No incident last night so hopefully the rest of LA's stay will be uneventful. She is a sweetie and so little compared to BA. She only weighs about 7 lbs. BA is a little over 15,
We heard lots of thunder this evening but rain missed us. The girls did pretty good tonight. so maybe we are having so many storms they are getting tougher.
I made chicken fried rice with onions, broccoli, water chestnuts and cashews and took that over to Vickie & Sonny as they are still under the weather. Told them it would be turkey pot pie tomorrow evening. I used up some of my frozen chicken so slowly but surely I am cleaning a few things out of the freezer and cabinet.
I did some more weeding today and then got my ironing caught up. I also got the paperwork filled out for DH-he will start his PT on Monday and I had a book to fill out or so it seemed!

Pat, I'm sorry the Cards game the other eve wasn't more exciting; but it was real good they won. : )
Poor Chelsea, but I guess she sort of got you ready for helping Abbie during storms. Interesting that she'd get in bed with you during the storm, but go back to her own bed when it was over.
My word! (The storm so hard it knocked a clock off the wall) - we're coming close to that now. Really strong thunder and raining really hard.
You are so thoughtful, and a very good friend to cook so much and share it with friends and neighbors. Homemade turkey noodle soup sounds really good. I hope Sonny and Vickie are both feeling better; although I know that bronchitis generally takes quite a while to go away. Hope Vickie and you and Bill don't get it, too.
Oh Yuck! I'm sorry Abbie had an accident in your bed - sorry, too, that you had to get up and take care of when you should have been asleep. Hopefully the other night will not be repeated. At least you did have the pad on the bed.
You sure kept busy yesterday. I'm sure your neighbor appreciates all you do for him. And I'm glad you were able to learn from your friend, to not put weed killer in the heat. I'll have to keep that in mind, as I want to put something around the edges of our garden of bushes - we don't actually have flowers planted. Guess I'll wait awhile until things cool down some.
Woo-Hoo! Free lunch (or any meal) is a winner. I enjoy Olive Garden, DH less so, so we don't go there much.
Thanks for the heads-up about Lisa Jackson's books. I'll have to look into them for my Kindle, or at least at the library. I rarely pay anything for books on my Kindle - well, maybe $0.99 sometimes. :D

Isn't it a real shame when a relative is so unpleasant. Nancy, I'm glad your son comes, even
when his wife won't. Sounds like everyone is better off that way.
Nancy, I'm sorry you're having quite a time with the 17 Day Diet. At least you recognize it, and know what you can do differently. Good for you emoticon
How nice that your DH's family was in town and y'all were able to get together, enough tho' it meant take multiple trips into town. : )
I'm sorry you had so much trouble with the assessment, and that it doesn't have a negative effect on your employment. I'm with you: hopefully they will see the results and go back and teach what you need to know.
I hope you slept well the other night, to help you 'get over' the weekend. Sometimes when we go on vacation (or to one of Josh's tournaments) I need another vacation to recover. emoticon

Jenny, that's great news about your Mom. I hope it all goes well for her. I am sorry that your shoulders are swollen and sore. Surely PT isn't supposed to leave you that way.
What a pain when someone tells you they'll do something, and then they don't. I hope they show up for your next scheduled appt.

Well, Josh played a game on Sunday, but his team lost, so they were through - for the season, as it turns out. They played seven games this past weekend, and I have to think they got real tired, especially as there were two per day - back-to-back. Oh well, he'll be in Fall ball, although I don't know exactly when that starts.

We had a violent thunderstorm awhile ago, but now the sun is out. Go figure!
Our small group started a new study. It's the book "Love Does" by Bob Goff, and includes a video and question we answer in group. We've only had the one session so I'm not sure what I'm going to think of it.

Never, EVER give up. Just pick yourself up and keep going.

Nancy I certainly am not setting any records for what I am getting done either. I woke up about 4 am feeling wet! Little Abbie has piddled in the bed SO we had to strip the bed and remake it and I took the girls out and she piddled again! We aren't used to a dog needing to go out in the middle of the night and she didn't wake us up either. It wasn't much but enough to wake me up. Luckily I keep a pad on the bed so no harm to our mattress. We take her out every 2-3 hours during the day and this is the 1st time for an accident at night so hoping it isn't an issue tonight. We ended up doing 2 loads of laundry today and I have pulled weeds in our yard and between our house and the neighbors. He isn't well and can't do anything so I am trying to at least get what is close to our yard pulled out. I hate to put any weed killer on while it is so hot. A friend put some weed and feed on his yard and it killed the weeds but now he has a lot of bare spots. By pulling the weeds, I am not killing any of the grass. I also started trimming some of our plants and shrubs. All the rain and the heat is really making things grow. I had 2 big buckets filled and was sweating so bad that my glasses were falling off when I bent over so decided it was time to quit for the day. I will keep at it until I get it whipped into shape. I just have to work around the showers and the heat.
We went to Olive Garden for lunch today to give Bill a break from turkey. I had a $10 voucher that had to be redeemed before the end of July and another gift card so lunch was "free".
I finished my e-book today so that is a relief. If you have never read Lisa Jackson's novels and like a good mystery, she is an excellent author. Now I have to see what else I can check out.

Pat - I'm sorry the Abbie's are both smscared. That must have been some loud thunder! We had rain today too with some rumblings, but nothing like that. The soup sounds delicious. It was really kind of you to share with so Manu people.

I was just lazy today. I got up early enough to,work out,but just didn't feel like it. I didn't do,s y cleaning tonight either. I think our weekend of running and having no down time had taken its toll. I'm heading to bed early tonight.

Another rainy day down here-had to wait out a shower to walk this morning and it has rained off an on all day. We are getting quite a thunder storm still. Shook our house hard enough it knocked the clock off the wall! I have two anxious dogs helping hold me down so typing is difficult.

I made a big pot of turkey noodle soup today after I got my haircut. Vickie & Sonny (our friends) are both sick so I thought it might help them. Sonny went to urgent care yesterday and has bronchitis and now Vickie isn't feeling good. Hoping we don't get it since we are together a lot. Also took a bowl to our neighbor next door as he isn't doing well and I always take a bowl of whatever I make to the guy who lets us park in his driveway. We had it for our supper and have enough for another meal and I froze enough for another meal later on. DH is not fond of leftovers. I still have enough turkey left to make a turkey pot pie so will do that on Thur to give DH a break from the turkey!!

Hi everyone Mom got her stitches out now and starts therapy soon probably next week. I started mine last week. My MRI had to be rescheduled since my ride never showed up last Fri. I have my MRI on next Monday morning. I see Rita on the 18th of August at 8:05 am. The therapy I am unsure if it is helping me or not. Since my shoulder are always swollen and inflamed.

Pat - Your DIL sounds like mine. She doesn't like my husband's family so she won't come to family gatherings except Thanksgiving. And then she sits by herself in a corner and acts like a snob. Lately she hasn't even come to our small gatherings. WeVe seen her 4 times this year and they live 45 minutes away. At least our son had been coming around more often, he just leaves her home. She's usually crabby and argumentative when she's here so that's fine with us! I'm not doing well with the 17 day diet. I'm going to try counting calories again and eating more fruits and veggies. I think that will be very for me, I can't stick to the diet when my husband is home, but I can still eat healthier.

NJ - Congrsts to Josh and the team! You have every that to do some bragging! As I told Pat, the diet isn't going great. I just need to make healthier choices and count calories. I know that will work, I just need to do it.

We had a busy weekend. We had to drop off my husband's new bike f some work and ran some errands. His mom called t let us know his sister and family were in town and wanted to get together. We decided to host it at our house. When we went back to town to lick up the bike I stopped at the store to pick a few item I didn't have in hand. After we got home I realized we didn't get mouse traps so we had to run to town again! At least we took the trike the third trip so it was fun. Sunday was spent with his family and back to the normal routine today, we had another assessment yesterday. We had an hour scheduled to take a 45 minute test. 20 minutes into the hour she was finally able to get the right test emailed to us. It's online and there are two links - one that we use to answer and one thst has the questions and scenarios for us to look at. One of the questions was tricky so she interrupted us to talk about that. I got nervous at the end because we were running out of time and started guessing the answers. Ended up scoring a 64. It doesn't affect my job, they are using the test scores to see how much f our work they need to check. They check 10 cases every month but depending on our score they may check more. I was so frustrated and tired I came home and napped for two hours last night! Some of,the things in the test hadn't been covered in class so I hope they go back and review that stuff for us.

