I did it, you guys, and it was wonderful! Yup, you read that right... LOL I was SO nervous but halfway there my friend Carri, who was driving, gave me a funny look and I realized the pill had kicked in and had WAY more kick that I expected. Sweet.... The surgery went well and now I am a fan of anesthesia. Never thought I went fully out, but all of a sudden they were sitting me and telling me I was done! Cool. Hung out a Carri's house all day, entertained by her, her hubby, and an out of town houseguest. They told me the pain may kick in tomorrow, but tonight I am SO flippin' happy that it's done, my body can heal now, and I will get healthy again!

Think I need to go gently bite some gauze...

Thanks so much for all the prayers and positive thoughts! I know it made a difference.

I keep a ready to drink shake in my car trunk where I carry extra water for when I go somewhere - a day trip of sorts, shopping trip or whatever. I can just stop and get a cup of ice, pour the shake over and instant lunch, since the one I use at home is powdered and I mix it with an immersion blender. The ready to drink one is Pure Protein, it has 23 grams protein and 3 grams NET carbs (6 grams total carb) And has 120 calories. It's actually very good tasting too. I'll even use one at home if I'm in a real hurry... but since I'm retired, hurry isn't usually in my vocabulary anymore. Used a lot of them when I worked though.

Jim -- This is my 2nd busiest time of year . I haven't, until today I haven't had hardly a minute to breathe for the last 3 weeks. I keep a few ready to drink protein shakes and some pre measured powder in my desk or training bag for those days it is breakfast or lunch on the run. Early morning meetings are usually a protein shake mixed with coffee. One day last week I had to teach 3 training sessions back to back - I took a cyto-sport (32g protein) and sipped it all day - I just kept adding ice.. Most of the time I do weekend or Thursday night prep to keep my best choices on hand, but I have learned that for me to be successful I have to have quick grabs available for those days when things get crazy.

James - I printed off your pancake recipe - looks simpler than the one I was using. I like the way you can make up a bunch of them, then freeze. I stick mine in my toaster for a bit to reheat when needed.

Leslie - keeping you in my prayers. I'm sure the surgery will go well. I guess you stocked up on some handy, soft foods for when you wake up and get hungry.

Today, I am still working on getting cleaning and organizing around the house done. I have a short attention span, and when anything else interesting comes up, I tend to drop whatever I am in the middle of. Need more discipline.

jim, doesn't your boss know it's 2013 and you can't work your slaves 13 hrs without a proper lunch break emoticon .
it is absolutely pouring rain here. i have to drive to the city (an hour on the highway) which sucks. i'm not big on driving most days, let alone in this ugly weather. but, i can't leave until after 1pm either cuz of work. i was hoping to just jump in the car and get it over with. but, since i am going to the city, i get to go to whole foods which i enjoy. i don't usually get much there, but, it's a beautiful store and there's interesting things i can't get here.
i guess fall is here. it's always so sad to get to the end of summer. i'm not big on extreme heat, but, i'm certainly not a winter fan either. and i live in the pacific northwest, so, rain--day after day after day......monotony here we come. emoticon -- or maybe it'll clear up in a couple days and i'll wonder what i was whining about emoticon

Jim: I was having problems with getting a good breakfast as well. I found a recipe here on SP for sausage and egg muffins (they have only 1 carb per serving). I don't have time to cook during the week, so I make them on Sunday and put them in individual baggies. It only takes about 15 seconds in the microwave to heat them, and they are finger food. My hubby really likes them as well.

Also, do you have a Carl's Jr fast food restaurant by you? When I have very little time I have the protein bowl. It's not the best food, but it is very low carb and okay once in a while when I'm in a pinch.

Connie: I am also sending your friend and his family positive thoughts. Also, it's great when you go to a function and they have some good food choices for us low carbers. Maybe your stomach was reacting to the stress of your friends diagnosis as well as from the fillers.

Leslie: I feel your pain regarding the infected molar. Make sure you take all of your meds and take care of yourself.

Leslie,

Good luck getting that tooth pulled. I don't envy you one bit.

I'm not sure I'll do the chicken variety of sausages; but smallish sausages in baggies could be very handy to eat on the run. Gotta watch the carbs on them though. Most are ok; but some have just a bit too much. I've never been to a Trader Joe's. Just looked up where the nearest one is: 103 miles away. Doubt I'll be stopping by any time soon...

This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it!

Jim, I do food prep on Sundays (based on my schedule) and I always fix breakfasts for the week. If you're near a Trader Joe's they have a lot of different kinds of chicken sausages, and I've eaten them for breakfast. Bag them individually in snack size ziplocks and you could grab it out of the fridge and eat it while driving (carefully, of course!).

I'm not going to work today - I'm having that infected molar pulled. They said absolutely no food or water before the surgery, other than a sip of water to take the I-Don't-Care pill to get me in the door. I'm thirsty but way too nervous to be hungry! My friend will be here around 9:30 to pick me up, and I'll be home this afternoon - sleeping and clutching an ice bag I suspect.

I feel so betrayed by that dang tooth - it doesn't hurt at all and I've been chewing on that side of my mouth all along! Oh well, life happens. After the bone regenerates I can probably get an implant, but for now I just want to feel healthy again.

