hi Nancy i know I haven't been on here much. Been dealing with a lot of health issues lately. I might as well update you about it. I have been seeing a pain specialist for my plantar fasciitis since Sept. 2014. I have had success with them I have had trigger point injections where they find the tight band of muscle that causes the pain and eases the pain that way. I also had an epidural steroid injection done today for left leg pain since I have tarsal tunnel in my left foot. I told my pain doctor who does the injections about the back pain and knee pain and we agreed to do to a injection in my left knee as well. That will be done on the 9th of Feb. My mom will be going with me. Since they want her with me to begin with.

NJ glad that you were able to finally get to the school and start work with the students,
This weather is sure crazy. We have frost warnings out for tonight but after this we are to get back to more normal temps. I am looking forward to the weekend-79 on Sunday.

Pat, I'm so glad you brother made it out safely. I'm also glad you were able to get your walk in yesterday - I know you miss it when you can't get out. It's too bad you struck out at the farmer's market.
It's just plain sad (disappointing) when people tell you they'll do something, then they don't, and not even let you know they won't be able to. Good for you for being able to get out and weed the area so the guys can mulch.

Laura, your new class sounds interesting. I'm wishing good luck with all the research and creating the communications campaign.
It's nice when the snow melts even a little. : )

Today is sunny - quite chilly, but sunny. The night time temps are bottoming out. Ugh. And the daytime temps are in the mid-20's. Oh well, at least it's late January. Only ump-teen more weeks of winter. LOL

I was finally able to start helping at the high school in the Advanced Textile Arts class. The class is small, about a dozen, including one boy. It's nice to work with students who already know a LITTLE about knitting and crocheting.

Never, EVER give up. Just pick yourself up and keep going.

Laura what kind of a degree are you going for? It has been so long since I graduated-1984! I was working full time and went to night school for 2 1./2 yrs to do 2 yrs of school. Now that I look back I wonder how I did it. I did 2 yrs in a junior college and then transferred to a university for my degree.
We are cooler today than it was yesterday BUT it is not as windy so that is a plus. I need to go do some more weeding so thinking I will head out in a few minutes and clean another bed.

NJ. glad that the big storm did not dump on you. pat that caulifower recipe sounds good. We even made a potato salad once using cauliflower and that is good too. I am not quite sure what went on with the ones who left. All they said was there was some kind of misunderstanding between them and the leaders. My new class is called Cultures, Organizations, and Communications. I have to create a communications campaign based on other successful campaigns organizations like Breast Cancer Awareness did. So I have to do a lot of research first. It was a little warmer today and some of the snow melted.

NJ Glad you didn't have any problems making your dr's appointment. My DB made it out ok. He left early in case he had problems and said he ended up having to sit a couple extra hours waiting till his flight departed,
We were still cool and windy today but I got out and about. Did my walk and later we went to another farmer's market with friends-guys hoped to get farm fresh brown eggs but the vendor wasn't there today. Wanted to get another melon from Sam;s like I had gotten on Fri-struck out again, they had none today! Just not our day.
I pulled weeds this afternoon-another lady had volunteered to do it but still not done and I have mulch coming tomorrow so needed it done so the maintenance men can spread it. I hate it when I can't depend on someone doing something but happy I was able to take care of it. I am trying to get the bed cleaned and want to get them mulched while it is still cool.

Congratulations, Laura! It's no easy thing to get an "A" in college courses. Good luck with the new class. What is it in?
I'm sorry your church has lost another family. That's tough, and I'm sure you'll miss them since they used to lead the worship services.

Nancy, my DH traveled every week the last 3+ years before he retired, and that left clearing snow to me. We, too, have a snow thrower, and I for one, am glad as it made snow removal so much easier.

Pat, congrats to you girls for winning at cards.
I hope your DB is safe and can, indeed, catch a flight home tomorrow.
Sorry about the wind, especially since it included rain. Too bad that plus the temperature interfered with your plans to go to the farmers' market.
The cauliflower sounds good, thank you for the recipe.

Our weather update - thankfully, we didn't get quite as much snow from the first storm as we feared, and now that the clipper has passed us, our concern was the coastal storm - but that, too, is only dropping a few scattered snow showers. Praise the Lord! As it was, many, many schools had a 2 hr. delay. But I had an early dr appt this morning, and PA DOT did a rather good job on the major roads, so it turns out that I didn't need all the extra time I'd built in to the drive. DH sat and read and I crocheted while we waited until the dr. came in. LOL All went well at the dr office; she increased a couple of my meds, and I should feel better in a few weeks.

I hope to catch the Super Bowl commercials program that's on in less than an hour. They are generally very entertaining. The commercials are the main reason I watch any of the Super Bowl. Haha

Never, EVER give up. Just pick yourself up and keep going.

Laura sorry to hear you have lost more members. Churches are like families and go thru growing pains and have loss same as families do. Hoping this is not because of other issues in the congregation just that they are moving away from the area.

NJ do stay in and stay safe. My DB is in DC-had to fly up Sun. for a couple of days and he is hoping he will be able to fly out tomorrow evening after he gets finished.

We had more rain overnight and it is extremely windy outside. I sure had fun walking this morning. I haven't done a lot outside today because of the wind.
We had wanted to go to the farmer's market but decided to not go because of the weather. It is still in the low 60's but the wind makes it feel a lot cooler.