So happy Josh's team is doing well. Makes it all the more enjoyable for you. A home run with 2 on base- emoticon We watched the Cards play last night since it was televised down here and they beat the Braves. A rather boring game-they scored the games only run in the bottom of the 8th!

We never let our big (boxer and pit bull) sleep with us-they each had their own beds on the floor in opposite areas of the bedroom and they were fine with that but they wanted to be where we were. Only time Chelsea (boxer) wanted in bed was in her later years during a storm. She was deaf but must have been able to feel the storm and would get in bed between us and she put her head under the pillow. When it was over she would go back to her bed!

I am glad they do get along and pray when they keep our Abbie in mid Aug that it goes ok. It is just for a couple of nights so should be ok.

Hi Pat. I'm glad you know you've done what you can, and thus don't berate yourselves. It does hurt a lot when you 'show up' but are made to feel like you're an imposition. I hope for you that the GK do remember all you have done with and for them. And kids aren't stupid - they know what's what more often than we sometimes realize.
While I'm glad you were able to attend the 'do' for a friend. Too bad it was held at such a horrible place.
Wow, two dogs to comfort during storms. Bless you. I'm glad they get along more than not, but do find BA's attitude to be similar to that of an older child 'welcoming' a new baby into the house. : ) I'm with you with clean dogs - and especially when they are in close proximity to you. As big as Darby is, I'm glad we never let her on the bed with us. It's the one piece of furniture in the house that is dog-free. She doesn't seem to mind, which is good. Having said that, when we had cats (and before I became allergic) they always climbed on the bed with us. Callie, in particular, LOVED to lie right next to my leg under the covers. Talk about an auxiliary heat source! emoticon
Speaking of the dogs being jealous of each other: We had two dogs at one time, and the one couldn't stand it if we petted the other, even when the first one was also being petted! Just about like little children.

Josh update: They played twice today, and won both games. emoticon The teams seeded 1 thru 6 get a 'bye' for the 8:00 games tomorrow. Josh's team is #3 out of 19 teams; and their game is at 10:30. If they win that one, they go to the next round.

If they lose a game, they go home. So tomorrow, there's the 8:00 and 10:30 games, which are the quarter finals, next are the semi-finals, then the championship game, which isn't scheduled to start until 3:30....getting over about 2 hours later. If they go all the way, we'll get supper on the way home, driving the 4+ hours to get there.

I love watching Josh play (he had a REALLY good day today), and I'd love to see them win the championship; but I'm getting tired, not so much of baseball, but of being out of my comfort zone. No motel room is anywhere near like what your own home is like, and we miss Darby. I grabbed a wee nap before supper tonight, but I'm not sure it helped much. Haha At least we don't have to get up at the crack of dawn like we did today to make today's 8:00 game. The facility is a good 30 minutes away.

Oh, did I mention? Josh got a home run yesterday, and there were already two boys on base, so it gave them 3 runs. emoticon Ok, I promise, no more baseball this evening. Y'all are so good to put up with my excitement and bragging. emoticon

NJ thanks so much for the pep talk and "pat on the back". Sometimes I feel like I didn't push hard enough and other times I know we were there and sorta got shoved to the side so the easy way to not feel hurt is to just not go there. We love them all and guess that is the best we can do. We took all the of the GK's camping with us when we were working so hope those memories will hold with them.
So happy that Josh's team is doing well. That really makes it even more enjoyable for you when you go. Is he hoping to get a scholarship for college on his playing ability? Our financial advisor went to college on a baseball scholarship and has started playing again this summer and is really enjoying himself. He has a little boy about 2 and is already teaching him the "basics".
We went to a surprise 70th birthday party today for a friend. We were told to be there between 12:30 and 12:45 and arrived about 12:40 and everyone was already there!!! They had changed the time and forgot to tell the 4 of us!!!!! It was held at one of our least favorite Mexican restaurants and we remember why. We had to ask for our drinks 3 X. They didn't bring us any chips or dip-finally asked another server. Our orders were all mixed up, bills were messed up also. Not a good experience and we won't be going back unless it is for something like this. The husband chose this restaurant! Food was ok but barely warm. Oh well, enough bitching. We went to celebrate the day and that we did!!!
Rain finally arrived about 5-it had been predicted for 12-2 to arrive but really late and it has poured and lots of thunder. We are dog sitting again for little Abby and finally got the girls calmed down.
I gave little Abby a bath and a trim after we got back from the party. Her momma didn't get it done and asked me to bathe her. I don't mind, she is good and I like a clean dog when it is going to be sleeping in my bed. Our Abbie gets a bath at least once a week. BA is just a little jealous of LA being here. They get along but very jealous of each other. Can't pet one without petting the other, etc.

Hi Y'all, I gotta brag. Let me put it this way:

First game Thurs: Josh's team won 18 to zero
Second game Thurs: lost by 1 run (5 to 4)
First game Fri: won 10 to 4
Second game Fri: won 13 - 2
Two games tomorrow, then at least one on Sunday. emoticon

As good as Josh's team has been, one team in the tournament has given up only a single run to another team in the four games they played. WOW! Color me impressed. Of course, I still think Josh's team is the best. emoticon

Ok, on to being a better friend....

Nancy, I'm so glad you are more positive about your knowledge and abilities at work. I know it can be awfully discouraging when you just don't see the forest for the trees, and then how wonderful it feels when the light dawns. I'm tickled pink for you. I'm also glad your company has learned to train in two's before putting on your own.
How's the diet coming? I don't know about you, but if I do fairly well most of the time, I forgive myself when I'm not perfect. I hope you aren't too hard on yourself, because you ARE human. emoticon

Pat, I'm positive that you were and are the best parents and grandparents you can be. Look how far away everyone in your family lives from you. You have the right to live your lives as much for yourselves (without guilt) as for your kids/grands/great-grands! (Congratulations) You said that you and Bill traveled after retirement - I hope you aren't living with any regrets because you chose to do that. I'm so sorry it's hard to be able to see your kids/grands. And I do hope your DIL will come around in her attitude - that must make it unpleasant for your son as well as you, and will definitely have a negative impact for their kids. All you can do it love them, and hope that things will change for the better. Ok, 'preaching' over. Just know that I care about you, and hope that things go well on your trip this Fall.
Like I told Nancy, don't jump on yourself when you don't diet perfectly. None of us is perfect, and when we try to restrict ourselves a lot (some diets) and then 'slip' we tend to be down on ourselves. I figure, if we do our best, and recognize that we WILL slip up now and then (even 'at least once a day') and we forgive ourselves -- that means we are successful in that endeavor. See, you admit you are eating better most of the time. A success.
Your trip to Tampa sounds really nice, overall. I admit to feeling bad for Bill - having to remove his hearing aides because of unruly kids. Where were the adults who were supposed to supervise? For that matter, why hadn't their parents taught them to "use their inside voices"? I AM glad you got to see all the exhibits and had lunch before returning home. Wow! 176 mi roundtrip. That's quite a day. I hope your excursion to Daytona goes smoothly.

Since we have been sitting most of the day, watching ballgames, I didn't think I'd tote up many steps, but boy, was I wrong! Yesterday, I walked over 8,000 steps and today, my FitBit said I went over 10K!! I usually walk about 5K on an average day. Of course, the facility where the boys are playing is nothing if not huge. There are 16 ball fields, and other things, like a swimming pool and playground for younger kids. Soooo, the boys play about a thousand miles from the parking lot, and we usually make a round trip once between games (they play 2 per day). And have to hike to the rest rooms. I'm very pleased with myself, but apologize for the boasting. emoticon

We cooked outdoors by the pool this (late) eve with DD and family. We didn't get into our motel room until after 9:00 p.m. - no wonder I'm tired. LOL

Tomorrow's games start at 8:00 a.m. and the facility is located about 30 min. from here, so I really need to get to bed.
emoticon

Never, EVER give up. Just pick yourself up and keep going.

