saturday and hopefully, the wind will be CALM! LOL

I'm ready to start another 'regular' week. How about y'all? emoticon

Pat - I know we did a good job of raising her or she wouldn't be able to survive that far away. She seems to be happy, and that's what counts. I'm pretty sure we will be going there at Christmas time even if it isn't Christmas Day. You definitely got some good bargains yesterday! My husband talks about snowbirding when we are able to buy a house in Phoenix. I will need to find some good bargains if we do as we won't be moving everything from here to Phoenix. I've noticed how early it's been getting dark lately. A sure sign that Winter is coming!

NJ - I'm sorry that Tyler's team lost so,badly and that he was hurt to top it off. That sounds painful! It sounds like you're in for a cold game today. Try to stay warm.

We are having a lazy day today, at least I am! We slept in and hubby is checking emails. He didn't check it at all last week so I'm sure he has a lot. That's the worst part about vacation is getting caught up. He doesn't have anyone to cover for him whole he is off. He's trying to get his schedule for next week. He'll probably be gone at least one or two nights. I need to work in the flowers pulling weeds and cutting down the dead stuff before it gets too cold. I plan to work on that for awhile after work before In come into start cleaning. I'm enjoying some down time right now. I get so used to being alone it kind of throws me off when we have people here. Our son and his wife came last Sunday and again Friday. I made a turkey dinner Sinday. I got a little irritated because no one offered to help until I had already cleared the table and had most of the dishes in the dishwasher. I know my daughter didn't feel well, but my DIL just sat and read a book on her iPad the whole time they were here. Friday I just picked up pizza for dinner and didn't really life a finger.

Hi, Pat I thought I'd written to you the other day, but guess I just lost a few too many brains cells. Ha! I'm glad you got to walk early, and that it was cooler than usual. I know you're enjoying that weather. How did the planting go in front of Sharon's house?
Like you, I've been getting rid of a few tops that are getting ratty. I'm sorry to see some 'go' as I've really liked them - probably why they are starting to look ratty. emoticon
I'm sorry your newest tomato plants are getting spots. Hopefully you'll find out what's wrong and salvage them.

I have a question, my gardening friend - I have several black thumbs, but one of my kids gave me a container geranium. It's been hanging above our porch, but now that it's turning colder at night, I put it in the (unheated) basement. My plan, because I don't have any other, is to keep it in the basement until Spring and give it a little water about once a week. Do you have any other suggestions? Thanks.

emoticon Nancy. I'm so glad you were able to visit with your daughter. And yes, even tho' you know it was good for her to move, of course you feel the loss every time you part again. When I hug my DD down south good-bye, we both shed a tear or too, but then we're both able to carry on with our lives. It was very nice that y'all got to see so much family.

Tyler's team lost badly. They were so out-matched. And in the closing minutes of the game, he was hit in the side ribs by the ball - kicked by someone about 5 feet away. He said later that it hurt to breath for a little while, but I noticed he was fine by the time we headed to Josh's game.

Josh's team won 4 - 2 -- but that last inning when the other team was up, was dicey. Still, a win's a win. It was plenty cool today, but the wind was really strong, so we were chilly.

Josh plays twice tomorrow. I checked weather.com after we got home, and they say it'll be way up in the upper 40's at game time in the morning, and lower 50's for the afternoon game. Again, the wind is predicted to be almost 20 mph. BUT!!! No rain today, and none predicted for tomorrow. I have, however, gotten my knitted hat, mittens and afghan out, and plan to wear my winter coat. emoticon

The tournament is over next weekend, then I believe there's no more baseball until late March/early April.

Have a great Sunday, y'all

Nancy so glad you enjoyed your visit with DD. I know it is hard to say goodbye but that is why we raise them-to give them wings and watch them excel in their own right. If it is meant to be then I hope you get to go visit at Christmas.
Our NY friends, R&R, have purchased a 5th wheel in Center Hill. We had hoped they would buy a place in here but.....it didn't happen. I doubt now that it ever will but maybe it is good - they like living in the country, we like being close to things! Don & Linm also our friends, are their neighbors there so they have friends there to do things with. So it is good.
We had a blast today. I was up before 6 to call Ruthie as she said she didn't know where her alarm clock was-guess it will be a few days before they get everything all put away and organized. R&R arrived about 7:20 and we all headed out - they had to drop off their trailer at U-Haul and we went on to the yard sale (it was in Lakes of Leesburg) and met up with them there. Folks line up early so we were in line by 7:45! They open the doors at 8! We had fun spending their $$$$ as we helped Ruthie buy things for the trailer. She needed pots and pans, baking dishes, etc. We found her some casserole dishes (a set of a large deep one and a smaller deep one with lids for $8), 2 cake pans for $1 each, 2 pots for $1 each, a set of Corelle for 4 for $5, an Oster blender for $10, a clock for Roger with a semi on it (he drove one), bowls for their furbaby (raised with ceramic bowls for $2), a Rubbermaid swinging lid trash can for $1, a set of mixing bowls for $2, a computer bag for $1, and the crowning bargain was a wrought iron table and chair with a glass top for $30. It needs painted but the seats have been recovered recently so it will just need the paint. I know there was more they got but I can't remember it all-we were grabbing things as fast as we could as we got in early! We left there and went to Mid-Florida but in there we had to go house to house. I do not like that as well.
We found a table to replace the one that broke for the park. We have a set of chairs and a table near our library and the table blew in one of the storms and broke as it was resin and we have been wanting to replace it and today we found a metal one we don't think will blow! It too needs a coat of paint but we will paint it and the chairs to match.
I got a pr of shorts and a tank top for a quarter each and Vicky & I got weights to use in the pool-set for 50 cents!
We met up with V&S's daughter and her family near the end so we all went to eat lunch together. They don't get up early and get out for the good bargains-they were complaining most things were pretty well picked over-DUH, yeah, the early bird gets the bargains! However, they both work so understand on weekends they like to sleep in and their teenager always wants to sleep!!! emoticon We had lunch at Haystax. Great selection as could get breakfast or lunch. We all got something different.
Sonny had to haul the table and chairs for R&R and after a brief stop at home to relax a few minutes, we took it over to them and checked out their new home. It is very nice and the best thing-no carpet! All laminate floors in it. With our sand, I do not like carpet!!! They are in a mess as they just arrived yesterday and took all the tubs out of the trailer so they could drop it off today but still a nice home for their winter. It is a lot like out final 5th wheel with the back living room, middle kitchen and bedroom and bath up in the front.
We got back here about 4:30 and have crashed-I was up before 6. Need to go water the "weeds" soon as it will be dark and then the "skeeters" come out. I have several ant bites from yesterday's planting and they itch like crazy. Actually stopped and went and did that as dark sure creeps up quickly these days!
Will sleep in a bit tomorrow because we are going to lunch instead of breakfast before church.
Have a blessed Sunday everyone.
Pat

Good morning everyone! I am back from my Spark break. We take our daughter to Chicago today for her flight back to Phoenix. It was so. Ice to have this time with her. I know she made the best choice in moving there, but it still breaks my heart every time we have to say goodbye. My husband has talked about going there for Christmas but I don't know if it will really happen. We did a lot of eating out this week and got to see all of the family that she wanted to see except for one cousin. It was really a nice week.

Yes, Lorie, I am thanking you for doing this as painful as it was. I am praying that because of all the mistreatment this poor girl has suffered they will treat her and find her a new home instead of putting her down. We had a pit and he was the sweetest dog we ever owned (except for cats, he hated them!)
Fall has finally arrived and we are loving it. Low of 58 overnight and a high of 80 this afternoon. Doesn't get much better than this! We have the windows open and the a/c off so that ole meter isn't spinning around so fast! Looks like this is going to stay-at least for the next week or so. Great weather for Biketoberfest in Daytona.

Walked about 7:15 since it was cooler. Nice out there today-even the birds were loving it. Bill & Sonny are waiting till 8 for their walk!

After breakfast, I got my ironing caught up and then a shower and off to the dentist by 10:30. Had to get my teeth cleaned - glad that is over with for now. I go every 4 months, brush twice daily, floss and use a water pik and still have plaque buildup! Vickie has the same problem. Not sure what else I can do.

Vickie & I checked on things at Sharon's house (office manager) and then got the park's truck and off we went. We met Bill & Sonny at Olive Garden as their soup & salad was only $5 this week so we took advantage of that before heading to get our shrubs at The Yard Stop for the beds in front of Sharon's house. They were out of a couple of plants we wanted to get so will have to purchase them later.

By the time we got back here it was after 3 and we were both bushed. We unloaded everything and called it a day. We will plant in the morning. Vicky had gone for therapy at 7:45. Guess this is getting to us-we just can't go like we used to!!! We did hit a couple of thrift stores off of 19 close to the Yard Stop. I got 3 nice tops for $5. I am getting rid of some of the ones that are looking pretty ratty.

Bill did a load of laundry for me and Dan and Ron (friends and board members)came and finished cutting down our avocado tree. We will have to get the stump ground out later on. Noticed this evening that the new tomato plant we just put out has spots on it. Not sure what is going on with us getting so much disease on things. Getting to be a bit of a problem.

Pat

Don't give up on Princess. I should have thought of this before today....sorry. I spoke with the mgr of the animal shelter this morning, and needless to say, she was incensed (as am I). Julie owns 4 pit bulls herself. Anyway, she reminded me that animal control will take the poor, sweet doggie and considering 1 - she's sweet and not violent; and 2 - she's so obviously been abused through neglect, they won't put her to sleep. They'll treat her, feed and water her, and love on her. Secondly, they'll advertise her - via tv, internet, posters, etc. There will probably be dozens of people who will want to adopt Princess after she's recovered from this horrible treatment.
THANK YOU for calling animal control.
I hope you're comforted by the facts that you did what is best for Princess, as well as the thoughts my mgr told me this a.m.

Another beautiful day emoticon here today!
Just thanking my Heavenly Father for His Goodness!

I couldn`t sleep last night thinking about Princess (the neglected pitbull). I tried all day yesterday to find a rescue group that could help, unfortunately there are none in this area. So today I called animal control to come and get her. I am in tears because Princess is very sweet & grateful. She always looked at me when I fed her with her big brown eyes as if she was thanking me.
I`m in tears right now but I know it`s best because now she no longer has to suffer.
Everyone please say a prayer for sweet little Princess, she`s had a very hard life.

Hello, All,

Lorie, the weather there sounds very nice. Thanks for the applesauce recipe, it sounds yummy. Have a super day Thursday.

Pat, I'm glad your friend didn't get in trouble for taking the Shih-Tzu; and that she's doing well. I just can't understand people who abuse or otherwise don't take care of their pets. Those people should be treated the way they treat the animals.
So sorry it was pouring rain this morning. I know it was nice to have the snowbirds back, and that y'all enjoyed having breakfast with them this a.m.
I love it when a meeting actually gets things done.
Good luck with getting everything done to get the new shrubs planted.

DH drove me to get a flu shot, and we noticed the sky was VERY dark. Rain was expected, but we didn't think to take our umbrellas in, so when we came out and the skies had opened up and poured, we were thankful that we were parked (nose in) close to the building. Relatively speaking, we didn't get too wet. My arm is already starting to ache - normal for a flu shot, and it will pass in a day or two.

G'Nite all.

Lorie I do hope Princess gets help and Animal Control comes out quickly. Starving to death is so cruel. We have a friend who actually "took" a shih-Tzu that was being mistreated. The people never even inquired about the dog after she turned up missing from their yard! She has had a loving home now for 10+ years and I sure don't consider it stealing-it was a mercy rescue! I am praying it does not cause a problem for you or your parents. Bless you for trying. Could you throw kibble to get it close enough so she could eat?
Purple Peony I have never made my own applesauce but that sounds pretty simple so might try it. I am always looking for something healthy to make for Christmas gifts so this might be the answer for some of my friends. Thanks for sharing.