I just started (again) low carb. I'm definitely feeling the buzz. But I don't think that's the biggest reason - I think it's mostly my crazy schedule. I need to up my exercise (really easy to take it from 0 to +++); so I'll try some of that before bed.

I did see your recipes. Not really my thing; but I would have gladly eaten them if I had them handy. Of course, having them on hand does require you to prepare them ahead of time; which I haven't done. Yet. As I said earlier I plan to do some prepare-ahead stuff this weekend. For me I MUCH prefer things like quiche to a muffin or pancakes. But that's me. I like to cook (when I have the time); and I plan to experiment with the recipe until I have it just the way I want it. I had my wife buy the ingredients I wanted; so I'm all set to go.

I've done Low carb alot before, and I do know how to do it. But I've just come out of a very bad - eat-anything-I-want stage. Probably as a way to deal with the stress at work.... But after a visit to the cardiologist I decided then and there; ok - tomorrow I'm going back to eating right. But I haven't had time to prepare my pantry/fridge yet. That'll happen this weekend when I have time. Right now I don't have anything acceptable for a low-carb diet that doesn't require at least 15 minutes to prepare. But that will change this weekend.

This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it!

Thursday: My 85 year old friend had a dr's appt yesterday re: results of his prostate. He's in the hospital this a.m. having surgery. He dropped by yesterday to let me know. He was scared. I'm sending him positive healing energy. His wife was with him during the appt. but neither of them heard anything after 'surgery tomrrow'.

The retirement party had good choices for food. We went out to dinner with friends afterwards. The other couple wanted Mexican. We had the taco salad without the shell. My tummy hurt a few hours later. I guess my body was reacting to whatever filler in the food. Lots of water afterwards.

I'm hanging around the house waiting for info re: my friend. He's a WWII Vet & is a blessing to all who have the opportunity to be touched by his life. Breathe in . . . breathe out . . . I'll work on whatever keeps me busy. I don't teach today.

Life is as it should be . . . whether I like it or not. YIPPEE! Connie

JIM_1960,
Did you see my recipes for low carb pancakes and low carb muffins, both of which can be made in advance and frozen, then thawed in a micro-wave when you are in a hurry in the morning.

If you don't know them I can repost the links.

Also, if you are having trouble sleeping, I have a question, did you just start low carb, or has it been a few weeks? Eating low carb leads to a light sleep for the first few weeks until your body chemistry is more fully in ketosis.

- James

I can't take too many of them myself, but some people love pork rinds and keep several (individual) packs about. Or buy a big bag and portion out single servings perhaps.

Hard boiled eggs -- some keep them in the fridge, already peeled, to grab and go, or just for a snack if they are "peckish" (wanting to nosh).

I've heard that some keep slices of meat in the freezer, and take some out the night before - chicken legs, and the like. Maybe chunks of cucumber to grab and take with, along with the protein.

I bet others have loads of ideas -- just wait!

I would if I could have. The leftovers looked NASTY (and probably unsafe). I had leftover fish on Monday. But yesterday and today I literally had 0 minutes to grab breakfast at home. So I didn't. I managed to get my son in with 1 minute to spare. I ate what I had in my office drawer; and I ate up all my emergency food (hot dogs) yesterday. And I'm not going to be home again until 9pm. It's crunch time at work. So I'm here in the office from 7:30am to 8:30pm. I often can't get away for lunch; like yesterday ("Meeting Day" - yay!). But today isn't meeting day, so I'll make myself go out for lunch and have a good one. I plan to use this Saturday to think through and plan my meals, prepare better emergency foods (planning on making some spinach & bacon mini-quiches); take a bunch in to work and leave a fair number at home too. So much would improve if I could get to sleep sooner.

Since you're part of the team here, Jim, of COURSE you can start it! (I used to feel the same, myself.)

Do you like leftover meat from the previous day's meal(s)? Personally, I've learned to eat leftover chicken, usually with mayo, or something similar. But in truth, it was easy since I love meat, chicken etc. I just don't think I could do leftover fish first thing in the morning.

Anyway, I had lambchops for breakfast (I ate about 2 hrs after I got up), and will have shirataki noodles shortly, in the leftover grease from brekkers.

Dinner will be pork belly, well done so it's crispy.

I do love fish and will probably have some tomorrow.

Good morning folks. Guess I'll start todays "day" thread again. I hesitate because I'm still a "new guy" and part of me feels it isn't my place. Silly huh? For today I'm still struggling with getting in a good breakfast. Yesterday was a challenge all day. Had an emergency breakfast, emergency lunch, a desperate snack when I should have had dinner; then finally had enough time to prepare and eat a meal - at 9pm. ugh. That meal was 70% of my calories for the day. Not good. I kept it low carb; but it wasn't a good plan. I can't tell you how much I need to get my sleep schedule fixed. I'm too busy during the day to make up for getting up a bit late. Today isn't going any better. Breakfast = water + 1oz of almonds....

My problem is getting to sleep I think. I'm having trouble falling asleep before midnight. Any suggestions on how to get to sleep?

This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it!