NJ you certainly do stay busy going to games. You are good grandparents to always be there to root him on. I guess we weren't the greatest for our GK's. We made it to a soccer game here and there but we were both working at the time and then when we retired we hit the road and now live tooo far away and the GK's are pretty much grown and we are into the great GK's! We have 3 of them of them we have never even seen and 1 GD-the youngest who will be 2 soon. We hope to see my 7 that are in MT on our trip west. We never know how our DIL will be-I have told my son and her we plan to come by so hopefully we get to visit for a day or 2 - haven't seen them in 9 years!!! Sad situation. We used to fly down to FL to see them and sometimes we would not even get to. Other times we would stay with them-just never know what side of the bed she will get up on.

Nancy it sounds like by the time they turn you loose that you will have had lots of hands on training and will be ready to handle it. emoticon keep working on that diet and you will see results. I am not doing well-usually shoot myself in the foot at least once a day. However eating better most of the time.

Today we got ready to go to Tampa to the aquarium and Bill noticed we had a screw in our tire so Sonny drove instead. We arrived right at opening time and was glad we had as late morning they had busloads of kids arriving and it got very crowded and so loud Bill had to remove his hearing aides! We had a nice time and saw all the exhibits on 3 floors and then ate lunch before returning home. It was 176 mi roundtrip for us. Our next excursion is to go to Daytona for a couple of days in Aug.

Pat - I think we have training until the end of August and then we'll be on our own. There is a lot to learn. I really like the hands on learning, it makes so much more sense.

NJ - Thanks for the encouragement, both on the job and the diet. Congrats to Josh on another win!

Nancy, glad you didn't really get rain on Sunday, and were able to get the mowing all done. I know you feel good for having it done.
Congratulations on re-starting the 17 day diet. I'm rooting for you. I understand being able to do better with hubby gone - it would be so for me, too, if I were going to start an actual diet.
Good for you for hanging in there with your job. I'm certain you'll do well alone, and I'm glad that working with someone else in the meantime is helping. emoticon

Pat, I'm rooting for you, too, on the 17 day diet. I know what it's like regaining some of the pounds lost.
You WERE very busy trimming and pruning for the park. I'm sure the entrance is beautiful and so welcoming.

Josh played a make-up game this evening, and won. His team played well, but the other team helped, too -- they made numerous errors, allowing Josh's team to reach bases and make runs, too.

I'm wishing you all a great rest-of-the-week.

Nancy glad to hear that the training is going good and you are enjoying it. Sounds like soon you will be handling things on your own. I know it will be challenging at first but soon you will be doing this on your own and feeling so proud of yourself.

Pat - Thanks for the encouragement. You did have a productive day. Training went well today. We're working cases in groups of two. It makes so much more sense when we actually get to work the cases instead of watching other people do it.

I walked this morning and then spent 2 hours working in the park gardens doing mostly pruning and trimming of shrubs and trees. I try to keep our crepe myrtles fairly small as they are in the entry island and if I allow them to get too large they would impede traffic. I had a full load on my golf cart and it has a flatbed on the back!

I gave Abbie a bath after that and we have done 2 loads of laundry so I guess it has been a pretty productive day.

Thanks, Pat. Today was day one. I didn't follow it exactly, but I did pretty good.

You can do this Nancy. I need to get on it for another 2 cycles. Just lost my mojo and have put back on 5 lbs of the 19 I lost and that isn't good.

Pat - My son got his first mini bike after he finished third grade. It was his reward for getting good grades. He needed a little incentive. I'm glad you enjoyed your lunch. I'm not a huge seafood fan.

NJ - I'm not sure which day you are referring to. We've had so much rain this summer. I don't think it rained at all on Saturday. Sunday it looked like rains I we tried to hurry and mow before it rained. We didn't get very far before we felt a coupl drops. But that was all we got so,we finished. It rained a bit again tonight. I wouldn't have wanted to be playing ball in the nest we've had lately. It's been awful.

I'm starting the 17 Day Diet again. Today was day 1. I'm determined to make it work this time. I need to do something to jumpstart losing. Hubby is traveling, that will make it a little easier.

My hat's off to you, Pat, and all others who ride bikes. Wow! Three years old. Your son was one determined boy, wasn't he.
Oh, oh. Bless Abbie's heart. I hope all that medicine (and supplements) help her. I hope the teeth cleaning goes well.
Fantastic! A special on crab legs plus a coupon! emoticon The only thing better would be if it didn't cost you at all. LOL So nice that you were able to get the deal and have crab. Yes, they are a lot of work, but I've figured out a really good way (for me) to get to the meat. What's funny is watching DH struggling with it, ignoring the comment or two that I give him. I usually just sit and watch. Haha.
There's 'new' restaurant not too far from us, and we keep talking about going and trying their crabs. One reason and another we haven't yet done it.

I'm with you, Pat - the older I get the less I want to do things where I could easily get hurt. I obviously have enough trouble just walking down the last stair!
Oh, bless your heart! That's a lot of rain in such a short period of time. Poor Abbie, having to put up with even more thunderstorms. What a shame she can't get past her fears. But then, I have a terror of snakes (any kind, even dead ones) so I can understand not being able to get past fear.

Gee, Nancy. $50 per person to ride is a lot - charity or not. Still, I'm glad you were able to get a ride in. Yes, hot is hot even if you are tooling down the road. That's why our convertible top stays up when the temps call for the use of AC. That convertible is DH's 'baby' - a Solstice - I hate taking trips in it. Too small in my mind. Did it rain the other day?
Um, hm. It does look like fun to ride a bike, but like you, I'd be scared to ride in traffic, especially since with some non-bike motorists not paying attention.

Thank you, ladies. I thought I WAS being careful the other day, but obviously I did something wrong. sigh. I haven't done any exercises since I went back into the boot, but maybe I'll see if I can do something in awhile. Something's got to give. Certainly I'll quit if there's pain.

Josh's team won both Saturday games and Sunday's game (noon!!) but lost the championship. The heat and humidity were brutal - mid-90's plus 75% or more humidity. We were thankful for our canopy. I noticed the boys drank a whole lot, which was good. Too bad the umps didn't halt play once or twice in each game to give the boys a chance to cool off a bit. At least nobody suffered from heat stroke.

Next is Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. They are guaranteed games on four days, with championship and condolence games to be played after that.

Have a great week, everyone.

I guess it would be a bit scary now-I got my license back in my 20's. We used to ride our sons so DH & I both had a bike. My one son got his 1st mini bike at 3! Dad told him if he learned to ride a bike he would get him one! Kid went right out and did it so......had to take off the big ole seat that came on that mini bike and put on a banana bike seat till his legs got long enough. The other son was content to ride with his brother till he was 6!

Took Bill to Quest this morning and then Abbie to the vet. She is now on antibiotics, a antihistamine, and fish oil tablet and will get her teeth cleaned on Aug 7.

I had a finance meeting this afternoon and after that we went to cody's to use our coupon for a free meal that we got about a month ago. They had a special on crab legs so used it for that-$14,99 for a lb of them. Yum, yum. I haven't had them in probably 5 years so enjoyed them even if they are a lot of work.

Pat - I keep going back and forth about learning to drive. I think it would be fun, but the scared part of me always wins. I don't think I would do well in a lot of traffic.

Glad you did get a ride in if even a short one. We have friends who have a Spyder and she even drives it. 2 of my brothers own Harleys-they tell me it is all because of me-I took them riding when they were young!! Sold my dad our bikes as we bought bigger ones. We were so poor when we were young and in college that was all we could afford so we both could get to work and school!!

NJ - I'm sorry you hurt your foot again. I hope it,feels better soon.

