Goodbye, summer. I'll miss you!

Last night was the last of the outdoor aqua zumba classes; they don't begin again until May. Sniffle! Tomorrow should be the start of walk-to-work season, but I quit my job last week, no formal written resignation notice-with-date but had to inform my manager that calls would be coming through checking on my performance.

Needless to say, the work and home to-do lists have acquired a few new items...

Oddly, I don't (yet) feel unsteady about my decision. Rather, I get the feeling that item should have been on my to-do list for a while.

Steadiness goal 1: Aqua exercise 2x/week -- check
Steadiness goal 2: paring down the to-do list. --Got some things done, added new items. Provisional check.

So what are we up to in October, Awareness? I can do that. Scheduling my off-plan eating in advance for once!

Goodbye September! I did okay today, but my mental and emotional state was sorta sluggish and low. Don't know why but everyone else at work was droopy too.

Food - good
Fitness - got up and worked out, no dog walk due to serious rain and no time
Self-care - meh

I like October Awareness - I can't believe how much I can be mindless!

I'm about to call it a night.
Monday:
1. Veggies - no, and had about 3 fruits today plus 2 cookies so carbs are too high.
2. Declutter/project - no
3. Kick it up - yes, went for an extra walk/jog tonight.
4. Lights out by 10:30 - planning on it, I'll have to retract tomorrow if I don't.

awareness works for me.

Bathed the dog yesterday, what a hassle! And he's the cooperative one. So that's one good for the next book.

Still pretty low energy. Got to drag the carbs back down, and the first step is getting rid of these apples! I ate one this morning without thinking, which is about 25 NC right there.

Sunday:

- Food: did very well! Made a pumpkin spice smoothie for lunch, had a scrambled egg for breakfast, and hot chicken salad for dinner. I made a chicken lasagna thing to shove in the oven tomorrow night, and prepped a pork roast to drop in the crockpot Tuesday morning. I'm setting myself up to have food available when I need it!

- Fitness: nice dry dog walk this morning which is really amazing because we've been getting slammed with storms all weekend. These Schnauzers have no idea how lucky they are...

- Self-care: food prep was exhausting but gives me a huge boost during the work week, read a little, caught up with several people via email, but failed to do much relaxing today. Still working on laundry, but will relax in between loads, and I'm going to bed on time!

Saturday:
1. Veggies - yes, but ate off plan last night.
2. Declutter/projects - no, battery in my sander was dead. Took a short nap instead. emoticon
No exercise and we had a late night at the band competition so didn't get to bed on time either.

Sunday:
1. Veggies - yes, but still not eating the best...
2. Declutter/projects - I'm saying yes because I finally got around to signing up to get my utility bills through email instead of snail mail. Will eliminate paper clutter going forward.
3. Kick it up - went for a long walk with DH after my 2 hour nap.
4. Lights out - on track to get to bed on time, whether or not I sleep after my long nap today is another question...

I walked, ate on plan. But then by this morning I was starving because I had not eaten enough yesterday. sigh, so I ate a few high carb things. Letting hunger hit is disasterous (sp?) for me!

I finally had a real day off. Felt like I did nothing but sit around and read, but in looking back at my To Do list I actually did accomplish a few things.

1) Fitness - extra long dog walk before the rain started dumping down
2) Food - on target unless I do something stupid before bed
3) Self-care - journaled, read recreational books, read self-improvement books, exfoliated with my new scented body scrub, gave myself permission to do nothing.

Whew.

Lord have mercy, where did September go?

I picked apples yesterday, which I am counting as a good, a chore that needed to be done. Never got to the gym tho', or even to my shopping. I'm still kind of dragging from the hunting days starting at 4 a.m.

Planning to bathe the dogs today, they're getting itchy. I wish those 'one month flea' things actually lasted a month.

I'm here, and I even did my knee exercises twice yesterday, and again this morning! At the moment I'm striving for steadily upward (though not in weight, of course!).

So, what's up for next month?

Long day and a raggedy week. I ate too much today but I also laughed so hard I couldn't talk. I'm tired. Going to bed. Missed all my goals today, but maybe not working on anything this evening is a form of self-care!

Woubbie, I've heard that about whitetails. Breed like rabbits and turn up everywhere. We have blacktails here, or mule deer in the desert areas. Not so prolific.