I had the alarm set for 6:30 so I could walk before heading to breakfast at 8 BUT it was pouring rain so no walk this morning!!! We had 14 today at breakfast so....the snowbirds are coming back to roost for the winter and expect at least 4 more by next Wednesday so it is growing by leaps and bounds. By the time I got home, just had a few minutes to get things together and headed to the monthly board meeting. That lasted until noon but lots of things voted on and approved so it was a good meeting.
The maintenance man has been working on clearing old shrubs, cleaning out the bed and installing new edging in front of the manager's home. Today new planting soil was purchased and tomorrow after Vickie & I both get in our appointments, we will go to purchase the new shrubs for the area. Then we will get them planted on Friday. Weather has cooled down so wanting to get them in so they get a good start before colder weather.
I had to weed that area this afternoon so it would be ready for the new soil. Think we are almost ready there.

emoticon hi ladies!
It`s a beautiful emoticon day here today! It`s started out a little cool but now it`s sunny, in the mid 70`s. emoticon

Today I made the home made applesauce from the recipe below and it is absolutely DIVINE. The only problem with the recipe is the amount of sugar. I only added a heaping Tablespoon of brown sugar & a heaping Tablespoon of cinnamon sugar. Even though my apples were naturally sweet (I used Gala) I can`t imagine even using tart apples that you would need 1/2 cup of sugar! I also added a teaspoon of apple pie spice. Don`t omit the lemon juice it really livened it up. I didn`t blend mine, I like it chunky. I`ll never buy store bought applesauce again! emoticon

Homemade Applesauce~

Prep Time: 15 Minutes Cook Time: 25 Minutes Difficulty: Easy Servings: 12

Ingredients
◾6 pounds Apples, Peeled, Cored, And Cut Into 8 Slices
◾1 cup Apple Juice Or Apple Cider
◾ Juice Of 1 Lemon
◾1/2 cup Brown Sugar, Packed
◾1 teaspoon Cinnamon, More Or Less To Taste
◾ Optional Ingredients: Nutmeg, Maple Syrup, Allspice, Butter

Preparation Instructions

Combine all ingredients in a large pot and cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, for 25 minutes.

Carefully puree in a food processor or blender (don't fill too full; split into two portions if needed) until smooth.

Store in the fridge and serve by itself, over pork chops, over ice cream, over pancakes...or any place where applesauce is needed!

Pat, I'm glad yesterday's temps weren't bad. You sure had another very busy day - put me to shame. I did get on the treadmill yesterday, but still haven't done any housework. It's on my to-do list for tomorrow.
Your dinner with Vicky and Sonny sure sounds good. I hope Bill doesn't lose a bunch of weight; but stays healthy.

Lorie, My heart goes out to Princess. I'll pray for you both, as I know you're uneasy about relations with the neighbors. With a little luck, animal control will come out and see how badly they're treating her, and even take them to court. I do hope Princess gets a new permanent home and isn't put to sleep; although that humane act would be better than having her live as she is now. Bless your heart for being such a kind, thoughtful person.

I'm thinking the Family and Consumer Services (Home Ec) class at the high school is 'just' a Textile Arts class - that other periods cover other subjects, such as child care. I could be wrong, and even if I'm right, I'm pleased I can help out.

Y'all have a emoticon emoticon week.

Thanks to everyone who gave advice on the dog situation. I`ve made up my mind to call animal control. I just went to check up on her & she`s tangled up so bad she can hardly get into her dog house & it`s raining. I tried my best to get some food to her since she`s been tangled up a few days and hadn`t eaten. Unfortunately I couldn`t get the food close enough & now she`s there starving with food a foot away from her that she can`t reach. I`m usually not a busy body and I don`t get in other people`s business but this is just inhumane.
Please say a prayer for me (that I`m doing the right thing) and say a prayer for Princess (the brave little pitbull)

Lorrie I agree you need to call animal control. Even if they put her to sleep it is a more merciful death than starving or dying of thirst. People like that should not be allowed to have a dog ever again. Good luck with this.
I enjoyed a good day-73 to start this am and 88 for a high. I walked and did some weeding and then home to clean house, did some cooking and a load of laundry. We had Vickie & Sonny over for supper. We grilled shrimp on skewers for an appetizer, then had onion burgers, potato salad, baked beans and deviled eggs. I even made a Dutch apple cake. I didn't need all the food but Bill is continuing to lose weight so hoping to keep him stable.

Lorie, That's a tough situation. The best thing for the dog is to call animal control. Is there a pit bull rescue group nearby? Or a no-kill shelter of some kind? Even if the poor thing ends up being put to sleep, it still would be more merciful that what is happening now. Blessings on you for all you've done thus far and for your loving concern.

It makes me angry when people abuse animals. I used to watch some tv animal rescue programs (from various US cities), but some of the animals they rescued were in such awful shape I had to stop watching.

Pat, I'm glad you and DH had a good Sunday. It's nice y'all tried that restaurant again, and that it seems to be turned around. Let's hear a emoticon for the split decisions in card playing.

It's been overcast and/or rainy all day, just as expected. Well, it didn't start raining until late this a.m., so DH was able to mow the grass again.

DD called this morning and said when the boys (ages 11 and 14) got up this morning, they started fighting about video games and they were still at it. I don't know what she ultimately did, but it sounded so familiar. My girls didn't have video games back then, but it was something else. So, the grandsons are 'normal'. LOL Everybody will be back to work and school tomorrow, if they can survive the day today. Haha.

We're taking Tyler out for his birthday dinner this Friday. He always choses to go to TGI Fridays, which works for me. They have a killer mango lemonade slush to die for. I guess I should also figure out what solid food I'll eat. It won't really be a problem.

I used the treadmill today, and guess I should do some housework tomorrow, after school. I have a Wednesday nurse appt to get a flu shot. The medicine has been slow getting to my dr's office - I've been calling weekly since some time last month. I sure will be glad to get my shot - I just don't want ANY respiratory problems.

I hope you all have a good week.

emoticon Happy Monday everybody! emoticon

This weekend was relaxing but uneventful. We made plans to go out and to the movies but after the weather got cloudy & rainy we just decided to rent movies and hang out around the house. That was fine with me.

Ladies I need your advice.
My parents neighbors have a five year old pitbull that is being severely neglected. She is severely malnourished. You can see every bone in her body. The dog was being care for by my parent`s neighbor until he died in April. The dog belonged to his grandchildren but they left it there for him to care for. Now that he & his wife passed the grandchildren now live in the house. I don`t think they`ve even once fed the dog since their grandfather passed away. I would feed her a few times a week when I would go there. Everyday the past 2 weeks I`ve tried to go feed her because she really looked like she wouldn`t make it much longer. I`ve been giving her food and water under a small hole under the fence between my parents backyard to their`s but now her chain is tangled up in all kinds of junk and debris and the dog can no longer reach the hole in the fence to get the food. I don`t know what to do. These people are not good people, their grandparents were but they are not. I don`t want to cause any tension between my parent`s neighbors and my parents but I feel I have no choice but to call animal control. I put it off so long because the pitbull is really sweet & loving and unfortunately our shelter will kill her after 3 days if they pick her up. I asked the neighbor`s to untangle her so that I could feed her but they got mad at me and wouldn`t even do that! I just can`t watch that dog suffer any longer but I don`t want to cause problems for my parents.
emoticon What should I do?

We had a beautiful day-hit 87 for our high and I for one look forward to it cooling down a bit. We went to breakfast before church and it was a place we had not gone to in over 10 years. Had a bad incident then and never returned but it went great today and food was good. Probably have had several different owners but ....never felt like going back.
Played cards this afternoon with V&S and split the games so all went home happy.

Yes, Pat, I do; especially when they come up and want to pet my pitty. I'm glad to see them not afraid of her. Abbie is such a cutie, I'm sure everyone loved her when she came around as a therapy dog.
Sorry about the Cards. I confess to not watching sports last night, but DH did - you know, watch a few moments on this station, [click] catch a few moments on that station, etc. LOL
If I could send you some of our weekend rain, I sure would. You need rain, we're sitting just fine on the amount we've been getting, and I'm tired of Josh's games being washed out. emoticon

Have a great week, everyone.

Don't you love it when they compliment our furbabies. Abbie loves to visit people and if anyone pulls up on a golf cart she hops on so they can pet her. She made a very good therapy dog for that reason.
I have been watching the Cards game and it is not looking good-down to the last out and down by 3 and nobody on!!! There is always tomorrow!!!!!
Sorry Josh's games got rained out. It does seem like the rain tends to come at the worst time. We could use some. We had all that at the end of Sept and now nothing!! Maybe mid week we will get a little.
OK game over so time for bed so I can get up to walk before church.

I agree, Pat. The collars, while necessary, are a pain - in many places. LOL Thank you for the good thoughts for Darby. Poor Abbie - I hate it when the dr says something will help, then it doesn't. Darby's on salmon (and potato) food, too. Has been for some time now, but it doesn't prevent her allergies. We're thinking about a canine allergist.
Yes, our furbabies DO cost us as much as the 2-legged kind of babies, and the shame of it is the we can't claim our furbabies on our taxes. emoticon
Oh my! Poor Bill - dropping his drawers at the motel. I'm so glad you've been able to find more shorts for him, in a size that fits.
emoticon I love it, too, when you get something for little effort - but you four sure have made out like bandits. Sounds like you got a decent lunch today - we usually just score a hot dog for a $1.00. Maybe we ought to move to FL.

Predictably, Josh's games got rained out again today. What IS IT with rain every weekend?! Unfortunately, there's not enough time to make up those games before next week's championship tournament. I sure hope THAT doesn't get rained out!

So, DH and I took Darby and had to go to a couple of pet stores before we found what we were looking for. Darby enjoyed getting out, and seeing other dogs; but she especially liked it when people came up, asked if they could pet her, and complemented her on her coloring (light brindle) and her good manners.

Oh my, poor Darby. Those collars are a real pain in the you-know-what. We had to put one on our pit when he was neutered and had his ears clipped-poor boy hurt at both ends. I do hope Darby gets better soon. Abbie is getting worse scabs down her spine so I am boing to have to take her to the vet. I am using the special shampoo and bathing her weekly and it is still getting worse so time for something else. One vet told us it was like acne but the shampoo would solve the problem. WRONG! Another told me to quit feeding her chicken so we have her on salmon food and treats and that hasn't done it either. Our furbabies cost as much as the real thing!
We went to several yard sales today but it was mostly children's clothes and toys so didn't excite us. Did get a spring wreath to use in decorating the park. Also got the cutest birdhouse with a bird on it (ceramic). It is actually a light but we are going to figure out some way to use it by the clubhouse. I also found a pair of Columbia shorts for DH. I think now he has enough that I won't have to worry so much. Nothing worse than a man dropping his pants accidentally because they are too big!!!! I still chuckle thinking of him doing that at the motel on our way home from Michigan.
We get these flyers from car dealers down here and they offer a prize if you come in sooo Vickie, Sonny, DH & I have been going to the dealers and usually we "win" $5 in golden dollar coins or a $5 gift card to W-Mart. So far we have gotten about $25 worth of "prizes". Today we also a free hamburger, potato salad and a soda for coming in.
Doesn't take a lot to amuse we seniors I guess!!!