Pat -'I think it's cool that you used to ride. I'm too skittish.

We did go for a ride, but not the long one with the group. Not was for the state police and they were charging $50 apiece to ride. I don't mind contributing to charity, but that was a bit steep. Plus the radar showed rain coming and it was really hot. We went for a ride to lunch then back home.

NJ I do hope you will be careful if it is raining-that bag over the boot will make it even easier to slip and slide. I can sympathize-no fun wearing that boot but better safe than sorry. Are you doing exercises to strengthen the ankle/foot. At one time a had a round board (plywood) with a round wooden ball attached to the middle and I had to rotate my foot on that for therapy. Guess it got lost in one of our moves but it was a good exercise tool.
Nancy hope you had a nice ride if you decided to go. It has been so long since I have owned a bike that I no longer miss it and the older I get the less I want to do things that I might get hurt doing- emoticon -I had my own bike and have taken a couple of spills because of people pulling out in front of me-better to dump than hit them! Glad the tornados didn't hit near you. I keep thinking someone from our community lives near where it hit but haven't figured out who yet!
Jenny glad to hear your mom is making progress in her recovery. Praying all goes well for you.
We got about 2" yesterday and so far about 1" today. It has rained off and on here since noon and I am hearing thunder again so may be getting ready for round 3.
We went and bought a new faucet this morning so hoping we can get it installed next week.

Oh, Pat! I'm so glad you'd been dismissed so there wasn't a warrant out for your arrest. "Funny"? Yes and no. I don't have any excusable reasons for not serving, and frankly, I'm glad. I look at serving on a jury as I do voting - a privilege and also a responsibility. But Nancy, I'm not sure I would like being on a jury for a murder case. {shudder} The first time I was in a jury pool, I was impaneled for a state case of a guy who was caught dealing drugs from his motel room. After the first prosecution witness (the cop), the defendant changed his plea to "guilty" so we were through.
I agree with Nancy, 16 years for a faucet sounds about average - again, things just aren't made as well as they used to be. emoticon I do hope you can get someone to install the new one.
Bless all y'alls' hearts. Yes, you'll miss Abbie, but I'm sure you'll console yourselves knowing she's better off staying with friends. Sometimes we miss Darby when we're gone, so I understand it.

Jenny, it's great news that your Mom is doing better and healing nicely. I pray that continues. Wishing you well with your MRI and the later appt. for your hands. I pray you'll be very aware of God holding you in his hands.

Nancy, I'm so thankful that no tornadoes came too close to you. Bad enough that you were probably under a tornado watch.
If you and DH do decide to go for a ride, I hope you have a safe and fun time.

I was barefooted yesterday and went to slide into a folding chair - don't know exactly what I did, but I boogered my foot somehow and it made me cry. emoticon I'm back in the boot. emoticon sigh. I thought I was being careful. As I told God yesterday, "ok, I don't like this. I'm disappointed. But if this is what you (God) want for me right now, then this is where I need to be." THAT is a significant move in attitude. Remember several weeks ago when I railed and fussed and complained? I'm allowing God to work in me, although I don't perfectly "have the mind of Christ" as scripture says,

On to Josh (I promise this will be short LOL). Another weekend, another tournament. Josh's first game will be 5:20 P.M.! Then he'll play another game tonight. After that, the decision will be made as to his one guaranteed game tomorrow. If they win that, they'll play another.
Thunderstorms are predicted to be at 50% chance at game time. Hmmmm. I see a plastic bag over my boot. emoticon

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone.

Never, EVER give up. Just pick yourself up and keep going.

Pat - We had thunderstorms here Thursday night and it was hot and muggy yesterday. I'm sure it wasn't as bad as where you live though. I think 16 years is a long time for a faucet to last I. This day and age. Nothing is really built to last.

NJ - Thursday was a bad day for storms. There were three tornados around here, thankfully, none too close to me. I had jury duty one time and it was for two weeks. It was a murder trial. I hope I never get called for something like that again. It was awful. Keep pampering that ankle as long as it needs it.

We have t decided what we're doing today. There's a ride today but we're not sure if we want to go. It's early so we have time to decide.

NJ funny (could have not been so funny though) story-I got a card that I was called to jury duty and got it before we were heading north for a visit. I thought I remembered the date when we got back and had it wrong-it was the week before and I had not gone! Well, I decided I might as well call and see if they had a warrant out on me for missing and emoticon I found out that I had been dismissed so I was ok. The next time I was called Bill was going for therapy and since he can't drive I got excused so I haven't served down here but did several times when we lived in STL. I actually worked across the street from the county courthouse at the time so it wasn't hard for me.
Abbie will be staying with our close friends, Barb & Eddie, while we go on our trip in Sept. She does not like being left in a motel room so this will be better for her but will be hard on her daddy (and mommy) to leave her that long. The longest we have ever left her has been a week.

Our kitchen faucet has rusted - the bolt is broken and I need to go shopping to get a new one and hopefully we can get someone to come and install it for us. Not sure why it rusted out but it is at least 16 yrs old so guess nothing lasts forever!!!

Looks like late rain today-hope we end up getting some but hopefully no thunder.

Hmmm, a half inch of rain is a pretty good downpour. I'm glad Abbie's problem is only with thunder. Poor little girl. She sure is lucky to have you and Bill to hold her during the storms. You have my sympathies with the heat and humidity. Not sure how the numbers stack up, but when I lived in the Memphis area, I always felt like a needed a second shower right after going outdoors. emoticon

I drove myself to stitching tonight, and managed, although with some ankle twinges. I'm going to pamper it tonight. Had a real good time at stitching and at the animal shelter this morning. It was so nice to see several people and of course, the kitties. Several of the ones I had in the kitten room before are now adopted - that's great. Right now the kitten room has only two 5 week old kitties. They are so cute!

Never, EVER give up. Just pick yourself up and keep going.

Nancy, too bad y'all couldn't have a Harley Ride Day for the kids with muscular dystrophy. Sometimes I think the adults get as much out of such things as the kids do.
I'm glad things are better at work. Hopefully you won't get that awful trainer again.
Yea, I too think that some dr's just want you in often for the money they'll get. That's what I think about the dr I'm seeing now - I'm trying to find a new one. This one wants me in every six months whether I need it or not - he won't give me enough refills on my maintenance drugs for a full year. His excuse "I just want to keep tabs on how you're doing." MY FOOT! I'm glad you found a new eye dr who is backing off a little on how often you see him, and yet is keeping a close eye on your glaucoma. Pardon the puns. I'm glad the drops seem to be helping.
I'm so glad you dodged the worst of the recent storms. Last Thursday we got a doozy of a storm (I wrote a little about it that night).

Pat. traipsing around with friends sounds like fun. I hope you all have a good time.
I've pretty much resigned myself to at least some rain every weekend, except this past weekend was pretty good.
I'm sorry you need eye drops; but isn't that better than surgery? Hopefully the drops will help keep some of the problems at bay awhile longer. Have I ever told you? Don't ask "what's next?" because you probably wouldn't want to know ahead of time. LOL After all the problems I've had these past months, I've learned to just wait - trouble will find me soon enough.
Wow! Breakfast for two for only $11 - great! I know breakfast can be so expensive, in my opinion.
Poor Abbie. I sorry she's so scared of thunderstorms. But at least you were home to hold her, and yes, she's more important than any ol' chores.
I hope that if her teeth need cleaning that it'll be a smooth event for all. How nice that she'll be all dolled up for hour trip in Sept.
Oh-oh. I'm glad you didn't even crack the lens, and doubly glad that Wal-Mart was able to fix it for you without waiting a long time.

Hi Jenny, Good to hear from you. I'm sorry your Mom needed surgery, but hope all went well and that she's well on the way to being mended. I know with that surgery that she'll need quite a bit of time. I'm sorry you have so much trouble with pain. Have you gotten a MRI appointment yet? Wishing you both well.