I'm eating a couple apples a day, hard to resist eating them right off the tree. Going to try to get some exercise in today, tracking food has already gone flooey. Maybe some organizing/decluttering also to get my last two points for the next reward book.

Too many nuts yesterday, but otherwise good and still doing well with veggies.

Nay, on the rare occasions that my DH goes "hunting" I always remind him that I'd rather he go "finding". Inevitably he won't see a single white tail until he pulls into the driveway and flushes 3 or 4 of them out of the yard. Those things are bigger pests than the raccoons.

As I was going to St. Ives,
I met a man with seven wives,
Each wife had seven sacks,
Each sack had seven cats,
Each cat had seven kits:
Kits, cats, sacks, and wives,
How many were there going to St. Ives?

My knee surgery is a month from tomorrow, four weeks from Monday, and I'll be gone for most of a week of that, which leaves me about three and a half weeks to get ready. I have done almost nothing along those lines, not even my knee exercises. I have got to get in gear! The house isn't going to get nearly as clean and tidy and decluttered as I had planned/hoped/dreamed, but I will at least get the living room, kitchen, bathrooms, and my bedroom done. I will! I will! I won't even think about the other rooms.

As for exercise, I have decided to have a personal trainer at the Y. It's pricey, but at least it will mean I have to be doing something, and I'm hoping that he/she will push/encourage/nag me into at least doing my knee exercises every day.

As for food, while I've been eating low carb foods, I've gained a couple of pounds. Grrrr. Right foods, wrong amounts. Got to get that in check, too.

On the plus side, I've got a freezer full of individual servings of casseroles so I'll have something to eat when I get home from rehab. I'll make up a bunch of soup and freeze it, and I should be pretty much set there. I'll do a big shopping of things that should last long enough that I can leave them for a couple of weeks and they'll still be good when I'm ready to use them.

My cats are so much fun! I got two foster cats when I got back from Wisconsin last week. Two females, one about 8 months old and the other a little over a year. They had both been really sick with respiratory infections, and the older one lost all of her kittens. They're over their illnesses, but had just been spayed the day before I got them. There was some hissing at first, but now they play and play and play, and sit on my lap and purr and run around batting things around at 5 am. The older one, the would-have-been mother, is considerably smaller than the younger one, but seems to have decided that the younger is her baby. It's so funny to watch her go up to the younger one, pin her down, and start washing her - hard! It reminds me of watching someone trying to wash the face of a little boy who really doesn't want to be washed. I am really enjoying having them around for a few weeks.

No venison for Nay!

I had a wildly busy day and ate carby crap at work before I even realized it.

Food - ugh
Fitness - managed a dog walk after work and after a client!
Self-care - deep breathing, not killing a client... I don't have much.

Well, I've been off deer hunting since Saturday (the deer are safe). Got in four days of exercise, and four days of less than 50 NC, so I'm eight points into my ten for a new book. Didn't do anything yesterday, and today is nearly gone with nothing done again, but hope to sleep well tonight and pick apples tomorrow.

Glad you've checked in, Maw. Please come back.

Wednesday:
1. Veggies - yes
2. Declutter/projects - no
3. Lights out by 10:30 - yes, even early. But I woke up at 4 a.m. feeling hungry and couldn't go back to sleep. Unusual for me to wake up hungry, and I'm still feeling that way this morning even after a protein smoothie and then 2 hard boiled eggs and bacon a couple hours later.

Steadiness 1: aqua exercise 2x/week -- Mon and Tues, so on track for three this week. I started AX because I was looking for an activity that wouldn't strain my pre-surgery and arthritic toes; turns out I actually enjoy it. Aqua Zumba is enough like dancing that I don't feel so much like I'm "working out," and it's hard to feel self-conscious when no one can see your body. And the strength training/cardio classes have toys! Playing with pool noodles and beach balls and things doesn't feel much like work, either.

Steadingess 2: To-Do List. For one brief and shining moment this week, the List was under three pages. Then I found more stuff to list. Sob. Checked off two items this morning, though.

Akheidi: good luck with the kitten hunt!

Tijuana Traffic Jam??!! Heidi, I must know what's in that...!! LOL

Both dogs were fine after getting home. Just one of those days, I guess.