Oh, dear Pat. I'm so sorry your arm continues to hurt. Doing things the way you are sounds like a real good idea - work a bit, rest a bit; get DH to work a bit. LOL Seriously, I do hope your arm heals soon.
Like you, I don't like when my plants, etc encroach on someone else's property.

I'm not certain I'd characterize myself as a good wife - I just pretty much know when to take things into my own hands, and when to leave things in DH's hands....when it's just not worth the hassle if I insist on my own way. Oh, I'm not a complete doormat, but I do pick my battles. Still, I think we should have called the police yesterday.

We took Darby back to the vet today - her allergies are driving her nuts, and she has licked her feet until they're about raw. Yesterday, DH put a plastic "Elizabethan collar" on her. Poor Darby, with it on, she knocked over the small table with a large planter on it. Lost part of the dirt and some of the "water holder" at the bottom of the planter, but it's mostly ok. Bless her heart - it scared Darby half to death. First DH then both of us (after I cleaned things up) spent a lot of time reassuring her and trying to let her know it was ok. She's doing much better with the collar today.

The vet has her on some pills (I forget what), and we're going to leave the collar on, and see how things go. We really hate to have to do that, even tho' she is adjusting to the collar.

You are a good wife NJ. I would have had 911 dialed before my DH knew what hit!!! I probably drive him nuts - with DH #1 being ill for 9 years and now Bill having health issues, I make most decisions and don't even think about it.
I got Bill to trim some of my shrubs today. I just could not do it with the arm so he did it and I picked things up and put them in my big bucket. The butterfly bush was going thru the fence and encroaching on the neighbor's area so we have that trimmed back. I never like to feel like my plants are not in their "own space".
I have worked on a couple of items today and rested between things. I had minutes to type so got that taken care of and once I get the approval, I will zap them into cyberspace to everyone!
I also have worked on my ironing off and on. I iron for 20-30 minutes and then read a chapter or 2 in my book to rest my arm and by doing this, I have gotten about 3/4 of the ironing done. That will wait for tomorrow (or the next day or next, etc).
My arm is better but still hurts to lift it up past mid chest. I guess this isn't going away in a matter of a few days. Guess cleaning my Florida room is going to be put on hold for a couple weeks!

Pat, I'm so glad you're beginning to feel better. I pray your recovery will continue, and that you'll feel great, soon.

I agree with you - but DH has the final word in our house, and when he decides yea or nay, that's the way it is. You know - "the sky is polka-dotted" brooks no contradiction. My Dad was like that, too. I, too, hope none of my neighbors was taken in by that young man.

How horrible to think that man got away with his crimes for years, but how great that he was finally caught.

I bid you all a good night.

NJ I hope that kid didn't gain access to a neighbor. That is the time to call the police, while they are there! We hear it all the time down here where some senior has been taken advantage of or robbed. We just had a 40 something man arrested for raping women in their 70's. He has evidently been doing this for a number of years and they have DNA evidence. This happened right here in our small town. Luckily it was none of the widows in our community! One lady said she had a peeping tom this summer-just wonder if it was this guy as he lived not far from our community!!!!

Nancy so glad you have the vacation time and you will be able to spend a lot of time with DD. I know it will be so good to see her and you will enjoy every minute of it.

I am feeling some better today-can lift my arm to mid chest so that is better!

Pat, I'm so sorry you're under the weather, but glad you decided to take a rest afternoon. I know it did you good. Very nice that you enjoyed that "new" restaurant. I like finding a new place.

emoticon Nancy, I'm so happy for you that you have an upcoming interview for the university job. I'm excited for you, and know that you'll do well.
Oh, I DO hope step bro really is getting his act together. Although it was probably kinda tough, I'm glad brother put his foot down.
I love knitting and crocheting. I started out with blankets, too; and when I started moving on from that, I was a stay-at-home Mom, so had more time......until #2 came along. Haha.
SUPER! I'm glad you'll be on vacation, and especially glad that DD is coming to spend time with you. How sweet that will be.

One of 'my' kittens is a pistol anyway, but he was really feeling his oats today. Knowing that giving Emory extra attention early on usually helps, I held and petted him until he started biting my shirt and tried to crawl onto my back. Tried again later with the same results. Then, as I was cleaning, and bending over some, I got a back-full of Emory -- THREE times! Fortunately, he didn't dig in. Finally, as I laid newspaper down (to put litter pans on), Emory brought a buddy over and they both started messing with the paper. I had fun, though.

Had a disturbing experience today - well, DH did. I heard part of the exchange. A near-20 yr old boy came to the door and knocked. He told DH he was supposed to have demonstrated a vacuum cleaner an hour earlier but didn't, and he wanted to use our phone to call his boss and tell him the vac was demonstrated; and that the boss would probably want to talk to DH to verify it was done. DH told him he didn't believe him and shut the door. As far as DH was concerned, that was that. I bit my tongue because I wanted to call the police. I saw the kid go across the street, then to another neighbor's. Now tell me, what kid that age doesn't have a cell phone?! Besides, that kind of tactic is on TV news as being used by unscrupulous people to gain access to the house. Later I did ask DH why he didn't call the police, and he brushed off my concern.....not untypically. Oh well.

I got called for an interview yesterday! It's not until November 13th and it's from 1:00 - 4:30! I feel like they'd a long interview for a secretary position. I assume I'll be meeting with everyone in the department. I'm excited!

NJ - I think step bro had a wake up call. I guess Sunday brother went home from our house and let him have it. Told him he wasn't expecting him to be here this long and if it keeps up he'd probably stay here another six month. Meh gave home a deadline and told him he was dropping him off at the homeless shelter and what happened after that up to him. Low and behold, he went to Labor Ready and got a job for three days at a hig fsrm, and will be doing another job over the weekend. He also supposedly got the job at the apartment complex as a maintenance man so will have a place to stay too. I hope for everyone's sake that it works out. How nice that you were able to give a homemade outfit to the new baby. I haven't mastered anything other than blankets.

Pat - Thanks for keeping your finger crossed. I do hope it works out. I'm going to keep looking just in case it doesn't work out. sorry you're having trouble, I hope today is better for you, I'm glad you listened to your body and gave it a rest day.

Two more work days and I am on vacation and get to see my daughter. I am having a hard time sitting still today. emoticon

NJ no luckily Vickie was not allergic. She has had reactions to food but not this wasp sting. How nice of you to make a preemie set. I am sure both would be greatly appreciated. I used to buy yarn so my aunt could make sets for me to give to the ladies who worked for me who had babies.
Nancy I have my fingers and toes crossed that things works out and this is the JOB for YOU!! It would be great if it comes thru so you could build your pension up more.
I am having issues with my PMR so didn't get nearly as much done as planned. Walked early, went to breakfast, Vickie and I put out the stones I got yesterday, went to a meeting and then came home and crashed. I took an anti-inflammatory but so far it hasn't knocked the pain. I fell asleep watching the noon news and only woke 2 hours later when Vickie called. I decided to rest the rest of the afternoon so read and watched tv till time to go to dinner with V&S and another couple. 1st time we had gone to this restaurant and we will definitely return. Very good!!
Hoping I feel better tomorrow as I have a lot I need to do.

Oh! Poor Vicky! I hope it wasn't more than a single wasp - as painful as that it! Yes, I've been stung by a single one, and it's SO painful! Since you didn't mention it, I gather that Vicky isn't allergic to them.
Pat, I hope your teeth cleaning is uneventful so that you can enjoy the feel of the clean teeth.
You sure were busy yesterday. But emoticon You made out like a bandit at the store AND the restaurant. Good for you.

Nancy, I do hope step-bro comes to grips with how he should be living, which includes not sponging off others.
SUPER! I'm excited for you and the possibility of a job interview at the university. It sure sounds promising. I hope you get the job.

I donated blood today, but the phlebotomist (a male) splashed blood on my (white) shirt when he put the needle in. I've never had that happen. When I came home, I put hydrogen peroxide on the spots and hopefully it'll all come out in the wash. But if not, I'll reluctantly give it up to the trash. The shirt is probably a dozen years old.

A lady in our church was PG but her water broke at about 33 weeks. The baby was born at 34 weeks, weighing 4 lb, 11 oz. I had a newborn-sized sweater, booties and bonnet knitted for her (and maybe I'll give it to her anyway); but bought some really soft yarn to make a set in preemie size. Need to get started on that tonight.

G'Night

NJ - Your work with the schools sounds so rewarding! I'm sure both the teachers and students appreciate you. I like your story about Harold and George. I remember a whole back you were having trouble with the names. Oh! Hurray in not needing a crown! I missed that yesterday.

Pat - At least step bro isn't spending his money on alcohol. I don't know how much he's been saving though. Brother keeps asking him because he's trying to be sure he's saving for his own place, but he won't say. Step bro keeps asking my hid and if he wants to work on the rental property. There are a couple of things we need to do, but they are urgent so we're not doing it. I thin he just wants more money. He needs to realize that we are t his incomes ounce. We do appreciate his help, but can't keep giving him work just because he doesn't have a job.

Last Friday I took a test for a job at our local university. I scored 88% but they keep your highest score on the registry so I'm at 90% which placed me at #10 on the registry. Yesterday I got a call asking me to provide a cover letter that I didn't upload when I applied. They have to have the cover letter before they can interview me. So, I might be getting called for an interview!! It would really be nice to get on at the university. I worked for a university before we moved so I have a small pension built up. It would be nice to be able to add to that before retirement,

Nancy I do hope that step-bro lands a job and that DH's brother gets wise and finally does a little tough love. A close friend let their alcoholic son live with them for 7 yrs after his divorce and he used whatever little bit of $$ he made to buy more alcohol! When he moved out finally he expressed anger at them and I believe it was because he realized their letting him get away with this for so long was not good for him. It has taken a number of years before they are slowly repairing the relationship.
NJ glad to hear you did not need a crown. What a relief. I was to go to the dentist on Thursday for a cleaning but I changed the appointment as we had a meeting we wanted to attend so now it won't be till Thursday next week.
I walked earlier today and we put the a/c on about 11 as it was warming up. Vickie & I worked in the front beds this morning for about 2 hours. She was stung by a wasp-a nest had been built in one of the plants in the bed she was working in. She didn't see it and moved it and "BAM" she was stung! They have been sprayed so hopefully they are dying!!!
Got 2 loads of laundry done today, went and got my haircut and then ran to get bags of marble rock for one of the beds for the park, stopped at Walgreens for our Move Free, Mega Red and my A-Reds eye vitamins which were on sale. I used coupons, and 40,000 points which gave me $50 off and it still ended up costing me $23 but I saved $98! I had to stop at Publix for yogurt and bread as we were out!
DH was hungry when I got home so we quickly unloaded the car and hurried there so we got in before 4 for the soup and salad at lunch prices. It is $3 more at night for the same thing! I had a $2 off coupon and we still had some $$ on a gift card so didn't cost us anything except the tip. Pretty good savings today.

Hi Nancy, we're holding off on the heat, except I've put a small space heater in the bathroom for when it's too cold in the a.m. and I'm going to take a shower. Too bad we'll soon need the furnace and our electric bill will go up. sigh. : D

I hope step bro DOES have a job. And that he keeps it. That bit of stability would be very helpful to him.

This morning at the HS (high school) I worked with one girl and her crocheting, and another with knitting. I'm so glad I can share something I love.

At the end of the period in the 2nd grade class, DH and I call out the names of about 5 students to sit on the couch (yes, they have a couch/sofa). While I was working with a couple of boys, they both asked that I choose them. I said, ok, you're Harold and you're George. (Not their names). When it was time to choose students, I called out Harold and George; and they laughingly took their seats on the couch. The teacher asked them about their names, and they said that I'd renamed them. The boys got a real kick out of the trick. And yes, I knew their real names.