My ankle seems to be in a holding pattern, not real bad, but not well, either. I try to be faithful with the exercises. Pat, I do try to be careful at the ball fields, but last week was a fluke with the rain - I hurried a bit much. Sooooo, I plan to take the walking boot (and a plastic bag to cover it if necessary) in the car trunk to this next tournament. It's close enough that we plan to come home Saturday night. Later is a 3-4 day tournament at Rehoboth Beach. Rehoboth is a BIG draw for tourists, so things will be crowded all weekend, but we still hope to get to the beach some. DH and I may just walk the boardwalk, as we aren't swimmer/waders, or people to lie in the sun. emoticon I will be taking sunscreen. We may walk in the sand, although I seem to recall from last year that it costs $5 to get on the beach. emoticon

I like breakfast for dinner now and then, but DH says "breakfast is for breakfast." Ok, doing what I can to keep the 'master' happy. LOL
We went to church this past Sunday, much to the amazement of some people. Ha! We went because we had to count offering afterwards. Josh's team lost both games on Saturday - it was like they were a different team. They were guaranteed a game on Sunday, and won it, so they went on to the next game, which they lost. Oh well, you win some, you lose some.

I have my own September 'event'. I got a notice the other day to report for jury duty the whole month of September. Seems like a long time, but maybe because it's federal and not state. Of course, if I serve on a jury, I'll be through, even if the month isn't. And the nice news is that I'll be paid, so part of me hopes I don't serve at all that month. LOL Greedy little me. DH got a BS in Political Science in college, so he's all green-eyed. He really would like to serve on a jury, and this will be my second time since moving here. Hahaha

Y'all have a great Friday and weekend.

We got 1/2" of rain yesterday. My gal calmed down once the thunder stopped. Today we have had rain all around us but nary a drop has fallen here. Wind is blowing but it is quite warm and muggy. Ugh.

I got my walk in early and then walked Abbie 1 round. I did get the roses in the front of the park deadheaded and my ironing caught up. Bill did the sheets so tonight we have a clean bed.

Up early today as Abbie had to be at the groomer by 7:30 and she lives about 30 min from us. Of course we had to get ready and we had to walk her to take care of "business" but we made it on time. Vickie & Sonny rode along and we stopped for breakfast on the way home. With a coupon, Bill & I ate for $11!
I got a few things done when we got home-have set up an appointment to get Abbie in to the vet next Mon and she will determine if her teeth need to be cleaned (she told me they needed it when we got her shots update in May) and then we will get that taken care of. By 10:30 we were on our way back to pick up our girl. She looked so cute when we picked her up. I set up her appointment for Sept. so she will be groomed just before we leave on our trip.
On the way home I stopped at one of my favorite thrift stores (have nice upscale clothing) and got a cute sundress which I will wear with a light jacket so I can wear it to church. While I was trying it on, I dropped my glasses and managed to knock one of the lens out and I could not get it to pop back in so had to stop at Wal-Mart on my way home and get them fixed.
We are getting some thunderstorms now so holding Abbie. Need to be doing some more chores but she is more important!!

What medicine are you using for your drops? Dr. put me on timodol. Tonight was my first dose. I am to do it twice a day 12 hrs apart and he will recheck me in a month to see if it is working.
Today I did a lot better-I walked early and then got my minutes typed, balanced receipts for the park for beautification, took that to the office and turned it all in and then made copies of a brochure on budgets and reserves for myself and 2 others while there. I got my ironing caught up when I got back and Bill did the laundry! Vickie and I ran errands this afternoon so it has been a busy, busy day. We settled for breakfast for our dinner.

Pat - We dodged the bullet. They were calling for possible severe weather and i think it was north of us. My husband's flight got cancelled because Chicago had storms. I've been being treated as a "glaucoma suspect" since I was 35. For me it means putting drops in three times a day and going to get my eyes looked set every few months. The last doctor I was seeing kept wanting me to come in every few weeks. That was too much. My new doctor said the pressure is fine and to come every few months. It makes me wonder of the old doctor was just trying to get more money.

Nancy hope things are ok-looked like your area was in the bulls eye for severe storm.

I went to eye dr today and instead of needing cataract surgery I am going on an eye drop to lower the pressure in my eye. My pressure is normal but he feels that my pressure my need to be even lower. I have macular degeneration, druins, and now he suspects I have glaucoma. What next?

Pat - We didn't end up going. My husband's back was bothering him and he was also afraid that there wouldn't be many riders since it wasn't well organized. We went one year and did t even get to give the kids rides because we were the only trike. Since there wasn't enough bikes for all kids to ride, none got to.

It's hot and muggy today and they are calling for possible severe storms. My walks today will be indoor.

Thanks for the update Jenny. Pray your mom will heal quickly.

NJ sorry you hurt your ankle - hope it continues to improve. I know how easy it is to do. Be careful walking to and from those ball parks when the ground isn't level. Sorry rain is causing so much havoc with the games.

Nancy hope you were able to go to the camp-I know the kids really look forward to things like that. We have a camp here for kids with disabilities and used to take the dogs there and they loved that. Paul Newman was one of the sponsors originally of Boggy Creek and there are other big names who help to keep it going.

We went to breakfast before church today and this afternoon we met with Vickie & Sonny and tried to figure out where we could meet up with the other couple who will join us on our trip in Sept. It should take us about 5 days till we meet up as we have a couple of things we want to see before meeting them in Iowa.

Hi everyone I know I haven't post in a while so I thought I would post now. This past Thursday was the day Mom went in for surgery on her right shoulder. She was in surgery for over 2 hours before the surgeon told me anything. She has abductor splint on her arm to immobilize her right arm. The surgeon told her she had 3 tears in her rotator cuff and the longest was over 2 cm along with the bicep muscle being out of place as well. I have gone to more appointment with my pain doctor than I can count. The situation with my heart was a fluke. I am currently dealing with shoulder pain. I am waiting for a call from a hospital to call to schedule an MRI for my neck. They did x-rays on both shoulders and nothing showed up so Rita thinks it may be neck causing the pain.

Pat - One of the things they stress over and over at work is being "flexible and adaptable". Things are constantly changing and we have to be able to deal with it. It sounds like you had a good day yesterday.

NJ - I'm glad you were able to enjoy Josh's game even though they lost. Sorry you aggravated your ankle. Maybe a rest day will help.

We didn't do much after we ran errands yesterday. We have a campground nearby that has a summer camp for kids with Musculsr dystrophy. They have a day where Harley riders gather and give the kids a parade then they riders who have a trike or a sidecar can give the kids a ride. We've gone a couple times and it just touches me. The camp gives the kids a chance to do normal kid things and not worry about their disease or disability. We're supposed to do thst today. But it looks like it might rain. I hope it doesn't ruin the day, it means a lot to the kids.

Nancy, doesn't just seem like some days you're 'dying' for rain, and other days you get tons more than the ground can handle! I'm glad you weren't in the flooded areas.
I'm also glad you've found a place for really good meat, even tho' it's a tad expensive. I'm with you: worth the cost.
It's good that you don't have only that one trainer, but really, required to read some points or not, I agree: why not just read the high points and let the students read the rest on their own?? Wishing you a good week ahead.

Pat, I'm so glad you've been able to catch some Cardinal's games. Yes, too bad they lost a couple to the Cubs. ; )
Congratulations to Vickie for losing so much weight she needs new clothes; and great that she's finding some things at a thrift store. What a find she got! And you, too.
Whew! it WAS a long day for you the other day. I'm glad, too, for Abbie that there weren't any thunderstorms while you were gone.
Congratulations on making it to all those sales and getting such great 'finds' for yourselves and the park. Kudos on getting the $5 and free lunch, especially since they don't hassle you about buying another car.
Hopefully, now that you're not working in the office, you'll have more time to read. I love doing that myself. : )

We've gotten wet some this week with Josh's ballgames, but today was beautiful. Slightly less hot and humid. We were able to put up the canopy at one game today, and there was a little breeze which made it all enjoyable. Good thing, since this team Josh is on isn't as good as another one is, and they lost both of today's games. That's the way the ball rolls, pardon the pun. They play again tomorrow, but we won't be there because we have responsibilities at church. There will be another tournament next weekend, and maybe a few games during this week.

