I'm glad that I just drink coffee black for the last 50+ years... I do drink tea from time to time later in the day. I don't use anything in that either usually.

#FITKRIS... That link you posted about the zenhabits... I LIKE the part about sitting for the 30 minutes and being up for at least 15. I'm going to start out with sitting for 45 and then up for at least 15. Brought a timer in here where my computer is and will set it - or take it when I'm sitting elsewhere. Then I'll work up to the 30/15. emoticon

I have made myself stand up when I play games on the computer though, have a laptop that I use in the kitchen at an island.. No place to sit there... So, that is a plus...

Joy, one thing I've learned over the decades is . . . all projects take longer to complete. It's a success when all parts are included and it finally gets done! YIPPEE!

Steamy - have a great vacation!

Leslie - pamper yourself a bit this weekend.

Connie - I wish I had your energy - you go girl! emoticon

Hubby and I just got done putting our new patio vertical blinds up. Took longer than expected, but well worth the wait. Love the new fabric color we picked out. Wasn't sure it would be the right color for the family room, but it turned out really well. Now, we just have to keep on painting the interior of the house.

I prefer heavy whipping cream in my tea, but I've been using coconut milk lately, since I'm not eating/drinking dairy at the moment. It's ok, and supposed to be very good for us. But I'd still rather have cream. I'm also not doing any kind of sweeteners, natural or artificial, and the coconut milk helps a bit with that, too.

Interesting discussion. While I don't drink coffee, I do drink iced herbal tea and I use about 8-9 drops of stevia in each cup. I guess I don't think of stevia as an artificial sweetener since it's from the stevia plant. Although different brands do process it differently and some add other things to it. You just have to watch the labels. Back in August I kicked my daily chai tea latte habit after reading this post (and I'm not into Zen, but this guy has some really good stuff on his blog):

zenhabits.net/no-joe/

I was drinking a lot of cream in my chai and felt like I was addicted to the stuff. I really didn't think I could give it up, but it wasn't as hard as I thought. I was already drinking tea the rest of the day at work, so I just started drinking it earlier. I'm not saying everyone should go cold turkey, cutting back gradually is certainly a good method too. You just have to experiment and find out what works. But realize that sometimes our mindset is so focused on one thing that we "can't" give up, that we fail to entertain the possibility that maybe it's not as hard as we think. But it does seem like a good idea to have something to replace what you're giving up.

Wow James, 5 cups of coffee a day!! Have you ever tried reducing your consumption? I drank about that much for years. I limited it to three cups when I started. But, brought it to two very fast. Then one morning cup.
So, a little equal once a day has got to be better than nine drops of anything , five times a day. That is a lot of artificial sweetener.

I'm glad I drink my coffee black. I only need 2 cups on an easy a.m. & 3 cups on a challenging a.m.

The sweetner discussion is interesting to me. My friend was missing 'sweets' so he used 'turvia'. OMG . . . that is so sweet that my insulin spiked & I have been craving sweets since Sunday. I was on a carb rush & craving more. I'm staying away from all those 'sweetners'. My body can't handle the surge. SWEET is SWEET & my body wants more. I'm drinking lots of water today & want to cleanse my body again. If I eat peaches, oranges & cherries, etc. my body wants more & more.

Breathe in . . . breathe out . . . it's a small set-back & learning curve. Whewwwwwww. My class this a.m. was GREAT! It really pushed my limits to keep an eye on all! Tomorrow there's 2 classes. I get to kick it up again! YIPPEE! Connie

I just wanted to let you know that my hubby and I are on vacation for the next week, so I may be a bit hit and miss.

I had to switch to half and half as well, regardless of the extra carbage. I use creamers to lower the coffee temperature as well as for flavor, so I end up using about a 1/4 C per cup of coffee! I watered down the cream a lot, and now I'm starting to water down the half and half as well. Suzanne's right about taking time to retrain your taste buds.

Thanks James and Leslie for that input. I know I must cut down on all of it and cold turkey on the cream will help me drink less coffee too. You are right, the carbs in coffee add up. I don't use sweetener in my coffee. I was connecting with a gal named Renee yesterday that lost all of her weight from higher than me down to less than 120. That is what I want and I just need to keep my goal in mind with every decision about what I put in my mouth! If she can do it I can do it too!

Mixed my coffee with a vanilla protein shake this morning as I headed to the first of 3 football games today. I hope the next two go better than this one--47-0 in the 3rd.

Faith, I switched to half and half and I have to say my insulated iced coffee cup is lots easier to wash out and now I'm not burning so many calories on cream! :) Maybe you can reduce the volume, switch to half and half, and not have to go cold turkey...

emoticon

I'm drained and tired today. I had an emotional meltdown last night and I think it was probably about a month overdue. I hear traffic slopping through wet roads outside, so I'm going to wait a little bit before walking the boys. I plan on puttering at home today and eating lightly, well-chosen foods, and just taking care of my whole self. I'm pretty sure that means NOT going over to my mom's apartment too... :)

Like Splenda, equal packets are bulked up, essentially with pure carbs.

Equal boasts less than a gram of carbs per packet, duh, each packet is 0.9 grams. Trust me it is at least 90% carbs. The only saving grace is that you use so little of it. But you might as well just use a little sugar rather than equal.

On the other hand, what I use is 10 drops of liquid stevia in my coffee, stevia is a protein.

One might not care so much, but to loose weight I need to keep my carbs to a maximum of about 30 grams a day, and say 5 cups of coffee can easily add 5 grams, a large chunk of that.

I put unsweetened almond milk and a dash of whipped cream in my coffee rather than milk. Milk is about 5% carbs, whipping cream is 3%, and unsweetened almond milk has less than 1%. Hey, when I want to loose weight I have to fight every gram of carbs.

I don't think I could drink it with just a tsp. Maybe I'll try. I usually use about 3-4 Tbsp in a 12-16 oz cup of coffee. And I may drink up to 3 of those a day. I think it is all a problem that needs worked on.

I probably need to cut back on my cream as well -- good idea.

Just after 2:30 pm, and I have done loads already. Got ebay packed, went to the post office, collected some parts, and have had the dogs to 2 different parks already! Feels good to be more active again.

Gonna check a few business-related tings and then take the rest of the afternoon off, just for myself! Read a bit, maybe nap, who knows? Bit it's going to be for ME!

Food is on track, and we've had a bit of sun. Couldn't ask for more, huh?

Happy Saturday!

Just to continue the coffee and cream discussion from yesterday, I drank coffee with cream and equal for my first five years on this plan. I gradually reduced the amounts. I carefully measured 1 teaspoon of cream and about 3/4 a package of equal.
You might not need to eliminate cream, just reduce the amounts and measure!