Have a good 'un.

I only like chili when it's cold too. My husband doesn't understand that, he likes it all the time. It's been cool here too. I think it's supposed to warm up a bit next week.

NJ - We've already had to turn our furnace on. It feels too early for that. It does t fun often, but it does at night.

Step bro might have a job! He applied as a maintenance man for an apartment complex and they called my husband for a reference yesterday. He can get away with that since their last names are different. He gave him a decent reference and was honest too. He does do good work, he just needs help prioritizing and staying focused. That's the only kind of job he can get, he doesn't have a high school diploma or GED.

Lori, I'm glad you were able to spend time with your Mom. Speaking as a Mom, I know she appreciated (not only the meal but) the time you spent with her.
Don't you hate it when your body tells you that you over-indulged, especially in foods that aren't the most healthy! emoticon Hopefully, you're already starting to feel better. One good thing is that our weight goes up and down a pound or two every day, so don't get fixated over the bit of weight you may have gotten over the weekend.
It's a good thing that you realized what you did about binge patterns. Now you'll be even more aware of the temptations and be able to resist them.
I wish you an emoticon week, too.

Nancy, Brrrr! The 40's are cold! We've gotten down there a couple of nights now, but it warms up to maybe 70 degrees during the day. Of course, when the house only warms up to 65 or so during the day (when the sun shone all day), you know winter is not real far behind. We're trying to stretch our no-heat/no-cool time the rest of this week, and plan to turn the heat on next week.
I checked my email settings on Spark, and they appeared to be ok. While I have gotten SOME Spark emails today, it's been nowhere near the number I usually get. Oh well, maybe it'll all be better when I get online tomorrow.
DH's poor brother - I agree that it's about time to kick out step-bro. Ugh! If step-bro won't shower unless forced to, if he were living in my house, he'd be history already. P-U.

It's funny, Pat. DH and I checked the temperature on weather.com, but didn't even give the wind a thought. Will do from here on out! :D
I agree, chili IS a cold weather dish. And DH makes a mean chili. I make a good one, but DH's is better than mine.
I'm glad the temps down there are more moderate. I know it makes a big difference to what you can do (going outside or not). Hopefully, it won't get too very warm when it warms up.

I'm happy to report that I only needed my filling replaced - no crown. They numbed my gum topically, then 'shot' me. That is the worst part of things. I seem to be all fine now.

Y'all have a great night, and an even better tomorrow.

NJ I haven't had a problem either so I hope by now you have it figured out. I too have gotten my setting changed and I didn't know how. Glad you were able to enjoy the games and not freeze to death. I guess you will really have to watch the weather from now on.

Nancy glad you had the chili to warm up. I am looking forward to having some soon. For some reason it seems to be a cold weather dish and I don't make it in the summer. I do a lot of soups in the winter.

Lori it sounds like you will be busy with different festivals. I love being able to get out and enjoy things like that and our community yard sales. We look forward to this time of year when we can finally enjoy being outside again.

I slept till almost 8 today since I knew I would be able walk later as it was another cool morning. Tomorrow I will have to get back to going earlier as we are to start warming back up. We had company this afternoon-played cards with friends. Split the games so everyone went home happy.

Pat - Isn't the 50's pretty cold for you? We got into the 40's and I had to get out my winter cost already. Your day Saturday sounds like it was fun.

NJ - We went out for dinner on Friday so we had the chili for lunch on Saturday. It was nice to just throw it in a pan and reheat it. Great job bring I. Your calorie range with dinner out and cake! Good luck at the dentist today. I haven't been having trouble with Spark. Go I to your email settings and make sure the box marked "never email me" or something like that isn't checked. I've had it get checked by accident before.

Lori - I'm jealous of your sleeping! I can't remember the last time I slept that much except she I was sick. I guess your body needed it. How was the fair?

We had a nice relaxing weekend. Step brother called Friday night and hubby told him we weren't working so he left us alone for the most part. He did come. Y sinday when he was working on his car because he needed to borrow something. Brother came over to watch football with us. We invited him because we haven't seen him for quite a while. He is getting tired of step bro living there and is about to kick him out. Not only is he not doing anything to better himself, now he has quit showering unless brother makes him. So on top of the cigarette smell, he had body odor. I think he needs to kick him out so he will realize he has to grow up and take care of himself. Sad.

Nancy nothing was out of the ordinary with my Spark messages today emoticon

I had an amazing weekend! Yesterday was my wonderful mom`s birthday so after church I bought her dinner and we spent the day with her and my dad. God is good and I am blessed!

The weather is still cool but we`re supposed to be back in the 80`s in a day or two. We have a lot of fall festivals coming up this month that I`m really looking forward to. emoticon

This weekend I really ate too much junk. I feel puffy and bloated now. I haven`t been on the scale but I`m sure I`ve gained weight. It`s kjnd of scary that I saw some of my old binge patterns emerge on Saturday. I`ve lost over 100 lbs. and I really thought that I`d conquered this but it just goes to show that weight loss is a lifetime battle. I`m only about 15 lbs. from my ultimate weight loss goal, I`ve got to get back in control. Pray for me. emoticon

Today is Monday and a chance for a fresh start. Let`s have an emoticon week!
emoticon emoticon emoticon

LOL No, Pat, we didn't freeze at the soccer game, but God sure could have turned down the wind a little. We sat with our backs to it, and snuggled down into our coats and such. Yes, the weather is always a crap-shoot, but we try to watch the forecast on tv, and go online to weather.com so we have the best idea of what to expect. Both of Josh's games were postponed until this afternoon.
Tyler's team won 2-1 - I think it was the first time they scored this season, so it was doubly sweet.
How smart it is to hold the community yard sale in one place instead of making folks go from house to house like our development/subdivision does. Too bad yours wasn't very big after all this year. "Nasty rain" LOL
Your trek through the Birds and Wildflowers display sounds real nice. I'd like to have seen the falcons in person - have just seen pictures.

We missed Josh's first (make-up) game today since it started before church let out. Then we stayed to help count the offering (we only do it once in awhile). After that, we scurried home, stopping along the way at a gas station to grab sandwiches to eat at the game. We dropped by the house to change clothes and let Darby out, then put her back into the house, and off we went. The first game was still playing when we got there (Josh's team lost), then everyone stopped for lunch. The second game was better; not in the play itself (too many errors) but because Josh's team won 9-4. Yes, we had a good time.

I get a cracked (in two places!) filling replaced tomorrow, and am trusting that I won't need a crown instead. I go to both schools on Tuesday, see my psychiatrist Wed, clean at the shelter Thursday, and so far - NOTHING for Friday! emoticon Yes, this will be a busy week for me. Better than being bored out of my gourd.

Y'all have a good night's rest.

Lori the Renaissance Fair has grown so down here that they are moving the location. I guess that is a good thing as it means more folks coming to our area and bringing in those $$$.
NJ I hope you didn't freeze at the game. I always enjoyed the fall soccer games when my sons played but one never knew from week to week what kind of weather we would have and I imagine that will be the same for you.
This morning V&S picked us up about 7:30 and we were off to the 1st big community yard sale of the season. We picked up several items for the park but that was it. I think the rain yesterday late and into the night dampened things and not as many folks with items for sale as usual. (They hold it on a church parking area which is nice so one doesn't have to go from house to house).
Afterwards, we went to the Birds and Wildflowers display in a local park. They had a tent set up with plants and butterflies. It was quite a nice experience. They had falcons on display by the local falconers club. We picked up more ideas for plants for the community and came home with some tomato plants.

Hi, Lori - Glad you're back online. I hate it when I can't get internet.

Wow! Obviously you needed that sleep. I'm glad you've awakened refreshed.

:D so Fall comes to the Carolinas. I know it does, because we lived in Fayetteville waaaay back when. You'll be a bit warmer than we will today. Our high is to be about 60, with temps dropping all afternoon. Tyler has a soccer game, so I plan to have my winter coat, and maybe an afghan. Tonight's low is expected to be in the low-40's. emoticon Those temps are a welcome relief from summer. Oh, I enjoy summer's heat for a little while, especially since it lets me wear sandals, which is almost like being barefooted.

Have a super day at the Renaissance Festival! I've promised myself that one of these years I'm going to our Renaissance Fair. Now all I have to do is prod DH. LOL

Have a blessed weekend.

emoticon everybody!
The past few days my internet access has been out so I haven`t been able to get online much. I don`t know if the storm caused it or what, but it seems to be ok now.

Last night I went to bed early and I ended up sleeping 11 1/2 hours! I feel so refreshed today.

Most of the week the temperature has been in the mid 80`s, then we had a storm come through yesterday and temperatures dropped dramatically. Today the high is supposed to be 69° , so we really are having fall weather now! At least it`s supposed to be sunny and it`s a great day for us to go to the Renaissance Festival! (Say a prayer for me that I won`t eat too much junk food there!)

Enjoy your day! emoticon

I'm so sorry, Pat, that you had so much rain on your trip. Wow! That was a lot of laundry. Hope you're caught up now. Also, hope that Bill's hearing aids are still fine. I know they are dreadfully expensive, and I don't think many insurances cover them at all. Wonder why.
Oooooo. Yeah, if it's getting down into the 50's at night, it very well might not get very hot during the day.

Hi, Lori, I hope YOU have a great weekend.

Wow, Nancy. That could have been dreadful - both in mess and in cost. I'm so glad it turned out differently.
Too bad DH couldn't get away sooner, but at least you do have a future meal taken care of. Besides, chili is usually better the second day anyway. emoticon

I took DH out to dinner to celebrate his birthday. On the way home, we stopped at a grocery store and bought a one-layer cake.......his favorite kind. Would you believe, I stayed within my calories today, anyway!! emoticon

Still waiting to see if the boys' games will be called tomorrow due to rain/wet fields. I hope not.

Have a great weekend, lots of fun, and hug the ones you love.

Walked just before 8 today as I didn't set the alarm but it wasn't too bad. Soon I will be able to walk later in the morning and I am looking forward to that. I gave Abbie her bath today and DH ran the vacuum for me, washed the sheets and I mopped the kitchen. Guess it means that things are back to normal and lots of little jobs that need done! Vickie and I went to the pool about 11 and enjoyed a couple of hours there. We are to get down into the 50's tomorrow night so figured we should enjoy it today as who knows if we will get to tomorrow.

Pat - Welcome home! Yes, laundry is a definite downside to coming home from vacation. It sounds like you're pretty well caught up.

I'm tired tonight. I got up early to finish the housework. Hubby thought he might get home by 6:00 or 7:00. I went to the grocery store after work and had them out away and supper started when he called to tell me he didn't get done early and wouldn't be home until 9:00 or after. I'm glad I started s pot of chili because we can have to for dinner tomorrow.

Good evening-we made it home late yesterday evening and now working on getting things caught up. Laundry always accumulates-did 3 loads today. Bill had to go have his hearing aides looked at-they check them every 3 months. Try to keep them working as they are so expensive and expected life is only 3-5 years!!!
I have gotten thru the mail and the newspapers so hopefully tomorrow will be a more normal day!!!
Nancy so glad you caught that leak before it was a major problem.

NJ - It definitely would have been bad if I hadn't caught it. The puddle in the floor was pretty bug. I'm surprised the ceiling/sub floor wasn't wet too. I'm happy brother or step bro was able to fix it. Plumbers are expensive and I would have lost a days pay too.

Pat - I'm sorry you only got a couple hours beach time. Have a safe trip home.