I SLIGHTLY aggravated my ankle going up (then down) a truly serious incline to get to/from the field Thursday. I wore my black store-bought ankle support today. Helped.

We got up at 5:30 this morning so we could get to Josh's ball field before the game started. : ) I grabbed a nap after we got home, and DH made supper even tho' it was my turn, so it's been a rather laid-back evening.

I noticed my FitBit Charge only counts some of my trips up and down the stairs.....same set of stairs. Go figure. I don't particularly care but do find it interesting. All-in-all, I do like the Charge.
Have a great Sunday, and start to next week.

Never, EVER give up. Just pick yourself up and keep going.

Nancy happy to hear that training for the most part is going well. I guess you just have to roll with the flow. It was nice you were able to get pretty much everything done so you can relax this weekend. I am like you, I will pay a bit more to get a better grade of meat. I have a friend who goes for the cheapest thing out there. Doesn't work for me. As long as we can afford it, I will buy a better grad of meat and fresh fruit and veggies. I got raspberries at Sam's Club and very disappointed-had to pitch half of them-they just disintegrated when I washed them! Looked beautiful in the box but must have been frozen and then thawed as that is how I find they do after I thaw-I mainly use the frozen ones in smoothies.
We had a fun day today-up by 7 and out of the door by 8 to do a few yard sales. We have not gone recently but figured we needed to get out in spite of the heat. Vickie & Sonny went along. We started at a Trash to Treasure sale at our local community center and I picked up a pr of denim shorts for me and a gift for Vickie's GD for Christmas. She loves to do pedicures and they had a brand new kit to keep toes apart still in the original packaging with pumice stone, etc. I got that for 25 cents. From there we went to an estate sale in town and picked up a couple of glass items for craft projects. Then we went to a couple more yard sales, another estate sale and a thrift store. I got a butterfly house for the park, a beautiful bowl and vase to make a bird bath, a pr of Levi shorts for DH, and a ball and glass dish for a totem or other garden project. We ended our morning at the local Dodge dealer and got our free $5 worth of golden coins and a free lunch. The dealers around here send out mailers giving out various prizes but one mostly "wins" either $5 in golden $1 coins or a $5 gift card to Publix or Wal-Mart but since it doesn't cost us anything we go gather our loot. They don't even try to pressure us into buying when we come in a group of 4! We have collected over $50 in the last 9 months.. We probably could have doubled that if we had gone to every one we got. Free $$ is free money in my book!
I read this afternoon in my book and I am almost half done with 1. I have 2 that are due in 17 days and one in 20 so need to keep reading. Didn't expect the one I put on hold to become available so soon!!

NJ - I'm sorry the games got rained out out and that you got soaked the second night. It's been so rainy this summer. I heard that we got 4 inches in a few hours Wednesday night. There were roads in town that were flooded. The fields were flooded too.

Pat - It sounds like you had a nice day yesterday. Shopping then lunch out.

Training did get better. Hey are required to,read some of the job aids to us. I still think they could just hit on the important things. I also think a lot depends on who is training. We have three different trainers, and they all do things differently. It's cloudy today we it going to be a mostly lazy day. We need to run to town for meat and what ever else my husband needs. We get our meet from a butcher shop. It's s little. Ire expensive m but the meat is so much better.

NJ I can't blame you for wishing they would call the game before you have to drive that far. Even though gas is cheaper now, it is still a waste to go if they don't play! Glad Josh's team was ahead when they called the game.
We have been able to watch a fair number of the Cardinals baseball games lately so that is what we have been doing most evenings. I may have moved from STL but still a diehard Cards fan. Sure hated that they lost 2 games to our biggest rival, the Cubs!!
Nancy I too would have been aggravated with the trainer reading the exercise to you. Vickie & I took an educational class at our extension office (in fact, we have gone to several) but one time the lady simply read the booklet-duh, we left at break-like you said, we can read!! All the other classes were much more interesting and we did express our feelings about this one. It was a different lady who was conducting the class.
DH had to go have his hearing aides checked today so that took part of the morning. Vickie & Sonny rode along and we went to a favorite thrift store afterwards. Vickie has lost weight and is looking for "new" clothes and did find one pair of slacks. She tried on a number of things but that was all that fit right. She also purchased a watch-all for under $9!
I got a long sleeved winter knit shirt for DH for $1. When we pay these prices we don't mind it if something happens to the clothing.
We ate lunch at the seafood restaurant in the same plaza and then went to Sam's Club. By the time we got home it was after 3 and we had left at 9:30! Glad we had no storms today as Abbie was home alone.

Well, this half-drowned rat is home again. We got to the ball field as the skies started clouding over. The ump called the boys onto the field. Josh was pitching this eve, and took his warm-ups. Before he could pitch the first actual ball of the game, there was lightening and a huge thunderclap. It had started to rain just before that, but at that point there was lightening, so the ump cleared the field. DH and I grabbed our stuff and made for the car, but didn't get there before the skies opened up. With the torrential downpour, the ump finally called the game. Fortunately, the boys all crowded into the dugout until the rain lightened up. By that time, my SIL was there and he got them. DH and I were drenched. I wanted very much to say "I TOLD YOU SO" but nobody was listening. LOL It was a narrow, fast-moving band of storms, extending north of Harrisburg to south of where we were - narrow but violent.

Ok, that's tonight's saga. Like last night, we drove out of the storm on our way home.

Hope you're staying dry.

Hi, Ladies. Here it is Thursday afternoon already.

Nancy, I'm glad you were able to get a ride in (and a productive one, at that) the other day. I love the rockets on July 4th, and guess that's what you were able to see, too. : )
Oh my. I hate it when a trainer of any kind gets up and reads to you what is already in your hands. Duh! Hey trainer, we CAN read. Maybe next week will be better.
Sounds to me like you did a fair amount of cleaning - I figure: who says I have to do certain things every week?

I try to get some produce when we shop every other week, but sometimes it goes bad. sigh. Maybe I should try keeping it on the counter instead of in the fridge, but I do like cold fruit.
DH and I are working on the watermelon I bought for Jul 4th but never served (forgot it). Yum! and few calories and lots of water in it.

Yes, Pat. We generally are on-call, but mostly don't mind it. One day recently we were asked to do something, but DH and I already had an unbreakable appt. I hated turning them down, but they understand we can't ALWAYS be available.

Last night's game was probably 30 miles from us and we got there in plenty of time. It very lightly sprinkled on and off during the game until the 7th inning had JUST started. (They only play 7 anyway). Then there was lightening nearby, and the ump cleared the field for a 30 min. delay (regulation). About 10 minutes later, there was another lightening strike, and a big boom of thunderstorm. DH and I and several others started packing up our chairs, etc to head to the car, and the ump called the game. Since it was so late in the game, and Josh's team was ahead, it went into the books as a win for them.

There's another game scheduled for tonight at the same field. The weather prediction is even worse. At game time, they are predicting the start of severe weather: thunderstorms with lightening, strong winds, maybe hail and even possible tornadoes. sigh. We'll still be taking the boys down there, but I'm hoping that they won't even start the game. Wish the field was a lot closer, though. Really wish they'd call the game before we need to leave. Ok, enuf fussing. : )

I hope the weather where you are is much, much better than what we're to get this afternoon/evening.

Never, EVER give up. Just pick yourself up and keep going.

Pat. - I hate to admit it, but I end up wasting s lot of produce. It always looks good and I end up buying more than I can eat before it goes bad. I'm out of fresh fruit right now and can't wait to get more tomorrow night when I go shopping. I should get more apples and oranges, they last longer than berries and peaches.

Nancy the older I get, the more I find that things don't have to be "perfect". I keep things picked up daily but don't do a thorough cleaning every week. I dust every 7-10 days and use my dust mop as needed! I love my steamer mop as I can run it and tile looks great and it doesn't take long.
NJ sounds like you are on call but don't mind so it is all good. Hoping the rain doesn't become an issue but the old saying goes-you can't fool Mother Nature. emoticon

I enjoyed some celery and a couple of plums for lunch. The more it is in front of me, the more apt I am to eat right. I want to get a watermelon once we eat the grapes and apples we have. If I get too much then something always goes to waste.