Hump Day:
1) fitness - took a day off from walking the boys and didn't do anything else remotely active other than my usual trips up and down the stairs at work
2) food - good, other than a couple of truffles... :)
3) self-care - giving myself the evening off from dog walking, getting some laundry done and put away, feeling like I have a better handle on my life!

Leslie it sounds like heaven! I haven't had anything like that done in a long time. I did buy some Peter Thomas Roth anti-wrinkle pads that are a glycolic acid peel that work pretty darn good, I also got some Body Shop micro-dermabrasion stuff but haven't tried it yet.

I ate like a pig- 2 of the little 3 Musketeer's dark chocolate bites and a single scoop (small) of Tillamook french vanilla- it was there.

Hub made a Tijuana Traffic Jam last night, essentially a lowbudget, easy enchilada casserole. I had him leave the chips out of it so I could eat it and would up having a handful of chips anyway cause the stuff was like soup without the chips in it- sigh.

Although I still sound (and look) awful, I felt better today. I'm still not doing anything but kitten hunting after work.

Ick, Leslie. Wonder what's up with your dogs? Hopefully they don't get sick at home!

Good luck, Woubbie, keep looking for those opportunities to squeeze in a few minutes of movement.

Tuesday:
1. Veggies - yes
2. Declutter/projects - no
3. Kick it up - went for an extra walk, about 2 miles
4. Lights out by 10:30 - yes, and I feel so much better today!

Worked like a nutcase all day and then bailed out of work to go to a late afternoon skincare appointment - ah, some quality self-care! Food isn't sounding good to me this week and I just want to eat something fast and easy. I haven't fallen off the wagon at all but if I had cold cereal that would be all I'd be eating!!

1) fitness - dog walk after my appointment - Chaser had diarrhea on the walk and Whiskey threw up grass in the car on the way home. *sigh* They seem fine now, but...

2) food - planned it, ate it, bored by it. Oh well.

3) self-care - micropeel facial, good face massage afterwards, and I deep breathed while walking the dogs (before the first poop episode).

Here's hoping Hump Day turns it all around tomorrow!

Work still sucks. I'm not getting nearly enough regular walking and other exercising in. I'm afraid to think what the next 3 months are gonna be like if I'm this stretched already.

On the up side, the veggie project is doing well. Salads to the rescue!

EDIT: I was a good girl. I did a little bit of hand weights at home and took a 15 minute walk when I went to pick up Kyle after band rehearsal. Wish me luck today!

STILL feeling like crap. I did work all day yesterday but was too swamped to do any SP stuff- sorry guys. After being out all last week I really had stuff to do.

I vote that we end the September challenge since I so sucked at it and move right on into October for a fresh start.

I made dinner last night- sausage and peppers, and pretty much went to bed (too look for a new kitten!)

Monday:
1. Veggies - yes
2. Declutter/projects - yes, worked a little on sanding the dresser.
Tired and crabby today...must go to bed earlier. I think I will make another goal for this week, of lights out at 10:30.

Monday:

1) fitness - dog walk after work, and I had time to take the boys a little further than usual. No time or energy for a workout though.

2) food - good - as planned!

3) self-care - spent some quality time rethinking my schedule and realized that I can do this and not implode after all.

I had an overloaded weekend, but had lots of fun with a friend today. Too tired to write it all out. I'm not thrilled with going back to work tomorrow, but I'm hoping to work several short days to get caught up at home and on client stuff.

No veggies today, but a good day nonetheless. Back to the Renaissance Festival - Kyle twisted my arm into taking several of his friends. So. Another turkey leg, a bunch of delicious almonds and a lot of walking. Feel much better than I did last week. Much less drive time this week. Good day; not in the mood for work in the morning, but I have no choice. I have no backup until Wednesday, so I'll take that day off instead.

As I was going to St. Ives,
I met a man with seven wives,
Each wife had seven sacks,
Each sack had seven cats,
Each cat had seven kits:
Kits, cats, sacks, and wives,
How many were there going to St. Ives?

Saturday:
1. Veggies - yes
2. Projects - no time
Had a couple small off plan food items...but they weren't horrible.
Sunday:
1. Veggies - yes
2. Projects - no, tired from the late night last night and read most of the day.
3. Extra exercise - DH and I walked to Target this afternoon, about a 3 mile round trip. AND I got back on track today and ate well. Finally!

