I have coffee in the morning, strong and black, usually only a cup or cup and a half. I just sip it while getting ready for work. At work I have water, water, water. While making meals I'll have carbonated water with a squeeze of lemon or lime. I'm trying to avoid it but I drink beer- instead of the good beer I'd like to have, I've been drinking swill, Michelob Ultra. I'd like wine too but tend to polish off the bottle without realizing it so don't go there. I'm an Anglophile and like tea at 3:00 and am trying to find some good dessert something to go with it. Lady Grey tea (Twinnings) smells wonderful!

I rely on crystal lite. Alot of crystal lite. I keep a 1/2 liter bottle at my office; and it's always filled with water with a single crystal lite packet. I usually have one or two cups of coffee a day with heavy whipping cream (HWC - took me a second to figure out what that meant), and a couple packets of splenda. When out I'll either have coffee, just plain water, or some kind of sugar free drink - usually a flavored tea of some sort.

I tried drinking plain water. And if I'm really really thirsty - it's just the thing. Nothing better. But I drink far more than when I'm really really thirsty. And if I drink a fair amount; I do better on other aspects of my diet. I find that if I can drink alot of water, albeit flavored, I'm far less hungry. It works for me. So I'm happy.

This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it!

I mainly make tea. Usually unsweetened, sometimes a little sweet-n-low in it.

Crystal light every once in a while (cost adds up!)

Diet soad w/cream Mmmm!

BUT mainly tea.

For me, the same guidelines apply to the things I drink as to what I eat: natural + LC is preferred, but in a choice between the two, LC wins. Which is to say, I use Splenda (sucralose), Nectresse (monkfruit), stevia, xylitol, and even a bit of aspartame, because I have a whole _mouthful_ of sweet teeth, and it's either use the alternatives or ingest some form of sugar. Water is fine if I'm outdoors or working out, but it doesn't make my mouth happy. SF fruit-and-tea mixes do. 4C brand half and half tea with lemonade is a current favorite, though the Dasani Pina Colada someone downthread mentioned is a very close second. -G-

Many long-term LC'ers say they lose their taste for sweets over time, but so far, that has not happened to me. YMMV.

I start day with water (and meds) require a 1 hr wait until my first cup of bullet proof coffee. I love that first cup.. usually only allow 2 but some days just need that third one. I use cream/mct oil/ sugar free carmel sauce. That finishes my coffee for the day. I love water which I filter...sometimes I add orange oil with small amt of vanilla extract. Just gives me a treat so I know this is my lifestyle not temp.

type with you later. Junebug

Katie, I agree with you - a real treat is the Diet Root Beer with the HWC in it. I also do use Crystal light now and then, just for a change of pace - doesn't seem to affect me or give me cravings at all. I also take Club Soda, some Torani Flavoring (cherry is good) then add the HWC to that - that also makes a nice treat. Drinks like that are usually a late afternoon "pick me up" after I've decided I don't need any more coffee...

The majority of liquid I consume though is just plain tap water.

I understand that our body only NEEDS water. I truly do. But, after years and years of conditioning my body to the way it is now (this was careful conditioning people), I'm going to want to make sure I stick to the plan. In order to do this, I know just drinking water isn't going to make it work. So, I have to try different methods, until maybe I can only drink water.

I tried almond milk... yuck. I can't do it. Crystal light is a good one. Diet green tea, sold over the counter is yum, what I REALLY like for a treat is Diet Root Beer with a tbsp of HWC. YUM! And water... Still trying the bulletproof coffee. Still getting a cup of that down a day. And, of course, water. :)

The suggestions have been VERY helpful though. Thank you! emoticon

Crystal Lite sets me off. I end up drinking glass after glass after glass. I decided it's something I should stay away from. Mostly I just drink water. Herbal tea sometimes in the morning and evening. Yesterday I had ice water with a slice of cucumber and one of lemon. Sometimes tea with lemon.

I drink 10-12 glasses of pure water. Soda is just flavored water, and for me, trying to flavor my water with anything opens up a bunch of issues. Pop is basically flavored water, as are coffee, tea, and Crystal light. I think that if people just gave water a real chance, they would love it. If we were meant to drink Crystal light, I think we would find a waterfall of it somewhere.

Other than the mental aspect of substituting foods, I don't think for most of us, it will kick us out of ketosis, or stall our weight loss, so you can choose what you wish to drink.

For me, the idea of finding a substitute, is an argument that we need the original product in our diet, when what we really need is water. It is up to you how much you want to flavor that water, but never forget that underneath all that flavoring, the only thing you actually need is the plain water. Go a month without flavoring, and you won't ever want it again.