Pat - I want to start using less processed foods too. I know it will be healthier for us. I need to buy more fruits and prepare them like you do. I usually wash my grapes so,they are easy to,grab. I should cot,up some carrots and celery so they are easy to grab too.

NJ - We did go for a short ride. We needed a few things from the store so we rode into town, picked up the things from the store and went to Red Robin for lunch. Then it was home for the rest of the weekend. I stood in the windows of our living room and watched the fireworks. Ni could actually see them pretty well!

I'm tired tonight. I went t bed at 10 and didn't get up until 6:00 si I shouldn't be. I was awake a couple of times in the night so that would be the reason. Training was annoying today. New had a new trainer and she spent at least 30 minutes reading us the material we were supposed to read! I understand recapping the important stuff, but seriously, we can all read! We have some people in class, (one girl in particular) that likes to try to prove the trainers wrong. She poses it as a question, but we all know she is trying to prove she knows more than the trainers. It's very frustrating. I'm taking this week off from my normal cleaning to relax. I'll run through with a dust cloth and vacuum later and call it good.

{slobber, slobber. Slurp!} Oh Pat! just reading your post makes me want to dive right in. Thank you for the reminder to prep a bunch so it's all ready and there's less chance of putting off eating it.

Josh called this a.m. asking for a ride to his game tonight. No problem, but early this afternoon he called again to say that game has been postponed and he would like a ride tomorrow night instead. Of course that's no problem, ride-wise, but while the weather is good today, it's supposed to start raining tonight and into tomorrow. Ha!

NJ are you like me-I find if I wash and prepare my fruits and veggies we are much more likely to eat them than if I don't. I have a 2nd fridge so I put my watermelon in there for a day and then I get it out and cut it up and put it in big Tupperware bowls where it is easy to get some out. I wash my grapes when I bring them home and have them ready to just pull off a bunch. Then I tend to snack on those things instead of a cookie or chips. I even cut up my celery so I can put a little peanut butter on it so it makes a good snack with a little protein. The more I make it easy then the better I am at making sure I eat right.
Today I cut up a plum for a snack. I love them, just don't think to eat them if they aren't readily in sight!!!
I am looking forward to fresh corn on the cob for dinner tonight. I still have the green beans and potatoes left so will enjoy that with the corn and going to do an onion burger. About like getting a ground steak when you go out!!

I hope you all had a real nice weekend, doing things that pleased you. Nancy, did you and your spouse take a ride? And you're right - the 4th is a holiday, and who says the woman of the house has to do a lot of work. LOL

Pat, you certainly are and have plans for cooking and using more whole foods. Good for you! We have a 7 cu ft freezer in the basement, and were keeping it rather full; but when our DD and her DH moved into their apt, they couldn't take their 5 cu ft freezer, so Mom and Dad are storing that along with a few other things. My DH is putting more stuff in that one, too. I wish he wouldn't but I think that he buys a lot of stuff because they didn't have a lot when he was growing up. At least that's what I tell myself. emoticon

We were busy this morning doing yard work - mostly DH as he won't let me do any mowing, edging, or weed-whacking.....it's a man-thing with him. But I go out when he's done and sweep up the grass that ends up in the gutters. We live on a corner lot, so that's a lot of grass. I came in and showered, and am letting my hair air dry to give it a break from the hair dryer. I'll roll it later, maybe after a nap. Haha.

We were introduced to green beans and potatoes when we moved to PA. It's a good combination.

Funny thing, I insisted we get a seedless watermelon for the 4th, and it's still not cut into! On the 4th, we all were plenty stuffed, that the poor watermelon stayed in the cooler where we had it.

Y'all have a great week.

NJ I am all for the easy way out these days. I have told DH that once I get the freezers empty I am not going to have enough food on hand to feed an army!!! I am not doing very well on going to get it emptied either-while I was working we ate out way too much. I plan to start cooking more now that I have more time. I already cooked a pot of green beans with potatoes and we will enjoy that will an ear of fresh corn on the cob and either a burger or baked fish. I think I will make a meatloaf this week and that will use one pkg of hamburger!
I am trying to use more whole foods and less processed foods.
Enjoy your day with your family.

NJ - It's good thst you are spending today with family. There nothing wrong with taking the easy way out! No point in working too hard, after all, it IS a holiday.

We don't have any plans for today. We may take a ride depending on how my husband's back feels.

Oh, Nancy. I'm so glad your hubby is home, and SAFELY. It's too bad the flights didn't work out, but at least he made it home safely. I'm glad you were off today for the 4th. I'm a firm believer that all workers (with few exceptions) should have such an important day off. Of course, all police, firemen, and those in the medical field can't all have the day off, but I think employers should give the ones who work on the 4th, another day off. That's what happened when I worked for a CPA, and the secretary and I had to work the day after April 15th - the normal day off for CPA employees. We got SO MUCH work done that day, and then we took turns having another day off. : )

Pat! If I had a dentist who didn't give anything to deaden things before drilling, I'm afraid I'd have had to kick him and never go back. Of course, as a kid, you just can't do what you'd like to do. emoticon
How great that you were able to catch up at home now that you're not working. Ham and beans - Mmmmm. I ought to urge DH to make a pot soon; although as I recall, we don't have a ham bone in the freezer at this point - I don't think. Still, I think it would be worth buying a bone-in ham. LOL

I confess that we're taking the lazy way out for tomorrow. One daughter can only eat a tiny bit of dark meat chicken, so we'll cook a thigh for her. The rest of us will have hamburgers and cheese brots. We'll set out chips and dips (and I'll have to be strict with myself), and store-bought potato salad, along with carrot and celery sticks. Also, I need to go downstairs right now and make the marinated mushroom so they'll marinate overnight. Dessert is store-bought cookies in two flavors. Told you we are taking the lazy way out. Ha-ha.
The one daughter? She had gastric bypass surgery two months ago, and can only eat 3 ounces per meal, and not just any old thing. She will never be able to eat/drink some things. She told me a few weeks ago that she'd already lost 36 pounds since surgery.

Time for bed, but first those mushrooms. Have a great 4th, y'all

Never, EVER give up. Just pick yourself up and keep going.

I was off work today for the 4th. Hubby had to,work this week so he was supposed to fly home today. They delayed his flight and he was going to miss his conecting flight so he drove home. Arkansas to Illinois is an eight hour drive. He was home by 11:00. I got up early and finished my cleaning and did,he mowing so we can relax or go for a ride tomorrow.

NJ glad to hear the ankle is doing a bit better and you can put weight on it. Keep it up with those exercises. I can relate to the fear of dentist-when I was a kid I had one who didn't give you anything when he drilled soooo of course, I jumped and yelled and wouldn't sit still so guess what, all the fillings he did had to be replaced because he didn't drill deep enough to get out all of the decay. By the time I was 16-17 they all had to be replaced. I guess I was in and out of the dentist chair so much I just got past the fear.
Today I started on catching up on things at home. Did my walk and then Vickie & I ran some errands. Got gas for the car and then went to Lowes to get flowers to replace the entry island salvia as they went to pot and last we went grocery shopping.
I made a pot of ham and beans for our supper and invited V&S to eat with us. I also bought fresh green beans today so cooked them up with some new potatoes. I also made my jello salad for tomorrow so think I am set.
We played a couple of games of Hand & Foot before we ate and split the games so we all went home happy.

I'm so glad you were able to talk with your DH on your anniversary and that it made you feel better. Great that work is going well. It's wonderful that what they're giving you now is making sense. emoticon Congratulations on your assessment results!

I hope you were able to get some mowing done - that it didn't rain on you. Have a great weekend with your hubby.

Pat, I'm so glad your dentists visit went well. Too bad you had to spend an additional hour straightening out something someone else goofed; but I'm glad you got it done.

