I am sure you meant, tougher to lose, not loose. Right? Lol

I have to agree, at 50 or more grams of carbs in a day it gets tougher to loose. Seems like the insulin response to even those few carbs, to keep your blood sugar from going up by storing the carbs away, also locks up existing body fat.

My experience is that I loose at around 30 grams of carbs per day.

50 is a lot of carbs, not many people can lose at that level. Can you post a typical menu? I know if I ate that many carbs I would weigh about 150, at least. I certainly could not lose any weight at 50 carbs.

Suzanne - you said 50 carb is pretty high. I'm trying to stay between 30-60 a day. I usually get from 30-45, with the occasional ramp into 60 (about once a week, sometimes twice). Still high?

I can sympathize Joy- Im still struggling to find the balance that will take the weight off- I know what has been sabotaging me but even then I only go to a certain point and the loss stops completely.
SJP- Id like to have a thread we can post to on how to lighten up any recipe, not just a copycat. I see recipes all the time that scream for a makeover.
Trying to get a bunch of junk done before I leave this afternoon- my baby boy is being deployed so Im going to go see him off. Im already not feeling so hot about this and the infamous they here in the office are naturally giving me a hard time-

I agree that 1,000-1,200 calories isn't much. Depending on your height, activity level and body composition though, which I don't know - it may be enough. For someone barely 5' tall that may be plenty. I am almost 5'9" and fairly active so I'm not sure I could go that low without being hungry. If you are on the taller, more active side I would consider upping not lowering...just my opinion. I also think our hormones play a much bigger role in our weight than we know...after my hysterectomy I lost 5 pounds and have not gained it back, even though I'm eating the same - and I had tried to lose those 5 pounds FOREVER, but I just could not get below a certain weight. The only explanation I can come up with is the drastic hormone change. Maybe someone here is knowledgeable about the interaction of female hormones and weight...

SJP - I will look for the brand you mentioned at my grocery store and see if it is similar to the one I had at Longhorn Steakhouse. I guess it was a ranch dressing because it was creamy, but not too creamy. And they just sort of drizzled it on the cobb salad. Just enough to make me want to eat all of my greens.

Joy--

That lunch sounds lovely! I'm not a big ranch fan (I'm assuming you mean the smoky tomato ranch dressing?), but Giada's bottled smoked tomato vinaigrette is good enough that I've been playing with copycat recipes. So I can control the oil quality and reduce the carb count, you understand.

E-mail me privately if you'd like to try making your own version, and I'll ask you a bunch of questions about what the dressing is like. -G- Unless anyone else would like to join in? We could start a whole thread on decarbing, copycats, and shortcut cooking.

Heavy whipping cream, cheese, and nuts. Those are the foods I add when I need to gain weight.
Honestly, 50 carbs is still a lot. I would reduce the carbs. Ditch the nuts. Use dairy in limited amounts.

Reducing calories to 1000-1200 is pretty drastic. Even SP recommends that you don't go under 1200 calories a day. Just remember, people in the German concentration camps are said to have eaten between 900-1000 calories a day - and they were dieing off of starvation.

Today is a busy day - I have a new deadline that I need to meet.

I hope everyone had a great day.

Suzanne - I just eat real food. I am doing Atkins, basically. My goal is 50 grams of carbs or under. Calories were about 1400 to 1600. Tried to get close to 100 grams of protein and the rest was fat in the form of heavy whipping cream, cheddar cheese and almonds.

I am in my fifties now - I guess once we hit that magic age, we don't get to eat much. emoticon

But I am not going to give up. I will find my magic formula - it just hasn't happened yet.

Had my lunch already - it was soooo good! Best filet mignon I've had. And the cobb salad was excellent as always. Longhorn Steakhouse has a salad dressing that is a smoky tomato flavor. Wish I could buy it at my store.

Joy, I'm with you - I have done everything 'right' in terms of eating LC and cutting out carbage but I just do not lose weight without reducing volume! I used to pooh-pooh age as a factor, but I am now a believer. I am 51 and my body truly does not need or want as much food as I'm giving it. I believe that when nutrition gets denser and higher in quality we can thrive on less volume, but for me the challenge is figuring out how much and where the balance lies. If I ate like Suzanne I'd be as wide as I was tall! LOL

Quiet day at work today - I have a temp here working on some messy filing/organization projects, and then after work have a client. It's actually rainy outside and looks like Fall is here, but I think it's supposed to get nice again this weekend. :)

Changing your calories probably wont help you lose weight. You need to change your food. What do you normally eat?

Kris - thanks for starting the Thursday thread! I wouldn't know what day it was without the daily posts.

I am going to spend the day pampering myself because I am feeling down about my lack of significant weight loss. I have been lowcarbing since May 23 and have only lost about 4 pounds total. Happier with the inch loss, but still. It can be so discouraging when you are not getting the results you would like to see. I am going to change my nutrition tracker calorie range down to 1,000 to 1,200 calories, which I will then have to change all of my nutrition goals. I hope I can eat that little and not be hungry. emoticon

I am going to treat myself to some filet mignon at the Longhorn Steakhouse and a big Cobb salad. Then will come home and walk on treadmill.

Kind of a slow day here today at work. Not complaining though.
