I take magnesium to AVOID cramps. Maybe because I take prescription potassium?

My son just knocked me out the other night. Back in the day, both boys LOVED Skittles, and I just hated even smelling them. I told them they smell like rotten fruit and chemicals and they would shake their heads and said "Oh, mom..."

The older one has been home and eating real food since mid-May. On Thursday he told me that he had bought a pack at breaktime and couldn't finish them. "Ohmigod, you were right! Why did I think these smelled or tasted good?!"

Veg954.. I also discovered plain Greek yogurt (I like Fage brand best - full fat style). I don't eat a lot of yogurt, but never buy flavored or sweetened yogurt anymore. Sometimes I'll put a few berries on my yogurt, but without added sugars/sweeteners.

So much better than all those artificial flavors.....

I used to shutter at the thought of eating plain yogurt.
It had to be really jazzed up and sugary.
Had plain Greek yogurt for breakfast this morning.
Now I won't eat flavored yogurt.
Great shift! emoticon

VEG954,
Yes, I too feel your pain. After eating low carb for about 5 months everything changed.

I tried to eat some saltine soup crackers a few months ago, after a few chews I just couldn't bring myself to swallow them, and I spit them out. Plenty of other things are like eating salted cardboard too.

I can't see ever "going back"

A blessing IMO too. When you think about it, plain bread and plain pasta are pretty gross tasting. Thus, it's the things we put on them that we really like the taste of. So almost any food we used to eat can be made low carb easily by just leaving that part out or substituting lettuce wraps for bread, and zucchini noodles or broccoli for pasta. Tastes so much better and healthier too.

Blessing. Totally a blessing.

While a tiny part of me still goggles to think that I don't like the taste of perogis anymore, most of me is relieved. I still LOVE the smell, but the smell is actually butter and onions, and I still eat those!

I had my first slice of low carb bread today.
After being away from high carb foods and flours it was not a good experience.
I can't believe breads/pastries just don't taste good.
Is that a blessing or could it come back and cause problematic in the future?

Something to think about.

The spare (guest) bathroom is the cat room. (I have cats more often than I have guests.) There's not enough room in the bathroom for the litter and such except in the tub. It works.

Maw, seriously? The tub is full of (bags) of cat litter & other supplies???? Can you get one of those plastic bins & put the supplies IN the bin so you can take IT in and out of the tub???? Epson salt soaks in a tub is the only thing that keeps my body moving.

My house is in such disarray . . . I'm showing the house/room to several people as House Share companions . . . and I want them to see the REAL situation. This is NOT a Better Homes & Garden environment.

Right now I have 2 applications that will be considered. I never know until I check out their criminal and employment, education housing. The Angels guide me . . . legal availability and online checking allows me to check out information so that my Angels don't have to work so hard. LOL!

My 'emotional' binge eating is at rest again. Whewwwwww! It seems to happen after I spend a few days with my grandchildren and/or sons. Maybe I should take a sleeping pill for two days. LOL!

Easter Seals picked up all the extra furniture and stuff. I still have one more BIG piece of an oak Entertainment unit and is passe' now. I may pull it out to the terrace and see if anyone will pick it up as a 'freebie'. Then I'll have more room in my garage. Decisions . . . decisions . . .
I don't have to teach tonight. So, I can be here whenever the electrician arrives for the attic fan. Fingers crossed that the expense will be reasonable. I advised my 21 year old grandson to leave Political Science degree and learn to be an electrician or a plumber. Seriously, if you are good . . . they charge $75 an hour. Grrrrrrr! Breathe in . . . breathe out. People wonder why I hire handymen at $25 per hour. Mine isn't available for 2 weeks. (I hired him when no one knew who he was . . . now . . I'm on a waiting list. Life marches on.)

It's cooler . . . I have opportunities and options . . . what can I say? I'm a very lucky Woman!

Sounds like consulting an attorney would be a good idea.

Glad you can move today, Connie. Glad things are marginally better for you, Woubbie.