Wouldn't it be nice if that man did buy the place and become a new neighbor - imagine having someone from "home" move next door.

Oh yeah, I'd stay away from water when it's lightening, too. Wise choice. : ) I know you'll soon fill your days again now that you're not working. I am glad you've gotten SOME rain, even if it's not enough. We may get showers tomorrow - of COURSE! It's a weekend, isn't it??!! LOL

Nancy, I know what put me off dentists. I was young and because I had (still have) lousy teeth, I was in the dentist's chair every time I turned around. They should never have been working on children - were better suited to work only on adults. But the kicker: 1- old drills got hot, 2- were stinky, and 3- were LOUD. The good news is that by the time I was about 31 or so (with 3 kids), I went to a dentist recommended to me. Before I opened my mouth more than a tiny bit, I told him I was scared of dentists, didn't like them, and wished I didn't have to be there. He asked if I'd ever had nitrous oxide? No. So he gave me a bunch of that even before he brought the needle close to me. I didn't feel a thing, LOVED it. Haha That lasted for several fillings and root canals, then he asked if I could do without - just have the Novocain. I managed.

The exercises are helping, but I sure do need to ice down my ankle when I'm finished. I can actually put all my weight on that ankle/foot.

I mopped the kitchen floor this morning - and I always stand on a bath towel and 'scoot' over it to dry it off. Iced the ankle again when I was finished - but at least the grimy floor is now clean again.

No baseball this weekend (whew!) but it will resume Monday.

I hope y'all have a safe, fun Jul 4th weekend.

NJ sounds like you are on top of things! It will be nice for both of you to be able to relax and enjoy the weekend.

I finished work today. I was almost an hour later getting out of the office than planned but had someone wanting to look at some of our resales so I took the time to do that before I came home as no one will be in the office tomorrow because of the holiday. Who knows, he may decide to buy a place and become a neighbor! He had lived in STL and was a pilot for TWA and we knew a lot of the same places! Small world.

We have had a lot of thunder, saw some lightning and having some rain but no downpour. I had planned to go to the pool but not going to do that when it is storming.

Pat - I like it when you're busy enough that the time flies, but not so busy thst you get stressed. I'm sure you'll be glad to get back to your normal routine.

Today was a good day. We had our assessment today on the things we've recently been learning. I only missed one question! We have 7 more weeks of training until we're on our own. I'm looking forward to just going in and working and not spending half the day in class. I have most of my housework done for the week, and worked in the flower beds tonight. I got most of thst done too. Tomorrow I will finish the housework and on Friday I will do the mowing while I wait for hubby to,come home. I'm off on Friday for the holiday.

NJ - I'm not a big fan of the dentist either. I was terrified when I was younger and I think that has carried over. I don't remember anything bad happening, just that I cried every time I went. Im glad you went to the doctor and confirmed nothing is broken. I hope the exercises help and don't cause you more psi .

Pat - I could also send you some rain. July is supposed to start off rainy too, they are calling for more storms tomorrow. I'm glad the dentist visit went well. Sorry you had to work an extra hour today, I hate banking errors.

Thank you both for the anniversary wishes. I was having a pity party today but felt better tonight after talking to my husband. Work is still going well. We have seven more weeks of training and the stuff we're learning now is making sense. Tomorrow we have an assessment so I'll find out how much I really do understand!

emoticon Nancy. Sorry you are spending it apart but hopefully you will enjoy a long weekend with DH.

My cleaning went well today-I didn't realize it was my annual visit and I had to have x-rays and be checked by the dentist but it was and it all went well with that too. I ended up working an extra hour this afternoon to help resolve a banking problem but think we got it all taken care of now.

Pat, I'm glad for you that your dental appt is for cleaning, and to take care of some problem. : ) I REALLY don't like going to the dentist, but do like how my teeth feel after they've been cleaned. Wishing you well with these last few days of work.

I'd sure love to send you our weekend rains - and they wouldn't even have to fall on weekends. That would help us with Josh's tournaments and help you with your need for rain. See: win-win. LOL

Nancy, I do remember how hard it was to work, take care of things at home, and get so many other things done, too. Hang in there - retirement will come. Good luck with the mowing.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY! I'm sorry you're apart. But it was nice that y'all celebrated last weekend.

Yeah, our humidity has come up again today. We had a nicely cool weekend, but the temp is rising along with the humidity. Of course.

I did go to the ortho dr today, who x-rayed my foot again just to confirm that nothing's broken. I got a slew of exercises for my ankle, and am about to start them. I'm actually dreading them because so many of them require putting weight on that foot. We'll see. If it's not rather better in another week or two, I'm to call and get an appt with a foot specialist. Ho-hum. Hope this all works.

Never, EVER give up. Just pick yourself up and keep going.

Pat - That was a great deal at the store! You seem to have a knack for finding good specials. Im looking forward to a shirt work week too. I hope you were able to get some reading done on your book. It seems t take me a ,one tome to read a book these days. Between work and taking care of the house and heard, I just don't have much time.

NJ - It's been cooler here lately too, but I think that will be ending soon. It's supposed to be humid today. That seems like a lot of money for a team to spend. I'm glad Josh's team did so well! Be sure to have your ankle looked at. My husband twisted his two weekend in a row when we were mowing our daughter's yard. Yes, the house we sold last Fall. He finally went to the doctor and he has either torn the ligaments in his able or stretched them to the point they won't heal without surgery. Please get yours checked.

We did the mowing on Saturday and he didn't bag it. I guess I'll start mowing again whole he's gone and not worry about gagging it. I'm off Friday and he has to fly home so maybe I can get it done Friday morning. He was supposed t be off this week but they decided they needed him. Today is our 36 wedding anniversary and we're spending it apart. Times like this I really hate his job. We celebrated last weekend, but I still don't like being apart. Oh well, hopefully soon we'll be retired and able to spend more time together.

NJ sorry the tournament was a big disappointment but happy Josh's team won in spite of everything.

Sounds like you should get that ankle looked at. One can break bones and not realize it, especially when you are wearing that boot.

I had a good day at work-just 3 more.to go. I have a dental appointment at 9 tomorrow so will go in to check for messages and then head to the dentist for my cleaning and then back to work.

We finally got some rain today-not a lot but every little bit helps!!

Yes, $1250 per team is a tad high, but not unheard of by any means. And, yeah, I'm not happy with the organizers of this tournament. Been to this venue before and didn't have all these problems. I hope they aren't going downhill. They had trouble keeping paper in the ladies' room, they ran out of some food items early in the day (the only day of an advertised THREE day event), and while it didn't rain yesterday, there were puddles on some of the fields. They did dress the fields, but they still showed some signs of the rain as the boys played.

The high yesterday got to about 75, but there was a brisk breeze, so it felt like 70 and we hardly saw the sun. And whine, whine, whine. But we did take jackets and wore long pants. We could have not gone, or left early. sigh. Sorry. I just needed to get that off my chest. Oh, Josh's team did wipe out the two teams they played, then went on the win the Championship game. emoticon

Pat, I'm so sorry it's hot down there, and that that means your breezes are also hot. emoticon

Bless your heart, I hope this week goes really, really well. At least it IS the last week, and with Friday a holiday, I hope it means that you'll have a great weekend.

I still haven't read the Sunday paper, and today feels like Sunday, except I got two key pieces of mail that I was expecting, so that's good.

One piece of mail was that I got both the dongle and the charging cable for my new FitBit Charge. Once I get it charged, I can start wearing it and seeing how many steps I can get in. Yeah, yeah, yeah - I'm still in the walking boot, so that means I'm not getting many steps. Speaking of the problem ankle, I'm just about ready to call for an Orthopedic appt. I messed up my ankle 2-1/2 weeks ago, and it's still tender and a little bit swollen. I'm old, and heal slower, but I think it's time to consult a professional.

On the bright side, today is a bit warmer, and I was able to finish one of the two ebooks I'm reading - why stop with one? Haha

I hope you all have a good week, and a super great holiday weekend.

Never, EVER give up. Just pick yourself up and keep going.