I tried something new tonight and I thought it was awesome.

If you like cauliflower try this:

Cut cauliflower into bite sized florets
Lightly brush with light olive oil
Sprinkle with parmesan cheese and garlic salt
Bake at 425 for about 15 min turning it as it starts to brown
It should be a crusty tender when done
Enjoy

NJ - I'm sorry you're getting all they snow. I don't blame you for not wanting to drive in it, I wouldn't either. Stay safe! My neighbors do t offer to,shovel or plow my drive. It's okay, I have a snow blower and it makes it so much easier.

Pat - Congrats on the girls being so successful at cards! I'm jealous of your 64 degrees. Although, we were in the low 40's this weekend so it wasn't too bad.

Need prayer for our church; we had another family leave us. They were in charge of the worship services too. It makes me sad to see them go. Last year we had 2 families leave. Finances are tight for our church too and we never have a full church anymore. Otherwise I am in a new class this coming week and going to try to get things done on time.Finished with another A in my last class.

Any of you in the way of this new storm, please be very careful if you have to get out in it.

We are a lot cooler today-out high today was about 64 but very sunny so it felt good with a light jacket.

We had a nice full church this morning. This afternoon we played cards and the ladies were victorious again. Actually feel sorry for the guys.

Goodness! I've sure gotten behind!

Pat, what great news that you only need to go to the cardiologist once a year. emoticon That kind of news always lifts your spirits, I know.
It sounds like you had a really nice Thursday last week. And while your temps then were nice, I see things have turned "south" - sorry.

Laura, good for you for doing those exercise videos. emoticon
You, Nancy (in Illinois) and I sure know winter's bitter side. I hope you're staying warm, and don't have to shovel snow all season - I hope there's some kind neighbor who'll take care of it for you.

Sharon, I'm glad you're not having strange/severe weather. And it's really good that you aren't getting too wet on your commute.
I'm so sorry about the dog you've dog-sat. I know you're sad, and I hope you keep lots of happy memories of her in mind these next weeks and months.

Oh yeah, Nancy. Just sitting makes me tired, too. I hope things go better this week. I'm glad you're enjoying yourself, and beginning to get to know folks, as well as reconnect with someone from your old job.
I hope you haven't gotten/aren't getting lots more snow. Be safe, however much snow you get.

Well, if you've been watching or listening to the news, you know we're getting part of the Clipper that's racing across the country. And it's expected to turn into a "coastal" storm, and while we only maybe will get more snow from that, the Northeast is looking for FEET of snow. As it is, we may get 5-7 inches of the 'fluffy', cold, white stuff between now and when everything moves offshore by Wednesday. I have an 8:00 a.m. dr appt tomorrow. sigh. At least DH is insisting (as if I'd resist) that he drive me there and back.

Well, life moves on. I hope you all are having a wonderful start to a fantastic week.

Never, EVER give up. Just pick yourself up and keep going.

We're getting some snow here today. It's not sticking yet, but they're saying we could get two inches. I can't complain, this wi ter has been very mild compared to last year.

Sorry I haven't checked in all week. I was exhausted after work. We did a lot of sitting snf listening and a lot of training modules on the computer. It always amazes me how tired I get from just sitting. I'm sure it was mental exhaustion from learning all about the company. The actual training starts next week. I hope I'm not as tired, but am afraid I will be until I get the gyst of the we job. I'm meeting new people and getting to know a fir, I ised to work with better. She had left our previous job before I did. I was pleasantly surprised to see her on my first day. She took a job with a different company and I had no idea she had applied for this job. I didn't have much contact with her when we worked together before. She's nice and I'm glad we're working together again. We aren't on the same team, but she only sits two rows from me.

You all are having some flukey weather! Ours is behaving as expected for this time of year; sometimes rain, mostly cloudy. I haven't gotten caught in it too much during my commute, which keeps me from complaining:)
NancyJ, that's a good amount of snow! I'm glad you didn't get more. I hope your daughter got home safely that night.
Nancy, congrats on getting the awkward parts of your new job figured out. How nice of them to treat you to snacks and lunch.
Pat, great to hear that your cardiologist is happy enough to see you only once a year.
Laura, you're up to a lot of great things! Great job with your classes. School is not easy. I commend you for sticking with it and working hard at it. Your work outs sound like fun.
One of the dogs I've dog-sat a lot in the past 10 years has terminal cancer:( She'll probably go to the Rainbow Bridge sometime next week. I get to see her (and her human) later today. I'm obviously very sad but she's a very happy dog even when she doesn't feel well and she's had a great life. I'm trying to stay focused on that.
Other than that, I'm looking forward to a mellow weekend of getting things done around the house.
I hope you all have a great weekend.

Laura you reminded me that about 10 yrs ago we had a group of ladies who met and did a couple of different Richard Simmons workout sessions. We had a fun time doing it.

We hit 76 again today but rain came in and it is still raining tonight and tomorrow our high is supposed to be in mid 60's. Looking like that will last thru mid week next week. Ugh!

Pat you make me long for spring to come back again with your warm temperatures. It was in the 20's here today. Finished my Richard Simmons workout; I did his dancing one and the strength one afterwards as well. I lost track how many exercises were included with the dancing. I just logged the strength one afterwards. I am not good at counting exercises as I do it.