Nancy, I'm glad to see I'm not alone in crossing off days on calendars. emoticon
Thank you for your sympathy about my driving the truck in the fog this a.m. I, too, am thankful for God's safety for me.
Oh my! How fortunate that you were in the basement and got dripped on - who knows how much trouble it would have been if it had been allowed to drip indefinitely. Whew! I'm glad brother look at it, instead of you having to call a plumber. I wince every time I think how much they cost. : )

We've had a nice Fall day, except for the morning fog. I so enjoy these temps and every year wish we had more of them. LOL

NJ - I have a calendar at work that I am crossing off the days, and I write the # of days left I. The whiteboard at my desk. It was a fantastic Sunday. I'm sorry you had to drive the old truck this morning. I hate driving in fog, I'm glad you made it there and back safely.

I had a rude surprise this morning. I was in the basement dusting he rafters and got. Dropped on, I looked down and there was a huge puddle in the floor. I checked the pipes and it did t seem to be coming from them. I went outside and checked the spigot, nope, it was turned off. We had step bro replace our kitchen faucet last week so I checked under the sink and it was dry too. My husband said it was probably from the shut off valve that step bro replaced. I had brother look at it, and sure enough, that's what it was. Whew, an easy fix.

Nancy, speaking counting down the days.....When I lived overseas and graduated from high school, I took a brown paper bag and flattened it out, making a calendar (more than 1 month). I checked off each day until I returned to the States for college. Some things (like your daughter's coming home) are better waited for when we have something visual. LOL
Fantastic! I'm glad you took a relaxing weekend. You certainly deserve it. And that includes not having to deal with step bro. Yea!

Pat, it seems y'all aren't destined to have much beach and/or pool time this vacation. I'm sorry, because you wanted more time there. What a shame that the first place you went to was flooded.
Happy Birthday to Bill. Hope it's a fun one.

DH wanted to wash and wax cars today, so I was relegated to driving the almost-30 yr old truck to the high school. I hate that truck. I don't mind that it's a stick, I learned how to drive using a stick. One thing I mind is that most of the time we shift into 5th gear, we have to hold the stick in place or it pops out again. emoticon I hadn't driven the truck for a year or more, so was out of practice. Combine that problem with the fog and YUK! The fog got heavier the closer I got to school, and of course, the traffic got heavier too. Made for one hairy morning. The fog had lifted for the most part by the time I came home.

I need to take Darby to get bathed today since DH is going then for PT. He has some back problems. DH expects to be home again in time to go to the elementary school. I hope so, because if I go without him, I'll hear about it for oh, so long. emoticon

NJ - I am very excited for her to come home. It's 12 days now, but who's counting?m Me, that's who! Yes, I was so glad he was able to make it home. We spent yesterday relaxing and napping. I was happy that step bro didn't show up yesterday. He tends to drop in quite often. I don't think he understands that we need our private time. I'm glad the smoke alarm problems were discovered before you really needed them. Hurray for Josh's team winning both games!

Pat, I'm glad your tummy started feeling better before your trip, and hope that you're doing great! Surely the rain will let up these next few days so you can get some beach time! I sure hope so.
So how did the keys thing work out? I hope you don't have to buy another one.
You sure had a busy Friday, so I hope you got extra rested that night. How's your mini vacation?

Less than two weeks now, Nancy! I know you're excited. I hope your daughter has a good trip, and that you all have a great time together.
I'm so sorry your hubby got caught up in that airport problems, but glad he made it home safely, albeit later than desired. I hope he got rested this weekend.
Oh, gee. What a shame that your tenants aren't keeping up with the yard work like they're supposed to. I'll bet you're right - the sister takes care of the house. With two men, you'd think they'd be capable of doing the yard work.

Thank you, Lori. We had a nice weekend, except for the two smoke alarms. It was a good thing DH created so much smoke Saturday that the alarms went off - well sort of went off. That caused us to realize two of them were no good any more. (we have three) We disconnected them and went to Josh's games. DH replaced the dead alarms this morning.

Josh's team won the first game 6-0 or maybe it was 6-1, I wasn't sure. They broke for lunch and the same two teams played another game. You'd think a different team came out on the field for the beginning of that game. The other team scored 10 runs in the first 2 innings, and Josh's team only scored 1 run in that time. The 3rd inning, the other team scored another run, but Josh's team came on like gangbusters and won the game 12-11. The game was called since those 3 innings took so long and the time limit was up. But it was an exciting Saturday. emoticon emoticon

Pat -It sounds like you're all ready to go. I hope you have a wonderful trip and get to enjoy the beach.

We spent the day cleaning up the yard at our rental house. The tenant is supposed to,be doing it but hasn't been. They keep the house clean and taken care of so I guess that's something. Two brothers and a sister live there. I assume the sister takes care of the house. We got home earlier than we have been and told a nap. Tomorrow he has office work to do and I'm sure I can find something to do while he's working. Next weekend we want to go for the last group Harley ride.

Nancy sorry your hubby got tied up in that mess. It is no fun when one is stranded and not much you can do. We got hung up when we were returning from Alaska. Bad weather kept us from landing in Toronto-we had to be diverted and then we had to land at a small airport to get more fuel and finally made it in late to find our flight had already left so we could not make it out of there to return to Orlando until the next day. Hope he gets to rest up this weekend.

I am pretty much packed for our trip, washed the car this morning, gave Abbie a bath, filled the car with gas, made a trip to the mall, got lunch and did my ironing so finally time to sit and chill out. We plan to leave at 6 am tomorrow so need to rest up. Fear we are going to have lots of rain so.....keep your fingers crossed we get some beach time!!

NJ - Sorry to hear about Tyler's fall. I'm glad it's not serious. I bet he is going to go crazy without his video games. I know how much boys love those!

Pat - Daughter comes home October 10th. It will be here before we know it. Sorry to hear you weren't feeling well. Hope it has passed by now.

Hubby had a rough day today. He got up at 3:00 am to get to the airport for his trip home from Canada. He flies in to O'Hare and then drives home. I'm sure you heard about all the flights being delayed or cancelled. He didn't get home until 4:30 pm. Luckily he was able to sleep on the plane and some at the airport. I worry about him driving that far when he's tired.

Thanks NJ I seem to be doing better now. Tummy still feels touchy but no more bid D. Worst thing was DH took my clothes to wash and I forgot my keys were in my pocket so they got wet-we really don't use a key on the car-just have the little power thing in the car to start it, etc. Hopefully DH got it out before it was ruined. If not, guess we will have to purchase another one.

Oh no! Pat, I sure hope you're feeling better by now. Didn't anyone tell your tummy that the timing stinks!?! Seriously, I do hope you're better real soon so you can enjoy that min-trip.
Great discount you got at Wall-Mart; and good for Vicky. I enjoy spending those coupons, too.
Thanks for your thoughts towards Tyler. I'm hoping the dr got thru to him, that he needs to take it easy for a few days. Bless your heart - and your brother. Having a hard head isn't all bad, right? emoticon I'm rather hard-headed, too.

Since Tyler's out of commission for tomorrow's soccer game, we'll all be attending Josh's games. I'm looking forward to that. I checked the weather forecast, and it should be really nice - no rain, decent temperature.

Nancy that was an awesome surprise to find all step bro's stuff gone and now you have time to freshen things up before DD arrives so that is nice. I have forgotten how soon does arrive? I am sure a bit of a slump is not totally unwelcome at work. However, I do know that it makes the day seem to crawl instead of flying by.
NJ so sorry about Tyler. It will be hard but hopefully he will be able to relax for a few days. Years ago my brother & I collided when playing softball-I was guarding the base and he was running and he is the one who ended up with a concussion! Guess I am truly a hard head emoticon
Got my walk in and then Vickie & I headed to W-Mart to get our bargains-I used the BOGO to get some cans of soup for quick lunches, and also several coupon items-my total was $78 and I ended up only paying $61 so a decent amount of savings.
Vickie had a $5 CVS bucks to use before it expired so we stopped so she could do that and I stopped at the bank to cash my beautification check. When we got back, I suddenly felt ill to my tummy and still not feeling great. I cannot get sick-we leave Sun for our mini trip!!!

Nancy, I'm glad things are a bit quieter at work right now. And you're right, I think feast or famine is the way things usually go. It always did for me.
emoticon I'm so glad step bro got his stuff out of your house. How kind of brother to come help him. That way you didn't have to deal with step bro coming over some evening. Terrific! that you were able to the smoke/musty smell out of the room. I'm glad your DD now has a room at your house that she can stay in when she comes. Doesn't have to sleep on the couch, or something.

Pat, here we thought that once our kids were no longer living under our roofs that we wouldn't have to deal with problems like Abbie and Darby have! Silly us. I'm so sorry Abbie is suffering renewed scabbing on her back. Hopefully the vet's shampoo will shortly work its magic.
I'm so sorry you had a bad experience with a root canal. One the one hand, I don't mind them because once the nerves are removed (the procedure he does), the pain is gone -- so for me, the pain before hand is worse than anything afterwards. On the other hand, I'm sick and tired of paying through the nose for expensive mouth work. Oh well, the Lord does always provide the $$.
It's great that you and Vicky finished the fall decorations; but I'm sorry you're already thinking about (and dreading) taking them down again. I'll appreciate the pictures once you can take and post them.
Wow! I'm impressed with your low temperature, and with the low humidity, it was probably real comfortable. We enjoy having no-heat/no-cool days, even if we don't open the windows.

As we finished at the animal shelter this a.m., got a call from DD asking that we pick Tyler up and meet her at his dr (office is closer to her work than Tyler's school). No problem. Got to the dr's office just before Michelle did. Tyler fell last evening, hitting his head on the sidewalk. Didn't break the skin, and seemed ok enough to go to school; but after he'd been there awhile, he complained of a headache, thus the trip to the dr today. Dr said Tyler's pretty much ok, but all things considered, he's to refrain from vigorous activity for about a week, and can't even do 'brain' things -- video games, reading, watching tv, thinking very hard. He's going to go nuts not being able to play video games.

If I did as much as you during the day, I'd be done by evening too! Especially with hither hest and humidity that you're working in. On the days we work I property I am completely useless when we're done.

My job has gone from feast to famine! Today I finished all of my work before 10:00. Now I'm just sitting at my desk responding to emails and helping people as needed. I had a nice surprise when I got home last night. I noticed a shipping box on my island that wasn't there earlier. I checked out spare room and all of step bro's stuff is gone! Brother has a key and helped him move it out. I was able to clean the room and get the smoky/musty smell out. I will wash all the bedding before daughter comes home.

Thank you Nancy, it does look nice. I will do some pics if we get a decent day. It has been overcast the past couple of days. I am not complaining as that keeps it cooler. We have the windows open again today. I did some pruning on the small trees that are in the entry island and they look much better.
I know the feeling about keeping moving but anymore, by evening, I am done!!!

NJ so glad to hear Darby is doing better. So hard when our furbabies can't tell us what hurts. Abbie's little scabs on her back are getting worse again and I use the shampoo from the vet, let it sit for 5-10 min when bathing and it is still an issue and she hates for me to pick them off. Vet says it is like acne on a teenager!
I wish you luck with the filling. I won't do another root canal. I have had a very bad reaction to whatever they treat you with so that will be my last one.
Nancy I hope you get your shopping and cleaning done. After work I was never a ball of fire so happy you are able to keep going. I really give out in the afternoons now.
Vickie and I finished up the fall decorating today after we got home from breakfast. Only 6 of us showed up today. Glad to have that chore done. Already dreading having to take them down and put them away. That is not good!
This afternoon I finished the deadheading of the roses up front.so that should be good for a couple of weeks.
I still have to do the pill boxes for the coming week and then will have to do them again on Sat for our trip-never ending job!!!!
We have had a bonus day today-our humidity has dropped and our temperature is about 75 with it being overcast. We have been able to turn off the a/c and open the windows. So nice to air out the house.