I really struggle when I travel, which seems to be when I lose my "steady" momentum. I was a way this weekend and didn't do too badly, but it was definitely a struggle to stay focused on nutrition and fitness on the road.

I slept in until 7:00 but then walked the boys, did some laundry, sat down at my desk and paid all my bills, went to Target for some Important Stuff, went to Super Supplements for more Important Stuff, and then came home and worked on two clients. And right now, this weekend, I am burnt out on working!!!

I do NOT have enough down time. Period. This will change because I'm going to dump the PITA dentist client when my favorite client finishes construction and opens his next business (which is pretty much across the highway from my house!). He'll put me on salary so at that point I'll scale back and consolidate to one full-time job (which is really about 35 hours a week), one part-time job, and basically three clients.

Too tired to kick my feet and stomp, but I do feel whiny.

emoticon

Fitness: managed a dog walk
Food: not too good
Self-care: bah!!

As I put in the Saturday thread, I'm not doing much. I changed the bed, did the dishes (hub cooked but...) and now I'm ready for lunch! I'm hungry. Since I'm just laying around, I'll have DH do some laundry and I'll lay here and fold it.

I remember those knives! Hadn't thought about them in years.

Friday:
1. Veggies - 3 different kinds but not 3 servings worth
2. Declutter/projects - yes, got our table/chairs and pie safe photographed and posted on Craig's List.
Went to the football game last night to see the marching band performance - my son is a tenor sax player. Today we are headed to Marshall, MN for a competition tonight, it will be a very late night by the time we get home, kids are scheduled to get back at 2 a.m. Ugh.

Haven't been getting notified of this thread in my email - therefore, it did not exist for me.

Then, I remembered it and have decided it's not too late to be 'Steady in September'.

Hubby and I went to the local farm for apple picking. Lots of activities there for children. Pony rides, hay rides and feeding the farm animals. Weather is beautiful - sunny and around 75 degrees.

I counted my walking around the farm as my treadmill.

Crossed off the 3 things on my 'to-do list' already.

Recorded in my nutrition tracker.

Done.

I keep falling off this thread for some reason. I hate when SP screws up your notifications for no apparent reason. Anyway, I'm just cross-posting this from Friday's thread, cause it sums up where I've been for the past two or so weeks:

The atmosphere of imminent doom in my office is thick enough to cut with a *Ginsu knife.

I, myself, am overworked and unable to get my job done in anything remotely resembling eight hours a day, but my job is just like that - seasonally, anyway. The "season" just happened to come extra early this year and will probably stay extra late.

On the upside, I have not been sedating myself with food, other than a bit more chocolate than I should be eating. Haven't been drinking more beer either. Have been sticking to my minimum of 6 hours of sleep, which is WAYYYY not enough, but better than usual. Have been eating more veggies. Have been doing SOME working out, even though most days I'm doing less than I had been earlier in the summer.

*Ginsu - still great after all these years. Think I'll go cut me up a beer can and then slice a tomato:

Thursday at the Drs in the Lab I smelled doughnuts!! Oh my I thought- that smells goooooood! I want one! Then I thought Nah- that really doesn't smell good at all. It has kind of an icky sicky sweet smell. And I reminded myself I'm no longer someone who eats things like that! My daughter had her Labs done and I left smiling- I CAN do this! :o)

No more junk in the office today! They are currently running 24 hour shifts in the mill so stuff we leave out gets consumed overnight like magic. There's no junk in my house so once I left work yesterday I was back on track. Today I was busy but brought all my food with me... :)

1) Fitness - dog walk, nothing else
2) Food - awesome
3) Self-care - uh... no time! I'll take the evening off!

Steadiness 1: To-Do List -- Still haven't managed to reorganize the List, but have knocked off a few more items. (Some day, I _will_ conquer my impulse to list things rather than just doing them and being done! But that's way far down on the list. -G-)

Steadiness 2: Aqua exercise 2x/wk. It's really hard to leave work forty minutes early twice a week! So I was late to class both times, but I made it. Third class canceled for weather, sigh.

Food hasn't been as clean as I'd prefer, but it's hard to regret duck breast and divers scallops at a great restaurant with a good friend just because the blackberry sauce had a few too many carbs! Okay, and there was fresh bread, and venison sausage in puff pastry.

Decent week, all in all. Fingers crossed I haven't just jinxed myself.