We hit 76 for our high today-I didn't even have to bundle up to walk early! Had a great day. Got 2 loads of laundry done, got in over 12,000 steps, did my grocery shopping, and went out to dinner with friends.

Pat, your temps yesterday sound good to me. : ) Good for you for getting DH out for a walk, whatever its length. At least he's moving.
I'm glad things are going well in your corner of the world. Just makes life a lot nicer. I hope you had good results from your cardiologist's appt.
Since you like liver and onions, I'm sorry you couldn't have any. Glad you were able to select some healthier grub, though.

I confess that I've never liked liver and onions from childhood onward. DH does, and I used to fix it with some bacon. I would choke down some liver with lots of bacon and onions, but no more. Every since an unspecified incident about 36 years ago, I haven't allowed liver in the house. You really don't want to hear the details; but DH is understanding about my decision.

KUDOS, Laura, for getting your exercise in yesterday, and I'll bet the Beach Body Booty Sculpt is fun to do. emoticon
Today turned out a bit warmer than you; but not by much. And we got snow yesterday, to the tune of about 3-4 inches. When we got up this morning, some areas were still getting snow (not us), but the fog was dense everywhere. Still, we were safe on the road as we set out early for the animal shelter.

Never, EVER give up. Just pick yourself up and keep going.

Pat I am jealous of your nice temperatures there. Liver and onions sounds good to me too. I wonder if a person can bake that stuff instead of fry it. It is hard to keep eating healthy when others are not. I got all my exercise in today. I walked and then did Beach Body Booty Sculpt. It is where you wiggle and shake your body as you sculpt it; makes it more fun. NJ it is anly around in the twenties here and we had a dusting of snow on Tuesday.

NJ our average temp this time of the year is about 70/49 but that is just an avg figure. Today we started out at 54 and up to 75. It is the kind of day you start out in jeans and long sleeved shirt and a vest and then change into capris and a t-shirt..
It has been another full day-Wednesday is our breakfast day-we only had 12 come today. That is an early morning-we leave home at 7:15. We were back home before 9 and Vickie & I got in our walk and I got DH to walk a small round (about 1/3 of a mile) and he is going to have to work back up to walking longer distances as he hasn't walked for several weeks.
We had our annual meeting at 1 and I had to leave at 1:30 for my cardiologist appt. I was back by 2:15 and that ended about 3:15. We have elected a new board for the coming year and made a few changes to our rules and all is well in our little corner of the world.
We took Bob & Ellie to a new restaurant this evening. It is known for it's liver and onions. I could not have that on my diet-I settle for grilled chicken and green beans and beets which were all acceptable diet foods for me. The others enjoyed their liver & onions!

Lori, two days in a row in the 60's......I'd be jealous, but I know Spring WILL come to South-Central PA......some year. LOL Here's hoping you're having a wonderful week.

Laura, we miss you when you can't come on our discussion thread, but wow! You have a lot on your plate. Thanks for letting us know. I'm sorry your knee was painful yesterday and hope it feels better today.
What a shame that some people feel you have to use cuss words and "questionable" situations in order to have a "real-life" book/movie/screen play. SOME of us DON'T use those things in our REAL lives! KUDOS for talking to the professor about it.

Our snow started late (around 10:00 instead of 7:00) this morning, and it's going like crazy. We're supposedly only to get 1-3 inches, but I think we'll end up with more. I was supposed to start working with the advanced textile arts students at the high school today. The teacher called me early to say they were having an early dismissal, so classes were compressed and I should wait until next week. emoticon I was so looking forward to working with the students, but this really is far better than letting the snow pile up until the usual time to go home. I am somewhat concerned for my daughter and her hubby driving home at evening rush hour. I've been praying for their safety all day.

Since the snow is to stop sometime this evening, we plan to go to the animal shelter tomorrow as usual. DH may have to lift his feet a little higher as he walks the dogs emoticon but I'll be toasty warm as I clean the kitten room.

{yawn} I think it's nap time. emoticon

Never, EVER give up. Just pick yourself up and keep going.

Hi everyone;
Sorry i am such a no show in here. It seems i get all side tracked with my classes. I am in between now and my next class does not start until next Monday. So far all my grades were A's, even on a screen play i did. I had to rewrite it because the other two i worked with did nto format it right. Also they had swear words in, and what they thought was funny in it; I thought was in poor taste. Especially for a medical facility; so i rewrote it during Christmas break. Then I asked the professor if i could revise it and resubmit it. She agreed and i did just that. Trying to work out but have one bad knee that is hurting today. Think I have arthritis in it.

Nancy glad you enjoyed the movie. NJ you lucky dog! Getting a massage; I never had one yet. Weather is better here than it was 2 weeks ago. Trying to clean house in between classes and maybe have my friends over again. had to buy a card table and chairs from Walmart. All our chairs are going to pot.

You can call me Laura.
I live in Peshtigo , Wisconsin.