NJ - I hate going to the dentist too, but I don't have to take Valium. I,love the dentist in our old town and will make the 45 minute drive (one way) to see him, peace of mind is worth something.

Today has been quieter at work. I have my monthly reports done so now I just wait for people to need something. It seems like it's feast or famine. I'm enjoying the quiet time. Tonight I'm going to the grocery store and then will work on my house or yard. I think I'll do as much if the house as I can tonight and tackle the yard tomorrow.

emoticon Forgive me, Pat. That kind of thing has happened to us, too. (tv going off too early)
I'm glad you missed Mr. Chatty Cathy on your walk. I know you enjoyed the walk far more. How interesting that y'all had dinner with Mr. CC and his wife and enjoyed yourselves. I'm that was the case, since they are near neighbors. Great that you got in on such a super deal with the ribs.....I love ribs.
I shall have to pray for rain for y'all - I've lived through drought before, and every living plant just about gives up the ghost. Hopefully your dry spell won't get that bad. Wishing you and Vicky good luck with the decorating.
Saving several thousand dollars would sure be nice for everyone in the park. Hope the insurance deal pans out.
Thanks for your good wishes re: my cracked filling. I'm trying to be conscious to chew on the other side of my mouth, but do forget some of the time. I'd hate for the filling to fall out. emoticon

Nancy, I do think Darby is less bad off than she was yesterday, so hopefully that means the antibiotic and other medicine are working. She's not scratching, but is still licking some. Bless her heart, sometimes when she's in the room with us, she'll get up and go into another room so she can lick her feet. We try to be aware when she does that so we can make sure she doesn't lick. : D
I've had extensive fillings over the years, and a few of my crowns were because I needed another filling but there wasn't enough tooth left to do it. And while I've had multiple root canals, I also have a few teeth that got by with just crowns but no root canal. I'm not as bad off as one of my kids - she takes a Valium just to get her teeth cleaned.
I'm glad someone is looking at your resume, Nancy, and even called for an in-person interview, but I do understand turning it down for the reasons you stated. You have to know what you can live with (money and advancement opportunities) and stand firm.

DH and I watched the movie "Heaven is Real" which is based on a true story. Really good movie.

NJ - it sounds like Darby is getting better, I sure hope so. Maybe step bro has turned around. He supposedly finished the duplex on Sunday. According to brother, he is planning to work all week. He had to mud a wall a d ceiling in a bedroom on another house and then paint it. I think he is also trimming the hedge the the didn't do last time. We shall see. He has rented a storage unit and is moving his stuff out of our house this weekend. I don't think he has any plans to find an apartment anytime soon. He has to have a full time job first. He's applied at a could places, but I don't think he has much chance of getting hired. I'm sorry to hear about your tooth. I hope your dentist is able to fix it without having to do a crown. My dentist is able to work miracles in my opinion. I have at lead to e tooth that is more filling than tooth, but he was able to save it from a root canal.

Pat - How frustrating for Bill! I'm sure they couldn't come from they far behind in the last inning. It is the Cubs, right? My Dad wouldn't like to hear me say that, he was a die hard a Cubs fan. Mi sometime wish we had a tv in our bedroom, but I do t know if we would really watch it either. I probably would have it on for noise when I go to sleep. I've downloaded some meditation aps on my iPad and listen to them. It sounds like you had another productive day. It was nice of you to I vote the new neighbors to dinner.

I had a call last week to discuss my resume. They called back today t schedule an In person interview. They are only offering $12.00/hour and I already make more than that so I turned down the interview. I asked of there was any possibility for growth or more menu but she said no. I declined the interview, but told her to keep me on mind if anything higher laying opened up. At least someone was looking at my resume! I got a good start on my housework tonight. Tomorrow night I will get groceries and then get as much done as possible. I need to weed and mow this week too. I'm guessing it will be the last time weeding and maybe mowing too.

We went to bed quite early last night so we could watch the Cards/Cubs game so we were in bed a little after 8. I got pretty sleepy about 9:30 so I set the timer for 90 min and I was soon having sweet dreams! However, Bill had napped during the day so he stayed awake and was watching the game when at the bottom of the 9th, 1 out and 2 strikes on the batter the timer turned off the tv!!! He was a little miffed he missed the last little bit of the game but it was 8-0 in favor of the Cards so hopefully they didn't blow it. emoticon

I woke up before 6 since I went to sleep early and I was out to walk by 6:15. Chatty Cathy wasn't out so I lucked out! I met up with Vickie up front as she had walked even earlier than I did! She was watering the birds of paradise we had planted as the rain keeps missing us. We decided to work of our decorating this morning since it was overcast and not terribly hot-just humid. We headed home to eat and then met up about 8. We got it about half done as I had to go to a meeting at 10 (I was late as Bill's clock in the golf cart had lost time!). An insurance rep had come to give us a quote for our park insurance and since I am on the finance committee wanted to see what he had to say. If it is a firm number, it looks like we can save several thousand dollars by changing which would be good for the bottom line. By the time I got home from that it was 11:30.

While all that was going on, Bill & Sonny (Sonny drove) took our car up to Toyota for it's 5,000 mile checkup. We get 2 years of free maintenance. One of our back tires has been losing air so they checked it out and could not find anything wrong so hope they are right.

After lunch and watching the noon news, we got Abbie and I gave her a haircut. Bill holds her up on the kitchen table while I use the clippers. She will be staying with Barb while we are gone so I wanted ger hair to be short to be easier for her. I think I do as good a job as the groomer and this way it is exactly how I want it! I won't bathe her till Fri or Sat this week so she is nice and clean as they also let her sleep in bed with them.

I got my ironing caught up after that and then got cleaned up as we went to Oakwood tonight with Vickie & Sonny. They had a special all month of a full rack of ribs for $11.99 so thought we had best get there before we missed out!!! We invited new residents (Chatty Cathy & his wife) to go along and got to know them a little better. They live in KY. They just bought in July and have been down several times since then. They come and do work on the place and then go back. He has put in laminate in the bedrooms, replaced faucets, and installed a laundry sink so far and they have been working on the yard and shrubs. We didn't get back from that till after 7. Had a nice time visiting though.

Guess I will see what I can get accomplished tomorrow. Hopefully we can finish our decorating after our Wed. breakfast..

Rain is still missing us. Our high today was 82 and it was 71when we got up this morning. Just wish the humidity would drop some.

Nancy so happy you took a night to relax. We just have to do that occasionally or we get so worn down.

NJ sorry to hear that you have to have more dental work. I hope it all goes well.

Oh my, Pat. I love to talk as much as the next person, but to be stuck as you were yesterday had to be frustrating. I hope you don't 'meet' up with that neighbor every morning.
I'm glad you and Vicky finally got access to the decorations. Whew! For getting a slow start, you sure got a lot done yesterday. I'm glad it wasn't blistering hot when you finished working outdoors; but as I've observed before, high humidity is no joke.
I'm glad you were able to take the time to finish your e-book.
I hope you and Bill got plenty of rest last night and that all your tv shows recorded. : )

Me, too, Nancy, me, too. Some of Darby's redness is fading slightly, and she's not licking quite as much. So I'm hoping she won't need the collar -- whatever it's called. emoticon
I hope that step bro surprises you and has done all he said he would. You just don't need the stress and drama.
You have my sympathies about work. Three floors, even if all the same, is a lot; but the fact that they're all different makes it even worse. Good for you for taking last evening off and just chilling out. I hope it helped.

I didn't just have a cleaning at the dentist - they found a filling cracked in two places (yes, some of my fillings are that big!). I have to go back in a couple of weeks to get it replaced. I sure do hope it's just a replacement, because I'm NOT interested in another crown. Meanwhile, I'm trying to remember to chew on the other side of my mouth.

Y'all have a great evening.

NJ - I've never heard those collars reffered to as birthday hats before. I hope she doesn't have to wear it! We'll have to see if step bro has doe. Whst he was supposd to. I almost want t call the tenants to check but that may make my husband and I look bad. We'll probably end up there next weekend, the hedge still needs trimmed. I'm glad you're feeling better. Congrats on teaching the lefty to crochet. Good luck at the dentist tomorrow, I hope all goes well.I don't blame you for not going out on the roof. I don't like heights either. I bet you're glad that project is done.

Pat - I'm sorry your walk was interrupted. It was nice of you to take the time to stop and chat though. In spite of a late start, it sounds like you got a lot done. The pork chops and stuffing for dinner sound delicious! Early bedtime sounds nice to me. I'm tired today.

I'm glad my work day is over. I'm still covering three floors and they are all different so it can be frustrating when you're not sure what to do. I think between a couple of other people we got it all figured out. Between my early start today and the frustrating day still work, I'm exhausted tonight. I will probably skip doing any cleaning and just relax tonight. Hubby is gone until Friday so I still have three more nights. I might practice the piano for a bit and then watch a The Voice. I really enjoy that show!

Another busy Monday-up and out to walk by 6:30 BUT I got slowed down by a new resident. They bought a home one block down from us and he seems to sit on his back step smoking every morning even though it is early and today he was a chatty Cathy! I didn't think I was ever going to get away from him. I didn't get home till almost 8:30!!!! Sure messed up my plans for the morning but I managed to get most everything done.
After my yogurt, I headed up front and got two areas of roses deadheaded and then caught Dan and he finally got the maint. men to move the stoves so Vicky & I can get to our fall/Halloween decorations .Now just have to find time to get them out! She worked on some of the beds by the pool while I was upfront. Then it was home to work on my own yard. My sweet potato plant seems to always need pruned back and the elephant ear would take over if I would let it but I keep it contained to just one huge plant and pull out any of the babies that pop up.
It was 11:30 by the time I got done outside which is later than I like-it wasn't hot-only about 85, but very humid. After a shower, I fixed us both a sandwich and then cut out my coupons from Sunday's paper while we watched the noon news.
I put in a load of laundry and finally took time to finish up my e-book! I even read a magazine. By then it was time to start dinner and while it was baking, I worked on my ironing. I didn't get it done, but made a nice dent in it. I am setting things aside for our trip so I won't have much to do on Sat when I pack.
I made dressing and after browning my pork chops, I put them on top of the dressing and baked them for about an hour. Had that with mashed potatoes, corn and beets for dinner tonight.
I had hoped to get a short nap but that didn't happen so thinking we will go to bed early, let our shows record and watch the Cards play the Cubs. Then if I fall asleep I will already be in bed!!
Lori glad to hear you are feeling better. Seems a lot of folks have had issues early this year. Hope that doesn't mean it will be a bad winter!
NJ hope the hygienist doesn't find anything wrong while cleaning. I have to go in Oct. I got every 4 mo and wish I could stretch it out to 6 but do not want to do a deep cleaning so this is the compromise.
Nancy do hope step-bro did the work and that soon you will be able to sell both units and have a couple less worries. So sorry work is so stressful. Do hope they start listening and give you some answers. Working just isn't fun anymore it seems.

Thanks, Nancy, for wishing Darby well. She started on meds last Friday, but we aren't seeing much improvement yet. The vet's office called today to check on her, and when DH told them Darby's still licking her feet, they said that if things aren't better by Wednesday, we'll have to get a collar - what they call a 'birthday hat'. Somehow, I doubt Darby'd be celebrating much if she has to wear one.
I'm sorry you aren't getting your work questions answered. Gee, at least you ARE asking instead of letting things slide. What do they expect of you?! I hope that turns around real soon.
Great that y'all were able to get so much done Saturday. I, too, hope step bro has his act together enough that he doesn't let you down. I'm sure it's terribly frustrating to be disappointed time after time. Your DH is very kind to continue to try to help step bro.