Don't if I'll be able to move by the end of the. Certainly by the end of tomorrow. I started today with 2-1/4 hours of Cat Care training at the animal shelter. It was fun, but it was definitely work. It was cleaning and feeding - emptying all the litter boxes (8 of them in the big colony room I worked on), wiping down all the surfaces, rubbing most of the carpeting on the beds and so forth to get up the hair that's worked down, feeding, emptying water bowls and refilling with fresh, shaking out the bedding, sweeping up, and recapturing the ones that get out. Then I helped another volunteer with the kitten colony. Same thing in there except she went in and I stayed out and we tried, not always successfully, to move things back and forth between us without letting the little ones out. Then we put treat dispensers in all of the kennels and colonies. Not hard work, but all of it on my feet and all of more than I'm used to doing.

Now I have to clean house before picking up a student for supper at my house, and then standing around the grill while I try to cook something.

Tomorrow I'll be at the food pantry all afternoon. I'm making a meatloaf that has zucchini in it, and I'll be demo-ing the food processor as I grate up 5 pounds of zucchini! Then making the meatloaf, and finally handing out samples. Again, not hard, just a lot of time on my feet.

The bathtub is full of litter and other cat supplies, Connie, so it's not really practical to soak in Epsom salts. Though, come to think of it, the bag of litter is almost empty so if I'm going to do it, now's the time!

Have a great day, everyone!

LOL Woubbie, sometimes the easiest solution is the best - Occam's razor! emoticon

Had a quiet phone conversation with the General Manager (who is still working out of state as ordered by the home office), and he and I think we might need to consult an attorney regarding our roles as corporate officers. The ownership of the company is the Danish parent company, and we are corporate officers out of convenience - signing documents, etc. However, I'm getting twitchy about the liability on us as individuals and when he's in the office Monday I think we'll talk about a quick consult with an attorney. The gulf between home office cultures, social norms, and legalities and ours is becoming more apparent to me, and I feel like it's time to make a concerted effort to cover my hiney until it goes out the door for the last time!

The other fun thing from work today is that the Operations Manager surprised me with a State Dept. of Ag audit (for the organic stuff). Really?? At year end? Nice. Told him he was out of luck on my participation since he failed to tell me anything about it ahead of time. Handed him two folders and a stack of unfiled invoice copies and told him to have fun. He slunk out and shut my office door behind him...

I really think I need to be self-employed. I think my team player skills are compromised.

I use magnesium and calcium for my leg and foot cramps although when I have been very active I still get cramps. I bought something on line called Hyland Leg Cramps. It used to have quinine in it but I don't think it does any more. They go under the tongue and help pretty quickly. Quinine is know for helping leg cramps. But you can't buy it any more. But it is in Tonic Water and my mom drinks some every night before bed and it helps her.

My 'nutritional gurus' keep telling me I'm low on magnesium and calcium. Seriously???? It's so confusing Woubbie, I sit in my Epsom salt bath and soak up as much magnesium as in those salts. I feel better when I soak. I know my bath water is very gray when I'm done. I'm sure it removes impurities that leach thru my skin. Yesterday I had lower cramps all day. My hips were screaming (not singing) to me. I was a little better when I did my walk/jog in the warm water pool during class last night.

I did take a 800 mg ibuprofen an hour after I returned home. I slept curled up and couldn't let blankets, pillows, or air touch my body. About 3:00 am I woke, uncurled . . .& put myself under the blankets. Ahhhhhhhhhh! Sitting in the car for all those hours this weekend causes me physical hip PAIN and aches. I can run, jump, kick with minor 'hip singing' . . . sitting shortens and tightens the ligaments and muscles. The tightness causes me more PAIN. I'd rather kick, jump, twist and run . . . It is easier on my body. Today . . . I can move again. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

I'm having a marginally better day today than yesterday.

Been doing a little reading on electrolytes this morning. It seems to me that every time I try to supplement because various sources recommend that you do (I'm thinking magnesium and potassium in particular) it causes odd little problems which may or may not be related. Like feet cramping at night. I used to associate that mostly with dehydration but ever since I started supplementing magnesium they're getting more persistent. Coincidence? Always a possibility. Anyway, now I added potassium, hopefully to balance things out. I still have the foot cramps, but now I've got a facial tic to keep them company. ARGHHHH. Again, coincidence? Possibly. I'm tempted to just guzzle some TUMS and lick some salt to add calcium and sodium and see if anything else weird happens!