Nancy, thanks or the review of the movie. It's good to know that it's close to the book. Speaking of books made into movies, many years ago I read "Three Days of the Condor" and was excited when the movie (with Robert Redford, not less!) came to a theater near us. I went to the movie, and was very disappointed that it was changed a lot from the book. : )
So who was so excited about her first day that she couldn't sleep?! I'm so happy for you that you had such a good first day. It sure was nice of your coworker to point out a better parking spot. Ouch! A 10 minute walk in dress shoes. They sure were happy to see y'all - providing muffins and bagels for breakfast and boxed lunches. Woo-Hoo! I'm proud of you for only take a small muffin, and glad you enjoyed your lunch.

Pat, I would have worn ear muffs yesterday morning, too! 46 is cold anywhere, but the 71 was rather nice. What are the 'normal, average' temps in the winter where you live?
I don't go to our local farmers' markets as often as I should, but agree that it's nice to get fresh, locally grown produce. Our closest market is about 12 miles away.
It was nice that you were able to visit with folks after you'd worked so hard in the park gardens.

Have a emoticon day, everyone; may your day be emoticon

Sharon it is sounding like you all made a wise decision with this move. So happy you have found a place you feel safe using your kayak. We too like to support the Mom & Pop restaurants but they also have to give us good food and service.
Nancy I am glad that 1st day is behind you and it was a good day. Sounds like you are on the right track. Glad you gave yourself some slack and didn't push yourself too hard tonight.
NJ glad you feel your meds are starting to kick in. Hopefully soon you will be back to "par".
I agree with you, give me sunny days anytime-sure affects my mood.
Today was a beautiful day here. Started out at 46 and got up to 71. I had to change from jeans and a long sleeved shirt I wore this morning to capris and a t-shirt. I even wore ear muffs when I walked! We went to a farmer's market about 10:30 and I got some nice fresh fruits and veggies-lots cheaper than the grocery store!
This afternoon Abbie got her bath and I worked on weeding down by the office. I want to get that area mulched and hopefully it will help keep the weeds down. I had planned on ironing but DH was holding court so when I got home I sat down and visited with folks!
Hope everyone has a terrific Tuesday.

NJ - The movie was excellent. Definitely worth seeing at the theatre. I haven't read the book yet, but my husband had and said the movie is pretty much the same as the book. A lot of times books and movies aren't the same. I'm glad you enjoyed your massage, especially after the mistake with the scheduling.

Pat - It sounds like you're doing well worth the diet. Sorry The first dinner out wasn't very good. I'm glad the next dinner out was better.

Sharon - I'm glad you had a good weekend and found a park where you can kayak safely.

I am one tired lady tonight! I woke up at 3:00 am and couldn't get back to sleep. I got up at 4:30, did a little Sparking and then worked out. I wanted to leave early so I'd get to work o p,entry of time. It's a good thing I did! I got confused about where to park and had to walk 10 minutes. One of my new coworkers to,d me how to get where I need to park tomorrow. After work I drove that way and figured it out for tomorrow. Other than that, today went well. We didn't do much, just listened to some of the leaders and managers talk about how excited they are to work there and to have us joining the team. They provided donuts, muffins and bagels for breakfast and brought in boxed lunches! I ate before I went to work but I had a small muffin for a snack and enjoyed the turkey sandwich. I was planning to come home and do some cleaning, but after my extra walk in my dress shoes I decided to skip it. I cando it tomorrow, or just do a quick once over later in the week and call it done. I'll see how I feel tomorrow.

Pat, that restaurant (on Saturday) sounds like a "donot repeat" place. I'm glad they made an effort to make something healthy for you, but what a disappointment it turned out to be. But, hoorah! You had a much better experience yesterday. Good.
Cool! I hope Vickie enjoys her FitBit as much as I enjoy mine. : )
Nice that you had a large turn-out in church yesterday. Bet the singing was real nice, with that many people.

Sharon, I know you would have been encouraging if you'd known I was depressed. You're a good Spark friend. I say "was depressed" because I think the increased medicine is BEGINNING to help a little. I will be seeing my psych dr on Friday.
"My" masseuse was around 30, I'd say. I'm glad you, too, had a good experience.
For some reason, we get plenty of strong winds during the winter. But I think I'll take our strong winds if the sky is sunny, thank you, instead of overcast skies. I'm not a big fan of them.
Isn't it great when you can find the Mom and Pop restaurants that turn out to be really good? We enjoy one nearby, especially for breakfast.
Happy (belated) Birthday, Jennifer! I'm glad y'all had good weather this weekend so you were able to get out and enjoy your new neighborhood. How great it is that you can safely kayak and canoe. I'm glad you found that quieter bay. With that and all the trails, along with the neat store you mentioned before, it sounds like you're in the perfect place.
If my DH is interested in watching the Super Bowl, I guess I might too, but pro-football interests me very little. I'd rather watch college basketball.

Speaking of basketball, DH's alma mater is doing very poorly this year, which is a big surprise because they have the same coach, and almost all the same players as previously. Four starters this year were starters last season, too. In fact, the team only lost 3 players to graduating last spring. What's 'funny' is that the team was supposedly going to take the conference this year.....NOT!
Ok, enough basketball talk.

I slept in this morning, got on the computer, and finally ate (brunch) around 10:00. emoticon Sure felt good to spoil myself.

I've been on the treadmill today, plan to mop our hard floors and do some strength training, and READ this afternoon. So I'm not completely decadent.