Thanks, Pat. I was under the weather yesterday, so stayed home and napped. Got to feeling better by bedtime. I do so hate sinus infections! Mine tend to go down into my chest rather quickly, so when I KNOW I've got one, my dr sees my (not)smiling face. I just can't play around with asthma, so when sickness goes to my chest.....
I'm so glad you and Bill got to sleep in; I'm sure you needed the rest. When walking every day becomes a "I HAVE to do this" it's time to do something else, so I hope you didn't think twice about not walking yesterday.
I hate having to jump through hoops for layer after layer of approvals to get to where you want to be. I sure hope the funding for help for you and Vicky goes through without a hitch.

Lori, I'm so emoticon you're feeling better. I just watched the trailer for "God's Not Dead" and I want to see the whole movie! Thanks. I think we have Spiderman 2 on our Netflix list. And I want to add Empire State, too. The trailer looks good. We watched Red 2 some time back, and loved it. It's great to be old and crazy enough that you'll do just anything without worrying about what others think. emoticon
I'm glad you enjoyed the Chinese for lunch today. Sounds like you did a great job of not consuming a bunch of calories, and have plans to get rid of some of that excess of sodium. People keep mentioning Chinese, so I guess I'm going to have to lobby DH a little harder to take me to the restaurant - it's only about 3 miles from our house.

I'm to get my teeth cleaned tomorrow, so won't be going to the high school. Last week the teacher asked me to teach a student how to crochet this week, and I agreed. Problem: The student is LEFT-handed, and I'm not. But, I'd heard some years ago how to do it. You sit opposite each other, and as the RT-handed person crochets, the LFT-handed person can see what it should look like. Success! Too bad we only had just over an hour today to work on it.

When I came home, DH and I finished our painting project. Today we painted the 10 upstairs shutters, and a little while ago, DH screwed them back on the house. I handed the shutters to him, one at a time, out a 2nd story window. I'm terrified of heights, so I wouldn't get out there on the little bitty roof (most of it is over the porch).

After my dental appt tomorrow, I hope to run by JoAnn's and pick up a few things to knit a darling little backpack key ring. I couldn't get the whole pattern, but there are some lovely pictures, and I have the list of needed supplies. If I CAN knit this, I'll post a picture; but don't hold your breath - it's certain to be awhile before I even start.

That catches you up on me, and DH says it's time for dinner, so will close.
Have a great evening, y'all.

Pat - Step bro said he finished the duplex and got as far as he could on the other house. He mentioned something about trimming the hedges but I don't know if he started that or plans to do it this week. I tend to not listen to him because I don't believe a word he says. Of course, he could have realized how mad we both were last time and learned his lesson. We'll see. We are planning to sell both the duplex and the house, both are rented. I just want to be done with them. I did enjoy the day off. We didn't do anything but it was nice to relax. I did so e menu planning and played my piano.

Lori - I'm glad you're feeling better. It's no fun to be sick. Chinese food sounds delicious.

Work is back to being stressful again. So much to do and I have questions that aren't being answered. So frustrating.

Happy Monday!

Praise God I feel so much better today! emoticon

I finally have an appetite again so I gave in and had Chinese food for lunch today with my parents. It`s been a few years since I had Chinese and it was really tasty. I kept my portions small and ate 1/3 of what I was served so I`m not concerned that much with calories but I am concerned with all the sodium. I may do a mini detox tomorrow and just drink lemon water/herbal teas, smoothies & fresh veggies.

Even though we didn`t do a lot this weekend we still enjoyed just lounging around the house watching movies.

Here is a repost of my movie reviews:

God`s Not Dead
youtu.be/bMjo5f9eiX8
I REALLY loved this movie! I HIGHLY recommend it! emoticon

The Amazing Spider-man 2
youtu.be/DlM2CWNTQ84
We rented this for ds but I really enjoyed it as well! emoticon

Empire State
youtu.be/EaycdPGK8ek
This movie was ok but I was disappointed that "The Rock" wasn`t a main character in the movie.

Red 2
youtu.be/ZfB8QwYBPxY
I enjoyed this one even better than the original Red... Very entertaining, great actors.

NJ hoping you don't end up getting really sick. One of our friends fought a sinus infection for about 3 weeks before going to Urgent Care and they sent her to the ER. 9 hours later she got to return home! She is doing better now.

Nancy here is hoping step bro does what he is supposed to. Are you still planning on selling the duplex? Will you keep the other home or sell it? Is it rented? You were due a day off so hope you got to enjoy it.

We slept in this morning so I had 2 days this week I didn't do my hour or more of walking but it will be back at it tomorrow. Vickie & Sonny picked us up at 9 and we went to breakfast and then to church. We played cards this afternoon and the ladies were victorious!!!

I am certainly hoping that the rest of the committee and then the board will vote to hire someone to help us. If not, I fear things may go downhill as we just can't keep going indefinitely! However, it will not be in the budget until 2015 so we aren't done yet!!!

NJ - Thanks for the prayers about the job. I'm sure I'll find a good one. I just have to keep trying and not get discouraged and give up. I'm glad you had such nice weather for your painting. It's been. Ice here lately too. I did turn the air on again yesterday, it was pretty humid.
How frustrating that the snack bar was closed. I'm sire it was open this time since you took your own snacks. Isn't that how things usually go? emoticon I'm sorry to heard bout poor Darby. I hope she feels better soon. And you too.

Pat - I' glad you finally got the rain you needed. I'm also glad it stopped in time for you to go to the sale. How exciting they the finance committee chairman wants to give you money to help with the gardens! I hope the rest of the committee degrees. If not, they should get out there and help you! It sounds like a huge job for two people.

We spent yesterday at the duplex again. Finally got the bathroom done. Step-brother had to put another layer of mid on the ceiling so we weren't able to finish that. The guys did paint the rest of the ceiling. The part where the tub sits is a little lower than the rest of the ceiling. Step brother was going back today to finish that and work on the ceiling and wall of the other house we own. We bought my childhood house from the estate when my mom passed away and the duplex from my husband's sister the same year. I really hope that step brother finishes this project and that we don't end up regretting it. My husband is still trying to help him out by letting him work for us. It was nice to be deletion stay home today. I'll let you m ow how it turns out.

Well, wouldn't you know: just because I didn't check it before I wrote, I gave the yarn the wrong name. It's Red Heart's 'Team Spirit' and each skein has two colors (from various schools). For example, my grandsons' school district's colors are orange and black, so I made some hats from the orange and black yarn.

Pat, you are so right - taking care of our pets is not cheap, and we can't even claim them on our taxes. LOL
I'm glad the rain stopped so you could go to the yard sales. And what delightful-sounding finds. It does seem a little strange to be thinking of Christmas already, but it really isn't all that far off, is it!
I love the sounds of hiring someone to help you and Vicky get the gardening done..... especially the weeding. That ranks right up there as being no fun, and yet I do it for us!

Tyler's team lost today, but the score wasn't big: 1 - 0. Two of the coaches for the other team sounded like they were from South Africa. Could be they give that team quite an advantage. Josh and our DD sat with us under the canopy, and Josh and I kept up a commentary on soccer - neither of us really understands it. LOL Had a good time.

emoticon I hope it's my imagination, but I feel like I'm coming down with something, possible a sinus infection. [whimper, whimper] I'm going to take my 'pity party' to bed and will plan to correspond with y'all tomorrow. Have a great Sunday.

NJ Abbie also has allergies. Our vet prescribed special shampoo for her, told us to wipe her feet with baby wipes when she is scratching a lot, I have to bathe her every 5-7 days, and she has gotten shots! I have taken to keeping her hair short to make it easier. She has little scabs on her back-vet says it is like acne on a human! Never a dull moment and of course as you well know it doesn't come cheap either!!
The rain stopped a little before 8 so we did go to 2 yard sales today. The wet was a little bit of an issue but we still enjoyed getting out. We got a metal angel to use during the Christmas holidays and a nice ceramic house we set in one of our gardens. I like accent pieces in with the flowers.
Vickie and I dug up some birds of paradise today but didn't get much root so hoping they will grow. Guess we will find out! We put out 3 of them. We also changed a spring wreath and put up a fall one. The stoves have still not been moved so we cannot get to the rest of our decorations.
I got word today from the finance committee chairperson that she thinks we should allocate money for someone to help Vickie and I with the gardens. emoticon I hope the rest of the committee agrees and we get the $$$ to use. It would be nice to be able to hire someone to do the weeding for us. Or at least most of it.

Yes, Pat, it IS a shame that parents won't volunteer. At the boys' baseball games, the home team has the responsibility to man the refreshment stand. Usually each parent who volunteers one game only is in the stand for a few innings, then someone else takes over. Also, whoever works the stand this game doesn't have to do it the next time. DH and I have taken a few turns in the stand so DD can watch her sons play. I've also seen other grandparents behind the counter. I don't know what the soccer habits are, but apparently nobody is in charge of it. In one sense it's a thankless job, because as you say, few people are willing to do it, so the ones who do get burned out.
I recall you talking about sealing the concrete edging. Another never-ending job. : ) Just like housework. Ha!
I'm glad you're getting rain, but hope it stopped so you could go to the big yard sale this morning.

Y'all may remember a year or so ago when I mentioned our Darby emoticon has seasonal allergies. The vet gave her some meds, and then she was able to go off them, but still needed a change in her diet. Her food is salmon-based, not meat, and we watch what toys we give her - so many are 'chicken (or beef) flavored'. While antlers are expensive, they're good for her to chew on.

Anyway, Darby was doing fine until just recently, so DH took her to the vet yesterday. She's on two pills and something to wipe her feet (once a day); plus they've ordered a shampoo that we'll need to use on her legs and feet. Poor baby is SO miserable. She's scratching behind her stubby ears when we're not watching, licks her feet (they're swollen and very red), and rubs her face on everything and everybody. And she's not even as bad off as she was a yr ago. Still, we should have paid more attention and taken her to the vet earlier, so we feel guilty.

I knitted a hat (using Red Heart's "School Colors") and now am working on a matching scarf. I started it last night, and plan to take work on it in the car to and from Tyler's game today. Since it's an hour's drive each way, I'll should be able to get a few inches done. ; )

Have a wonderful weekend y'all.

NJ it is a pity that the parents won't step up and volunteer but likely those who did volunteer have been used up like I feel is happening to me. Everyone always wants it to be someone else to do it and eventually they to throw in the towel!
Glad you are having great weather to get your painting done. One certainly doesn't want to do it when it is too hot but then again too cold is not good either. Keeping one's home looking nice is a full time job! I had to seal our concrete edging this summer and that was a bugger-I did it over 3 days so I could do it early in the morning when it was cool.
Nancy glad to hear that you are using the money wisely and paying things off. We have so many seniors in the area who have gotten them self in trouble. Even some folks in The Villages have lost their homes. One can never be too careful or have too much put away when it comes to retirement. Seems every year is another "surprise" we didn't count on!!
We are still getting some light rain. Hoping it clears up for morning as we plan to go to a big yard sale if it isn't raining.