Iced herbal tea - I'm on a Black Cherry kick right now - with Stevia. Stevia should only be bitter if you use too much and there's a fine line between enough and too much. Add one drop at a time and taste in between.

I just count carbs, no net carbs. I stay away from sweeteners now, but I used them a lot when I started. If they work for you, enjoy!
I used to love my coffee with equal and heavy cream.

HWC - heavy whipping cream?

I use a product called Stevia in the Raw - can be found in the health food section. No bitter aftertaste - but it has minimal carbs in it. Can't remember how many - maybe one?

OK a few questions. What is HWC?

Secondly, do you guys just do carb counts in general or count net carbs?

Do you try to stay away from the sweatners? Splenda I'm good with normally... I mean, I'm not sure if this is going to be my life plan that I can't ever eat anything sweet again. I like Stevia, but it tends to have a somewhat bitter taste to it.

I'm for sure going to try and get some of the Crystal Light and the Almond Milk. Those sound great. I MIGHT go for a glass of diet root beer or something and try a dallop of heavy whipping cream in it. I'm a little nervous about it though. It might send me into a POP CRAZE!!!! lol.

I'll have to look into the other stuff. I just think if I don't give myself the opportunity to try different things and have different things available, then I'll just go back to my old ways. I don't want to do that. I want to have this work. I know I can do it!!

You guys have done it. So, thank you for your information. It's truly appreciated.

What I haven't heard anyone say anything about is the Crystal Light stuff or those 'squirt' in the bottle of water stuff. I'll take a bottle of water and squirt some of DiSani's Pineapple/Coconut stuff into it and it tastes great! There is zero everything in it, but it does contain a bit of Sucralose. However, I don't think a bit of that is a 'deal breaker'. Maybe I'm wrong? Anyway, you can get it in different flavors and Walmart and Crystal Lite also have their own brands and flavors.

I also enjoy Triple Leaf brand of Diet Green Herbal Tea. I have only been able to find it at Safeway though or online. I like Diet Snapple Peach Tea as well.

Big cup of coffee in the morning, with sugarfree vanilla creamer, coconut oil and 1T heavy cream. Water all day, and I allow myself one Diet Sunkist orange soda per day. Sweet ice tea with Splenda and lemon when I go out to eat on occasion. :)

Nowyoudidit, The almond milk I use is Blue Diamond Brand Almond Breeze - it is unsweetened, but vanilla flavored. 8 oz. is 30 calories, 2.5 grams fat, 2 grams carb, 1 gram fiber equaling one gram NET carb. It has 1 gram protein, but it does have 45% of the daily requirement for Calcium, which is a plus. I don't just drink it, although it has a pleasant taste, I certainly could. I do protein shakes every morning for breakfast and use it for that. I don't use regular milk at all for anything. I do use HWC sometimes however. The Almond Breeze is available here in all the grocery stores, including Walmart, Safeway and Albertsons.

I actually drink mostly coffee and water, occasionally tea and even less often a diet soda. We have excellent tap water in our area and I probably drink at least 8-10 glasses a day of just plain water, don't even care to "flavor" it with anything. And the coffee has to be black unless it's iced coffee, then I want some HWC in it.

You might try flavored green tea. I am a big fan of Bigelow's Green Tea with Pomegranate. It makes great iced tea too.

I also drink diet soda, although I know some people have a problem with that.

i hear that. i went for months drinking 8+ glasses per day. it was an effort. now, i average about 4 or 5. i still carry my water bottle everywhere. basically everything i drink is some form of water.
i drink club soda, sometimes with some lemon or lime. lately i've been putting a bunch of fresh mint in a pitcher and filling it with water. it takes a bit of adjustment. but, i'm sure my breath is very fresh emoticon . i like cucumbers to flavor the water. probably a mix up would be good--i'm going to try mint and lemon i think.
if my mom's around, she drinks fruit juice, so, i'll put a hit of her fruit juice in my water. but, i don't buy fruit juice otherwise, so, that's kind of rare.
i don't drink hot drinks--no tea or coffee. occasionally, chicken bouillon is good.
yeah, low carb, sweetener free beverage--what else is there? oh, i forgot, almond milk. that's good and only 1 net carb in a cup. i like half unsweetened vanilla with half chocolate for a treat. i think that's all i've got. emoticon

I am drowning in water and it's... killing me. I'm not sure if I can drink much more of it. I added some Mio today but it was eh. Tried some green tea today but with the stevia (not my usual honey) it didn't hit what I needed either. What do you guys drink that keeps it low carb and satisfying and keeps things different?