NancyJ, I'm sorry I wasn't here for you to give you hugs when you were feeling so depressed. I hope your med changes start working quickly. In the meantime, a massage sounds like great medicine:) I'm glad you didn't have to go to Baltimore! And that the guy turned out to be good at his job. I went to a massage school once and got a 20 something young man which slightly terrified me at first but he was also very sensitive and considerate. Anyway, glad to hear it all worked out. Sunny and windy? I can't recall having a day like that here. When it's windy here, the low clouds sweep over us but never enough to show the sun.
Nancy, it sounds to me like you got a lot crossed off your to-do list. I hope you really enjoy your new job.
Pat, I hope that winter weather of yours eases up. Doesn't it know you didn't move down there for that? How fun for you both that Vickie will have a FitBit! I'm glad you weren't forced to stray from your diet with the restaurant's food but what a bummer about their service. We try to support local Mom & Pop places but it's so disappointing when they can't handle a crowd.
Yesterday was my sister's birthday. After we all did a work out video each morning, which was a hoot, we had a wonderful weekend exploring more of the peninsula. We found a beautiful park close by our house that has camping sites which we don't need because we live so close but it also has hiking trails and a place to launch our kayak and canoes. We've been a little nervous about the thought of boating in the waters near our house because the ferry path is so close and the currents look unpredictable, but this park is tucked into a much calmer bay. It's been a thrill to find that we still have access to all the things we love to do. Jim even found mountain biking trails. I've decided that I don't need the adrenaline rush from mountain biking, so I'll stick to road biking, thank you very much. Anyway, we had a great time treating Jennifer all weekend. We also got a few things done in the house, which feels like a big relief even though we have lots more to do. Oh, and I guess our football team is going to the Superbowl so everyone else is blowing things up about that but in case you can't tell, none of the 3 of us happen to care about that. We decided we'll go out in the kayaks during the Superbowl if it's not raining:)

NJ so happy you were able to get your massage. I hate it when you are specific and then whoever is on the other end of the phone doesn't make the right appointment. I have had that happen at dr's offices where they go to multiple locations. I have never had a man do anything other than a chair massage-otherwise it was always a lady who did mine. Glad he made you feel comfortable.

Nancy it is sometimes good to deviate from plans. I know our plans sometime change at the drop of a hat. Are you ready to start the new job?? Hopefully it will be an easy transition to this job for you.

Today I walked early and had a little time to do some ironing before getting ready to go to church. I didn't get it all done so will hopefully get to that tomorrow. We had a large crowd at church today. Yes, NJ we were able to get them to make us a special meal that wasn't on the menu. They fixed us a chicken breast and steamed mixed veggies. It was ok, but chicken was dry and veggies were a bit overcooked. The whole meal was a bit of a fiasco. There were 40 of us and it is a small restaurant but we arrived at 4:30 and it was 6:45 when we finally left. It sure took a long time to get our food and one poor friend got his after everyone else had eaten so he boxed it and took it home!
Today we went to a restaurant after church where Bill & I had not eaten but the others had. I was well pleased with their food and service. Had a marinated chicken breast there and mixed vegetables again and it was so tasty.
We played cards afterwards and split the games. Everyone went home happy-no one was a loser. Vickie's daughter gave her her FitBit so now we can compare distance and steps when we walk!

Pat, congratulations on hanging in there with the diet. Good luck with stage 2. Were you able to get a healthy selection at the restaurant tonight? I hope so.
How cool it is that you and Vickie are able to find some neat things at yard sales, for yourselves and for the park.

Nancy, I hope the SAD won't get worse, but I'm glad you're aware of the need to see someone if it does get worse.
It's good to be flexible sometimes. So you didn't do a workout - you DID the grocery shopping and sorting through clothes. That's a big job.
Breakfast out with family sounds very nice indeed. I want to see American Sniper. Can you imagine: all that time in war zones, and coming back home to be killed. I've read a book about him.
I'm glad you had the day to relax. Wishing you all good things with your new job.

I DID enjoy my massage; but let me tell you about my experience. A few weeks ago I called for an appointment. Mind you, this is the Baltimore School of Massage, but there's a campus/clinic near me in PA. I told the woman on the phone that I wanted an appt here in PA. OK, all's well so far. When I went this afternoon, they couldn't find my appt listed, but the more we talked, they realized the appt was made for Baltimore. It was suggested I wait for a few minutes to see if everyone with appts would come in. Good news: there was an opening.

Today was my first massage by a man. (gulp) He was professional, courteous, sensitive to my comfort, and never once did he act inappropriately. So afterwards, when I filled in the critique, I made sure I wrote all that. It was a great massage. emoticon

I also picked up a business card so I have that campus' phone number. No future mistakes. emoticon

Never, EVER give up. Just pick yourself up and keep going.

Pat - I'm sorry it is so dreary there. That's not unusual for Illinois this time of year. It's supposed to be warmer here today but it's not very sunny.

NJ - Thanks for your concern. If I feel the SAD is getting worse I will see someone. I hope you enjoyed your massage.

My plans for Thursday changed. I decided to get the groceries and then worry about my workout and cleaning the basement. I decided to do my shopping at Meijer (similar to Wal-Mart in case you aren't familiar). I needed to get some storage totes. It took so long to shop that I skipped working out and cleaning the basement. I put all of the clothes my husband doesn't wear in the storage totes and washed all of my dress pants. I could wear jeans forme old job so I decided to wash my dress ps to since they've been hanging in the closet for two years.