Pat, how nice to be able to watch so much of nature practically in your own back yard - the wild animals, the lake, all of it.
Sometimes you just have to chill - and not feel at all guilty about it. I know from reading your postings that you definitely deserve a day off. Certainly, as you mentioned, all the work will be there the next day; unless you have little fairies come in while you sleep - but I seriously doubt you have them cuz there aren't any fairies at MY house. LOL
I'm glad you did get some rain and hope there wasn't much thunder. I know you've been needing the rain.
You are SO RIGHT about income during in retirement, including Social Security - it's anything BUT secure because Congress won't keep their grimy little hands off it.
Thank you for thinking good thoughts about my kittens. I don't know whether I should call the shelter early in the week and ask if the quarantine is lifted, or not. Haha.

Nancy, we do have vinyl siding, but the shutters, garage and front doors are all metal and the sun fades them something fierce.....so, paint. : ) We only have the 10 upstairs shutters to paint, and hope to do them early next week. DH takes them down, gets rid of the wasp nests, and cleans behind where the shutters were. Since we do have vinyl siding, it wouldn't be a good idea at all to paint them in place.
Knitting - when you're ready, you'll loosen up, promise. A good place to start would be to used worsted weight yarn and needles that aren't too small. I sometimes still tend to knit tightly with smaller needles.
You are so smart to pay off everything you can before retirement.
Congratulations on the interest in you (job wise). I'm praying God will lead you to 'the' job He wants you to have.

So today we painted the front door, the trim around the double patio door, and the double garage door. We've had beautiful, wonderful, fantastic weather this week. It's been a bit cooler than normal, but we're lovin' it. Not only has it been good for painting, but we're no-heat, no-cool and that's great!

Josh doesn't have a baseball game tomorrow, but we do need to drive a good hour to Gettysburg to watch Tyler's soccer game. I'm glad we'll be taking our canopy. I just hope that place has an (open) snack bar, but I plan to take some drinks and a sandwich plus some fruit. I think I mentioned that when we went to Ty's home field a few weeks ago, that the snack bar wasn't open because they couldn't find volunteers to man it!!!! Just thinking about it still annoys me. I mean, it hit 90+ degrees, and the players, at least, needed all the drinks they could get. There are 10 fields at that location and all were busy all day; but they couldn't scare up volunteers to man the snack bar?!! Ok, I'm off my soap box again. : D

NJ - It is a huge relief that we do t have the house any more. It will be an even bigger relief when we sell the duplex and the other house that we own! This year had been rough with all the work we've had to do. I don't envy you having to paint all those shutters. I'm happy we have vinyl siding and shutters. One less hung to worry about! I didn't have the patience for my mom to teach me. A co-worker finally taught me to crochet. I still haven't mastered knitting. I think I'm too tense for that. My work is very tight

Pat - I'm glad you took a day off. I'm sure you needed the rest. You are always so busy! My husband should have a decent pension plus my small pension and SS. I do plan to save as much as we possibly can. We paid off our credit card and out the rest of the money in savings. The credit card Bill was huge due to all the expenses we've had with property this year. We will probably pay off my husband's truck once we're sure we won't have to pay income tax I. The sale of the house. We play to have everything but he mortgage paid off before we retire.

I am so glad it's Friday. I did t want to get up this morning. I had a call yesterday about one of the jobs I've applied for. Just a preliminary screening call, but at least I know they didn't just toss my resume out! We'll see what happens. I'll just keep sending resumes until I finally get a different job

Another nice morning for my early walk-about 73 today. We had a high of 90 and they just said on tv that it felt like 97 but I didn't think it felt that bad out there. However I have not spent a great deal of time outside today. We did spend a couple of hours in the pool, went down there at 3 this afternoon. Felt pretty good in the water. We love watching the birds on and by the lake. We had a hawk that was eyeing some Moore hens. Boy were they squawking at him. Got a little noisy for several minutes. We have been seeing an eagle for the past several weeks. It was cruising by above the lake and came really close to the pool today. I just love watching it fly and float up there-so majestic. Last night we were down by the lake watching the sun set and had a small gator close to the shore and a big gator out just past the boat dock.

I didn't get much accomplished today. I was wiped out from the past several days so didn't push myself. In fact, I feel asleep watching the noon news. I am trying to finish my e-book and still need to get back at it so I get it done before they zap it back! Will just push the items on my to-do list to tomorrow or the next day!!! It certainly is not going to run away from me and doubt anyone else is going to come and do it for me.

Hearing some thunder so maybe we will get lucky and get a little rain. It has been missing us for days. We have to go out and water every evening so hoping I won't have to tonight!

Nancy emoticon So happy closing is done and that worry is behind you and I agree that banking the money was a wise decision. I hate to say this but retirement will be coming and let me tell you we are finding every day that what we thought would take care of us isn't doing it. Things keep going up but our income isn't! The raise for SS is a joke and doesn't even cover the rising cost of insurance so every year we lose purchasing power. I tell everyone to just keep sticking back everything you can and then squeeze in some more till it hurts because of how things are going.

NJ hope that next week all the little kitties are out and about and life will get easier for you. Poor little things.

Pat

Wow, Pat! You sure did get a lot done Tuesday. Good for you. While I would never wish tanker trucks of rain on anyone, I do hope you get SOME......after everyone is asleep, and it stops an hour before you get up in the morning......and special for Miss Abbie - no thunder.
You mentioned laughing so hard that you cried. Just think of how much good you did your body, especially your heart. emoticon

Nancy, emoticon emoticon emoticon I'm so happy that closing went well, and you no longer have to be concerned about that house. Not only will you not have to drive all that way to mow, etc; but I know your mental load is lightened now, too.
Thanks for the reminder that some places do have entrée salads. I'll have to check that out Saturday.
I'm sorry step bro is like that; but at least you're 'on to him' so he can't pull the wool over your eyes. Good luck.
I'M thankful the railing didn't take two coats, although there might be a small spot or two that needs to be touched up. Am waiting until we finish all the painting we plan to do. I'm just grateful that we have vinyl siding - no painting THAT!! We did 10 shutters yesterday, and still have 10 more to do, plus the front door and the garage door. Then, touch-ups, and then I QUIT! emoticon
My Mom was a lefty, and when I asked her to teach me to knit (I was in 5th gr), she gamely tried. The problem wasn't her being able to switch the knitting from her left hand to my right hand - back in those days all they had were brittle plastic needles, and after I broke the 2nd one, she urged me to wait until I got a little older and could knit looser. As for crocheting, I tried the mirroring with my then-seven yr old granddaughter, but she got bored. At least I know it's possible to do it that way.
Muy intelligente, my friend. That's Very intelligent in Spanish (unless I spelled intelligent wrong). Anyway, you guys are very smart to bank your money until you know whether or not you'll be moving.

The kitten room MIGHT be un-quarantined after the weekend.....just so long as no new cases of ringworm show up. I've knocked on so much wood today, my knuckles are raw. LOL Seriously, I'm about holding my breath that it all works out. There's just one kitten in the basement with ringworm, and two more to keep in company. Of course, they all are in separate cages, but the two girls being in the same room will keep their "brother" company until he heals.

Sorry, but it's about nap time. My eyes are getting heavier and heavier. Have a great rest of the day.

NJ - If they offer entree salads that should count towards the coupon purchase. Step brother isn't going to change. He's been like this far too long. He has told so many different lies I think he believe them himself. He tells my husband one thing and will tell his brother something entirely different. He does do good handiwork, but you have to constantly watch him and keep nagging at him to do the job. I'm glad the railing didn't require two coats of paint. I bet you're happy that job is done! I'm a lefty and had a hard time learning to crochet. A lady at work ended up teaching me. I don't remember is I sat across from her, but that's a good idea.

Pat - You had such a productive day and fun too! We used to play cards with family or friends and I miss those days. We grew apart from the friends and moved say from most of the family. Our schedules now are so busy that when we're home we just veg out in front of the TV.

We closed on our daughter's house yesterday! The closing was at 2:00 but hubby said to take the whole day off work. We slept I and then went to breakfast at our favorite breakfast spot in the town we used to live in. We slept so late by the time we got there it was lunch time, but they serve breakfast all day. It was an hour drive so we were starving by the time we got there. Then we did a few errands and went to the closing. All went smoothly and it's over now. We ran more errands then stopped for an early dinner at TGIFridays. We talked about buying a hot tub, but with my husband gone so much I didn't think it would be a fair investment. Plus winter is coming and I wouldn't use it then. There is also a chance the the night be transferred after the first of the year and we wouldn't move a hot tub so we put the money in savings instead.

Lori hope you emoticon

Nancy I do hope step bro will come thru for you. It is so hard to depend on someone and they let you down time after time. Will keep fingers crossed!

NJ hope that you have a good week. I will surely be happy this winter when we aren't freezing and shoveling snow, but sometimes the heat will wear one down.

I did get my walk in and then did the weeding-got the rest of the front of the clubhouse done, around 3 palm trees and the bed in the circle in front of the clubhouse so got quite a lot taken care of. Vicky did the rest of the planting as we had company coming so I had to come home to get cleaned up. Glad that project is taken care of. We so far haven't gotten the rain that was predicted but we are watering every day so that will take care of that problem!
We had a late breakfast with our friends Don & Lin and then played cards with them and Vickie & Sonny. Ladies were victorious again!! We were all messing up something terrible. We laughed so hard we cried!!! One would have thought we were drunk. Got our laugh quota in for certain. Later this afternoon we went to dinner with V&S and Gary & Margaret. They are our friends who have sold their home and they are moving back to OK, They were planning on leaving tomorrow but now leaving Thur as waiting on $$$ for their home to arrive.
Full day but enjoyable.

Thanks for the heads-up, Nancy. I think I'll go online and see what I can figure out. DH wants to use a coupon that requires we buy two entrees. I'm going to see if I can get a salad for less than an entrée, that would save at least as much as the coupon's worth. : )
I'm glad DD only has to handle one call at a time - can't imagine trying to juggle two or more. Haha. Still, I'm sure she was very busy.
I'm hoping step brother will surprise everyone and shape up, at least to help you finish the repairs, and to get his stuff out of your property. While taking it to Goodwill, or some other such 'fix' seems a bit harsh, I know you have to be very firm with him. Bless your heart. I hope that if step bro doesn't take care of things himself, that you and your DH can come up to a mutually agreeable solution.
Yes, painting the railings was time-consuming and hard; what with the bending and climbing up and down a step ladder. But at least now it's done, and it doesn't look like it needs a second coat. emoticon

Pat, I'm with Nancy - glad you have the good sense to wait until the temps aren't at their highest when you work outdoors, and taking advantage of the swimming pool. : )
Having lived down south for a number of years, I do understand taking whatever less-hot temps you can get. And Nancy had it right when she said you can laugh at us when we're experiencing below zero temps this winter. emoticon I do love living here (even tho I do complain sometimes) with our four seasons. And I've always been partial to Fall.

Lori, I don't know if you're getting online at all right now, but I want to extend my best wishes for a speedy recovery from whatever has you sick. Take really good care of you, and we'll talk with you when you'll well. We'll miss you in the meantime.

I am enjoying my one school period a week at the hi school. I was actually helpful today, and felt really good about that. I already know what I'll be doing next week. There's a "lefty" who needs to learn how to crochet, and the teacher has trouble doing it left-handed. I told the student that we'll work on it next week, and since I'm a "righty" I'll have the student sit across from me so it 'mirrors' so she can follow along. I've heard that helps a righty teach a lefty.

Today, DH and I were with the 2nd graders for the first time this school year. [groan] Now I have to work extra hard to match 20 or so names with new faces/children. It's something that is SO HARD for me - adults or children. Oh well, the effort should be good for my brain. emoticon

Well, I need to get on to other things. Hopefully, I'll be able to check back on Sparks before bedtime.