It's been a really bad food week, not staying on plan. I have got to get back on track. Sugar cravings are kicking in.

Don't forget to wipe the frosting off your face with a cloth, Leslie. No fair licking it off!

I'm finally sort of back to what I want to be steady at. I made up my Excel worksheet on what I should be doing every day and am getting back to it. Yesterday I swam, did two double sets of knee exercises, and cleaned up the kitchen, which hadn't been done for way too long. Even shined the sink! This morning, I did a double set of knee exercises and my own stretching/situps/counter pushups/etc. exercises, and Swished and Swiped the bathroom. I'm almost back to where I was in terms of cleaning and tidying last month. I figure I only have about 4 weeks at home before my surgery, and I have a lot that needs to be done to get the house - and me! - in shape.

Ugh, what a day. I got a lot of work done, but we had a going away/good-bye/thank you party for the boss's very cool daughter (she's going to New Zealand to work for nine months after killing some time as a temp in the seed mill here) and I fell into the cake, turned around and did a face-plant in the cupcakes, pulled myself back up and went over backwards into the cookies.

I'm just gonna start over tomorrow.

Glad you're back Maw!

Needless to say since I've been unable to do anything, I haven't. I had cooked ahead so ate that the last few days (I'm sick of pork in ranchero sauce), and not much at a time. I'm really glad I made the LC pound cake! A couple times I wanted a treat and it was there to have with tea.

I'll be better tomorrow and will start again- I didn't make much of a mess!

I woke up at 2:30 this morning and couldn't go back to sleep, finally got up and read a magazine for an hour. And ate. Bad stuff. Back to bed around 4:30 and it still took a while to go back to sleep. Ugh.

Glad you're back, Maw, and it sounds like you've got two good cats... :) Keepers??

I woke up sluggish but that was probably from two very long work days.

Fitness: a nice dog walk after work
Food: on target but without tracking I'm not sure where I am on calories. I still think my body needs less than I give it, but I am far from being able to eat instinctively yet.
Self-care: Uh... probably a big Fail here.

I'm back. Food was mostly ok, but very far from perfect. Did get in lots of exercise, though. Lots of walking.

I AM getting back to steady again! I just redid and printed out my daily schedule of things to do each day. Cleaning and exercising. And, though it's not on my schedule, eating on plan. I'll go post my schedule on the fridge door and get to it tomorrow. (Yes, I know I could start it today - but it's late and I'm not going to!)

I checked with the animal shelter to see if they had any cats that would like a home visit, and was told they had two that were just coming off of respiratory infections. When I got there, they were both cute, so I asked if I could bring them both home or if they preferred just one at a time. Virgil looked surprised, but said we could give it a try. So I have two young cats. Lillian is about 8 months old, and Josslyn is about a year. Josslyn was pregnant when she got sick, and she lost all of her kittens. Poor baby. Lillian hasn't been a mom, and never will, since both of them were spayed yesterday. (Seems strange that I could bring them home the day after their surgery, but that's what Virgil said.) Anyway, I now have two cats, and they both like attention and laps. Which is a pleasant change after Daisy, who wasn't at all interested in laps or being held.

We have wildlife around here, too, but I'm glad to say that it's mostly just squirrels and chipmunks around my house!

Eliz - it's a new day and a fresh start. I'm telling myself that too! Yesterday was so bad. I got my veggies in, but ate horribly last night, sweets and too much. Not the first time this week either. I am tracking my food today to help me stay on track but I've already had over 500 calories! I'll have to have a light supper, maybe just a protein shake. Which works out well since I will be at church tonight helping to serve supper (I won't eat there) so no time to make a real meal anyway. Maybe I'll go for an extra walk when I get home too.

Onward!

I'm really tired. Another long day.

1) Food - well planned, well packed for work, and did not anything stupid
2) Fitness - no time for a dog walk but I did 20 minutes of ski machine and some crunches this morning!
3) self-care - huh. What's that??

Yesterday was truly a Monday. Today isn't, and I am determined not to let it become Monday Part Two. So far, I've gotten two items off the to-list, and added one item that should have been there (oops!). Back to back aqua classes tonight, assuming they don't cancel for fear of lightning--in an indoor pool, mind.

Steadiness 1: get some things off the to-do list, trying to get back down to one page