Yesterday we went to breakfast with BIL and to a movie in the afternoon. We saw American Sniper, it was a good movie but the end made me cry. We decided not to go to the rental house so I've spent the day relaxing.

OH NJ I envy you your massage. I used to get one occasionally where I went to fitness classes. Now that has closed and I have no idea where to go. Some places don't look so nice. Many years ago when I worked, our company brought in a massage therapist who did chair massages for 15 min and they paid part of the cost and we paid $10. I always took part when it was offered.
Today Vickie & I went to a couple of yard sales and picked up some treasures for the park. I also got myself a nice top and some "critters" to use when making bird baths. When we got back, we went for our walk which we didn't do before we left. We all have a birthday party to attend this evening and I am not happy, the restaurant we are going to doesn't offer much in the way of healthy choices so hoping I can get them to make me a grilled chicken breast and some steamed veggies. Today is the last day of the 17DD - stage 1. We will start stage 2 tomorrow.
Hope all of you are having a great weekend.

"Nurse" Nancy (me) says you might have SAD, Nancy, and if it's a problem, I hope you will see a doctor. Seriously. : ) I don't so much mind an occasional overcast day, but when we string a bunch of them together - that's another story. I have to make sure I do things I enjoy.
Thank you for your support and encouragement, AND for the hugs.

Pat, I cherish your support, too. We did have sunshine today, but the wind was blowing really hard, so I hurried when I was outside. : ) At least I could let the sunlight stream in my windows.
Oh! You had one of 'those' days - overcast, damp and cold. {shudder} Aren't they just the pits! Interesting how your weather has evolved in the years since you moved down there.
Oh yeah, you didn't get much done yesterday: walking, luncheon, laundry and paperwork. tsk-tsk, you sluggard! emoticon I hope it was restful.

DH and I went grocery shopping today. Always an exciting time. At least I get in a bunch of steps on shopping day.

I got a gift certificate for a massage. I was waiting to get one after we put out the outdoor Christmas decorations, but we put that off and put it off until I finally decided to wait until after the holidays. I go to the local massage school and in early Jan. they were on a break. So, I'm set to get relaxed tomorrow afternoon. I am so looking forward to it.

Have a great evening.

Never, EVER give up. Just pick yourself up and keep going.

Of course dear NJ we are definitely here-just remember we are your cyber support system. Sounds like you are more upbeat so hoping the medicine is kicking in and that you will get some sunshine-I always thinks that lifts anyone's mood, depression or not!
Nancy it sounds like you are coming into the home stretch and will have tomorrow to be a Nancy day. Enjoy it my friend. Work is coming soon. I am sure the first month or so will be a big learning experience and it will be nice to know you have everything caught up and you are well rested!
Today has been overcast, damp and cold! The thermometer says we are 60 degrees but it certainly doesn't feel like it. I am hoping we get to see some sunshine - we have had more gray days in the past 6 weeks than I ever remember since we moved down here and more rain than usual-this is our dry season!
I walked about 9 and at 11:30 we had a luncheon for the boat club. It was supposed to have been a boat trip but too cold for that today. Rain started about 1:30. I haven't accomplished much today-1 load of laundry and some paperwork!

Pat - You did have a busy day! I will enjoy the rest of my time off. My housework is done except the basement and that so t take long. I'll do,they in the morning after I work out. Then I'll get groceries and my work will be done until Saturday when we go to the rental house.

NJ - Of course we're going to support you! I've never been diagnosed with depression, but I do have days when I wonder sbout it. I seem to be in better moods during sunny days so I wonder if I might have SAD. Sending you hugs.

Nancy, I'm glad you have been getting some downtime; and yes, if you were working, your weekends would be shot with working on the house.

Pat, I learned my lesson almost four years ago when I started crashing after my Mom died. I just can't mess around with depression. Fortunately, I have a wonderful psych. dr - she only works with people over 60 yr of age. With Bipolar Disorder, I might have to not only adjust dosage, but even change meds from time to time. I've been lucky thus far; after the initial finding out what meds and dosages I need, this is the first adjustment.
Wow! You sure did have a go-go-go day. I'll bet you're glad it's evening. : ) At least those meetings are behind you now.

Ladies, I knew I could safely mention my problem to you because I've learned that you're not judgmental and are supportive. Thank you all for your support.

Never, EVER give up. Just pick yourself up and keep going.

NJ so happy you did go ahead and call the dr. Depression is nothing to try ignoring. Bill suffers from it so I well know that when things get out of whack it can really cause issues. Praying that adjusting the meds will help bring you back into a good spot. Sometimes the medicine must even be changed (happened to DH) and the last time his dosage had to be increased. I also notice his moods seem to be more upbeat when the weather is nicer and the sun is out.
Nancy that would be wonderful if you could sell the property and that would simplify your life. Hope one of these realtors will turn out to be the answer. Sure hope you enjoy these remaining days off.
Lori you truly are an inspiration to all of us. You are right, taking it off isn't easy but sometimes proves to be easier than keeping it off. I am a case in point-lost 90 lbs and the put most of it back on over the next 10 years. Now I seem to keep losing the same 40 lbs over and over and this time I am determined to get off 60 lbs and keep it off.
I spent to day on the go-had our usual Wednesday breakfast and didn't get back home till 9:30 as service was really slow today. We had our monthly RO meeting at 10 and didn't get home till 12:15 from that. Had time to eat lunch and read the newspaper and gather up my paperwork and then it was off to another meeting (finance) at 2 and got back home at 5!
Needless to say, I didn't get in a lot of walking but since I didn't take Sunday off I am just going to count this as my down day.
Cooler here today-high of 66 this afternoon.and not a lot of sunshine.

NJ - The weather here could be worse. We have t had a lot of snow, just two snowfalls really. Like you, I am tired of it. I am enjoying my time off. Last week my husband was home all week except for one day. We spent most of the week relaxing. I cleaned the day he was gone. I haven't had much down time this week, but have still enjoyed being off. If I was working, I would have had to spend. Pre time cleaning the rental house on Saturday. I've been wondering where you were. I'm sorry to hear your struggling but glad you called your psychiatrist. I'm sending positive energy your way in hopes that will help ease it. emoticon

Nancy, Sorry you've been having such rotten weather. Other than some freezing rain the other night, ours hasn't been too dreadful -- except of course, for the TEMPERATURES!!! I hate being cold. {grouse, grumble, complain}
I hope everything connected to the house is falling into place for you. It can be such a hassle when you're waiting for someone to show up, and can be lots of tiring work getting things done. That sure sounds like a good lead for selling your properties. I hope it pans out for you.
Are you enjoying your days off? Or are you just plain too busy to relax? I know the house is taking a lot of work. Hopefully, you'll have time before the 19th to just chill and enjoy yourself.

Yes, Pat, we got our grandson to school then ran our errands. While I am glad we could help out, I think the problem is that he doesn't start some long-term assignments in a timely fashion. It came up just before school started in August, and I think that if it comes up again this school year, that I'll say something to him. Bless his heart.
We get some of the bad weather coming east out of the Midwest. But the mountains in western PA do keep some of the worst of it sometimes; although they don't do anything about the temperatures! We had overnight lows of 8 degrees (with really strong winds) a couple of nights last week.
I'm glad you were able to get your gardening done before the rain came on the 12th. But I'm also glad it rained - kept you out of the backbreaking work of gardening awhile. LOL
I'm glad you and Bill have friends to get together with and play games and shop, etc. Makes it all so much more fun. Great idea for them to hold the "Meet the Candidates" meeting. I hope only good people are elected.

Lori, your weight loss is inspiring to me. That's fantastic, and I know emoticon to keep off the weight. You have the plan, the power (from God), and the proper motivation. Be sure to let us know how your fast goes. I'll be praying for you.
It IS too bad your aunt seems to be unwilling to get past a food addition. It's good to know that she knows the Lord, but she needs to make healthy changes. I know that's hard - I still have struggles with that.

Sharon, I'm so glad you have a much better grocery store. That should make it easier for you guys come up with healthy meals.
I understand chocolate cravings - I live with them a lot, and have to work really hard to not pick up some candy when I'm in a store. emoticon emoticon

I've been missing from this thread for a few days because I'm struggling. Depression is attacking me, and I've been fighting back, until I finally cried "uncle" and called my psychiatrist yesterday. She upped my anti-depressant, and I'll see her next week - months before my regularly scheduled visit. It could take as much as 2 weeks before the increased anti-depressant helps. Meanwhile, I'm pressing on with the knowledge that if I don't do as many of my regular activities as I can force myself to do, I'll be sunk. It's good, no, GREAT to know I have such wonderful friends as you all. I know I'm not alone. Thank you.

Never, EVER give up. Just pick yourself up and keep going.

Lori, I'm so sorry to hear about your aunt. It's very hard to watch someone you care about do that to themselves, even though we may understand how hard it is to change. Good for you for taking care of yourself and your faith. 130 pounds! Wow, you are inspiring!
Sometimes it feels wrong to get motivation from my parents poor self care and health problems, but it really does motivate me too. It would be nice if only we could motivate our loved ones!
Pat, you always have such a good balance of busy work and fun with friends. That's not easy to achieve! I'm glad your community stays active with eachother.
Nancy, good luck selling the house. Are you back to work this week or do you get another week off?
I'm craving a lot of chocolate today but I don't need it and I've been eating really well so I hope I stay focused today. I'm going to keep telling myself they're water cravings, whether it's true or not!

Lori - I'm glad your aunt is doing so well. I hope she makes the changes necessary to get healthy. Like Pat said, she has to make the decision for herself. Congrats on your loss! 130 pounds is terrific!

Sharon - I hope your mom Is right! I'm ready for winter t be over too. And we haven't even had s bad one, I'm just tired of he cold and snow. I'm glad you were able to find a good grocery store.

Pat - I got a lot of the clesning done. I wiped down all the baseboards and door and window trim and cleaned the kitchen and bathroom. I still have to mop those floors and vacuum two bedrooms. My husband is going to decide how much we need to paint. We want to sell all the property but if we can't sell it, we'll rent it out. I checked with the neighbor and her landlord might be interested in buying it. She gave me a wrong number so I had to do an internet search for him. I called the number in for d online and found another realtor who also might be interested. Hopefully one of them will buy it and the duplex.

Peony how sad it is when people are given a 2nd chance and they do not take advantage of the gift that God has given to them. Praying that your aunt will realize what she is doing to herself. Only she can make that decision. How awesome that you have lost the weight and are determined to keep it off. May God help you to maintain that loss and continue to live a healthy life.

Nancy hope you got the house cleaned today. Did you say you are going to sell it or are you planning on renting it again. You have a lot of property to care for yet don't you. Glad yo are to get a bit of a warm up. I am sure it will feel good after those cold temps.

I had an extremely busy day. Walked early, then off to do some shopping before company arrived this afternoon. I did have time to get my floors steam mopped before they arrived. We played cards with our friends and split the games with the guys. All went home happy. This evening we attended a Meet the Candidates at our clubhouse. We elect 5 new board members in just over a week and this was our chance to question those that are running.

I hope all of you with wintery weather stay safe and warm. My mother in Indiana says she's only planning on having 67 more days until Spring weather starts. She's been marking off her calendar and counting down every day. I guess she's ready. I'm just not sure how she came up with the 67 days!
I'm just appreciating more light each morning and evening.
My sister and I got some things done in our new house on Sunday and we also found a really great grocery store. That's been a big deal for us because we lived for so long with an expensive terrible grocery store. It sure makes it easier to eat better. I've had 2 weeks of lots of veggies and lower calories. What a relief!
I hope you're all having a healthy, peaceful week.

My aunt had a stroke in October. She was in intensive care 1 month and in the hospital a total of 3 months. The doctors were surprised that she pulled through. From the hospital she was sent to a rehabilitation center that is essentially a nursing home. today I went to see her and it really is a miracle that she appears to have totally recovered. She always gives God the glory which is wonderful BUT in her room she had boxes someone had brought her Bojangles, bags & bags of candy, huge bags of chips and junk food. emoticon

This really let me see how powerful food addiction is. She`s lucky to be alive & yet she still has not changed her horrible eating habits. She is the only person on my father`s side of the family that is morbidly obese. She is only in her early 60`s. I pray that she will make a change before it`s too late. If she`s eating so poorly while in the rehabilitation center, i can`t imagine what she`ll be eating when she gets home.

This was really a wake up call for me. The past month has been the most difficult for me since I began my weight loss journey in July 2013. i remember asking God to help me because i knew the weight was starting to cause health problems.. God answered my prayer and now I find myself in the same situation. If I don`t watch it I`ll start gaining weight again. I`m going on a fast this week to wean myself off of the sugar and next week I`ll start the healthy diet that helped me to lose almost 130 lbs. so far. I`m finally at my goal weight.
I realize that this is a lifetime journey. I refuse to go back to the way I used to be. With God`s help I can be healthy and live the abundant life God meant for me.

Pat - It will be good to have some alone time. He left at 2:00 today and I shoveled until almost 3:00 so didn't have much time today. Tomorrow I have to clean the rental house and wait for the carpet shampooers. He house is about an hour away so two hours of driving time plus the cleaning and waiting for them will take most of the day. Our west her osn't too bad, it's sposed to warm up to the 30's later in the week. I'm sure that sounds horrible to you, but it's been below zero and in the teens lately.

NJ Hope you got GS to school and back and then got your errands run. How is you weather? Are you getting the hasty stuff that went thru the Midwest?

Nancy I bet it might be nice to have a day to yourself-it won't be long until you are back at work. Do you start next Monday? How is your weather?

We woke up to fog but I still walked. It cleared off about 9 and DH & Abbie walked a round with me. After we ate breakfast I worked on deadheading roses (gardening never ceases down here!). I worked in the gardens, park or home) until noon. We had mild temps but damp air and the rain arrived by noon and it has been raining off and on ever since. Glad I got out and got my work outside done before that happened.

Pat - I know 56 is cold for you, but I'm still jealous! It's 16 here today and I just spent 45 minutes outside shoveling and blowing snow. I started with the shovel because it's better exercise, but gave up and got out the blower. There was 5-6 inches in some places. I'm glad you were able to get at least a short walk in.

Sharon - You're right about getti s house ready to sell or rent is a full time job. We spent every weekend for two months this summer getting our duplex ready to rent. People o both sides moved out s month apart. This one shouldn't be too bad. We've already decided not to paint everything. I'll check out your blog, your pictures are always pretty.

NJ - We did get a bit of freezing rain, at least the truck was iced over a bit today. We didn't gt a lot of snow, but it blew around so there was 5-6 inches in some places. So far, that was my exercise for the day. I hope your storm isn't as bad as predicted. 12 hours of freezing rain and snow doesn't sound good.

Lori - I hope the weather isn't too bad.

My hubby left today and will be back sometime Thursday. I jokingly said something g about not being invited and he said I could go but I'd just be stuck sitting at a hotel or in the car. If it wasn't for cleaning the rental house, I would have gone. We need to get the carpets cleaned and I don't know if they work weekends so I just stayed home. It won't be too bad, it might actually be nice to have the house to myself during the day. I'll only be home all day alone k. Wednesday. I'm cleaning the rental house tomorrow and have arranged for the carpet cleaners to come too.
